WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's optimistic campaign rhetoric has crashed headlong into the stark reality of governing.

I think that is just spinning the fact that Obama BS'd the public when he was campaigning. They all do it because they have to pretend they are working in the public's interest when they campaign and strike popular poses but when they get into office they start working in the interests of the big corporations who gave them the money to run for the office. I'm sure Obama never intended to do a lot of the things he said he'd do in during the campaign with the exception of cutting Social Security (when people now have nothing else to fall back on) and Medicare (when aging baby boomers need it most) because destroying those very successful social programs have always been a big priority with big business.

Other examples: Bush campaigned on a less agressive foreign policy but once in office invaded two countries.

Bill Clinton said he'd work to give everyone national healthcare but instead we got HMO's and NAFTA.

When will people stop falling for this chicanery and elect someone who will really work for them and come through for them?

Whats interesting, is that Obama may need to fix what FDR started all those years ago. Namely, how to pay for Social Security and Medicare. FDR had the luxury of creating the welfare state. Obama has the challenge of propping one up a failing one.

Many of Obama's campaign promises were made before the economic meltdown, which has derailed things. Yet he is still trying to do what he promised, and is being criticized for taking on too much at once. Concern about whether such large funding programs can be managed is legitimate. It will require much more than the Executive branch to get things done, which Obama has said from day one.

It is called checks and balances, in which he must work with the house and senate in Congress and other agencies. It is called democracy, in which he must work with the media and the American people. In comparison to Bush/Cheney, the efforts to preserve these basic premises per the founding fathers is very refreshing.

I agree with the original post that progress will take more than 60 days to happen. It would be nice to see the Republicans doing something posititive. Hopefully they will start to contribute something meaningful. As long as I see efforts--Obama is working harder than any President I can recall--I will support the President.

The biggest obstacle to real change is the real long term partisan hacks that rule both party's. They have already made their intentions known to the President having refused to compromise on the spending bill. One can not expect Obama to "change" the US from a capitalist country to a non-capitalist country overnight. When Obama was making promises, there were people who knew that the majority of his promises were unrealistic--that these promises require money and unless we changed course--real change, for a change--we were headed for an economic meltdown. Ron Paul was one of the most well-known of the above, a group that includes people from various disciplines, including economists and historians. They were laughed at.

In any case, if people didn't see this meltdown coming at least by the campaign season, then they weren't listening and reading or they only get their information from MSM and party-line sources. An individual in Obama's position should be especially informed. He was a senator, however briefly, and he was campaigning for the office of president. That he appeared not to be informed is only one reason I didn't vote for him. Why should I excuse his apparent ignorance now, when I didn't then?

Bush didn't leave Obama any more than Clinton left Bush. Clinton left the start of this recession and denied it hotly but then he denied his affair with Monica too.

Obama made one promise to one group and went right down the road and told the person with the opposite view that he would help them too. He promised the WVa coal miners that their jobs would not be affected and now he's right in there wanting to tax emissions from coal which will cause job loss and high grocery costs as well. He's back pedalled so many times in 2 months that he's made a fool of himself in the public eye.

He told the middle class workers there would be no new taxes on them and on April 1st the cost of gasoline will increase 25cents. Unless you walk everywhere and don't heat your home with natural gas, electric, or fuel oil - you will be affected but then again if you eat you better know that the farmer's going to be paying more to plant and harvest his crops because of the cost of fuel and your groceries are going up again.

Before you cast aspersions, you should realize the 107th session of the Senate, as well as the 110th & 111th sessions, were controlled by Democrats. Additionally, the 107th through the 109th, House seats were narrowly controlled by the Republicans, while from the 110th to the 111th (present) seats were controlled by Democrats. Last time I checked the President, whomever he may be, has the right to veto a bill in toto, or have I lost something here?

The President can propose until he turns blue, but ultimately Congress passes the bills. It's whether or not the CONGRESS is acting on the behalf of our nation or on their own agenda as to what goes through should be the begging point here.

I did not vote for Obama, but I did vote for a Democrat for the House-- he voted for the tax bill that is directly opposed to the Constitution, ergo next election he will NOT get my vote.

The primary issue was the economy and in particular the banking industry and financial stability. He is a deer in the headlights as far as the banks are concerned but no excuses will be accepted. People are right to be upset with the AIG traders that did not perform but had a great payday none the less. Maybe the same standard should apply to the administration.

I'm sure Obama never intended to do a lot of the things he said he'd do in during the campaign with the exception of cutting Social Security (when people now have nothing else to fall back on) and Medicare (when aging baby boomers need it most) because destroying very successful social programs have always been a big priority with big business.

Can you lead me to any candidate who has 100% experience to run a country...I doubt you will find any...how many politicians out there-those you voted for or against-will you find with no support from big corporations, supporting issues that big corporations have a vested interest in-oil is a big example...if you're going to be talking about campaign promises; which person have you seen to keep any and which person have you seen bring about change within 2 months or less to a country with issues that are as deep as ours...you cannot seriously tell me that you think that Obama is the only person out there you should be questioning-every single one of our elected officials and those running for office need to be questioned...

Honestly if Paulson had done the Toxic Asset by the Fed Govt Creating a bad bank we would currently be on our way to recovery, exactly like the S&L failures in the late 80's-early 90's. Instead we had a lame duck administraion with a congress unwilling to work with the administration on a tried and true program for recovery.

President Obama used this opportunity to force states, businesses and individuals to follow his "economic bailout" which follows a failed model (The New Deal). I live in a non-union state and now our state's construction companies cannot compete with the union labor stat's just due to cost of employing non-union laborer at union wages. We will be held accountable to maintain unrealistic education budgets because of accepting the bailout money, when a large percentage goes to paying for non tax paying illegal immigrants (yes a border state).

In just what 63 days, this Administration has guranteed a tax raise across the board of at least 5%. They now want to cap what financial executives can make.

This alone shows the brilliance of Liberal policies and the followers of people like this. Instead of getting $1.75 million from a corporation willing to pay an employee $5million for a years of work, let's say they cap it at $1million we get $375k in taxes. That means to limit that executive the taxes will come out of at least 400 peoples pockets making $40k a year.

Look at Cap and Trade. Do you honestly think the money generated charging energy companies for this is not going to be passed on to the consumer? Smart Grid technology is at least 20 years out, cars are not near to the point of being fuel efficient and we will still be dependent on foreign oil.

Hell, instead of destroying the environment from drilling for our own oil we will just be cutting down trees to print money we have absolutely no way of actually backing.

And just where the h*ll was all this diligent media when Bush was selling the invasion off Iraq with all his blatant lies??? That disaster is still costing us 10 billion a month, and American and innocent Iraqi lives.

The economy was well on its way to death long before Obama was elected. Unfortunately, John Q Public can not impeach anyone in liar city. It takes congress, and most of those suckers will not vote to impeach themselves, and certainly not their ring leader!

If congress keeps it up we can vote out enough to start impeachment processes. But Obama would be powerless without his congress backing him. We need to worry about those idjits more than Obama. He just signs what they send, a figurehead of sorts. 18 states have recall processes for their senators and representatives. We need to encourage those states to enact this process (most take only 20-30% signatures to start the election process) But we need to replace congress far more than we need to get Obama out. Congress is spending us blind. YES we need to spend a lot to help this economic crisis but the pet projects that have been put on hold for years were push through on that last bill (and the budget too) spent way beyond our means. Congress has overstepped their boundaries and misused their power. That is an offense to the country and the constituents they are supposed to represent.

The 90% tax is on the bonuses of AIG. The tax will only be on the employees that got the bonus and earn more than $250,000. I do not agree with them and Obama did not appear to agree with them either. He said the bill was like "closing the barn door after the horses have already gotten out". We will see if he signs the bill, if it gets passed through the Senate. It passed in the House (by both dems and repubs), and is in the Senate now.

Did Obama promise "NO lobbiests in my administration."? Yes or no? Yes he did. Did he hire people to oversee departments they had lobbied in the past? Yes he did.

Did Obama promise "I will not sign any legislation that contains earmarks."? Yes or no? Yes he did. Did he just sign two huge spending bills full of earmarks? Yes he did.

But the fact that Obama willingly lies was plainly obvious during the campaign. Did Obama enter into an agreement with McCain to only use public financing for the general election? Yes he did. Did he use only public financing? No.

Did Obama claim that in his 20+ relationship with his mentor, Rev. Wright, he never heard his choosen mentor use language condeming America as a hateful, racist country? Yes he did. When that lie obviously was not going to work he tried to play off Rev. Wrights ideology as the rantings of an old man, "Like a crazy uncle..." But still he claimed he could never disown him. He then claimed to never had agreed with his mentors anti-American, black supremist ideals (If he was unaware of Rev. Wrights anti-American, black supremist views how could he have disagreed with them?) and DISOWNED him.

Everything I have just posted is a verfied fact. Taken straight from the things Obama has personally said and done. No second hand information and no spin.

His budget is forecating a 1 .8 trillion dollar deficit, using a 3.6 %percent in the economy.
Unforunately, we're starting from a - 6.2% economy, which means he needs a 9.6% just to post a 1.8 trillion deficit.
I think, that if you ask for the opinion of ayone, they would say, thst's not going to happen.
The CBO says the defifcit, will really, be, 2.1 -2.3 trillion.
China has already warned us, you know the country that holds the single biggest art of our national debt,
t watch our spending.
My question, would be, suppose no one wanted to buy our debt.
You would see a tax increase on the rich, alright and on every other person in this country, with an income.

The Los Angeles Unified School District, Cal. Teachers Assoc., etc. are constantly screaming for more money and almost always get it, and yet, education results become increasingly worse. I frankly think Obama has no clue which is not surprising given the fact that he really is not qualified for the job, and his constant running around making speeches causes me to wonder if it is even he who is the primary decision maker.

As to the AIG incident, you do realize that now the Federal government arguably owns a huge chunk of AIG by buying up their debt, that means if AIG defaulted on the bonuses, the US government was on the hook for breaking a contract and subject to a lawsuit.

We shouldn't destroy the best health care in the world for 12%. It is an excuse to control us all and turn America into the new USSR --United States Socialist Republic. This president has put in 12 executive orders in the short time since his election--all limit freedom and exec. orders are used only when Presidents don't think their plans will pass congress. Obama has to be left of Lenin not to get his Social agenda through this Far Left Congress--so I guess he is Left of Lenin. Next thing we know we will have a managed economy with five year plans--didn't work in the previous USSR and won't work here. No freedom. Planned economies don't adjust to need and demand.
