It's very easy to argue that Lieberman may be no better than Hitler. Roughly 50,000 Americans die needlessly each year for lack of health care coverage. If Lieberman guts this bill, it will be business as usual. Then in 10 years, Lieberman will have been responsible for the deaths of half a million Americans: men, women and children--a Holocaust! He will go down in history as America's largest mass murderer, a Hitler of our times.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine why he's standing in the way of every effort to reduce the cost of health care. I'm with Chris. We might need to start checking the freezer in Lieberman's garage. He just seems to be acting in the best interests of the insurance companies rather than the people of Connecticut.

Public Healthcare works in more countries than not and it produces better health care than here. We are 36th in the world regarding our quality of healthcare. Yet, we as Americans are too damned stupid to be able to improve on something. We don't have the creative abilities that God gave a mole anymore. It stands to reason that if it has always been a certain way, it is best in the eyes of Americans to remain the same. We can't see past the ends of our radical noses and our politicians can't see past the big corporate donors that get them elected. Joe is a slim bag. Of course, McCain is a slim bag, Boehner is a slime bag and 90% of the arses sitting in congressional seats are slimebags. If Dodge hadn't improved on the 318 CI Engine, the push rods would still be working through the valve tapets like they did for years. healthcare is a bigger and bigger burden each year, costs growing at an alarming rate and we have to do something. perhaps we really get radicalized and implement rates that the insurers can charge and that is it. Just like Germany does with its insurers. here you have a group of X number of folks that you will insure for this rate. Now do business and shut up.
I just hope that the health insurance companies and big pharma give LIEberman enough money for his next election. This way he can offset the millions that will be sent to anyone that runs against him.

Carol - the majority of his constituents want the public option? Now that's rich. He represents a state where health insurance companies employ the vast majority of citizens, provide the largest tax base and have the greatest influence.
And your point being? Just because the insurance industry is big in that state doesn't mean that the people are against reform which the polls show that they are in support of.
If he's getting calls day and night from his constituents telling him to oppose the public option, then the people he's hearing from aren't representative of people in his state.

There are always several motives behind a person's decision to act one way rather than another. In Lieberman's case, my guess would be:
(1) He lives in a state whose dominant industry is the insurance business. He's gotten contributions and support from them and is virtually a lobbyist for them now, a position which he'll take formally after he loses the next election.
(2) Every time the proponents of health care agree to a compromise, Lieberman moves the goal posts and demands further concessions. He may not be finished yet. Right now, he's the most important man in Washington, DC, when it comes to health-care reform. He may be enjoying the limelight. As Mel Brooks said, "It's good to be da king."
I mostly respectfully disagree with Lieberman, but he is not a liberal wacko like most of the Dems. The cobbling together of "something" just for the sake of having a bill for Obama to sign, is madness. I think of Lieberman as a Democrat from when they were cool instead of the radicals and socialists of today. Hopefully Limpie Snowe will will wake up and smell the hypocricy.

Lieberman is that classic definition of a politician. He doesn't care about anything other than what is good for Lieberman, and as usual is grandstanding for the cameras. If the Dem's were smart (yeah, I know, but walk through this fantasy with me), they would have drop-kicked Lieberman from every committee.
Personally, I wanted the single-payer system like those countries whose products we now import. For 25% of what we pay on average now for insurance, we could all just kick in to Medicare, and be done with the debate. Employers would save huge on not having to provide health coverage for their employees. Workman's Compensation insurance savings alone would save each business an average 20% on their payroll costs. We would also have a much healthier work force as well.
But we'll never see that in our lifetimes, because those who work for or profit from the government keep telling us that government is bad, but for-profit corporations who are unelected and unaccountable know what is best for us.

As is stated in our Preamble, the job of the federal government is to promote the general welfare of this country. Just because something is not in the Constitution doesn't mean it's not a right. See the 9th Amendment:
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
There's no need to amend the Constitution, the Founders clearly saw that there unnamed rights exist would be elaborated upon in the future. Strict constructionists are silly, because they operate under the assumption that the Founders put everything they wanted into the Constitution. The Founders obviously knew that a country will create more laws, and the Constitution provides a framework for them.

If he is listening to his constituents he is the only one in Washington. But I doubt that. It seems everyone has an agenda. The Demos, to get what Obama wants and the Repubs to block anything Obama wants. I don't think they listen to anyone out here. I, too, would like universal health care or single payer but I know this will never happen. I have been trying for at least 30 years to support this because Deborah is right. It is a big drain on business in this country. And becoming larger by the year.

I wonder what she could buy from small businesses if her premium was $500 instead of $1500. Maybe she could buy her grandkids more presents for Christmas. He's nothing more than a republican in an independent's costume, and a treacherous one at that. 2) Exemption of Unions, at the expense of other responsible (non demo voting)taxpayers, from taxation of their benefits....Dems: "We're working on it as we speak Mr. President - F the private sector."
3) 10 years of paying into the idiotic system for 6-7 years of benifits.....CHECK Mr. President
4) massive increase in federal taxes to pay for first ten years, followed by country-crushing, federal tax increases to cover the next 10 years of premiums that need to cover 10 years of benifits...CHECK Mr. President
5) Severe rationing of benifits when the democratic (absurd) LIE of $900 billion 10 year cost is off by a factor of between 2-3 times, that will bankrupt the DOA system before it starts. This will require still more society crunching tax increases....CHECK Mr. President -we're very good at stuff like that.
6) Increaseed state taxes as the the government pushes more cost onto the states as the moronic system proposed by democrats collapses under its own bloated dead-weight...CHECK Mr. President
7) Over reliance on pill popping over more expensive treatreat as further fallout from the fiscal collapse of the system (and the US) ...CHECK Mr. President
8) Provision to include, in time, illlegal aliens (who under oBAMA reign fare much better than our infidel citizens)....CHECK Mr. Presidient
9) Faux doctors, with no MD degree worth a s**t to compensate for the lack of real doctors (including doctors who will see less patients because it wont be worth it work more hours). Anyway, who need doctors when we have pills, death panels and rationing?....CHECK Mr President

Health care in Israel is both universal and compulsory, and is administered by a small number of organizations with funding from the government.
Service in the Israeli Army is compulsory as well....should we adopt that policy too???
