After all the fuss, public option would cover few

What's all the fuss about? After all the noise over Democrats' push for a government insurance plan to compete with private carriers, coverage numbers are finally in: Two percent.

REQUIRE that all Ins. carriers offer coverage across State lines. Auto, Life and other types of Insurance already do so, why not Health coverage?

ALLOW small companies to band together to get the best 'pool rates'.

OFFER both a State and Federal alternative program that prohibits Carriers from cherry picking and refusing coverage due to a 'pre-existing' condition.

Let the consumer decide what deductible they can personally handle.

OPEN ENROLLMENT every year (Jan 1-30 ?)

This should not be a partisan issue, and the dolts in DC are turning it into a circus and letting the Insurance carriers call the shots.

There should not be a concept of Open Enrollment - why can you only sign up certain times of the year? I would be ok with a 6 month wait or such to prevent people signing up only when they need treatment.

Also require that every member of congress, the judicial branch and the administrative branch be covered by this policy with no options, public or otherwise, for additional insurance.

Get this through and the bill will die instantly.

If it is so good for us, why isn't it good enough for our employees...the congress?

Our Congress is filled with bloody fools. Nancy Pelosi is the biggest fool of all, a complete charlatan and a vicarious criminal. How can she get elected? Only because the American voting public is a bigger bunch of stupid fools. Today, more than 40% would re-elect Obama in spite of his abysmal performance. In one year, he has achielved the distinction of worst US president ever in our history, a dubious honor that it took Jimmy Carter four years to achieve. We deserve the punishment we will receive during the next three years because we believe the big lies from Obamanation.

With news like this, I am beginning to listen to what the Republicans are saying. I read that Newt Gingriich advocates Congress getting 3 independent analyses of any health bill by professional analysts. That looks more and more like the right approach.

btco, it would theoretically reduce the deficit using the numbers provided, only after 10 years. That only accounted for raw costs, not the inevitable rise in pricing and the corruption that always seems to follow these government programs.

So, since the bill won't be enacted until 2013, this program just might help the deficit in 2023. When have you ever invested in anything that took 14 years to show a return (maybe)?

Ya think? Because if only 2% are getting covered that leaves a boatload left over now doesn't it? Which shows all along this wasn't about coverage, nor would these clowns use the extra to pay down any debt,......in case you haven't been paying attention to their fiscal irresponsibility, because whenever they spend, we get screwed, or the cost is 20 fold in actuality.

Watch out! Nancy is at it again and it will not be pretty. She is working hard to jam this bill up our respective behinds just so illegals and welfare recipiants can have health care services that they already have and have been using for many years. Federal law mandates that a hospital emergency room is required to treat anyone regardless of their ability to pay or their status in this country. If hospitals refuse treatment, they will lose federal funding. The 2% mentioned in this article will not opt for insurance and will use the same emergency rooms as the poor with no requirement to pay. We should bombard the White House and our Congressional Leaders with letters and emails requesting health care reform that will give all citizens in this country the same healthcare plan that Congress has. This is the only way to have fairness and equal coverage for all, from the poorest to the richest. Congress should not have access to more services than they negotiate for their constituents.

Ocala - Here's the information from the CBO. This is real reform that is by no means perfect, but it does provide coverage to the vast majority of Americans and is not going to add to the deficit. If there is one thing the CBO does, it's UNDER estimating cost savings. They have very strict standards. My guess is like times before this, they have under estimated the cost savings we are likely to see.

I find it amazing the first time the CBO came out with numbers for the first bill at a trillion, they couldn't get a thing wrong. They were perfect. Yet when they show that this may actually be lowering the deficit, they can't get a thing right.

This hasn't been done, there are no solid facts. Educated guesses. My guess is theirs is a hell of a lot better than anything you would formulate.

The 2% is as fictious as the $1000 Obama was going to send all of the middle class people in the US. You did get yours, didn't you?

It's great to see so many comments from folks that are clearly paying attention to what is going on in our country.

Agree it is a lame article, considering the timing...let's keep talking and LOUDER! No ObamaCare! Not now, not ever. Fix the root of the problem - tort reform - getting what you pay for - cross-state competition, etc. There are some good ideas being floated around out there.

We don't need another government run program. If DC was being honest about the intent with HC Reform, they'd just provide a cash benfit to all those needing HC so that they could buy private insurance - that would be cheaper than what is in the bill...but alas...the intent....

Peaceful only! We cannot afford a martyr.

We must use Obama's own technique of repeating phrases long enough and often enough to attract the masses.

I like "Make Obama resign in 2009!" but I am up to anyothers that may work.

If you do not think public pressure can make a president resign, please look at Nixon. He had committed no crime. But the public pressure was such that he was compelled to resign.

what the hell is wrong with us. In California they had a recall election to dump the Governor. Thats how Arnold got it. Why can't we recall this idiot Obama and get rid of him before its really tooooooo late. Oh by the way, anyone want to bet that when he leaves office he pardons Rengal and his but Ritko from Chicago whos in Jain now. We should not only get rid of the O-bomb but everyone in congress and the Senate. (Is it time for a second revolution?)

Patriarch you are absolutely correct! There is no clause in the Constitution that allows for the recall of national officers. This is because our founding fathers were niave enough to believe that the people elected would be working for the good of the country, not to line their own pockets.

However, we, the people, have a voice, and if we use it, we can do the same thing that we did with Nixon...cause a resignation.

                                              (Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention I wasn't republican, didn't I?)

It is time that the people stand up and force Obama and Pelosi to resign. If we do not, we will not have to worry about a 2012 election. There will not be one.

If you want the government telling you what you can do and what you can not, if you want government taking away the freedom that you thought was guaranteed by the Constitution, then continue to support these people. You will have them taking care of your every need...and telling you who to marry, how many kids to have, what kind of work to do, where to live....

I am not ready for that. I oppose socialism and the current administration. I will not advocate violence. I have seen far too much of that. But I will suggest that every US citizen that values their freedom speak out! Yes, you will be called an idiot by the libs. Yes, you will be called a racist even though your skin is darker than Obama's, but it is the liberal way to attack people that speak out against them. They will try to make any opposition look like the lunatic fringe, a trick that was popular in 1940's Germany, to discredit you. They will tell you that because the color of your eyes is different than what they want, you can only do manual labor.

If this is what you want, support the current administration. But if you want freedom and the opportunities that the Constitution has promised, then you must stand up and voice your dissatisfaction with the current administration. Obama and Pelosi must go!
