I have no problem with the President attending this dinner it is part of the job. Every single President since Coolidge has attended. Not attending it would have been a snub to the press and the charity that the money goes to.....not good politics for anyone invited to decline. Sarah Palin was invited but could not attend due to flooding in Alaska. The President is required to do many things and attend many state dinners and the like is something almost every single head of state of every country has to do. Secondly the guy has to eat and the money goes to a very good cause, so quit making a huge issue out of his attendance.
What I do have an issue with is one particular joke which MSNBC television highlighted. Obama had the nerve to practically say he was God by making the joke "I will be so successful in my next 100 days that I will be able to complete them in 72 AND ON THE 73RD DAY I WILL REST". As if he were God creating earth and resting on sunday. Apparently he believes his own hype and the droves of mindless lefties that treat him as if he is God. He is a 'hollywood' President and the shine will wear off him quickly just like the shine on many celebs usually does. Enjoy this time in the lime light President Obama the reconing is coming where you will be judged by your own actions and will not be able to continually blame the prior administration. The sad fact about this constant finger pointing is that he acts like the job of President was forced on him. You asked for it and being that you were a Senator for 2 years prior you voted on much of the legislation that is the problem. Take respobsibility and start doing the job and stop blaming Bush. You might want to look at the Congress and your prior peers the Senate for blame.
Why do people continue to say that Obama is smart. Has he ever released his grades? I think people are assuming he's smart. A guy on CNN was quoted as saying Obama never made a grade higher than a C. Pretty sad if that's the case.

Jo Ann, learn the facts before repeating. From what I could find out, Obama finished in the top 10 percent in his highschool of 3600 students. He graduated from Columbia with a degree in political science, but his transcripts haven't been released. Finally, at Harvard Law School, Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude, which is awarded to the top 10% of Harvard Law School students.
Not the best, but not too shabby either. He must have gotten a couple grades better than C somewhere along the line.
Personally, I have no problem at all with them having an evening of levity and that's coming from someone who doesn't particularly care for the way the current administration is going about the nation's business, nor for the way Big O makes the U.S. look on the international level Didn't vote for him and see no reason yet to think otherwise.
However . . . (Okay, I hear the sighs coming! Ha!) When one looks at the guest list, you can't help but wonder why the price per plate was so damn cheap. Does anyone else see it that way? Just curious. With all those heavy hitters, whoever was in charge should have raised the stakes on the 'Entrance' fee and collected a more serious amount for those specific charities mentioned. Two hundred bucks a plate is nothing to those people.
That's just my opinion though - I could be wrong. I'm sure a good time was had by all without a doubt.

JoAnn wondered if Barack Obama was smart and if he had released his grades. She said some had said he never made a grade over a C. If he ever made a grade lower than an A he would have never made it into law school, much less Harvard Law School. I don't think grades are everything but just listening to him speak lets me know he is quite intelligent. He certainly seems smart enough to handle the presidency in these difficult times.

If you've got a problem with the Correspondants dinner, you really might as well get over it. They've been doing these things for years. If you didn't have a problem with Bush doing it, then having a problem with Obama doing it is pretty hypocritical and ridiculous.

An American was pulled over in LA last week and interrogated because of a directive from homeland security. Why was he pulled over? He had a "Dont tread on me" bumper sticker.

This event along with the Al Smith Dinner are nothing more than big schmooz fests in which the two parties along with the national media drop any pretence of representing different ideas or different constituencies or being "watchdogs" or adversarial. The basic underlying premise of these two events is: Hey we're all on the same team really, the Winner Class, and we have one common enemy (everyone else) so lets let it all out for one evening and have some fun.
It was at one of these events that then president Bush did his little comedic routine about not finding any WMD in Iraq and democrats and media in the audience laughed along at the inside joke. The former president and the press all laughed together at the "inside" joke which was that the Iraq war was started on a pretense that everyone there knew from the beginning was fake. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians killed, thousands of service men killed and wounded, "Ha, ha" was their response.
It's appropriate that one of these events is named after Al Smith, who was a Democratic governor of New York back in the 1920's. Al Smith was later fingered by General Smedley Butler, testifying before a congressional committee, as one of the backers of the aborted business coup against FDR in the early 1930's. The backers of the coup favored a form of government, that was business friendly (they hated the New Deal) and based on the European fascist governments of that period.

Why in the hell would this topic even come up unless it was to say "Thanks guys, wink, wink, keep up the good work of ignoring the real economic situation, and keep reporting what I say not what I do and I will help your industry financially". Did he praise any other struggling industry? Say automakers, homebuilders, manufacturers, etc....., No. This was praise FOR the media in return for praise FROM the media. You can see this on MSNBC on a daily basis, the most falsely headlined, and one-sided ignorant articles imaginable. CNN is not much better, at least they felt obligated to report on the release of on photo from the $350,000 N.Y. flyover, MSNBC never even acknowledeg the incident as news since it didn't favor Obama and there was no way for them to spin it so that it could favor him.
When you take the nearly incomprehensable wastefulness of this administration and combine it with a media that is becoming so obviously more government controlled on daily basis that the president can blatently thank them for their reporting, you should have no doubt that things are not going in the right direction in this country. When the majority of Americans don't look beyond the headlines and the headlines themselves are generated by the Government, for the Government, it is a big, big, problem. If any other government in the world was robbing its citizenry and wasting money like this administration there would absolutely be riots in the street. Media is used to generate "feel-good", "its ok this is normal" type headlines and stories to keep the public placated and calm while everything around them falls apart or undergoes radical change.
If you are trustworthy and are doing what you are suppossed to do, you do not feel any need whatsoever to thank the people who report on you and the things you do. Only if you know that you need them to skew their reports to potray you more favorably than the truth does does thanking them even cross your mind.

Ask the people who were there. Talk about needing a "sensitiviy seminar"....sit Obama down in the White House Movie Theater and let him watch the hours of unedited news videos from Sept. 11. People make fun of Obama all of the time. If people make fun of him for some reason because he's black, that's racist. If you choose to go the socialist route, that's ignorant. But in case you didn't watch the act, which I assume you didn't, he makes fun of himself as well. He's aware of the faults attached to him by public opinion, and they've been acknowledged. The left isn't out yelling "racist" every time there's a complaint about his character that's legitimate or has a foundation, but when it's mean-spirited or off-base, then there's a likely chance that a person's problem with Obama might come down to his race.

Michele was given high paying board member jobs that didn't require her participation due to Chicago politics as she was a senators wife. His "best sellers" didn't even sell as many as Hilary's and her's didn't get out of the first printing. GAYF, I'm an old fart who spent half my adult life in the military only to enjoy the ethocity mix. Two of my most memorable commanders were black and they treated their troops alike regardles of color. Fortunately, after 12 years of enlisted service, I busted my butt and became an officer only to emulate them. During my first five years I had five different command positions and often times was confronted with racial issues, and I remembered Sgt. Joe Friday, "The facts man, just the facts" and I was rewarded by the respect of my troops. I don't know of Wanda Sykes, but do remember Moms Mabley some time ago, and I have alwys enjoyed black and other comedy.
Stay with it, the country is under the most adept president I've known during my lifeime and I've lived through 13 presidentsnt better stuff (BS). In my heart, I know and feel that unlike the past "fake" president, this man is for "real!"

Three old white folks joined the MSNBC news reporter to provide coverage of the White House Correspondence Dinner. Everyone else must have been busy.
The reporter had her hands full with three crumudgeons. The frowning analysts' cranky lecturing reminded me of the Statler and Hilton segment of The Muppet Show! Crotchety conservative Pat Buchanon's history lesson of dinners past was gouge-your-eyes-out boring. The woman analyst schooled the audience on the perception of media bias. Listening to Buchanan retell tales of "the good ole days" of journalism was a real yawner. As the program began, all three of them continued to talk over the dinner speakers. I had to switch channels to watch it on C-SPAN.
When I turned back to MSNBC after the Wanda Sykes' comedy routine, the three analysts were sharing their reactions to both the President's and Wanda Sykes' humor. For the most part, they were okay with Obama's jokes. But they were shocked, Shocked I Say!, that Sykes offended conservative attendees with her humor. DUH! Not only did they feel that her humor was inappropriate and offensive, but they were convinced that it reflected poorly on President and Mrs. Obama. MSNBC should be embarrassed at the quality of their coverage tonight. It was a disaster!

The Fed bank is being sued for that information and has been for months.
