I'd like to express my gratitude for those who marched. Family matters made it impossible for me to attend, but I was there in spirit.

I was planning on going and had an e-ticket printed out. I was going to go unassisted, no insurance company offered me any gas money, or to pay my motel expenses. Dick Armey never offered me a per diem. Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh.... never heard a word from any of them about chipping in on expenses. We do not have a George Soros /MoveOn.org to count on for fiscal support.

If there is a revolution it will come about at the voting booth initially. If that fails, either this republic goes under, as dewintre is warning, or serious civil unrest follows. Change is coming, but not what Obama envisioned.......

Perhaps somewhere out there is someone willing to come up with a better plan to fix health care, rather than just call others names and pick on their upbringing. I talk to allot of people in my line of work, 100% of everyone I talk to is pissed off and ready to join anything they can that might stop what is happening now inour Government. MSNBC would like you to think it was only Conservatives at the march in Washington. I know for sure it was also Independents and Democrats that also were there. I speak to many people in my line of work and recently I have noticed many that voted for Obama would not do the same now. Many people I speak to also feel the same way i do and are ready to start marching, protesting or do whatever is necessary to stop what our government is doing now and to stop the spending. Yes, you can bankrupt a Nation and this Nation is heading for Bankruptcy at this very moment. Obama said it right, "Look at UPS and FedEx, they are doing just fine, it's the Post Office that's not". That was a perfect example of why you do not want a government run health care system. They can't even run what they are running now. Politicians refuse to address a main cost factor in our health care system, the lawsuits that cause all medical facilities and doctors to charge more to pay for their malpractice insurance which is sky high. Why ? Because many many law firms make a fortune from the lawsuits (They keep at least a third of the money they get) and they are large political donors and have a large lobby in Washington. Not to mention that most politicians are lawyers themselves. In the end us tax paying Americans will get the shaft again.

This is the problem I have with lefties, they act on bad information, and don't let a lack of it slow them down. I constantly see people manufacture stories, fill in the blanks, exaggerate, draw a bogus conclusion and run with it. What sense does it make to march on the U.S. Capitol on a Saturday? Congress isn't even in session so what impact is this protest going to have? We all claim that politicians work for us but is this how bosses usually deal with poor performance from their employees? I am sure with the savings the Unions will get, the union members will still pay their usual dues and health care. But in turn the Dems benefit from much larger campaign donations (Maybe some will find it's way into politians pockets) from the Unions and the Union bosses will get a very large raise (Politics as usual). Marv, The protest about health care is not about poor people, the disabled or the elderly, there are many many programs in place now for all of those people and we already pay for those in our taxes. If the Government ran those programs better instead of trying to create another program to mismanage, we would all be better off. The government never even lets people know that these programs exist (They could promote the availability of them better), so most Americans beleive there are none. Most Americans (Democrats, Independents and Republicans) believe we need to take care of the truly needy, but this health care for all is not about the truly needy. We will pay for many that could pay, but now may not have to and others will be made to pay for them (Drug Addicts and Alcoholics by Choice, People that just don't want to pay, People that don't feel like working, and many that could pay but beat the system). This health care plan is just another Union payback disguised as a great thing for Americans, and like many government programs before this, it will cost more than they ever thought, need to raise taxes to pay for it, and in the end will be nothing that has been promised. You will wait 6 months to see a doctor and many will pass away before they schedule a life saving operation in a system like what has been proposed. When I call a doctor now, many are too busy and won't take new patients, and if I get an appointment, it is 2 months away if it is not an emergency. This proposed plan will more than double wait times for visits and operations.

Uh no, Obama has not added more than 5 trillion to the national debt. And the point is not about who has, or will, add more. Both parties are wrong for escalating the debt. POTUS Obama has some great ideas for this country. Unless you've been living in a cave, you know that the federal revenue from all federal taxes is down more than 20% from this time last year. This is because the unemployment rate keeps climbing with no real end in site. Yet this lack of the taxpayer's money does not seem to phase many in Congress nor POTUS Obama.

A house is not built from the roof down. It must have a good foundation from which to put up walls to support the roof. Workng Americans are the foundation for the walls and roof of our government and the foundation is currently crumbling under the weight of the walls and roof of the federal government that many in Congress and POTUS Obama keep adding on to. Before they take on the monumental task of creating a government ran health care plan for all, don't you think it would be a good idea for them to prove to use they know what they are doing by fixing what is wrong with Medicare first? If they don't know how to fix something like Medicare that has been working (and losing money) since it's inception, then how can they be trusted to create a brand new and vastly more complex and expensive health care plan.

This is the point that Obama and many in Congress are missing or perhaps hope that we will overlook.

I am all for letting our current leaders in Washington know how we feel. I support the tea baggers right to demonstrate. The personal attacks, however, are unnecessary and counterproductive. I want this movement to grow, to expand, to mobilize other Americans to begin to dialogue with each other and to express their opinions to their representatives. To do that, these protesters need to speak out when they get home, continue to do what they started, and put pressure locally for fiscal responsibility. I know this is a broad based movement with people joining for a myriad of reasons but one thing that unites is people are finally finding their voice and want less government. Sure, it would have been great to have been doing this four years ago or even earlier, but now that it is here, please do not stop and do not let the Republicans or any political party take over this movement. Then I was diagnosed with a rare cancer (this despite my healthy lifestyle). Following extensive surgery, and 2 days home from the hospital, I lost my job and health insurance. I was advised to apply for medicaid and disability. I never thought that I would have to do either. I received medicaid coverage until I received my first disability check. I was then told that my disability income ($1,500/mo., no other income or assets) rendered me ineligible for medicaid - UNLESS I paid nearly $900/mo. share of cost - leaving me $637/mo. to live on. I'm a very frugal, 53 year old single woman, but despite any amount of frugality, it was not possible to make ends meet on that amount.

What about medicare for the disabled? Well, I'm currently trying to survive the 24 month mandatory waiting period. They've tried to overturn that requirement many times over the years, but it is still in place (opponents, as usual, cite the cost). Well over a million disabled Americans are suffering without healthcare while waiting out the 24 month mandatory no-coverage period.

Do some research - you might be apalled by the statistics.

I was dropped by my employer's 1/2 provided health insurance. There was no COBRA option (even if I could have afforded it) because the company I had worked for had under 20 employees. I became uninsurable due to pre-existing condition. I was told that I could apply to a high risk pool, but that it would cost $1,200/month and wouldn't cover my pre-existing condition for 6-12 months. And, because what I have is a rare cancer, there was no other assistance (unlike the more well known cancers).

As far as what would help me in my current situation, the Public Option would be a possiblity - but apparently that would not be available to me (or anyone else) for 3-4 years - if it passes. The only other solution would be immediate repeal of the 24 month mandatory waiting period for medicare coverage for the disabled.

Can I count on you to write your representatives asking them to do that?

What I would like to see from some of these "tea baggers" would be to advocate laws in their own states that would forbid any state from receiving more federal funds than it contributes in federal taxes. That would be a good way to make taxes much fairer.

If course if every state were to pass this, the Red States from last election would instantly be in financial chaos and the Blue States would be able to give an immediate 14% tax cut. They don't like to know that California pays almost 20% more in federal taxes than it receives in federal funds while Alabama receives about 22% more in federal funds than it pays in federal taxes. But people in Alabama whine a lot louder than people in California.

Again ----- the RNC claims that there were 1 - 1.5 million attendees. The RNC issued a photo to back up their claims. Unfortunately the photo is at least ten years old (it is missing 4 buildings that were all constructed within the last 10 years - including the American Indian Museum.)

ExCalifornian, I am sorry about your health; cancer is horrible and it should never be taken lightly. I lost my dearest most loved Grandpa to pancreatic cancer a couple years back. He was retired, and on Medicare. He got what seemed like the flu, cause the whole family got sick, but then after they all recovered, he continued to get high fevers. My Grandma kept taking him to the clinic, and all they would do is hook him up to an ivy for a couple hours, and then send him home. That is what's called "rationed health care". Finally after a couple months of dealing with the clinic who accepts Medicare, my dad took him to the hospital where they took blood tests and found that he was already in stage 4 pancreatic cancer. So you know what my Grandpa's government run health care did? Alright now I'm crying again ...great. Composure...Because he was 76 he wasn't elligible for cancer treatment, and was sent home to DIE!! Oh they sent a nice hospital bed to his house, and a nurse to check on him about once a week. With nothing offered in ways of treatment my Grandfather wasted away to bones in 6 weeks! Do you know what that is called? It's called euthanasia.

Your first problem was being fired after your surgery, and subsequently lost your Employer Sponsored Insurance. I find this deplorable. I don't know who you worked for, but that sounds illegal to me, and I would look into legal actions against your former employer, and the insurance company that provides your Employer Sponsored Insurance. I think you should have been protected by the The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993.

So we know you lost your insurance because you lost your job. If you had private insurance before (instead of Employer Sponsored Insurance), depending on the package, you'd more than likely still have insurance. You currently have a "public option" through Medicare, Medicaid, Medical(if you were still in California). But according to you the "public option" aka Medicare and Medicaid wouldn't cover you without first taking around 70% of your disability check. Hence my comment about a perfect example of Gov. run Health Care. The Government will cover you, but you have to give them a big chunk of your check.

I can't believe the Gov. considers $1500 a month as being too big an income for Medicaid coverage. That's another one of your problems; the fact that the Gov. thinks a person bringing in around $18,000 a year is too large a sum and therefore the person doesn't qualify for assistance. And then they want close to $900. a month to cover costs. That's nearly $11,000 a year out of your 18,000. Can the Gov. employees not count? How on earth is anyone able to live on $7000 a year. Ridiculous!! I would have to say much of it is because you have cancer, a rare one, and are considered "high risk" liability for insurance coverage. Even on Health Reform.gov they admit the biggest problem facing Americans and their health coverage, is Employer Sponsored Insurance.

So where did Employer Sponsored Insurance originate from? Unions and the growing American industry. According to Steve Jonas and James Knickman, in their book, "Jonas and Kovner's Health Care Delivery in the United States", the idea of medical insurance grew during the Great Depression when Hospitals noticed their patients couldn't pay their hospital bills. I blame unions, lack of government regulation, and private Corporate greed, for our problems with health insurance. And please please don't confuse Corporations with Free Market Capitalism. It's fractional reserve banking, Banking Cartels, and the privately owned Federal Reserve which has a charter with congress to control our money. They control the printing and issuance of the money. Along with it's value and interest rates. This is not our first National Bank. President Andrew Jackson knew that bankers were heartless cut throats; keeping the Government and it's people enslaved with perpetual dept. So he was able to defeat the banks by getting congress not to renew the bank's charter, and had the US treasury print US Treasury notes, that Americans could use to pay taxes. Jackson was the target of 3 failed assassinations. Don't you just LOVE HISTORY. So full of information.

Why and how do National Banks do this? Simply put they print the money and then loan it to the Government with interest attached. So for every dollar printed, there's interest attached. So paying dept with a Federal Reserve not does nothing, cause that second and third dollar they printed so you could pay off the debt on the first dollar, also have interest attached to it.

We are perpetual slaves of the Banking Cartels. And until people understand this scam, and give the power of printing and issuing money back to congress our Government will always have a deficit. Being able to pay dept with gold and silver would be nice as well. That is "sound" money.

I lost my beloved mother 4 years ago - she had just turned 70. She actually had private insurance and medicare - the problem we had was that one doctor's ego and the hospital's desire to hang onto a fully insured patient got in the way of releasing her to a more capable medical facility. By the time they finally airlifted her to Stanford, she was too far gone to save, and she died 3 days later. The official cause of death was "sepsis" and secondary, "candidiasis" - translation, severe urinary tract infection from her catheter, and horribly mismanaged antibiotics. We amassed all the records, and looked for an attorney - none of them wanted to go up against the hospital group, and, "after all, she WAS 70...". She had worked full time the week before she was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. When I hear about "tort reform" I really have to wonder - what 'tort'? It must be very selective.

I was born in Berkeley, and still have family in the Bay Area. I live alone with my wonderful rescue cat. I have always questioned authority, and have listened to my heart and higher guidance. I am in tune with nature and all of her messages.

Yeah, it was a short post. I was getting tired...LOL I usually end up writing these long posts, I'm sure most people skip over. PS...when my grandpa was in the hospital, the doctor took my dad and aunt aside and told my dad, "I can't tell you anything because I could lose my license to practice." While saying this he scribbled something on a piece of paper and handed it to my dad.

The paper merely said, PH. So as soon as my dad got home he started doing research on cancer and PH levels in the body. He found that cancer cannot live in a body with a PH of 7 and higher. My dad looked everywhere for PH strips, and could only find them at an obscure health store. They tested my grandpa's blood and his PH was 4! Also my dad found out about this doctor who loss his license and was prosecuted for using methods not accepted by the AMA. Thank goodness the jury found him not guilty. If I remember correctly this doctor has his practice in Arizona or New Mexico. What he does is, puts cancer patients in a tub full of a certain type of salt. My dad tried looking for the salt, only to find the gov. doesn't allow the average citizen to purchase this salt. Gees...I can't find that article either. I also have read about vitamin B-17, which is found in apricot seeds. But B-17 is also illegal. Hmmmm...I see a pattern here. Please look these up, if you haven't already. I'm sure you looked into everything.

KatBel - You're right, 'our' political system is pretty messed up. With regard to labels, I'd probably classify myself as a liberal with a couple of conservative streaks. I am well informed and take the time to research the issues. It saddens me that so many of our representatives (in both parties) have been, and are, 'for sale' to the highest bidder.

I, too, have heard about the PH balance and cancer connection. As for B-17, commonly known as laetrile, I actually used to grind the apricot pits and put them on peanut butter toast (to disguise the taste). It bothers me that our government would make some of the B vitamins illegal (B-17 and B-15, both of which seem to have health benefits). I think that the future will prove a much stronger cancer/vitamin deficiency connection. And I truly believe that there are cancer treatments and cures which are being suppressed (or at the very least, not promoted) in the name of profits. Just one example - "graviola".

You see, one of the biggest shocks for me when I was diagnosed with this cancer (atypical carcinoid), was that I've been very healthy, lived a healthy lifestyle, normal weight, no substance abuse problems, and have taken vitamins & nutritional supplements for the last 30 years. There's been very little research done (probably because this cancer is so rare), but so far they have not found a strong family link, or environmental cause for it. Some people are wondering if it may be related to taking PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) for long periods of time (the jury is still very much out on this one), but that would make sense in my case.

One other thing that really bothers me - even someone who HAS health insurance is not covered for the more holistic treatments for cancer. And vitamins/nutritional supplements are taxed, while junk food is not.

Is that Christ like, to expect the labours of some to be given to other people? Health care is NOT a right, if a person is able bodied, he should earn the money to pay for his own health care. There are only a very few people who CHOOSE not to pay for health insurance. Most people who don't have it can't afford it. Why don't you talk to people who have been dropped from insurance, or can't afford it, and fall between the moon-crater-sized gaps in coverage before you start making judgments on people.

If you believe that God doesn't want health care for every single one of GOd's precious creations, then I would question what God you believe in. Of course, there are lots of people that claim the God of Jesus, but spew hate as a part of their religion (white identity movement, Fred Phelps), so I shouldn't be surprised. A Christian can only believe health care is a not right, only if he or she omits and overlooks every Bible passage that speaks to caring for the poor and oppressed. The repeated calls of the prophets (Amos, Isaiah, Jeremiah) were against the rich--who all they care about is their own stuff and not anyone else. The prophets also were speaking to the GOVERNMENT of God's chosen people. Jesus echoes the calls of the prophets in Luke 4, for example. And the funny thing is that Jesus doesn't seem to care one whit about who has "earned" walth. In fact, Jesus warns those who work hard and earn a lot and think they are better than their "lazy" neighbors of the dangers of wealth. Wealth pulls people away from God. They generally cease to want to share with their neighbors.

Do me a favor, read the Gospel of Luke at one sitting, straight through, and then come back and have a discussion about how Jesus wants to us to take care of our neighbors in need. And since this is a health care debate, focus particularly on the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10. There was a guy who by generally accepted religous commands should not have received health care. He was unclean (because of the blood and because he might be dead), he was a foreigner, in fact and ENEMY of Samaritans, and he was poor. Yet Jesus says that the people who walked by, who were rich and respectable were the villains, and the foreign, heretical Samaritan is the one who proved himself neighbor and did God's will because he chose to take care of this man's health care needs.

But in any case, JimmiesGirl, my father-in-law is on the board of a hospital. He's as conservative a Republican as there is, yet he says our current system of healthcare is unsustainable financially, and will collapse without major change. That means YOUR health insurance, too, girl, not just people poorer than you.

Frankly, since insurance rates are rising at a rate much, much faster than people's incomes are, what percentage of your income would you be paying in 15 years for insurance. 20-30%? Even if the system doesn't collapse, how in the world will you pay your bills if you have to plunk down that much of your income just for HEALTH INSURANCE???? How will you pay for housing, vehicles, other necessary insurances, food, clothing, and just spending money, if that much of your income is devoted just to health insurance, insurance that still might leave you with massive bills, and then drop you when you become too costly? How?

And do you realize how many people are driven into bankruptcy because they just get sick? And do you realize over 40% of them actually HAVE insurance? Why should people be punished because they have bad genes? Why should insurance companies make the big bucks ("it is harder for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person"--and if you have a home, job, health insurance, education, food, clothing, and disposable income, like me, you ARE among the rich people of the world, my friend--"for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.")

Jesus was about not just looking out for Me and Mine, but about anyone who was in need. People take care of Me and Mine with no command from Jesus to spur them on. Government is a tool for Christians to do that, and makes non-Christians contribute to their neighbors in need, too (like from the preamble to the Constitution, "promote the general welfare"). Like Social Security or MEdicare provides a safety net for the elderly. Unless you believe we should all go back to where the parents work themselves to disability then go live with their children???

The God of the Bible, the God of JEsus Christ, is always on the side of the poor, the oppressed, the captive, the disabled. Christians would do good to be attentive to what is good for these in making their political decisions, lest they find themselves opposed to God.

I just received a letter from Blue Cross this week. My family's insurance is going up by $170 a month, for no other reason than they know they can and options are few, as we own a small business and have to pay for our own insurance.

It's about choices. Whenever something is given over to the Federal Gov. the choices of the people diminish. States having authority/Sovereignty results in each State being unique according to those who live in each State, through State legislation. This gives 50 options to Americans, of what sort of State/ City they would like to live. You like the tax laws in this State, you have the option of living there. If you like the gun laws in that State,you have the option of living there. If you like the anti-gun laws of a State, you have the option of living there. By no means, am I saying that one can't or shouldn't try to change laws in their State. Nothing wrong with that. You still leave options open even if State laws have changed. Only means the options change. But once anything falls under the Federal umbrella, it unanimously throws all 50 States into one group, thus eliminating choices for what ever Federal Law is enacted.

I think this Health Insurance issue is so big because people are afraid of losing options in health care. Many States already provide their citizens with State Health Care(most are bankrupt). Obama knows this is the big issue, and that's why he's gone from saying he wanted a single payer system = no choices, to public option = limited choice, to having a third party independent non profit federalized group to represent the gov. in the private market = few more choices, to start with, until all the employers buy the Fed option. There will more than likely be tax incentives for employers to get the Fed. insurance.

I don't like the idea of government being our health insurance company. Oh yeah, it will be incorporated, just like the Federal Reserve, IRS, and the Government itself. What do insurance companies do? By law they have to keep 50% of revenue in reserves. This makes sense. So how do they do this? They Offer different packages at varying costs. They also reject a lot of people. Mostly on pre-existing condition. Why is it people who don't smoke, or drink, and have good health in their family, get better premiums, and lower costs? Because the chances are, if you're healthy you won't need much health care, just the yearly check ups. You are not considered a high risk liability. Where as, if you're a heavy drinker, chances are you're going to end up with a bum liver. You'll probably have to pay a little more for insurance, if you want everything that has to do with the liver, kidneys, or heart, to be covered. So in other words pre-existing conditions means you're at high risk of being a liability, and thus rejected. I don't like the pre-existing policy.

The government will have to do the same thing. That's why some people are concerned about rationed health care. And rightly so. Every nation with full on or semi socialized health care, ration health care. They have to in order to keep costs down.

The biggest reason for not giving our health care over to the Federal Gov. is that once it belongs to the Federal Gov. it's really hard to take it back. And since Obama can't be president for longer than 8 years, who will inherit our Federalized Insurance? It sounds real good to you now, cause you trust Obama. But what about the next guy? What would it have been like if we had Federal Health Insurance while G.W. Bush was president? Each Administration will tweak with it, add things to it, shave things off. Each new generation of legislators will add to it, or take things away.

With the private company, you don't like their product, don't be a patron. Can't do that with Gov. because they're the law, and you're their citizen. There are ways to get health insurance to everyone, without Federalizing insurance. Regulation, and laws pertaining to insurance policies, is one way to go.

In the past weeks I have spoken against some of your posts because I do not agree with some of your logic. I do have to credit you though, because your posts tend to stay on topic, are well thought out and supported. The heart of the health care debate is the same as the reason for yesterdays march, overspending and programs that will fail because they are more handouts then reform. I will say this on GW's behalf though, the wars being fought in afganastan and Iraq were started at the time by the will of the people. Others in this blog may disagree, but it was America screaming for revenge, and a nation sick of a petty dictator thumbing his nose at the world that caused him to take action. He may have been wrong in his thinking but he responded to the people. Even the drug legislation for medicare, people were complaining about drug costs to the elderly and he supported a program to relieve that burden. These things in mind, give him a leg up over Obama to this point. Obama is being overrun by the less moderate parts of his party and has stopped listening to the people.

This march in Washington should send a signal to our leadership that America is not happy with run a way spending, and business as usual in Washington. I think if asked, most of the marchers would be in favor of health care reform if it were well thought out, properly debated, and effective. I agree that we need to get our fiscal house under control and that the current proposal for healthcare reform is not a genuine way to do it. We are a LIBERAL nation. We were established as the first true liberal government so that it was responsible to the people. It's goal to guarantee freedom and equality to all people, regardless of race, creed, or color. I do not like the road we are currently traveling as a nation. The government has no business interfering in private corporations. It has no mandate for the redistribution of wealth, or to be in competition with private industry. It can regulate business practice to protect the consumer, but take overs and control is going to far. The establishment of the public option would not necessarily be a bad thing except for the ties to government for oversight and control. Bigger government means more spending and less control by the people on how their money is spent. The mint may print money but it is the people who give it it's value by our support of our current government. It is the tax payers who produce the goods and services and later pay taxes that support our nation.

There will be those that disagree with what I've said, and to them I ask this question. Are your objections based on resarch and honest observations of our country, or just the jibbering of hatred based on an agenda dictated to you? That's what confuses me so much. Why are these people defending these insurance companies who rip people off and let them suffer and die after paying for it for years? The President is trying to give us all something better and he is called every nasty thing in the book. I had insurance through my job. My oldest daughter was killed and I took a few weeks off to be with my family. I missed a payment and they canceled my policy. These people have a valid concern and are voicing their opinion to our lawmakers with their freedom of speech and public assembly. Roger, I think the name callers are the Americans protesting what America voted for last fall. They are actually chanting 'liar' to our President. They have called him a lot more as well. Which is their right...this is America. However, you need to remember that the majority of Americans did vote for Obama and his policies. He won 7.2% more than McCain...10 million more votes. Where is the outrage against the bailout for the auto industry and the banking industry?? We are going to be taxed on that for years.

I heard someone say the other day that a career polictician is about as hard to remove from office as a tenured professor. That needs to change. In both realms!

RWilliams: It's really not that "unbelievable" -- there are many American's who, rather than use their own brains and the internet to check the facts, would rather listen willy-nilly to those vitriolic talk show hosts (Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Beck, etc.) and believe them. It's like lemmings....they just follow the crowd rather than make their own decisions based on the facts. They're too lazy to even CHECK the facts. It's a sad point in the U.S. today....the media has done what people are complaining about -- it's taken over their lives -- moreso than they seem to think the current administration is attempting to do.....
