Dr. Adrian Rogers was not a "TV evangelist"! He was the pastor of a church in Memphis, TN. He was conservative, not just in his messages but in his life. He had the philosophy (about life, debt, etc) of a country preacher. He was a humble man who his people loved. Even years after his death, they still run his messages on tv because they represent basic life principles. I never met him but often listened to him. I remember him saying he and his wife didn't buy things they couldn't pay for. WOW, THAT IS REALLY RADICAL!

I listened to all of Rush's speech. He said President was one of the most gifted orators he'd ever seen, etc.---but he does NOT want his socialist agenda to be implemented. He further stated that taxes have been taken and "redistributed" to others for decades, yet their situation is the same. Why? Why is the "rule" to take from the risk takers, inventors, workers, etc and give to others (unwillingly) who often choose NOT to work.

Our nation subsidizes bad monetary habits: earned income credit, subsidized or free housing, free health insurance, free transportation, etc. When this passes to second and third generations--there is a problem. I know there are many in these programs temporarily--that is fine. When generation after generation continue ---that's abuse!

If by "busting [Limbaugh] on his past issues" you mean the drug use, it's not the drug use he's being busted on, per se. It's the hypocrisy. He's known for talking high and mighty about what should happen to drug users (i.e. they should be thrown in jail). When it happens to him, he sings a different tune. That same hypocrisy can be applied to many other aspects of his philosophy, like treatment of the poor. It's easy to say "they're good for nothing" "they bleed this country dry" "they're lazy and don't want to work." Rush should try being poor for a while and he might have a different attitude. The poor of America are, by and large, work a helluva lot harder than a radio show host. In fact, they work harder then most white collar people. Think of all the poor people that Rush's life encounters, whether he knows it or not. The janitors in his building; the cleaning people in the hotels where he stays; the people that wash his car. Those people work 40+ hours a week and earn less than what Rush spends on hair gel and pork rinds. Why is he against them getting a break? I'll tell you why, because he's never known that lifestyle. 4) Our American offers opportunities, that should be supported by the collective, that have and are evolving to be free and fair to all. Please note my use of opportunity is not interchangeable with entitlement. Opportunity implies growth where entitlement implies stagnation.

Because we track success and failure we know that many citizens are not adequately allowing themselves to benefit from this system. To wish Obama failure and try to convince an alleged 20,000,000 listeners to do the same causes me to think Rush's remarks border on treason; more specifically, I think serious disloyalty to the leader of one's country is called "high treason" and can be a prosecutable offense. First, most social programs are run on the state and local level, they just get their funding from the government. Why? Because to do it otherwise would render the Deep South and other states mini-third-world countries. Most tax revenue is derived from the coastal states. So the funding pours in from the coast and gets redistributed to the poor states. I live in a wealthy state that would be far better off under your system, yet I disagree with you on principle. We are one country and should look out for each other.

They are not trying to "buy off" the poor. Democratic policies try to give the poor a helping hand. "Poor" does not mean "unemployed." When you raise the minimum wage, you're not buying anyone off. I agree, and that's what I propose. If you account for 85% of the nation's income, you should pay 85% of its taxes. Currently, the upper classes pay a disproportionately small percentage of taxes...hear me now...when you compare it to the percentage of income that they account for. They are not paying their share. You don't figure their share based on percentage of the population. You figure it based on the percentage of income. The rich people in this country are not being taken advantage of. They are the ones taking advantage of others - not of the services provided by the government, but of the labor forces (including white collar labor) on whose back they are getting rich. Please remember, when I say "rich," I'm not talking about some guy who owns a contracting company and makes $200-300k a year. More power to him. I'm talking about those that make millions a year by manipulating this country. (think: Wall St.)

I disagree here for one simple reason. Mobility. I don't live in the same state where I grew up. I like the idea of uniformity (within limits) because it reduces barriers. I don't want the central government telling individual schools how to teach, but I like the idea of a uniform set of standards by which to grade a school's effectiveness. (Confession: I initially supported No Child Left Behind.) As for the central government working for special interests, I don't think you'll get much argument from anyone on that, but the knife has to cut both ways. If you don't want the unions to have power, you have to take big business out of the equation as well. Good luck!

The Republican party is simply a coalition of several voting blocks. It doesn't hate. However, one of it's major voting blocks is the heterosexual, white, Southern male. I also find it laughable when Republicans accuse Democrats of expanding government and spending money. Has Steele's head been in a hole the past 8 years???!!! Under Bush AND a Republican majority, we witnessed HUGE government spending and the largest expansion of government in our history. I am neither Democrat or Republican and I hate to sound like a Democrat but I have one question for Republicans: "What planet, what dimension are you living in?" The problem we all face is the partisan atmosphere and the partisan party's that value power over principle. If our elected officials had been doing the right thing for the last 100 or so years none of the financial problems we face today would be as big as they are now. Both party's are up to their eyeballs in this system and perpetuate it, the supporters of either party are enablers of the ruse as they continue to reelect the main culprits every year and rant and rave about how the other side created this mess and their side will change it for the better. In my opinion nothing could be further from the truth. Look at the last spending bill with thousands of earmarks, the real power brokers the leaders of the congress served the President notice and guess what he will do what they demand if he wants anything done. We got the Washington special in November and we are going to get more partisan posturing for the next 2 years and for many years after when the herd reelects them for another term. Change, hardly, partisan crap, yes indeed.

I am a liberal and have no problems with Rush Limbaugh and his comments. I do not agree with him but I am the first one to defend his right of speech. I also do not belive that Obama is a socialist. I don't think many people know what the definition of socialism is yet that seems to be the popular slogan of the day when it comes to describing him. We are in the financial mess that we are in because of mis-management of not just the GOP but also the Democrats. This is a problem that stems back at least 20 years if not more. The republicans were at the helm for at least 16 of those 20. Democrats and Republicans made millions nevere looking at the long term effect. Now we are all victims of the irresponsibility of our government. We can waste time and point fingers or we can take stalk of our own greed and try to fix this. Let's stop sayng that the democrats are spending tax payer money without measuring the consequences when less than 1 year ago nobody had an issue with Bush and his cronies spending the same tax payer money. I actually heard something along the lines of what you're talking about. Apparently Obama asked that the earmarks be removed from the Omnibus Bill, but Pelosi and the rest of the leadership said no. He hasn't made a stink, yet. I'm waiting to see how long he lets this go. I'm not saying he should make a big stink at the first sign of politics-as-usual, but he'll have to put his foot down eventually. If he just continues to play along to get along, he won't get my vote in 2012.

As for third parties, I know that's one of your constant battle cries, and I agree with you. There's a chicken-egg argument here but...What needs to happen is that elected officials have to abandon their party Lieberman-style. Ron Paul should be the first. They don't have to declare a third party, just stay independent. Just a thought.

Except under the Bush administration, the government grew - a whole new federal department was created. Regarding your comment on oligarchies. I can't deny there's truth in it, but there is a definite difference in the two parties. Analogy: Mexico and Saudi Arabia are both members of OPEC. They both have an interest in maintaining high oil prices. However, they also have a great many differences, which is why one of them sticks to production quotas and one doesn't.

While Limbaugh isn't the "leader" of the Republican party in that sense that he hasn't been elected or appointed, he is the de facto leader. I think that one would be hard to argue at this point. When you have the head of the RNC bowing down to kiss your proverbial ring, you hold the real power. If you read my prior posts, you'll see I haven't called Rush names. However, his brand of conservatism is considered by many centrists (forget liberals for the moment) extreme. As surely as there are extreme liberals, there are extreme conservatives. That's what Limbaugh is. The argument from the Rush "haters," once you strip away the vitriol, is that Rush in antithetical to conservative interests. That is, his brand of conservatism won't restore the Republican party to power.

For example, conservatives want to minimize entitlements, right? Then pick someone who speaks to the poor and urges them to improve their station. Find a leader that says, "follow me, and you won't be poor much longer." But that's not Rush. His message is hate and anger. In tough times like these, it's understandable why that message is selling. If you want to examine Rush's popularity over the last couple of decades, we can do that. As many have pointed out, while the stock market was climbing high, most Americans were left behind. Their incomes were not growing as fast as the market. In 1980, there were many people who made $25-$30k a year, and that could buy you a house back then. How many people nowadays make an annual salary that can buy a house? Not many. People are angry (justifiably) , and Rush gives them a place to channel that anger - liberals, illegal immigrants, feminists, or whatever is selling today. He's not a productive voice in the American discourse. In my opinion, this country would be better off without his Rush, Coulter, Malkin, Hannity...but also , Olberman, Maddow, Moore. The extremists serve no purpose except to get their own base and the other side riled up. Nothing productive comes out of them.

My point, made earlier as well, is that the richest pay less than their share of taxes. I do not count the share as a percentage of the population, which is what you appear to be doing. I count their share based on the percentage of income they account for. If the richest 1% pay 40% of the taxes, as you say, but make 60% of the income, they aren't paying their share. They should be paying 60% of the taxes. If you want to argue with my logic, I welcome that argument.

You take that iniquity, add the number that don't pay taxes at all, and what you get is a middle-class that is royally screwed. Now, you can't tax the poor because that's like trying to get blood out of a stone. There's just no money there. Chad and others -- What I think Obama is doing is trying to implement some aspects of the Keynesian Economic Theory, though it has not been labeled as such. You will find critics of this theory, but will also find critics of the trickle-down economics that Bush implemented, though again it was not labeled as such. Probably most economists will point out that the trickle-down method is bound to fail and to produce ever-increasing poverty. Sure enough, we have just witnessed how it works, or fails to work.

Trickle-Down Economics have been called Horse and Sparrow Economics because what you feed to the horse supposedly will get to the sparrows, eventually. Thus trickle-down practitioners such as Bush think 99 percent of Americans -- those who are not super rich -- should eat poop and be happy to get it.

By contrast, Keynesian Economics may prove a more successful approach because it mainly provides money to those most likely to spend it. This results in economic stimulation while at the same time directly benefiting the people who receive the money and probably need it the most. But it's controversial because it does involve government intervention in the economy and a likely increase in Welfare programs.

Personally, I would far rather see my tax money benefiting the people in this country -- the USA -- instead of the people in Iraq, the super rich, and George W. Bush's friends and business associates. Did you really enjoy trillions of dollars in tax money and budget deficits going to those causes, rather than your fellow Americans? If capitalism is such a bad thing, why didn't the country implode 200 years ago? Why, given the free market system, did the United States of America become one of the most prosperous countries in the shortest amount of time in history? Because they were given a chance to prosper, a chance to succeed. They were not coddled by the government. I think Rush's most recent comments have stepped beyond the bounds of idiocy and into the realm of treason, especially if there are people who think of him as their leader. I think somebody should investigate whether he should be prosecuted. Even freedom of speech has its limits, if it incites a large number of people to oppose the government or creates a rift in the unity of our country. At the least, this dummy needs to be taken down a few notches, with nobody apologizing for anything except Rush himself.

Rush make 40 million a year. Oprah took in 200 million + last year. So he has a targeted audience that is very loyal to him. I attack those with similar political views as mine as well, if i see them to be disingenuous, narcissistic, or hypocritical (Micheal Moore for example). I do my own research and the views of Rush (particularly his economic philosophy) are highly flawed. There's plenty of theory out there to support him but very little else. Capitalism in it's most simplistic form is highly viable but when implemented on a national or even global level (especially when unfettered) all it does is lead to ever-increasing disparity, it is inevitable. Of course Rush's critique of capitalism isn't really a critique at all because he rarely addresses the inquity created by the system because...I don't know why he avoids it, but he does.

Very eloquently stated and much appreciated. I am perfectly aware of the differences between satire, fact, and opinion. My issue is that realizing many in this country do not have that capacity, willingness, or skill Rush chooses to present himself as the authority on numerous issues of which he only a base understanding (apparently). Although you and I know otherwise, he presents his opinion as the way things really are and unfortunately millions of people take him at his word; this is my only gripe. Although he has repeatedly refuted any claims he has that his opinion is nothing more than just that (and a seledtively educated opinion it is) people still look to him for their views on various issues that effect all of us. I too recognized the growing presence of "undisciplined thinking" and am disturbed by it especially when it's directed at extremely important issues and intentionally manipulated by people such as Rush (I acknowledge that there are guilty parties on both sides of the political spectrum). I'm in no way advocating that pundits like Rush be censored but I do ask that citizens be more selective and use more self-educated judgement in determining who is worth listening to and whose analysis they place their faith in. We must remeber that what is right or best isn't always what makes us the most comfortable, indeed one can be conforted by their self-analysis when it makes them somewhat or on occasion uncomfortable.

"Complex" issues almost always arrise from simple, inocuous decisions. The repubs blurred banking/finance and investment procedures with all the deregulations they enacted from 1970 to about 1983-5. Most political pundits did not recognize how many ignorant, racist fools existed in America. It will be many years before this country is free from hatred. Rush is the voice of alot of conservatives that have no representation in either the Republican Party or in any other media outlet except the Fox network. Rush wants Obama's policies to fail because they are bad for our great country.

Listening to O'Reily last night and he was talking to Juan Williams and something he said is so true the Left wing will crucify any opinion that differs from their opinion. The Left wing do not want an open discussion on issues but want Rush and other conservatives talk show hosts silenced. NO DISSENTERS JUST SHEEPLE and KOOLAID DRINKERS.

As long as the conservative base follows Limbaugh and applaud his hate-filled, divisive rants; the Republican Party will be a nonissue because the only people he appeals to is the conservative base. Fortunately, they can't win an election on their own. As long as this man is seen as the de facto head of this party, Moderates and Independents will have nothing to do with it.

I'm also very worldly, how often have you traveled outside our boarders? I visit Europe, Asia even the Mideast on a regular basis (multiple times each and every year). And as I am not blind but am instead very open minded, I have learned to love people of all cultures.

Check again, the stock market is reacting to future policies so it is reacting to BO’s policies weather you want to believe it or not. I think it's okay to admit that one likes Rush's radio show. Rush is very good at what he does. And, if one wants to play along with Rush's game, and call in as a "ditto head" (sort of like playing along with the "American Idol" game and for fun casting a vote for the worst singer) then that's fine too.

But to actually think that Rush's show is anything more than entertaining is absurd. That's like saying that The Colbert Report is the real news.

I am now an ex-republican as I am disappointed the party has lost their way catering to the fanatic christian right and cannot seem to evolve with modern times. I disagree with you on Bush not being responsible for the mess we are in. He and the reps in congress are equally guilty with dems for our situation. Govt has ballooned in size under the rep watch, spending was out of control by the "fiscally responsible" reps as much as dems, and they did nothing to stop the problem before it became a full blown disaster.
