Who cares if he has cheated? Big deal, old news. But a secret trip where he has gone missing!? What is he - 17?!? Idiot.
Now there's an intelligent comment. Maybe we should start with Clinton.
I do not approve of what he did privately, but leaving the state office without letting anyone know where he was is very uncalled for. If this man has spent no taxpayer money on this woman then I think the media should butt out, but that said he should probably resign for not telling his staff where he was in case of an emergency.
Bill Clinton used taxpayer money for his affairs, not necessarily spending money on them, but having sex while we were paying for him to protect and govern our country (business hours). At least Sanford came out before the media found out, Clinton lied to the end until he was impeached.
Traditional family values as defined by the Right winger party: taking off for an Argentina rendezvous during father's day, conceiving children at 17 in the governor's mansion, searching out homosexual encounters in airport bathrooms.
I now understand why they look down on us liberals.
I didn't vote for President Clinton (twice) to be my husband and father; I voted for him to be my President, and he did a fine job. I wouldn't (EVER) have voted for Gov. Sanford, but his private life is no more my business than was President Clinton's. He's a hypocrite, and a slimebag, but if he is ousted, it should be for dereliction of his duties, not for his sexual mores. His hypocrisy is an issue for the voters, and he's term-limited, so all I care about is whether he shirked his job. If so, boot 'im (and elect a Democrat).
Who does care if he cheated, but he left the state of SC - the Governor - didn't tell anyone where he was for an entire week? WHO does that? and the whole time it's an affair? and if anyone brings up Clinton again - give me a break - at least he was working the whole time and making this country better!
It wouldn't be such a big deal either if the Republicans didn't paint themselves as above reproach, party of "family values", blah blah blah. It's a bunch of crap. They are so hypocritical. And the homosexuals are ruining the institution of marriage? WHAT?
Forgetting the fact of his infidelity, he left the state without a Governor. That would be the reason why there should be a request for his resignation. Then he covered it up with a false statement in the form of a press release.
His personal sham of a life should not be the reason for his resignation, as it is his personal life.
Why should we care who he sees? It seems that his wife does not care so why should we. I am tired of people worring about other people's affairs. It happens evereyday of the week. He did not commit adultry with us but with his wife. I think in the Bible it refers to wife or husband not public. Judge not lest ye be judged, condem not lest ye be condemed, and forgive and ye will be forgiven.

^This.
Being a creepy hypocrite shouldn't cause him to resign.
But lying to his state and neglecting his duty to it should!
What he did was wrong, but who is perfect? Everyone has sinned at one point in their life, the only one free of sin is God. He has never left me for a mistake I have made, therefore, why should we, the people, even his WIFE, leave him? I would never leave my husband if he cheated on me, that is something we would need to work through. Guess that is why we have 18 successful years under our belt. People these days are to eager to give up, no one values a commitment. Only losers give up, winners are the ones that say, "Hey, we have walked through fire and made it!" This man is governor and should continue to hold that office. Just because he made a mistake does not make him a bad person. He who is free of sin should cast the first stone.......
LETS STOP THE MADNESS JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE CHEATS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY SHOULD QUIT THEIR JOB, IF SO THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF TALENTED PEOPLE OUT OF WORK!!!
I’m not saying that it’s ok, not at all but this idea that someone who cheats should quit their job is foolish.... unless you are a marriage councilor or a pastor.
Another one bites the dust. Goodbye to the Grand Ole Party.
Let's see... President Clinton lied about being unfaithful.. and then when the heat really came on, he finally admitted it... but he wasn't a governor.. just our AMERICAN PRESIDENT....
We have one of the most immoral men in the office of the U.S. Presidency that I have ever known in my life right now (infanticide, etc., etc.,)... but that's ok...he wasn't a governor... just our AMERICAN PRESIDENT....
Have you people watched the news in the past five years?
1. Mike Tyson went to prison for rape... I just watched him in a movie where I'm sure he made millions.. but that's ok....
2.CEO's just robbed the AMERICAN PEOPLE blind for billions and billions of dollars... very few of them will be punished but will continue to lead rich, healthy lives while the rest of us suffer more and more...
3. We just elected a man into the office of the U.S. who is ashamed to even be an American (or is he an American?) Who goes around apologizing..even for the idiots who voted for him... but that's ok..
4. We have gay people burning down churches and killing Christians... but that's ok... It's just Christians.. (watch for the hate crimes bill people...set to destroy Christian values)
SHOULD HE RESIGN BECAUSE HE HAD AN AFFAIR??????? Give me a freaking break... NO!
Dana, please, leave your naivety at the Church doors: this is politics, infidelity counts, especially since the GOP loves to tout their family values position as a reason to court the conservative vote. the GOP is anything but conservative.
He didn't just cheat. He started cheating a year ago. His wife found out months ago, and he still did it again when he felt the 'urge' last week. What good is an apology or any explanation in that context?
Oh, NOW I get what they mean by family values! It's something the repugs want their drones to practice, but not the politicians. Hypocrites! Bye Bye GOP!
It is unchristian saps like you that keep our awesome country in the ruins. If we had more Christian people in politics, we would have far less problems. Prime example..Barack Osama Bin Ladin..... He is a muslim, a half breed at that. He is kinda like paying hundreds of dollars on a labradoodle! He is a mutt, just like lots of other politicians running our country. If the governor still wants to continue, great! Cheating does not make him a bad politician. At least he was honest and fessed up to his mistakes. How many other 'good' politicians do that...Hmmm, let me think and I will get back to ya!
He is a muslim, a half breed at that.
Nice knowing you Dana! This line should get you some time suspended. I'd suspend your IP from newsvine for good, but I don't run this ship.
I have, however, suspended all my reading of your posts. "Ignore this author" has worked quite well.
Kari-string-of-numbers: Let me guess: you show leniency based on one's political affiliation? Your string of BS is obviously taken straight from Faux News, or worse ("infanticide?" And YOU are the one who wants a break?). Just say it: the Good Governor should get a break because he's a Southern Republican. Right?
And good riddance!
I think I am bothered by the same thing a lot of people here are....the hypocrisy of the "family values" party from this guy to the Palins. Then when we call them on it WE'RE the bad guys and should stop invading THEIR private lives (although they have no problem telling us what do with ours)
Leave the guy alone, he's toast anyway. He'll go the same way as Hart, Spitzer and all the rest who thought they'd never get caught. These guys are supposed to be the smart ones, they are in the public eye and they think they can hide an affair. Sanctimonious idiots is what they are.
Since he was unable to perform his duties as governor, and in fact went awol, he should resign. What an idiot. I expect public officials to be above such stupid behavior. They must be held to the highest standards of behavior, since they represent the public trust. Disgusting.
I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Thanks Republicans for at least giving me something from your side of the isle.
Shouldn't the GOP just cash it in? If you agree, vote me up the list. Lets have some fun.
anymajordude - You are right. I never said race had anything to do with being a bad politician. I simply said it would be a far better run county, country, world, if we had Christian leaders in charge.
Phillip P
Republicans stand for Family Values almost as strongly as they do Anti-abortion. The Anti-abortion groups may some day realize that banning abortions and/or over turning Roe V Wade is just a carrot on a stick the Republicans use to draw them in. They can't over turn Roe V Wade because all of their bastards will grow up and reveal their fathers were hypocrites.
Great post !
For everyone that thinks his disappearance was no big deal; I challenge you. Simply disappear for at least 7 days (he would have been gone longer had he not 'phoned in') and see what happens. Don't tell your spouse, co-workers, boss, etc; simply leave. Let's see how 'understanding' your personal situation turns out. Let's see if your FORMER employer will agree that this isn't political and that you simply needed to 'break'.
BOUNCED!!!
Wow Dana, I can't wait to see what Tyler might have to say about your posting. You call yourself a Christian but yet you spout those words of hatred? Think about it. If Jesus was standing next to you, do you really think He'd approve of what you just said?
Hypocrisy is out in full force today!
He is a muslim, a half breed at that.
Okay, what, Dana-1174888? Not on topic. Not factual [though I certainly won't be moderating based on that] and then just weirdly racist. You're suspended for a day for violating #5 of the Code of Honor.
Don't post like a racist.
I have always found that a zipper was a very simple piece of mechanical equipment. It is easy to operate. If you can't operate a zipper properly, how can you lead a state or a country. When base desires can so easily override what your intellect knows is going to destroy you when you are caught, how can we trust that base desires (such as revenge or greed) will not override other intellectual imperitives?
Freedom of speech.. We're all adults.. I think we can handle it. And besides.. she isn't going to change anyone's mind.. people are going to believe what they believe. I want to read ALL of the posts .... good or bad... I disagree with you removing ANY of the posts...
Why are we so hung up about sex; that is between he and his wife; lets get over this game, the elected Representatives of the people are ordinary men and women trying to do a un-oridnary job.
The problem isn't that he had sex, it was that he abandoned the State he took a vow to lead for 7 days just to have sex in another country! It's fairly simple, he failed to do his JOB and should either resign or be ousted based upon that fact. I couldn't care any less that he had an affair, but he broke the law by not informing the Lt. Gov. as to where he'd be, and kept out of touch, violating his oath. Any Gov, no matter their party, should be ousted on their arse for doing that. Oh, and he sure as hell can kiss being President goodbye.
BTW, Dana, I suggest you do some reading of history aand see what having Christian leaders has succeeded in doing for the World in the past 1200 years. Wars, pestilence, famine, death, not to mention slavery, terrorism, genocide, forced addiction to control people, etc... Just the first four are bad enough - aren't they the Four Horsemen? So lets do without "Christian" leaders for a while and see how things go. Besides, Pres. Obama IS a Christian.
I agree that it's frustrating that the whole discussion is about resigning "in light of his infidelity and his secretive trip".
His marriage/family/mistress are the issues of those individuals.
His responsibilities as governor of a state are the issues of every one of his constituents - and interesting commentary for the rest of us. He failed miserably as the leader of the state. You cannot simply disappear from your job without telling anyone where you are going. If he had said he was taking a much needed vacation, no one would have said anything. He shirked his duties. Left the state vulnerable. If he were an average employee, he would be fired. If a CEO pulled this, the board would fire him. Same difference.
saxon - it's not sex it's untrustworthy to not only his family but to the state of S.C. He took an oath to that office to uphold honor. He needs to go. From what I understand, the Lt. Governor would be a much better leader to finish out the term.
Contesa this is high-larious:
Bill Clinton used taxpayer money for his affairs, not necessarily spending money on them, but having sex while we were paying for him to protect and govern our country (business hours). At least Sanford came out before the media found out, Clinton lied to the end until he was impeached.
Clinton got an after hours blow-job ableit in the whitehouse but he was still around to do his job. Sanford went awol, abandoned his duties and put his constituents in jeopardy. In the process Sanford used and then left two different tax-payer paid for vehicles at two different airports. He went awol during the work week and left paid staffers to repeat his lies to the press instead of working on state matters. Sanford has admitted that he has been to Buenos Airies twice before while in office and most recently on a Commerce Department Trip (paid for by all of us). Sanford also spun a web of lies to cover up his affair, an affair he only admitted to the public after going because he flew to Argentina to tell his m(r)istress it was over only after his wife caught him 5 months ago. One do you think he could have called his latin lover in the intervening 5 months to let the person know it was over? Two, if hadn't yet let his lover know it was over couldn't have done it over the phone now? Why would his wife let him go to Argentina to tell his lover it was over?
Kari, Freedom of Speech doesn't really apply to a privately owned blog. The rules are posted for all to see and those who fail to adhere to them risk being deleted and suspended. No censorship going on here, just Tyler making sure postings apply to the rules. If it weren't for people like Tyler, this board would very quickly become infested with hate speech, advertising, and more. Take a look around the internet, there's blogs/message boards like that around and while they may be entertaining to read for a few minutes, one just cannot take them seriously.
Dana: Your inability to parse between your religious beliefs and ethical standards for any elected official is unfortunate. Dereliction of duty by leaving the state effectively without an executive in charge and then lying to his staff about his location is reason alone for his impeachment and the primary reason he should resign. I could care less about his affairs in his personal life. I do find it extremely hypocritical that the GOP attempts to legislate laws and discriminate against entire segments of society based on their moral convictions, yet they don't live by the same convictions that they impose.
I have to ask you this - did you support the impeachment of President Clinton because of his affair with Monica Lewinsky? How did you feel about that and were you arguing in defense of President Clinton like you are Gov. Sanford?
Oh, and Kari, just how is it that Obama is the most immoral president ever? Hmm? Do you even know what you're talking about?
You wonder why people cannot take you seriously!
I disagree with you removing ANY of the posts...
You don't have to report anything, Kari-398894, though I'd appreciate it if you did - use the '!' button. But this isn't a freedom-of-speech protected website.
Think of it like a cafe or bookstore or something. If you show up drunk and waving your genitalia about - the IRL equivalent of what Dana-1174888 was doing - it's well within their rights to refuse service and/or forcibly kick you out.
Here are the rules, for the unfamiliar.

Back ontopic:
The problem isn't that he had sex, it was that he abandoned the State he took a vow to lead for 7 days just to have sex in another country!
I think it was 6, but that point stands. It would have been a major story no matter why he'd been gone.
The real question is: Does being a politican mean that you have no private life? And further should he really care what people think about the situation? I think not! It is a private matter that has nothing to with any of us. The difference between Sanford and other politicans is that he told everybody. I honestly don't believe one of them is faithfull for even would be when posed with the opportunity. Okay maybe the ladies are faithfull but that is a mental difference between a man and a woman not between political values or beliefs.
Now on to beliefs, although it is important to practice what you believe it is more often not the case. For example parents tell a child not to do something because it is dangerous and then the parent goes and does it instead. It is not that it dangerous it is just that you dont want the opportunity for them to get hurt, you will take the risk instead. We elect these people, place the stress and weight of the United States of America right in their lap and expect that they are super human. Well I hate to break the news to you, they are all human and have all made mistakes for which most of the posters in this conversation with have them outed for.
Give the man a break, he made a mistake and will pay for that through his family not through you or me. Quiting or forcing his resignation will not solve the problem and is not even necessary but it will make those who are so opposed this type of behavior feel better. For me I just want the whole country to be run smoothly with as a limit government intervention as possible (no you cannot be CEO of my business Obama).
For crying out loud lets get this country back on its feet so that we stop hearing about stupid things like this and start talking about things that matter again.
Oh, and 1.12 restored. Mike Tyson got out of prison 14 years ago, though, so I don't know what you're thinking of there.
The issue here is that he fled the country and NOBODY states side new where he was...and you're all up in arms about his cheating?! Let me make that point again...HE DISRUPTED GOVERNMENT BUSINESS IN HIS STATE BECAUSE HE SHIRKED HIS RESPONSIBILITIES AS GOVERNER TO GO ON A UNAUTHORIZED 'FIELD TRIP'. That is why he should be removed.
Soon it will be easier to count the evangelistic GOP leaders? that haven't cheated, lied, bought sex or tried to hook up in restrooms. This is why the Dems will stay in power, GOP = Morals Light.
All of the Repugs are the same...they preach and rant about "family values", being born-again Christians and all have trouble being faithful to anybody or anything. Even Sarah Palin asked for her problems by going postal about "sex education"...birth control pills...etc saying that it was an abomination. Look what's happened now. No one would give a crap about any of this if they weren't so holier than thou. Senator Craig screaming about gays in the military, while he was banging some male prostitute...Foley coming down hard on the immoral behavior of gays and young people, while he openly solicited young pages in Congress. Let us not forget "W"'s advisor, REv. Ted Haggard...what a hoot!!!!! No wonder the Republicans lost this last election! They are a joke. A freakin' joke.
he left his office for days and no one could contact him and this person is the Governor of South Carolina? SC well then it is OK, no he should resign and go use his little brain, he deserted his job, something Clinton never did
DMD, right on. I couldn't have said it better myself.(except for the Obama part)
He made a mistake and the only thing they could fry him on is leaving the state without a chain of command. Serious business but if he's done a good job, overlook one mistake that he owned up to and didn't deny, deny, deny. I'd rather have him as my governor than the one we had that let his friends fleece our state's coffers for tens of millions (Ohio) then denied any knowledge of wrongdoing. And I'm questioning my sanity defending a republican leader that was considered for a run for president. I doubt that would ever happen now but as far as a governor goes, let him finish his term. It's time we elect a person for the position and not the party but it's got to be a two way street. When they all run for office it's all about bi-partisan then after the election the walls go up.
Dana, you are not a Christian! You are a horrible human being who uses the church to justify your bigotry. Most Americans are mutts and half breeds. Please take your ignorance and hatred where it might be welcomed, you freak!
I could care less if he has an affair. However, he left without following the law and handing over control to the Lt. Governor and for that reason alone he should resign.
It really doesn't matter to anyone but his wife what he was doing in Argentina. It was a little hypocritical given his comments during the Clinton impeachment regarding morality and integrity. However, if we throw everyone out of office because of hypocrisy, there won't be anyone left. The troubling part for me, is that the left the state (and the country) without meeting the requirements that he make provisions for action to be taken in his absence in the event of an emergency. He allowed his personal needs and desires to supersede his responsibilities to the state of South Carolina. This is the reason that he should step down. He is going to be going through a lot of personal issues in the next few months and obviously cannot be counted on to keep his personal issues from impacting his professional duties. Only his wife has the right to punish him for his marital indiscretions; the entire state has the right to demand accountability for his abrogation of his duties to his office. Just sayin'
to Kari...I don't hink anybody gives two hoots if he had an affair but disappearing when he was on the state's dime..definitely something to have concern about. He needs to get his own house in order before he tries to get the state's house in order
Republicans blow. Democrats get blown. The writings on the dress.
Gary, thanks for the clarification. It's always been hard for me to tell them apart.
Having an affair is not enough reason to have someone resign. But if we find out that he's been avoiding his work responsibilities (more than just this one long trip) or having his staff continually cover for him, or in any other way "favoring" this woman or her family - then it's clear it's time to go.
but for now, we need more details - and they will come out. Wait a week, and see, and then we can think about what to do with the adulterer.
Also, someone had commented that republicans like boys, which was uncalled for, but are you forgetting Barney Frank and his little male prostitution ring his boyfriend was carrying out at his home?
as if going awol for week is not enough detail? his resignation would be appropriate even if it were the case that he disappeared for a week with his wife without telling anyone or without leaving someone in charge. this is an utter disregard of the safety of the people of SC. he put his constituents in jeopardy.
you made your point - that you are a right winger and your only interest to to bash democrats, gays and anyone who doesnt fit your narrow point of view - anything non-partisan to say or do you just like to waste everyones time?
The man's private life is between he and his wife, and I am now pretty certain she knew exactly where he was the whole time. However, what I would be concerned about if I were a citizen of South Carolina, is the fact that he went away for a week without telling anyone where he was going. Suppose someone had recognized him and used him to make some sort of political statement? For goodness sakes, the man left the US and it's territories. Any number of things could easily have gone wrong. He acted extremely irresponsibly, and those in charge in S.C. need to take a closer look into this.
Contesa - don't try and criticize Clinton and hold Sanford faultless. Your silly Republican roots are showing.
In terms of their private lives, it's up to their wives (and children - thank for skipping out on father's day, dad!). They both are classless and have publicly humiliated their families (along with countless other Republicans and Democrats). The only difference is that Republicans love to preach family values. The sermon from the pulpit is getting pretty tiresome to the rest of us sinners.
In terms of doing the job they were elected to do, Clinton did not disappear for an entire week living the country without a leader. Sanford leaves the entire COUNTRY without telling anyone, totally neglecting his state and his duties. That's completely irresponsible and the people of South Carolina deserve better.
Of course a Democrat would NEVER cheat......oh wait......
Oh yeah....and Democrats don't love to preach family values ....because they don't have any? No wait..... hmmmm...
This cheating is hardly a political matter.....both parties do it equally well boys and girls so get off your little self righteous high horses and get over yourselves.
The leaving the state for a week and noone knowing where he went....now that was just stupid and being a resident of the fine state of SC......and a Republican.....I say he needs to just resign from public office and set his OWN house in order.
Anyone public official (regardless of political affiliations) who presents themselves as a moral upstanding "good Christian".
And uses their time and power to condem and repress people people who might not share their alleged "values", should be asked to step down immediately.
ïf we find out he's been avoiding his work responsibilities?" "um, yes, we already know that - he disappeared for a week. It's called job abandonment...
resign!!
This guy simply cannot be trusted!! How can you be honest in your job, when the very basic place in your life, that being your FAMILY, cannot trust you because you betrayed them? Then to stand there during elections and spout the Family Values Repub platform, what a freakig liar once again!!
Finally to turn down federal funds to help your state because YOU find it morally objectionalbe.... YOU find it morally objectionable??? Not thought to your constituents... nope, let them do without, because of YOUR moral objection. YOU PIG!!!
as for his trip... his family said this was not unusual, he did this stuff a lot!!! so, this doesnt seem to be a solo stunt. I wonder.... was he hanging out with his girlfriend on this trip?? He was gone over Fathers Day .... did his family tell him to go take a hike.... and he took it literally??? I would not be surprised.
Yes, Gov... do everybody a favor and step down... go to the woods and live in a cave by yourself.
What a waste. Maybe Bill Clinton can build an annex onto the Clinton Library and Trailer Park for him.
Dave Vitter or John Ensign might be able to put him up for awhile. I'd say Mark Foley and Larry Craig too but according to Sanford his liason was with a woman. Then again Sanford is a liar too.
Clinton didn't campaign on "holier than thou values" while waving the cross nor did he disappear while tending the business of the United States. That's the difference -- a very BIG difference.
He sure did pull out his "Baptist preacher" counseling sessions and start thumping his Baptist roots when he was in that mess though didn't he? I seem to remember he was getting counseled by (of all people) Jesse Jackson. And we all know that Jesse finally admitted to having an out of wedlock child with some woman. Repubilican, Democrat, it doesn't matter. All politicians think they can get away with anything they want. Cudos to Mrs. Sanford for not standing "behind her man", finally!! a woman with some sense.
I love these "holier than thou" Republicans who are always boasting about how conservative and moral they are ... until they get caught. This is two (Ensign last week) in two weeks, right?
It has nothing to do with Republicans, both parties do it. The problem with judgemental persons like you, is that you do your cocaine, cheat on your spouse, take welfare payouts, refuse to help the poor and don't pay child support and then you think you're better. Where can you site a quote of the Governor stating that he is: "holier than thou?" BTW, when did you start using Elizabethan English? Or do you only use it when you're tripping out on morphine and heroine, after smoking cocaine and beating up a homeless person? You are a hypocrite.
It has everything to do with party line as the GOP espouses Family Values. Making him a lying hypocrite. So mull that over while you smoke your crystal meth.
Both parties MAY do it, but the Republicans overwhelmingly act like they are perfect and family values are everything, they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. The Democrats know they are human and don't act like they are above rapproach.
I hope he resigns and it has nothing to do with the affair. He's a lunatic. Who leaves for a week and doesn't tell anyone?? And then tries to make his own staff look bad? Terrible. He's been an embarrassment to SC for a long time now. He needs to step aside.
"Holier than thou" repubs that have affairs and "Do as I say not as I do" and "Not in my back yard" dems, like Gore and his electric bill, Kennedy and Feinstein with wind farms off Hyannis and the Mojave desert, and Obama with his nicotine addiction. Face it, they're ALL hypocrites. Doesn't matter what party they are. It isn't about political persuasion, it's about arrogance and ego.
It has nothing to do with Republicans, both parties do it
you are right that both sides do it, but only one side can't seem to stop preaching "family values" to score cheap political points.
Are you to dense to see the difference?
"Snoop Marky Mark" you must assume that Go O'bama 08 is of the African American race...interesting assumption "Dude"...and what does your name make me want to assume?
Are you so blinded by racial discrimination and hatred that you think that the black race are the only ones who abandon their children, do cocaine and the rest of your filth. Well, Snoop...here's a scoop for ya...natta!! Every race, religion & skin color is capable of doing exactly what you preach...it is not a matter of race...it is a matter of moral values and all about how you treat others and yourself. I could go on but I shall not get too deep for your seeming lack of intelligence.
I am white as white can be and I voted Obama...for intelligent reasons...not for the color of his skin! I even was considering McCain until he was bullied into putting Palin on the ticket...see where that got him!
I detest ignorance and intolerance! You sir ''Snoop'' are ignorant, mean and malicious!
Sanford should resign for leaving our state with no one in charge which was his job. What he did was inexcusable for state matters....what he did to his wife and children is also; but that is a matter between him and his family.
I must admit I had a good laugh because my husband got it right, he said he was out with some 20 yr. old! When are those politicians going to learn...they are in the public eye...if you are going to do something nefarious...get out of office!
Read above. I AM willing to acknowledge that you can't stand on the "moral" high ground if you're behaving immorally. Are YOU equally willing to admit that you can't stand on the "health care" high ground if you're accepting it for free for a lifetime for yourself outside of the plan you propose for the rest of us, you can't stand on the "Green" high ground if you use more electricity in your home alone than a small city and own a fleet of vehicles, or force someone else to go solar if you refuse to go there yourself? I am NOT dense. I recognize hypocracy when I see it, regardless of party affiliation. CAN YOU?
Kimberly, you betray your own bias by assuming that "do your cocaine, cheat on your spouse, take welfare payouts, refuse to help the poor and don't pay child support" is describing any specific ethnicity.
Those are DEMOCRAT "values" - Legalizing drugs, the lack of family values, wealth redistribution (welfare), taxing charities (Obama's plan.) And although I cannot find a specific democratic policy on not paying child support, it isn't a huge stretch given the fact that Obama and other democrats regularly state that the poor pay more than their fair share of taxes (which is nothing.)
Snoop Marky Mark said nothing racist. Insulting yes. Disagreeable even. But he has a valid point, EVERYONE cheats. If the Republicans had a monopoly on cheaters, there wouldn't be a single Democrat in office.
The problem with judgemental persons like you, is that you do your cocaine, cheat on your spouse, take welfare payouts, refuse to help the poor and don't pay child support and then you think you're better.
Nice crystal balling, Snoop Marky Mark. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Go Obama '08 and Kimberly-997469, you should mind the second part of that rule.
...
Are you so blinded by racial discrimination and hatred that you think that the black race are the only ones who abandon their children, do cocaine and the rest of your filth.
Crack is associated with the black community, but cocaine sure isn't - more colombians and white folks. I don't think Snoop's attack was race-based.
They still haven't caught up with all the "tax violators" our President has tried to get into office!
This hasnothing to do with the subject! Where is your head? Maybe you owe taxes and have a guilty concience. Any way on the subject, this govenor isn't the first and won't be the last. It's between him and his wife now.
What BS, currently on MSNBC, the interviewees are stating what COURAGE Mr. Stanford has. What BS, the troops in the Middle East have COURAGE, Stanford is a loser, not trustable, another lying public figure. RESIGN Mr. Stanford, just RESIGN...
The word courage is very misused. Thank for bringing that up. Kinda like the sports talking a "courageous" golf shot.
Actually you are confusing Gov. SANford with Sir Alan STANford, the indicted financier. But they are both losers.
I find it interesting that republicans are held to a different standard than a democrat. Bill Clinton had extra affairs several time but that was okay. He lied to the ameerican people and would never admit his affairs. Any extra affair is completely wrong no mater what party you are from.
All the bias news media should be destroyed because they would not print the truth if they had to. All they want to do is to spread gossip and attack only half of the people. All the media could fall off the side of a cliff and would not be missed.
The problem is no one in the Media has attacked your sainted right wing nut.
You're right, there is a different standard for republicans, but it doesn't have a damn thing to do with the media. When a party tries to act holier than thou and impose their bs family values on everyone else, they hold themselves to a higher standard. If they don't live up to it, then they deserve what they get. Maybe the republicans should learn to let people live their lives privately as they wish. Bring back the libertarian view of social issues to the republican party.
The difference? Bill Clinton did not proclaim himself as the fount of morality. Gov. Sanford and the Republicans have hitched their wagon to that premise, and it is their hypocrisy that gets them in trouble. Same with John Ensign, Mr. Promise Keeper, Mr. Clinto should be impeached or resign, or Mr. Gingrich who discussed divorce from his first wife while having an affair with the woman who would become his second. Then worked over Clinton for Lewisnky all the while having an affair himself with a House Staffer behind his second wife/first Mistress's back. Hypocrits thats the Republican Mantle.
You are right, of course. And in this supposedly "post partisan" administration, I see an awful lot of folks here presumably posting from the left who cannot help themselves when they conflate Sanford's behavior to be representative of all Republicans, generalizing at a relentless pace.
The bitterness is astounding.
So much for the party of family values......Vitter, Sanford, Ensign, Craig, Gingrich, and a whole lot more.
No. Of course he never said he was "the fount of morality". Instead Bill Clinton simply portrayed the women (more than one) who came forward and said he RAPED them as trailer trash and had them hounded by the IRS. The media ate it up and trashed the women as well. Until it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he lied about one of them. Were the others vindicated. Nope. Their stories were never published past the trailer trash part. No hypocrisy there. Gotta stand by that Democrat! He's untarished because he never claimed to have any morality? And if you believe that reasoning you should go out and bury your head in the sand like the ostrich you are.
Both parties are screwy (pun intended) and neither deserve our undivided support.
It is absolutely astounding how these liberal bloggers are grouping ALL republicans in this. I thought John Edwards (dem) was the one who touted the morality of marriage, even though he has a love child. Do you like it when republicans and conservatives say that ALL democrats are homosexual murderers? Doesn't make sense does it? Clinton had affair, Kennedy murdered that girl, Barney Frank has a boyfriend who ran a prostitute ring from Frank's home, Spitzer touts how prostitution is sooo horrible and yet he is boinking a prostitute every time he turned around. Democrats believe in murdering babies in the womb and upholding homosexuality as something that should be praised. This is murder and sin, but do you like it when we say ALL democrats do this?
The ONLY reason he should be ousted is if he used taxpayer money for his affair.
The difference? he left his state for a WEEK AND DIDN'T TELL ANYONE WHERE HE WAS GOING! I totally disagree with extramarital affairs, but people do it all the time, and if it's not affecting his work performance, then it is not a cause for resignation. but he ran off! If I randomly left my job for a week, without telling my boss where I went, I would sure as heck be fired. He put his hormones before his job duties!
I find it interesting that republicans are held to a different standard than a democrat.
AGAIN, IT'S BECAUSE THE D'S DON'T PREACH FAMILY VALUES AS THEIR BIGGEST POLITICAL WEAPON. They SHOULD be held to a different standard as far as marital infidelity is concerned, they asked for it!
Are you to dense to understand this?
No, he should be ousted because he he's performed poorly as a govenor and because, most importantly, he left the state without telling even the Lt. Govenor that he was leaving. That is unacceptable. I live in SC, and although I don't think on any given weekend that we are going to have a crisis that requires the Govenor be on hand, but I do expect that when my state leader takes a vacation, he tells someone in charge. (although, truthfully, our state is better off without him in charge!) What if a riot had broken out? What if a tornado tore through the up-state? In times of domestic crisis, you can't waste time trying to figure out who is going to make the call on important issues.
Let see Ted Kennedy drove drunk went off a bridge left the "woman" in the car too drown while he scampered home to get his attorney's and family. Democrat moral values are as bad or worse than republicans. Which is worse drunk driving with homicide involved or having an affair.
Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton. That's all you can come up with and you say that we hold the repugs to a different standard? At last count I can name 26 repugs at the state and federal level, most of whom had a thing for children. NICE GUYS!
My issue with Sanford is that he deserted his job. Walked out because he lost the battle over accepting stimulus funds. So he hopped a plane and left the country for a week while leaving no one in charge of SC. That is inexcusable. If he wanted a week off, fine, take it. But assign your lt. gov. in your absence. We mere constituents can't do that in our jobs. I expect the same from our politicians.
In terms of morals of the two parties, there's something about politics that seems to bring out the worst in people, or maybe it brings out the worst people period. I just resent that the Republicans preach family values and so many act like you have no values if you're a Democrat, then in two weeks there are two Republicans mightily falling.
Lied to his family. Lied to his staff and State. Left without providing backup leadership. He's suffering from a serious lack of judgement, he should resign and take care of his family.
Enough with leaders who allow their hormones to lead them into stupid situations.
I agree they need to learn how to keep it in their pants and then to shut their mouths!
Yes. For the rest of the working class, this would be considered job abandonment.
I think he's a perfect fit for the treason state of South Carolina. They have a loser flag and a loser govenor. It's all good!
We're just thankful that we don't have a loser like you living in our great state. I am disappointed in Governor Sanford, but I am damn proud of the state of South Carolina and her heritage.
That had to be the rudest thing I have ever read. I'm from NY, but the last time I looked at a map of the UNITED STATES, SC was a wonderful part of this great nation. You owe them one HUGE apology!
Do you even know what our flag looks like? Maybe you are under the assumption it's the Rebel flag, but it's not. It's a dark blue flag with a palmetto tree and a crescent moon. I personally think it's a beautiful flag to compliment a beautiful state.
Yes. For the rest of the working class, this would be considered job abandonment.
As a SC resident those I know, including myself, feel he needs to step down. He has not been able to run this state before, how can he expect to be able to run it now. While listening to him talk today I can not believe how many times he referred to God. I guess he should be singing "Don't cry for me South Carolina"......
I am a dedicated Republican from across the border in North Carolina, have longed admired Governor Sanford and considered South Carolineans fortunate to have a governor of his character instead of the corrupt Democrat machine politics we have here in North Carolina. Yet, I feel that he should resign and let Lt. Governor Bauer take office. I can forgive his infidelty but have a much harder time with how he deceived his constituents. Had he been a Democrat however, I am sure the press would have attempted swept the matter under the covers.
I think it was just a typo.. Said he wanted to climb mountains....I bet he did, they just didn't have any dirt on them. Said he decided to do something exotic....was misspoken...meant do something erotic. Resign Gov. Sanford...let somebody with morals run the state.
Yes, absolutely, the librul media would have swept this right under the rug with Eliot Spitzer's whoring around.
Right Fred, cause ONLY Republicans are stupid enough to wave a banner of Family Values while they jump on a plane to go bone their mistress.
Stupid is as stupid does and he should resign for breaking the oath of office, but, he should'nt leave the GOP, he's in good company.
How soon we forget.
Elliot Spitzer was a Democrat. You didn't see any carpet-sweeping when that story broke.
The only problem with your point about Spitzer was that he was found out about by an FBI investigation and he what he was doing was illegal. What Sanford did was not illegal, however I do agree that Sanford should step down because he left the state without anybody in charge.
I have been watching MSNBC the supposedly "liberal" Cable Network. They are now making Sanford a saint for telling us where he has been. "What a man, telling us the truth". What did the media have to say about Elliot Spitzer? Resign. Where is the outrage? This Govenor has belittled the values of Democrats and liberals for years. Stiffed President Obama on the stimulus package and it took a court ruling for him to accept the money. He doesn't care about the children who will benefit from schools or sick people needing medical attention. He has no sympathy for the poor and weak. He just gets up leaves for Argentina and to hell with the people of South Carolina. What a weasel.
Bill;
I think you're absolutely right about Sanford, and especially the part about refusing to take the Federal stimulus money that the people of his state (hell, ANY state, now) could desperately use. As far as Spitzer goes, the reason he was crucified as he was (and rightly so) is that he persecuted others (both legally and in the public forum) for their so-called lack of 'perfect' morals. Only to be uncovered to have been seeing a prostitute all the while he was doing so. He was 'holier than thou' to the extreme, and actually deserved even worse than he got.
In Sanford's case, it was the disappearing act that I hold against him. Unless he's on a high horse preaching about my family values, then his family values are nobody's business except his wife's and kid's. As for lying about where he actually was, if it was on his own time and money, then that's none of our business either. But to be AWOL from his job, which is governing his state, without at the very least being available to his staff in the event of a crisis or emergency, is a dereliction of the duties which he sought, won and is responsible for. At first, I didn't believe that he would not have told his wife where he was going, and she was just covering for his privacy, but now it appears that he is the type of man who WOULD do that to his wife. While I still believe that that issue is between him and his wife, and not us, it DOES demonstrate what a lowlife this guy is.
Both, actually, and he was hated by a lot of people for it. This is my neck of the woods, and I followed that closely for a while! The only person standing beside him when he went down was his wife, and I felt so sorry for her at that news conference.
Spitzer - too bad about his lack of judgment because he was going after the financial industry. He would have done a good job if not for leaving himself so vulnerable to ridicule.
How typical and predictable......the louder some GOP buffoon preaches about this or that, the more likely they are guiltier than anyone!! Another nail in the republican coffin.
the affair is personal problem between him and his wife.....BUT leaving his state with no other person told or no one in charge shows he can not handle a position and a personal life problem He should not be in a responsible position..........................
I wish healing and hope for his family and hope he does the right thing and admits he should resign as he can not be responsible wish him healing too but it starts by admitting his failing
Sanford has fought hard to protect South Carolinians from themselves. It is very sad that immediate gratification was more important than protecting the future (re the bailout money.) Defeat is a difficult thing to accept when your philosophy has been tough love for the benefit of your constituents. I just hope the pressure doesn't destroy his family. The children suffer forever, and the separation is always difficult.
Oh, he's done a great job protecting us from ourselves...we're still at the bottom in education, our roads are falling apart, our unemployment is 2nd highest, he wouldn't take money for our state set aside for teachers and law enforcement...thank GOD we have him looking out for us!
It wasn't immediate gratification. According to him he started this a year ago. His wife found out months ago and he still did it again last week. What good is an apology in that context?
Sanford has fought hard to keep the little guy in his place and kept the wealth where it has always been................that's the core mantra of the GOP.
Why support education?? That just means you'll have more and more intelligent people in your state that will wise-up to the GOP methods of Class Warfare.
Keep 'em dumb and feed them lies while spewing Family Values, Religion and Fear. The GOP is nothing more than a party of lies & deceit.
Well I don't feel bad for him because it was his choice to do this. Now, people are saying they will help him during this but the issue is this..... if he didn't get caught then he would not have said a word!!!!!!!! There is still the issue of not leaving the State covered and people should not be sympathic to this because it is HIS JOB! I think he should resign ASAP....
I am a conservative, my attitude is simple, if you cannot keep the most sacred of oaths how can you be trusted to keep the others you have taken. I was disugusted with Clinton, Edwards, Spitzer, Ensign, Vitter, and now Sanford. Sure will be easy to vote Republican.. there are so few of us left. Thanks for the betrayal Mark.
If he will chest on his wife and children. He will take money...
Not so much greed as selfishness. Although you can argue they are the same thing.
I agree. If he had gotten his family's permission to play on the side, then I would say the affair was his personal business.
However, since he broke an important VOW to someone who is suppose to be the most important person to him, I question his honesty in EVERYTHING he does.

I am a Conservative Republican. All these yahoos that cannot keep their own house in order should not live in a house owned by the state.
