Central Pacific Financial, in which Senator Daniel Inouye owns shares, didn't meet criteria for federal program but gets $135M after a call from his staff.
Hawaii senator helps bank he founded get aid

Uh-oh. Smells of 'special interest'...
LOL REEKS of special interest and politcal favors.
The world has gone mad and turned upside down. In a total role reversal, Republicans are involved in sex scandals and Democrats are associated with financial scandals. Inouye is possibly too old for a "crime of passion," but you never outgrow money.
there is nothing wrong here we is dumocrats this is what is happening in washington, also with waters in L A but that was swept under the rug and this will be too..
There has always been some corruption in government, but now the chicago mafia is in the Whitehouse and that is why this is more dangerous than ever. We are told that if the congress doesn't approve the 'green job tax bill (cap and trade bill) then the administration, under the EPA, will impose regulations that will most certainly be worse. So obama and his actions say he really doesn't care about the citizens of the United States of America because destroying this country is much too important even if it has to be justified with false data and imbedding treasonist legislation in the form of 1,000+ pages of legislation!
This will quickly disappear from the news, since he is a liberal. Sure stinks though.
The media nad this administration are quickly running us into the ground. That's OK, I'm sure it's all Bush's fault.
Surprise!! Surprise!!!! Politicians using the taxpayers for their own benefit. Wait till they get their greedy little hands on health care dollars.
Just like fellow Democrat Comrade Pelosi pushing for the AIG Bail-Out. Her husband is heavily invested in AIG. America can not survive 4 years of this Administration, Obama's false promises and spending with the support of Comrade Pelosi have got to go. It's time to prepare for impeachment and a new administration.
smells more like corruption. putting tax money into his own pocket
Sounds like another one has his hands in the pie! They all know where to look to smear each others reputations. Pretty much where all the big scandals come from --they know because they are doing the same thing or have been. Have always said that Nixon would never have lost his office if the other party hadn't been afraid of him and been doing the same darned thing. They know which rocks to look under because theirs are in the same pile.
Join FireCongress.org -- time to clean out the government and get rid of all the tzars --them first!
Well, this isn't unique to Dems. This is the very reason why we need to keep as much power over business OUT of the government's hands. If they're doing this with the bail out money, then you know damn well they'll be doing the same @!$%# if we give them power over health care. Some Senator will have money invested in some pharmaceudical company, he'll have influence over what gets prescribed etc... and voila, how to make money 101. We need to be looking at how to strip goverment of power, not how to grant them more.
I bet if they dig deeper, they will find another "Hawaiian" politician involved.
Yet another reason for term limits.
This appears to be the in thing with our elected..."take care of yourself before anything else"......... So much for an honest government...seems once they get elected they all become what they claimed not to be before..and that is crooked. It is time to clean out this group or congress and place term limits on them all...stop automatic pay for life for just one term...they have surely shown none of them are worth it. Does not seem to be an honest one among them.
"Even if Inouye were directly involved, it would not violate the rules the Senate sets for itself, experts said."
Does anything else need to be said? F#%k em all.
I hope everyone asks themselves, did I use my vote last election to change the congress or did I vote for the incumbent, self-serving politician, be it a Republican or Democrat , who has become entrenched in office. How is it that congress had a 12% approval rating yet 96% were reelected? The "my congressman is ok, it's all the others that are the problem" syndrome was, as always, in play. These politicians need to loose there job! They are responsible for the state of this country. The American people have gotten the Government that they deserve. Next election, vote against all incumbents, or look in the mirror to see the real problem.
Peanuts, all of it! Only 6% of the stimulus money has been spent to date, with the remainder scheduled for 2010. As much of the 600,000,000,000 remaining as necessary will be used as the largest campaign slush fund in history to buy 2010 congressional seats. Bribery, threats and blackmail is the Chicago way! A wise old man once told me, "sure death is arming your enemy" and progressive socialists, not Democrats, will destroy our economy, way of life and Republic with our own money. We have already armed the enemy of our country, the enemy of both Democrats and Republicans! The enemy of our country stands with the Ayatollah, not the freedom seeking Iranian students and citizens. He stands with Chavez, Castro and Ortega, not the Honduran people and the CONSTITUTION their President was attempting to rewrite when he was removed!
No sheet sherlock, this coconut head was also involved in the government funding two great lakes cruise ships built in '99 in Jacksonville, Florida. The company that was to buy them went bankrupt and they sat for almost 10 years in Green Cove Springs. They were finally sold at a loss to the tax payer for 10 cents on the dollar.
Let's see, isn't he from the state that won't make public Obama's BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!! Isn't this senator from the same state that Obama says he was BORN in?? He didn't have to go through all the hoops like other senators / governors........uhmmmm.
Sen. Daniel K. Inouye Democrap (Hawaii) is in good company...Barney Frank Democrap (Massachusetts) did the same thing to save a bank in his district in Massachusetts!!!! Our Liberal News media would rather cover how rosey Obama's behind is instead of digging deeper on how shady these people are!!!!!!!!
Only if it's in the personal interest of the politician.
I know the man and he plays the game well.
My my, another long term partisan hack is using public money to further their own interest. I think we should give them more power over our lives they are so trustworthy. A fool from one party is caught buggering a reporter from South America and another fool is caught using our money to prop up his fortune, anybody know the definition of hypocrisy? It seems to me its bipartisan and rampant. I am betting the defenders are already working on a plan to redirect the analysis to another titillating story. it seems to me one guy was buggering a reporter and the other guy is buggering the nation. Should we consider voting all these fools out of office? Why would we the change is so entertaining. I don't think a few trips for the horizontal hula will total up to the millions this guy took.
American's are just too cynical. His people weren't trying to "influence" anything; they were just curious. Just like when politicians receive millions of dollars from lobbyists: They always say that lobbyist contributions never influence them at all. Can you imagine how stupid all those lobbyists are to give millions of dollars and receive nothing in return. Why they all ought to be fired!
I'm a Democrat and left of center politically but this BS has got to stop. This bank doesn't meet the criteria for help and my party had better get this sh_— corrected. Right is right, and I don't care which party is involved in this kind of chicanery. There are crooked Republicans and Democrats but this takes a Federal Agency to go along with the corruption. Clean house Mr. President.
Another glaring example of a typical scum bag democrat.
John,
HOW can you said this is liberal media bias when the MEDIA is the one reporting this guy's rotten behavior and making it known? How is that biased? As one who works in the media, I get so tired of that worn-out excuse. His behavior was bad. But I don't get how that's the media's fault?
Unfortunately the president is a product of the most corrupt political atmosphere in the nation, on the numerous occasions where he could have backed reform candidates in his own party or back the machine and enhanced his future he chose the machine. If you objectively look at the people he has surrounded himself with they are long time political operatives, very connected and hyper partisan. He may be a sincere guy but he is also connected and that will not allow him to clean up anything. It will ultimately be business as usual. If you truly want to clean house vote all the professional politicians out, including the president.
Here's one for you Michele!! Now that the media has 'reported' it, what happens next? Do you stay on the story? Do you delve deeper for other 'projects' that line pockets or are you going on to report whether Jon & Kate + 8 blew their nose or whether Britney is actually singing on her tours.
If the media needs to be patted on the back for FINALLY reporting and investigating, than here is your official pat on the back. Now go out there and do it again rather than 1/2 hearted efforts or reporting just part of a story. If the media wants credit, go after these guys and keep up the attack until something is done.
It seems that the people of this country are lacking decent, honest representation but in order to get elected one must have money (lots of it), some sort of legal background (so you know how to break the law without anyone noticing) and maybe a catchy name. This eliminates the very people that this small fraction will represent! Is it possible for a Citizens Group to design a website with links for the states where a smart, ambitious, honest person can declare their candidacy for whatever position is available in their state and actually discuss issues? Where money is not the focus of the campaign and ads are not needed? Just real facts on a person. Am I dreaming? Someone wake me up!
Yup, I agree Carlos. Here's a tip on how we can all get rich: find out what businesses The President and the most powerful Senators and Congressmen have invested in, and invest heavily in those businesses, because they will see to it that the money they are taking from us in the form of the bank bailout and the stimulus package will flow toward those companies. That's how it works in America now. I tell ya, if this was the 1700's and this crap happened, we'd be having a guillotine party and Bastille Day of our own, but we just sit back like sheep and let them fleece us.
Wow the media reports on possible corruption of a Democrat. Now that's good news!
D'ah - you think this is the only politician doing this. Come on folks the whole deal about passing the bail out was for these guys to buy their constituents and special interests...it has nothing to do with you or me.
Gred G notice the word Democrat doesn't show up till, ah, it doesn't. If it were a Republican the party would have been the headline.
You get who you vote for. If you don't vote stop complaining.
Fred-2562889
Eventually, a tipping point will be reached. We are so, so close to it now and speeding toward it faster each minute. I am just waiting for the first state to decide that being part of this decaying Republic is no longer in the best interest of the state and its people and bolts. I will move there the next day.
Amen, my brother.
where are all the dems today? thought for sure there'd be one blaming bush for this.
and as mentioned above, the media will bury this in short order, and if you blinked, you'd never know this guy's a dem, had he been a rep it would have been in the headline and mentioned several times throughout.
For you liberals let me point out some differences in this ariticle. If the senator had been a Republican the very first word(s) in the article would have been "conservative Republican." But, since he is a liberal democrat you have to read four paragraphs down before it mentions he is a democrat.
Like the qoute from Inouye's office "he wasn't trying to influence the FDIC when he had an aide call" MY ASS! that exactly why his aide called!
Scarab-I believe the term is irreconcilable differences. There needs to be a cleaning of all the halls in DC. 2010.
"Central Pacific has 15% of the states deposits"...What's that, about $2.500?...
PGCL,
They keep being re-elected because they are buying votes with out tax money. Why not vote for someone who keeps giving you money not to work and have babies or be a sperm donors for babies?
Way to pad your own pocket, and give it to the American people one more time.
I simply can't believe that politicians would use a part of the huge amount of money they vote on almost daily to feather their own nest. Simply not credible
I wish.
I just got a tip in which hot stock to buy. Guarenteed you will make money. Buy all the stock in "Vaseline." We are going to need all we can get with the way the government keeps sticking it to us taxpayers.
KeithM: "Peanuts, all of it! Only 6% of the stimulus money has been spent to date, with the remainder scheduled for 2010. As much of the 600,000,000,000 remaining as necessary will be used as the largest campaign slush fund in history to buy 2010 congressional seats."
Excellent observation Keith, it seems like congress has finally realized that a whole lot of Americans are fed up with the bull@!$%#. The economy is still tanking and they're doing very little about it other than trying to cover their butts with next years elections coming up. You can't stimulate the economy by sitting on the money and waiting until next years voting is over. So far this stimulus has been the biggest joke in the history of our country. The only ones who have been stimulated is wall street and the banking industry. Meanwhile, back in reality homes are being repossesed in record numbers, jobs are dissappearing faster than you can blink and we're facing an energy bill that's going to cost us our ability to survive. Time to clean house in congress in 2010. We have to get these self serving parasites out of our capital.
And the slime balls continue to ooze out of this administration...
I'm a conservative and a republican but am not blinded by that fact. Most if not all of these senators and congressman regardless of party affiliation or political view are career crooks/politicians. The best thing we can do is vote all of them out in 2010 and 2012 and send a message that the American people aren't going to stand for this anymore. Next thing is to set term limits for these parasites.
I too find it interesting that the political party of Inouye was not mentioned until the 4th or 5th paragraph, and I am surprized they have not found a way to blame it on Bush or Limbaugh. Had it been a republican it would have been in the headlines as was mentioned earlier.
But speaking of peanuts, the majority of the stimulus package is not to go into effect until 2010 or later so "happy days will be here again" and the easily duped public will be fooled into voting our Teleprompter in Chief another 4 years in Slothington. By then the number of people who are receiving Federal Aid will exceed 50% of the population and there will not be enough people who actually want to work to make a difference.
Can you say, "Who is John Gault?" I urge you all to read the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand to see the scary vision of the author...it seems to be coming at a rapid pace, and in part is already come true. It is one of the best books ever and was written in the 1950's!
I wonder if anyone has thought of this before. Great post! Let's vote everyone out. You have to think their replacements will be better, right?
We continued to get screwed by our government.. Newsflash!!! Let's allow them to have more power, own more of us!
All of us need to wake up and start fighting back. Blogging on Newsvine is not going to change anything.
I assure you there are many more scenarios like this one that we are not aware of!
Power corrupts absolutely. Inouye has easy access to the White House for two critical reasons. Like the President, he's an extreme leftist and one of the most powerful individuals from one of Obammy's two home states, both of which are among the most corrupt in the country. Inouye and his ilk are why federal term limits are necessary. He should be removed from office immediately.
Special interests? Whatthehellisnewaboutthis?
George Washington himself, the father of our wonderful country had interests in land holdings surrounding what is now Washington DC, which is even named for him. He steered the location of today's national capital.
Lincoln, the social climber of all-time, talked about as much BS as anyone in history, yet "allowed" the Civil War to take place, in part to advance the social standing of himself and his family.
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah.........
Don't forget to add Cheney, Bush, Clinton, Carter, Nixon, Kennedy, LBJ, Ford, Roosevelt (!!!!!!!!-Good Lord, he and others "invented" the friggin New Deal).....
An endless list of so-called crooks.
All I know is if you kicked all the current ones out who have been there Like Kennedy(been there since 1964) the special intrestes would not have their hands so deep. All of these politicans are lining their pockets at our expense. Everyone here says they want change but you keep electing the same fools over and over again all though I think the politician is not a fool but it is the voter who is.
I know that Most did not want to bail out the auto makers but look who ended up with the win win it was not the workers or the investors it was the UNION. Just another one being sweeped under the carpet by media because it benefits the Dems. I am from Michigan. I never saw any of the Dems like Senator Levin or any others approach any company of manufacturing jobs to stop taking them out of this country. But as long as the union was lining their pockets with "contributions" that is all any of these politicans think about. BTW Independent voter.
No. I like "impartial's" solution. Let's vote everyone out of elected office. I'm starting with the local school board and Sherriff! Do it "in 2010 and 2012" to send a message. The beauty of his plan is that will probably leave us exactly where we are now in the House. HA! newsvine posts you never lose your hilarity.
If anyone can honestly tell me they wouldn't use a person in power, of which they have ties, to help them, it's beyond me to understand those that think that way. This guy had plently ofm influence and why not. He is heavily invested in the bank. if they fail, he fails. It's simple math and thinking.
These people should and must be removed from office immediately!
We can't wait for 2 years or 4 years. These 'power mongers' will have everything in place and will control everything in this country by the time the next election rolls around. Besides, look at MN and decide for yourself if 'elections' do any good.
Obama must be removed! He has consistently failed to show that he is an American Citizen. If you of us (regular people) had committed this kind of fraud - we'd be in the deepest, darkest dungeon that the alphabet soup boys have. Obama has lied about everything. What promises has he kept? Now, he wants to tax your health care benefit that is part of you employment benefits package. He promised he would never do this. He is a liar, a fraud, and a Usurper! He puts on a good show .... as long as the tele-prompter is working.
He must be removed - challenge you senators and congressmen to demand proof of Obama's eligibility. Demand that all senators and congressmen involved in unethical, illegal, unlawful, and immoral behavior be removed immediately. The dude from South Carolina is in the whirlwind because of a girlfriend .... So What! That only involves him, the girlfriend, and the wife (and kids). This banking nonsense, and the lack of a birth certificate has an effect on everyone of WE THE PEOPLE.
Those powers not specifically granted to the federal government are reserved to the States and We The People. Period.
Demand and Reclaim your sovereignty and that of your State. Remember it is These United States!!!!!
"Smell" is too polite a term for this.
Of course, it smells of special interests. If you want this type of foolishness to stop, get on the phone, get on your computer and contact your Congressmen and Senators.
I am FED UP with this kind of stuff. We know that there is a lot of corruption in Congress, but we dont do anyting about it. Why is that? The people of this country need to stop whining, stop finger-pointing (because no party is better than the other), and start working to turn this crap around. DO NOT get caught up in the arguing back and forth along party lines.
When, when, when are we going to reign Congress in? They are milking us DRY and have been for decades! Again, I repeat, DO NOT get caught up in the finger-pointing... because if you do, the people you replace them with WILL DO THE SAME THING.
Grow up, roll up your sleeves and get to work. We can stop it. Above all, don't believe a darn thing they say. We should be (and are) angry with BOTH parties.
It's up to us... NOT CONGRESS. We can stop it, or just keep taking it up the ying-yang (with no vaseline). I'm tired of making other people rich. I don't need anyone to speak for me, I don't need anyone telling me what to think, I can do that myself. You will not see any changes in Congress or anywhere else, unless we start to do that.
This is ridiculous.
If according to the Senate, this does not infringe on ANY rules, then why is this even a story???
Maybe it doesn't break any rules, but it's certainly unethical.
Congress.org... get busy, people.
This doesn't stink and it doesn't matter. Because Democrats don't question their own. They also don't eat their own. So this will die the inevitable death of all scandals by these crooks. At least the Repubs find ways to get rid of the bad seeds, to the parties detriment. For all of the Dems that will come back and say there you Repubs crying foul, at least we don't discriminate where the stench comes from.
Dems ...take your bad seeds to the woodshed or the gallows every once in a while so that it doesn't appear that you are so power hungry you would sleep with any devil that furthers your causes.
RECALL THEM ALL!!!
Absolutely correct kat-1015719, we are no longer represented in congress. The special interests and the Fed pretty much run the show, even though they claim otherwise. Lobbying should not be allowed...period. We're all supposed to get our one vote and access to our representatives but those with special interests have lobbyists putting the pressure on our (they're) representatives no matter what effects it has on American citizens. Their past record, especially over the past few years, has certainly made this obvious. For all the bailouts that have occurred nothing is improving for us Americans. Our founding fathers weren't nearly as patient as we've been and we have nothing to show for our patience other than loosing......our jobs, our homes and our health. If we the people don't put a stop to this with the next election we are doomed to third world status.
If we really want change... we have to work for it. Nothing worth having comes easy. These people are taking advantage of Americans because they know that all most of us will do is cry and whine and just vote in another Fox to watch the Chickens. Their WORST nightmare is for American citizens to REALLY get involved in their politics. It's a shame, a total shame, that we have let Congress get away with so much for SO LONG.
The people on this Board blaming one party or the other ARE the problem. Blaming each other. Why? It's not we, who are stealing from you... it's the people you voted for in CONGRESS!
Guess what, Dorothy, we're NOT in Oz anymore... as a matter of fact, WE NEVER WERE. It's still the same old Kansas, and we, the American people, are being taken for a ride.
Congress.org
I believe that Obama campaigned on Change...This change and put Term limits on Congress.
Term limits on Congress!!!!
Who votes on this-Congress!!! Unlikely.
Do you reckon. How about a "COMPLETE" investigation. Are any of our politicians honest. This country is getting pitiful, and we are getting HAD.
Ahhh does smell like crooks or special interest.. but like all good things, the Senate under Democratic rules, says.. nope business as ususal we the tax payers will continue to bail out anyone or anything they like..
Who cares with Senator Ensign and Gov Sanford using our money to have affairs we will be bailing out their personal finances.
John, add Pelosi, Feinstein, Hillary, now Franken to your list.
How in the hell did and do they keep getting elected? Are there really enough idiots out there voting for these people? That's the scary thought. It tells me that the leeches living off the government tit now outnumber the people who are working to support them.
GREAT point skiddy. I've been saying all along that even if the Repubs get back to fiscal conservatism it may not matter because the majority of the electorate will soon be made up of people who pay no taxes. That's how scoundrels like Rangel, Waters, Feinstein, Dodd, Frank, etc keep getting elected. As long as you keep the people dependent on government the leeches will keep electing you.
Skiddy,
That's why I've been pointing out for years, that we needed a Constitutional Ammendment to ensure that those who don't pay income taxes, have NO right to vote. I'm afraid it's too late now, unless we convince the states to exercise their power under the Constitution and convene a Constitutional Convention and make necessary changes (ammendments) including term limits for Congress. As long as 3/4's of the states agree to the changes, it's the law of the land, and there is nothing that the Congress or President can do to stop it. If they attempt to interfere, they would be committing treason !
Gordon, they would make sure that doesn't happen!! I did my son's taxes for him last year for the first time, and had to explain to him how his Aunt and Uncle(who doesn't work) and 5 kids get back more on their Federal Taxes than they pay in during the year. He wanted to know how you get back more than you pay in?? I had to explain only in America do we reward the nonproductive. He asked me why should he work to get ahead, when he could sit on his butt and have a higher standard of living than if he works. I can't explain it to him. That's what we have come to.
We are so screwed.
I'm beginning to welcome the idea that the year 2012 will be the beginning of the end.
Cynics will soon be seen as seers/prognosticators.
You're only cynical if you're wrong.
Both sides are so outrageously corrupt, the real irony is the followers who believe the crap these scoundrels spew, nothing will change as long as we reelect these vermin to office, no matter which party they represent. As long we defend one side and attack the other we are condoning the corruption and demonstrating our hypocrisy.
We spent millions investigating Clinton. Lets give a little to Ensign and Sanford. Maybe FINALLY a Repub will resign like most Dems do.
pddoc-
Democrats resign? Really?! Are you serious?!! You actually believe that?! Please tell me you are being sarcastic.
Yeah, that oughtta fix the problem doc.
"Can't see the forest for the trees"?
Robin and John....as I was reading these post I also noticed something.....where are all the libs that have been slamming the GOP about how crooked the GOP is.....LMAO!!!!....oh it is the first of the month.....do get their free handouts on the first of the month??....or cashing them from yesterday's free handout....
scarab333
That is right no Repub will resign. Ensign and Sanford are too fine examples. By the way the handouts have been going to the right!
John-385319
You are a disappearing breed. Finally!
Pddoc, I have worked in a grocery store(food stamps) and a drug store(free meds). 99 % of the people I dealt with sure as hell were not right wing conservatives!!! They were all Democrats. I don't know where you get your info.
But ya see pddoc...This isn't about a Republican..This is about a Democrat...
Spin my little monkey SPIN!!
Reading some of these blogs do you actually believe these issues are only related to Democrats?? For real? Both parties are to blame. Until both sides recognize this nothing will change. They are both corrupt.
Had the republicans stuck to their core principals and not try to shove morals, religion, abortion, gay opposition down our throat we wouldn't be in this situation.
Every election is the same thing. If the dems win then everyone talks about the next election to vote republican and vice versa. Nothing changes. They are so busy fighting each other nothing good comes out of it. We the people continue to get screwed by both sides!
pddoc, that's the best the dnc can come up with? where are the other interns who live on these sites?
I don't think it matters which parasitic party is feeding off of the American public, both have to go. Either one is as bad as the other and both represent corporate america which feeds us new political candidates. Beware of who we vote for in 2010, check their money trails, their political agendas and their criminal records.
The stupidity on the Board is amazing. What did my son lose half of his body for? He's a Democrat and lost the use of half of his body fighting in this stupid war. He's a bum? He's a crook? How about my other son in Afhgan, he's a cook, too? He's Democrat. He's stealing your money? Basking in the glorious beauty of Afghan.
This is exactly what I'm talking about, and this is exactly why things will not change, no matter who you put in office. You people are content to come to a blog and sling insults at each other, and for what? If you put as much effort into holding your representatives accountable, things would HAVE to change.
But, no... you want to come to a political blog and insult each other (people who work hard and pay their taxes) because it's easier.
When my other son gets home, and he will get home, we're done. I spent 20 years of my life married to a military man... living paychek to paycheck because the pay is so little, and that was during Reagan. I was even eligible for food stamps while my ex was off fighting in the Gulf War, and that was under the first Bush. That's how small the pay is for our troops and their families. Where's the outrage over that? Then Clinton came along, and things were not much better. I don't have enough time to tell you how my first son suffered during his first few months of the Iraq war, and that was under the second Bush. NEITHER party gives a hoot about Americans and some of us are too stupid to see it.
This is exactly what they (Congress) wants. Keep fighting each other while they steal us blind. No wonder things are so bad. We don't want real change.
But, if you do.... Congress.org, and get busy. If those bastards think they're going to lose their jobs, they'll cut each other's throats to clean up this mess.
No, actually we're here watching you morons get all slathered up with your conspiracy theories about how this is somehow Obama's fault. Let me be the first DEM to say that what Inouye was inappropriate if not downright illegal. If it was illegal I'll be the first to say he should be removed from office and prosecuted. BTW, have you been an idiot your entire life, or just since losing the election last year?
Hey TAW57.......nice....name calling....typical liberal response.....oh, and you forgot to blame Bush....or was you in a hurry to get your free handouts????
It's become painfully obvious, (for the libs) that Obama and his wacky policies are slowly destroying the democratic party and the country.
If I know Obama, he'll simply pick up the pace!
If you simply use this LIBERALLY BIASED forum as a barometer, you'll see that the anti-Obama posts far outweigh the pro-Obama posts.
Quite a turn around in just a few LOOOOONG months!
If that proves anything, I suppose it proves that anti-Obama posters waste far more time on boards like this than pro-Obama posters.
Or do you think you're actually accomplishing anything by all your posting?
There is a real word beyond the computer keyboard, in which action is key.
And now I'm done posting....
Ah yes lets investigate an idiot that has admitted to his affair. Granted he should immediately resign . Remember when Bill Clinton lied under oath? Remember when bill Clinton on national television declared "I did not have sex with that woman"...remember when he lied to all of America?
Tell me PDDC when did Sanford lie? He admitted his transgression. What crimes did he committ? Has he been charged with embezlement? Was Bill Clinton impeached for false statements and his lies?
Seems to me as weak as Sanford is he had more balls than Clinton did to admit his getting a hummer.
Then again that is how the left operates. Never take responsibitlity and point out who else did it. Except for taxes, since the left only raises them and never pays them. Once the left committs a crime they can only compare it to what a Rep did. The ultimate jypocrisy.
Well sherri
That certainly wasn't the case two years ago, and all the way up to last month.
You can act stupid if you'd like, but we ALL know why the libs aren't as prevelant on these sites anymore.
I think I'll look up ol' sherri's previous posts and print them here.
Please stand by.....
Newcomer I guess?
At least we don't have to worry about sherri trying to defend the indefensible anymore!
Ya know......since she's "done posting".
Guess the call was worth the quarter. Yet another elected official looking out for number one rather than the people he is supposed to be serving. Vote him out!!!
Vote him out? He has been a senator for 46 years. Only God can vote out the third ranking Democrat in the Senate.
This will only be the second time he'll get a slap on the wrists, and a don't do that again you bad boy!. Earlier in his career, he or his staff was slapped over some other affair. It was either contract fixing or a relationship misdeed.
Isn't that the truth. These *ssholes gerrymander their districts, get the dead and illegals to vote for them(multiple times), and insulate themselves in so many ways as to insure they cannot be voted out by the electorate. So here's hoping for a rash of massive coronaries, cerebral hemorrages, fatal car wrecks, deadly infections, etc etc to do the job for us.
Hopefully you're a trend setter and a coronary, cerebral hemmorage, fatal car wreck, deadly infection will start with you.
TAW....thought you libs were full of love.....you sound like you have a lot of hate in you....what happen...food stamps get cancelled???
Folks, This Game Has Been Called Because Of Rain. I am afraid it is just plain too late. Now, let's put the blame where it belongs. How about on US, we the people, we have totally dropped the ball due to greed, apathy, and a lacadasical attitudes. BLAME=US.
135 million...i think i just threw up
I know I didn't even read the whole article and I have a stomach ache
Amazing, he wasnt trying to influence the outcome and a few days later, magicically the bank gets the money, no conflict of interest because the Senate decides what a conflict of interest is according to their own rules. Now if a corporate guy had done that, uh ,oh
Yeah.... must be nice to make up the rules you have to follow yourself. Funny how OUR rules are significantly stricter isn't it? If Alan Greenspan had done that with a bank he only had 3 shares in, he'd have ben drawn and quartered by Congress.
Can you spell ---- H*Y*P*O*C*R*I*S*Y ---- ??? Evidently the Senate cannot!!!
Hey, the banking bill that was passed about 5 years ago gave the bankers the ability to do anything they want and look at the results. We have a congress that doesn't even read the bills they come up with and vote on. I'm beginning to wish that getting into another country was as easy as it is here in the U.S. but it's not. They have standards and their citizens come first as opposed to our country where we American citizens are nothing more than a pool of suckers to be had by our supposed representatives. Enough is enough!
They don't want to hear that maddog because it means they would have actually have to do something. I'm beginning to believe that some of these people are actually being paid to stir up a frenzy instead of actually wanting to do something about Congress. As long as we're fighting each other, no one is watching the baby.
Think about it.
"Even if Inouye were directly involved, it would not violate the rules the Senate sets for itself, experts said."
The Senate's rules obviously need to be revised upward...way upward.
"Both the FDIC and the Treasury said the decision was not affected by the involvement of Inouye's office."
Yeah, right! And, everybody does it. But, that's the point...nobody should be allowed to do it.
While regulation and legislation for Wall Street are being revised, the same needs to be done for Congress and the Administration. "Physician, heal thyself!"
Meanwhile, as I am not a Senator, my retirement wealth "mutual funds" in Fidelity Investment's hands have shriveled to nothing again, for the second time in less than 10 years.
Before I started an investment bank in Australia, I was a lowly stockbroker in the U.K. for an American firm. I and my partner had over the years, thousands of wealthy clients. We liked to be honest with our clients, who respected that, and we told them if they didnt get hit by the uptown bus they would eventually get hit by the downtown bus. Morale, there is no such thing as a long term investment in the stock market which I think you would now agree with. When giving lectures to banks, brokers I gave people the definition of a long term investment, its a stock you are losing on:) If you are bullish on a market for one reason or the other, dont bother with mutual fund managers, its a rare day they ever even match the index. If your bullish buy a no load index fund. Just a thought from an old fart:)
As a Democrat, I am irked at this special treatment. I don't care what party you belong to, when a politician uses his or her office for personal gain in the private sector, in my opinion, you should be tossed out of office. Till now, I have respected Sen. Inouye, but no longer.
Needless to say, banks would not be in this crappy shape if Republicans had not dismantled the protections set up in the mid 1930s, but greed knows no political affiliation. There is plenty of blame for both parties, and the blatant flaunting of thier official power as well as ignorance in thinking they won't get caught is always amazin to me.
Since I dont have party affiliations, never have lets be fair to the Democrats role in the dismantling of regulations. It was on Clinton's watch that the Glass Steagall Act was repealed. Also deregulation is only half the problem. With the proliferation of hedge funds, private equity funds, these entities were never regulated in the first place. There was no dismantling. In addition many products, not available in the 30's such as securitazation of mortgages, CDOs etc also contributed to the meltdown. It would also be fair to say that neither party really understood all of this and could see it coming. And if they did see it coming what politician or party would want to step in front of a freight train warning that housing would collapse in the near future, It would be like yelling fire in a crowded theatre.
President Bush and John McCain repeatedly warned of the housing problems. No one paid any heed.
Smoken Mirrors...Don't think your Democraps are so in innocent...Your Democraps had control of both house's over 85 % of the time the last century...So your theory of blame others won't hold water... Democraps Clinton, Frank, Dodd are the biggest reason for the latest mortage melt down...It's seems like all three of them conveniently lost their voices when it came to regulating Fanny & Freddy...A Big Democrap Liberal Welfare give away...Just read the following from Clinton:
Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.
''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''
Bill Clinton: Well, maybe everybody does that a little bit. I think the responsibility the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
A democrat. Imagine that. It must somehow be Bush's fault
Everybody in Washington is crooked. This isn't even news.
The first "job" of a politician is to get elected, or so I heard. The second "job" is to get re-elected.
And how does a politician get elected or re-elected...money, lot's of money.
Who can they count on for money...people they do favors for.
"Money...the mother's milk of politics." - Jesse Unruh
On Wall Street ... Insider Trading is against the Law, You Go To Prison ... HOWEVER
Members of the House & Senate in one form or another take advantage of their position to perform and benefit from acts that when its all said and done are nothing but Insider Trading.
They Do this all the time and & no one puts a stop to it ... the benefits that people in the Government Recieve / Give themselves would make you Ill if you knew them all
I heartily agree with chas-1035742. It has gotten to the point of absolutely ludicrous how crooked our political system has gotten. And I mean 'all political parties'! When we, the American people, get enough backbone we'll vote the whole lot of them out and rewrite the rules they have obviously written in their own best interest.
Thes are our tax dollars they are 'stealing' and like any thief, they should go to jail. And like any other thief, the more you steal the harsher the punishment should be. Stealing millions of dollars in grand larceny (a felony), which should also make them ineligible to run for public office. Oh, but wait, they have rewritten the laws to allow themselves a back door back into politics, or they just run for another office.
And we keep voting them in! I would laugh out loud if I weren't crying from the mess these imbeciles have put us in. And now being one of the 6 million or so unemployed Americans, I get to see how far I can stretch the measly Unemployment Insurance until it runs out. I wonder how much unemployment an ex-Congressman makes. Oh, wait they have a life long pension of some gazillion dollars a year for the rest of their life.
I say we all run for public office, vote for each other, get elected and then we can all steal from each other. Oh, wait they already do that. I would ask Mr. Obama if he could change any of this, but we already know how much good his word is (and yes, I voted for him).
Maybe we should get Mr. Madoff to write a book giving us some of his secrets, which he probably learned from our politicians to begin with. Oh what a sad state of affairs we are in. God help us, if you are even willing!
FYI: The two Democratic Senators from Hawaii have a combined total 82 years as Representatives of the Hawaian People.
Daniel Inouye has been in office since 1959! First in the House from 1959 to 1963, then in 1963 he was voted in to the Senate. Total-50 years and counting!
Daniel Akaka has been in office since 1977! First in the House, 1977 to 1990, then he was voted in to the Senate in 1990. Total - 32 years and counting!
TERM LIMITS is the only way to prevent these guys from building so much power.
Contact the office of the Secretary of State in your State and request a copy of the Initiative and Referendum Handbook. Find out how to start a petition then get busy. It's the only way.
When the US goverment defaults and goes insolvent you can thank career politians like this.
These guys make so little, they should be able to get this kind of perk and favoritism. For those who seriously think that these people get into politics to serve the people , a complete mental evaluation is in order.
Great liberal response. If the standards are too high... lower the standards!
Are you one of his staffers.... what a stupid remark...
I read it as sarcasm. But then I stopped being angry at these guys and have just started investing in canned goods and ammo. They will be valuable as trade goods when our economy collapses under the crushing debt these politicians are amassing.
I wonder what Mogadishu would look like set in upstate NY? Not too long before we find out at this rate.
Torches and Pitchforks, people!!!!!!!!!
Everytime I see Barney Franks name in print, I feel compelled to just bend over and take it like the rest of the country. We seriously need to vote these bums out of office. The sooner the better!
Vote them out and get what? Do you think the next guy that runs for election will be any different given the "requirements" of the job? Talk, promise, raise money, get elected, do favors, talk, promise, raise money, do favors, get re-elected ad infinitum.
Maybe some long prison terms could have an effect but short of that...I don't think changing horses will get us anywhere. Check out the scandalized history of Chris Dodd's dad.
Everytime I see Frank, Polosi and Dodd's picture come up it makes me want to vomit.
I am very anti-corruption, as are most who follow a story like this. In this particular case (and in some like it), I think more of the attention needs to be on the people at the Treasury. Also a Republican, for disclosure's sake.
Part of being an elected representative has to be to help constituents fight through the maze of bureaucracy. They need to, and should, make phone calls to see if applications are being held up for a particular reason.
In this specific case, I think more attention should be placed on the Treasury officials. Why did they approve this application if it did not meet the rules? Here, THEY are the ones who have the responsibility to resist outside influence, and when you get through the smoke, it does appear that the Senator made reasonable inquiries, and not impose undue pressure, at least on what was reported - more may have happened behind the scenes.
But the Treasury officials should be scrutinized as to whether or not they approved something they should not have. And they should resist pressure, and should have the support of their bosses when doing so.
Treasury officials are too busy protecting their OWN assets. Changing tax laws (which they did NOT have the authority to do), telling their friends first, making sure the banks where their money was got the first round of handouts. The list goes on.
Another crooked Demcorat How many this makes now, Like I said before get rid of all Dem. and Rep.
I agree, impose "tern limits"..Never re elct any of them...EVER!
This is why Washington is in the shape it is. All that we have there is a bunch of cheats and thieves. Term limits is a great idea.
John,
See post #2.8.
Randy who would you suggest who should be voted in? There isn't anyone that I have heard about. There is zero honest politicians for the most part. Can anyone find one that is true blue?
Centuries ago the scholars said the world is flat. Centuries later they said the world is round. All were wrong. "THE WORLD IS CROOKED.
Our founding fathers never intended that "politician" should be a career occupation
.
Too bad the people who lost their 401K money didn't have a Senator vested in the same plan. Business as usual...change you can believe in!!
Maybe I am naive, but isn't the bank in his home state? Isn't he their senator? Placing one phone call to inquire whether an application was received or not doesn't constitute foul play, even if his personal assets are in that bank. It seems to me that he did his job in placing that one phone call. However, if it turns out that they coerced the process, then this might be a story. However, from what was reported in this article, it seems nothing more than coincidence and sensationalism.
Yeah, right. Just pathetically naive GoGo.
A phone call from a senator means business no matter how it is later spun.
Gypsies, tramps and theives- our US senate, doing their usual criminal duties.
Coincidence that a bank that didn't qualify under the guidelines set forth in how the bailout money was to be distributed because it was too far gone, suddenly qualifies after a phone call from a powerful Senator? Funny. Yeah, some coincidence.
That is not what the article said. It said that the call was placed to see if the application had been received. There is nothing wrong with that question. The bank is in his home state and is their senator. Sometimes, it really is just as they say. If you have read any of my posts on various subjects, you would know that it is rare for me to defend actions of liberals.
I would be inclined to agree with you, but if I got a call from my boss 'asking' if i received a project request that she knew was under review, it would become a quickly approved project. That is most likely what happened here.
If it isn't, well too bad. These Senators have lost the benefit of the doubt, and just doing the right thing once is not going to make me trust them.
Trust but verify was all and good before your verifications showed they were lying 90% of the time. Now I disbelieve and verify. I find it more often that I am surprised when these men and women are telling the truth. That is sad.
These corrupt individuals once again are just getting bailed out again, while the rest of the working class is struggling........I bet this guy has not changed his lifestyle like the rest of the population.
Let's vote these bastards out of office!
As has been said hundreds if not thousands of times before..... With Demoncrats,,,,just follow the Money trail and the truth shall make you sick....
Another crook with his hands in the taxpayer's pockets. Who's bailing out the mom and pop businesses that are the backbone of this country? Remember this and other screw up when the 2010 elections come around.
I will remember.........vote against any incumbent, let's get back to picking candidates who will care about us!
Plutocracy is rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth.
In a plutocracy, the degree of economic inequality is high while the level of social mobility is low. We have created a political class that has no concern or care for the common man, but whose main objective is more power and wealth.
Isn't it nice how Congress changes the rules to best serve themselves, "Even if Inouye were directly involved, it would not violate the rules the Senate sets for itself, experts said" (Kiel, P. and Appelbaum, B. 2009). I use to respect Sen. Inouye now I see he is as corrupt as any politician of any party. I concur with those who feel we need to vote everyone out of office and start fresh. We may not get much of an improvement (if any), but we can let these politicians know we are not going to put up with politics as usual.
Respect Inouye???? your kidding? right? this is the KING OF PORK in the senate (well maybe second place behind Byrd of West Virginia, both dems by the way) this guy got interstate money for Hawaii. INTERSTATE HIGHWAY money for Hawaii?? they built a beautiful 4 lane highway to NOWHERE! This guy brings home the bacon to Hawaii, that's why he keeps getting re elected (people don't even bother to run against him any more)
At least 33 Senators own stock in banks. And now you know exactly why the "bailout" had to happen so fast. It's not hard to figure out who these people are working for, and it's not you and me.
Did they ever really serve their constituencies?
Does it ever end? Infidelities, earmarks for special interests, bailout money for personal gain. Seems the majority of politicians in this country are crooked souls. Will voters ever learn? And today we get a comedian in Minnesota...GEEZ!!!!!
Not really. You get a dork from Whoville, USA.
Franken just defines the utter lack of statesmanship, honesty and service to--
.............................WE, the PEOPLE...........................
Henri Poincare - A French mathematician and physicist one said, "To doubt everything or to believe everything are both equally convenient choices. They both dispense with the necessity of reflection and thought."
I think both you republicans and democrats need to pay heed to the wisdom contained in these words. For instance, while it is probably true that all politicians are dishonest, you Mr Midwesterner, need to spend some time to understand why the financial bailout was an absolute necessity. It was not done just so greedy politicians could get their hands on federal money, though i am sure some of them did. There is 760 billion dollars in the stimulus plan. While most likely a good percentage of it will end up going to pet projects or waste, a vast majority of it will end up where it was intended to go.
From what i have read on these forums, most of you seem to have preconceived notions about the other side and both sides are guilty of intellectual laziness in trying to understand the point of view of the other side.
I agree with the Midwesterner that the majority are crooked in some way. You seem to have a socialist agenda and fail to see the other side.
Vote all Incumbents out.
midwesterner-656324 : "And today we get a comedian in Minnesota...GEEZ!!!!!" Yeah, I'm positive he will be as good a politician as he was a comedian....not a lot of hope there. It's to bad he gives the democrates the majority.
MrIndia, The stimulus money that has been spent so far has gone to wealthy communities, not the areas that are seeing double digit unemployment.
The jobs being created are temporary. The stimulus was a feel good move that did not attack the core problem, there was too much debt for the system to continue.
We reached the end of our line of credit, and when that happened, the river of gold dried up for businesses and banks. There were no more loans to be had, because the people were loaned to the max.
Then the bankruptcies started to happen, and they still have years left to go, and the government taxes us to give that money to the corporations to keep them afloat. In essense, we the people ran out of credit and stopped spending so the government took out loans on our behalf and gave them to the corps. We didn't even get a trinket out of the deal, just a bigger bill at the end of each month as our taxes and cost of living continue to rise.
All the economists in the world cannot explain away the fact that we are out of money.
Bill - i am willing to believe you if you can provide me the source from which you learned that all the stimulus money spent so far has been spent in Wealthy communities only.
The jobs that were created are temporary - again, is this your feeling or is it backed by hard data ?
In any case, the hypothetical person employed in this temorary jobs who was out of job for 20 months and had stopped receiving unemployment benefits is very very thankful for this temoprary job. The goverment of united states is trying to feed as many of its hapless citizens for as long as it could while the world economic order is collapsing all around us. I know. You will say that the goverment is not in the business of feeding people. That this is socialism. Well you are right. But these are desperate times and they call for desperate measures. Temporary jobs or whatever - these jobs are putting food on the table of Americans (short term gain) and these jobs are building our infrastructure (long term gain). I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the these jobs lightly unless i am a hardcore republican and have been indoctrinated to see no good in whatever the democrats do. Sure there is going to be mismanagement even some blatant misapproproation of the money but look at the big picture.
