Call it sexism or what you will, but why should the media only compare ambitious women to impressive men, when so many ambitious but underwhelming men get so far in this world?
Spare Sarah Palin the self-righteousness

It seems to me that someone who has to resort to name-calling in her massive book deal that she got while quitting on the citizens of an entire state (sorry Alaska, you're a lame duck office, didn't you know?) that elected her into office is not suited to be President of the United States.
The author completely misses the point that Palin is totally unqualified to lead the country. Her "I can see Russia from Alaska" comment is but one of many instances where she shows she lacks the sophistication to deal with leaders on the world stage. She might appeal to the folks in a rural area like Alaska but the massive urban centers of the world are beyond her intellectual reach
I am no fan of Palin's. At all.
But, "massive book deal"? Oh, I see, it's okay for Al Gore to make millions and millions on movies and books selling fear and meanwhile creating a carbon footprint for himself the size of a town of 50,000 people while eating a cheesburger, but heaven forbid a conservative take advantage of the capitalist system? How about Michael Moore, worth about $50 million, a huge chunk of which he made with a movie bashing the very system he used to make it. THOSE people can make money, but not a conservative woman?
The left-wing fear of her just makes me laugh. The double standard that's been applied to her is absolutely ridiculous. Would Newsweek have run a picture of Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi in workout gear on their cover? Hell no, but to demean Palin, it's fair game.
And it's all based on the fact that no matter what you think of her, and again I'm no fan, she shakes the foundations of liberal philosphy. She has five kids, what liberal has five kids? One's Down's Syndrome, what liberal wouldn't have aborted that child? Where's NOW? Aren't they supposed to support the advancement of women in a sexist society? Oh, right. They only support the advancement of liberal women, gotcha.
The hypocrisy of the left on this is so typical. It's okay for LIBERALS to get rich, to be attractive, to be successful, but for conservatives it's not. Laughable.
You are absolutely spot on with your post!! Couldn't have said it better myself.
So true Prag.
The AP has devoted (11) reporters to fact check Palins book.
Question -
If this woman is the dumb monkey that everyone makes her out to be - WHY WASTE THE TIME AND RESOURCES ON HER?
Question -
What kind of a world would we live in - IF - the AP devoted even half as many reporters to investigating Obama and his team ??
Something that actually matters to our lives - Sarah Palins' book, speeches etc.., are completely irrelevant right now has absolutely ZERO impact on our lives - but every minute that Obama is President and every action he takes has significant implications on our future -
JUST SAYING
Pragmatic,
Where in this article did it say that Palin, as a conservative woman, was not allowed to contract a massive book deal and make money? And where was Al Gore and his carbon footprint mentioned? Or Michale Moore? This article has absolutely nothing to do with any of the crap in your rant.
What are you even talking about?
Having 5 kids isn't necessarily a virtue. There are plenty of illegal immigrants in this country and single welfare moms in this country with 5 plus kids. Do you think they are all conservative republicans?
My brother is a blue collar guy. A democrat. And he and his wife are doing a wonderful job of raising their down syndrome daughter. To espouse the notion that anyone but a conservative would abort a down syndrome child is disgusting.
The inference that conservatives DON'T have abortions when it's convenient, is laughable. I know two very republican women who had the choice in front of them when we were in college and opted for convenience over life.
Humans are humans and can't be pigeonholed into a narrow political and philosophical view. They will almost always act in their own best interests, not in accordance with some silly ideology.
Did they do the same to go and fact check Al Gore's book?
Clinton's?? Obama's??? Just Asking....
Joe F,
Sarah Palin did not say that she could see Russia - it was Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live acting as Sarah Palin in a comedy routine.
Crusader:
Fact checking only applies to the Left's hit list.
btone -
See how bad broad generalizations suck? Unless, of course, you're a left wing nutbag making them about a conservative woman who doesn't happen to have an ivy league education - then she must be stupid. See what I did there?
No, the article wasn't about her book deal, the post I was responding to was, however. Re-read the first post in the thread, then get back to me if you need further clarification.
And BTW? I don't give a rats arse about your brother's kid, any more than I give a rat's arse about Sarah Palin's kid. Bleeding heart liberal twang doesn't work on me.
Sarah Palin does not have the credibility or believability to be a true contender in national politics, that's all that matters to me. I firmly believe that she dumbed herself down and took on that overly folksy demeanor during the campaign, so as to not scare of off the good old boys in the Republican party.
But it pisses me off to see her attacked in ways the left would NEVER tolerate if those attacks were directed at one of their own women. I am a registered democrat, and part of the reason for that is because of the sexism so rampant in Republican politics.
To see the SAME sexism perpetrated by the left, who claims to be SUCH supporters of equality is hypocrisy, period.
Yes, they did fact check those other books.
In fact, right wing watchdog Jack Cashill has been analyzing Obama's book "Dreams..."., not for facts, but for STYLE. He has drawn the conclusion that, due to the writing style in certain passages, Bill Ayers wrote the book. This opinion is not based on fact. It is based merely on his keen understanding of prose.
Such is the extent of the scrutiny of Obama's books.
Just my thoughts - For the record, she absolutely said that. It was in an interview with Charles Gibson on ABC. Check it out.
Amen, Pragmatic. The media has no credibility in the eyes of most of the public. I, like others here, can't understand why the press is so fascinated with her while they continue to ignore the huge issues the country is facing.
Prag,
I guess I'll never understand conservatives. I give a damn about all kids, especially those with disabilities. My brother's, Palin's, the kids I coach, anybody's. If that makes me a bleeding heart, then I'll wear the label.
Maybe what all the angst is about is based on the fact that if the american public can be duped into electing someone like Barry then there is enough stupidity out there to elect a Palin.
What does Sarah Palin's kid have to do with her abilities as political representative of the people of Alaska or the US? Nothing. That's why I don't give a rat's arse. But the media, largely mounted and humping on Obama's leg, made the coverage about her kids, her clothes, her accent, her blue collar background, etc etc etc.
Do you get my point yet?
Actually, Prag, Sarah made her kids part of her campaign. She made her "hockey mom" persona part of the game, campaigning on her "family values". The media just reported it.
Dee,
I believe she referred to Alaska's proximity to Russia. Tina Fey said the words "I can see Russia from my front door", not Sarah Palin.
Her exact words were - "You can see Russia from the shores of Alaska". So you can mince words, but it was still a stupid thing to say!
Here is her quote on Russia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXL86v8NoGk
Tina Fay @ 1:05
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psyo4JDbJJ4&NR=1
Hey Joe....She did not make that comment. That is a made up comment that some latched on to because they wanted to believe it. How about this one that I just made up from Obama..."I just want to turn this country into a communist state". That is more believable
"Still, the widespread suggestion in some of the media commentary that she simply isn't qualified enough to be considered a viable presidential candidate is ridiculous."
And the Junior Senator, Obama was qualified? That would be a no!
If Ms Clinton or Pelosi had posed for such a picture, you can bet it would be plastered all over the media. Sarah Palin wasn't caught off guard by some papparazzi, she posed for the picture and now -- surprise, surprise -- it's out there for all to see.
Just more exposure for her, and you can bet she's lovin' every minute of it.
I'm not saying Palin would have been a good or bad VP. My point about qualifications is that a Governor is qualified to serve as VP or even Pres. But a Junior Senator is not. That is actually clear thus far. I'm sure he is fun at a party though.
Os there something wrong with workout gear?
She got over a million dollars in bonuses just to WRITE this book man. Not to mention the millions she's going to get in sales.
I'd say that's a massive book deal.
By the way, Gore took all the money he made off of Inconvenient Truth and invested it in green energy research and global warming awareness. He then persuaded the production company (Paramount) to donate 10% of their earnings from the movie to reducing fossil fuel dependence.
But of course Sarah Palin is extremely concerned for Alaska and the economic mess she left them in. That's why she's giving back to the community and...oh wait, she's keeping all the money to herself.
How is that helping Alaskans better outside of the governorship? I don't know.
So, Bloggerich, you're saying Harry Truman wasn't qualifed to be VP?
Funny, funny story. I love hearing about this woman.
I'll give Mark Wittaker some credit. It is true the media adores the ratings bump (including, I suspect, Mark Wittaker) associated with any Palin story. It is hypocritical for them to claim she doesn't deserve the attention since they are the ones heaping it on her.
I suspect she'll find it harder and harder to get attention as 2010 arrives and passes while she spends time undercutting Repub congressional candidates in favor of more ideologically pure alternatives. You can fight Washington all you want, but Washington always wins.
Palin got $1.25 million advance
Hillary got $8 million advance
Bill Clinton got $15 million advance
If and when I run out of toilet paper I'll think about buying (ya i can see Russia from Alaska) book. Of course I'll need to run the car over it a couple of times to soften it up a bit...:)
The matter of the fact is you CAN see Russia from many points in Alaska. Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States (in fact there is even a web cam if you want to look yourself). At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart. In fact in winter you can walk accross on the ice. In addition, Tin City Air Force facility at Cape Prince of Wales, which is the westernmost point of the mainland Americas. The station chief at Tin City confirms that, for roughly half the year, you can see Siberian mountain ranges from the highest part of the facility.
How soon will it be that "Going Rogue" ends up in the unsold $0.99 book pile?
Palin was a former governor of Alaska who failed to serve even one full term, who ran for VP of the United States.
Bill Clinton was actually President of the United States.
Hillary Clinton was a former first lady and a United States Senator.
End of story.
Qualifications don't come from any job. A governor can never understand what it's like to negotiate Mid East peace, determine military posture in Asia, or work with a global economy. A Senator never knows what it's like to try to balance a budget or execute legislation or regulations. Qualifications come from the personality. Do you have the judgement, ambition, strength, ability to build coalitions, ability to reflect and adapt to changing realities, confidence in others to delegate authority, longterm vision? These are things presidents need. Sarah has the ambition. That's about it. She is not qualified, and I don't care if she has the best resume in the history of this nation. She is not qualified.
I know it is hard for you to understand that a politican would actually "do the right thing" and step down from her lame duck post to help her state rather than stay in just to suck up taxpayer's money (like Kennedy). Not to mention all the frivolous lawsuits the morons were filing just to be hateful. Keep it up, you are just helping keep her in the news and bringing in money to fight you self righteous liberals. You betcha
I don't care if Juneau and Moscow are separated by a bridge! Sarah should never have claimed proximity to Russia is foreign policy experience. You've missed the boat entirely. If she were talking about the unique geographical location of Alaska, nobody would care. She was talking about foreign policy experience! It was a stupid answer to a legitimate question concerning her understanding of global issues.
Would I be considered a racist if I ripped into the Obama children just like the democrats and liberal press ripped into the Palin children? By the way, 2-3 years as a state governor bets 6 months of actual attendance in the US Senate as a criteria of management experience.
And Obama’s "57 states" is not a stupid thing to say??? The problem with lib’s is they have no sense of humor, just hate. Also what about Obama's understanding of global issues, Apologize?
Nope. Not a racist, just sleazy. Of course, the Obama children weren't dragged on stage at every campaign rally.
The part I cannot figure is why PragmaticToAFault insists he is no fan of Palin's. At All.
Nor why he feels it necessary to bring in the 'reductio ad absurdam' argument about Gore's giant carbon footprint. Just because he is living the 'big life' doesn't negate the message.
On the other hand, you betcha by golly maverick of mavericks hockey mom pit bull with lipstick soi disant grasp of politics is exactly the message we are being asked to swallow by this book of hers.
As far as underwhelming <oxymoron> men go, Dan Quayle may not have been a "John Kennedy", but he was definitely the VPOTUS.
This" I have to defend her because no one else can" view of PragmaticToAFault is a bit thin.
Pragmatic - great response!
Not Pragmatic,
There is absolutely no relation between Gore, Moore or Palin. Moore is and has always been a film maker not an active politician and Gore has retired from politics to pursue a career as an environmental activist. Mrs. Palin is an active politician who is making money while she can, she resigned as governor so she could do so. There is no evidence that liberal/conservative has anything to do with abortion %, the only defining difference seems to be availability. Many Red States have one, two or three providers in the state and perform fewer abortions but peform double, triple and quadruple the amount per provider. Having and raising down syndrome children shows no political bias the choice is often economic. Alaska an extremely conservative state I believe currently has five providers and around 2000 abortions per year in a sparsely populated state with minimal infrastructure the percentage per provider is high and overall percentage per thousand women somewhat below the national average. The conclusions you draw carry no factual or verifiable justification and are opinion based moralizing over something that you just chose to make up in order to deflect from the lies, distortions and fabrications the governor who quit to make a quick buck spews on an almost daily basis. The governor was parodied for her response to Charles Gibson on September 11th 2008 when she was asked about her international experience vis a vis the Russian invasion of Georgia she replied "Well they're our next door neighbor and you can even see the from Alaska, a small island off our coast." Tina Fey does PARODY not political reporting the same as Clinton, both Bushes, Cheyney, Clinton and Gore have been dozens of times each, all of whom with the exception of Cheyney who has no reaction accepted humor and parody for what it is and did so gracefully. Also having read numerous political biographies I have never seen a political figure mock and villify campaign staff and refuse blame for any of their own actions or statements. These actions are more consistent with Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan not Kay Bailey Hutchins or Hilary Clinton.
JKHayes
Crystal,
Please exlain how she was a Lame Duck. Lame Duck implies you have been defeated and are finishing your term or you are subject to an upcoming term limintation. How do these apply to Mrs. Palin? Please list frivolous lawsuits. She ran up legal bills defending her actions as governor to a Republican Alaska legislature.
JKHayes
Obama quit on the people of Illinois after only a year.
Just My Thoughts,
Perhaps worse, her reply was to a question from Charles Gibson on her foreign policy experience in relation to Russia and its invasion of Georgia to which she replied ,Well we are neighbors and you can even even see them from Alaska, an island off our coast. Ms. Feys PARODY was not far off the mark and unlike McCain, Obama, Biden both Bushes, Cheyney, Clinton and Gore she has come out like a petulent child blaming her embarrasing lack of knowledge on anyone but itself. The questions she was asked by Katie Couric were incredible softballs which would have been answered by any AP gov student.
JKHayes
Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, and Mike Huckabee would all be more qualified than Palin ever could be. (Referencing the MSNBC article) The comparison is not even worth talking about.
Bruce,
Surely you jest! Becoming president to represent the interests of all Americans is the same as quitting to be a celebrity.
JKHayes
Dee; "Her exact words were - "You can see Russia from the shores of Alaska". So you can mince words, but it was still a stupid thing to say!"
At their closest Alaska and Russia are 2.5 miles apart – the distance between Little Diomede Island, Alaska, and Big Diomede Island, Russia.
Both islands are mountain's, so it is easy to see Russia from Alaska. In fact some fools try crossing the ice on foot every year or so and sometimes have to be rescued when the ice breaks up around them.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and leave no doubt.
Sarah is an archetypal mouthpiece for an entire generation of forgotten conservative women who just happen to believe in the principles that created the longest standing democratic republic in the history of mankind.
Underestimating this womans resolve is the same as underestimating the power of conservative women everywhere.
The Obama policy of creating a social welfare state will not last forever. Sooner or later Sarah or another woman just like her will be elected President of the United States and the time for handouts will come to an abrupt end... like Momma throwing drunken Sonny out of the house.
I'm a 45 year old man who voted for Reagan his first trip to the poles and I would love to vote for Sarah Palin in the next election.
And as always...
DEMOCRATS ARE SCUM... EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM WITH THEIR HAND OUT WANTING SOMETHING FOR NOTHING AT SOMEONE ELSE'S EXPENSE.
It has nothing to do with being qualified or not...
The author says that the media should look for compelling stories without judgements (which is what they do all the time).
The voters should decide if she is qualified or not. (As a voter, I think she is not, but she deserves the same opportunity as Ralph Nader or Al Gore.)
Kuddos to the author that tried to be balanced amidst a chaotic media industry that chooses sides all the time.
The author is right. I don't understand either... Why compare her with over qualified men when so many unqualified and average politicians go so far in this world?
Why not, let her go ahead and follow her career in the same God-given opportunity than any men out there?
The media should just cover issues, instead of choosing and bashing.
Choosing and bashing is OUR job!!!! :)
JKH -- There would necessarily be some indirect interaction between the Alaska state government and Russia as to fisheries issues and the integration of the Alaskan Army and Air National Guard into the U.S. Army and Air Force. Technically, as Governor of Alaska, she would be the commander in chief of their national guard. So, it's a guess here, but I'd bet she would recieve briefings on those issues, expecially things like near-incursions by Russian Tu-95's into Alaskan airspace. She also was involved in negotiations with the Canadian government as to a natural gas pipeline. Obviously the direct contact is through the federal State Department. Is it substantial foreign policy experience? I guess that's for the voters to decide and for us to post our opinions about here. Obama's resume of foreign policy experience wasn't much more -- the Illinois state senate and 18 months spent in absentia in the U.S. Senate. As to Tina Fey, it was funny parody indeed, but I don't think it was ever fact checked in the manner that SNL's recent parody of Obama was. As to being an active politician and making money off a book deal, see Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, et al. As to parading Palin's kids before the media, which first occurred nationally at the Republican Convention, Obama's kids were front and center at the Democratic Convention, on the incredibly pompous Greek temple-themed stage. Explain her lack of knowledge -- she might not give the best interview, but that only leads to your and others' inference she has a lack of knowledge. As to another post, the point about fact-checking was that AP devoted 11 writers to fact check Palin's book and AP never did the same as to Obama, Gore, etc. Whether others fact checked Obama's or Gore's books isn't in issue in this thread.
All of this misses the point. The Newsweek cover is an embarassingly biased act. You know it, but won't admit it. You obviously don't like Palin. That is absolutely your prerogative. I want you to have a field day mocking the posters here who like or defend Palin. Knock yourself out. I want you to post how stupid you think those "tea baggers" are. I especially want you to repeat that sexually-offensive phrase as much as you can. Start talking about "astro-turf" and Fox ginning up those protests. Amazing how all those people were duped into doing that, isn't it? And then, in 2010, when your party gets creamed in the midterm elections and loses the House and/or the Senate, keep mocking. You so underestimate those voters as did Corzine in NJ and Deeds in Virginia. You and even I might not agree with them, but they are there and a viable political force, and, guess what, they are onto the fact that people like you mock them and it only galvanizes them more.
Just: Watch her interview with Katie Couric again, she did, infact state that you could see Russia from Alaska, it was her justification for her statement that she had foreign policy experience. Pay attention.
Joe F Las Vegas,
Many have already corrected you about the quote. Sarah did accurately say that you could see Russia from land in Alaska. Some have questioned the intelligence of that comment, all I can say is that she was supporting her belief why foriegn relations with Russia is so important. Close proximity supports that claim. Tina Fey turned that comment around a little, and created the sound bite that many refer to.
My main problem is not if Sarah Palin is qualified or not. I don't know, I'm not sure that Pres. Obama was any more/less qualified. Nor is it the book deal, lots of people have done that.
My main problem is the one sided partisan treatment by the press. Sure, Fox News support conservative issues by the stories they cover and the interviews. But that is nothing compared to the complete buy-in at other media. I site the New York Times, they are so one sided, that I can't really think of them as a useful news source. I keep wondering what motivation might cause them to twist the truth in an article. This pervassive atmosphere atht the Times is not limited to the actual stories: advertising costs & availability have been manipulated and here a case of extreme diligence in fact checking.
I wish that news organization could tell the news without bias, and confine their commentary/opinion to seperate channels.
I like Sarah Palin. I think she's smart, funny, has a fresh perspective, and the professional politicians (and their "handlers" and campaign groupees) should shut up.
bobbyg,
I am a Democrat and my hand is not out. How dare you make such a sweeping generalization? And, I take it you oppose Medicare, Social Security, the VA, education support, public health support, tax credits for mortgages etc. and don't accept any of them yourself? Right?
We are not surprized. To come out in support of anything she says or does would never happen. Anyone critical of Obama and blogs it, will be given a audit by the IRS. Just so you know. That is what they are doing.
open_minded- Are you serious with your argument? Do you have any idea how much money Al Gore has made shoving "Green" down our throats? Don't try to make him into any martyr.
As far as Palin I am a registered (Conservative) Republican and I want this woman to go away as quickly as possible. She will get a big wake up call when/if she tries to run for a seat.
As I recall, she did say something about seeing Russia from Alaska, but Fey said something like you can see Russia "from my backyard." Thus, the parody.
schwannomin
You are so right - they got a microphone and chance to speak on stage at the convention - REMEMBER?
"Anyone critical of Obama will be audited by the IRS"????????? Really?????
Wow. And I thought I had heard it all. So, how many times has Limbaugh, O'
Reilley, Beck, that guy Coulter and all other Fox Opinion Station people been audited? Better put that tin foil hat back on and take your medicine. Of course, Obama is watching you through your computer screen, so be careful what you say.
And for the poster talking about the teabaggers, you write intelligently, so I can assume you know how to do research. Check out "The DCI Group" and then form an opinion on the teabaggers being a grassroots organization.
jim hayes:
"There is no evidence that liberal/conservative has anything to do with abortion"
Should of told that crap to Bob Casey when he was alive, wasn't even allowed to speak at the convention because he was pro-life, yea, the dems are dedicated to pro-death...
arde,
just like the RNC is pro choice since their insurance company CIGNA carried abortion for them since 1991 until T. Steele put an end to it a couple of days ago
:)
Anybody who believes quitting in the middle of a job is not considered a QUITTER is only fooling themselves. I wonder if you think our soldiers should up and quit when the going gets tough. I'm sure your type would not be able to stand the heat. But the rest of the country knows a quitter when they see it. There is NO excuse. Especially that "lame duck" crap. What a crock.
Quite the contrary. The media has considerable credibility with most of the public. It has little to none with the rightwing zealots who prefer the media to be a reinforcement element for their jaded views. So long as roughly 25% of the Republican party and some 15% of the general public gravitate to the extremist rightwing philosophy, FoxNews, National Review, Weekly Standard, New York Post, and all of conservative radio will have circulation and/or audience. Their biases are to be either overlooked or accepted; those with the temerity to present a different context are to be damned ~ by their standards. Even the radical righties agree on this ~ its why the mainstream media remains mainstream and the hard right context is largely self-serving swill.
RC -- I never claimed they were grassroots. One of the points I was attempting to make is that it amazes me that the media and others can get away with using such a derogatory term for them -- grassroots or not. If, for example, the media were to refer to gay activists as "sodomites" I bet there would be a problem. And, yes, I realize that conservatives actually do make that reference and it's every bit as opprobrious and wrong for them to do it. The bigger point I was trying to make was that it might be cute and clever to call them names, but those who do are really underestimating their numbers and/or influence. As to the grassroots thing, let me try to give you an example of why it doesn't matter. As I sit here, I'm opposed to the current health plan as passed in the House. I think some reform is needed, not a radical overhaul. That's my independent opinion. So, if someone from the insurance industry lobby says, "hey, we have a bus going to DC today for a protest," I might choose to go with them. By accepting the bus ride, have I lost my independent opinion? What if I drove up there and joined in the rally? So if Fox, Blue Cross/Blue Shield organizes a rally and people come, do the attendees lose their votes in 2010? What the people who attempt to attack those rallies as not being authentically grass roots are missing is that people are going to them in large numbers. Tell me, are the voters registered by ACORN "grass roots" supporters or was a message provided during their registration? Guess what? It worked and Obama is president, and that's how our system works. Obama's campaign mobilized the newly-registered voters and won. For me to say that was "astroturf" is both meaningless and sour grapes. Don't lose sight that both sides use so-called "astroturf". The SEIU sent goon squads to many rallies and people wearing SEIU-issued T-shirts even beat the you know what out of some poor guy at a rally in St. Louis.
Yes, PragmaticToAFault. You should stop, especially with the personalizing about limits for children and such. You've got a lot to say, but I can't restore 'all-liberals-abort-kids-with-Down's-syndrome' stuff like 1.2.
1.10 restored though.
Okay - it was stupid to say she could see Alaska, just like it was stupid when she said without the stimulus we'd continue to lose 500 million jobs per month and just like when she said she's a catholic and has studied up on abortion and the catholic church is unclear about when life begins.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh., that's right, those last two things were just a couple of intellectual statements made by none other than Ms. 3rd in line for the presidency, speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi.
Whew.....for a minute I thought Sarah Palin was the only female politician that said dumb things.
The idea to get readers attention is to accomplish something first. Then write the book!
open_minded
I do not understand one item of your #1 post. Can you please try using grammar and punctuation?
Michael_64
What makes me laugh is the fact that sooo many people call her dumb and stupid, but yet, her book is a #1 bestseller and every time I log into Newsvine HALF of the posts are about her.
Frankly - Bush Jr is one of those low achievers and Palin deserves a LOT MORE respect that W.
If Sara Palin told the truth and was honest with everyone about what she states in her book, there wouldbe no story her. Unfortunately she lies her ass off, just like she always has and she takes no responsibility for her statements in the past. It's always someone else fault.
Gee, according to many Palin supporters, isn't that what you all claim welfare moms do? Blame someone else instead of taking responsibility?
Karen,
Has it occured to you the reason her book is a #1 is because of all the noise she's been making? I seriously doubt anyone would buy it because they think she's "smart".
You don't have to be smart to make money. Just cruel and indifferent to others.
NHLucky
Yup that's right... won't even file for unemployment... matter of pride.
The VA is an obvious exception and the truly needy too... the census or enumeration test for taxation that was amened out of the constitution was the founding fathers way of forbidding the redistribution of income... the federalist papers show that they actually contemplated a 10% maximum for income taxes but chose not to do it... because the constitution would never be ratified with such an unethical tax included in it(?).
Consensus trance makes us take responsibility for others and feel guilty if we do not do for people what they ought to do for themselves... a guy could make good living if he could induce enough people to just hand over their earnings in the name of social justice (or whatever is the most mesmerizing term you wish to choose) the fact that most of it will be consumed by a bureaucracy and the truly needy will suffer even more because of it doesn't matter to people like you... who will never wake up to the fact that you are being use to aggrandize the Obamas and Hitlers of the world who get themselves elected by make impossible promises and then dictating things like mandatory health care premiums and cap in trade type taxes the generally shrink the wealth of their nations as a whole.
This all began when Jefferson replaced the inalienable right to pursue property with the right to pursue "happiness"... not knowing that people would one day forget that happiness includes the right to property if Aristotle is to be believed.
Conservative is synonymous with old liberal.
A former 2 term president, a former president's wife, lawyer, activist, and US Senator since 2000...and Palin. Yes, apt comparisons.
bobbyg-501939
Sarah is an archetypal mouthpiece for an entire generation of forgotten conservative women who just happen to believe in the principles that created the longest standing democratic republic in the history of mankind.
---------------------------------------
So, what makes Palin Conservative, exactly? Aside from her saying it, which don't make it so, how is she Conservative? Or is that newspeak for quitter and liar?
magster...
The Newsweek photo was originally shot for some fitness magazine. Newsweek's editors derisively chose it for their cover story on Mrs. Palin. A week after putting a cover photo of Al Gore on the cover with a caption "instructing" me that Mr. Gore is "The Thinking Man's Thinking Man", Newsweek specifically chose that photo of Mrs. Palin and "instructs" me that she is my "problem".
I "think" Mr. Gore is a blowhard and I will be "instructing" Newsweek to cancel my subscription to their magazine, which has become a left-leaning rag since it was restructured.
Newsweek will next be lauding Mr. Obama's "boffo" trip to China, which accomplished nothing and perhaps provide a fashion update on Mrs. Obama's latest choice of high-belted pontoon dress.
As to your suggestion of Newsweek similarly choosing to run a cover shot of Ms. Clinton in a pair of jogging shorts and sneakers...well....I'd prefer not to delve into that mental picture, as dinnertime will soon be approaching. The wide-load butt and cankle-topped sneakers would surely serve up some unwanted appetite supression.
certainly, tony, you were equally annoyed when there was the big stink this past Summer when Michelle Obama was wearing - gasp! - shorts of all things! How dare she!
Palin is just another celebrity now, cashing in on her fame. If she can't take being ridiculed or made fun of, stay in Alaska or hide out in college(s) for another 5+ years and work on another degree.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along
Joe F Las Vegas,
Don't drink and blog. She never said that. It was Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live. All this talk about Al Gore and how generous he is with money earned from his movie. It's his own company, idiots!
bobbyg, I disagree with your interpretation of the founding of this country and the intent of the founders. But I salute your willingness to live your beliefs.
But, Palin is an underwhelming woman.
His own company? Does that mean he did not donate proceeds?
All you people are nuts!!! I just got done reading the book (have any of you??) It is as good, if not better than both the Clintons, and light years ahead of that fraud Obamas!!! So what if Palin didn't complete a term as gov!!! What did Obama do before he cheated his way in??? NOTHING!!!
In 2012 she will be a better president than Obama will ever dream of being. Oh, and by the way, if any of you think Obama has a chance to even get elected dog catcher in 2012, I got a bridge to sell you.
Sam,
In answer to your question. No, ripping into Obama's kids would not make you a racist, however it would make you an ignorant weasel considering the fact that Obama's kids are CHILDREN who don't do anything besides go to school, how can you possibly rip into that?
The only Palin kid that has been ripped into is the oldest one and yes when Obama's daughter turns 17 and gets pregnant out of wedlock to a complete loser who does nothing but shame their family, then I will be the first one to roll out the red carpet for you to begin ripping.
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with Palin's daughter because underage girls get pregnant all the time, but her status as a politician does not make the Palin family different from any other family, if the 17 year old daughter gets pregnant and has a baby by a loser people are going to talk.
SDU, put the pipe down, you've had enough.
I agree kids are off limits period.
Even teenagers who make awful mistakes. During the election someone asked why Sarah couldn't control her own daughter... as if a teenager could be "controlled".
Amazing
HA! Whitakar or whatever his name is works for NBC. Go figure. Do I need to explain it to you liberal Palin haters?
say steven,
"stupid" is going to make millions, how much do you make for being stupid?
Floyd, nobody has to be liberal to dislike Palin. She quit her job to collect on this book deal and has been proven to be a liar. Additionally, the only reason any of us here even know the woman's name is because she was picked by McCain to run with him as his VP, and now apparently she is biting the hand that brought her to this level. Yes, quite the 'conservative' woman there.
Pragmatic et al:
We just love opening up your "condemned" comments and voting them to the top of the list, regardless. You go, friend.
My favorite line from the news article:
"It's a free country and she's entitled to the same First Amendment rights that protect members of the press."
Didn't O's camp do away with Freedom of Press early-on in his incumbency? Why yes, I believe that they did.
I hate to break it to Fail-in... I mean Palin, but the race is over. You lost. STFU. We didn't need another 4 years of Epic Fail Policies or having Dan Quail V. 3.0 in the VP Office. (President George "Dubbya" Bush was Dan Quail V. 2.0)
You got a special needs kid? Big Whoop. I give you some props. The same amount I give any parent that has one. Other than that, you are nothing special. Period.
Funny bit was I was Republican till 2005.... Thank ya Bush for showing me the errors of my ways!.... Oh wait, I am INDEPENDANT and vote using my brain... nevermind...
Do me a big favor Sarah Fail-in...woops... Palin... Go DIAF.
"cheated his way in" are you high on crack??? it was a pretty resounding victory. when did the conservatives become such whiners. secondly, if alaska was a city, it would be between charlotte and memphis population wise. And is much smaller than Rhode island
this could not be any funnier and entertaining the spectacle of sarah palin. No ones afraid of her, it's like a train wreck and she's trapped in the sleeping car.
did you see the line waiting for a book signing, most of them will be dead by 2012. The pale white was so bright in the line i had to put my sunglasses on to watch ............ ha
go sarah ................... i love it ....................
the Republicans are a done party, very few new members with America becoming a much bigger melting pot than it ever was in the past. They (Republicans) are trying to stop this but they can't, it's called breeding. And minorities (at the moment) have probably 3 kids to every white families 1 kid.
by the way, i'm white and 60, but i have a good tan ...............
but i think it's ok to make all the money you can when you can as a retired salesman, i did and so can she. But of course i would never vote for her because her views are not my views.
if her views are your views, then by all means vote for her if she runs.
g
NHLucky you can disagree w/ bobbyg's "interpretation" all you want....you would also have to disagree that the sun rises in the east....
There is no "interpretation".....what he posted was FACT..
If you disagree w/ the principles this country was founded on, you can, that's your right as a citizen of the country those men founded....
But there is no "interpretation" of FACTS.....
I can see Russia from alaska is stupid. I can see poverty, the North Korean Army, bleeding in surgery. It must not really happen.
If no one's afraid of her, JiG, then why so much effort to destroy her?
Let me see if I have this right. A community organizer who has no executive experience whatever is qualified and the governor of the biggest state in the union is not? What kind of twisted logic is that? Liberal logic. What a joke.
I don't believe anybody is afraid of her, much like nobody is afraid of Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears, but they (people, the media) are fascinated with her for much the same reason. You never quite know what she is going to do or say next, and for the media, the formula they follow is a simple: will this sell?
She's a soap opera, a drama queen.
Landmass has something to do with a leader's abilities? Then China, Russia, and Canada are all superior to the United States.
You're full of sh.t. She did the right thing leaving Alaska, and the media, including yourself, still can't leave her alone. Left Wing Sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome is what it's called. Everyone is scared @!$%# of her, including the Republicans. She'll be a hero and a viable candidate if she chooses. the media can't take the fact she can out draw the empty-suited president, who put his country in harms way.
The island of Little Diomede, Alaska is hardly 2 miles away from Big Diomede Russia-------SO YOU CAN SEE RUSSIA FROM ALASKA.
Please, David, she's a media ho. She went on Oprah, nobody forced her. She 'wrote' her book, nodoby forced her, and the more publicity the better. Is that a difficult concept for you regarding marketing and making money? And she is in it, right now, strictly for the money. She keeps throwing her self and her opinions out there, so she is a target, whether you like or dislike her, similar to other celebrities.
But to blame others for the woes of poor Sarah seems to be a common theme.
I dunno, could it be because SHE (and the rest of the right wing nuts) are so quick to judge all of US (I mean us not so "real" Americans). Its funny how conservatives give a pass to one of their own, at the same time they bash everyone else about the same things. Makes me mad.
Lookit,
Um. I thought income tax came in the early 20th century. There is a certain group of Constitution quoters who seem to THINK they know the so-called facts. In reality, the Constitution is a compromise document left intentionally vague so that it could grow and adjust with the times. Just for starters, slavery is protected in several places. It's kind of like taking the Bible literally. You can take it as fact if you like. I prefer to be a little more flexible.
Look, you would not care or know who she is if it wasn't for the election, you know Americans are just so INVOLVED in politics- that's complete bull@!$%#- Americans will feed off what ever is thrown under their noses. You would think Adults weren't victims of "POP" culture, not so- and this book- the campaigns are a testament to this fact. Think for a second- if Sarah wasn't on T.V. and a poster child for whatever cause or militia group desperate for victory- most people would resume feeding off something else. No? YES.
She didn't like McCain, didn't like Bush, doesn't like Obama- she has YET admit to using them and being just like the rest of whores and entertainment industry types who will do anything to stay on top, its about SARAH, but she's different, why? well Jesus and the retarded child made her more special than porn stars and dance acts.
It be interesting to be inside the head of some these "real" people who plan on making themselves look good for the camera and the public- Oprah has made it so being "real" and "caring" are T.V. special acts- in the end- its entertainment and with a little skill and temperment, they can convince anybody on the power of their substance. I bet they have their own personal soundtracks playing as they live in the daily activites.
Whoever wrote this article is a hypocrite. First, the article states that: those in the media that say Palin isn't fit to be a presidential candidate is ridiculous. Thus, the person in this article is saying that Palin in fact is qualified.
But then later in the article the author says "Is she qualified to be President? Well that is for the voters to decide and not the media."
Well that contradicts your earlier argument.
I don't know why conservatives are so up in arms about the scrutiny this book and this person are getting .... she has titled the book sensationalistically, she had thrown her hat once again into the public forum AND she is getting paid a huge sum. The AP, and any news agency, as well as WE THE PEOPLE have every right AND the responsibility to not only fact check, but call her on her gaffs. The main point in all this is that Palin is a quitter .... whether it was solely her decision, or one that was made with some discernment involved, the fact is -- The people of Alaska elected her to be their governor. She put that responsibility "on hold" while running with McCain. Then she ups and quits before her term of elected office was completed. She has proven numerous times that she is irresponsible. The best thing we all can do is simply ignore this book and maybe, just maybe the woman herself will fade into obscurity ... we can still hope, right?
She is a loser a liar and just down right not as great as she thinks she is. Why do we have to deal with this woman again?
NHL "In reality, the Constitution is a compromise document left intentionally vague so that it could grow and adjust with the times."
You need to go read it (again, if you've not read it since a liberal professor told you what it said).
"empty-suited president, who put his country in harms way".
Just a guess but that would be Bush, right?
Sure, right after I brush up on the dietary restrictions in Leviticus. Busy, busy, busy.
arde,
Perhaps I was not clear, what I am stating is that their is little to no data on the political affiliation of those having abortions and that the incidence of abortions relative to providers in conservative states show little if any difference with more liberal ones. My statement has nothing to do with which party supports abortion rights.
JKHayes
Tampalawyer,
I don't even know where to start half of your reply has nothing to do with anything I said. Mrs Palin in her year as governor spent a total of less than an hour greeting two Russian trade delegations and was not involved with any meetings with Russian oil or gas delegations. Governors have NO tactical control of dispatching planes or troops to deal with foreign incursions and no governors are not briefed on the activity of foreign militaries and no there were no Russian incursions into Alaskan airspace in decades according to both NORAD and the US airforce. I have never posted using any of the terms you refer to, I find some carry too much sexual innuendo and are offensive. As to being grass roots, if you are assembled and bussed by a lobbying outfit only to events where FOX cameras happen to be the degree of spontaneous coincidence stretches credulity, the same as if Move On bussed me to protest at a Rick Santorem prsentation. I said nothing of her children or their campaigning. She is marginally educated and has the experienceof a small town mayor who never had a passport, has no background in law, policy or government had no idea as to the Constitutional responsibilities of the Vice President and whether she had ever entirely read or comprehended the Constitution remains in doubt.
JKHayes
JKH, she served as governor for more than the time you state. The 9/12 protest in D.C. was grassroots by your definitions. We rented buses and paid for them out of our own individual pockets. Fox News was downtown filming as well as CNN and some others. One thing, if only Fox News had the sense to show up, and the others persisted in an Obama induced embargo, that would not speak to the validity or the grassroots nature any more than it would speak to their desire to protect their Chosen One from any negative portrayal.
Specifically what leads you to make the charge that she had no idea as to the Constitutional responsibilities of the Vice President? Or worse, what gives you the right to the claims that she is "marginally" educated or that she never read or comprehended the Constitution?
Lots of claims, and probably about as valid as you unfactual statement that she was governor for a year
Get over yourself. Since when did Sarah Palin do anything good for this country except dish out more self-serving hyppocracy?
At least both Gore and Moore revealed the consumer consumption is both destructive to our environment and our political system. It's up to you to get off the thumb your sitting on and make that change. Clearly they couldn't get wealthy if it wasn't something nobody wanted to hear. Whereas Palin has served out cliches and rhetoric that only backs up the ideology of a minority fringe in society.
Limbough and company are probably the only individuals who have made off with millions spouting neo-nazi agendas and blaming everyone but themselves for their rhetoric and behaviour. Palin falls in line with the fringe because she hasn't anything to offer this country except selfishness.
Here is a prime example how the media can elevate a person into the limelite simply by providing the person with an outlet on National TV to promote a book about a failed campaign. Joh McCain is a great person and American! I would have agreed to get Hillary on the Republican ticket as a VP if I though he had a chance to become President. However, he reached out in the wrong direction. Palin is a nice looking woman and outspoken but she lacks savvy to compete in the political arena. With such a nice family and husband that seems to standby her no matter what, there would be no amount of money in the world worth exposing your family to the situations she has. Palin will soon fade from the spotlight and her book will join the rest of the books in the store in gathering dust. It will never be used to teach Political Science or Political Correctness in any college course. These are reserved for the true scholars If she stepped down from her job as Governor of Alaska for the chance to earn millions from a book that bashes the campaing of a great American like McCain, what extent would she go to get elected to President? (not going to happen)
TampaLawyer, there is nothing that wrong with the Newsweek cover, in my humble opinion, that is. The photo was in the public domain, which she herself signed off on. If she didn't take the time to read the release for the photo before signing it, then that is her mistake. She has chosen as the title her for her book "Going Rogue" -- I find it rather wryly witty that Newsweek has taken that, employed parallelism with another phrase (going commando) to create a cover that has everyone in this country talking. It was sexy while not showing any real skin, it sold magazines, and had it been used by the GOP first, would have made a great political poster.
Anything for a buck. It's this trailer trashes 15 min of fame before everyone forgets her name. Going for the Buck might be a better title
sdu
Watching network news this evening, they did a story about Palin in Michigan and how they lined up for HOURS to get their book signed.
MANY MANY MANY of those there were ready to vote for her in 2012.
No matter what, considering the coverage on Newsvine alone, this woman KNOWS how to play the media.
Sparky,
Not just once but on numerous occasions Mrs. Palin stated that as part of her responsibility as vice president and LEADER of the Senate October 23rd to second graders"She was going to get right in there to set policy", The vice president is not the leader cannot propose and does not work with either house, the vice president braeks 50-50 ties thats it on a practical basis all other duties are ceremonial. Monday September 28th on camera interview on MSNBC she could not answer what she thought her responsibliities would be as VP because no one had told her yet. She also complained ad nauseum about the Supreme Court making law and when asked even after the Couric interview she could not name ONE Supreme Court decision. She was sworn in in 2007 and ran for vice president in 2008, I was speaking as to her qualifications to be 1st in line to the president, I guess I should have said a year and one half I am sure the extra six months qualified her. As to Fox cameras I was referring to the town hall meetings where national FOX feeds were immediately available to listen to bussed in screamers who were not even represented by the speaker shout down discourse. It was reminicent of Bund protests in the 30s.
JKHayes
Microsoft sucks,
You criticize hypocrisy and then laud Al Gore and Michael Moore?
Al Gore believes in saving the planet by curbing wasteful CO2 production. Why does he fly private everywhere he goes, has 3 houses (2 of which are empty) and drives in a gas guzzler? If security is the reason, then there are alternatives which are secure. It seems that if he believed it, really believed it he would be practicing what he preaches. He does not.
Michael Mooreis a rich movie producer, director, filmer who has gotten rich selling his films. He has used capitalism to earn his money. Yet he says capitalism is failed and bad. He succeeds using something that he says is failed and bad. And then he dresses down, in order to fool people that he's an "ordinary Joe". He takes all human failings (greed, theft, waste, basically the 7 deadly sins) and lays it at the feet of capitalism. No! It's at the feet of people. Capitalism has no worse record of corruption, waste, pollution than socialism/communism/dictatorships.
These 2 are the very pinnacle of hypocrisy!
JKH, you skipped the part about "marginally educated." Poor choice of words? You remain wrong about the Town Hall meetings. The only people who were proven to have been bused in were the health care reform supporters, who had commercially made and identical signs, and are the only ones who beat up someone at a Town Hall meeting. Again, that the MSM tried to avoid the issue and did not have cameras rolling, speaks more to their desire to protect the Chosen One than to their role in keeping us informed. Fox did a good job.
If what you say is the only VP duty with congress is true, explain why Biden has gone to talk to the leaders countless times?
You say "Monday September 28th on camera interview on MSNBC she could not answer what she thought her responsibliities would be as VP because no one had told her yet." Is that exactly what she said, that no one had told her yet, or is that simply the journalist in you, putting words in people's mouths?
You say "She also complained ad nauseum about the Supreme Court making law and when asked even after the Couric interview she could not name ONE Supreme Court decision." Once again, your perspective. Another perspective would be that she did not wish to get into it at the time. A famous example of the Supreme Court making law would be Roe V Wade and the subsequent ruling that took away state's rights - the LAW of the land. Sarah is very familiar with that and could have brought it up, but the time was not right. Some things you just don't answer.
You need to get your facts straight, she was elected in November of 2006, and sworn in on Dec. 4th 2006, and resigned office July 26, 2009. Even that is more than your "year and a half." She was the first female governor of Alaska, and also the youngest to ever be elected. You hate her, but not for apparently substantive reasons.
Sparky
Sparky type the date and Palin interview in it was with on CNBC with Larry Kudlow who was trying to softball her and prompt her and they are her exact words. As you well know I was speaking of the governors time of service prior to running for National Office was 18 to 19 months prior to that she was the mayor of a town of 7,000. My town has 51,000 and no one in government would have the hubris to think themselve qualified to be Pesident of the United States. As to being marginally educated a series of five colleges in six years four of which had open enrolement and the 5th the University of Idaho at Moscow accepted he as a transfer without SATs or any other qualification it is still a third tier school with a rather insubstantial list of graduates who have left a footprint in society or academia. Attending a series of open enrollement colleges listing three majors being in no activities or organizations, being remembered by no faculty, advisors or staff at any of the institutions is apedestrian education at best and hardly is great preparation to be the understudy for the most important and complex job in the world. As to Supreme Court decisions she NEVER articulated any cogent understanding as to the basis for Roe v Wade only that she didn't like the results. She NEVER has explained the decision and why it should no be a fourteenth amendment issue only that it was wrong. She also stated there were SEVERAL other decisions she thought incorrect and activist and could not name one and never has.
I do not hate her I couldn't care less about her. I do find the divisiveness, hatred, homophobia, racism, classism and religious fundamentalism she engenders to be offensive but no more so than dozens of other political figures, militia leaders, Army of God types, Mullahs and Dobson types who seek to advance their radical agendas at great cost to the rest of us. I find the likes of Rick Santorem and his enablers far more offensive but Mrs. Palin like Lindsay Lohan manages to stay in the national consciousness no matter how idiotic her behavior.
I have attended campaign rallies sinceI saw JFK at Lawrence Park Shopping Center in Broomall Pa. and have seen every presidential candidate including, Gene McCarthy, John Anderson, George Wallace and many of the VPs as well if they were at all interesting or available. The two Palin rallies I attended made Wallace rallies look like garden club meetings. The warm up speakers referred continually to Obama as Hussein, she and the speakers questioned his citizenship, patriotism, spoke of Bill Ayers ad nauseum, questioned Obamas religion and implied affiliation with radical muslim groups. I hope never to be in such a group again it made my skin crawl. I just hope she takes her money and has a great life with her family but a person with her prejudices and lack of qualification has no business having such a profound effect over so much potential violence and disruption.
JKHayes
If I were her I would be making my millions while I could, on a personal level I find the entire mess amusing, and as long as she keeps opening her mouth and letting stupid pour out, I will keep laughing.
This book is already on sale... they are $4.99 with 4 Newmax magazines included. By Christmas they will be recycled. "Going Green"
Republican strategy: Get a pretty face to spout ugly ideology, like Palin, Prejean and Bachman. Next, Jenna Jamison will find God and spout insane GOP rhetoric for the mindless masses who will eat it up and beg for more.
Beauty fades, but Stupid is forever.
Stupid is what fits your silly comment. You are so far away from the original question that I think you have a true recto-cranial inversion.
Sarah Palin's every move is micro-analyzed by the press for opportunities to attack. How dare this woman be: A) a Republican, B) not a feminist, C) real and not a phony politician and D) failing to support abortion. If Palin was to slip up, and do something really outrageous, like accidentally fart, IT WOULD BE FRONT PAGE NEWS IN THE NEW YORK TIMES !!!
Jim, I will admit I have no use for Sarah Palin, but my feeling is that if she is the best example of a Modern Conservative Woman, the party is in worse shape than I ever though. I know and am friends with several good women that would be better role models straight off the street.
Sorry, Jim, but Palin keeps putting herself in the spotlight...what better way to sell books? There's no such thing as bad publicity, right? She is cashing in and getting paid. Some estimate her book deal to be between 7 and 11 million. Not bad at all.
Is getting paid a Conservative ideal?
Would someone be kind enough to point out a lie that Sarah told. I can't think of any.
Russia can be seen from Alaska... I always knew that... must have learned it in grade school... thought it was common knowledge.
Just one lie is all I'm asking for in return for... shall we say... EVERY word out of Obamas mouth.
Here ya go:
LINK
Oh, and let me warm up your argument for discounting that article: It's a liberal rag. Spot on.
Jim, do you really need an explanation as to why Palin is bashed so much?
It's the same exact reason most Conservatives end up getting bashed. Because Conservatives LOVE to stand up and tell everyone else how to run their life. (Ironic because the Conservative "Bible-belt" party is based on the Christian religion, which specifically says not to judge others . . . but they just ignore that part) And then it comes to light that these EXACT same Conservatives can not even follow their own "morals".
If Palin NEVER used "family values" as her platform, then people would not have been as shocked to learn that she completely FAILED to maintain these "values" in her own household. But this hypocrisy is a proud Conservative tradition. Just ask Rush, Prejean, and the countless others.
How about Obama's lies? I'm not saying they aren't out there, a politician is a politician after all, and if they aren't lying they aren't talking, but seeing how he isn't out of office yet, (hasn't even been in office for 1 year) are you sure you aren't mistaking lie with as yet unfulfilled campaign promise?
If a President was supposed to accomplish everything in a single year (or less), why even have a 4 year term?
She has more brains than you'll ever have, just by the nature of your liberal post.
Good argument, David. But really, did you need to strain and use all those other words when all you needed to do was type 'liberal' to have gotten your point across?
After all, everybody is aware that liberal really means baby-eating satanist.
Umm. bobbyg, how about "death panels" for a start on the lie question.
Pathetic choice, NHL. That wasn't a lie, it was an observation of what will happen if we get a public option and our economy continues to tank.
If you want lies, listen to the Chosen One. He said he would run on public funds (until the moment that McCain signed the papers - and then he "changed his mind.") How about the lie that he was not for a single payer health care program, yet there he is on video telling an SEIU audience that he is for a single payer system. Those are lies, a "death panel" is an observation of the large openings that are in the Health Care Reform Bill, despite it being 2,000 pages long.
Sparky, saying that the government will have death panels that will decide to kill old people is a LIE. You don't help yourself by denying what is plain to anybody with half a brain.
NHL quit with the silly high school put-downs. In the news today is the White House attacking critics of the government panel that just came out saying women 40-49 should no longer get breast cancer exams because it does not save enough lives to be worthwhile. Notice that the White House defends this position, saying that no insurance companies will take it to heart anyway, it is simply a "recommendation." That sir ought to wake you up to your apparent blindness. Sarah was also talking about other people making decisions as to what procedures were allowable for a down syndrome child's "quality of life," Certainly this is exposed by this breast cancer screening back-tracking. It saves lives, but apparently not enough to be "useful." It is not a LIE, and even if I only had half a brain, it would be about 100% more effective than what your paltry brains cells can produce.
What? No comment on Barrak's lies?
You know what, Sparky? You're not worth bothering with. Identifying practices that are effective is a far cry from scaring old people for political gain.
And it's Ma'am.
Sparky, there are a lot more lies beyond the disgustingly exaggerated scare tactic of death panels. Are you just ignoring them or have you not gone to the site that lists the undeniable lies of Palin, such as the 'Bridge to Nowhere'.
Additionally, politician's are constantly engaged in a game of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours', and they have to, to get the votes required to turn a bill into law, make compromises. That is, so far, what Obama is doing.
The difference between Obama and Palin? One is the President of the United States doing what he can to get things done (whether or not you think it right), to move around obstacles thrown up by political opponents; the other lied to try to fool people into believing she was something she wasn't.
It wasn't a lie? Then we have death panels. Interesting. Where are they? Who is a member of these death panels? What exactly do they do? Does their stationary actually say from the office of the Death Panel?
Yes, of course we have Death Panels, they are called Insurance Companies. That's what you meant, right? Don't they decide who will and will not get coverage? Don't they decide what they will and will not pay for? Sounds like a lot of control there, exactly what a Death Panel would be like.
NHL & Cassidy, so you are dismissing Obama's lies, all the while avoiding the actual truth behind what you call "death panels." What was being said is that the government will have panels that will determine which treatments are effective and which aren't. Today we have a "shining" example of exactly what Sarah Palin was describing, and rather than investigate it, you just say "Sparky you are not worth bothering with." Classic. So sorry to burst your bubble with facts, Ma'am. You guys can go whine all night about Sarah Palin, but when you start saying that your detractors only have half a brain, and then they stuff your lies right back down your own throat, all you can do is whine.
Obama lies, granny dies. Heck, he thinks cutting 500 billion out of medicare helps older people? That it won't pressure the public option to ration some care? You honestly believe that?
Cassidy, I just put one right in front of your face. A government panel has decided to recommend that women between 40 and 49 not get breast cancer exams. If the current health reform gets into law, they will be obliged to honor this "recommendation" and all those women who develop breast cancer prior to age 50, and who are forced to go with the public option, will have advanced cancer by the time it is discovered. Tell those dying women that it was not a "death panel." Call it whatever you wish, the results will be the same.
Fair enough, Sparky. I'm not clear on all the in's and out's regarding this health bill. What I do know is that the 'death panels' have been in existence for some time now and are the insurance companies. There is no denying that.
And I'm not clear how no breast examinations = death panel. Will it eventually lead to that? Perhaps. Will it be worse than the system we currently have? Unlikely.
But what exactly did Obama lie about? And what does that have to do with the many lies Palin has been caught in?
Obama said that if we passed the stimulus bill, the unemployment rate would top out at about 8%. It is now over 10%. Obama said emphatically he wouldn't use signing statements to get around a bill, yet he used his first one to get around an omnibus bill in March. Obama said he would run his presidential campaign on public funds as McCain said he was going to do. Obama said he was against a single payer option, and yet Fox found a video of him campaigning at an SEIU gathering, saying that he was for a single payer option. Obama tried to distance himself from ACORN, pretending he wasn't aware of what they had been doing, but while a community organizer and later as a lawyer, he was closely involved with them. I'm sure there are more. I like that he supported getting rid of vouchers in D.C. that have been successful in educating some who's only other choice was a failing school, but sends his kids to private schools. This is no reason to hate the man, but what about trust?
Sparky,
Like many skewed posts you are reporting events as a scare tactic. More Michelle Bachmann hysteria and hyperboly. The report states that forty to fifty year old mammograms statistically have risks that may outweigh value. More extensive research has been done by the Australian government showing that prior to 50 they lead to more masectomies, radiation and chemo treatments for false positives and misdiagnosis than actual cancer tratment. Further the report is not a mandate it is a non binding guideline and does not in any way restirict patient access prior to age 50 it is informational only. You and many like you deliberately present information as policy and reports as law, it is entirely disingenuous and all of your ilk should be ashamed.
JKHayes
Ahh JKH, me and my "ilk." You divine my intent. We all enjoy mind readers. More please. Use that talent!
What are the "risks that MAY outweigh value" to any woman under 50 that got their cancer detected in it's early stages because they had breast cancer screenings prior to age 50? False readings from mammograms do not lead to unnecessary masectomies or radiation and chemo. A false reading from a mammogram leads to a biopsy to determine if the mass is cancerous. If detected early enough, a lumpectomy can suffice. Again, the operative word is "early detection." I never said the panel's "recommendation" was binding, but it will carry more weight with a public option, as the government tried to contain cost. So, don't put words in my mough the way you put words in Sarah's mouth. Your ilk does that a lot.
Sparky,
Your ilk are those who spread half truths and publish only the parts of data that support their position. You again provide partial information, mammograms are used for both screening and diagnosis along with family history, prior cancer history, the existence of atypical hyperplasia and numerous other diagnostic tools. No a biopsy is not the only tool and a negative needle biopsy does not rule out cancer it can only confirm it. What this and almost every other study tell you is that thousands of women will be subjected to biopsies and a variety of both non invasive and invasive testing which may not statistically decrease the detection of breast cancers in women prior to age fifty. prior to age 30 1 in 229 women will get breast cancer when should detection start, I don't know but some guideline for all cancer detection is made relative to rates of detection and success of treatment and five year survival rates. Reducing complex difficult decisions into scare tactic sound bites and disingenous postins is exactly what the Hannity's, Beck's and Sparky's of the world do.
JKHayes
If she's your best example of a modern conservative woman then the GOP really is screwed!
Thanks Microsoft sucks.....love your nick as well.
So, just because this country has had mediocre presidents in the past, the voters should not just accept, but seek out another one? Well, this one would certainly be entertaining.
One potato, two potato, three potato, four....
Rettop...
The country just did exactly that, based on the performance of the current officeholder.
Obama has been in office less than 1 year. He inherited a completely fked up situation.
He wanted it, he got it.
And is doing so well with it.
Surely you jest!
Agreed, he should have fixed all the things the previous administration took 8 years to fck in less than 1. No doubt. What is taking so long? None of these are major issues like the economy, housing, jobs, corporations too big to fail, the environment, health care, energy and the like. Seriously, I wish he would stop fckin slackin.
Cassidy, I think it is kind of superficial of you and the Obama administration to try to blame everything bad on the previous administration, and nothing good. One thing for sure, after 9/11 Bush kept us safe here at home from extremist Muslim terrorism. After Fort Hood, I guess we can't say that about Obama. Obama is making what I think are fundamental mistakes, like looking at terrorism as a criminal act for the courts to address rather than an enemy bent on our distruction. I think if we get health care reform with a public option, given to all who want it and those who don't, and tax and jail those who refuse, that much more than a little rationing will take place. The government should first go show us that it can reap 50 billion a year from waste and fraud in Medicare. Prove it rather than just say it. Once in place, where is the incentive to do so? Heck all we have to do is increase taxes on the "rich" and tax and jail those who don't toe the line. Sounds wonderful for a free country. Wonder if New Hampshire will be forced to change their license plate motto?
Paliin's going nowhere is what can accurately be called a pipe dream. It is good that she keeps the republican party divided by causing multiple internal splits within the party.
Mark Whitaker is clearly a douchebag. People are drawn to this woman because she re-redefines the image of a strong woman. Liberals hate that sh*t. For some reason they believe that they own the definition of a strong woman; so they attack with unprecedented malice and unquantifiable resources. They hate everything she stands for and everything that she represents, just as they hate Michelle Bachman. This article is of no surprise; I mean, the AP dedicated 11 journalists to fact-checking the book prior to its release. Democrats, such as Obama, the Clintons, Biden and Kennedy did not receive anywhere close to this kind of scrutiny. At the same time, neither did republicans like Gingrich or Julianni. The liberal media and many many many posters on this thread absolutely abhor this woman and I love it. I would love to see a reliable pole comprised strictly of republicans or right leaning citizens showing what ideology they want running the party. Strong conservative principles (Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Sessions, Cornyn, Boener, Cantor, Kyle, Pawlenty, Romney etc...) or the weak ass, zero principled fools gallivanting around trying to redefine conservatism (David Brooks, David Frum, Scarborough, Graham, McCain, Snowe, Collins, Powell...). It would be a landslide; true conservatism is on the ascendency and the drones despise and fear those who represent that upheaval.
How soon will it be that "Going Rogue" ends up in the unsold $0.99 book pile?
To JQ:
If those people represent what you call true conservatism I think the future will be very dark for the republican party. I think if you polled the country(Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Sessions, Cornyn, Boener, Cantor, Kyle, Pawlenty, Romney etc...) would not do to well. But what do I know, good luck with that.
JQ-- "[T]hey" [liberals to you--educated, thinking people to me] attack [Palin] with unprecedented malice and unquantifiable resources" because the very idea of such an unsophisticated, ignorant, self-serving hick becoming president of the United States is so offensive.
Some of my friends are rural conservatives, working-class voters, rednecks--whatever you want to call them. Fortunately, I think they can look into a mirror and say that they are not suitable presidential material. Palin cannot do the same. . .
in primaries and in southern and plains state districts.
Interestingly, the two successes you guys had (NJ & VA) ran on the economy rather than on social issues and ignored Sarah Palin. The one candidate that followed Sarah's lead and ran on social issues (NY-23) lost a district that was Republican for 140 years.
Schwannomin -
You liberals are way too quick to shrug off the New Jersey governor election. Remember, Chris Dagget, a socially liberal individual, stepped in as a third party candidate and attempted to disrupt the election. He received a very minute percentage of the vote in a decidedly blue, and consequentially bankrupt state. Christy won despite the odds. In the 23rd district Hoffman, another third party candidate who entered the race three months before the election came within a few thousand votes of taking the congressional seat without the support or funds from the Republican party (who supported a liberal, not a moderate candidate). Now feel free to interpret those results however you choose, but I wouldn't gloat too much, the next election is only a year away.
econaut -
Educated? Please, you give yourself and your contingent of drones entirely too much credit. Real intellect involves thinking for yourself and I'm afraid that is characteristic you seem to be devoid of, judging strictly from your post of course.
not over yet....why are you concerned then about Sarah? Be very afraid!
Afraid of Sarah? Bring it on!
everyone should be afraid of her....she's a nut
We are not afraid of Sarah - we are afraid of people like you who would vote for Sarah. Remember, you elected Bush - twice! That's scary!
you elected Bush - twice! That's scary!
yea, if had elected gore we could have avoided this stupidity rush we've been in for the past 11 months and destroyed the economy much sooner..
What's scary RC, is your inability to come up with anything more substantial than the "they elected Bush twice" comment you've left twenty times. It seems you are not entirely fond of our previous president and that fact has been made clear. I would suggest finding an obscure blog or possibly dedicating some time to listen to Olberman or Matthews or Press or someone of that nature and jotting down a few liberal talking points so you are able to expand beyond the confines of the "they elected Bush - twice, that's scary" comment of which you are so fond. Unfortunately, even they are inhibited by their lack logic and reasoning, a common symptom of liberalism, but I'm sure they can provide you with at least one more comment with which to inundate Newsvine.
See, I demonstrated my ability to be bipartisan by offering a suggestion meant to help with the all-too-common problem of a liberal struggling with original and relevant thought; I think I should be commended, it was tough getting past my disdain for stupidity.
JQ: The fact that you personally attack my education level and ability to think based on one short post that states the obvious (yes, my opinion) is a clear indication you have the problem with reasoning.
Well, I didn't mean to attack your personal education level. There are many stupid people who have attained high levels of education and many highly intelligent people who didn't graduate high school. I still say you should go to college. That being said, a high education level does not always result in the ability to critically think and that is really where our paths diverge. You have concluded that based on the sound of a person's voice and the place of their residence they are somehow intellectually inferior to you. However, in the event that some redneck hick farmer or rancher agrees with you politically, well then they're special. They have been painted with the brush of enlightenment, like Jimmy Carter for instance. Do not give yourself too much credit my friend; pride cometh before the fall (I know, I used a bible excerpt, how hickish).
JQ: Not to beat a dead horse here but. . . I have not judged Palin or anyone else by accent or locale. I judge her by the content of her responses or the lack thereof. Nor did I ever state that I was superior to Palin or anyone else. I simply said she was not presidential material. Plenty of conservatives agree with me on that conclusion. I do not even regard her shortcomings as an issue of politics but rather one of education, experience, and personal attributes.
JQ: I find it amusing that you quote the Bible, yet follow most conservative in completely ignoring the Bible when it comes to judging others. It is very commendable that you only use scripture when it suits your purpose.
Thoughts from Cali (somewhat of an oxymoron),
I find it amusing when liberals from California attempt to lecture me about anything. It's hard for me to take seriously any words emitted from an area and a demographic of the country that is wholly committed to slitting their own throats and taking the rest of us down with them. I would hardly consider myself the consummate Christian. I did not realize that the context with which I used the scripture would illicit an accusation of judgement. It must be the fact that I have some degree of skill in reading and writing comprehension. I'm not being egotistical; really, to comprehend the meaning behind my quotation you need nothing more than a high school diploma, if that. I'll tell you now, I do not follow the bible in all that I do in life; however, if I did, that hardly renders me unable to debate the merits of Sarah Palin or the ascendency of conservatism.
Simply put, she is a huge draw for the conservatives. She has great potential to really drum up support for the party at fund raisers and speaking engagements. That said that's as far as she goes. We had 8 years of average intelligence ,at best, leadership. The American people will never elect someone with such limited intelligence and vindictive behavior. At least Bush knew to keep his mouth shut and not burn all the bridges behind him.
Um, well, Bush SOMETIMES kept his mouth shut. He didn't earn the "Alfred E. Newman" tag JUST because he looked like him. I'll concede that over the last 2 decades, we could have done better with leadership. My parents always told me that picking a polotical party was less important than voting for someone because of what they might be willing to do for the country as a whole. Last eleection, I kept an open mind, then....as soon as Palin opened her mouth I told myself, "well, time for the first Black president".
Seriously, she is hot though.
Well, Mr. Frost, how do you feel about Obama now? Seems he can't comprehensively put a sentence together without a teleprompter. How's that change working for you?
For the sake of argument, no republican should ever criticize Obama for his speaking abilities after what Bush has said. I would rather my politicians take time to get out a thought than to blather whatever idiotic thing goes through their mind. Obama thinks first and speaks second, no so with Bush who lacked that filter.
Yeah, like when he said" I don't know the facts,,,but the police acted stupidly". LOL
DUDE-770548- Actually yes we have every right to criticize Obama after the years of non-stop from the left.
They did.
Mr. Frost...
I think that if you dropped your hostility and took a very close look...Mr. Obama's round face and jug ears actually compare a lot more favorably to Alfred E. Newman than Mr. Bush could ever have hoped for.
You clowns should be afraid of that racist and his wife that are currently in office now.
Yes, Obama is a racist. Being half white and half black, he frequently kicks the sh*t out of himself, calling himself honky, cracker, n*gger and spook the whole time.
We would be much better off with Palin. She is such a worldly, educated, responsible leader...quitting and lying and pointing fingers and such. All qualities we can respect and admire.
That is the problem...what has this woman, who you folks know so very little about, done to deserve anyone's DISrespect ???
You don't agree with her on an issue...fine...don't vote for her should she ever choose to run for an office. But the current ugliness is something far beyond that. And for what...because some woman politician wrote a book that you would never intend to read in the first place ???
We just had a man win the presidency after having been...and still being...coddled and caressed with the softest of media and public gloves. Yet this one woman kindles all this hatred from supposedly holier-than-thou, earthy, loving Democrat leaning people. You should be very proud of the "respect" you pay to another human being.
She's earned my disrespect for, among other things, being caught lying time and again.
The media bias argument is very thin. Perhaps the bias is on your end. You do realize that is just as likely, right?
Your president lies to this country every time he tells us that neither of the two 2000 page health care plans now on his table will not cost this country ANY additional money or added deficit. How can he know what costs will ACTUALLY turn out to be when it can be clearly assumed that he hasn't read either plan? "Not one dime" is the choice of words he uses. He is also allowing hundreds of miilions of dollars to be moved out of these health care plans' budgeting and paid for thru other budget methods, so all that money won't be shown as part of the total expense of either of these monstous plans.
What kind of "lie" could Mrs. Palin have possibly told you that bears any comparison in the lives of the US taxpaying public ???
My only "bias" is against disingenous politicians who think that the money I earn belongs to them to spend on any plan they feel like shoving down my throat.
And by the way...are you saying the "media" has not shown a clear bias favoring Mr. Obama since the day he declared his candidacy ??? If that's what you think, any argument you may have is moot.
Good article, but-John Edwards is an intellectual compared to Ms Paljn. Despite Dan Quails affinity for his foot, or both of them, he too had a much better grasp of world and national affairs than Ms. Palin.  She was a cynical choice made by the GOP in an attempt to enhance its chances with women voters. Unfortunately, no one did their due diligence prior to their announcement of her as McCain's choice, and the rest we all know.Â
I'd venture to say John Holmes was an intellectual compared to Sarah Palin
And Joe is a veritable genius.
For someone who is so intellectically not with it all the hardball interviewers really are foaming at the mouth for a Palin-gotcha-moment. Big O and Babs are at the top of the list.Seems to me she was the one drawing the big crowds at rallies. The McCain team kept her under wraps for 3 weeks before anyone heard anything from her. Wallace sounds like sour grapes to me. I also detest listening to Obama without his telepromter, the ivy leauge education does not make him a good off the cuff speaker by any means.
What's laughable is that Palin was portrayed as to inexperienced to take over as President if the need arose. WTF??! Palin is more qualified and experienced than Obama! Why is no one pointing out that FACT? The VP candidate has never been an issue in the history of this nation. She must have been a great candidate for that to happen.
I agree with the first part; but the VP candidate is always an issue. We've had a few take the oval office thanks to assassins. Pretty big deal.
I meant, I don't recall the VP candidate ever being an issue in the campaigns before...even when it was Geraldine Ferraro for the Democrats - oh wait, must be because the liberal media loved her.
While experiance is always an important consideration, it hasn't necessarily served us well. G.W Bush would have had as good of credentials as you could want in this regard, former governor, son of a president, but it just is not an adequate substitute for good judgement, honesty and due diligence.
McCain,Hillary Clinton, and a wide variety of others offered more experience. Their shortcoming was in offering more of the status quo. The hope that Obama represented, may turn out to be just a pipe dream, mainly because the Washington beltway "experienced" legislature is doing an excellent job of catering to the banks, bug business, the health care lobby and maintaining the status quo, making sure that only the masses will be cheated out of any benefit from the giant debt that we continue to build.
Ken,
Put down the Bong ! Take your medication ! The boogeyman is not going to get you tonight....maybe tomorrow.
By the way it's "Big Business" not bug business.
JIM,
Are you saying 'big' business does not run this country? Lobbyists might be inclined to disagree, but wtf do they know?
Lets see Barrack Obama signed a big book deal when he took office. When do you suppose he is going write it, out on the golf course or when he is jetting around with Oprah, on our time and dollar?
As for the did the McCain camp mishandling Sarah, you don't need Sarah's book to know that, the Katie and Charlie intervies were horrific. Katie acting like a spoiled 3 years old, what magazines do you read, after all a hick conservative probably can't read, right! This the unbaised journalist who had tears in her eyes when Kerry conceded and Charlie's with his hour long Obamammercial. Hardly the best places to conduct your first interviews. Charlie sitting up higher and looking down over his glasses at her, she should have walked on both interviews. As for clothes, my guess is Michelle is wearing gratis more money in her average evening gown than the entire Palin wardrobe.
As far as I can see McCain advisor must have been working for the Obama campaign.
Speaking of spoiled 3 year olds, look in the mirror. You're right, the interviews were horrific, but only because Palin didn't/doesn't have a clue. But instead of seeing how unqualified she is, you blame the interviewer and everyone else for her own failings. And your last sentence says it all. Yeah, I'm sure all the republican advisors were secretly working for the democrats. Just another excuse.
Oh, come on rgarrett. Is that all you've got? Please.
NHLucky - yeah, I know what you mean. People like rgarrett have nothing substantial to say, so they revert to meaningless rhetoric and think it sounds really smart.
For the party of Franks, Reid, Pelosi and our dear VP Biden to talk about unqualified, well, nice try, but that dog don't hunt.
I think Sarah has as much right to be a stupid politician as any other idiot in DC, and honestly, she still has more experience than the committee-in-chief who currently occupies the White House.
No one is qualified to be President. It is a ridiculous job, with impossible duties, overseeing an out of control bureaucracy that should be dismantled if for no other reason than it behaves like GM on steroids and quaaludes.
But I do love the irony - the party of O talking about being qualified. What a hoot.
Yeah, we all know just how perfect those christians are in every way... don't we!
Could you please prove that Obama signed a "big book deal" before he took office? I didn't think so.
My favorite line from this article.
Now that she isn't running for office I have absolutely no problem with Mrs. Palin. Actually I think she is a fascinating individual. She's unique, easy on the eyes, humorous, strong and aggressive. I thouroughly disagree with her politics but that only matters if she's a politician. My buddy is a hardcore Republican but he's still my buddy.
The Republican Party has an ace in the hole. This person would do wonders helping conservatism prevailed in 2012. By the time he's done the GOP will look very attractive to the voters. Thank you president Obama for your help and hard work adding a $1,000,000,000,000 to the deficit in just one year. It can't be easy making jimmy Carter look good.
Where this article went wrong was the minute words went down in print.
It should be obvious to anyone with a brain cell that SP is not a viable candidate for prez. So why does everyone feel so compelled to continue bashing here as if she matters?
And McCain? What about the fool he made of himself by nominating here in the first place? And for that matter ask yourself how did McCain get nominated in the first place if the party was everything it is accused of being on NewsWhine?
Do the math people, put two and two together if you are able.
OMG - Pal she is unqualified to be the President if she where a man, woman, something in the middle, Democrat. Republican, Libertarian, Socialist or you name it - sexism has absolutely nothing to do with this - to even suggest that is the issue is patently absurd - could it - in research terms "account for some of the variance?" Yes. But the reverse is also true it accounted for some of her popularity. When debating her qualifications in my gym a friend of mine said "Yeah, but she's hot" Really, there is an important criterion for you. Here's the news = it got to hot for her and she bailed on her state.
If Palin's picture on the cover of Newsweek was so offensive, why did she pose for it? Quit blaming the media bias for everything, and stop ranting about your ridiculous opinions based on "facts" from sources you can't cite. Apparently the media is biased if it doesn't agree with your opinion and doesn't dumb it down to a level understandable by anyone who's moved past the fourth grade.
If you actually paid attention, you'd know that she posed for that picture for RUNNER'S WORLD magazine, for a profile they did on her. For Runner's World, it was an appropriate picture, for Newsweek, not so much.
Newsweek, of all the millions of images available of her, choose that one to demean her. Period.
You should STFU until you know the full story.
And by the way, the media has never been as dumb as it is now, because it's hard to think when they're humping Obama's leg.
Good point. Sarah knows how to manipulate the media and the public. That is what is going on here. Anybody who thinks she is a victim needs their head examined.
Prag. Can you please try to be less crass? What's the point of that?
I actually knew that this was a pose from her Runner's World shoot. I'm sure that lots of people in office run and work out. However, they don't all pose in seductive short shorts. The outrage should be that the flag is draped over a chair like a wet towel.
This woman's a total cretin. She's allowed to dish it out, but when it comes back at her, she's being targeted.
I say again, Sarah knows how to manipulate the media and the public, and she is willing to do so. She chose to expose herself in photos, to continually expose her children to media scrutiny, and to make it part of her campaign. Any publicity is good publicity as far as she is concerned, I'll bet. Even parading your pregnant, unmarried, teenaged daughter around on the national stage -- she exploited her own kid for heaven sake. There is no level too low for our Sarah to stoop to when it comes to getting media attention. She posed for the photo in question, she made it part of the public domain, and she takes the consequences. BTW, has SHE complained about the shot?
I don't like Palin, but I agree that the Newsweek cover was sexist and inappropriate.
All it can do is validate the belief of some who claim the media is biased against her. I don't think the media started out that way, but the way she's made everyone her enemy, it's certainly heading there.
And you KNOW this because...???
Sometimes a cigar IS just a cigar
Yo, Mr. self-proclaimed "educated liberal", she did not pose for the cover of Newsweek. She allowed Runner's World to take this picture of her and Newsweek somehow got hold of it, then using it for their political hack job.
she POSED for the picture......whether it be runner's world or newsweek she put the little shorts on, posed for the pic. why didnt SHE find the shorts distasteful and wear something less provocative. like others said here, if it's praising her the media is her friend but if it criticizes her, it's the evil left wing conspiracy. get real.
Obama, McCain, and the others were covered for a year or more before the conventions. Palin was pulled out of the hat two months before the election. Given the few interviews she gave, it was imperative that the interviewers get as much as possible out of their opportunities. "What do you read?" is a short question which can reveal a lot about the interests of the candidate's interests. It was not a loaded question, but her response indicated that she either read very little or she was ashamed of what she did read (Closet Playboy reader?) She had a chance to show what she knew - it turns out that was not very much. Even today, her responses are platitudes; there is no sign that she even realizes that their can be gray area, incompatile goals (supporting the troops and cutting the taxes which provide their food, equipment medical care etc.). As for sexism, I doubt if she would have gotten as far as she did if she did not have sex appeal and a cheerleader personality to balance McCain's seriousness. Her experience as governor of a state with a major income source not available to the rest of the country (oil) and receiving major federal subsidies does not equip her to deal with the problems of the rest of the country, and she was involved in ethics probes within two years of taking office. Now she has quit. That the teabaggers follow her is a reflection of their own shortcomings.
Chief - well said!!
Chief Jim H,
Your implied concept of her being a closet Playboy Reader is sexist, trashy and totally in keeping with the Democratic mantra of "to hell with integrity, attack her at any costs". Stupid questions from biased reporters do not always give an opportunity for intelligent response....particularly when she was put on the spot. Maybe she should follow the Obama path of "planted questions" with already rehearsed answers.
JIM041424:
Chief's implied concept of Palin being a closet Playboy Ready was something we like to call a joke. Lighten up, You don't have to nail yourself to a cross every time someone makes a joke.
How is asking someone what they read to stay current a stupid question that did not give her an opportunity for an intelligent response? There is no questions that does not allow the person being asked to give an intelligent response.
BTW, what do you read to stay current?
Hi Chief. Wrong: ""What do you read?" is a short question which can reveal a lot about the interests of the candidate's interests. It was not a loaded question, but her response indicated that she either read very little or she was ashamed of what she did read (Closet Playboy reader?)"
Mrs. Palin is well read. She refused to provide specifics as to what she read because of the way Couric was conducting her interview. The implication, after many such questions, often repeat questions, was taken as "what do backwater hicks from Alaska read."
Now, I see that her answer did not, in your words, "reveal a lot about the interests of the candidate's interests," but her response indicated nothing of what you suppose (however, your bias does).
In addition, her success as governor during the time she served, was not her only public office. She was city council member from 1992 to 1996 and then mayor from 1996 to 2002. Then she was chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Not only was she elected Governor of Alaska in November 2006, but was the first female governor of Alaska and the youngest person ever elected governor of that state. And she goes on to be a candidate for VP of the United States.
Those are certainly not the accomplishments of a person who reads little or reads for titilation. I'd have to say she's accomplished way more than just about all her detractors.
And then she quit. She's a quitter. She will never overcome that. And her lies are so huge and well documented. Too many Americans know she is a lying sack of manure. She can't overcome that either.
Why are most of her appearences closed to the media? She can't handle the scrutiny.
Couric asked repeat questions because Palin avoided answers. Couric is a journalist working for a major media outlet. Her job is to get information and answers. Who do you want to cover Palin? Jack and Jill Magazine?
From just a pure resume SHe is more qualified then John Edwards, Biden, Wes Clark, Barrak Obama, and many others to to be president.
Is she the smartest person in the world? no
But hell JIMMY CARTER who was a NUCLEAR ENGINEER might have been the smartest president ever....how did that work out?
Smart presidents who get caught up in details and are scared to make a decision are disasters...as we are learning with OBAMA
OBAMA supposed to be so smart..... hasnt really shown it as prez
This isn't about Mr. Obama, Senator Edwards, Senator Biden, General Clark or former President Carter. Stop the distraction and diversion. If there's something substantive about former Governor Palin, put it on the table.
Brad..
then stop making the attack she is not qualified to be prez.
Thats what Dems and Liberals and MSNBC says over and over and over.
What did John Edwards ever due to be qualified to be president?
Get rich chasing ambulances?
Just hold Palin to the same standard.
She isn't qualified. She cannot even articulate basic positions on the major problems that face this country. Beyond that, she's a lose canon, is not a team player and her shameless self promotion combined with an inability at self reflection and more than a tad of narcissism are a dangerous combo. Being a lose canon and refusing to join the team may have worked for someone of the character of Truman or even Reagan. But she's gotta show the American people that she's capable of something other than the pettiness of tossing heat rounds like a pimply-faced adolescent shooting spit wads in class before she garners any substantive support. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter to me from which bin a suitable candidate is chosen: left, right, center, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian or none of the above. But we need someone who can tackle the issues facing this nation and time is running out.
OK, Charger, let's see it then. Give us some substance from Sarah. Fuggedabout the other guys for one minute and focus on her. Convince me.
Chargeguy - I noticed you didn't say anything substantive about Palin, just got very defensive about qualifications. Where did John Edwards come from? One of the criticisms of the President is/was he wasn't qualified. At least he had more exposure and experience running for President. McCain picked Palin because he thought maybe that would get him elected, not because he thought she was some political genius. So they had to cram everything into 2 months to make her seem viable, and it didn't work. In one of her recent interviews, she says she wasn't surprised that she was picked to be McCain's running mate. Unfortunately, she's the only one. If she had ANY kind of brain matter, she might have just stopped and thought about what was being asked of her before she even started this masquerade. The only reason she quit being a governor is because she saw dollar signs. Period. What a piece of work.

I guess it will never be answered, but really, WTF was the republican party thinking when they selected her as VP candidate?
There was a method to the madness. Senator McCain knew the fundie fringe that had hijacked the Party viewed him with suspicion. He needed one from among their ranks to pull in their support. Problem was, America had gotten enough of those who confused faith with reality, belief with science & who were more concerned with what two people do in their bedroom and what a woman does with her body running the country; as well, allowing Wall Street to continue its gambling binge at the public's expense. When the none issues took priority to a roof over one's head and bread butter on the table, the people spoke. Add to that the Neo Con confusion with war as leadership and pandering to the corporatocracy and the rest is, as they say, history. Governor Palin is too associated with this stuff to ever be a viable candidate. Let them run her; she reminds me of a female WASP version of Fran Drescher; New York nasal, great bod but at least Fran has a sense of humor and a heart that's not vindictive.
Brad "pandering to the corporations" really...
The PARTY that supported BILL CINTON for 8 years in office as he passed WTO, GATT, and NAFTA and Most favored Nation trade status for china wants to talk about panderin to corporations? all designed to Help corporations and change DECADES of US trade policy and all of which hurt the US economy and the US worker.
The party that said nothing as Clinton delinked improved human rights in china with improved access to our market......wants to talk about "pandering to corporatocracy"
The party of Bill Clinton as he preasured INDIA nd other nations to sign deals with ENRON....the party who had control of the SEC as ENRON was running its scam in the 90's wants to attack others for pandering to corporations?.....really
You do know Clinton did far more to help ENRON then GW every did? dont you?
The party that supported Bill Clinton as he signed deregulation of banking and financial system in 1999....wants to attack other for pandering to corporations?
The Dem party that gave BILLIONS of US tax payers money to Failed corporations and corrupt bankers....wants to talk about pandering to corporations...
the IGNORANCE it takes to be a dem in the modern demoratic party never ceases to amaze.
Six of those eight years, the treaties you speak of were approved by a Republican-controlled Congress if my memory is correct. Be that as it may, Clinton has been out of office more than a decade. Once again, the story is about whether or not Sarah Palin is being treated fairly by the media; and I'd add whether or not she's capable of leading the country. Anything you'd like to say about that? Perhaps it's already all been said and she can now just fade into oblivion. One can only hope.
Brad our economy and CHINESE rising power is based on those treaties..
By the way you brought up Panderin to Corporations...I didnt.
MSNBC covers Palin 24/7 I watch all 3 main news networks.... MSNBC gives her more coverage then they other two combined.
Its MSNBC and MEDIA always talking about her running for president..not her..
As well they should cover her. It is what happens when a public figure writes a book and steps into the limelight.
Brad btw was a Dem controlled senate that approved the IRAQ war the war in afghanistan and the Patriot act and passed GW tax cuts in his first two years in officebut some how IRAQ war is all GW....
so by that standard Trade treaties..pandering and selling out to China and deregulating Banking and Financial services....all on CLinton
Brad you just said for her to go away...now you say cover her...which is it?
Chargerguy - Did all that happen under Clinton? Really. And GW had no part in continuing what you say was already started? What did GW do to fix all the things you mention were broken? Nothing, except start a war that has cost the US billions of dollars. Great.
Chargerguy
Brad you just said for her to go away...now you say cover her...which is it?
The rest of the country is safe while she stays in Alaska; but when we need a good laugh, let's haul her out of moth balls. Now doesn't that sound like bi-partisan compromise to you? : )
Brad..so your saying MSNBC is giving nearly 24/7 coverage to a comedian?
what does that say about MSNBC?
Not qualified. Not Qualified? LOOK AT THE WHITE HOUSE. Your idiot has zero qualifications to be President. BUT, he is pretty, went to the right schools (just like GW Bush, but he was an idiot) and bullied his way into the Senate, so he MUST have been qualified.
Your idiot votes Present. Your idiot manages by committee. Your idiot values the Olympics more than our armed forces.
Not qualified. What a joke. Not the funny kind.
Not only is she qualified, she scares the crap out of most libs because she is a girl. No worries though, keep up your crying, it's fun to read.
Charger -- I am still waiting for some substance on Sarah. Got any? Ot are you just going to keep ducking by attacking the other guys?
NFL..
I am waiting for some substance from OBAMA ...difference is SARAH isnt president..
BTW I never said sarah had substance...I said she was no less qualified then BIDEN or EDWARDS or OBAMA..
Sarah is no more or less qualified then lots of People who have run for president both dem and GOP..
Wow, Charger. Is that the best you can do?
NHL
your are asking me to support an argument I did not make
sorry not going to fall into that trap.
In addition, her success as governor during the time she served (cleaned up corruption among other accomplishments) was not her only public office.
She has what is known as "executive" experience, and a fair amount of that. She has a proven track record, that surely exceeded that of both Barrak Obama and Hillary. And although it never comes up, she also has a college degree. So, enough about her not having qualifications. If you wish to simply pick on her, then go ahead. But I'll bet dollars to donuts that she is better educated and better qualified than quite a few posting so negatively here.
you forgot gwb!
The ONLY reason we tolerate her is because we would like to see her naked!
What's up with the flap over the Newsweek cover? She obviously dressed herself (including shining up her legs) and posed for the picture!!!
so why exactly do we tolerate Pelosi?
Yeah, Pelosi can do that to a man.
ed...that's really the point and the truth behind much of her support.
all i can say is that mark whitaker is an idiot and as of now his judgement is proven retarded
Amazing how soon people forget, when McCain lost the election he immediately thru her under the bus, and made many comments about her and jumped on the band wagon to trash her.
... thus proving that while repukes are against abortion, they clearly don't have a problem with cannibalism of their own species!
Exactlly! Why are you libs so frickin scared of her! She 's Not this, not that, she'll never be and never was....people last time I looked ANYONE can run for office in this country! She Was a Gov. She did run of VP! McCain wasn't as popular as she was and that's a fact! The artical states that he never said a neg. word about her??lol That's total BS and so is the fact that the media tore her apart on every single thing! They never said a dang thing negitive about Obama and Biden. When was the last time you heard of the media retracting a drawing (cartoon) of anyone? But, they did when Obama didn't like one with his ear's being big! I haven't seen any other's have you..? I haven't forgotten the out of taste cartoon of McCain standing behind a desk w/ Sarah bent over it and he's was yelling (DRILL BABY DRILL!) the media's Bias and one sided stand on this election was clear and still is Dem's and Libs! ( That Cartoon was on here at MSNBC for a week! She has every right to write a book. I'm still woundering how Obama found the time to write TWO while he was a new Senator? VP (yes boy) Biden can run this country? Obama himself dosen't want him to open his mouth! Scared of a book..what next! LOL
Kiki, one thing they can't do is answer your question, at least not with anything of true substance or value, to explain their hatred. They seem like the high school crowd that would pick on someone because others were doing it, perhaps based on lies and half truths. I'm still waiting for a substantive versus a subjective reason for hatred.
From the story…
These days, the best way for a political figure to get a fat book contract is to promise to unload on enemies and rivals. Palin obliges…
John McCain, who to this day chivalrously refuses to speak ill of Palin, may have deserved better from her in this book…
But the aides who so quickly sought to shift attention from their own responsibility for his bungled campaign by dumping on his running mate did not.
Perhaps these three observations are more telling about the character and integrity of the parties involved than all the pronouncements of the Monday night quarterbacks and arm chair pundits combined.
Yeah... This coming from the McCain that's alway's giving Obama a Thumb's UP now day's..
I just wish the media would leave Palin alone; she is picked on because she doesn't fit the norm these days; kinky and a minority. Women should have supported Hilary and Her better this past election. Shame on all of you. If you want to pick on someone pick on Levi and his parents.
Let's face it - For some reason, be it rational or not, the far left liberals FEAR Sarah Palin. Why else would the media be giving her book, and her, so much coverage? Prior to the release of the book, most were commenting on a book that they hadn't even read...
CHARLIE-295693
Funny how Leftwing Loons FEAR PALIN. If she is not a threat to Democrats, why all the attention?
She garners it herself. It wasn't the Democrats or the public who wrote the book.
Brad, OR who posed for the photo originally. She looks happy to do it in the pic.
Fear Sarah Palin? WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Personally, I am as liberal and progressive as it gets and I really, REALLY want Sarah Palin to run for president. I say bring it on, Sarah!
Fear doesn't even come into the equation, friend. I'm not just saying that to be cutesy, either. I really hope she runs for and wins the Republican nomination. Perhaps Rush could step up as her VP, since he seems to admire her in-depth policy discussions so much.
I'd be fairly licking my chops if it all played out that way. The only thing I fear is that it won't really happen. And I hope she keeps on writing books too, and otherwise getting all the attention she so strongly deserves. The more she writes and speaks, the better, if you ask me. I know you agree, too, but likely for the exact opposite reason that I've got...
One of us has to be right about Sarah, and trust me, it's me. I'll be glad to play those cards and take my chances, thanks. But just know that fear has no part of my personal view of Sarah Palin. I wish all Republicans were just like her, frankly.
Now if only we could get Nancy Pelosi to write a book. But of course she can't actually put a meaningful sentence together let alone a thought.
You folks are a hoot. Really. A hoot.

Let's face it - For some reason, be it rational or not, the far left liberals FEAR Sarah Palin. Why else would the media be giving her book, and her, so much coverage?
Actually its not the far left that fears her, its EVERYONE... you would be wise to do the same! Also, its the media's job to bring attention to their networks/publications, for ratings and profits sake duh!
I disagree that the left fears Sarah. It is more like a morbid fascination. Like a circus act or a car wreck. You can't not watch.
Her book should have a warning on the cover;
Contains 90% -- Lark Vomit!
(thank you monty python)
Paul F - you really are a hoot, too. If there's any ganging up on poor Sarah, or too much media attention, or whatever the immediate problem is, there's nobody to blame......except Sarah!!!! She lashes out at all the McCain advisors for her poor showing. OK, for the sake of argument, lets say she's telling the truth (hehehe). What the H--- would she do if she were VP, or President for that matter? She SHOULD have known what she was getting herself into in the first place. She needs to "man up" as they say. You know, take some responsibility. And PLEASE don't come back with some comment like....."well, Obama..........
Paul, Pelosi did write at least one. It's in the self help section in Barnes and Noble.Â
Her 15 minutes of fame ended long ago. Now she is making millions and getting bookoo media coverage..., while the far left preaches hatred... It is the media coverage that keeps her in the spotlight. Now that is interesting...
"Now if only we could get Nancy Pelosi to write a book. But of course she can't actually put a meaningful sentence together let alone a thought."
Blarg, someone beat me to it. But yes, Speaker Pelosi has written a book, "Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters". She wrote it by herself. Though in fairness, the Amazon reader reviews say it's pretty boring:
http://www.amazon.com/Know-Your-Power-Americas-Daughters/dp/0767929446/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpi_1
I don't think Dems fear her, in fact I think they are hoping she is nominated, her record is not something to bank on. From a platform standpoint she is too far right and center right voters know better. GDI voters have grown because of candidates like Palin, wary of party decisions in nominating someone like Palin, reactively become independent.
Hmmmm... yes and while the far right NEVER preaches hatred do they? Step away from the koolaid dude!
and half preach the bible along with their hate
Its amazing that the Associated Press assigned 11 reporters and 38 staff members to fact check Sarah Palin's book but no one fact checked Obama's.
Had Sarah Plain never come on to the scene this article would still be valif. We sae how the media tore after Hilary Clinton and gave favor to Obama. Even the late show pundits saw this and mimicked the overt disparity in coverage.
Guess no matter how much the media claims to be open, un-biased, and un-influenced that it is still very sexist.
Good point; I still don't see them asking the really tough questions. By the end of the first year of his term, I'd expect to see it and the clock is ticking.
navynuke
"Its amazing that the Associated Press assigned 11 reporters and 38 staff members to fact check Sarah Palin's book but no one fact checked Obama's."
And you have proof and know of this for certain how? You actually spoke and quoted all 49 of the people you referenced as corroborating your claim... "right"?
That is a riduculous comment govhater - do your own research - it's out there for you to read, if perhaps you can...
OBAMA lied about job growth and use of presidential signing statments..
Takes about 2 minutes on the internet to find this out
and as ECONOMY continues to tank, as OBAMA get ZERO from the chinese, and dithers on Afghanistan
as Obama gives TERRORIST the same RIGHTS as american citizens...
just much easier for MSNBC to cover PALIN then OBAMA failing presidency
Obama's books AND background have been thoroughly checked and rechecked for veracity, since he won the Democratic Party's nomination. Does anyone really think the books the President wrote before he became President would not be checked for accuracy? And then rechecked after he became President?
The difference is, nothing in there was revealed to be false. All the Obama haters could do was pull quotes out of context and/ or change them to make it sound like he was a secret Muslim (Remember that fake e-mail, "If the political winds shift, I will stand with the Muslims", etc.)
If you've read his books and find lies among anything he states, please let us know.
Your sources, Charger?
True Very True!
314159
Oh so brilliant comeback, insightful, and you even threw a little insult in there at the end... typical, and also typical that you provided no answer. Next...
NHL sources for what?
Charger for your claims in #22.4. I'd like to see them for myself.
NHLucky; What do you read that keeps you so much in the dark - really?
So, does this mean Charger can't tell me what he is basing his claims on and I am supposed to take his word for it? I like to know where claims come from. It helps me decide if they are trustworthy or not. Don't you like to know the source of your information? Fairly basic.
For crying out loud NHL, just read the news. Obama said that unemployment - if we immediately passed the "critical" stimulus bill, would not exceed 8%. Today it is over 10.2%.
I know, that is technically about as much a lie as Bush believing our intelligence community and the previous administration, that Saddam still had weapons of mass distruction (you know, the kind he actually used in his war on Iran and on the Kurds), but still, you people persist in calling it a lie. Therefore, Obama lied about unemployment. He also lied about desiring to run his campaign on public funding.
If you read it, tell me where, Sparky. That shouldn't be so hard. I don't think you can.
NHL, here is one source that claims the original WH claims on the stimulus bill are aready in the rear view mirror, and lacking. Job growth has not panned out, unemploument has exceeded WH predictions, etc.: http://www.abcnews.go.com/Business/job-economic-growth-benefits-stimulus/story?id=8903006.
There are plenty more like this that mention the Sweet deal we were promised versus the bad deal we are getting.
So, what do you read?
NHL, relative to Chargerguy's pointing out how Obama has back-tracked on Presidential Signing Statements, here is what one source says "During his presidential campaign, Obama rejected the use of signing statements. He was asked at one rally: "when congress offers you a bill, do you promise not to use presidential signing statements to get your way?" Obama gave a one-word reply: "Yes." Alas, "On March 11, 2009, President Obama issued his first signing statement." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signing_statement_(United_States). NHL, this is the low hanging fruit - go test the waters yourself.
NHL, here are a couple more. First is about campaign finance: Here is the promise, Clinton and Obama have also been raising private funds for the general election, but Obama said he would return the money and accept public funding in the general if the Republican nominee agrees to do the same. It is in: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/27/edwards.public.financing/index.html.
Here is the reality: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-06-19-opt-out-qa_N.htm, especially under the heading "Why is the decision controversial?"
The second is about lobbyists. The first on this score is Obama in the campaign mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09VKus6quMU
The second on this score is the U-turn once elected: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTgobtv8scI&feature=related
Are these lies cheesy or what? NHL, I've successfully called your bluff - see, I know things and can support what I say. Let me know if you need more.
John McCain gets points for his chivalrous response. Hopefully Sarah Palin will enjoy reading McCain's book one day, too.
then she can count that in her reading material....1
sarah, rush, joe the plumber, beck, coulter, etc etc Thank goodness thinking people recognize the conservative movement for the way it has sunk to this!
and Maddow Olberdumb Schultz..... are smart....AHHAHHAHHAHAHAHA
and Code Pink is who should be deciding our Foreign policy..ahhahah
Conservatism is sunk? Yeah, right! That's why moderate and conservative news and opinion media ratings are skyrocketing while liberal counter-parts such as ABC, NBC, CBS, ratings are in the toilet and the ore leftist such as Kos and Air America are defunct or on the verge of it.
The reason you libbies are in such trouble is that everything is black and white with you. It always has to be your way or the highway. You support and push agendas that are not popular with anyone but your own little socialist clique.
As for Sara Palin; as the article alludes; she needs no defense. She's not running for anything, nor is she even holding public office yet, you libbies still foul your trousers in fear at the very mention of her name. She has succeeded in so many of the arenas where you self-absorbed libbies fail miserably.
She has been able to successfully juggle the roles of wife, mother, working woman, and major public office-holder. At the same time she has been able to keep up her figure and appearance. She is a straight talking, no-nonsense, genuine representation of what the majorities of Americans believe in and care about.
She is everything you and your liberal Democrites could never hope to be and that's why you hate and fear her. Better get over it or get used to it, I think.
These comments are HILARIOUS! How do you have any idea whether she is successful in her personal life? Her teenage daughter got pregnant (by a not so nice guy) and you have no idea what kind of family life she has or how happy her children are or anything else. Her only public office position of note was her governorship and she QUIT!
The only way Palin could have rendered herself qualified was to gain more experiencing governing. She quit her job instead of dealing with the complexities and difficulties of governing Alaska and as you put it "juggling the roles of wife, etc." The media covers her because she is a polarizing figure and everyone is always waiting to report how she stuck her foot in her mouth again. Of course she can run for office, she can do whatever she wants, but the jig is up. The American people are not going to suddenly support her in majority numbers because she wrote a book. If she had put her head down and excelled at the job that she WAS elected for, she might have had a chance. As it stands now, she is just fodder.
JonyMC the same way LIBERALS know the OBAMAS have a happy marriage..
Funny Obama and Hillary BOTH quite there jobs as senators....Media doesn't care
This is all very creative and informative NEWS yeah right. When we start to pay attention to our own lives. The way some pay attention to Palin's Obama's and the like maybe just maybe the world could become a better place.
I refuse to even read that book its nonsense jibberish and does nothing to advance our society.
As for the conservative or Liberal hatemongers (have you ever attempted to see the world from the other sides point of view). Each party has its pluses and its faults.
Spewing out what you have been told to believe is not Freedom at all. True freedom comes from within. If you do not search from within yourself. You will go without until you do. A prisoner to a belief that may not even be valid for you.
It is kinda like a kid lost at a mall. Running around trying to find himself. If the kid would stand still for a minute and think. The kid would realize that they are where they were all along (AT THE MALL).
Find our truth and let all that uncreative gossip running love to hate junk go. No one is more responsible for our lives than ourselves. We choose our lives and our government. Based on what? some outdated views. Free your mind first then excepting that its all going to be ok no mater what will come.
This may sound a bit crazy but hey crazy times call for crazy measures. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
Bartman, what an elitist statement "Thank goodness thinking people recognize the conservative movement...blah, blah, blah."
The moment you begin to believe that only those who hold opinions similar to yours are intelligent or "thinking people" you enter territory reserved for fools.
