U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's temper flared on Monday when a Congolese university student asked her for her husband's thinking on an international financial matter.
Clinton: I'm secretary of state, not Bill
Seeded on Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:17 PM EDT (msnbc.com)

Perhaps she needs to let Bill know who the secretary of state is!
i'm sure bill did not mean to steal her limelight! the congo still is a male dominated area and hillary did a damn good job of standing up forherself! on the other hand if she wasn't a former "first lady" the student would never have asked such a question and may never have known if hillary was ever married or not!
gender bias...males forget that it is women that choose to allow the boys to be born. without us what would you be? i could insert a few more lines but it would just be crude (funny though)...
"Forget the past and move on." Wow, that's a novel concept for the liberals. They always revert back to blaming Bush. Oh, that's only when it's them to forgive.
And sounds like she wasn't very nice to a foreign student or whatever who asked her a question. Maybe NK was right.
There goes those nasty republicans putting those phoney questioners into the town hall meetings.
I see who wears the pants in that family...er..or maybe I don't? All I can say is LMAO!
It is a bit funny- apparently the student claims he meant to say Obama but said Clinton. Not sure if there is not a Freudian slip there somehow.
And the pissy fit she threw- a bit like B Boxer when the General called her Madam and she tartly( no pun intended) stated she had worker hard for her Senator title.
Not really a political issue on one side or the other, just people with overly inflated sense of egos needing them stroked by anyone who happens to be around.
Bill better start taking care of his home work! I believe she is a bit pi...sed
The former President did a great job in securing the release of the hostages. Calling them prisoners or anything else is not accurate. They were hostages. It is very useful to have a former President that has some influence and talents to accomplish some things that may be difficult for a sitting administration to accomplish due to having to work through official channels. As Secretary of State, Secretary Clinton is, of course, as official a channel as you can get. My guess is it was a sincere question, since the Former President and the Secretary of State are married. It seems logical to wonder what the former President's thoughts might be on economic issues. I think if the question had been about foreign policy, and loosely she may have interpreted to be such, Secretary Clinton's response would have been very appropriate. I think she may have mildly over-reacted to the question. A simple "I don't know what his thoughts are on that", wouldn't have been a story. Even a silly one.
Hillary didn't overreact. When was the last time a male secretary of state with some prominently known wife was asked what his wife thought about a policy?
Man, I hope she runs for president again...
Anomalee, of course she wears the pants in that family...he's always got his down LOL!
If there is a God, then Secretary of State is the highest office this woman will ever hold.
Hell hath no fury, huh?
Her job is mainly traveling around and talking and she can't because of a fractured elbow? WTF? If I used that excuse I wouldn't have a job. Gubmint workers......
Hillary is in the Congo giving away billions of our tax dollars and bill is in bed with the former NK hostages getting his half of the deal for getting them released.
"Me love you long time bill"
She is just another adulterers abiding wife, with no morals, backbone or characater.......I could never respect her or her beliefs, and she surely does not represent mine.........
I just loved how upset she got.......[ smiling]..............she thought she wore the pants in the family.....
She did run the country for 8 years you know? Why the hell would we want her back?
I wonder what Bill thinks of her childish behavior? I can't wait until somebody asks her!!
Freud could write 10 books about Hillary and still not run out of material.
Think back to her 4:00 am campaign ads. Would you really want someone as testy and tempermental as Hillary in charge of the U.S. nuclear arsenal? I shudder. Obama just wants to disarm the country, Hillary would have used them!!!!! Which is worse?
Same old story.
If a man had said what Hillary said, he would have been admired for standing up for himself.
But since a woman said it, she has thrown "a hissy fit."
Hillary could very well be the strongest (and smartest) person in all of Washington DC.
I say, "Go Hillary!"
And please give that whole "adulter allower" a rest. As a Christian, maybe she thought that her vows before God and man on her wedding day were worth something. Maybe Hillary does believe in the sanctity of marriage!
For all of you that run around yapping about the sanctity of marriage, you sure do scream foul when someone actually, honestly, keeps their wedding vows.
oooh....touchy, touchy. You know she is feeling dissed just by her reaction. Me thinks thou protests too much.....
Come on, skeptic, you don't think that was overreacting?
Sure
glad I didn't support her for president! I think she, as usual, let her
emotions and moods and loose tongue take over. Whether the question was
derogatory to her feminism or not, in her position, she has a
reponsibility to maintain professionalism, poise, and composure under
fire. In my opinion, she showed a lack of self-control and diplomacy. I
think she's a loose cannon, a ticking time bomb ready to explode. I
feel very uneasy about her holding any position of political power. I
think to choose her for the position she currently holds was a big
mistake. With women like Hilary as an example of how women handle
themselves in political offices, no wonder some countries are still so
male dominating. She should have said," I'm afraid I didn't come
prepared to answer questions regarding my husbands thoughts and
opinions, but I am the secretary of state and I am happy to answer your
question with my thoughts about the subject." All with a smile. To bad
we don't have more women like Maria Shriver's mother in government. Now
there was a woman for president.
How marked a difference from Hillary compared to Condoleezza Rice.
Clinton quickly recovered her cool Monday and moved on to other subjects. Just before the question that set off her anger, another student had asked if the United States and the West felt a need to apologize to the people of Congo for colonialism and postcolonial interference.
That brought a pointed rebuttal as well.
"I cannot excuse the past and I will not try," she said. "We can either think about the past and be imprisoned by it or we can decide we're going to have a better future and work to make it."
I do hope these words and sentiments will follow Mrs. Clinton for many years. In one long sentence, she has eliminated the need for Historians, Investigators and Commissions whose purpose is to look back-wards and investigate things that have already happened.
One has to consider whether these are her true views on such past topics as Guantanamo (not Bill's Guantanamo from 1993, when Dominicans were plucked off the high-seas by the Coast Guard, not charged with any crime, and deposited there) but more recent-past Guantanamo activities, and previous CIA activities.
I believe that she has also been quoted as saying how we do not get do-overs in life....
Sen. Clinton went on to say that "you don't get do-overs in life" when referring to her Iraq war vote. She said that she has to take responsibility for it and learn from it and go forward. She repeated that she regrets "very much the way the President used the authority he was given." http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=2404905
Let's all recognize her as a forward looking lady!!
I'm suprised she didn't throw a lamp at the student like she did bill. Sec Service had to step in to keep him from getting a butt whoopin'.

Clinton's Guantanamo
Despite what all the sexist haters say, Hillary Clinton is a remarkable woman and should be our first female president. It's still extraordinarily difficult for powerful women to work through the rampant misoginy in this male-dominated country, but she continues to do so with dignity and a self-possession that all women would be wise to emulate. If you want to hate a political woman go after Sarah Palin -- but then Caribou Barbie is what sexist men want in a woman: dumb, a brood mare, and a beauty pageant winner. That's the Neanderthal pin-up girl.
thanks, Rae, I wondered how long it would take for us to be called sexist. the fact is she hissed at this student when a lighter approach might have worked better, but hey, I've never been under sniper fire, so what do I know being under pressure?
actually, I feel sorry for hillary. the action's in n korea, the middle east and pretty much everywhere she isn't. maybe obama's the sexist here, sending her off on lame junkets while he and bill do the heavy lifting.
rae- talk about a whiner. Palin has accomplished sooo much more on her on, not by being Todd's wife. Can Hilary say that? Name one thing she has EVER done on her own. Keep on convincing yourselves on how smart she is. If she were on trial for intelligence the evidence would find her not guilty.
maybe some hormone replacement therapy is in order.
Maybe she should have said that is great question but I never know what he is up to! By the way, I do recognize I would not be secretary of state if I was not Mrs Clinton ... Hissy fit for sure !
I have enjoyed Conan's clips from her International dancing tour.
Lessons from Africa....101
Go and identify needs, address needs with record-setting funding for AIDS ("W")
or
Display pent-up angst and dance; be abrasive with .......men who ask a question regarding what two men think
Curious Blond said: "On the other hand if she wasn't a former "first lady" the student would never have asked such a question and may never have known if hillary was ever married or not!"
Honestly, if she wasn't a "former first lady" she wouldn't be Sec of State! She would still be back in AR making coffee for the boys at Rose law firm.
CS- and hiding the records
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
Who is higher up?
If position is inherited then who is HC's daddy? Who is BC's daddy?
silly Africans........
here take this vaccine, and go play............
we are gonna dig up your gold for you
scarab333- where have you been? I haven't seen you post in a while. Maybe I've been on the wrong articles. Always appreciate your input!
When you think about it...it's ironic. Hillary got to play President during Bills 2 terms in office, now Bill is going to play Sec. of State while Hillary has the post.
Personally, I thought Hillary was going to just whip it out and say, "see, mine is bigger that Bill's !!"
Great move by President Obama to dispose of his biggest political threat within his own party. Haven't heard much about Hillary since she accepted the post...for someone with an eye on being the president in the future, she could kiss that one good bye.
She should have thrown one of her shoes at him.........................
Hillary just needs to grow up and stop acting like a spoiled child when she doesnt get the attention. Just how old is she anyways? 61? She acts like she is in elementary school. Remember how bitter and snippy she got when she learned she was behind Obama in the polls for president? In my opinion, she hasnt done anything notable yet to get the respect she is seeking. Respect is earned, just like everything else. It is not handed out. Grow up and shut up Hillary.
Boy.....She would have been a real peach as President of the United States....a wee bit "touchy" and a whole lot of "snippy". Obama should put her up a one of these "health care' town-hall meetings and we'd really see the fur fly !!!
Watching this administration is like watching another episode of "As My Stomach Turns"...
First off... for any one to say that someones shadow is bigger then Hillary's these days means they have not seen her silhouette... hers is just a bit WWIIDDEERR.... then it used to be... must be all of the scraps she eats off Bills table...
Second... the only reason they send Biden anywhere is to get him out of a Country that may have Microphone technology. He does not do well with those gadgets you know?
I have to agree with one of the comment's above... the author said "its fun to watch the Liberals when they start talking about Forgiveness"... I think he is right, they all seem to have a ton of that stuff when its being applied to one of the transgressions of a fellow Liberal/Progressive.... But let it never be said that any Liberal can be forgiven of disagreeing with "The Enlightened One"...
Why shouldn't China make a loan to the Congo?... hell, they would just be using American Dollars to do it... making our currency worth just a bit more than the paper its written on. But... not to worry... Bam Bam will apologize for us even HAVING a currency to destroy and all will be well...
Love to chat... but I just thought about Hillary again and I need to go spew oats...
Poor Hillary, it must be really tough standing in Bill's shadow. With all the great things he did as president and then the scandal, and then Bill taking front stage again with the release of those journalists. I hope she finds the strength she needs to persevere and make wise choices.
Wow...can you imagine what the tabloids would pay for the sound footage of when Bill came home for that first chat with Hillary...I am guessing it would go something like this;
I did not have political relations with that man......Kim Jong Il. I was there to discuss opening a new Hooters in North Korea, and possible dimantling a few of their missiles to use as stripper poles, and that's it. This whole thing with me negotiating the release of these two reporters never happened.
Poor little Hillary! She's a little OLD to be PMSing.....perhaps she is just a Cranky Pompous Old Wannabe! Get over yourself Hillary.....haven't you heard you must apologize to everyone when you represent our country instead if insulting people for asking questions.
"Mrs. Clinton assured the student not to worry about it."
What an arrogant fat bitch.
Good observation Derek, Hillary does look a little larger than she used to. That designer pantsuit is stretched pretty tight across her thighs and midriff. Kind of looks like a lavender sausage casing stuffed with meat no respectable male would ever want to eat.
Hillary will always be second fiddle...
"We" are the President... but I am the Sec of State... ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...
Sec of State is a token appointment as a political payback... she is fairly benign in the role... but then again, she was a mediocre Senator at best.
Let's remember Hillary's list of qualifications... Healthcare catastrophe that BOTH parties rejected (Barry's redeaux), Whitewater, travelgate, filegate, cattlegate, chinagate, ransacking Vince Foster's office, using the WH as a bed & breakfast for Dem supporters, etc. Wow, no wonder she hangs with this crowd...
Rae,
Are you serious? Do you REALLY want Hillary to have access to that little black suitcase with the nuke button in it?

The International Dancing Tour of our Secretary of State
A textbook case of Penis Envy.......
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! now that's funny.
I see a Saturday Night Live skit coming out of this. That is hilarious.
LMFAO!!!!!!!
Man Jay Leno would have a field day with this! lol.
Yeah, letterman sure won't touch it because of his dedicated reverence to the obumba administration!!
Well, you can see how the student would've been confused, given that her hubby negotiated the release of those two reporters in North Korea...
I mean, if Hillary couldn't pull it off, it's no wonder the student thought Bill was Secretary of State...
And obviously, Ms. Clinton can use a lesson in manners. Her response was beyond rude.
saturday night live doesnt attack liberals, only conservatives. you wont se any skit here
I've always wondered..... how many children does a woman have to have before a liberal claims the right to call her a "brood mare"??
And my second question would be do you also call women living in 'the projects' with many children, supporting them on welfare, "brood mares"? or just self-sufficient, conservative women, capable of supporting themselves, who disagree with the liberal agenda?
I'm sure glad we didn't elect that moody b!tch as our president....can you see her having one of those hissy fits being within arms reach of the red button....no thank you.
I didn't know there was such a strong Republican presence in the Congo...they must listen to alot of Rush over there...yah...that must be how it happened...sure.
Steve....
Dead On !!! I haven't see a hlaf-hour total of SNL in the past 10 years, but I'd bet they would nail Hillary's hissy fit to a tee.
I call them brood mares too. They pop out kids to get more money from tax-paying citizens. They need to be cut off from all government funds after a certain number years no matter how many more kids they decide to have.
Good for Hillary!! Don't worry, Bill knows who the Secretary of State is!! Some stupid men never change regarding the person that asked that question!! Education, Education.....why has every other country elevated a woman but not here in America!!
I am sorry, but if Palin and Hillary are what we are trying to elevate, I will pass. When we can find a woman who is not whiney and/or catty, that will be the right woman. Maybe a better way to put it would be one who can act like a man, but think like a woman!
Maybe a gay man!
Umm katec
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's temper flared on Monday when a Congolese university student asked her for her husband's thinking on an international financial matter.
The question was asked abroad not in the Untied States or were you speaking of men in general?
Every other country! Absolutes are signs of ignorance.
katec, you might want to do a little study on "every other country". There are numerous countries that will not allow girls to attend school. There are countries, still today, where a man may "shop around", while if a woman were to do so; her husband could legally kill her. Dead. And, last time I checked, women in our country could own property, are not required to wear veils in public, and can vote their own conscience.
Matt-402718,
you showed your ignorance making that absolute statement. LOL
The translator was at fault, it appears. All men are not stupid, subjugating women is taught behavior. The "olden" days when most women stayed at home while the men worked has stayed in the mainstream. Women were depicted as having coffee klatches, laying on the sofa eating bon bons, etc., i.e. The I Love Lucy show, Mary Tyler Moore, Leave it to Beaver, and all those 50s, 60s programs laid it on thick. Here's a very argumentative point, until christian religions recognize that women are equal, not the 'temptress,' are able to be persons in their own right, we'll always have this division. Hillary Clinton is doing what Condeleeza Rice was not allowed to do under Bush/Cheney, that is, establish better relations with countries. Isn’t it time to get in the 21st century and see that we are no longer the leaders of the world, that we are one of on this planet? Get with the program.
katec, you have burned a lot of bras, haven't you?
And that's why we are still the #1 super power in the world Katec.
Right, earthgirl, she is establishing better relations by being testy and smart a** with foreigners when they ask her a question. Yeah, show just how arrogant Americans are to the rest of the world, they already think so, this just proves it.
katec make sure to take the bra off before you burn it!
Not to worry Skiddy...Obama will apologize for her. AND, I don't blame Hillary for being insulted when someone asks her what her husband thinks of issues that are part of her job to address. OR when Obama sends his czars and VP to usurp her.
phew! that "every other country" remark sure was stupid. try a little education, ever heard of the middle east, se asia and many others?
earthgirl: I don't know where you learned your "christian religion", but in my christian church, men and women were totally equal: in church, in our home, in school, in town, in my university, in my marriage. There are only a few religions I can think of that diminish a woman's place in society, and those are NOT Christian. You really should be aware of what you are saying BEFORE you open your mouth.
There are many pretenders in this world, and religion is but one.
OOOPs Another woman in denial.
Suite Judy I agree with you!
Funny, the Liberated Sisterhood tried to use historical figures like Susan B. Anthony to further their cause. But when people got excited and read their Bios- the red faced Libs had to drop them and look for other "role models" that supported all kinds of wierd personal choices. Turns out Susan was not only pro-life, but a devout Religious person- a Christian! So was Clara Barton (nurse), and many many other historical women heros!
And the Libs made their list......but who ever heard of the people they had to go with? I never had......
"...why has every other country elevated a woman but not here in America?" I think the best answer to that is from a movie line from Jack Nicholson's character as a writer of romance novels when he was asked how he writes women so well and he replies " first I think of a man.....then I take away reason and accountability"
Well, Suite Judy, in the Southern Baptist Church I grew up in (and left as soon as I could), women were definitely not treated equally. No female deacons, only female teachers were allowed, they didn't like us to dance, and we were always supposed to wear long flowing skirts to show our feminism, and above all we were always told to 'obey our husbands because they were the head of household'. All of it was (and is) absolute bull@!$%#. And this was only 15 years ago, so it still pretty prevalent today.
And besides, if you look back in history, women have been consistently subjugated by men and the Christian church. Women are not defined by their husbands (or lack thereof) nor by how many children they do/don't choose to have. I am defined by my knowledge, experience and actions - not by a husband and children. I feel sorry for any woman who defines herself this way.
I would be annoyed with that question as well, so I can't blame her for getting "snippy".
She's the Secretary of State, leave "snippy" at home. There's no "snippy" in dignified.
All she had to say to appear intelligent and refined would have been:
"You'll have to ask him".
That's the standard answer for anyone asking a politician (or lawyer) about somebody elses opinions.
Bill is an ex-president of the United States. So asking his opinions is not out of line. Would she have snipped if the student had asked about Carter's opinions (or Bush's)? No, she wouldn't. She's only insecure about her husband (or herself as his wife).
Hillary is no different than the people standing up for themselves at the health care town hall meetings here.
Oh, wait...yes she is...she's just made a lot of enemies in another country by her crassness. Some secretary of state. These people in the White House administration now are completely unprofessional.
She handled this poorly. There's no room for that kind of "ouchiness" over a simple question in a country where gender roles are more traditional. Had she just graciously responded, "I can give you my opinion, and will allow others to speak for themselves,(or something like that), she could have redirected the conversation and this would have been a non-issue.
If you're in the position of a "negotiator", whether in business or politics, you never want to give away where your sensitive points are - she announced to the world that the weakness in her armor is resentment of being in the shadow of her husband. . . bad move.
rrobeson you hit the nail on the head! Best answer on the whole board!
What a phony couple, why don't you two get a divorce and find another line of work I'm sure you will find something you can do.
Because as a couple this pair rake in the $$$$. Hillary would NEVER have been a Senator if she would have divorced Slick Willie (besides, she was too busy running the country after her "healthcare reform" died). As a couple, they are raking in $$$$$$$$$$$ in donations to their "Foundation". What exactly this "foundation" does except put $$$ and political favors in their pockets is beyond me.
If she was a good Secretary of State, she would have been a bit more diplomatic about answering that question.
Can ya tell that I just can't stand either of these two-bit hussling snakes! We're paying her to fly all over the world, then Slick Willie comes in from Blunder Boy Al Gore to 'rescue' the wayward 'journalist'. Exactly whose in charge is a puzzle to anyone.
Annoyed - I'm with you 100 percent. I can't stand those two. Bill is a total scumbag and Hillary is one of the all time liars in this country. I'm so glad we got all this "change" in this new administration.
Unfortunately neither one of them is that old. I think were stuck with this crime duo for a long time yet.
And this attitude is why people would rather deal with Bill than Hillary. Lets face it, the only reason she has this job was to make her feel better about losing in the primaries.
The only reason she has this job is so Obama can keep her under his thumb and prevent her from campaigning for 2012. Obama will keep her from doing anything real important or newsworthy. Was it a coincidence that she was sent to Africa at the same time her hubby went to NK? The only thing she's really doing in Africa is dipping her toe in the waters. If anything comes out of this. Obama will be there.
Bingo^, Sad thing is, people actually want to see Hillary as President.
worst ! people wanted to see palin as vice president !!
Instead we got Joe the liar, someone who wanted to send an innocent man to prison, when his wife died in the car accident years ago. you should also check out the shenanigans that have gone on with his son's firm with 'good ole joe's' blessing, and help. got a nice smile tho' doesn't he??
At least Bill got something done (getting those two Journalists freed), i'm still trying to figure out if Hillary has done anything.
Let's see, Hillary tried Healthcare reform. We all know what happened with all the time & effort (cue flushing toilet). Then there was the paycheck as a Senator while Billy boy collected for their 'foundation'. Now she represents our country doing ???? I get your point.
Gee, I loudly wonder if some of the same people who are criticizing Hillary Clinton now are the same ones who sung her praises when she was running against Obama last year in the Dem primaries, then tried to create division among Dems just before the Dem's convention in Denver between the two? More conservative hypocrisy? More conservative hypocrisy.
The deal was done before ex-Pres Clinton went to NK to release the journalists. He did not do anything to bring about that deal; his going to pick them up was part of the deal.
Sagg, are you familiar with term, paranoia?
I can't believe all of these people that still think that Bill was responsible for freeing the journalists. They were freed by negotiations between the State Dept. and North Korean emissaries. That is the STATE DEPARTMENT. As in Hillary Clinton. Bill was just sent there to escort them back and smoke a cigar with his old buddy Kim.
Don't give Hillary credit for freeing anyone, no one is that desperate to buy that, well, maybe you!
Bravo, Jerry-352313. Perhaps you can explain your response, just for the record. After all, you conservatives are experts on the subject, from what I understand.
Deal made beforehand or not, Bill Clinton came back with the two, who gave him the credit. Gracious move or not, that is a fact. First, the conservative-inspired rumors of an apology being issued to the North Koreans fell flat on its face. Now, it's plausible denial by said conservatives. And the hypocrisy continues...
Of course this is bound to happen, since the only reason anyone even knows who she is, and the reason she is Secretary of State, and formerly a Senator is because she was Billy-Bob's wife, who then pardoned half the criminals in New York to broker her deal for the senate spot...But oh yeah, she got it all on her own merit...uh huh!
You see who the N. Koreans asked for. She may be the Secretary of State, but he still has that big title in front of his name. Plus, he takes a better picture.
It was an understandable confusion.
She's got the title and the private office, but she hasn't done diddly squat.
ha ha ha....outstanding. I wonder how you say "douche" in Congolese?
I think it's pronounced, "secretaryofstate".
You know how educated people have those initials signifying the level of their degree? In the Congo, they write: Hillary Clinton, PMS
How old is Hillary? PMS? squirrel, it doesn't last that long.
Linda- LOL! Okay...prob. MENopause.
I believe it's Me-No-Pause, I'm too busy.
I agree with what she meant, but it could have been said in a more decent way. Diplomacy is the key. Make friends not enemies. A little bit of humor may help too.
She does not understand she is "The Secretary of State".
A Diplomat!
She told them!
I think she must be a paid lobbyist trying to upset these town hall meetings. How dare she. ROTFL
That guy was set straight!
Is this supposed to make us feel better?
This administration is flat-out scary.
Scary? You should have been awake during the Bush/Cheney aera!
Bush/Cheney NEVER scared me. Well...Cheney did, but only when I heard he was a bad shot.
Every administration is scary. They hold a lot of power at home and abroad.
A secretary of state that can't hold her temper in a foreign country. Maybe the questioner didn't like her condescending attitude. Maybe she'll show her independence next by showing the sole of her shoe to the KING of Saudi Arabia instead of kissing his ring like her boss.
Yeah. Let's send this feminist to the Muslim countries. How about Iran for starters? Maybe we'll be one less commie when they put her in that nice, Iranian cell.
did obama kiss his ring? That's sick! Mayor Giuliani wouldn't even shake his hand! obama loves anyone who is of the Islamic persuasion because he's a flat out muslim!! DUH PEOPLE!!!!!
This is beyond hilarious! What a joke! Maybe Hillary should have asked them if they wanted to smoke his cigar! She knows nothing about world diplomacy. she only got the job because of the primary loss.
You mean the cigar that bill used on Monica?
eewwww!
Hey interlink...I think that cigar was a Corona, It WAS a Corona Corona, but he smoked half of it first!! LMFAO!!
She thought she was running the country when Bill was President and playing hide the cigar! What's the difference now? A little role reversal????????
She probably was running the country while Bill was Pres. maybe that's why she felt so much like Eleanor Roosevelt...she also ran the country, from time to time.
She got the job so Barack could shut her up and to keep her from running against him in 2012. If she works for the President, running against him or being critical of him in any way will get her on the unemployment line.
She will always be in her Husband's shadow and she needs to get used to it and move on.
er... nobody in the same party runs against an incumbent president.
Actually nothing prevents a party member from running against an incumbent in the primaries. In 1980 both Ted Kennedy and Jerry Brown campaigned against Jimmy Carter for the nomination. I mention Carter specifically because the more incompetent the incumbent is the more likely same party opposition will occur. I expect that by 2012 there will be dozens of Democrats chomping at the bit to replace Obama.
we all know who the secretary of state is Hillary, BUT........ seems as thou the north Koreans dealt with BILL not you
Look, if you think this is a male/female thing, you're a pinhead! Hey Hillary! I've got news for you! If the people of the world had any confidence in your opinion whatsoever, you would never have gotten that question in the first place. Who are you? What are you there for? This administration has sidelined you for a reason.... They're going in the wrong direction and the world knows it. People are looking for advice from LEADERS, not the party faithful. Find your voice, make a difference on your own or get used to more questions like that one!
Mike:
The article said it was a bad translation and all was well post session. The administration has not "sidelined" Hillary. The administration doesn't seem to be going in the wrong direction...seems the economy is SLOWLY breathing again. I suggest that many particularly the conservatives are afraid of change.
It's not a male/female thing it's a respect thing look at Rice she didn't have this problem, that's because she had the worlds respect! Respect is earned not allocated, neither Hillery or Obama has the worlds respect, and it shows!
while in Kenya maybe she can grab a copy of Obamas birth certificate and run in 2012.
Sure, she might as well kill two birds with one stone!
I hope Hillary runs kicks Obama's azz in 2012!
Great Idea! Bring back some more of his kin too. Oops, never mind, there already here illegally too, my mistake.
yeah, that'd be the ticket Hillary vs Sarah, 2012. Let's have them debate healthcare now to see how it would look during the campaign. EEwwww!
How about instead of debates we just have them mud wrestle.
I hope she runs too, that means no Democraps for 2012, Unfortunately it will mean Repukelican reign again, gotta vote them both out America, vote them out! Heres the LIST get educated, and vote educated, there are choices!
Other parties in contention for presidential electoral college majority
In order for a party's nominee to have the possibility of becoming president by majority vote of the electoral college (as opposed to by decision of the United States House of Representatives after an electoral majority has failed to be reached), they must be on the ballot in states whose collective electoral vote total is at least half of the Electoral-College votes. In addition to the two main parties listed above, three additional parties met this criterion in the 2008 Presidential Election.
[edit] Other parties that have nominated candidates in recent elections
These parties have offered candidates in recent elections, but did not in 2004, and they did not have ballot status in enough states in 2008 to win the presidency by majority of the electoral college. Some do not have presidential candidates, and only field candidates for Congressional and/or state-level offices.
[edit] Other parties that have not nominated candidates in recent elections
Some of these parties have nominated candidates in the past, but have not done so recently for various reasons. Others have not yet nominated any candidates.
[edit] Regional parties
Few, if any, of these parties have nominated presidential candidates. The years are when they were founded.

Oh man. I love your comment. Made me laugh out loud. Think she'd do it? Hell I would! Give me a plane ticket, I'd be on my way fast and furious!!
Tired of BS, no wonder you're tired. That's quite a post there. Wayyyyy too long for me to decipher.
All you need to know here is vote Libertarian. They want less laws, less government, less world involvement (or encroachment however you want to look at it), etc.
Basically they want us to have our freedom.
Tired,
I agree with you, we need to get both parties out of here! Neither one cares about our country or the people in it, unless you are giving them money. I am going to study up on 3rd parties and will find another candidate. I am starting to think the repubs and dems are in cahoots against us.
tsk, tsk, tsk....guess the biatch is back.....
Hmmm - so Sarah Palin's whining is not bitchy - how hypocritical of you.
I'm sure the Congolese student was a plant by the vast right-wing conspiracy to embarass the SOS. Reminds me of when she hissed: "We are the President!" But now it is: "I am the SOS." I guess Bill is SOL.
Guess someone stole her thunder! Bwwaaahhhhaaaaa!
Obama did that on purpose you know - sent Bill instead.
Besides, it's Bush's fault.
Ah, the old "let's blame Bush" rhetoric! You're blaming him for the 16% umemployment rate too I bet! And is some states, up to possibly 20%. I thought the trillion dollar stimulus package was going to take care of that. Wake the hell up before you're in communist Russia and there's nowhere else to turn for good healthcare without waiting 6 months for an MRI! You'd be dead by then if you had a serious disease. But if you don't care about your life or the life of your loved ones, keep backing this a-hole!
I'm sure the left will complain that it was a plant from the Congolese right meant to disrupt her talking points.
Exactly. They talk about the screaming at the town halls, but I have never seen such an angry administration as this...and uncouth.
DrMan, what a presumptuous handle. It shows your intellect level. Hmm. What DO we call the one who finishes medical school at the bottom of their class? DOCTOR. I have 4 advanced degrees in education, and you CAN call me Dr. for one of them.
The Congo is male oriented, therefore still backward in their intellectual beliefs. This is why they would only consider her husband first. I don't believe the student meant to say Obama. I think the student was 'back pedalling' so to speak. I'm glad she gave them turse answers to their ignorant questions. Maybe now the African countries, including Congo, will start to pull themselves out of their retrograde ways of thinking. Just like I hope for the same for you, Dr.Man, but I doubt if there's much hope for people like yourself.
DOCTORscarlettohara. I can only surmise from the intelligence and originality shown in your comment that you must have been the one at the bottom of your class. Or is that a non-accredited degree that you bought off the Internet?
Wow, 4 advanced degrees in education. Gee Doc, you may come down from on high, we commoners are not able to take the intellectual light beaming from your presence! Shut up! I love the ones that try to play "Superior" . By the way Dr. 4 degrees, that's how you make a point! Or, you can do it like this (Superior), this isn't proper 'Superior', but you should know that having all those degrees.
Dr. Ohara for someone of superior intellect you provided an incoherent message that seemed to be, at once, both rambling and insulting. Surely someone of your intellectual prowess could have written a more satisfactory disclosure of your views, could you not?
Hey, DOCTOR scarletohara, perhaps your four advanced degrees in education would be more impressive and appear more valid if you could manage to SPELL correctly -- the word is TERSE, not turse.
Oh, and BTW, I do NOT have a PhD. But just because you have four of them only means that you can "pile it higher and deeper" four times faster than anyone else. So get off your high horse and stop denigrating others in your educated ignorance.
Scarlett - ignore the comments and obvious insecure jealousy from them. Rather than be secure of accomplishments outside academia, the commentors dissing you would rather deflect how they feel about themselves. I am sure my comments are going to get a backlash ... I will read them with humor.
DrBSPhdMBAScarlettohara, amazing that after all those years getting an education you still haven't mastered the art of reading an article and comprehending what it says. Somewhere along the line you appear to have missed the point that the question was meant to refer to President Obama not Bill. The poser of the question wasn't backwards at all. Maybe of course if Hillary like so many others, instead of being pompous and assuming everyone will learn to speak her language, had bothered to learn the native tongue of the countries she's visiting, this confusion wouldn't have occurred. Anyways, a diplomat should never react in a personal fashion like she did.
BTW when was the last time you went to any African country? They may have different cultural and religious criteria than here, but I can assure you that at a "people" level the majority of people there are equally intelligent as someone allegedly holding 4 advanced degrees.
Quite a wise move on the President's.
"Keep you friends close and your enemies closer"
Any one could tell he was "appointing" her Sec. of State to keep her close to the Administration. Don't give her anything important, by all means nothing "diplomatic", just keep her onboard, so she couldn't be a threat to him in 2012.
A very crafty man our President is. WATCH OUT!
