That's good. They can hang them in their jail cells since waterboarding is illegal under U.S. law, international law, and U.S. legal precedent. Beyond being illegal- according to the memos from the leaders of each of the military branches and the FBI objecting to the proposed use of the technique- it is also ineffective, counterproductive, immoral and foolish in light of the fact that it provides a recruiting tool for the people we're fighting.

Do you also want to give them medals for the people who were killed during these interrogations? Or for the guy who was sent to Syria where he was tortured because his name accidentally appeared on some list of terrorists (kind of what happens when there's no due process)? Or for knowingly keeping a large portion of GTMO detainees imprisoned (and mistreated) without due process for years after it was clearly established that they were innocent people who had been turned in by feuding neighbors for reward money...kept on the grounds that we needed background info for an "intelligence mosaic" on the region?

Her entire statement seems very odd:

A) If Pelosi asked about waterboarding, why would she specifically ask about a particular interrogation technique if she didn't know it was taking place? There are dozens of harsh/torturous interrogation techniques, why ask or have the CIA comment specifically about waterboarding if she had no knowledge of its use?

B) If the CIA lied to her, then why? Did they lie to every democratic lawmaker? Did they only tell the truth to GOP lawmakers? Or did they only lie to Pelosi? That's a pretty big conspiracy if that's what she's claiming.

Tired of hearing about her? Pelosi is the gift that keeps on giving! She is also a prime example of what happens when you promote based on political correctness rather than qualifications to lead. She has no business being a member of Congress much less the Speaker of the House. She has no choice but to go through with the investigation of torture under the Bush Administration, only now, she will be the prime target of the investigation. Get her under oath and then charge her with perjury, lying to Congress. Once again, proof of a God!

I actually watched this news conference. I've also, over the years, watched lots of folks testify on the witness stand. EVERYTHING about Pelosi's presentment, demeanor, tone of voice, verbal language and body language absolutely screamed "LIAR". She was also MOST defensive when she was telling the biggest lies, such as "I was told there would be no waterboarding" or "It wasn't until five months later, I received word - I wasn't briefed, one of my people told me...(that there might have been waterboarding)". A polygraph machine would have shaken itself off the table when she told those whoppers.

If a cop watched you acting and responding to questions that way on the street, he'd have "probable cause" to arrest you - it was that flagrantly false and that obvious that she was hiding something (in this case, anything remotely resembling the truth). And, when even she could tell that nobody was buying it, she tried the old "redirection" trick (just like after you catch your kids fighting and, when the denials don't fly, they start claiming "well, HE started it..."), with "Bush, Bush, Bush". "Bush lied", "Bush misled me", etc., etc.

SO, here's the deal: Bush did NOT lie to the American people about Iraq or Gitmo or "enhanced interrogation". There was no need to, particularly in the last case, because, still reeling from the shock of 9/11, we all d**n well wanted the b*****ds waterboarded if it would prevent another attack. I may not have supported the Iraq War, but if I had enough info to make that call way back in 2002, then certainly the (then) Minority Leader of the House had plenty enough info to make an independent assessment and cannot claim exoneration on the basis of some claim that she was "misled". I fully supported and still support Gitmo and rendition and "enhanced interrogation" and I suspect Pelosi was every bit as supportive of them all the way up to the point where she suddenly perceived those things as a political liability. However, instead of now saying "Hey, I was wrong" or "I changed my mind", she instead denies everything. She is a liar and a moral coward and her lies and moral cowardice, so obvious and on display in this shameful attempt to deny her role, her knowledge, and her position, is proof positive that she is unfit to exercise ANY authority. That's not a "conservative" vs. "liberal" or "Left" vs. "Right" judgment. That's a human judgment. Speaker Pelosi has proven beyond a doubt that she is a craven, lying hypocrite whom neither side can trust or respect. She is, without a doubt, one of the most contemptible creatures ever spat up by the world of politics.

There is no basis for accusing the Speaker of lying, but we have a long history of Bush Republicans deceiving the American people. There is no reason to believe that the Bush administration would not also deceive members of Congress. What Speaker Pelosi says is consistent with the ongoing revelations of the ethical deficiency of the Bush administration. I can believe the lady more easily than I could the proven liers that now are trying to divert attention from themselves by smearing her.

Waterboarding, like the other methods I mentioned results in no lasting damage. That has to be in the definition of torture - lasting damage.

When you beat someone, pull out their fingernails, or electrify body parts, there is lasting damage.

If all you inflict is pain, without bodily harm, you do not have torture. You have pain. Just because something is painful, does not make it torture.

The evidence is showing that most of these methods involved fear without pain. Fear is not torture. Fear is just an emotion.

The fact that the subjects of the interogations could resist our methods proves it was not torture. Despite what you may have seen on TV, you cannot resist REAL TORTURE.

If you are really being tortured, you will spill any secrets. Why do you think that real spies and spy plane pilots are given cyanide pills? Because they know that in every country they will be tortured until they reveal all. So they kill themselves upon capture.

We have tried the softer, gentler approach since WW2. It hasn't worked. We have basically lost every major conflict (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq). What if in WW2 we had said: "We can't bomb those Nazi factories, their might be civilians there." "We can't drop the bomb on Hiroshima, think of the children."

Now people are saying that putting a caterpillar in the cell with the terrorists is torture.

We had better pray that we never get into a real battle. We will lose with the level of weakness that I am seeing.

There's no doubt that Bush "spun" info in support of invading Iraq, but I, for one, had all the necessary information to reach my own, contrary decision on it, which makes me incredibly dubious of anyone's assertion that they supported the Iraq War because "Bush lied". If you are so dumb or lazy or ignorant or uninformed that you allow someone to talk you into swapping the family cow for a handful of "magic beans", then you weren't lied to. You're just dumb.

Ditto the whole "Gitmo"/"rendition"/"waterboarding" issue. The necessary information was out there, in the public domain, for anyone who was interested to know what actions were being taken, including "enhanced interrogation". McCain knew and spoke up. It's inconceivable that Pelosi, who did not speak up, did not know. Her assertions of ignorance are lies. The fact is that I, as a private citizen, had all the necessary info to know the things which she, as the ranking Dem in the Congress and on the committee overseeing these matters, claims she was unaware of. I cannot credit that.

I disliked Pres. Bush and disagreed with him on numerous matters, but the notion that he was some kind of "Svengali" who could deceive an entire nation ("BUSH LIED!") is absurd. The most obvious part of her lie is the fact that she should have known since she is the speaker of the house. She was clearly briefed. She was in the know. She can't deny it without it being a lie. 1. It is very clear that Dick Cheney is having an effect on what is going on in the government right now. Two things have happened since his appearance on Sunday. 2. The CIA will get her. The CIA is only interested in protecting their reputation and not interested in politics, per se. She insulted their integrity and they will get her. Why would they say that they were specifically NOT using waterboarding? According to Pelosi, that is all that was said about waterboarding. That whole statement makes no sense. No one would make that statement unless waterboarding had been specifically brought up. Nothing she says makes any sense.

This has got to be the sickest most convoluted issue the Republicans have ever come up with. A true sign of desperation. A few questions to ponder:

1. Who else was present when Pelosi was briefed? I can't imagine there were no Republicans present. Why didn't they object? And if they did object, what power would they have in stopping such action without bringing before Congress?
2. Republicans have been defending the use of torture and the Bush administration's use of torture saying it's perfectly legal and proper. If that's true, why would they be concerned that Pelosi knew about it? After all, they believe there's nothing wrong with torture.
3. Whether Pelosi knew about this act (perfectly okay according to Republicans) is immaterial. As a member of Congress, she had no power to order or authorize torture. That's up to the executive branch. Remember 6th grade civics classes? Congress makes the laws, the Executive Branch has the responsibility of carrying them out, and when questions arise, the Judiciary has the final say in interpreting whether the law has been violated and whether it violates the Constitution.

Mr. Boehner has been a very vociferous critic of Pelosi. What did he know and when did he know about the use of these enhanced interrogation techniques?This is pure partisanship on the part of the Republicans. They spent more time and taxpayer dollars on trying to get Clinton for having "sex with that girl" than they are willing to dedicate to a criminal policy that has cost thousands of lives and has put the safety of the entire country at risk.

"Waterboarding" has become the latest buzzword. But the issue goes well beyond that to include all types of torture techniques -- or a some might softly say "enhanced interrogation -- or as some boneheads might call it "discomfort."

Mr Boehner should be a critic of Pelosi. Her actions have done more to harm this country than interrogation techniques ever did. Her inability to take responsibility for the things she has done is disgusting. Now that the tide is really against her, she is going to point the finger anywhere to blame someone else. If we are criticize Nancy P being on a comittee that okayed harsh interragation, who was the chairman? Why did the majority if not all of the politicians allow the CIA and their votes through?

No, the Dems did not have control of the house at the time of the first briefing. She was though, the ranking Dem on the committee and thus privy to be briefed. It was after the Dems took control of the house that she became speaker and also eligible to be briefed.

So what is the real question, her successor on the comm., when she found out what was happening sent a letter to the CIA expressing her concern with water boarding. Why didn't Pelosi??

Pelosi has moved to the top of the house and one would think she is an intelligent and capable person, regardless of weather or not you like her politics. If people would understand, "Water boarding is not cruel tactics for gathering information from terrorist holding information. Punishment was declared cruel and unjustified only if loss of life, or limbs resulted from the tactics. Water boarding is similar to what is called "Drip Drop Torture, Light Torture and Music Torture. Actually Music Torture does more harm than water boarding as it damages the nerve fibers that translates sound waves to the brain. When water boarding is used, the detainee is put on a flat board and the head lowered and feet raised. Water is poured from the waist down and flows over the face. Not one of the detainees drowned from this procedure. As a matter of fact, try it out. All you have to do is hold your breath in spurts to let the water run off your face. After all, it's only water. Now, get caught in a 3rd world country and try sitting, strapped, into a chair and having your eye tooth pulled without Novocain or any other pain medication. Now think about the blood that would flow down your throat. The pain and amount of blood going down your throat would have more of a chance of choking you to death than water boarding. Now the media will not explain this to your because it's not in their favor to print good or honest news. Take it as you wish, but I have seen it used and it is very effective in getting information. Everyone should realize the media will take many pictures and edit to build their own story. The media reporters have one thing on their mind. "Pulitzer Prize." Just to back up my story to friends I know around me, I kept the paper. Here is another. I had a Brown Recluse spider bite on my arm. I got blood poisoning to where it traveled up my arm and my arm had a serious sore on it. We have very good insurance and I had to get a presrciption that cost over $1,300.00. I called a local media TV station because health care was an issue, as was the MRSA virus going around. I asked them how people without health care could afford the medication to fight off the MRSA virus. They wanted to meet at the clinic and interview me. I agreed. My mistake. I believe you. Torturing people who disagree with you could easily provide the biggest thrill of your life. Of course you would have to go to prison if you got caught because it is against this country's laws.

That's right, madmom...the libs don't want to show video footage of the 9/11 attacks because it might insight violence, but because these terrorist who killed innocent victims have a little water splashed in their face they call it torture, and want criminal charges brought up on an administration that did all it could to protect us from another terrorist attack. These alledged torture techniques are soft compared to what radical muslims do to their own family members on a whim.

Please do some research and find out what these so-called torture techniques really are. These detainees never had it so good. Start with the fact that the average Gitmo detainee has gained 20 pounds in captivity. There's even a medical term for it now: "the Gitmo gut."

The techniques used against al-Qaida members, such as Abu Zubaydah, included one terrifying procedure referred to as "the attention grasp." As described in detail in the Justice Department memo, the "attention grasp" consisted of:

"(G)rasping the individual with both hands, one hand on each side of the collar opening, in a controlled and quick motion. In the same motion as the grasp, the individual is drawn toward the interrogator." Torture...I think not.

Next up the interrogation ladder came "walling." This involves pushing the terrorist against a flexible wall, during which his "head and neck are supported with a rolled hood or towel that provides a C-collar effect to prevent whiplash." As the memo notes, walling doesn't cause any pain, but is supposed to induce terror by making a "loud noise": "The false wall is in part constructed to create a loud sound when the individual hits it, which will further shock and surprise."

Further up the torture ladder -- from Guantanamo comes the "insult slap," which is designed to be virtually painless, but involves the interrogator invading "the individual's personal space."

If the terrorist manages to survive the above horrendous tortures, the most savage interrogation technique at Guantanamo was "waterboarding," which is only slightly rougher than the personal-space insult slap.

Tens of thousands of our troops were waterboarded over the past three decades as part of their training, but not until it was done to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed -- mastermind of the 9/11 attack on America -- was it considered torture.

This is not torture...listening to MSNBC go on and on about this so-called torture crap, and having to endure Pelosi lie over and over again, and watching Obama and the liberal-media print non-stories like this to divert attention away from the present issues at hand and what he is doing to America and Americans is TORTURE.

Given what the victims and families of 911 endured, given an opportunity, I think each and every one would have chosen torture at Gitmo compared to the hell they did in fact suffer.

When the cleaning crew came thru the underpaid worker took the papers home and used them to line the cat box. So you see she really does have a good excuse. Just to clarify on who was in control in Sept of 2002, the time of briefing in question. Dems had slight voting majority (look it up) in Senate and Republicans controlled house (although with nowhere near the majority Dems have now). Dems still had a lot of say so in the checks and balances system this country's govt is supposed to operate on.

Term limits are a must. And Senators terms should only go for 4 years not 6. The President of the United States doesn't even have a 6 year term (thank god) so why should Senators get a longer term than him?

Sure the President and Cheney who are no longer part of the Government might pay for crimes that people committed, but the Democrats would definitely lose more committee heads and members as to what they knew and did not stop.
