The Republicans voted unanimously AGAINST the stimulus. Maybe they were on to something, since the jobs never materialized but the spending sure did - for Obama's cronies and campaign supporters, and a whole bunch of people in congressional districts that DON'T EXIST.

AND, don't forget that fully a third of the stimulus money was SPECIFICALLY scheduled to spend out right before the elections in Nov. That bill was pass a year ago, and the spending postponed for 18 months. THAT is not a bill intended to create jobs or anything else, that's a bill that is intended to help Democrats get reelected - nothing more.

And it's a bill our grandchildren will pay, since it was 100% deficit spending, and it didn't work.

We won't be fooled again, Obama, and blaming Bush or Republicans isn't going to save you or the Democrats anymore.

Talk - In his Election Night speech, Obama implored Democrats and Republicans alike, "Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long."

Actions - Attacking the Republicans over and over again, threatening them with speeches like, "we're calling you out", "we won get over it, "not wanting to hear from others", etc.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc. went on saying Republicans have no ideas on health-care, yet my Congresswoman confirms, over 40 pieces of legislation have been introduced on health-care in both chambers of Congress, all buried by them DEMs so they can continue their lies of Republicans offering no idea.

Then sprinkle in the DEMs meeting behind closed doors w/ no Republicans present.

Funny thing is, NO ONE believes Obama's words anymore, they are far more interested in his actions, and they seldom align.

Obama is proposing another "Jobs Bill" with only a little over 1/3 of the 787 BILLION stimulus being spent. That is insane !!

The debt has increased 3 fold under Obama, the deficit 4 fold, with this year's deficit projected to be larger than last years. And O's response in defense is to point to Bush's bad spending late in his term? How pathetic. He far eclipses anything any previous president has done. yet won't own a damn thing.

The dollar's value is plummeting due to these irresponsible practices.

Their fiscal house needs get back on track, but it doesn't appear the DEMS have the desire or discipline to do it. They spend money like life long welfare recipients that just won the lottery.

And then the no-brainer (for most non-Libs), you have to shelve the cap and trade hoax, card check, VAT tax talk, any add'l tax talk, more gov't control over industry, etc. to produce a climate to get people back to work.

Those on the left can keep making up arguments about how great the progressive ideals are but the American people are rejecting every one of them. If you need evidence take a look at Mass. where the democrats got their rears handed to them by democrats and independents (almost all republicans voted against Coakley). This country has basic beliefs that are center right and it has been proven again and again. Obama, Reid and Pelosi set an agenda that is far to the left and it won't fly. Ask Clinton how a far left agenda worked for him in his first term. In his second term he came to the center (after the republicans won big in the mid terms) and turned out to be pretty popular; his personal life not with standing!

Unless Obama changes his ways, which is highly unlikely, this administration will go down as another Jimmy Carter experiment! Obamas personal poll numbers for "likeability" are high but his administrations ideals and policies are falling like a rock. Reid is on his way out in Nevada and Pelosi is lucky she is not a mid term race.

How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country.

I would contend that Obama had the sense of Louis Brandies's words correctly. For the rest of the speech, yes, he made a great many promises regarding the transparancy of government which do not translate well into modern politics.

But most of the agenda items he advocated he has attempted to implement since becoming president.

1. He promised to make the Afghanistan War a priority. To date he has more than doubled the number of troops there to approximately 65,000, with another 30,000+ to follow in the new year.

2. In 2008, he (and most other politicians) advocated large deficit spending to shore up our faltering economy. For better or for worse, he certainly has done so.

3. He loudly advocated national heath care reform in a way which would provide universal coverage. Well, he's attempted to do so too.

In short, nobody, neither his supporters nor his detractors should be too surprised by the major policies pushed by his administration in 2009. His policies and programs have about what many expected (or feared). As to his political stump promises and those of other Presidential candidates, such as George H.B. Bush's "Read my lips. No new taxes.", or Jimmy Carter's "I will never lie to the American People.". These are like the things newly aquainted lovers say to one another on Saturday night. Come Sunday morning...".

Mike: Ordinarily it shouldn't be hard. The problem is, have the repubs learned their lessons? It is clear that the traditional fiscal conservative issues are theirs for the taking. I'm still not sure that the repubs have it in them to stand up for them. Sure, even McCain is starting to sound better, but the fact is he is still the guy who wants to reach accross the isle and compromise. Grassley was still stuck in negotiations with the dems on healthcare long after everyone else knew that the dems weren't interested in compromise. In fact he didn't even realize that there could be no compromise. Even if half of the bills are thrown out, it is still so far into statist territory that it would look like a victory for the dems anyway as, even under ordinary circumstances, anything like this would never have been given the light of day. In that regard, the dems blew it. They had set the tone and could have given up a lot and still ended up with most of what they wanted, which would have led to the state run health care they seek. All the while, people like Grassley would have been bragging about how he was able to negotiate.

So, are the repubs smart enough to embrace the ultra-highly successful Reagan years (but with less government spending)? We'll find out.

Why has nuclear energy, which has been shown to be the cheapest and cleanest energy source, been totally discounted by Obama's energy revolution. America will NOT revitalize the worlds energy needs from here. Sorry folks. You can't spend your way out of a recession. It's been tried in the 30's and the 70's and has failed miserably. Keynesian Economics doesn't work, but all you hear out of the mouths of liberal economists is spend more and it will help. Look back to the beginning of 2009 and you will find a good portion of economists said that things would start looking up by the end of 2009 without doing anything- which is what happened. It will not surprise me if in the next election they don't throw up another candidate to get rid of him. It's going to depend on what he does these next few months. If he is not pure enough he'll be out on his butt. If he goes too "pure" he'll lose the Independent votes he had this election.

Witchrunner - You made some interesting points in your post, particularly with regard to fiscal conservatism, which everybody is in favor of in priniciple, but which few administrations have actually implemented.

With regard to Obama, the Democrats, the Republicans and which polcies will help our ailing economy, I'm greatly in fear that nothing being done or proposed, or that is possible will prevent our nation's gradual slide into a Depression. Deficit spending be it supply-side with tax cuts for corporate entities, or demand-side, with cuts for the average person, may have about as much effect as a rusted out Chevy Vega on the tracks ahead of a speeding locomotive.

I have been asking the same question over and over. I"ll tell you why you never get an answer. Everyone knows the Repulicans have NO agenda. I love it. You apparently can't read. Several people on this vine have highlighted some of their suggestions for a change - REAL change - in strategy to bring back economic stability. Your partisan drek and Bush bashing was never a strong defense for destructive policy, and it's got no teeth at all anymore.

The government needs to get out of the way:

Reinstate Glass-Steagall, and repeal Gramm-Leech-Bliley. Demand the immediate restructuring of the TBTFs, no exceptions. Rebuild the wall between traditional banking and "high" finance. There is actually a quiet movement going on in both houses of Congress, with bi-partisan support, to do exactly this.

Tackle health care reform in small, measured, specific bills with NO pork, NO special interest concessions. Start with insurance reregulation, ONE bill. Then Medicare/caid reform, and expand Caid to more people, ONE bill. Reasses, move on.

Table Crap & Tax, Card Check and amnesty. The impact of these bills, if passed, will be devastating to jobs, and companies are NOT hiring now because of the continued threat of these measures. They have no idea what their liabilities under those bills would be.

What the politicians that crafted this, Owebama, the analysts, and some media heads that have attempted to support this KNOW why it's a failure. And, an abyssmal one at that.

There never WAS ANY REFORM to begin with. It had been and still IS being purely agenda driven. None, NONE of it made any sense ans STILL doesn't. This is so cystal, azurely clearly obvious that even those that believed some of the 'used car salesmanship' at first dropped by droves before Thanksgiving, much less Christmas.

Legislating tort reforms, mandating that competition must exist across state lines, legislating that there cannot be denial for pre-existing conditions (though smokers, the obese, self inflicted, etc.. need to be dealt with in premiums similarly to car insurance premiums regarding many 'points'), legislating to open the pharmaceutical industry internationally (they've had no problem with doing this with every OTHER aspect of our economy) would be THE answers.

This costs next nothing, is common sensical, and is true reform. Then (or at the same time since they wasted so much on one agenda) JOBS AND THE AMERICAN ECONOMY need to be taken care of. No cap and trade, no more bull about "going green" when the nation's our jobs and economy have been sold out to nations that abuse the environment umpteen times worse than we would with our EPA standards. Then see where we're at with those that still legitimately lack insurance and cannot get full time work w/ benefits (key words here being 'cannot get'; not won't or don't want to).

Obama's economic policies are not the same. The spending might be similar as far as there being a lot of spending but it stops there. His tax ideas are entirely different.

Where he spends is not entirely where Bush did his spending.

Will his ideas work? Time will tell. But for anyone to suggest that it has failed after only a year is ridiculous.

As for war, we were in Afghanistan when he came into office and everyone knew he intended to stay in Afghanistan when he got elected. There is a reason for that. Those yelling he is soft on terror but needs to pull out of Afghanistan can't have it both ways.

Brown won because he was the best cantidate, and the media and the Republican party are attempting to distort and position that election as something larger - a "message" to President Obama from the prople. This is nothing more than a case of the best representative winning an election - it has nothing to do with Republican popularity.

What tax policies? He hasn't advocated for any significant change in tax policy, except NOT extending the Bush tax cuts. You do realize that despite significant efforts on the part of Democrats to lie about this, those tax cuts were NOT just for the wealthy, right?

No one realistically expected Obama to fix everything in one year. People would have given him credit, even if he failed, had he tried something NEW.

Instead, he's doing more of the same, and added in his own brand of crazy with legislation that not only doesn't HELP, it actually SLOWS DOWN GROWTH, or prohibits it entirely. This time last year, unemployment was 7.9%, it's now 10% - at least, and more like 12% if everyone that's off the state rolls and on the federal roll is taken into account. And he hasn't, until the last week or so, been even paying attention to it!

How is this success, or at least progress in the right direction, in your mind?

The problem is that many of his ideas, standing alone, are not all that bad. It is when you package it all together that it becomes unpalatable- even for Democrats. This admin has been a failure so far. The chance to pass legislation has gone due to in-fighting(primarily), the Republicans( secondarily) and Public Pressure.

Take Health Care Reform. If they had attempted to go after individual parts of it, some would have passed. They chose, instead on the all or nothing approach ending up with nothing(so far). Actually, the big issue I have is that they wanted to use the super-majority to ram stuff down our throats- numerous wet ink bills but their own members couldn't stomach it. If the focus had been on one or two issues- JOBS being teh number one in my mind, much could have been down. The Republicans have turned into the party of NO but not NO as in NO changes just NO as in slow down a bit- lets really look at the issues. The spirit of bi-partisanship is lost. This is a issue from both sides. You can state that the Repubs vote as a block against the bills but the Dems do the exact same. If a percentage of each side voted for the others side say 10%- nothing at all would have passed this last year( ok an exaggeration but for the use of example primarily)

They need to start over- all of them- and try to work for US. Most won't and they should get voted out- BOTH sides of the aisle. Term limits need to get put in at a minimum. Lets make the job not quite such a plum to get so you do it to serve the public not to get served by the public.

Compromise is essential, the republicans threw a temper tantrum, they lost so they took their toys and went home. That left the democrats knowing something had to be done about healthcare to craft a bill that satisfied every democrat, plus 2 independents (on opposite sides of the party). And look what we got, crap. No reform, no public option, no tort reform, just crap.

The Republicans DID offer those ideas. They were rejected out of hand. Obama laughed in April, and said, "No, we won. We're not doing that."

The national exchange is only a government controlled version of national competition. If the goal is to save people and businesses money on insurance premiums, who in their right mind insists on adding a massive layer of government bureaucracy into the process? No one in their right minds, only the Democrats, who think the American people must be too stupid to handle the process of negotiation on their own and would RATHER pay more for their insurance, have it take longer because of red tape and have to be accountable to the government. They're flat out wrong, Americans are quite capable of figuring this out, which is why the bill is only supported by about a third of the country.

It is much more conducive to the Democrats attempts to obfuscate the fact that they can't agree amongst themselves as to the best way to screw the American people to say the Republicans offered NOTHING, than to admit that they did offer ideas that the Democrats rejected. And the lame stream media has been complicit in the obfuscation, by providing absolutely NO coverage of the ideas the Republicans offered, that were rejected out of hand - because they were Republican ideas and no other reason.

The magnitude of impact of tort reform versus government run option is, admittedly by Democrats, two entirely different things and fundamental to the ideology of what the Republicans are supposed to be about - smaller government. The Democrats refusing to budge on tort reform indicates only one ideology - that of protecting their campaign contributors at the expense of the American people. If you can't see the difference there, I'm not sure what to tell you, except that those campaign contributions were MORE IMPORTANT to the Democrats than saving the American people an estimated $80 billion - based on a CBO analysis of what tort reform could save.

wtf - the tax cuts you speak of leave out MILLIONS of middle class taxpayers. But Obama has decided that any family that makes over $90,000 a year is "rich". well, I can tell you that in many high cost states in the US, like NJ, $100,000 a year income does not make you close to being "rich". What it does make you is "just getting by". We pay close to $9k a year in property taxes alone on a very small home - taxes, btw, which are almost ENTIRELY due to democratic "progessive" spending - and the NJEA teacher's union, which qualifies as an economic terrorist organization.

Democratic politicans truly don't give a sh*t about the crushing burden most taxpayers are dealing with in this country. When you add up all the local, state and federal taxes my husband and I pay, it's is about 38% of our income. And when you add in all the hidden taxes, like on cable bills, phone service, etc., it's well over 40%.

As noted, what Obama once supported would have increased taxes for a single taxpayer at that income level, but not for a family. The smallest possible "family" would be a single parent with a single child, and such a single parent would have to make $58,650 to have been affected. As noted, a family of four would have to make $90,000. And in any case, Obama's plan would cut taxes for families at all those levels, not increase them.

This morning on This Week David Axelrod stated that the people voted in MA because of the economy and job market. Not about health care or Obama's policies. Of special interest, however, are the many values about which the modern liberal mind is not passionate:

1. his agenda does not insist that the individual is the ultimate economic, social and political unit;
2. it does not idealize individual liberty and the structure of law and order essential to it;
3. it does not defend the basic rights of property and contract;
4. it does not aspire to ideals of authentic autonomy and mutuality;
5. it does not preach an ethic of self-reliance and self-determination;
6. it does not praise courage, forbearance or resilience;
7. it does not celebrate the ethics of consent or the blessings of voluntary cooperation.
8. It does not advocate moral rectitude or understand the critical role of morality in human relating.

The liberal agenda does not comprehend an identity of competence, appreciate its importance, or analyze the developmental conditions and social institutions that promote its achievement. The liberal agenda does not understand or recognize personal sovereignty or impose strict limits on coercion by the state. It does not celebrate the genuine altruism of private charity. It does not learn history's lessons on the evils of collectivism.

What the liberal mind is passionate about is a world filled with pity, sorrow, neediness, misfortune, poverty, suspicion, mistrust, anger, exploitation, discrimination, victimization, alienation and injustice.

Those who occupy this world are "workers," "minorities," "the little guy," "women," and the "unemployed." They are poor, weak, sick, wronged, cheated, oppressed, disenfranchised, exploited and victimized. They bear no responsibility for their problems.

None of their agonies are attributable to faults or failings of their own: not to poor choices, bad habits, faulty judgment, wishful thinking, lack of ambition, low frustration tolerance, mental illness or defects in character.

None of the victims' plight is caused by failure to plan for the future or learn from experience.

Instead, the "root causes" of all this pain lie in faulty social conditions: poverty, disease, war, ignorance, unemployment, racial prejudice, ethnic and gender discrimination, modern technology, capitalism, globalization and imperialism. In the radical liberal mind, this suffering is inflicted on the innocent by various predators and persecutors: "Big Business," "Big Corporations," "greedy capitalists," U.S. Imperialists," "the oppressors," "the rich," "the wealthy," "the powerful" and "the selfish."

The liberal cure for this endless malaise is a very large authoritarian government that regulates and manages society through a cradle to grave agenda of redistributive caretaking. It is a government everywhere doing everything for everyone. The liberal motto is "In Government We Trust."

To rescue the people from their troubled lives, the agenda recommends denial of personal responsibility, encourages self-pity and other-pity, fosters government dependency, promotes sexual indulgence, rationalizes violence, excuses financial obligation, justifies theft, ignores rudeness, prescribes complaining and blaming, denigrates marriage and the family, legalizes all abortion, defies religious and social tradition, declares inequality unjust, and rebels against the duties of citizenship.

Through multiple entitlements to unearned goods, services and social status, the liberal politician promises to ensure everyone's material welfare, provide for everyone's healthcare, protect everyone's self-esteem, correct everyone's social and political disadvantage, educate every citizen, and eliminate all class distinctions.

With liberal intellectuals sharing the glory, the liberal politician is the hero in this melodrama. He takes credit for providing his constituents with whatever they want or need even though he has not produced by his own effort any of the goods, services or status transferred to them but has instead taken them from others by force.

It should be apparent by now that these social policies and the passions that drive them contradict all that is rational in human relating, and they are therefore irrational in themselves.

But the faulty conceptions that lie behind these passions cannot be viewed as mere cognitive slippage. The degree of modern liberalism's irrationality far exceeds any misunderstanding that can be attributed to faulty fact gathering or logical error. Indeed, under careful scrutiny, liberalism's distortions of the normal ability to reason can only be understood as the product of psychopathology.

So extravagant are the patterns of thinking, emoting, behaving and relating that characterize the liberal mind that its relentless protests and demands become understandable only as disorders of the psyche. The modern liberal mind, its distorted perceptions and its destructive agenda are the product of disturbed personalities.

As is the case in all personality disturbance, defects of this type represent serious failures in development processes. The nature of these failures is detailed below.

Among their consequences are the liberal mind's relentless efforts to misrepresent human nature and to deny certain indispensable requirements for human relating.

In his efforts to construct a grand collectivist utopia—to live what Jacques Barzun has called "the unconditioned life" in which "everybody should be safe and at ease in a hundred ways"—the radical liberal attempts to actualize in the real world an idealized fiction that will mitigate all hardship and heal all wounds. (Barzun 2000).

He acts out this fiction, essentially a Marxist morality play, in various theaters of human relatedness, most often on the world's economic, social and political stages. But the play repeatedly folds.

Over the course of the Twentieth Century, the radical liberal's attempts to create a brave new socialist world have invariably failed. At the dawn of the Twenty-first Century his attempts continue to fail in the stagnant economies, moral decay and social turmoil now widespread in Europe. An increasingly bankrupt welfare society is putting the U.S. on track for the same fate if liberalism is not cured there. Because the liberal agenda's principles violate the rules of ordered liberty, his most determined efforts to realize its visionary fantasies must inevitably fall short.

I won't ask you what you're income is because it is none of my business but I will say that if you are not getting a tax cut then perhaps your family is making over $250,000 a year. Its true the united Republicans in congress delayed the Democrats but it was the grassroots conservative front that did the job, using the Republicans to do it. In an attempt to be fair regarding both parties, for those who continually beat the GOP as being the party of NO, I suggest that you go to gop.gov and you will see outlined in detail the ideas that the GOP have brought forth. They even chart them side by side with the health care proposal of Pelosi/Reid. Their ideas have all been voted down, as in NO, by the crafters of the bill. So it is not justified to say they have no ideas or plans.

I try to look at both sides to see what they are presenting and from those ideas what would benefit us as a whole. If the doors were closed to the GOP they never were able to sit down and even attempt to be bi-partisan. Obama has only himself to blame here. He allowed Pelosi especially to wield her revenge of the Bush era on the Republicans holding office and did it her way or the high way from the onset. So any thoughts of bi-partisanship were never going to happen. Too bad, cause there actually are some good ideas that both parties could have contributed without having to do a massive overall in the start of reform that actually was reform. He let his own party kill the bill by their arrogance and spitefulness. Like divorced parents arguing over who gets the kids, the kids (American people) are the losers.

Our government as is right now is about compromise and moderation...when the dems have control we get crap (due to no help from the right) ...and when the repubs have power we get nothing, NO, nada, unless you count a recession, two wars, torture, and wiretapping.

What compromise do you want? I think this bill is simple.

1) Remove competition across state lines. Allow any insurance company to market to any specific person

2) Eliminate requirements for employers to buy insurance

3) Transparency law: regulate insurance companies to make sure their terms and conditions with each contract are written clearly instead of obsfucated.

That alone will greatly lower costs. Anything else that you *think* will "cut costs" will actually RAISE them - for instance, banning the practice of denying coverage due to *pre-existing* conditions is not a good thing!

However, there should be regulation to make sure insurance companies have clear documents and cannot lie to be like "well that (in reality) post-existing condition was actually (in our lie) pre-existing so we won't cover you."

What we really need is equal representation. In the constitution they set ratios for representation at 30,000 to 1....in 1911 they changed that to 435 representatives, and now we have 700,000 to 1 representation. This needs to change, and change quickly. NO WAY 435 people represent all of Americas opinions, just look at health care, it isn't a 2 sided issue but that's all we got. We need an equal representation act something like:

- 12 year limits (2 terms for a Senator and 6 for a Representative)

- 50,000 to 1 ratio for House of Representatives

- Public funding for all national elections

These simple things go beyond party and would allow our government to get back to working "by the people and for the people"

The origonal Constitution had no limits on the President. That was changed after FDR. Elections are term limits and imposing a mandatory term limit would be a check on the people that exceeds the republican (government style, not party) system as it is.

Now I have indicated in the past that there does exist a third camp and that of the moderate independent voting block, and yet I was scoffed at and virtually laughed at, then first came the general elections in New Jersey and Virginia and then the gubernatorial in New York state and now Massachusetts and now the nae Sayers seem to be ceasing their laughter and name calling.

Americans have to realize what the true meaning of United means in the title of our nations description United States of America stands for: United= as in the following words Unite, United, Uniting. I disagree with their interpretation that this is Constitutional. Corporations are not individuals. A corporation is not a United States citizen.

A corporation should not have the right to support any candidate given that employees working for that corporation may not agree with the candidate that is being supported. In my opinion that is the same as forcing people to support a candidate they would not vote for.

The people who own the corporations are already protected by the Constitution and have the option of giving money to any candidate they choose. They are not having their 1st amendment rights being stifled. They are being given the equivalent of double the rights of the average citizen.

Corporations should never have been allowed to contribute in the first place and they sure as hell should not be given the green light to give as much as they want.

For over a century, it's been settled law via precedent that corporations do have "personhood". Via this personhood, we can sue them and hold them accountable for things I'm sure you want them held accountable for - like pollution, for instance.

If they can be held accountable, it follows they enjoy 1st amendment protection. While I don't necessarily agree that the SCOTUS decision is a good one, I'm also of a mind that that cow has left the barn years ago as to corporate influence on elections and at this point it just levels the playing field - since as has been pointed out, the unions and non-profits who typically lean left have had free rein the entire time.

Not to mention the untold trillions in value that the left gets free, via a bias liberal media - with a couple exceptions, they got Obama elected. Horus, the only way that could happen, the result be the same, is if the all the American voters suffered brain damage. Obama and the Progressives have destroyed trust in the democrat party, the independents are not coming back after being called such names as teabaggers, nazi, astroturf. While the name calling is bad, the real down side of the democratic party is that the moderates allowed the progressives to hijack the party and to run with it. The moderates all heard from the voters during the town hall meetings over the summer, and didn't believe what they heard, but more importantly heard from their progressive leadership that they had to hang together in order to avoid hanging individually. Well, they are all about to hang together in the public square.

The only chance I see for dems in November is if the moderates take control of their party, and throw the progressive out of leadership positions signalling a change in their basic philosophy. Otherwise their is not a single ounce of trust that independents are willing to invest in the dems party.

Fascism is corporatist, one-party control that attempts to squash any opposing viewpoint. It does not support a democratic environment, and by supporting the elimination of the filibuster, the Dems. are seeking to do exactly that. I realize that the idea of fascism is usually associated with the right-wing politics, however given this administrations vacillation between being anti-business BUT being pro-business when it serves their purposes (as in promoting the success of George Soros' business via $2 billion in taxpayer funds to drill in Brazil), I think it applies. The alternative is Marxism, but you will get your undies in a twist on that word, too.

The reality is, no matter what ideology you want to attribute it to, having one party in charge and eliminating the minorities ability to have their voice heard is NOT American, is NOT consistent with the Constitution and as the MA vote clearly illustrated, will not be tolerated in this country when it's ugly head rears and the policies being put forth by the majority in Congress do NOT represent the policies desired by the people who put them there.

RE: The tea parties. What is it with you people that you attack a group of Americans that are doing NOTHING wrong? They are exercising their right to freedom of assembly and speech, and using it to promote an agenda of fiscal responsibility, smaller government and personal liberty.

Much of what Bush passed was actually passed via bi-partisan vote. Much of it sucked, but it was not all Republican.

And lets not forget, the Republicans and by extension Bush's policies were soundly repudiated in '06 and '08. And instead of actual change, we got more of the same crap. Let's just hope we, the voters, are careful enough in our choices in '10 to try to break that cycle.

Porkbevr, projection is a worn out technique. I am only speaking of what is possible by the numbers if people vote a certain way. You are the one who is introducing ideology into things. I'm not here to argue issues or moral opinion. I am just explaining simple facts about election timing as it is set up in the Constitution. There is no fear, I'm pointing out that while what you say is true - that COULD happen - the likelihood of it actually happening is slim to none. And if the Democrats attempt that as a campaign strategy, it will backfire.

I highly doubt they were plants. There could have been a few but I could say that about this blog site too. Nazi and Soviet emblems can be seen on many of the protesters signage but I think that is just from a lack of understanding political extremes as the two are polar opposites. And, even if the Democrats don't employ any kind of strategy to focus on the Senate, what if the same people who turned out for Obama turn out again in the midterms? And if they do, how might it backfire? Each candidate will try to say: "elect so and so to pass health care in the Senate" in their ads.

It was the Reps that threatened to go nuclear back during the whole Alito fiasco. If the Dems don't do it the Reps eventually will. Might as well do it now.

I wish it would happen, but chances are we will never see it. I truly believe we need term limits for our government officials, to prevent them from thinking they are invincible. We need to stick together and email or write our elected officials and let them know we are the one's that elected them and we are also the one's that will not reelected them if they don't do what we want.

The Democrats did not win in 2008, the people elected them in 2008. Why the people give them the job is what has been forgotten.

1. Not to be Bush and the Republican Party.
2. Not to be a warring nation and be our own enemy.
3. Not to be dishonest, deceptive, hidden and vague. Including miss use of power to bully the people. This includes constant attempts to scare the people as a form of distraction from the evil being done.
4. Not to be only a pro-corporate and anti-people nation. Not to trade our tax dollars going to warring corporations to tax dollars for financial and insurance corporations.
5. Not to have jobs disappear/outsourced and unemployment
6. Not to lose our homes due to high interest rates and deceptive lending. Just because someone is not a good credit risk does not mean they should never be given a mortgage. If they cannot pay a mortgage they cannot pay rent. If they can pay affordable rent they can pay an affordable mortgage.
7. Not to have a Supreme Court that took away the rights of the people in the 2000 election to continue to do so by making corporations people and giving them freedom of speech via elections financing.
8. Not to continue the pollution of our environment and planet. This includes the pollution in the costing of energy by energy companies.
9. Not to undo Roe v. Wade. Those who do not believe in abortions should not get them and leave those who do alone.
10. Not to be under the control of only one kind political view and to have the one side forced on everyone. This respect for others views, the Democrats are better at than Republicans. Democrats have more tolerance of difference and less a conversionary policy.
11. Not to have an uneducated or poorly educated people. This I will give the Democrats and their efforts a B+.
12. Not to be the America our forefathers fought against.

14. Not to give control of our healthcare to insurance companies.

We had one party control under Bush but I did not call him a fascist as you claim. And in regards to your "un american" spin on it, I was stating that regardless of ideology, the Constitution makes a dominant party possible and if that troubles you, your issues are with the framers and if the way they set it up is un American to you then what does your idea of an American Constitution look like? So for a year, Democrats have had the White House, a Super Majority in the Senate, and a overwhelming majority in the House, and it wasn't enough to do what they wanted to do. Republicans, without the ability to even get face time on TV, whipped those Democrats for the past year.

But the really amazing part of this is, there are liberals and progressives all around the vine that actually believe this crap. Those poor poor Democrats, only wanting to do good, and those mean mean Republicans that only want to do bad. Blue dog Dems are not actual Dems. They tend to come from conservative parts of the country and are just considered a "less threatening" alternative to a Rep. They are called "conservative Dems". And then there's Lieberman.

I'd say it's one thing to be upfront with who you are and what you believe, and totally another pretending to be something to get votes, when in reality you are something else, far from what you claim. Wouldn't you agree?

Do a little research on the Green Party, or what is being referred to today as "Progressives" and ask yourself, anybody stand up and say anything close to this during the campaign? Of course not, because Progressives know they have to hide who they are and what they stand for. The American people will always reject Progressives if they are upfront about what they intend to do.

We do not diagree that many are pretending to be something they are not.

Quite frankly I believe both the Dems and Reps are just playing roles. It seems to work in their favor. It keeps Americans too divided to see that underneath it all they really do have the same agendas. Give the public just enough to keep them quiet or start a bunch of rhetoric to distract them.

Support an opposing idea if it is the one you think will work? Yes. Support either party? No.

And I do believe you're right about the Progressives or anyone that is upfront about what they intend to do because the country is so divided that there is no way to make everyone happy. The Dems and Reps have seen to that.

I believe that people actually believe there is no way to compromise. On issues of morality? No. But on all other things - we all actually want the same things we just disagree on how to do it.

The moral issues can be dealt with simply by upholding our Constitution. Since we are all in charge of our own moral barometers morals shouldn't be legislated. Just follow the laws. People won't always like it but if they really believe in the Constitution then they'll learn to live with it.

I hope the republican part, will go back to being the republican party.

G Bush was a a Dem Lite, J McCain was a Dem Lite, no difference of any importance between the two.

As a registered independent, I have always voted across the lines, usuallly to the more conservative, I confess to voting for Jimmy Carter, yeah yeah, I know i'd like to be able to say I was ingesting a foreign substance , but I was sober and am still unable to explain that vote.

I passed on Obama and McCain, last year first time since I started voting, so I have to accept some responsibility for Obama.

I just hope I have a choice, next time.
