The new border czar is to crack down on violence and weapons smuggling. How about cracking down on drug smuggling and illegal immigrants? Please don't tell me that all of this will stop if we stop the few weapons that are being smuggled into Mexico. Even the ATF has said that the 90% number was false.
Here is a concept, build the wall. Since it works both ways it will help both countries with thier problems. Since we had 202 miles of fence as of December, maybe we should work a little harder. Wouldn't it also create jobs?

Our founding fathers fought for liberty from tyrants and kings. Now, our presidents hand out titles of KING-ship to people who are not accountable to the electorate.
If people knew the Constitution, many things, including this one, about the government today would not be tolerated. One day, those among us who have not already opened their eyes will open them and realize that what they could have seen has been taken away from them before they could see it.

I agree that the heavy weapons that have been shown on TV are not the norm of what's coming out of the states. What I saw was military hardware, so don't tell me the US is supplying it. If that is the case it has to be from the mob. The guns I saw that were said to be broken down and hidden in gas tanks were nothing more than hunting gear.

It is amazing that Mexico wants us to restrict gun ownership in the United States. Mexico is the country which does not let their citizens own guns and they are the country with the BIG problem of gun violence. United States allows it's citizens to own guns and the Mexican style violence has not spread to this country. Maybe Mexico should learn from her neighbor that citizen gun ownership brings stability.

I suggest that we legalize marijuana and decriminalize other drugs. If half the money the cartels gets is from marijuana then half the problem is solved. Americans want marijuana. It is a relatively benign drug. They are going to get it whether or not it is illegal. The more you criminalize drugs the more they cost. The more they cost the more crime and violence is involved. Stop the madness that is called the drug war. Use the money saved to give treatment to anyone that actually wants it. Prohibition did not work. The drug war has not and will not work. Change the drug laws.

It's amazing how our elected officials continue to put people in certain positions just because. I don't see how anybody who was a school superintendent can be elected as a Border Czar and have the qualifications unless I misread the story. Was there even a posting for this position for those in the public arena? Probably not, because our elected continue to put friends, family, cronies and anybody who might be of service to them later. This is real, not some truancy issue.
Yes, the border towns and even towns that were not considered border towns now have a high rate of crime which is very sad and disheartening and unfortunately their are many variables involved.
As far as building a wall, you don't need one. Just start billing the Mexican government for every person that has to be bused back to Mexico and is here illegally. They are part of the problem because they actually encourage them to come here by not correcting their social and economic issues. Once they start getting a tab of monies owed, believe me they are not going to close their eyes but instead start working on the issues that exist in their country which would be good for the people. THE top suits and some of the on-air talent at CNBC were recently ordered to a top-secret meeting with General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt and NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker to discuss whether they've turned into the President Obama-bashing network, Page Six has learned.
"It was an intensive, three-hour dinner at 30 Rock which Zucker himself was behind," a source familiar with the powwow told us. "There was a long discussion about whether CNBC has become too conservative and is beating up on Obama too much. There's great concern that CNBC is now the anti-Obama network. The whole meeting was really kind of creepy."
One topic under the microscope, our insider said, was on-air CNBC editor Rick Santelli's rant two months ago about staging a "Chicago Tea Party" to protest the president's bailout programs -- an idea that spawned tax protest tea parties in other big cities, infuriating the White House. Oddly, Santelli was not at the meeting, while Jim Cramer was, noted our source, who added that no edict was ultimately handed down by the network chieftains.
CNBC flack Brian Steel confirmed the get-together, but insisted: "The dinner was to thank CNBC for a job well done in our in-depth reporting throughout the financial crisis. As far as our coverage is concerned, we are built for balance and we are unabashedly pro-investor."
Our source retorted: "That is complete bull[bleep] . . . they didn't invite a lot of people to [the meeting]. There were many staffers who were working 24/7 during the crisis who weren't asked to attend, even Santelli, who was a big star for the network during those weeks. Why not?"
In addition, the insider said: "News of the meeting is starting to leak out and people are contacting a number of the on-air people to ask if they've been muzzled by GE."

On first day as archbishop, Dolan says he won't 'shy away' from gay marriage fight

Gov. Paterson will unveil his gay marriage legislation Thursday and Archbishop Timothy Dolan is making it clear he will fight it.
Hours before his installation as head of the Archdiocese of New York Wednesday, Dolan said he would oppose Paterson's push to let gays and lesbians wed.
"You can bet I will be active and present and, I hope, articulate in this position," Dolan said in his first press conference.
"The topic you raise - other topics that are controversial, that the church has a message to give - yeah, you'll find that I don't shy away from those things and I wouldn't sidestep them."
New Yorkers should expect no less he noted.
"There's no escaping the fact that the pulpit of the archbishop of New York has a particular prominence whether I like it or not," he said. "And I don't know if I'm going to do anything different than in the past."
But "I made it pretty clear, we bishops aren't into politics, we're into principles," he added.
Paterson will relaunch the effort to legalize gay marriage Thursday with the reintroduction of a bill that failed in 2007.
He hopes to tap into the momentum of other states, such as Vermont and Iowa, which passed similar legislation recently.
Paterson declined to say how he'll counter his new opponent.

I live in Southern California where there seem to be more illegals than residents.
Part of me feels sorry for them because Mexico is such a horrible place to live right now. On the other hand, I work really hard to provide for my family and I don't think it is right that these people should get for free what we pay for.

I don't think it is right that they should be able to go to the emergency room for health care when I have to pay outrageous health care premiums.

I don't think it is right that they are in America without vaccinations that we require. We are welcoming all kinds of diseases in when not everyone is vaccinated.

I don't think it is right that my twenty-two year old daughter can no longer walk into our neighborhood 7-11 to get a drink without having to run the gauntlet of illegals standing around the door.

The solution is much like bob said ....there needs to be guards (military) armed and with orders that no one comes or goes except at the bordercrossings...and that includes a shoot to kill oreder...folks seem to forget that our border patrolmen are fired on regularly from across the border...nothing else is ever going to work. Mexico must do more to improve the conditions for her own people...they have vast resources..which are not used or are diverted to the benefit of a very few...When they can not foist their poor on us..or their criminals...they will make the changes they need to...or they will go down...

Well, gee, perhaps we (as in Americans) could strike a deal. Mexico could keep their drugs, cartel wars and thousands of illegals they send across our border; in return, Burger King could just change the name of their latest burger creation to just “The Texan Burger” and drop the reference to Mexico.
I am from San Antonio, Texas. Several years ago, we had a hospital go broke because they had so many Mexicans coming across the border to deliver their babies free at the expense of San Antonio taxpayers. There were billboards in Mexico advising Mexican citizens they could receive free maternity care in San Antonio (and other points north). Of course, once the mamas and papas got their feet in the door, good luck in getting any of them to head back south again.
I don’t mean to sound biased – I’m not. I just don’t think we should be giving people that are in this country illegally a free ride when we make our own citizens jump through the hoops to get help. Just what we need - another CZAR. How many do we have now?? How about Sheriff Joe from Arizona for about a week down there with authority to "do the job"?? Think that would make a difference? I do. I believe if the Border Patrol (bless them) along with local law enforcement were given resources and authority to enforce the laws, there would be a BIG difference in how things are going down there (and in the rest of the country).
If you missed the news lately, Obamy and his crowd are getting ready to pay back the Latino vote by trying to ram the amnesty agenda through Congress in the coming days. Annnd, the new effort has the blessing of the AFL-CIO and some other labor outfit - looking for payback and more dues I'm sure at the expense of the American worker. Time to warm up the ole e-mail to my delegation again - I do hope they are getting to know my wife and me on a first name basis 'cause we are giving them our opinion on many of these crazy schemes (bailouts, handouts, pork, illegal aliens, amnesty, etc) that is sending America as we know it down the tubes. I also mention "term limits" (no elected representative at any level - Federal, state, local level should be permitted to serve no more than two (2) terms). They don't like to hear that.
Oh, if there is a "tea party" near you, get out there and show your support. We are travelling 40 miles (one way) to attend one.

You are right - this has been going on for a long time, and I think the whole bunch of weasels (Dems/Repubs) are just that - weasels. It just so happens right now that the ones in places of influence and decision happen to be Dems - so, let's just address what is going on to them. If that changes, we'll seek to have whomever is in places of influence and decision do what is best for our country. Right now, I don't think anyone in D.C. has the best interest of America at heart. So, as Larry the Cable Guy so well says, citizens of the U.S. - it's up to you to "Git'er Done".
