If I remember correctly, it was Powell that stopped the march toward Baghdad in the first gulf war that could have eliminated Saddam Hussein and prevented the second gulf war.

His credibility is nil, so he should just do the obvious and switch parties, especially since he favors bigger government. His claims that the Republicans need to be more "centrist" doesn't hold water since they nominated a real centrist (McCain) and Powell still didn't support him.

The fairness thing is a Hannity Hoax, the last time this was visited in Congress was 2005 Hinchley from NY introduced a bill to reinstitute the doctrine and it never reached a vote. Feinstein and Durbin gave lip service two years ago to reviewing the policy and decided not to bring it to comittee. Murdochs newscorp is afraid of some alteration to the deals he got from the GOP controlled Congress and FCC to allow him to control Multiple TV and Newspaper outlets in NY city as well as interests in radio providing a defacto management of the news. The NY times can't do it, Newsweek can't do it but Murdoch was given an exemption worth hundreds of millions in order to advance the GOP agenda. You seem to not understand that the current definition of Republican is not the traditional one. Barry Goldwater is not a Republican by today's standards. Ronald Reagan might not fit so well either. He probably wasn't mean spirited enough. Ron Paul does't fit, in fact, he wasn't allowed into some debates despite being more popular than other "mainstream" reps. Chuck Hagel isn't a rep anymore by the parites definition. Conservatism and Republican don't really overlap anymore.

Nation building isn't conservative yet your party (and my former party) seems to think that is a good role for our military. Expansion of govt is not a conservative ideal yet the biggest expansions have happened under Reps, specifically Bush 2 and Reagan. Bush did it with control of both houses for 6 of his 8 years so you can't blame the dems on that one. The influence of religion with govt. is not a conservative value yet that seems to be a key point of the current reps.

The Republican party is filled with draft dodging chickenhawks, anti science types, and those who support selling out to big business and the military industrial complx. The Dems suck but right now a LOT less than the reps. When your party produces people like Sarah Palin as top contenders you really are in trouble. Sarah Palin was the least qualified and one of the least educated nominees in US history. She was the mayor of a town of 7,000 my town has 36,000 and none of our politicians are remotely qualified to be president upon the death of the incumbent. She attended a series of colleges and community colleges none of which had entrance recquirements. Alaska would be the countries 17th largest city so unless you think the mayor of Austin or Memphis have sufficient executive experience you might want to rethink Palin. Powell is a Bronze Star and Purple Heart winner who was an advisor to the ARVN in 62-63 and was wounded while on a patrol searching for Viet Cong stepping on a pungi stick, He came back and did a second tour.

Biden did not get thrown out of anywhere or cheat on a Masters Thesis he failed a law school course for failing to properly footnote a 15 page segment of a much longer paper he was writing. He was one of the youngest Senators ever elected serving 37 years running for president twice and chairing both the judiciary and foreign relations comittees and by the time Governor Palin was applying for her first passport Biden had visited over 50 nations in his capacity of US senator. He raised his sons for five years as a single parent folloeing his wifes death and comes from a working class background and won his seat with help from almost no one it was an incredible upset at long odds. So I guess the short answer would be YES he is far more qualified than Mrs Palin as are thousands of other Americans.

I think you're forgetting the all important factor that it was out of our jurisdiction to prosecute him. He hadn't killed any Americans. Clinton had asked Saudi Arabia to prosecute and they refused. So what exactly is the point of apprehending him if nobody is capable or willing to prosecute him?

As far as Chrysler goes- they're shifting operations from a US plant to the one in Mexico which was established in 2007. Ford did exactly the same thing back in 2006. Both companies took advantage of the tax break they were given the past few years to hire foreign workers and create plants in Mexico. Throwing Obama's name in there to try and make him look somehow responsible is rediculous.

I don't think the 9/11 events were trained for and planned in their entirety in the less than nine months that Bush was in office. Much of this 9/11 planning had to have taken place under the Clinton/Gore administration. Stop blaming everything on Bush/Cheney. There is plenty of blame to go around.

And what in the last hundered days outwieghs the blunder of invading Iraq to stop WMD ( remember those), or the failed rescue of American hostages in Iran ( ever heard of Desert One), or the prolonged captivity of those hostages. How about the Bay of Pigs, how about Pearl Harbor, the Lusitania, the USS Pueblo, the Gulf of Tonkin? What about social issues: as a woman this country did not allow you to vote until 1920 ( about 90 years), Jim Crow laws, prohibition ( gave rise to the modern gangs that plauge the streets of our nation) the supreme court had to bring about many things we all take for granted such as all defendants having the right to a lawyer ( not just felonies), the miranda rights, intergrated schools among others.

Don't forget our illustrious President FDR who placed Japanese-Americans in interment camps during WWII. This tore apart families and led to financial ruin for many. Talk about paranoia!!!! Don't forget the Dems have had their share, too.

My fifteen year old daughter is better read and educated than Mr Beck and has a far greater understanding of the Constitution.Glenn Beck is another failed disc jockey who jumped on the hate radio gravy train at the right time. I agree with you about GB, but don't forget about Keith Olbermann who couldn't keep a job at ESPN and was fired from Fox and is now someone who is a "political guru." Both sides should be very careful who they watch and get their information from. There are bad and good apples on BOTH sides.

Some differences with Olbermann he was a success at ESPN and left in a disagreement stemming from an appearence on the Craig Kilborne show. He left FOX in an arguement because he correctly reported that Murdochs NewsCorp was selling the LA Dodgers, Murdoch did not want it reported.OLberman has worked for over 20 yrs in various phases of news journalism from cohosting the weekend network news to writing a column for salon to freelancing for CNN. He has a degree in Communications from Cornell University and has rarely had to retract statements or reported facts unlike Beck and his Murdock cohorts. Having a talk entertainment show with a political bias is perfectly acceptable by me falsifying reports, reading GOP talking point, creating news (Tea Baggers) and calling for violence and armed sedition are a bit beyond the pale.

Olbermann is often disagreeable. If you do not report legitimate news about your employer your news coverage is no longer valid. This is the point, your employer should not define the news and report only those things beneficial to you quickly then becoming Pravda or FOX news. Being a loose cannon in journalism is often a good thing, suppressing news for your own self interest is about as American as Borscht.

Well, I think you would have to admit that when the time was proper the story would have been reported. There is such a thing as timely manner and such a thing as being reponsible to your employer, at least within the scope of the law. Trying to "one up" other reporters is valid on some stories. However, when you can't control yourself on an issue as inane as the selling of a baseball team it calls into question your ability to control yourself and responsibility to others. Do you think any news organization does not define the news, i.e. MSNBC, Fox, and CNN? Being a loose cannon is not a good thing. Being truthful and responsible and valid are good things.

Although I agree with the spirit of your posting, it should be pointed out that the VP has virtually no authority. The VP can not give orders to troops, etc.... These things might have been his idea, but the blame falls on Bush.

I can't count the times that CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc. purposely mislead Americans when they played the "I want Barack Obama to fail" countless times! I watched the entire speech. He said IF President Obama's plan was to turn us into a socialist nation, he hoped he failed. Would anybody disagree with that? Or are you one of those the media has convinced would be better off with the GOVERNMENT taking a greater percentage of our income; having much more direct control of us, our paychecks, savings, insurance, etc. DOES ANYONE REALLY THINK THE GOVERNMENT CAN BETTER CHOOSE WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR INSURANCE NEEDS?

Why should I support the healthcare of someone working for a private company when their employees feel all Americans are not entitled to the services of a doctor or dentist?
