Read the Bill, it does not say it will provide coverage for illegals. It's one thing to wave a document over your head, it's another thing to actually read it. To those of you who say there is nothing in the bill to approve healthcare for illegals, technically you are correct. There is nothing to disapprove it either. But there is an amendment in the House version that would allow for coverage for illegals.

COBRA and IMTALA Law requires hospital Emergency rooms to treat everyone regardless of race, color, creed, ability to pay, citizenship status, etc, etc.

FEDERAL LAW requires the treatment of a human being; it does NOT guarantee PAYMENT for that treatment.

Hospitals are saddled with a law that would put most businesses "out-of-business."

Since the quality and standard of care rules require an intensive and EXPENSIVE diagnoses and treatment, the poor or illegals CANNOT be discriminated in the level of care, or be refused care.

So, while Obama claims NO MONEY will go to illegals, as TAXPAYORS, we will still have to fund their care through taxes and increased medical insurance premiums.

I believe Joe Wilson was sorry for the venue but will not take back the words. Now everyone has had a chance to look at the bill Obama authorized (he said this in his speech--he was standing back to let the legislature draft the bill), HR3200 would provide health insurance for illegal aliens because it does not specificially exclude illegal aliens. In a close vote 25-27 in committee to force everyone to prove citizenship to take advantage of Obmacare, the bill came out on the floor without explicitly prohibiting them
by requiring proof of citizenship--hence when Obama said his bill would not include illegal aliens he was parcine words--It doesn't say "this bill includes illegal aliens," but Obama and everyone else knows that will be the result of no enforcement makes it so they are included.

I say Joe Wilson is correct in his assessment that Obama saying his bill would not include them is a LIE!

Because of his outburst more people who would have just believed Obama (why anyone would after all the lies on the campaign trail) and now they will know at least that if this passes they will be footing the bill for from 12-40 M illegals who won't be paying taxes to help out with paying for all this mess.

First off I am a registered Independent and don't support Obama or most of Congress in what they are doing and especially the way they are going about it.

That being said, get off your lazy butt and look up H.R. 3200 on line, like anyone else can and you will see for yourself that if does specifically say that Illegals Immigrants and those here legally on work or student visas will not be covered. However no where in H.R. 3200 does it say how they are going to go about verifying who is a citizen and who is not, so in theory it would be very possible that many if not all illegals/non residents could get coverage. In short, Wilson has made his apology to the person he directly offended and it has been accepted and put to rest. Now the high and mighty Democrats in Congress need to follow the example of their glorious leader and let go of it as it simply makes them look petty and vengeful.

Obama has had so much practice apologizing for this great nation over and over again--maybe he should apologize for the three lies in a row in his speech the other night. Apologize for yourself Obama--under HR3200 since the committee didn't pass the amendment that would have kept aliens from Obamacare usage the bill implicitly makes it legal for aliens to do just that.

Since the bill does not for bid the use of public moneys for abortion (as other legislation has done) that means the bill does tacitly say that abortions WILL be covered by public monies.

Since it does have a group of "experts" saying whether or not you can have a life saving treatment--when they give the thumbs down--like the Caesers of old--it means they have given a death sentence--hence the term "death panels" isn't in the legislation, but the panels of experts can and will decree death to many who could have continued to live healthy lives with as small an expense as a pace maker for their heart.

I still want someone to show me in the bill where it states that illegal aliens are covered. It explicitly says that they are not covered. And I don't care about your whining about enforcement. This is a health care bill, not an immigration bill. Take care of immigration issues in a separate measure. Trying to get health care fixed is hard enough without dragging these immigration issues into it. And by the way, I don't know about you, but I don't want ER doctors asking about my citizenship status when I come in bleeding from a car accident. And do you really expect that ER doctors are going to turn away someone who is in dire need?

I am assuming that many of you most vehemently opposed to this health care bill consider yourself Christians. I guess I would like to know how you interpret the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Page 143 states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

Now, I guess I have a difficult time understanding how this can be construed as saying that the bill provides health care to illegal aliens. Again, this is a health care bill, not an immigration enforcement bill.

Jin - and health care costs aren't out of control now? You are satisfied with the status quo? Do you have an adult son with type 1 diabetes who will never be able to get affordable insurance on the open market because of pre-existing conditions? I guess you and I have a fundamentally different perspective on the role of the community. I personally am lucky as I have reasonably good health insurance that is still affordable (although rising in cost). And how did you construe what I said as saying that people shouldn't work hard? I work hard as an individual, have been reasonably successful, and want my efforts rewarded. And like most folks, I grumble at government waste, wish I could pay less taxes, and want my individual rights preserved. HOWEVER, we aren't just individuals, we are also part of a larger community, and as individuals we also owe something to the community. And in my opinion, access to reasonable health care is something we owe to all members of the community. You obviously have a different opinion and that is OK. But we have to be able to find a way to civilly discuss these things.

I think that incident took place in 2005 while Bush was addressing the members of the House and Senate. The same venue and situation as Obama's speech. There is no mistaking the boos and the cat calling from the Dem. section. Not sure of the exact date or occassion, but it is definitely on tape, I've seen and heard it. If, as you say, you've been watching all you can find, maybe you haven't seen all of them.

The "option" is no option. Raise the employer penalty to 20% and it will become more option-like. At 8%, employers that currently provide health insurance will be dumping employees into this sub-par system so fast it will make your head spin.

You just don't "get it". It is the Government that has been screwing us, not the insurance companies. The Federal Government (House & Senate) does not allow competition between insurance companies.

It is the Feds who have control over interstate commerce, and insurance companies are not allowed to compete against insurance companies in other States. For those who do not know it, that means they are limited to operating in the State they are based. Unlike the auto insurance companies who (which Pres. Obama failed to mention in his address) can compete against each other nation wide.

Want to point the finger of blame at someone? Point it at the very people (Congress) who are going to screw us with Government provided "health care".

This isn't some theoretical or ideological discussion for me. This is my life. I have a preexisting condition. If it weren't for Clinton, the insurance companies would have been denying me outright. But since he made 'insurance available to all' (I say that with tongue firmly in cheek) they couldn't refuse me. Great, right? But when I applied, they wanted to charge me $7,500/month premiums.

I need insurance. If it comes from the federal government, I'm for it. When it comes to private insurance companies competing against one another, I just don't buy it. Too often these very powerful interests get together to rig the market. And guess what, I have no power to vote THEM out of office. At least with the feds, there's some accountability at the ballot box.

An honest question looking for an honest answer - and I guess this is an ideological conversation now - we live under a 'democratic republican' form of government, right? That means we are the government and the government is us. So why do you view the government as 'the enemy'? 'The government' is made up of our fellow citizens who we all vote into office or are appointed by those we put into office. They're out fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters.

You may argue that we have the government we deserve because people don't think enough, participate enough, or even vote enough. In that, we would be in complete agreement. But I just can't understand this 'us vs. them' mentality that I see. I think the old Reagan claptrap about the "gummint" being the enemy doesn't make sense to me and seems to cause more discord than it's worth.

I guess I'm not interested in left or right, Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative. I'm for what works. And roads seem to work. Libraries, for the most part, seem to work. The Coast Guard seems to work. I even like that I can still send a letter coast-to-coast for under 50 cents. I'm happy with public fire departments and police in spite of occasional screw-ups. I'm glad we have a public border patrol, though I wish it were beefed up some. The TVA was a good project. And if it weren't for DARPA we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

My employees are mostly senior scientists who have their own insurance already. One has a wife with great insurance that covers him, one is on medicare, the accountant's husband has insurance that covers her and the other three single guys are covered by the company right now. This is the limit we can handle. Why should I pay taxes so people can get insurance who are already have it through the wife.

You are correct, however, that Obama plans on any government option being his segway to single payer by forcing everyone else out of the market. You can count on it.

For starters, we have for our Government (or are supposed to) a Constitutionally Limited Republic, we have democratic principals, but it is not a democracy. If it were we would have for 1, no electoral college, nor would we have equal representation in the Senate (2 per state), only in the House are representatives allocated for the quantity of residents in a given State. This is part of the checks and balances built into our Constitution, otherwise we could have democracy which for all intents and purposes is mob rule.

I do not trust the Government (in answer to your question) because they have put themselves in an exalted position. They ignore us and our wishes as if we are all too stupid to be trusted with our own lives. It is supposed to be a Government for and by the people, but it seems to have degraded to a what's in it for me, and what can I do to further gain a majority for my party, be it dems or repubs.

The original intent was for there to be a citizen legislator, where people would go into Government, serve for a while, then go back home and do their regular jobs. It was not supposed to be a career wherein corruption could catch hold and flurish. By the way. Why do we need a full time House and Senate? We already have enough laws that if enforced would keep us in good stead. Get them there, have them make a budget for the year, then go home, only to be called back annually or if a real emergency emerged.

To your earlier post, I agree that one should not be priced out of insurance, nor denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition. I too have a pre-existing condition, so someday I could be in the same situation. Right now I work for GM almost 27 years as an electrician. But what happens if I lose my job at my now Government owned company?

But then again, Government (Congress) is responsible. There is no crisis unless unless Government creates it through design or the inability to stop and think of consequences for their actions. Also, again, Congressional regulations are snuffing out competition by not allowing interstate competition for health insurance.

I can tell you are not from my State (Michigan), for if you were you would not be saying the roads work. The reason for this is Government regulations, they have a take the low bid regulation for interstate highways. When this happens, you get the cheapest in materials, methods, labor, and end product. Then you have 2 seasons, winter and road construction.

I would rather they do like is done in Europe where they have specs as to what materials to use. They all must abide by the same standards, then they bid, and build under rigid guidelines, and then must warranty their work. That is why the Autobahn is so good.

Government is having a real hard time with Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac with their ineptitude in making regulations stick or work, not to mention the corruption. Medicare and Medicaid are in trouble because in the past they were expanded past their boundaries of funding and common sense. Social Security is in deep trouble in the future, because in part the Government has considered it to be their piggy bank, without anything but an IOU to show for the raids they made for various reasons. Fannie and Freddie are also mainly responsible for our financial difficulties, thanks to the laxity of people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

I am an independent voter, I vote in every election, doing my homework on issues and the people who are running and vote accordingly, whether it be for a dem or repub. I am also tired of paying for everyone else, especially for those who make no effort to better themselves, but expect someone like me who has a job to pay their costs. I believe only those who have physical or mental conditions should be cared for, if you are able bodied and mentally fit, then you need to get out and work, at a pay commensurate with your abilities.

To sum it up, one needs to accept responsibility for their choices in life and not expect the Government to fill thier hand at the drop of a hat. If you are unfortunate enough to have lesser capabilities, then and only then should the Government help.

Juno, my point is by only charging 8%, the government will be guilty of conducting unfair business practices. I have great insurance through my employer that has always been complimentary. We have had to chip in a nominal amount towards it recently. No complaint here as I am certain my employer is paying a percentage close to 18% to cover us. If my employer can save 10% by paying the penalty, don't you think they will? I have already spoken to several individuals in the medical field that state they will not accept the government option as payment. What is the government going to do, pull their license to practice?

ChevsMark - First and foremost, I want to thank you for the tone of your response. I appreciate your ability to speak person-to-person in a forum that, too often, seems solely about one upmanship. I also want to thank you for taking the time for a very well considered response. While I may have some minor disagreements with just some of your views, I have nothing but respect for you.

I agree with your characterization of our government. Our understanding of how it functions - and how it was intended to function - is largely identical.

I think the crux of what's at issue these days is the very same thing that was argued when they were writing the Constitution and discussion what should and shouldn't make it into it. That would be the 'Necessary and Proper Clause' (also known as the 'Elastic Clause' or the 'Basket Clause'....we learned it as 'the Elastic Clause' in school when I was growing up).

It reads: "The Congress shall have Power - To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof."

The anti-Federalists all thought it was going to grant the Federal government limitless powers while the Federalists said, "No, it just guarantees what's already in there." Uh, huh. Patrick Henry spoke against it saying the clause would result in a government running roughshod over its people.

I would guess, ChevsMark, that you would be in the anti-Federalist's camp on that one, right along with Mr. Henry. But on the other side of the argument, they would say that this clause has allowed the Constitution to grow with the times.

So, when I hear you suggesting that we run the federal government as if the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, two World Wars and too many police actions to count haven't come between us and the writing of the Constitution, I have to point back to that 'Necessary and Proper Clause' because - agree with it or not - it did make it into the Constitution and Patrick Henry's arguments did not carry the day.

I'm of the opinion - and I do stress 'opinion', ChevsMark - that I'm glad the Elastic Clause made it in. I'm glad the Founders saw fit to make the Constitution a living document instead of making of it a dead, inflexible thing. I think that the Constitution's strength is largely due to its ability to grow with the times. BUT, I share your concern that the government has gotten too big, too powerful, too out of touch, and too invasive. We agree completely on that.

However, I am equally concerned that our corporations have gotten too big, too powerful, too out of touch, and too invasive.

At the time the Constitution was written - and about the time Adam Smith was penning the Wealth of Nations (the blueprint of modern capitalism) the corporation was a very different animal. It had a limited life. It had a restrictive charter that limited its ability to grow, how much capital it could hold, and required it to act in the 'public good'. It was not unheard of for a corporation not acting in the public interest to lose its charter; effectively, a death sentence. The corporation was not an entity with any power that could rival the government's power. I think that if it did have that kind of power when the Framers wrote the Constitution that they would have included some language to address it.

Times have changed and so have the powers granted the corporation. First off, they can now live in perpetuity, there's no limit on their holdings, and they're no longer required to act in the public interest.

They are granted the same rights under the law and Constitution as a flesh and blood individual, but by virtue of their great wealth they have far more power than any flesh and blood individual.

Now we have corporations that we're told are "too big to fail" and we taxpayers have to prop them up. My question is why aren't we breaking them up? IMO, there should be no "too big to fail"."Too big to fail" means we have completely externalized the cost of failure on the American public. So far from 'acting in the public interest' they act to the public detriment.

ChevsMark, I get that you don't want the government to have its hand in health care. So, what do you want to have happen with health care? What's your idea for how to handle the current crisis? Do you really think private health care has worked and is the way to continue?

Granted, the genie has been out of the bottle on health care being provided by the Government for 45 years, but don't spread that crap.

I believe, as I think most do, that people who honestly can not afford to purchase their own health care insurance should be assisted, (about 12 million according to stats) but the rest have either been illegals (approx. 17 mil) or for 1 reason or another opt to not pay for insurance. Perhaps they can deduct their medical costs on their income tax returns, or they are blessed to be healthy enough to not need to visit a doctor more than 1 or 2 times a year.

So what is Government trying to do? The estimated 12 million should not be a real burden of the system, so the problem is??? The "illegal immigrant". Ship them back, along with their anchors and there will be no problem.

The real issue is Government trying to expand under the guise of "doing the right thing". It is all about control, and gaining more for themselves.

Beware of Government benevolence. As President Reagan said, "The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

He also said, "No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!"

When he todze stated racists and separatist groups, I know of no elected official that has belonged to more than Obama. Look at Obama's friends, associates and affiliations. Here we go:

The answers are rather simple without letting government get their foot in the door to take over the whole system. Fix what needs to be fixed to control costs, i.e., tort reform, illegal immigration, competition across state lines and set regulations that cover the "legals" for pre-existing conditions, cost limits, moving/changing jobs, etc.

America has the best health care in the world and believe it or not, that costs money. Ever notice that brand new piece of electronics costs allot of money. After a few years it does not cost as much. The rest of world has health care that is years old, so it does not cost as much. The US develops over 50% of all new procedures, equipment and drugs throughout the world and believe it or not, it is not "free". Let the government get more involved and there goes the incentive to maintain the best. Mediocrity just like our education system. Sounds pretty healthy to me.

It sets up a situation, when the President goes to another country or in this country another person could do the same, not just with words, but a shoe or weapon.
