he is doing what every one of them are doing but they havent got put on the front page
YET!!!!!!!!!!
Amen to that...Clinton didn't step down and he lied about his affair!! Believe this is more political than anything.
It appears that this man used taxpayer money initially for his trips. That is embezzlement. It's illegal. Most of us would be fired from our jobs immediately if we charged "fun" trips to our expense account. If he is smart, he will resign before someone prosecutes him for embezzlement.
The Gov. Mark Sanford should not step down. He should teach all his four boy's how to sleep on the bible, and our christian history, and focus on the family. He need's to send his kid's over to "Focus On The Family", and the "Moral Value's" "Instutution's" of propaganda, and find "legal" way's to fly to Argentina. God said that those that have sined a mortal sin, there children will carry and their children will carry it four four generation's, guess who will condem that? I guess your figured they will blame those that are sick?
What???? At first I thought I detected sarcasm but with the illegibility of this paragraph I admit I am somewhat confused, again, WTF????
Though I am disgusted by the ever-growing list of hypocritical, morality-thumping right-wing politicians and their escapades, I could care less about their personal lives, sex habits or promiscuity. However, the incredibly irresponsible handling of his duties as governor during his patheticly juvenile indulgence demands his ouster, period. There should be no room for forgiveness of that dereliction of duty. Clearly this man cannot be trusted to effectively lead his state.
Duck, I hope you are not lying to your wife and children so they don't even know where to find you! And telling his staff he was playing "outdoorsman" on the Appalachian Trail and then was walking the coast of South America while being incommunicato is a firing offense. For the days he disappeared, NO ONE was in charge in S.C.! Add to that, he used taxpayer funds to make up a reason to visit his mistress, which is criminal. The sorry excuse for a man doesn't seem to know how to tell the truth; he only told the truth when absolutely forced to...and then started quoting the Bible! Pretty sickening!
Well Ted Kennedy did not resign nor did Bill Clinton. The list goes on. Barney Frank is in an out of marriage gay affair and no one calls for his resignation. It's easy to accept the misfailings of those of your political persuasion, but hell hath no fury if it is the other side.
This man is a hippocrit. He is from a party that considers that Democrats should be impeached for extramarital affairs (Clinton) yet it's Ok for him to remain in office though he denied his affair at first just as Clinton did. I don't really care that he had an affair. That's between him and his wife. But to be so self righteous about Clinton's affair and recommending that Clinton resign, and not to do so himself is the height of hippocracy!!!
Did you hear what you just said? We spent months and months in an investigation of Clinton's indiscretions! His family endure the ridicule of being slung thru the mud. It's amazing that when the shoe is on the other foot, you guys want LENIENCY and GRACE AND MERCY! When will we get back to "practice what YOU preach!"
greenbriar, please, enough with the Kennedy and Clinton crap...they, as far as I remember, and I'm old enough to do that, did not moralize and proselytize with their indiscretions. You want Barney Frank to resign because he's gay, seriously, how old are you and what century do you live in? Get a grip, people understand human failings. The problem being when those same people get on their pulpits and condemn others for those same human failings, it smacks of hypocrisy! In other words, "do as I say, not as I do"! It has nothing to do with political parties other than the fact that the GOP made such a "show" of being the party of "family values". Yeah, whatever!!! Sanford should resign and his wife, if she's smart (and I believe she is quite), should divorce his lame, sorry, pathetic a**!!! IMHO!
Sanford's getting raked over the coals because he's a hypocrit. I like his wife's style, though. She's kept to the high ground. Where are the leaders with character and moral fortitude in this day and age? Not every man is a philanderer. Show me a conservative Christian leader who practices what they preach and I'll vote for them.
Democratic politicians don't get whipped over moral indiscretions because the party doesn't pretend to want to uphold moral values. Flame me if you want, but it's true.
As a SC resident, I must tell you that the affair is not the reason that 85% of the tax paying citizens from SC have asked him to resign. We want him to resign because he used tax payers money to fund at least one trip to see his mistress, went AWOL for almost a week, and is now acting completely mentally unstable. It has nothing to do with the affair or any other politicians affairs in the past.
Greenbriar, Sanford shouldn't resign because he had an affair...it seems like MOST politicians have them (At least the Democrats don't thump their bibles and "Christian Values" while doing it). The man left no one in charge while he "followed his heart". He cared more about nookey than he did about governing his state! Also, he used tax payer money to have liasons with her. Don't forget, it's his own party that is asking him to step down.
Greenbrier, no one thinks this man should resign over his affair...if all the politicians did that we'd have few people running the country (well, maybe that might make sense). Sanford lied to his own staff, his constituents, the taxpayers. He left the government of S.C. up in the air while he had his fun, he didn't even bother to check in with his staff, he lied about his whereabouts to his staff, his family, the people of S.C. He did not come clean until absolutely forced to. He used taxpayer money to fund a trip to see his mistress. I think there is a pattern of malfeasance here. THAT is why he should resign...IMMEDIATELY. Sorry to post this twice....my first post did not appear and I thought it was lost.
Bill Clinton remained in office, and continues to wield immense political clout, in spite of numerous "bimbo" eruptions.
Other politicians have been brought down immediately on the first revelation.
I think Sanford needs to assess his political base and his ambitions, and then decide what makes the most sense for him.
He does appear to be "bleeding all over" the front pages...but that may be due to his being a conservative republican in a media dominated by the opposition.
His actions do make you wonder what was going on in his head and heart.
Yeah, blame that "liberal media bias" myth again. Hate to break it to ya, but the MSM is dominated by corporate conservative ownership. Otherwise the Clinton affair would have been brushed under the rug, and Elliot Spitzer's foray the same. No, they were raked over the coals mercilessly, and didn't have the convenience of a pop-icon's death to help dilute the story.
Republicans need to learn to die by the gun they have used themselves.
HIs personal life is his to deal with. The hypocrisy continues for most Republicans in public office - they apologize, then claim they can still do the job, while Dems resign. Guess the Dems have more class. Sanford was in the forefront of demandign Clinton resign for lying about his affair; does Sanford really think it is different tha he lied as will, but just not to a jury? Legally, possibly different; morally, Sanford has much more for which to answer.
Gary Hart ended his political career.
He shouldn't necessarily resign because of the hypocrisy alone - through it is appalling... He abandoned his office and his state! He is a Governor - a chief executive- and he put cheap, selfish indulgence ahead of his sworn oath to be responsible for the state. Had he simply put a plan in place, notified his cabinet and the Lt. Governor that he was traveling outside the country, and exercised some degree of concern and thoughtfulness about his responsibility, this would simply be a case of hypocrisy. Sadly, this is dereliction of duty on top of hypocrisy - that is a crime for which he should either resign immediately or be fired as any other chief executive should.
His thinking is seriously flawed if he is still calling this a love story. If he still thinks of it that way, he should step down and move to Argentina.
I agree that he should move to Argentina, or somewhere far away from his poor wife who has been insulted yet AGAIN. Maybe his "soul mate" is into powerful men, not the ones that blubber and lie like ten year olds.
I'm an independent, and I think the private lives of office holders should remain private. If every person who ever fooled around was to lose their job, there would be a lot of people on welfare and unemployable. All I want from public servants is good government, and as long as their private lives don't interfere with their ability to protect the public interest, I couldn't care less who they have sex with.
Do you know how many politicians out there are having affairs.........probably 95% of them? They are just the lucking ones and haven't been caught. I think he can still perform his job duties he just needs to leave his wife. If his wife wants to stay with someone who is saying he doesn't love her and he is going to try and love her again then she is just as stupid as he is....disolve the marriage and move on!!!! Millions of people go through divorces everyday and have children but we all survive.
Coachris and Fred, The whole point is, Sanford DIDN'T do his job. He took off without simply handing over the duties to the Lieutenant Gov., lied to his staff about where he would be, did not communicate with his office for four days, lied to cover up where he had been, only disclosed the truth when he was forced to and he used taxpayer money to pay for a trip to see his mistress. THESE are the reasons the REPUBLICAN PARTY is urging him to resign.
I'm an independent also and I agree with you wholeheartedly.
This clown is a true depiction of the "religious right". He could be the poster boy for the "family values" the GOP has preached to us for years. If the Republican Party condones this behavior and does not call for him to resign immediately, they are destined for a long tenure in the gutter. I don't know how his wife and sons can stand to see him stand up and admit more transgressions. When does it stop? What else has he done? How many more lives has he destroyed? I hope his wife takes him for everything he has. You go girl!
Please use your own brain, don't just spew what you hear on TV and radio. Not all Republicans can be classified as "religious right". The Republicans do not condone his behaivior, but they're not real eager to give up their right to keep and bear arms, and the goal of a free market economy to name two issues. I'll take a fillandering creep who'll vote for my right to carry a weapon for protecting myself and my family, over a saint who wants me to just turn the other cheek or is too afraid to be real.
No, all Republicans are not part of the "Religious Right" but most (if not ALL) members of the "Religious Right" ARE Republicans. And Sanford was definitely the poster boy with all of his Bible waving, family values, religious morals ways. I'm not saying that people don't have the right to be human; we ALL make mistakes....it's just that this man has proven to be a hypocrite and, at the same time, he is being preachy and sanctimonious about it!!!!! Has he no shame???
If a man can't be loyal to his wife, how can you expect him to be loyal to his constituents?
That's a good point.
Also, this man and his wife have intentionally chosen to be public figures, and to be paid by taxpayers. When you choose a profession in which you will be subject to public glare, you know what you are getting into. This man has made some very bad decisions.
The fact that he's been unfaithful, and has "crossed the line", what ever he means by that shows he is a hypocrite (see his reaction re: Clinton) bIt it is not relevant to his ability to govern. His leaving the country without telling his staff or arranging for a transfer of power reflects poorly on his judgment, and does provide a basis for his detractors to say it's time to leave.
I think he is an ultimate jerk, not because he feel in love with someone else, but what fool would publicly tell the world he'll try to fall back in love with his wife. His wife doesn't deserve this.
It is disgusting what he has done to his wife and boys. He is such a hypocrite, demanding Bill Clinton resign. He makes me sick just to look at him. Resign and go back to Argentina for good!!
no I do not think so. if it is the way that it plays out then they should clean out all of the government completely, state and federal of all the immoral and unlawful transgressions. from this to graft to greed to theft to everything including an old alky with a vehicular homicide under his belt
Republican, Democrat, gay, straight; everyone fails at some point in their life. What is so hard to stomach are those who publicly vilify others for what they themselves are doing in private. Now he needs our forgiveness? Where was his for Clinton? Now he wants our acceptance for his seeking true love with his soul mate? Where is his acceptance of gays? We all want love and acceptance, no matter what our party association or personal life looks like. So stop the preaching of morals and just do your job. Which, if I'm not mistaken, for Mark Sanford required that he told someone that he was leaving the state without a governor for several days.
Common now, if you didn't want President Clinton expelled for his escapades then why would you want this guy out. He is guilty of being a hypocrite for sure, but nobody's perfect. Do not judge lest you be judged. This kind of thing has been going on since the dawn of creation or big bang whatever you believe. If somebody lies before a grand jury, then they should be whipped and thrown out on their arse, but not for being weak to the temptation of a warm heart.
Can we please get past the division of Right and Left, Republican and Democrat, Liberal and Conservative. None of us actually fall into any of those categories if we're real honest about it. Most of us fluctuate depending on the issue. Can we please start thinking for ourselves and take it one issue at a time.
Put the agenda's aside, detox from your political party and supporting talk show, and take a breath of fresh air that is independent thinking.
Don't put me in a box!
PS It's a pity that we'll accept ANYONE into office as long as they are one of our own political party. I think, and vote, for myself! But I must admit, it's tempting to be a Dem(winner) right now.
Tony, the thought of someone like you with a gun in your hand terrifies me, most especially after reading your last two comments. Good grief!!! Shouldn't we expect more from those we vote into positions of power than just bein' good ol' guys! Seriously, just, and I rarely say this on NV, STFU!!!
Yes-Clinton lied about having sex with an intern but Sanford claims to have high morals and he up-holds the sanctity of marriage, now defined as one married man and his mistress. I personally don't care who he has sex with. I have a problem with self absorbed hypocrites who abandon their jobs and family in pursuit of sex! Time to resign Mr. Governor!
I don't remember ever seeing 'Wild Bill' Clinton without his bible on any given Sunday. Morals are good for a country and a people. Their all hypocrites because they lie to get elected. Republicans and Damnorats alike.
He should resign not because of is philandering but because of his dereliction of duty. Stop comparing him to Clinton. Clinton never let his fling affect the office he swore to uphold. Not only did this guy go AWOL but he also had the audacity to ask his wife for permission to see his mistress, talk about brass.
He's not a pervert, just a republican who thinks he's comparable to King David, but then most of them probably do. I think he should shut up and go away. A spot under some rock is missing its inhabitant. The wife may not be as smart and heroic as it appeared; I agree she should change the locks and never look back.
Bravo and well said Greenbriar. Makes me wonder what's going to happen when all of Obama's dirt fully comes to the surface... What will all the self righteous, idiolist, zealots have to say then?
The pattern of logic with the majority of them astounds me.. We can kill babies, but we can't hunt. We can punish farmers for having cows that poop for about a 6 year lifespan since we've forced them to make cows live on concrete,, we've reduced their comfortable healthy lifespan by about half, but we can't punish people for having too many children that poop for 80 to 90 years. We won't take care of our own elderly and retired soldiers who have served to preserve political and religious freedoms, like no other country EVER has. But we will hand out free welfare, social security and medical care to any foreign immigrant,, illegal or legal, and give them twice or more what we will give our own people, who actually paid into the already failing system their who life.
This country is a$$ backward and getting worse with every bill that moron president we have passes. Not like the republicans had much to offer in the way of a president either.... Our best hope dropped out to make room, for McCain, whom I liked, but thought that his choice in running mates was good, but the death nil of his campaign,, and I actually kind of like her.
What does any of that have to do with the article? Sorry to stereotype, but this seems to be the Republican /Conservative response; lots of red herrings and off topic comments complaining about President Obama.
I'm speachless at his audacity and that train wreck of a press conference, with a swiped tear here and there. I feel for his wife and children, to have the man and father you love stand up and say the other woman is the love of his life, his soulmate, must have been beyond humiliating and hurtful. He should resign and if God is just, rot in h***..........
I'd be willing to bet you money that Barney Frank would be married if he could be where it would be 100% recognized. Massachusetts, yes! Most of the rest of the nation, including DC, no.
