Good for him. It is time to stop trying to get along with the Republicans. They care nothing about this country or proper behavior. I am embarrassed to have ever called myself one. I now see them for the disgusting crooks they are and will never again vote for a Republican.
I also am ashamed of being one. Now I am a real republican not the islamic/religious freeks that have hijacked my party in the name of their delusion visions they call commands from God. When Sarah Palin is run out of GOP town on a rail, real Republicans may consider it safe to go back in the water. Until then, keep your money in your wallet guys.
Where, oh where, are the Republicans of yesteryear? I never liked Nixon, but he did try to provide healthcare. Today, they probably would kick him out of the party. Would Barry Goldwater even be allowed now?
To be in the Republican party today, you can't believe in evolution but you need to be a member of an evangelical megachurch somewhere, you have to support carrying guns into colleges, churches and Starbucks, you have to be anti-intellectual, you have to support First Amendment and other constitutional rights for big corporations, and you have to be suspicious of too much education.
The country needs reasonable people of both liberal and conservative inclinations to function at its best, but the conservative wing has been taken over by extremists. When will reasonable conservatives show them the door?
It says a lot when the current crop of GOP so-called leaders can make Richard Nixon look good. Actually, had a lot more going for him than these buffoons.
Sounds like our Communist Muslim Dictator is acting like the spoiled child again. Any day now he should be announcing himself as Dictator for LIFE. We need a rail alright, but it t is to PUT every LYING, THIEVING DEMOCRAT on it and run them OUT of the country.
The move immediately deepened the divide between the Democratic president and Republicans in the Senate following a long, bruising fight over health care.
Hard to imagine how it could be any deeper than it is now, but things can always get worse, unfortunately.
It's way past time for trying to work with the repugs. No matter what the situation, they will always say no. They're not looking out for the country, just their own party and agenda. It's time to ignore them for the marginal party that they are and get the work of the country done. Good move, Mr President.
The Republicans are so over the top with hypocrisy it would be funny if their lies weren't threatening our country's unity. The rightwingers are protesting because our President is trying to get things done. The alternative is for Obama to sit and do nothing, and that's not what he got elected to office for. What specifically do the Republicans want from Obama and the Democrats and all the millions of Americans who put them into office? Once again the Republicans and their followers show the world the worst of America and their disdain for democracy.
MAW...How is he sneaky? Repubs were warned to stop dragging their feet and they thumbed their collective noses and went on vacation. Obama went ahead and used a legal procedure to fill these posts. Maybe the Repubs will get a clue that they can participate or step aside.
"Once again the administration showed that it had little respect for the time honored constitutional roles and procedures of Congress," said Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Obama's foe in the 2008 presidential election. "This is clear payback by the administration to organized labor.""....I have to wonder just what constitutiona; rolls McCain is refering to...could not be the ones he and all the othyers in congress ignore every day...could not be refering to the wasted time they in congress do geting nothing done other than patting each other on the back about stopping the other party from doing anything worth while. Could not be the fact that congress backs wall street and their friends rather than the tax payers stuck with paying them. If any of these reps were worthy of doing the jobes they were elected to do there would not be empty seats in committees of any kind...And to talk about pay back when every congress person running for office pays back those that help get them re-elected in one way or another all the time...maybe hes refering to all of those in congress, not just the president...cause surely he should.
Recess appointments are authorized by Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution: "The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session." ..Ronald Reagan made 243 recess appointments during his two terms in office; George H. W. Bush made 77 during his single term, most notably Lawrence Eagleburger for U.S. Secretary of State in 1992, who had in effect filled that role after James Baker resigned. In his first six years in office, President George W. Bush, made 167 recess appointments. So Obama is just doing his job like all the former Presidents do but it's wrong if YOU don't agree with him. I'll say it again, "Winning the election has it's privileges and Obama is just using his to run our country. GOBAMA ...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recess_appointment
Bush had 8 controversial recess appointments while he was in office. The Republicans, I am finding, have very, very short memories. I have never seen such obstructionism in my lifetime. Pathetic.
WTF? With all Obama has done to ruin the country, when exactly has he been waiting? What about all his Czars that he appointed before?
All I can say to those of you still blindly worshipping this guy is wake the hell up before you realize that you are now his servants and he has established himself as king of the land. There are purposes in the three branches of government - which clearly this jacka$$ cares nothing about.
What happened to the "great uniter"? All Obama has done from day one is lie, go back on campaign promises, adopt a health insurance bill with the very provisions he blasted Hillary for wanting, and most importantly DIVIDE the nation. He cries about needing bipartisan support all while spitting in the face of everyone he is supposed to represent. If ever a president needed impeachment it is this one.
Oh... Obama will go down in history as a "historic President" alright. The first black man elected, the first president to "Force feed" the polulation the first steps of socialism in this health care bill... the first President to actually bankrupt America, and the first President to put the US in a third world status. Yes... ain't this hope and change grand....
What's this crap about using recess appointments for the first time? This was purposefully or accidentally poorly worded. This is just the first time Obama has used it. In his first six years in office, Bush made 167 recess appointments, including a few real losers. Every President in modern times has used. It was used in the thousands of times by Presidents before 1983 when the Post Office was a cabinet-level function. Thousands of Postmaster appointments had to be confirmed --- and in lots of places, the Postmaster was also the sorter, deliverer, and stamp seller. So, a President making thousands of recess appointments is okay, but Obama making 15 is going to bring down the skies?
The Republican intellectual brain-trust plan: Force the dems to do nothing for four years and then lambast them for doing nothing. Vote for Republicans we get things done. We spend trillions of dollars on lots of wars. Yea us!
Now they're mad because America voted for more democrats than Repubs so they can get things done. Of course, it's not the American voters fault, it's the democrats.
idiots all including the voters. America clearly deserves what it is: a representative government with political representatives that represent the voter.s
You dems keep laughin, wait until you see how many more jobs and businesses are lost once these union lawyers get in and start making rules that you have to follow to keep your'e job. Wait until they try to get the card syustem to go thru. Your'e all a bunch of dumbazzez that don't have any idea what is going down. You will when your'e unemployed, if your'e not already on welfare!!!
Bellagio: The problem with statements like yours is that it downplays the slaughter and destructiveness practiced by Mussolini, not to mention that it makes you look pitifully uninformed. What exactly is Obama doing that is so much worse than Mussolini? Do you even know anything about Mussolini?
Obama was elected to office by a majority of the people, so now he is trying to do the things he was elected to do. That's how our form of democracy works. How would you like it if a Republican wins the next election and the Democrats stopped him or her from doing anything? Would you be okay with that? Of course, then you have to ask yourself if that is really the best way to run our country. The bottom line is, it's looking like the Republicans no longer respect democracy and would prefer some form of Totalitarianism with Republicans in control. That would be the only way to get you guys to shut your pie holes.
Billybob: Just how do Republicans justify waging war on Iraq in order to bring them democracy, but then you preach against it for our own country, assuming you are an American? Obama hasn't done anything radical or illegal. He's done nothing the Republicans themselves haven't done. The only thing radical going on right now is this radical anti-democracy movement being waged by the rightwingers.
rrobeson:
Obama won not because he was experienced but because he was not Bush...plain and simple. Obama scares me because he has a lot of the left believing that he is working for them and wants too serve the people. He is on a power trip like no ther President before him. This administration has taken over 40% of the private sector in just over a year. Sooner or later you will wake up and realize some of your freedoms are gone and wonder how it all happened. The government is too big...and it is growing more and more...too bad the jobs are not in companies that actually pay taxes. If Obama cared about Americans his first order of business this last year would have been job jobs jobs...
For awhile they were playing the part of conservative cowards pretty well... but they can't even handle that any more.
All I hear now is boo-hooing, whing, tantrums, and stomping of their feet.
And now come the threats of violence (as all school yard bullies do when no one pays attention to them) and civil disorder, none of which they are intelligent enough to coordinate in the first place.
Poor bigoted, racist Republicans. Americans are waking up to your garbage. More every day. Everyone is seeing you for what you are.
What are you going to do now?
What will happen to your party after your next round of huge losses in November?
And now the whiny little republicans have something else to throw a temper tantrum over. They'll cry, stomp their feet, scream at the top of their lungs and start throwing things. They'll scream that the world is ending, socialism is taking over.
Well, you little whiny boys, too bad!!! And let me point it out to you in case you forgot... Elections have consequences and you lost. The adults are running the country now. So take your little whine fest and go to your room, You're grounded for the next 7 years!
It seems to me that Bush could do no wrong, and President Obama can do no right. I am sick and tired of the republican party trying to obstruct the programs of President Obama. I'm still waiting on my bailout. If it were up to the republicans, the only people who would be able to get decent healthcare would be the very rich and the very poor, with we of the middle class having to foot the bill. This has got to stop, and the only way to put and end to this is to vote those republicans who put the needs of the very rich and big corporations first, and the needs of middle class Americans last, out of office.
Heaven forbid that the GOP doesn't want a bunch of commies in office. I really wonder where my Dem party went. Look around Obama Americans, he has associated w/the same people Americahas fought to defend the rest of the world against. Radicalism has NO place in AMERICAN politics. Saul, and the radical bomber of federal buildings what is it going to take to make the rest of us wake T F up??? I know the poor house and it better be big cause will all be living there.
Who cares...if they aren't doing their jobs they have to be confirmed again after the elections. There is concern about a major campaign promise of transparency. Although common, these particular recess appointments should have been announced with a deadline for congress and when the deadline came and went Obama should have made his appointments. Trouble is he owes the Dems and couldn't make them look bad so he made the choice to piss off the Republicans instead. Of course the voters are upset again with this guy as he forgets everyday who put him in the oval office.
watt75: "This administration has taken over 40% of the private sector in just over a year." How can you possibly entertain such nonsense. Just how is it that he's taken over 40% of the private sector? That's ridiculous. Grow up. What rights of yours have been taken away? Let's see you list. So you're saying that Obama has taken over 40% of America's industries. Is Boeing one of them? Walmart is our biggest employer, is Obama running Walmart? Exxon? Google? What industries are now being run by the Obama Administration that were't controlled by the government a year ago? Let's here your 40% worth.
a pro union lawyer in the government is a real winner for more job loses. obama just doesnt seem to like our democratic process. maybe he should move to some socialist country. maybe one of those he bowed down to.
The "Party of No" sounds disingenuous if they pretend to be shocked that the President isn't going to put up with their petty obstructionism.
Can't wait for the Nov. elections when this whole strategy of non-cooperation backfires on the G.O.P. -- the American people have never supported an obstructionist party.
The Republican party has lost its way, given over to childishness and extremism within the party.
Ginchinchili:
So sorry I misspoke. The have 40% control of everything, banking, auto industry, student loans, healthcare..ect ect...yes they did have control of some...the ones that are really messed up fannie and freddie...which has been in a downhill slide for a decade. If Obama was running walmart it would not be successful as it is today...I wish the people who were running walmart were running the government. Why do you put so much faith in the government? Based on what? Everything they touch is messed up? I am not anti-Obama I am anti-big government. I can not even name a potential presidential canadiate that I would support. They are all either power hungry egomaniacs or spineless.
Obama is riding high on his horse now, but I hear hooves in the distance. REPUBLICAN HOOVES...and they will knock him off his high horse on November 2nd!
More power to the President. The Republicans have been total hypocrits on this issue. I remember how they cried and moaned over rushing GWB's appointments through and talked about an "up or down" vote on appointees. Now that they are in the minority the story is totally different and once again they illustrate to all watching that they have decided not to do their jobs and not work with this administration. Their behavior is childish and offensive and I hope every last one of them losses their job in November. Get to work or get out.
I think it's interesting to hear the Dems whine when what they did to George Bush is now being done to them. What hypocrites! The rules they want everyone else to live by don't apply to them.
Hey there buffalo bob: Clear me up on this democratic process you so admire. You know, the one where a majority is 60 of 100, not 51 of 100. Tell me about that democratic process where 40 senators can hang their hats on every single poll that comes out, but can't grasp the significance of the one that put the Democrats in power. Tell me about that democratic process where one party can hold up almost 300 bills. Tell me about that democratic process where ONE intransigent senator can hold up unemployment benefits for hundreds of thousands of citizens. Tell me about that democratic process where ONE senator can hold up ALL appointments to extort pork.
Get your head out bob. That's Republicans trashing this democracy, not Democrats.
Democrats are clearly playing within the rules. Now that's the change we wanted. That hopey changey thing is looking pretty good to me.
The Republicans obstruct appointments and then they howl when those jobs are filled so that progress can be made. Bolton and others are examples of the Republican hypocritical selective memory. It is fine for them to do this but not right for anyone else to do the same thing.
Do you people listen to yourselves?? Do you really think either side cares about YOU Joe Blow? They are not interested in our causes, they LOVE to hear people fight when all they are really doing is planning for their next election. Stop the fighting! Thats why nothing ever gets done in this country!
Okay, watt75, let's suppose you're right. Let's take the area that started all of this--healthcare. Please explain to us exactly how the Obama Administration is running America's healthcare system. I'm looking forward to your explanation. Maybe I'll learn something here.
Great going, Mr. President....you have named several people to fill vacancies who have either worked on Wall Street (now what did you call these folks before ? Oh, yeah.....FAT CATS) or who are now working in Unions (must have been SEIU nominees). Pay back time again, again, and again. These appointments are really going to help bolster your Financial Reform and Unemployment Stimulus (oh....Jobs Bill).
I am waiting for the Progressive Democrats to start their name calling, saying posters are ignorant, and making reference to God in their posts when they should be targeting their energy to their voter base at the end of their dark tunnel - Social Justice leading to.......gonna be a New Government Name Change......
Obama you the man, I like that attitude it's about time, hell they want to always play their stupid games now they can stomp their feet and cry like the little girls they are ...... LOL LOL LOL
The Repukes of this country are sore losers because of how the Democrats have moved this country forward. It didn't take Pres Obama less than 2 years to get our economy turned around. Obama is progressive and work hard for the American people. Unlike Bush, who worked hard for his inner circle cronies in the oil business. Obama is for the people, and is getting things done for our nation. He is definetly a 2 term president.
Just like almost every other form of information, this blog has been taken over by the Liberal Plants. I would not be surprised at all if they even get prior notice before an article is to be released. This is blatant subversion of free speech/opinion and another way to steal. The Progressive Liberal Marxists are out of control and threaten to eliminate yet another freedom... the freedom of Speech. Wake up America... the Obama administration is dead set on stealing all your freedom and to make this a government run state.
Did you miss the part about W.'s 140 recess appointments? Does anyone have the number of recess appointments Reagan made? I'd be wiling to bet it's far greater than Obama's 15. If so does that not make W. and Reagan tryants as well according to your logic?
You people are acting like clowns who totally lack the ability to put anything into perspective. I'm getting sick and tired of this garbage.
This article should have been headlined "A desperate Obama quickly uses backdoor politics to sneak his picks into office." I can't wait to see what problems this newest bunch of Obama's disciples has. He must have felt he had to sneak then in the back door or face losing at least some of them. So much for his promise of "transparency" Oh, well, he is after all a politician so I never expected him to been any different than the rest.
I do see the humor is this manner of backdoor politics though. Obama is acting like a teenager having a party while mom and dad are out of town for the weekend. I expected more from the Impostor in Chief, but I guess sometimes you get what you pay for. I didn't vote for him nor support his campaign so I have nothing invested in him. In that light only, I paid nothing and got nothing in return.
One last thought" Obama as little as I think of him, is no dummy. He can see the writing on the wall and what is coming his way in November 2010. He knows that he had better use Congress as often as he can between now and then because after that date many of his puppets will be gone.
Craig P: "I'm getting sick and tired of this garbage." You are not alone. The rightwingers have dropped all pretense of reason and now have become a party of followers who are unable to think for themselves, so they have the rightwing leadership do it for them. Perfect situation for people in power to manipulate the populace. Worked like a charm for Hitler.
Of course they will say that it is the rest of us who are drowning in ideological Koolaid. I would just point to the fact that the Republicans are pretty much all like-minded where as the Democrats have embraced diversity because, well it's the right thing to do for countless reasons. The Democratic Party's greatest strength is also their weakness--their diversity, the "go to" party for free thinkers.
I'm just telling it like it is. If you look at the people in these Tea Bagger rallies they look exactly like the people you'd see at a Republican cookout. And it's no coincidence that if not for the uniforms, a Nazi gathering would have that same look to it. Aryan Power! Total Rule!
Ernie: Getting the Democrats out of Congress, before they have a chance to finish cleaning up Bush's mess, and replacing them with Repubs and another era of Bush-like policies would finish off America as we know it. That's how we got in this mess in the first place. By any measure, Bush's 8 years were a disaster. Surely even you can see that. Wake up and let those who the American people elected to office do their job. What is it you don't understand about democracy?
Glen Beck, Sara Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney...why are Republicans so enamored with assclowns? Why are they so repulsed by intelligence and rational thinking? Why are they willing to lean so dangerously toward the ideology of the Third Reich?
Whats with all the collapsed comments, if you can't take the heat stay the hell out of the kitchen but don't collapse the comments, everyone has the right to their views I don't care if they agree or disagree ......
President Obama IS the president of the United States! He gets to pick his cabinet and heads of federal agencies.
As much as I abhorred the presidency of President G.W. Bush's, he was well within his right to use recess appointments to select his people. The GOP, when they return to power, can do the same thing... again.
The perpetual whining and sniveling that is characterizing much of politics in both political houses poorly serves the people of the United States.
The inflammatory diatribes from media figures, such as Glen Beck, Keith Olbermann, etc., border on a kind of hate speech, inciting poor, if not criminal, behavior in some segments of society.
Hmm... Barry's tired of waiting? FOR WHAT??? I thought there were 60 Democrats in the Senate, until the recent Mass. election. Wouldn't that be a (umm...let's see here) A MAJORITY??? Obo is tired of waiting? For the Republicans? Is that the best line he can come up with? I MEAN, REALLY!!!
Actually Mo-493478, there were 58 Dem seats in the Senate in 2008. In 2006, the Dems had 49 and the Republican Party also held 49 (a commonly misquoted number is 51 Dem seats, but they fail to realize that the extra two seats were not Democrats, but independents). Stating an Independent is 'just another democrat' is disingenuous at best. There is a reason they don't claim to be Democrat. One of them lost his seat to a Democrat and although they may often vote with the Democratic block, this is not always the case (hence the independent label).
It's called a simple majority. The Democrats didn't have even a simple majority in both houses until 2008. The Republican party held both houses for 12 years and tied with Dems in the Senate from 2006 to 2008.
In full review of the appointments already made by Obama, many so radical some are already gone through statements previous dealing with approval of former communist and affiliations it is a no brain-er he can not appoint the best person for the job but the most radical for the job. They must share his socialist and communist views or be affiliated with SEIU.
"To sit back hoping someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last- but eat you he will". Ronald Reagan.
I'm so disappointed. My comments didn't get collapsed. Exactly what is the criteria here because, after reading the collapsed comments, I haven't found anything that would constitute censorship. Apparently the RNC plants are out in force today.
Oh, by the way, good job Mr. President. While the repugs whine and cry and have sparsely attended rallies to complain about nothing, you and the Democratic members in Congress are getting the job done. Keep it up. The way I see it, the more wingnuts complain, the more you must be doing something right.
Oh the horror of it!! Oh the inhumanity!! Using the rights as given you to perform the duties given you as enumerated by the Constitution!! Holy Cr@p, Mr. President! The sky will be falling out of the chicken little right wing sky all over again.
The work needs be done whether or not Republicans want to take their ball home because they didn't get picked by the team they wanted (America) or not. It's apparently dawning on President Obama that he's in a 'd@mned if I do and d@mnedif I don't' situation in any case and any situation where ever the GOP and it's accolytes of doom and gloom are concerned.
Mr President, if you don't make the appointments they go to their constituents and say "We stopped the SocialistaLiboCommiFascistDumbocratMuslimlovinPoligist cold... donate more money" while complaining "See? He's and his congress are do-nothings" to the nation at large.
So... good... take the bull by the horns and do the work you were hired to do. You can satisfy all of the people a moment or two, non of the people all of the time, or some of the people some of the time. I'm glad you're finally making a decisive choice. You're not going to get everyone to like you but you just may get some people like myself to join a bit with those who already do.
too funny, rayven. i don't call myself a republican anymore either...nor a democrat. they are BOTH just as crooked as the other. twice now obama has bypassed our constitutional law to pass something he wanted. he is a crook of the highest order.
someone further down said obama was voted in by the majority. that actually isn't true, so they must not understand about how our votes are counted. but it is indeed true that we get what we vote for. i think you people are in for some serious surprises over the next few years.
Great! President Obama should ignore the do nothing, no idea's Republicans and their ignorant teabagger minions and just do what's right for the country. Who cares what they think. Did the Repukes care when Democrats were begging Dubya the Dimwit to wait for evidence of WMD before committing our troops to Iraq? No way! Remember how the patriotism of intelligent people was questioned because they objected? Now half of the country has been dumbed down by the smirking twits at FOX Lies and Nazi Propaganda Central, and it's time the brilliant Barack Obama just stopped asking for their input.
Just like almost every other form of information, this blog has been taken over by the Liberal Plants.
Don't bother, Dennis-956826. Crystal balling about other Viners' political history is a waste of your time. If you didn't read #1 last time, read it now.
Your'e all a bunch of dumbazzez that don't have any idea what is going down. You will when your'e unemployed, if your'e not already on welfare!!!
Above all else, respect others. Address issues and arguments and refrain from making personal attacks. If you see something disrespectful or inappropriate, report it - rather than further inflaming the situation.
Even the Dems might not have approved Becker. For those of you who think he's such a good appointee, watch what he & the unions are up to. For those of you who don't understand corruption and favortism, time to wake up.
Let me see... The right wing is suggesting that the administration to bring in someone who is corporate executive background whose companies has exploited laborers. That would make a better candidate? Second, when is it wrong to for workers to meet and form an union? Remember Haymarket? Finally, this is his first recess appointment, after a long string of attempts to get both sides to come to it senses to allow the government to operate. Look at TSA? Why is there not a chief appointed? Oh wait, Republican Congressman held up their vote. Yet the Republican has not problem forcing TSA to purchases security equipments without a chief to oversee the operation...
Republican Congress: You had your chance to make your voice heard through voting and open discussions. Your time has come and gone, because your insistence to play politics instead of legislating.
I'm still trying to figure out why we have unions involved in the government. Aren't unions supposed to protect the worker from the evil Robber Barrons?
What are you talking about when you refer to transparency. Stop blabbering about RIGHT WING TALKING points. All 15 candidates were known and presented to Congress long ago. The Republicans held up voting.
Remember one of the recent one that was voted through received 96 or 98 YES.. and 0 NO. He was held up for 3+ months. What is up with that? You hold up a candidate repeatedly because you don't like his/her credentials and background. But ZERO NO VOTE!!!! Those are clear evidence of attempts to impede government (administration) operation.
Now you are claiming the Unions are involved in the government? Where is the evidence of that? Do you even know how many people are in the Unions now a days? This is a job that involves LABOR and LABORERS... Where is candidate's involvement with Union? It was suggested by some of the Conservatives that he may be PRO-UNION. You Right Wing Ditto Heads still don't have the guts to call a SPADE , a SPADE. Now you are trying to divert attention by questioning transparency? Where did you go to school, Bohner U??
Oh, the Congressmen that made those suggestions are ones who have foreign auto factories in their state (non-union)... of course!
Cool... of course that doesn't change the offensive things being said, does it? So, that just means another opportunity for collapsing your thread. While I could admire your persistence - I would also suggest that people may not find a topic as offensive as they find the manner in which it is presented.
David Duke ... took of his robes, got some dental work, and started talking in code. then ran for public office. Proof positive that crap sells, if - you call it fertilizer.
Tell a woman that she is "old" and she takes offense... tell her she is to be admired for your mature outlook on life and you may have a Friend.
Either that - or maybe, some folks just think you are full of crap? But I do know that only 1 or 2 people is not enough to collapse a thread - I don't know what the magic number is, but I assume it must be "substantial"!
The people crying about their "freedoms being taken away by Obama", shouldn't be trying to collapse/censor other people's opinions/posts. Especially if it isn't vulgar or personally attacking them.
The Senate VOTED AGAINST Becker! They voted him down! Then Obama appoints him anyway!??! AMAZING. Obama just doesnt like it when people dare to disagree with him and he will just find a weasley way to circumvent the traditional rules.
Democracy is so slow and inefficient when you want it your way and now. That whole pesky Senate and Congress are just getting in Obama's way and so are 70 percent of the U.S. population. Facism is so much more satisfying for our Master. And he does know best. Thank you Master Barack.
The Senate didn't vote against Becker. The vote was in favor but he didn't get 60 votes. With the party of no filibustering everything 60 votes is needed to get an up or down vote.
The Senate did not vote against Becker. You are sorely misinformed. The Democrats have been unable to break a Republican filibuster of the appointment. Nevertheless in cloture vote, the Senate voted 52-33 to end the filibuster and move forward to approve the appointment. A clear majority of the Senate was in facor of the appointment. Unfortunately, it takes a supermajority of 60 votes to end a filibuster. As a result, President Obama used his constitutional powers to fill the vacancy.
Nice racism there, Newton. I'm shocked to hear a racist statement from the right...wait, no I'm not...
What President Obama and the Democrats are doing is legal and follows the laws...or else they wouldn't be able to do it...
The Republicans have been using every procedure they can to block President Obama. I like that he is now using every procedure he can to do what we sent him there to do. If you don't like it, vote him out. but it's 2010 and there's no one in sight on the Republican side that has a snowball chance in hell against him.
Excuse me, but just how many appointments did Bush make this way? It's okay when you're side does it? Remember the saying ... what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander? Or to put it another way ... you can't have it both ways!!!!
Clearly if the Massah does it then it must be the right thing to do. Everyone knows the majority of the people have no idea whats good for them and we all get tired of waiting for those Senators and Congressman to follow the Massah. Massah will save us no matter what we think we want. Massah knows best and Massah can do it legally and even if it's not legal, we all BELIEVE in the Massah. Thank you Massah.
On the day the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments about a deadlocked National Labor Relations Board, leading Chief Justice John Roberts to query why the administration hadn't given a recess appointment to its nominee, Craig Becker, labor allies of the White House have been given strong indications that such an appointment is highly likely.
Recall that the White House pointedly refused to appoint Becker during the last recess but reserved the right to do so in the future. It was a warning aimed at Republicans who had held up the Becker nod for a year. (Becker is widely seen as being favorable to labor's interests, having been a lawyer for the SEIU and AFL-CIO unions.) Now that Obama has taken off the gloves, gotten health care reform passed, and hasn't yet put them back on, Becker's appointment looks likely.
Even the Supreme Court head wanted him to do it. Geez
don't forget Newton... if you disagree in any way with Obama.... you must be a racist. That is what the liberals say due to their lack of anything of intelligence when dealing with actual issues.
I had no idea Newton was racist until he started posting denigrating words associated with slaves in the old south. A lot of good people disagree with the president that aren't racist.
retired don't forget that republicans love to blame the entire recession on Obama when in reality it was on Bush's watch that it happened and he did nothing. I think the people still remember this although you doubtless do not.
jeff... have you seen the increase in deficit??? Obama surpassed Bush's entire presidency in that department in his first year alone....
Don't forget, when you blame the deficit on the war... that it wasn't only Bush... You have nearly EVERY democratic congressman and senator on record as stating that we needed to go in and stop Saddam... (even Hillary) But you conveniently leave those facts out... Yes the war cost a lot... Your master Obama spends as if we have a money tree growing at the white house.
No they actually lied about the recession McCain's campaign director former senator (R) from Texas Phil Gramm I think (correct me if I am wrong) said just weeks before the banks failing said we were in a "mental recession" and that the economy was just fine. Palin and MCain were in agreement with this positive (wishful) thinking point of view. If there had been no emergencies with AIG and the banks they would have kept up the bluff. Even now they refuse to vote for jobs bills. Or offer any real alternatives. Like why not put up a bill to stop all H1B visas until unemployment is under 3%. That would not even cost anything.
don't forget Newton... if you disagree in any way with Obama.... you must be a racist. That is what the liberals say due to their lack of anything of intelligence when dealing with actual issues.
marine, since when are lies and character assasination means of intelligent discussion? only the slavish followers of talk radio hosts consider their screaming drivel as intelligent.
the Senate actually voted to confirm Becker 52 - 43, they did not vote him down. Check your facts before you spew your right wing talking point which are generally not very near reality. What actually happened to Becker is that a MINORITY of Republicans filibustered him so he never got an up or down vote. Republicans are amazing at trying to rewrite history, oh and by the way Bush did over 179 of these recess appointments.
"Once again the administration showed that it had little respect for the time honored constitutional roles and procedures of Congress," said Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Obama's foe in the 2008 presidential election. "This is clear payback by the administration to organized labor."
Both Republican and Democratic presidents have made recess appointments, which circumvents the Senate's authority to confirm nominees, when they could not overcome delays. President George W. Bush made more than 170 such appointments in his two-term presidency.
-----------------------------------------------
ONCE AGAIN, Johnny McCain whines because he lost the majority for his party. Once again, he shows that he suffers from short term memory loss. Hey Johnny, did YOU complain when DUB made over 170 recess appointments?
Obama is acting like a teenager who's parents are out of town for the weekend. PARTY TIME! I can't wait to see what baggagethis newest bunch brings in with them. Should be good since Obama was afraid to get them in the normally legal way and had to resort to backdoor politics. Oh well I have believed for a very long time that he thinks he is our dictator not POTUS, and doesn't care what we common people think. I guess this is just one more step in revealing the true Obama Agenda for America. CHANGE YOU CAN SEE as long as it's the Obama way.
Obama is going to step over the line on this one. Watch all the Senators and Representatives blow a gasket. They'll be bipartisan on this one for sure. Stepping on his own parties toes is not going to make him popular at all.
Time to impeach the little Chavez before he goes any farther! He's certainly found all the backdoor tricks and using them!
As usual, facts just seem to elude you. The Republicans in the Senate voted against him, and if you didn't just crawl out from under a rock, you should know that the Repubs entire agenda has been to obstruct everything this President has tried to accomplish. Time stands still for no one, and the business of the country has to move forward. The Repubs are a party of slogans, nothing of substance has come from them, except maybe Sarah Palin. Well, you see what I mean?
Excellent move by President Obama, who's showing more and more backbone. First, healthcare, now this. You conservative Repubs and Tea Partiers really should chill out and stop sounding like hypocrites (which you won't, of course). Many a President in the past (Bush II included, along with Bush I and your boy Reagan) have done this. If the Repubs in the Senate aren't in favor of this, then they should simply provide for President Obama's nominees with an up or down vote, it's that simple. But "simple" isn't something you conservatives understand, do you, unless it's in your favor?
Traditional...that is why we are divided and not united! We need these traditionalist to move on and open their eyes to present and future progress. I thought these SERVANTS were working for the people and I feel this self serving attitude only stagnates and finally comes up with a STINK! Do we live in a Democracy?
I'm glad to see that now we have a President who will not allow the whinning republicans to continually obstruct the running of the government. He has given them ample chances to be a part of the government and they refuse to join but would rather play political games.
The "Senate" did not vote against Becker - the Republican portion of the Senate continued their promise to refuse to perform the job they were all elected to, and very well paid, to do! They pledged total denial of anything Democratic - ie. taking part in the governing of our country! Refuse to perform your duties in the "real world" and see how fast you are fired!!
They were given an opportunity to participate by President Obama during the year wasted in attempting to get any co-operation or envolvement from the Republican legislators - that is far more than Bush gave the minority during his administration! Bush appointed over 170 positions during "Recess" during his two term administration!
All this BS regarding all the legal actions to "Repeal" the Health Reform Bill - or anything else passed during this, or any, administration is just that......BS! Impossible, can't be done as the President of every administration has the power of THE VETO!! All the hipe, press releases and letters requesting money to "pay for this legal battle" is nothing more than a blatant lie and simple means of raising more money to fund their re-election campaigns! The proper word to best describe these actions is FRAUD against citizens who are not aware of the facts regarding the Repeal Process!! If folks wish to donate money to the GOP, to support elected officials who refuse to do the work they were hired and paid for by US taxpayers - dig deep, throw bushels of it at them - its the American way. Just don't be foolish enough to believe that any part of that money is going towards any litigation that could in any way Repeal or change the Health Reform Bill - your being played.....BIG TIME!
If you want the Republican voice and vote of your legislators to count, tell them to get off their fannies and do the work you hired them to do! The Republican legislators have no one to blame for these appointments during recess except themselves! President Obama EVEN told them that he would make recess appointments IF they didn't act before they took off on yet another vacation!! LOL The Party No just made themselves the Party of NO SAY, by refusing to do their jobs!! Unreal........
The founders of our country never intended for 60 votes to be required to pass anything in the Senate. Such was the ruling of a 1892 Supreme Court decision on the subject.
The Republicans threatened to invoke it in 2003, using a simple majority to end the rule, but backed down. The Filibuster Rule was as unconstitutional then as it is today.
It's time we ditch the Filibuster Rule once and for all.
the last thing america needs is to operate with unions, and union style. those millions of jobs that were supposed to be saved AND crated next year with a good chunl of the funny money he had printed up went where? Teachers, fire fighter, law enforcement, union work. Screw Nobama and his masta plan.
Republicans need to just go away. Do you reallly want to have the country run like "your guy" Bush? Bush ruined it for all of us, even you.
Bush appointed many during recesses, so stop whining.
We are in a crisis because of Republicans and Bush. You can't fix a catastophy in a year. it will take years to fix the damage that Bush did to us and the stupid Republicans that supported him. Lookmat history: Good economies were under Democratic Leadership. bad economies are under Republicans. Republicans only do one thing: cut taxes. like that's going to solve it all.
Republicans continue to be the party of no, and the party of DEATH.
Becker got a majority (53 votes) but the appointment was stalled by rules that allow a gotcha game to play out in the Senate.
Obama recognizes that there are those whose views differ from his. However, it should be no surprise that as President he is working to implement his plans for the country; that is any President's prerogative until a new POTUS is elected. Recess appointments seem to have become part of the traditions and their use is no more "weasley" than when other Presidents have used the option. Let's stop the name calling.
schnubbes, you seem to forget that G.W. Bush did the same damn thing and when the democrats questioned it the good old republicans said tough sh it - BUT as anyone with brains and a memory know that republicans do not have a very long attention span and tend to act like little kids who had their ice cream stolen by the local town bully
Bravo Mr. President. Six or seven months is long enough---far too long---for the Repugnicants to hold up your appointees. Bush appointed around 160-170 "recess-appointees" and you are getting your drawers in a snit over a few (and only after over 6 months of Republican delaying tactics). It's about time some pro-labor appointees got in a position of power. We have all seen what happens to the economy when Big Biz and it's cronies, the Repugnicants have power for so long.
Maybe instead of talking crap, as to how one side is going to shoot the other over Nobama's BS, you, all of you might start looking at who you are going to vote for this comming election. This isnt about party anymore, its about keeping oor freedom as americans. You all in favor of Nobama the clown, call the republican side fear mongers, same from the other side as well, fact is both sides have been playing us for the past 19 years, and i say enough! Start listing to what this moronic administration has been saying, and then doing. The last so called budget...millions of jobs were going to be saved, and created. what happend with that? Where did all that F'ing $ go? To the teachers, firefighters, lawenforcment, union workers. (transportation). To cover salaries, and raises for the year 2009. No jobs created, no jobs saved, as he said there was going to be. ALL these people had no fear of even loosing their F'ing jobs to begin with!!! The previous admin. was no better, and this isnt the 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd time Nobama the clown has said one thing, and done another, and to both sides, if this moron hasn't since day one showed you his true colors, i feel for ya, because i hate to say it, but you are some really stupid people. I dont care what party Nobama is from, repub, or dem, he's a f'ing scam man, and you all play into it. He is dishonest, a liar, a cheat, and a fear monger, and a lot better than Bush was at it. Dont think for 1 min Bush isn't sitting in his little kick azz recliner watching the news having a hell of a laugh at how we are at eachothers throats, and over who, and what party. As far as idiots go, the majority of america takes the cake. Calling people whatever because of party, and clinging to party, and for what? Put you party aside, and dont even call it a party, just look at what it is, and what it is doing not just for you, but for america! that what your party should be doing, is looking out for america andi dont see it on either side as it should be. This Clown in office now, how he has made it this long, without taking a bullet, i have noooo idea. He has done nothing but pass bogus bills, and pit one side against the other since day f'ing one, and look at you all....you all fall for it.
Me come elction time..... I am going to vote not for whatever party, but the guy who i think is going to cover my azz, and do the best job in office. To see i have a chance at getting/ keeping a job, and keeping my freedom as an american alive. Who isnt going to play the blame game, the race card, and all the other little cards in the deck to get what HE/ SHE wants, but for what is right. Something i think every last one of us should be looking into right now, other than grabbing guns, and pointing them at each other. if your gonna point them, at leat point them in the direction they should be pointed for cryin out loud. This is our country, it belongs to us, and WE decide what is good, and what isnt. Where OUR $ should be spent, not these azzclowns holding seats now.
No. If you are professing to be against Obama because he is "Muslim", "not a citizen", "a communist", "a Marxist" or "he pals around with terrorists", then you are a bigot/racist. People are using other attacks because they are afraid to admit they don't want a half black man(who looks black), as their President.
If you are against Obama because he hasn't waved a magic wand and solved all our problems yet, then you are ignorant.
WAY TO GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! show the a-holes gop that WE THE PEOPLE not the FEW TEAKKK'S whi with their small brains Think that this is their country ONLY.
KICK THOSE ASSSSS BRING BACK OUR COUNTRY THAT THE TEABAGSKKK AND BUTTBUSHHEAD tried sooooooooooooooooooo hard to destroy.
"This is clear payback by the administration to organized labor."
Just as the decision to do away with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Law and its focus on reading, writing and arithmatic was a payback to the teachers unions, so that bad teachers couldn't be exposed and the focus of education could be shifted to other subjects - like basketball.
I suspect that people had no idea what they were voting for when they fell for that "Change we can believe in" slogan. As the "Reverand" Jeremiah Wright recently said, "when they voted for Obama, they were obviously voting for socialism".
Barack Obama--the greatest divider in American history. That's part of his plan-- divide and conquer as a leftist dictator and align us with Muslims and leftists around the world. It was all part of the plan from the start. Are you happy now, Iowa? You started it!
Oh come on. Bush did it...Clinton did it. This is nothing new boys. You want to believe everything Obama does is bad. The bad part about this is all of you read only want you want to believe and leave some of the reality out of it. Grow the hell up!
nmgrandma-1424115, The World is circle and what goes around comes around. Guess what? It coming back around in November and your wannabe dictator will have his hands tied by Congress. Like it or not the biggest reason the Republicans have told Obama that terrible NO! word is because they are among the few in Washington who actually listen to the people who voted them into office. Your petty dictator had better get all he can while he can, because beginning January 2012 he will be hearing that terrible NO! word a lot more when he tries to get more things done that the American voter says NO! to and this time it will not only be coming from the voters, but from Congress as well.
From the article..."The move immediately deepened the divide between the Democratic president and Republicans"... Oh brother, so what? It couldn't get any deeper with ZERO Repubs standing with the Demos, good for the Prez to do what he thinks is right - obviously the Repubs will simply obstruct, so why waste anymore of anyone's time on the appointees. If they don't like, ok, it's a free country, try to find some Repub who thinks he can win in 2016. (Forget 2012, Obama will be re-elected - because while a recovery is slow, there is improvement.)
Bush did this 170+ times. YOU just don't like it because Obama did it. Grow up and wait your turn to rule again (at least 3 more years). However, if Sarah Palin is the best candidate you have to offer, it may be a hell of a lot longer.
oldnewgrad, rn: You asked, so I'll correct you because you are completely wrong. The global financial crisis of 2008 was generated by the sudden collapse of the US residential housing market. This was prompted directly by a DEMOCRATIC Congressional campaign to pressure FNMA and Fredie Mac into forcing banks to loan to totally unqualified homebuyers. Read about it before posting.
The Senate VOTED AGAINST Becker! They voted him down! Then Obama appoints him anyway!??! AMAZING. Obama just doesnt like it when people dare to disagree with him and he will just find a weasley way to circumvent the traditional rules.===============
====================
The Senate didn't vote against him. A rethuglicant put a hold on him and the Dems couldn't get the 60 votes needed to bring him up for a vote. If you DO NOT understand how our Congress work, then please DO NOT post. When you post this misinformation you make yourself look really stupid.
The hypocracy of the retuglicants (and Dems) is amazing. I didn't hear any of you cons conplaining when george bush used the same tactic to get some of his appointments through (John Bolton as UN Ambassador, remember). Oh that's right, you don't believe the rethugs do such things. Hahaha. 2005, the majority rethugs in the /senate threatened to go "nuclear" and do away with the filibuster. 2009/2010, the rethugs have become the most filbiustering party in Senate history. But don't let their obstruction of the country's business stop you from voting for them. It makes you as pathetic as they are.
jeff... have you seen the increase in deficit??? Obama surpassed Bush's entire presidency in that department in his first year alone....============
================
retired Marine, got some bad news for you sunshine. The first fiscal budget that Barack Obama did is for the current fiscal year which started 1 Oct 09. The fiscal year that ended 30 Sept 09 was the decider's.Most economists lay the blame for most, but not all, of the deficit for fiscal year 09 at shrub's feet. BTW--McCain probably would've done much the same as Obama to try and keep this country out of a depression. Sorry to correct your "facts", wrong as they are.
=======================
Ave Joe, got some bad news for you also. The filibuster rule is constitutional. It is rule 22. However, it was never intended to be used the way our pols (bth parties) now use it. At one time you physically had to keep talking to keep a filibuster alive. Now just the threat is bad enough. Aso it takes two days after the filibuster threat to actually vote on breaking it. There are a couple other time rules involved.
Short term memory problems plague the Dems. I recall well the obstructionist tactics of the Dems during nominations to courts. The Dems were then known as the party on no lol. Enjoy your 4 minutes of fame, even if 2 minutes of it will be with a completely new set of senators and House members. I do look forward to seeing out the incumbants enmasse;)
It is unconscionable for posters to break the MSN rules of conduct and call those they disagree with names like "-sshole" and "racist". You people should be reported. When 70 percent of the population is forced to slave for a program they don't want and won't benifit by and when the Congress and the Senate are bypassed in the legislative process then the WE are the slaves and Obama is our Massa. That's not a racist comment since the population of the U.S. is not black and Obama is half white and half black. There are slaves and Massas of all races. It's the RELATIONSHIP between the parties that defines the slave-massa relationship, not the race. We are Obama's slaves and he is the Massa. Why not just be grateful for our Massa taking charge of our lives and making sure our needs are met if we just keep working hard for Massa and doing what he wants? Especially since he will fine and punish us if we disobey the Massa.
When the Republicans take over the House, I hope they investigate the true cause of the financial meltdown (Chris Dodd and Barney Frank) that caused Americans to lose over $15 Trillion in savings. You'll notice that the Democrats won't investigate - I wonder why????????????????
That is a unique complaint. That people will be "forced" to pay for something they don't use.
Must be like all those Adults, without children, who pay for Schools, Parks, Books, Education subsidies. How about all the people who pay for street lights in neighborhood when they can't get them in their own neighborhoods - because they just don't have enough political clout. Or the small towns who pay for freeway construction in populous areas, but can't even get the state to pur another layer of gravel to their little village.
Get real! - None of us get 100% back for every dollar we pay in taxes - some get more than they put in and some get very little back - plus it costs money for all the little things which you depend on, but somehow thing are Free?
I ahve to laugh at most of those "don't tread on me" ... Mr. Independent, States rights complainers. Every year they get Flooded out and every year the National Guard, State militia ... comes in to helicopter them to safety - yet they are the 1st to complain when "god forbid" someone else, like New Orleans needs a little help.
Recently, one of the coal producing States complained that the Feds were sticking their noses in States business, because they wanted to regulate tailing, ash dams to prevent polluting streams, river, lakes with run-off or even worse - the potential ecologocal damage of one of those Ash dams ruptured!
One did, it was a disaster - and sure as the Sun rises - their Governor tried to sue the Fed's for not forcing them to improve oversight for the same coffer dam which burst ... even though they had posted years of infractions (which the state ignored) against the Power plant and the mine.
Seems they want the Fed's ...meaning all of us tax payers, to cleanup the mess they refused to prevent.
Folks, these are not Jokes, nor exaggerations - this really happens in Repugnain Land.
It really says a lot about the people who voted for your post. They look for anything to blame Obama for, and usually pick a false argument to attack him with.
45 votes for your post(1 of them yours, I'm sure), and none of them had enough sense/integrity to research and see that you are wrong.
Becker wasn't "voted down" like you claim, by the Senate, or anyone else. They've been abstaining from voting, Obama called them on it, then went ahead without them when they balked.
"pjam" you are, OF COURSE referring to the Bush years....wherien he lied to, bankrupted, and embarrassed America....whil making the rich richer, and the poor poorer...way to go Dub, thanks for your legacy...it's one HECK of a mess to clean up after.......
When the Republicans take over the House, I hope they investigate the true cause of the financial meltdown (Chris Dodd and Barney Frank) that caused Americans to lose over $15 Trillion in savings. You'll notice that the Democrats won't investigate - I wonder why????????????????
the reasons are many roy, and a large one was the republican mantra of "no regulation is good regulation".
add to that the greed of banks and mortgage brokerages taking advantage of people with solid fixed-rate 30 year loans supplied by fannie may/freddiwmac, and replacing them with 1/4 point neg amortization loans that pay huge commissions to the salespeople who kept telling the homeowners that it was "such a great deal" just to line their own pockets at anothers expense.
go on chanting that partisan koolaid crap and keep sticking your head in the sand.
Yea, this union lacky will kill more jobs in the good ole USA. Nice work Barry. (again) November can't come quick enough. Now we see the healthcare thingy may not cover preexisting conditions until 2014. Chucky Schumer said the more people read it the more they will like it. i guess chuck didn't read it either ( like most other congressmen) Who knows what the hell is in this bill. What a disgrace!
I am so sick to death of reading articles where Obama blames the Republicans for stopping him from doing anything, when THEY DON'T HAVE THE NUMBERS TO STOP HIM. THE DEMOCRATS HAVE THE MAJORITY. He should have been able to get anything he wanted passed.
Why is it taking so long? Because there are those in HIS PARTY that do not agree with him. This has nothing to do with Republicans. Democrats had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.
When you have the majority and a green light to pass anything and everything and you're still having problems the only conclusion you should come to is, you're ideas aren't that great!
Has the message struck home yet? While there are two ways to lose the next election, there is only one way to win, by moving forward, hope people are paying attention and speak at the polls. That is if we can keep the dick armey army from shooting up the place.
UNPRECEDENTED! WHAT A BETRAYAL OF THE PROPER POLITICAL WAY OF DOING THINGS! He should have allowed those posts to remain UNFILLED until the GOP was darned good and ready to allow him to place those of their choosing in the seats. In the meantime, if those offices could not function as they should, too bad! Who does he think he is, anyway?
AND he had the audacity to name not ONE but FIFTEEN people! Hrummmmpppp!
Oh ... wait ... Dummyyou, aw, I mean W, named over 170 in the same manner. But that's okay, though, because he was a Republican [and we KNOW he had the best interest of the American CITIZENS in mind when he appointed all those ex-Wall Street bankers] and, also, because he wasn't an uppity n...
What a pathetic bunch of losers. Lick your wounds and get over it for cripes sake. The MAJORITY voted for President Obama. The MAJORITY won ... you LOST. That's why it is called Democracy. But the GOP doesn't like it when the PEOPLE exercise their right to choose who leads them, so they brainwash and stall and lie. Business as usual for their political money-train machine.
I'm delighted that President Obama threw down the gauntlet and let them know he was through allowing them to play games and finished being patient with their ridiculous tactics. Good for him!
I'm so glad to see that the majority of Americans on the site today are thinkers and support the prez and his constitutional right to appoint during a recess. It is indeed a refreshing change from the usual party of no followers and their dribble and lies.
All the usual T-baggers must be out worshiping their holy trinity-Rush, Sarah and Beck.
On another note, republicans don't know how off base they are about the gun thing. Even though I don't really like them, lets just say we are ready if they decide to do something stupid.
I'm guessing his point was it's a common maneuver by any president regardless of party... The fact that the minority party whines about it - at all - is disingenuous.
McCain whining about it when he knows perfectly well it's use over time, is even worse. He's using it as a soundbite for his re-election run in AZ and to rile up the less politically savvy members of the party. But they're too ignorant to know they've been insulted.
It will be a privileged to use Rex 84 to subdue all you libs when the money is gone and you are rioting...we have the concentration camps built and manned..just a matter of time.
Shameful a MARINE is threatening people based on sides of a political fence. Cowardice at its apex. Hence I doubt you are or ever have been a Marine..if so you are most likely Jim Kerry posting anonymously.
do you see the contradiction in your statement? you threaten to put libs in concentration camps while bashing a poster for threatening people because of their political ideology. lmao.
I think the point is every president does it. So why are the republicans up in arms about it? They sure didn't make this much noise when John Bolton was appointed during a Senate recess. John McCain wasn't talking about how Bush had no respect for the Senate.
I suspect that some are upset because this is just another example of the Change that we were to believe in that is not happening. It is just politics as usual and you wonder why you believed the bs in the first place.
This is great! Dr. Mike calling our president a liar. The obstructionists hardly utter a true statement. They just come up with sound bites. I hear and read no logic, no argument, just BS. They've become adept at slander without any reasoning or verification.
The Party Of NO needs to come up with an idea, any idea that they can state clearly. All they do is say "we have a plan", but they never say what it is. IF they do have a plan it's just a way of protecting their business interests, never anything new or useful - same ol' same ol'.
Thanks to all of you Dems and Libs for taking the time to say something here. By the way, there's many of us vets who have a brain and honest conviction rather than blind flag waving and paranoia.
The Republicans just couldn't and wouldn't roll with it, so they got rolled over. They had their time in the sun, and what did they do? They let America rot. So now, this space ship is about ready for taking off, with or without the Republicans. Thrusters are blasting, and it's time to go. Yes, We Can!
Dave-828173 The point? The point is the GOP is one again showing its total and complete loss of reality. The hypocracy in the GOP and with its supporters is so rancid you can smell it.
Mark-1219747 The money was spent by Bush/cheney and we ran out long before Pres. Obama was elected. Concentration camps for disagreeing with the radical right? First I can't stop laughing at you and your convoluted logic. Secon, I guess you have a problem with 'that dam n piece of paper', too. Well, fortunately for you (and bush/cheney) Liberals just love the Constitution and will fight like hec k to preserve and protect the rights it guarantees. Not just our opinions and our rights, but your's, too. That's just one big positive difference between a liberal thinker and a followers of the Joe McCarthy, O'reilly, limbaugh, palin, beck, hannity, et al belief system. If you weren't so impotent with your bluster....it's cruel to be to entertained by you.
pjam09 Ah, yes, your choice of words to express yourself, the last bastion of a desparate and frightened little man/woman.
Jeff-Las Vegas Wrong, sir. Pres. Obama is for change for the better, however, the GOP is being a deterent and childish. He, at least, warned them, something Bush would never even have considered. Obama gave the pouters a chance to be proactive and productive. It was THEIR choice to not play well with others.
Dr Mike- Impeached? On what charge? For working night and day to repair the colossal amount of damage inherited from the previous administration? For making good on his campaign promises? For fighting for the most vulnerable and least represented group in America and winning them a chance at growing up healthy, not dying for want of medical care in country that thinks more of its guns than its neighbors? For doing what every other President, incl. Republicans, has done throughout our history? For saving our foreign relationships with our allies? For wanting to provide for our military after they leave boot camp? etc etc etc Name some other specifics, not the repeated, oreillylies, misleading statements or the other republican bedtime children's stories. You are another sad little man. Doctor? I wonder....
Ah, yes, the party of NO. As in NO infant or child can vote, so scrub them. NO fragile elderly, the sick and the disabled are going to vote, so scrub them. NO homeless family who has lost their job, home and dignity is going to show up to vote, so scrub them (so what if they're the cause with a little help from bush/cheney, their 'friends' are happy and made them 'happy' in return $$$$$). Who else have the party of NO continued to ignore? They keep this up and the NO's will be from the voters who still listen to them. Talk about a group of blind followers, never questioning their puppet masters, never educating themselves, never wanting to hear the facts, never saying 'let me help' unless there is something for them in return, 'never in my backyard'...never able to see their reflection in the mirror (that one was fun).
Hmmm. The HOUSE hasn't moved on these nominations over the last few months so he just appoints people. What could they have been working on that took their attention away from confirming these nominations? Shall we say, Health Care. That's all fine, but, don't portray this as the GOP stalling so that Obama can pull a Bush. It is what it is, Obama took the opportunity to shove his people into key positions through circumventing the normal process.
Cynthia, D.Appel, Ginchinchili, and all you pro U.S. posters. Thank you. We're very grateful for the time you take to do the research, etc. Direct and honest posting, great job!
I like the sentiment. 15 appointees is nothing. It clearly makes Mitch McConnell look like a hypocrite.
I know the poor house and it better be big cause will all be living there
I guess chairman Obama figures he can always use a few more commies in his administration. And what’s that about him “scolding” the GOP? Does he think they care much about his rambling diatribes?
Awww, someone call the Wambulance, waaaa, waaaa, waaaa, the GOP dont get their recess, waaaaa, waaaaa, wish i got a recess, waaaa, those guys who according to the pigs are right to criticize the president of taking a vacation, are now complaining cause they don't get vacations anymore, waaaa they have to work for the people again. Yup how the GOP havnt changed, they can't even hide it when they aren't accountable for anything.
about damn time he did what needed to be done, the republican's are never going to work with him on any thing at all. The republicans need to understand that a big majority of this country is tired of paying their salary and benefits while they continually say to no to everything, and please dont tell me they have tried to work with the others, they have not!! Totally obvious they haven't,and we are not stupid to the fact that the basic reason is not that he is a democrat, but the fear they have is that if he succeeds in anything they will have a long road back due to the fact that he is not only intelletually superior but black to boot and god forbid he does anything good for the people, they have had years to do good, but only the top 3% have ever benefited from them. Why do people vote against things good for them? because they dont read and dont know and only listen to the talking points, not facts, are we a morally caring country or just interested in our own lives?
It's gratifying to see so many people finally waking up to the Republicans party's obstruction tactics. last week they announced they will no longer work to improve government or the country. Obama and the Democrats proved they can go it alone, without the Party of No, and that's what they'll do.
The Republican Party needs to figure out what they stand FOR, not just against, if they hope to win some seats in the coming elections. The health care anger is already fading out since it became law, and fear of immigrants and gun control isn't enough.
The big problem for the GOP is, people love a winner. The Democrats won huge this week, and the polls reflect the American people's reaction. Not that majority support for the health care law will stop the GOP from claiming that the "vast majority" of Americans are against it.
actually Clotho the repulicans couldn't have halted anything last year because the democrats had the supermajority in the Senate and the House. So really they repubs couldn't have done anything to Obama's agenda vote wise, it was Obama's own party that couldn't get healthcare done in its first year they had the power and lost it.
I'm glad he finally decided to do this and he gave them more than enough time to come around!! The GOP has done it many times so just let them try and say that it's never been done!! Yeh, right; so sick of their lies and hatred!!! I hope every Repub running gets voted out!!!!!!!!!!!
momaw45 - and all of us hard working people are sick and tired of working just to have some liberal dip into our pockets to give to those who are too lazy to work for themselves.
If this was so good for us... please explain why the elite in congress and Master Obama himself are exempt from it... if it is good enough for us isn't it good enough for them? Or was Orwell correct in Animal farm.... All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal.... The title of President or congressman on a pig doesn't change it from being a pig
Clotho:
They couldn't get it done because the dems own party couldn't agree. But blame the Republicans or Bush...whatever. After all the bribes and arm twisting they got enough votes although 24 or 27 democrats still voted no..at least the ones with some nuts. Now that it is through Obama has to travel around and campaign again to try and get more support....because the bill is so full of bs. Then on to cap and trade to kill a few more jobs and then immigration will be reformed (he needs the votes).
Yep, Obama is a fast learner, it's not nice when the same thing happens to the GOP is it, Obama is just leveling the playing field since the GOP only wants to play games and not take care of the business the people elected them to do, and don't tell me about their job is to screw the country more than they already have ....... People need to look at that yearly chart of foreclosures man talk about taking the country down a steep hill BUSH takes the award hands down .......
Richie -
Obama helped cause the housing crisis by suing Citibank to make them give loans to unqualified ("subprime") borrowers (Roberson vs Citibank, 1994, settled 1998). As one of seven community organizing type lawyers Obama received a $23,000 fee for his work.
Democrats, esp Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, blocked Republican (Eliz Dole, Chuck Hagel, John McCain) efforts to investigate Fannie and Freddie.
Rick, I suggest you research the topics for yourself. Why insult me? Where is your proof to the contrary? Since these statements are of fact, I await your apology, once you become informed.
KS & Brad-dumbass, I work for the largest building PAC in the US. Geez... You crack me up.
You have no idea as to the lobbying power that drove the Bush/Cheney/Rove regime. They were in the pockets of the Wall Street and looking to slow down housing (pre-'04) any way possible so they could pump up the stock market - and sell the "ownership" society (5% of your Social Security into the stock market) to you.
Brad, you have no idea... You don't even do your own research. You just go on with the same ol' nonsensical Republican talking points hoping that it will land on someone (like bird droppings).
No more responding with an idiot. Take your tantrums and lack of knowledge, run along to Fox.com.
Retired Marine - Did you read what you wrote? Yes, they all are except because one of the first versions of the healthcare bill wanted to give the American people the EXACT same healthcare as the President and Congress. Take a wild guess at who shot that down. Seeing as you're a retired Marine I firstly say thank you for your service, and secondly, you're welcome for the healthcare that I pay for. It would have been nice to have when I had a hernia a few years back that was likely caused by my contract job that provided absolutely no healthcare, but paid a little to well to get assistance. I don't know if you guys are lying or dumb when you call people who need help lazy. I just hope you're dumb.
It's simple look at the yearly chart when did the foreclosures start when Bush was in office in fact it was from his very first year, Bush is the man with the foreclosure plan .... LOL LOL LOL Oh, maybe be graphs is to hard to understand ... Geee maybe I should draw you a picture ...
Rick - I couldn't care less where you work. You could be John out of a job Smith, the garbage collector, and still possibly give a cogent on point response.
The point of your anti-Bush et al remark seems to be to change the subject. It is not relevant to the quesion I asked you. Changing the subject and failing to answer the question...many politicians do it, most recently BHO in his TV interview, the Rep Weiner when asked who would enforce the new anti-American health care law if people did not buy insurance.
So, again, please: answer my questions.
BTW, Wall street political contributions were tracked for the 2008 election. 73% of the money went to Democrats.
KS, WTF? Did you read my post?? Wall Street/Shrub's ownership society effort was pre-2004.
As to the sub-prime meltdown and causes thereof, watch the link, then get back to us when you've learned something other than low-hanging talking points routed to you via Fox.
Rick, you actually trust CBS to get anything right? They're in Obamas left front pocket. NBC is in his right.
YouTube has the recordings from the Senate hearings, and they clearly show Dodd and co. saying everything is just fine in the housing market, the the repubs desperately asking to have them checked. Post from and independent source please, not a libbie powerhouse
Rick, again.
With your latest post, you again insult me.
I have no inside informaion nor complete enough information to make a judgment on what you claim to be W's motivation around 2004. My comment was just to expose that Wall Street is mostly run by Dems.
Again, you are focused upon this new subject which you have introduced.
You have failed to make a comment upon the two items I posted for you...Obama's part in causing the housing crisis, and the blocking of investigation into it by Dems esp Frank and Dodd (new thought: too bad they didn't have another Jewish guy working with Barney...imagine if the team could have been Frank and Stein)...before you started to avoid the issue and sidetrack.
You tell ME to get back to you??? BTW, I didn't get either of these issues, of which I have been fairly well informed for well over a year, from Fox...so, you're wrong again.
I ask for your comments upon tose two issues again. You have still failed to answer.
Wall Street run by Dems? Are you kidding me?? You obviously don't know any hedge-fund managers.
Wall Street, and derivative predatory lending, was largely responsible for the debacle you claim an obscure attorney making $23K was responsible for... Watch the link I sent, learn something.
Karl Rove ALMOST single-handedly collapsed Fannie/Freddie so housing would be hobbled and investors would put their money into stocks and bonds. The idea was to shore up the dot.com damage, reinvigorate Wall Street and reap 5% of your SS. You have no idea how close we came to that screwing of America. It was the housing lobby that stopped his play.
As to the personal comments KS, my frustration is borne out of the amount of effort, time and energy hell-bent naysayers like you spend on bringing down people in the political system who actually give a sh*t about folks like you and me - not their bottom line and what they're going to get out of their short appointment(s).
DUH!!! Read the Bill? Read the newspaper? Watch network TV? The Bill forces our elected officials to have the same coverage as the rest of us......what a twit if you can't manage to get a single fact correct in your rants!!!
Fantastic to see the polls finally reflect how our country really feels about the actions of the Party of No and the constant state of unrest and anger they continue to generate!! Those who have thrown "what Americans want" in our faces for the past year - WAKE UP!! We want a working legislator! We are elated that President Obama IS running our country as our leader! Health care IS better and will only improve greatly in the next few years - would have been sooner if not for the GOP sitting on their thumbs!!
The GOP's best hope for beating out President Obama....or any other party representative is McCain!?! Best laugh of this administration so far.........McCain going to Palin for her support to get out the voters for him!! Look on McCain's wife's face as she stood next to him, behind Palin on stage spoke volumes - she was not a happy camper! One fool speaking in support of another. If that's the best ya got..........love the idea of President Obama for another term and another Democrat for two more after him! The GOP has really messed up the future of their party with their ignorance!
I'm sorry but the PROGRESSIVES are gone in November and I'm a Democrat. You all should have gone a little slower with the radical agenda. We may not have noticed. PROGRESSIVES have lost the Independents and moderate dems, like myself. Thanks you jackasses. Now the country is going to go so far Right that were not going to like it. Morons, look at the example that the Country has to base where we are headed under PROGRESSIVE rule-CALIFORNIA. Need I say more??
Lady-Red, the current bill specifically does not require that any member of congress or senate use the health care plan. It states that they are allowed to elect to use it as their coverage. This is clearly stated within the first 300 pages or so of the bill. I know this because I've spent hours this week painstakingly reading the blasted thing and am not finished with it yet! It is stated very clearly in the bill, as anyone who had actually read it would be aware.
What am I missing here? The Democrats have enough people in congress to push through the Health Care legislation, but, it is the GOPs fault that these people weren't confirmed during a period pretty much spent exclusively on Health Care legislation? The people saying the GOP is the party of NO and ridiculing the Tea Partiers for calling Obama Socialist and worrying about gun control need to look in the mirror. Their claims are just as ridiculous.
Rick: KS and Dave never did get back with reference on her post, see below. This is so very typical of the republicans - watch them talk shows, they attack, interrupt, talk louder and louder but can never give a factual answer. By the way, Obama went after Citibank and others because the minorities, having the same $, employment, and credit histories as whites, were denied mortgages or were given mortgages at a much higher % rate. Typical 1/2 story presented by repubs. The POTUS has always tried to be reasonable, fair and just == he is now learning how to play politics with sleazers.
"Obama helped cause the housing crisis by suing Citibank to make them give loans to unqualified ("subprime") borrowers (Roberson vs Citibank, 1994, settled 1998). Expanding Homeownership. The President believes that homeownership is the cornerstone of America's vibrant communities and benefits individual families by building stability and long-term financial security. In June 2002, President Bush issued America's Homeownership Challenge to the real estate and mortgage finance industries to encourage them to join the effort to close the gap that exists between the homeownership rates of minorities and non-minorities. The President also announced the goal of increasing the number of minority homeowners by at least 5.5 million families before the end of the decade. Under his leadership, the overall U.S. homeownership rate in the second quarter of 2004 was at an all time high of 69.2 percent. Minority homeownership set a new record of 51 percent in the second quarter, up 0.2 percentage point from the first quarter and up 2.1 percentage points from a year ago. President Bush's initiative to dismantle the barriers to homeownership includes: o American Dream Downpayment Initiative, which provides down payment assistance to approximately 40,000 low-income families; o Affordable Housing. The President has proposed the Single-Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit, which would increase the supply of affordable homes; o Helping Families Help Themselves. The President has proposed increasing support for the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunities Program; and o Simplifying Homebuying and Increasing Education. The President and HUD want to empower homebuyers by simplifying the home buying process so consumers can better understand and benefit from cost savings. The President also wants to expand financial education efforts so that families can understand what they need to do to become homeowners
AND Bush's buddy was running Fannie and Freddi and told congress that they were both sound in 2007.
My contribution to correcting the false assertions that Pres. Obama was responsible for the bad loans crisis. You guys have had to learn by now that many of us actually do fact-checking and research. Your parroting of false accusation and false facts from the likes of O'reilly (NO journalist, btw), limbaugh and others will be challenged and exposed.
What Pres Obama did, as part of a legal team, was confront Citibank for 'red-lining' loans in minority neighborhoods. He used our legal system to force Citibank to not use location or ethnicity in approving or denying loans. He didn't fight for bad loans or 'loans for everyone'. What many of you are saying with this lie is that: Minorities, even if qualifed, maybe denied based on their geographic location and race; that the bush administrations attempts to increase the economic power and bottom-line of banking instituions was a major contributer to the collapse; that fanny mae and freddy mac didn't fail the consumer or the public at large. The collapse is the result of a 'perfect storm' of bad leadership, greed, deregulation, a declining economy political favortism. The bush administration had 8 years, six of them with a GOP majority. All he accomplished was a great ponzi scheme where the rich got richer and led the rest of us into unemployment, homelessnes and poverty. There wasn't less government, it was more government interference in favor of those who then returned the favor. Oh, yeah, he also failed to act on intelligence information, falsified intelligence, led us into a false war that has cost us dearly in live and the economy, and most likely broke a few laws, circumvented the Constitution and increased hatred and the terrorist resolve, too. Terrorist attacks were increased on US concerns and allies under bush. Check it out, confirm or dispute, with facts. I encourage all of you.
Above all else, respect others. Address issues and arguments and refrain from making personal attacks. If you see something disrespectful or inappropriate, report it - rather than further inflaming the situation.
"President George W. Bush made more than 170 such appointments in his two-term presidency". Once Obama taps another 155 appointments, I'll consider feeling bad about it.......pshawww what the hell am i saying..... Where's Dawn Johnson??????
With the lack of cooperation he receives the rethuglicans, he'll probably have to end up making about 500 recess appointments before his 8 years are up. The republicans won't support anything he tries to do. I'm so glad to see that he is no longer even trying to placate them. It was a waste of time from the very beginning!
Oh lets check the facts? Peloses and John Kerry have more money they do. So where is the complaining obout theme rich white people here about gaining the system.
Repugnican ... in case you still don't realize it - We elected Obama as President ... you lost, get used to it.
I was waiting to see if he would finally grow a pair. Its about time!
With the lack of cooperation he receives the rethuglicans, he'll probably have to end up making about 500 recess appointments before his 8 years are up. The republicans won't support anything he tries to do. I'm so glad to see that he is no longer even trying to placate them. It was a waste of time from the very beginning
Business as usual was what we Didn't want.
Well played Mr. President, your vision is start bear fruit and the people are glad to see some good finally starting to happen.
People do not want "hand-outs" they want jobs, they want to see the country working and they want to see the government standing between the abuses of Corporations and industries who have raped the country, unrestricted for the last several years. If you have our back, then we will watch yours!
Will one of you liberals please address the issue. The issue is who the appointments are, not whether they were made. We all recognize that presidents make them but please tell me why Republicans should support someone who wants to dismantle the labor system we have. Please tell me why anyone should support appointing someone to a position of authority when he intends to destroy the very system he is appointed to supervise. Let's talk about the real issues and solve them rather than the process issues because both parties are guilty of being the party of no to the sitting president in the area of appointments- Dems refused to even allow hundreds of judicial appointments to go forward. They knew they could not prevent them from being appointed if they were brought to a vote. I say let em vote and defend their positions. Last time I checked Dems controlled Congress and I have not heard of a filibuster on all 15, just the labor board guy who intends to destroy the labor/management relationship in the U.S., by his own admission.
There's plenty out there to quantify the fact that Bush app'ts were based on 1) party loyalty, 2) contributions, 3) ability to produce more of the same. They threw out science and reason, qualifications and experience.
FEMA (aka "Brownie") stands out as one of my best recollections...
One thing is fact, Both sides have used this tactic to get there folk inside... NO CHANGE !
I can't help but laugh at both sides arguing over which is more wholesome in how they have done it. People wake up, the party in charge always takes control to benefit there voters. Nothing will change until an independent takes charge, then and only then will ya see some equality.
I am so beyond the blame game, I never thought I'd say this but I am glad my time is almost up but feel for my children and grandchildren and all those left to deal with this mess.
Sorry, rick, but when someone makes an emphatic statement of fact, they should most definitely provide the sources and give substative material to back up their positions. Its too easy to make a comment 'out of the air' to bolster a particular view and this 'fact' can influence others. It can be reckless and its certainly deceptive, to assert your opinions or political views as facts when in 'fact' there is nothing 'factual' at all. We SHOULD do our own fact-checking to confirm or deny the assertions, but don't give the poster a pass for making things up and perhaps grossly influencing others or even setting in motion their false assertions becoming fact in the conservative, or liberal, domain of talking heads and so-call journalists. Its not a reach, just look at the palinisms that have become 'fact' or the 'birthers'.
... Will one of you liberals please address the issue. The issue is who the appointments are, not whether they were made. We all recognize that presidents make them but please tell me why Republicans should support someone who wants to dismantle the labor system we have...
You wrongly assume that the R have a higher purpose. You also assume the destruction of our labor system, risk vs. reward is being protected by their procrastination. The facts, viewed from the other perspective - are seen differently.
These reactions, from the Repugnicans, are nothing more than the rantings of a petulant child, like one who threatens to hold his breathe until he gets his way. His actions have nothing at all to do with the aim of his desire. They only serve to provoke some sense of guilt for not allowing him to do something detrimental to the family unit - it won't work, no mature adult will allow threat or bribery to influence the rules of the family, subvert the greater good for momentary peace, compliance to something which needs to be done based on its own merit.
A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down....
If you didn't learn that at mom's knee, then you need remedial classes. Politics is about doing the distasteful, for all right reasons. If a leader can't see the greater good ... when balanced against the immediate negative - then he needs to be in another line of work. Pretty sure the Ante Bellum Plantation owners were not happy to lose their property, but millions of abused souls were released from a hellish life and the country was better for it, since the unfair advantage of people who didn't work the land, yet reaped its rewards were removed.
Example: As barbarous as the Death penalty may be it is the most effective way (though distasteful) to permanently remove the most perfidious, villains from society, thus to prevent his ability to re-offend- the problem is how to insure only the guilty face the sanction...even War has its proponents and can be justified as an expedient, when divorced from the loss of life and wholesale destructive effects.
With absolutely nothing to be gained by placating obstructionist Republicans, he'd be a fool to do anything else. This group of Republicans has no idea other than give away america to the corporations and no strategy beyond pandering to the "I got mine, screw everyone else" crowd. Their approach to solving America's problems is give another tax cut.
And guess what Bill. Every economic turnarond begins and ends with business...not the government, not labor unions, not handouts, not bailouts and not by taxes. Another thing Bill...nearly every Republican supports some health care reform. America supports reform. We just didn't like the reform proposed and the way we the people were excluded from the process of it being passed. It sounds like you enjoy paying higher taxes every year...probably all the new state and local taxes as well. I don't mind taxes either Bill, my issue is getting my moneys worth. All I see is bigger government and more and more intrusion into my life. If you like this as well, I'm sorry, because I will do everything I can to limit government in my life. I will vote for conservatives because the opposition is leading us down a very slippery slope our founding fathers could hardly envision. I don't want the goverment to take care of me. I don't want schools raising my children and have no expectation they should. Most things in my life is my resposibility..not the government Bill. Does any of this make sense? Strike a cord anywhere? I hope so but fear not.
Ritchie & Bill, you forgot one thing. Republican tax cuts true but you forgot to add this bit of truth- Republican tax cuts for the wealthy ONLY is their mantra!
15 yrs of pay raises that dont even break even with inflation increased co pay and higher healthcare costs. all the while ceo's payand bonus's and perks raise to obscene lvls
anyone remember the last time a bill came out of congress that actually helped or improved the avg workers lot in life? i remember the cola adjustments but that was in the 70's or 80's
its time to clean house come nov and finish the job in 2012
The only thing is that the health care 'reform' will hit your pocketbook even more than doing nothing. And that's from the actuaries that score Medicare. So I guess you're happy that the Democrats have stuck it to you as well?
Bush wasted eight years trying to privatize social security when the American people were clearly against it. Imagine if it had been privatized years ago and then the stock market meltdown hit. Social security is the safety net which is supposed to remain relatively safe.
If people want to gamble with their own money they can do so with their IRAs, 401Ks and private savings.
Time for a mature solution, like the bipartisan Reagan-O'Neill Deal in 1983. However, maturity is out of the reach of the party of "no" these days.
Maybe my hormones are just catching up to me, but reading this made me cry. If ANY of them, including Obama, could just forget the stupid party politics we might just get something done in this country.
Sorry, but the Repubs have already said they will do nothing for the rest of the year!!! It would be nice, but you must be in la la land if you think otherwise!
Lol it has been a long time since they've done anything. :3
cjn: I wish I was in lala land. Actually, I welcome the Republican's inactivity, then the Democrats can get something done instead of constantly defending themselves from Republican opposition, at least SOMEONE will be doing something!
Working on a repeal, State Attorney General's sueing the feds and McCain and Palin on the road again ...doesn't sound like 'doing nothing'. If only they would work in a bipartisan fashion or truley sit back and 'do nothing' while others get work done....
McCain must be in serious trouble to bring back that Ghoul from her grave.
I'm betting the deal was that she be given the front seat on any potential ticket. Palin - McCain... that should be a nice Repugnican ticket for the next Presidential elections.
All Amreican Family; Mother, daughter, "Baby-daddy" and quicky divorce - almost June Cleaver, back to the 50's. Now thats a concept we can all agree on.
Actually the less the gov't does (both parties) - the better off we are....
Anarchy: 1 a: absence of governmentb: a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
Sorry, I'm not too fond of a government without involvement. We'd still have some pretty sad conditions if that were the case. What we need is a government leadership that follows the ideals of the architects of our democratic/republic, the first liberals in our country. The invisioned a government that was for the people, not just 'our kind' of people. A government that protects its citizenry from obstruction and oppression. If it takes more government intervention, ala the Bill of Rights/Constitutional amendments, enforcement of these laws and protection/preservation of the Constitution, then bring it on. What we have seen is administrations like Bush/cheney, who have circumvented the Constitution and prostituted it for their own gain. A 'leader' like bush/cheney who only govern FOR the elite and similar class/thinkers has made us even more suspicious. I haven't seen any evidence that Pres. Obama is out to circumvent the Constitution or to favor one political, idealogical or economic group over another, its more about leveling the field.
What we have to do as citizens is to constantly question authority and to hold them accountable, which we can do by our votes, but we also have strong tools in the use of technology to spread the word and 'force' our representatives in government to play by the rules of law, not the rules of personal gain.
Funny, it was OK for the democrats to delay appointments when Bush was in office. Now that it is the other way, it is detrimental to Obama. What a crock. Go ahead and recess appoint them. Quit crying about it. Bush did it, Clinton did it, Reagan did it, every President before Obama has done it. Big deal, it just that they are limited to no more than the length of each Senate term that is left, and not the full term.
The reason the Dems were the party of "no" during the years of the Shrub, was because everyone he appointed was a return FAVOR for incompetents. Remember the vast qualifications of the guy running FEMA?
You idiots in the Repuke party have little to no basis for your arguments. The Internet and people finally getting your number leaves you with no clothes - and bare for all to see and observe. You're corrupt and disingenuous.
Rick, a good example of what ur talking about is the head of FEMA and his absolute incompetency in handling the Katrina disaster. Remember, Bush said " you're doing a heck of a job Brownie!"
Lets face the truth. The party of No and the tea baggers, Rush, Palin, Beck just can't stand the thought of a African-American in the Whitehouse.
during the Bush years the dems where the party of no. funny how soon people forget.
Bush got one hell of a lot of cooperation from the Democrats. we all thought he needed to wear a helmet so we tried to help the poor stiff but his friends in the house and senate just kept sayin ok.
JB hit the nail right on its head. All of the Presidents have used the exact same power. With "President George W. Bush made more than 170 such appointments in his two-term presidency. President Bill Clinton made nearly 140." just the most recent documented ones.
One of the reasons everyone is so vocal about this is because they can ! Everyone is wired, via TV, internet, cell phone, etc. In years past this would have been a small print story in the paper, that was used to line a bird cage the next day. Now the tiniest bit of news or "non-news" goes world-wide viral. And since everyone can now put in their 2 cents, they do! Now it is their right to do that, that is part of the entire underlying structure of our Nation.
Now, does it make it right or not, that can be contested. But the reality is that the President was following the letter of the Law according to the Constitution.
The Democrats were saying no to a leader who was returning favors and trying to manuever the governing of the country into the hands of incompetents whose only qualification was their equal determination to further enhance an already privledged and entitled class. They only ones who gained by his appts. were the corporations and businesses who wanted to inact and protect any measures that increased their influence and bottom line. Thinks like supporting with new law or new interpretations, as well incentive perks, the out-sourcing of US jobs, the off-shore incorporations to avoid taxes...these groups were given breaks and incentives by bush appointees to further erode the number of US jobs and the benefits to US workers.
Well, It's about time. Fed up.......and mad. It is time for Democrats to use their killer attitude rather than play defense. Republicans have solidified a mire 36% of the population. Democrats out-weigh them in the popular vote and our politicians have a populist cause that will win more votes than a well funded Republican hate oriented group. There is nothing as demeaning as belonging to a political party that turns the other cheek. Democrats will attract new voters and strengthen their remaining constituency when they are no longer seen a weaklings that get nothing done.
So much for the Obama promise for a bipartisan, inclusive, open government. Although I must admit, the trend toward blocking Senate confirmations seems to be growing.
Obama tried but the Republican strategy is to say no to everything. Sen Shelby of Alabama earlier this year put a hold on 90 nominees because he thought it would get him more earmarks for his state. He dropped the hold after it became public.
The push for Healthcare reform and now these appointments relieve me of a lot of worry. I had begun to believe that Obama wouldn't get anything done because of his attempt at bipartisan government. I'm glad he finally saw the light and realized that the right doesn't want to govern like adults. When a child screws up all the time, the parent has to step in and get stuff done. Guess who's the child and who's the adult.
Sorry Jim - the republicans stated quite clearly that they will no longer be working with democrats or the Obama admin. The business of government has to continue, even if the retreads pout and take their ball and go home. The republicans made their beds, now they have to lay in them. Bipartisianship doesn't mean the the minority always gets their way - they are after all the minority. It's a two-way street, and the republicans took themselves out of the game.
Yessir. Time for the Democratic party to grow some balls, run this thing down the field. Let the Republicans stomp the ground in frustration... Schoolyard bullies who simply don't get their way all the time.
Well, because repubs sat out and demanded ridiculous legislation, they were deliberately obstructing the new administration. They chose to do nothing, so they miss out on the chance to legislate. If the repubs take back Congress, then Dems will play the obstructionist. With this cycle nothing gets done, and the gap between rich and poor increases. We need to get rid of both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Go Independant and vote based on beliefs, values and prior actions.
Oh sure,he has some important work to do, he has to get some more socialist in place .This president is the worst thing that could ever happen to a free country he is putting in place a government take over of all of our freedoms. You had better get the cobwebs out of your head and wake up ,you are being brainwashed by Obama and Pelosie they are communist minded and will destroy our free country. Why in the name of god do you think Castro and Chavez both are congratulation him? They both know what Obama is doing because they did the same thing he is doing to become ruthless dictators ,Obama is being admired by these two and that doesn't ring a bell for you?
DOWN with the Republican Party. The Party of NO! The party of NO HEALTH CARE FOR EVERY AMERICAN! The party of LOWER TAXES FOR THE RICH! The party of TRICKLE DOWN WORKS! The pary of SARAH PALIN!
Did I read somewhere that the TEA Party, and Sarah Palin were headed towards Reid's hometown, Hope Reid's fellow towns people give them a very hardy welcome, lol!!!!!
Did I read somewhere that the TEA Party, and Sarah Palin were headed towards Reid's hometown, Hope Reid's fellow towns people give them a very hardy welcome, lol!!!!!
Obama did the right thing. Can't get anything done,Republicans spreading lies, holding idiotic tea parties. How much does it cost the tax payer to play these games. Maybe some people should go to a country that doesn't have a government and see if they feel safe.
The big deal is the teabagger republicans don't believe in election results unless a republican is elected. Otherwise they feel the election is invalid.
Terrified? Really? You people are like frightened children. Avail yourself of an "Obama-care" benefit and get some therapy and a prescription for Lithium.
Really? What do you have nightmares about? Welcome to my nightmare world of the previous president who made it ok to to wiretap citizens phones, legal to pick you up off the streets and thrown into prison without lawyers or judges deciding your fate and ruining the economy with 2 wars that were never on the books, are those the nightmares of which you speak? Because if those things didn't give you nightmares then you are living in a dream world!
Me, too, mousetrap. That Supreme Court decision that lets corporations spend unlimited funds on television advertising, scares me to death.
But if you're referring to health care insurance reform, it's hard to imagine having nightmares about greater access to healthcare, unless you're an insurance company CEO worried about that obscene bonus you were expecting.
THe republicans are smiling - you've played right into their hands mousetrap. They want to keep you scared and ill-informed. How does it feel being played for a dupe?
CCryder - we needed health care reform but not like this. It's just a matter of time before we go bankrupt. Tacking education reform in the bill just to lower the costs was very dirty politics. Also the behind the door arm twisting. No I am not an insurance exec. i do have health care but thats only because I served my country in the army for over 20 years. I also earned my college degree while in the Army. There are lots of opportunities for those who look. I wonder how many of the people who say they cant afford health care have more house than they should have bought, more tv, etc. i would love to see their bank statements and purchase receipts for the last 4 years. I wonder how many people with low paying jobs didnt study in school or kept popping out kids when they couldnt afford it. I am not naive enough to believe everyone who worked hard, studyed hard, etc. would be successful. There are reasons for gov't assist. But it must be mandatory that it is a hand up with mandatory job training, etc. If you keep having kids while on govt assistance when you know you are just keeping them in the cycle of poverty you should go to jail for child endangerment. (note i said keep having kids, not just one because things happen. I also said while on assistance) I was stationed in England. Sale tax close to 19%, they pay per liter what we pay per gallon, tv tax, expensive property tax, Vat, etc. That is how they pay for everything. Our gov't needs to be honest and tell everyone that EVERYONE will be expected to pay their fair (and flat rate) share of taxes. Yes if we want health care everyone will have to pay more in taxes. (oh most of the British who worked with me paid extra for private insurance if they could afford it) As for other things that are going on, with trying to restrict and control radio, tv, etc. Very scary. I wont even go into foreign policy.
Oh and to Not fooled by distractions. I do a lot of research, I have lived in a number of countries, i listen to both sides. I can relate cause and effect.
Gosh, i don't know Mousetrap, what could be more frightening than putting a guy in office that p___sed off enough muslims that they attacked us and killed 3000 of our people, then used that as an excuse to start 2 wars against wrong countries that has killed 5415 or our young men and women as well as reduced our freedoms by allowing the government to spy on ordinary citizens AND just when we thought he had done as much damage as he possibly could, he refused to see the signs that we were headed for trouble and put rules on the financial institutions, and his inaction threw our nation into financial crisis.
Frightening? hell no, we're past that. We've been pushed to the point where we're done fooling around. We're seeing your refusal to cooperate and the violence your side is throwing at us because you're not getting your way but we're also seeing the need to turn things around in spite of it. It's time to rescue our country and you'd best get over yourselves and help or we're going to push you aside and do what needs to be done.
The healthcare bill actually improves the deficit according to the CBO. This is done by cost-saving measures such as preventive care and limiting insurance company overhead, and by tax increases on the well-to-do (over $250K per couple annual income). Since the gap between the haves and the have-nots is now at levels not seen since before the Great Depression, I'm confident that they can afford it with no pain.
I'm certainly not going to defend irresponsibility, and, yes, too many people live beyond their incomes, but when those irresponsible people who don't have health insurance go to the emergency room for the most expensive care available, it negatively affects all of us. It will be cheaper to get them into a system that supports preventative care, rather than what we have now.
The previous (as of last week) system had numerous flaws, including pre-existing conditions, recisions, annual and lifetime caps, and rate increases that price out even responsible people. The Republicans had lots of time to do something about the situation, and they never even talked about it, much less did anything. The current bills were the best we could get now, and they can be improved over time.
You don't possibly think that the planning for 9/11 was done after Bush became president do you? IT must be pretty easy to go through flight school and learn how to pilot a commercail jet.
Actually bad news mousetrap - if you use Obamacare and need a script for lithium you won't probably won't be able to get it unless it's one of the drugs that are in on the rebate deal listed in the bill. But I guess everyone here who's read that would already be aware of that, yes?
OK mousetrap, try this on for size. I earn $250 a week at 2 part-time jobs and collect $130 a week in child support, my electric runs $200 - 260 a month except in winter when it shoots up to $350-400 a month, my water/sewer bill is $120 a month, trash pick-up is $34 a month, propane for heat about $2500 - 3000 per heating season, property taxes $2100 a year, cable/phone internet bundled at $150 a month and food for 8 people - anywhere from $100 to over $200 a week. If you do the math, you'll wonder how it's possible It's not. I'm always robbing Peter to pay Paul. I don't eat out, I don't go to the movies or most places you need to pay to get into. I don't buy Christmas or birthday presents. I don't own a car. I own my own home and don't have a mortgage, but I have no savings, no life insurance, no homeowners insurance, no dental insurance, no health insurance. Didn't have any 5 years ago when I had a heart attack, either. That leaves me with a whopper of a pre-existing condition. And somehow I still don't qualify for food stamps or medicaid.
F*^%$%&^*#ing stupid Repbulicans.. have had enough of their whinings... complainings, and accusations. If they want talk.. ACTION speaks loudly, than do nothing. Republicans have done squat since President Obama was elected to office. They seek to obstruct every issues, every opportunity? WHY? What's the F&$#@!&ing point of doing that? President Bush had his chance and he blew it. Sheesh!
LMAO... you typical ignorant democrat... can't even spell, but you can vote.
It's the uneducated (like you) that voted this yahoo in office - because it would be a historic event, not because he was the right person for the job.
You "democracts" bitch about the money hungry Republicans, but democrats have always raised taxes, further shrinking the middle class and making the US a welfare country.
I'll continue to hang onto my education, my money and my constitution.
Andy the problem is that your constitution is made up and only used when convenient Bush himself called the constitution a piece of paper to be discarded at will.
but democrats have always raised taxes, further shrinking the middle class and making the US a welfare country.
The shrinking of the middle class has occurred because Republicans think the wealthy shouldn't have to pay for a damned thing even though they use the resources provided by the taxpayers the most. (and no they don't pay more in taxes )
The wealthy pay the same rate of taxes 15% on their UNEARNED income (which avgs 60% of the wealthiest Americans total income.) That's the same as a person making 30K.
I voted for Obama, and I expected him to do his job. He's doing good.
Few Past Republican Presidents did the same thing. So, what's the point of this ? You Republicans are saying Obama are not allowed to do it? Hmmmm..... that's a narrow viewpoint you're giving out.
actually obama's voter base was much more educated than his opponent mccain's. he kicked azz with those with a graduate degree
"LMAO... you typical ignorant democrat... can't even spell, but you can vote."
while i do support the right to education and spelling is important, common sense is more important than spelling. if you analyze appelate court nominations, laws passed, lies made, hypocritical and illegal contracts given the voters who voted for the democratic candidate were not "ignorant".
"You "democracts" @!$%# about the money hungry Republicans, but democrats have always raised taxes, further shrinking the middle class and making the US a welfare country."
you were obviously asleep or maybe "ignorant" of the first stimulus (giving the surplus in the national treasury away, tax cuts denying trillions to the government, waging a war while pushing tax cuts (a historical first), borrowing trillions from the chinese thereby giving our children's future away, deregulation among many other acts that drove this country into near bankruptcy and a near depression. these things might have had more to do with making the country into a welfare country. but let's not let reality disturb you okay?
the republican's have been serving the elites more than even their average working constituents and you continue to support them. i wonder who's really "ignorant"?
Obama promised hope & change, not politics as usual. Wasn't there something he said about his being the most transparent, open, & honest administration? He just keeps reinforcing peoples' doubts & mistrust.
In who? You? Cmon you can do better than that. I mean all these negative posts that people sit up at night composing and cutting and pasting and you post that littl ditty with no foundation in fact and just move on. Sad....
yes, but Congress never promised any transparency, openness or honesty. And they haven't disappointed. And where did the doubts and mistrust come from? From accurate verified facts? Or rumors, innuendos and outright lies? But then again, you all expect Obama to do it all by himself like some superhero. I'd have to say that is an unreasonable expectation - almost a delusion. Why would you expect something from this president that wasn't expected from any other? Feels like a double standard.
"As of October 31, 2008, President Bush had made 171 recess appointments. President William J. Clinton, in comparison, made a total of 139 recess appointments during the course of his presidency. Of President Bush’s 171 recess appointments, 99 were to full-time positions, and the remaining 72 were to part-time positions. Thirty were made during recesses between Congresses or between sessions of Congress (recesses within sessions of Congress (duration of the 24 recesses during which President Bush made recess appointments ranged from 10 to 47 days. The average (mean) duration of these recesses was 25days, and the median duration was 26 days."
Just thought I'd let you know before the republicans (lower case to denote irrelevance) start squawking.
It's about time!!! The division between the GOP and the Administration is deeper than the Grand Canyon and the Republicans have already said they will not work or agree with Obama on ANYTHING! Important and needed positions must be filled and it has been over a year and the GOP has stymied too many of the nominations.
Get on with it! After all, Bush did it with the full agreement of his party. Let them scream and yell and rant and rave - if it isn't this matter, they would find something else to complain about.
Isn't the "blame it on Bush" bit just a little past its prime these days??? You want to talk about the Bush era... don't forget all the filibusters, dirty politics and even death threats - yes blatant unaddressed death threats where the media and democrats in congress didn't even bother condemniung....
This hypocrasy on the left is so unreal and pathetic.
It isn't a matter of "blame it on Bush" that is rampant, it is the idea that the GOP is trying to set up one set of rules for themselves and their own like Bushes, Reagan, Nixon, Eisenhower, Hoover, et al, and another for Obama.
When the GOP rushes to condemn something Obama does that Obama's GOP predecessors did, but way more, it causes the comparison to come up over and over. If the GOP had kept its mouth shut about the recess appointment, no one would have felt compelled to point out how many times Bush Jr. had used it.
Dirty politics is dirty politics, but we are reaching some real lows. The open calls to violence are downright scary. It is only by the grace of God and by intent that someone has not felt empowered by this silly rhetoric that someone has not assassinated anyone. Watergate was a "dirty trick" but nothing on the order of Eric Cantor holding a press conference that he had had shots fired through the windows of his office because he opposed the health care proposal. He referred specifically to "leftwingers." But later that day while addressing AIPAC, he claimed that it was anti-semites and it was because he was a Jew. The police report says that a shot fired into the air from as much as miles away, came down at a sharp downward angle, punched through the glass, but did not leave any trace on the closed blinds. The intact bullet was found a foot inside the window on the carpet. This rhetoric that is out of hand. Someone is going to work this around in their muddled little brain and then do something crazy. And this sort of thing is being instigated by the GOP via the Tea-Baggers.
Chris - I must agree with you that we are reaching the lowest level of dirty politics. But it has all come from Obama himself. How many bribes, threats and arm twistings occurred to get his votes???
Personally I don't care about the republican or democrat party. But sitting back as an independant, my eyes aren't blinded to the party politics that it appears many are. Your talking points about the GOP are very hypocritical as the democrats did the very same thing to Bush. As for calls to open violence, during the Bush presidency there are pictures of demonstrators with signs calling for death to Bush. Neither the media or your heros in the democrat congress condemned them. Yet I have heard the Republicans in congress condemn any act of violence. I have heard Rush, hannity and Glen Beck (whom many on the left accuse of being hate mongers) always call for PEACEFUL demonstrations. I have watched demonstrations from both sides and the left always have a tendency of being violent and destructive. What I saw from the tea Partyers was very peaceful (and they cleaned up after themselves... hmmmm) So.. one has to wonder who is instigating. The left have always done the very thing that they claim others are doing. They have an established method of victimizing, demonizing and lying about anyone they chose to oppose.... I have yet to hear the GOP or tea party goers instigate violence...
Your term of tea-baggers goes to show you can't see beyond party rhetoric.
retired marine: Your rhetoric has gotten pretty old no offense. It's always blame it on Obama and the democrats. Both have equal blame to share but I see the democrats as stepping up to the field while the republicans are doing nothing.
Jeff... both sides are puffed up and full of themselves... but I have been watching the republicans being shut out of most negotiations... For example the dems made up this monstrous bill.... then said here take it so we can call it bipartisan.. Where were the open and clear discussions? Where was CSPAN as the president promised? Not only were the republicans shut out... we the people were shut out as well. It is such a bad bill that they did not want us to see it. They had to rush the vote and keep congressmen to hurry a vote on it before they even read it and especially before they went back to their districts and heard from the people about it... Obama, Pelosi and Reid didn't want congressmen to be swayed by the people that they were supposed to be representing.
Only thing old is the rhetoric I hear from the left. Hell even after losing an election the democrats wanted to take Bush to court and let the court decide who won... want to talk about cry babies... democrats have been the party of whine and cry for decades
How do you include someone in a process whose only goal is to shut that process down?
The Republicans have done something no political party has ever done in America, totally not accepted the results of an election. Up until now, if you lost an election, you accepted the voters decision and worked to show yourself deserving to be elected, not try to shut down the government.
The Republican'ts are so filled with poison regarding how their leadership lied and cheated them, that they feel that they deserve another crack at destroying America once again. It wasn't enough that we have a Republican Recession that almost equals the Great Depression in it's economic impact (I'm out of work, too) but they won't be happy until they finish the job of killing the middle class altogether.
How many bribes, threats and arm twistings do you think Bush and Cheney(I'd bet mostly Cheney) use to get what they wanted?
I don't blame Bush for most of what happened under his watch, because he was a simpleton who just wanted to be a cowboy. Cheney and other shrewd manipulators and monopolizers, were obviously convincing him to make most of his bad choices.
Every politician and WH Admin. has to scratch backs to get theirs scratched. Obama is no different in that regard. I'd be willing to bet that the Bush admin.(especially Cheney), got their backs scratched more than they scratched anybody else's. They also loved the "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy
How were Dems able to accomplish "blocking Bush", when Reps had more control for at least 6 out of the 8 years Bush was in office?
Even most right wingers probably have a hard time swallowing that one. You are recognized for another fear mongering manuever(manure), based on a falsehood.
The Bush Admin did more last minute/late night bill signings, than any of the 2 WH Admins before him(including his father's).
Finally the President realizes that the Republicans are lame duck. Let the people judge Obama, not the party of Bush/Cheney/Palin/and the hypocrite from Arizona!
where have you been? The people told Obama a resounding NO on the healthcare plan of his... he passed it anyway through arm twisting, threats and bribes to get his votes. He will be judged... he has already far exceeded carter as the worse president of all time.
He is making History. First President to force a bill against the will of the people, First president to take over the private secot in banking, auto industry, health insurance industry... and who knows what is next. He is the first president that is actively attempting to bankrupt America. Oh and with his "universal healthcare" bill he has effectively forced America into the first steps of socialism (which is only a stepping stone for communism).
Retired Marine - what "People" are you speaking of that gave the President a "resounding" no on healthcare? You mean those addled brained sheep who were whipped into frenzies by the rich and getting richer everyday Limbaugh and Beck? You certainly were not speaking of me nor my associates nor my extended family nor the people I associate with. We gave high-fives all around last Sunday.
As for the "worst president" of all time - my dear gawd - you didn't give that honor to the shrub whose mess Obama inheriited?
Good job, President Obama - healthcare and these appointments. It's about time someone cut the legs off those idiot fundamentalist extremists.
I'm now waiting for Limbaugh to make good on his promise to leave the country. Hah!
No they did not it never went negative Quit listening to those radio guys. Right now approve is close to 55%. Also the negatives included left winger who wanted things in the bill like single payer and the govenment option. get your facts straight and stop trolling garbage.
the only garbage is listening to your party and liberal polls. If you widened your intake of information just a little.... check out polls from all sides... do a little math. This was and is an unpopular decision. One that the American people have been repeating their disagreement on for many decades now.
The American people have been repeating their disagreement on this for many decades now? Well, guess what - we are in a new century, lots of new people who do not understand why employer-based healthcare should be de riguer - esp when most other western countries do consider health care as a primary protection in people's lives.
Oh, and by the way that "change" is working just fine for me. Thanks for asking.
The Party of No! is becoming more and more pathetic every day. Bush had over 165 recess appointments. Where was John McCain then? It is all about winning for them, not about governing, not about the People, not about the Country. Distortions of fact, one mre example, along with the misstatements, and outright lies delivered to the unsuspecting public, all designed to further their master plan: get back in power at any cost, regardless of its effect on the People.
Ms. Palin is seen as the Party of NO!'s Savior, People line up to hear her speak as though they were all 10 to 12 year olds going to a Hanna Montana Movie. Listen to what the woman has to say, all the magic Party of NO! Buzz words, but neither she nor the GOP have any new proposals, just the same tired platitudes, and tax cuts, even though the country is drowning in debt, made necessary because of their failed economic polices of the past 8 years. Bush and the GOP were such cowards they didn't want the public to know we were in a real war, so no new taxes to pay for it, Likewise, no regulation of Banks or Brokerage houses, instead, Bush and the Lemmings in Congress got us here over 8 years. yet after one year of Obama, the mess they created is now his fault.
Totally amazing thought processes going on here, but obviously her followers believe it, regardless of the actual facts available to anyone who is interested in learning them.
the only garbage is listening to your party and liberal polls. If you widened your intake of information just a little.... check out polls from all sides... do a little math. This was and is an unpopular decision. One that the American people have been repeating their disagreement on for many decades now
Only people who have been in disagreement for decades are the ones who have been fleecing the American public for all those years with their annual 18-20% increases and as far as the polls go they speak for themselves and even the right wing polls said so. Please do not tell us you are referring to the push polls your people pump up.
Funny if you go to the actual congressional website where the bill is located and the full text can be read, only 22% of people are in favor of it. If people would stop being blinded and bother to look at the history of the past, oh, 20 years or so, they'd see that both the Democrats AND the Republicans have done a good job sinking the American people. Both parties have a stench on them that nothing will cover at this point, and while everyone's complaining about the party de jour to hate, Republicans, right now, history tells us it won't be long before that swings back to the Democrats - and then the cycles continues to repeat. And we the people continue to let it be so.
Bravo, Mr. President. If the GOP doesn't want to engage and participate, then this is what they should expect. The Presidency is a powerful, sometimes blunt, instrument. Just look at LBJ and what he was able to accomplish being blunt and decisive. Sorry Republicans, elections have consequences.
The rest of the story is that they were voted against in a bipartisan way. The votes were 52-43 against. The vote also happened before Kennedy's seat was filled so the Repubs didn't didn't block these the Dems did. It's an underhanded tactic with complete disregard for the system.
Good for him. It is time to stop trying to get along with the Republicans. They care nothing about this country or proper behavior. I am embarrassed to have ever called myself one. I now see them for the disgusting crooks they are and will never again vote for a Republican.
The party of WAAHHHHH!
He has a plan for the country and it's not one of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Very sneaky guy.
It says a lot when the current crop of GOP so-called leaders can make Richard Nixon look good. Actually, had a lot more going for him than these buffoons.
TYRANT
Welcome to the "Kick Ass Democrats!"
Sounds like our Communist Muslim Dictator is acting like the spoiled child again. Any day now he should be announcing himself as Dictator for LIFE. We need a rail alright, but it t is to PUT every LYING, THIEVING DEMOCRAT on it and run them OUT of the country.
They're all pathetic hypocrites.
You have to be anti-intellectual and a downright fool to support either party.
Hard to imagine how it could be any deeper than it is now, but things can always get worse, unfortunately.
Our current Dictator, Barry "0", makes Mussolini look like a saint. Carl Marx be-a-smile'n in his grave.
Obummer: “Free stuff for all my little people and useful idiots! May you always vote Democratic”
Wow there sure are a lot of progressives trying to look like they were once republicans. These guys are really bad actors.
Does anyone remember Bush's recess appointment of John Bolton to be U.N. ambassador? Now there was a horrible appointment.
Obama and the Democrats must be stopped.
The great uniter was Bush you ninny!
The Republicans have nothing.
Even their bad, circular arguments are dead.
Good riddance.
Slam Dunk!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL LOL LOL
don't confuse the obstructionist, knee-jerk reactionaries with little things like facts and the constitution.
This is no big deal, people.
Every recent President, regardless of party affilation, has done the exact same thing.
No need to make a mountain out of a molehill!

I'm getting sick and tired of this garbage.
but making mountains out of molehills is what crybaby, kneejerk ninnies do best.
Glad all you libs are appy w/the honesty transparency doing everything above board.
This clown should be impeached
I am glad the Republicans are angry. I hope the have much more to be angry about. Being angry is all they know how to do.
I hope they never run out of things to be angry about. It is fun to watch them turn red and sputter, almost as much fun as watching Glenn Beck cry.
I call the people collapsing comments "Newsvine Nazis".
Oh, weekends. 1, 2, several others restored.
Not these, though:
Don't bother, Dennis-956826. Crystal balling about other Viners' political history is a waste of your time. If you didn't read #1 last time, read it now.
tim-580939, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor. Don't grenade-troll.
So much for transparency.
Oh, the Congressmen that made those suggestions are ones who have foreign auto factories in their state (non-union)... of course!
Since the Nazis in here collapsed my post, I'm reposting it.
I call the people in here who are collapsing posts they don't agree with, Newsvine Nazis.
Collapse it again, and I'll just repost it.
Cool... of course that doesn't change the offensive things being said, does it?
Bottom line is:
The people crying about their "freedoms being taken away by Obama", shouldn't be trying to collapse/censor other people's opinions/posts. Especially if it isn't vulgar or personally attacking them.
The Senate VOTED AGAINST Becker! They voted him down! Then Obama appoints him anyway!??! AMAZING. Obama just doesnt like it when people dare to disagree with him and he will just find a weasley way to circumvent the traditional rules.
Agreed!
First he rammed through health care, now this.
Cap and Trade and legalizing illegal aliens is next.
What do we call him now Mr. President, King Obie or God?
both of you belong over at fire dgog lake where the uninformed and ignorant go to remain uninformed and ignorant
I think Massah Barack would be the proper title for our leader. As in "Thank You Massah Barrack may we have another?"
_sshole.
So is this the ONLY appointment that has paid his taxes maybe? Doubt it, he is an Obama buddy and obviously a lousy Democrat.
Thank you too Massah Johnson.
Ok Newton. It's now clear what drives YOUR agenda...confirming again one of the major reasons for the health care opposition.
Boy are you wrong or lying:
FTA: Republicans complain
-------------------------------------------------------------
In other news, today the sun rose and is expected to set at night.
That would not even cost anything.
marine, since when are lies and character assasination means of intelligent discussion? only the slavish followers of talk radio hosts consider their screaming drivel as intelligent.
Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah!!!!!
the Senate actually voted to confirm Becker 52 - 43, they did not vote him down.
Bush 43 made 171 recess appointments, 104 of which were full time positions.
Payback is hell...
The Party of NO are REALLY sore losers...........
They held up his appointment.
Get over it, Party of No. You lost the election and this country needs to move forward, like it or not!
Schnubees
It's time for the "nuclear option".
Bush had 167 recess apointments. Short memory for the baggers.
Have you all forgotten Georgie so quickly. Ok for Republicans to do but not Democrats?! Quit your whining; We won!
schnubbes, you seem to forget that G.W.
RetiredMarine:
GOOOOO OBAMA AND DEM"S!!!!!
SO WHAT ! 15 appointments
Who cares - the country is going to disintegrate -
Look at the tenor of the arguments in the vine - they are becoming much more angry each day subject by subject -
Look at what is happening in the country -
Obama promised in his campaign he would work hard to bring the country together -
Hasn't happened - Hasn't tried !
oldnewgrad, rn: You asked, so I'll correct you because you are completely wrong.
Schnubees
The Senate VOTED AGAINST Becker! They voted him down! Then Obama appoints him anyway!??! AMAZING. Obama just doesnt like it when people dare to disagree with him and he will just find a weasley way to circumvent the traditional rules.===============
====================
Retired Marine-876958
jeff... have you seen the increase in deficit??? Obama surpassed Bush's entire presidency in that department in his first year alone....============
================
retired Marine, got some bad news for you sunshine.
=======================
The truth is that Becker was never voted on because the Republicans blocked any vote. There was no vote. Get your facts straight.
Especially since he will fine and punish us if we disobey the Massa.
republicans in the senate, not everyone.
It's too bad the Repugs are riled again...give it a rest, already! : -)
Makes November all the sweeter.
When the Republicans take over the House, I hope they investigate the true cause of the financial meltdown (Chris Dodd and Barney Frank) that caused Americans to lose over $15 Trillion in savings. You'll notice that the Democrats won't investigate - I wonder why????????????????
There was no vote. That's why the president appointed him.
Gee...where was the hollering when George W did the same thing?
Schnubees:
It really says a lot about the people who voted for your post. They look for anything to blame Obama for, and usually pick a false argument to attack him with.
45 votes for your post(1 of them yours, I'm sure), and none of them had enough sense/integrity to research and see that you are wrong.
Becker wasn't "voted down" like you claim, by the Senate, or anyone else. They've been abstaining from voting, Obama called them on it, then went ahead without them when they balked.
More lies and fear tactics from "rightie"
allowing one senator to hold up an appointment is another dysfunction procedure of the Senate which should be abolished.
Welcome to the Dictatorship of America, or as you children will know it, China West.
"pjam" you are, OF COURSE referring to the Bush years....wherien he lied to, bankrupted, and embarrassed America....whil making the rich richer, and the poor poorer...way to go Dub, thanks for your legacy...it's one HECK of a mess to clean up after.......
the reasons are many roy, and a large one was the republican mantra of "no regulation is good regulation".
add to that the greed of banks and mortgage brokerages taking advantage of people with solid fixed-rate 30 year loans supplied by fannie may/freddiwmac, and replacing them with 1/4 point neg amortization loans that pay huge commissions to the salespeople who kept telling the homeowners that it was "such a great deal" just to line their own pockets at anothers expense.
go on chanting that partisan koolaid crap and keep sticking your head in the sand.
Weasel is too nice of a word for that guy. I this equivicating prevaricator worls pretty good - lying worm.
Dont let em scare you since the gun laws have been liberalized we all have em.
Remember dump(y), Democrats can shoot too...
Yep we seen that when the Dems voted for socialized medicine. They shot themselves.
Uh Brad, we'll just see, won't we?
Go D!
And Clinton named 140. Your point?
Wah wah wah party of No!

@dave
Hence I doubt you are or ever have been a Marine..if so you are most likely Jim Kerry posting anonymously.
mark,
do you see the contradiction in your statement? you threaten to put libs in concentration camps while bashing a poster for threatening people because of their political ideology. lmao.
"And Clinton named 140. Your point?"
I think the point is every president does it. So why are the republicans up in arms about it? They sure didn't make this much noise when John Bolton was appointed during a Senate recess. John McCain wasn't talking about how Bush had no respect for the Senate.
You're right lib the Dems have "strapped them on"; how else would a bunch of pussy cats keep f**king America?
pjam09 should be suspended or banned.
"You're right lib the Dems have "strapped them on"; how else would a bunch of pussy cats keep f**king America?"
That's just vulgar and unnecessary.
I suspect that some are upset because this is just another example of the Change that we were to believe in that is not happening. It is just politics as usual and you wonder why you believed the bs in the first place.
This liar needs to be impeached, BEFORE a civil war is started.
He is already turning this country into the United Socialists of America.
Its not "change you can believe in", its rather "change in your beliefs".
A pack of lies, a mockery of democracy, that is what we are being force fed.
Gee, Bush made 171 recess appointments...........short-term memory loss about his appointments????
Harley-302966
Direct and honest posting, great job!
good to see some intelligence on this MSNBC thread.
The US government needs it's department heads to run the freaking government. The GOP will have one less thing now to block.
Mr President, you have my vote...again!
I like the sentiment. 15 appointees is nothing. It clearly makes Mitch McConnell look like a hypocrite.
I know the poor house and it better be big cause will all be living there
I guess chairman Obama figures he can always use a few more commies in his administration. And what’s that about him “scolding” the GOP? Does he think they care much about his rambling diatribes?
Please save this post for the next time a Republican gets into the Oval Office and does the same exact thing....
We don't want to hear you whining then....
actually Clotho the repulicans couldn't have halted anything last year because the democrats had the supermajority in the Senate and the House. So really they repubs couldn't have done anything to Obama's agenda vote wise, it was Obama's own party that couldn't get healthcare done in its first year they had the power and lost it.
Thanks momaw45!!!!
I'm glad he finally decided to do this and he gave them more than enough time to come around!! The GOP has done it many times so just let them try and say that it's never been done!! Yeh, right; so sick of their lies and hatred!!! I hope every Repub running gets voted out!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder how long before the neocons figure out the pain in their behinds is Obamas shoe.
momaw45 - and all of us hard working people are sick and tired of working just to have some liberal dip into our pockets to give to those who are too lazy to work for themselves.
KS, you don't know what you're talking about.
Rick you didn't know this, is your head in the sand or just another brainless lib.
LOL, what a farce.
Lib name calling...usually happens when they are in a corner...no common sense....
Read the content of what I wrote, Brad. Try not to cry on this thread, it's embarrassing.
Rick now you are doing the lib thing of making things up...so pretictable...ha too funny
As to the sub-prime meltdown and causes thereof, watch the link, then get back to us when you've learned something other than low-hanging talking points routed to you via Fox.
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6298082n&tag=related;photovideoG
Rick, you actually trust CBS to get anything right? They're in Obamas left front pocket. NBC is in his right.
YouTube has the recordings from the Senate hearings, and they clearly show Dodd and co. saying everything is just fine in the housing market, the the repubs desperately asking to have them checked. Post from and independent source please, not a libbie powerhouse
peace
Uh Dave, CBS got Palin right...
As to the personal comments KS, my frustration is borne out of the amount of effort, time and energy hell-bent naysayers like you spend on bringing down people in the political system who actually give a sh*t about folks like you and me - not their bottom line and what they're going to get out of their short appointment(s).
ks and Dave are just the best parrots ever... good broken record technique.
Retired Marine
GOP, the party of Hate, has been dismissed.
As one of seven community organizing type lawyers Obama received a $23,000 fee for his work.
Democrats, esp Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, blocked Republican (Eliz Dole, Chuck Hagel, John McCain) efforts to investigate Fannie and Freddie.."
Obama the lawyer caused the housing crisis, LMAO
AND Bush's buddy was running Fannie and Freddi and told congress that they were both sound in 2007.
I noticed this AM ol' KS doesn't have a lot to say... Attack and run.
kscolorado
CCarm has an informative post just above.
The slapfighting's needless, Brad-672138 and Rick in BH. You're each suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
171 total recess appointments by Bush 43, 104 of which we full-time positions.
Rick, President Monroe did something like this too....jeez live in the present....
Brad-dumbass, Monroe - Bush 43? Try and "live the present."
Remember the study that showed libs lacked common sense, Rick was part of that study.
You must be tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb.
Get to the point of my post, then respond. Monroe v Bush 43: Let's see, how many decades apart?
(And remember, no crying!)
Rick the lib calling names again...soon you should be bringing up the race card....ha libs are so funny
Yeah, George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove - old rich white guys who gamed the system and preyed on US.
Oh lets check the facts? Peloses and John Kerry have more money they do. So where is the complaining obout theme rich white people here about gaining the system.
(Spell check?)
Try $1.3 tril in taxpayer money '"given" by Bush & Co to the likes of Abramoff, Halliburton, foreign gov'ts, etc. Easy peasy.
And he was able to that in 8 years of office despite being on vacation 900+ days. Wow!
Repugnican ... in case you still don't realize it - We elected Obama as President ... you lost, get used to it.
I was waiting to see if he would finally grow a pair. Its about time!
Giv'em he77!
Last time I checked Dems controlled Congress and I have not heard of a filibuster on all 15, just the labor board guy who intends to destroy the labor/management relationship in the U.S., by his own admission.
shall we talk about Bush's appointments and the systems they tried to dismantle?
so the labor board appointee wants to destroy the labor/management relationship?
by his own admission?
would you be so kind as to inform us of these plans? And please use quotation marks for his actual words.
Mother, do your own research.
Rick in BH
Bill-Austin
Yep, can you see when they were babies the first words ottered "TAX CUT" "TAX CUT" "TAX CUT"
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL :-)
Ritchie & Bill, you forgot one thing. Republican tax cuts true but you forgot to add this bit of truth- Republican tax cuts for the wealthy ONLY is their mantra!
Gunny
Semper Fi
We just didn't like the reform proposed and the way we the people were excluded from the process of it being passed
Now that was way out there. i am still laughing if this was sarcasm if not it had to be a joke.
im glad something is going pro labor
Dear Tammy Tears & Fears,
We heard the same premonitions, warnings, fear-mongering with Social Security. Old, ineffective arguendo.
Rick,
How is social security doing?
Bush wasted eight years trying to privatize social security when the American people were clearly against it. Imagine if it had been privatized years ago and then the stock market meltdown hit. Social security is the safety net which is supposed to remain relatively safe.
If people want to gamble with their own money they can do so with their IRAs, 401Ks and private savings.
Time for a mature solution, like the bipartisan Reagan-O'Neill Deal in 1983. However, maturity is out of the reach of the party of "no" these days.
All this yitchin.... I can get health insurance now! I'm thrilled! All the rich folks have to pay more taxes? Oh cry me a river.
Maybe my hormones are just catching up to me, but reading this made me cry. If ANY of them, including Obama, could just forget the stupid party politics we might just get something done in this country.
Actually the less the gov't does (both parties) - the better off we are....
Matchi:
Sorry, but the Repubs have already said they will do nothing for the rest of the year!!! It would be nice, but you must be in la la land if you think otherwise!
heck its been at least 15 years since they did anything anyway.
If only they would work in a bipartisan fashion or truley sit back and 'do nothing' while others get work done....
ummm...how did the McCain Palin thing on the road work out LAST TIME?
I think McCain just alienated himself. That woman reminds me of the crazies who come down out of the mountains every 3 months for supplies.

Anarchy: 1 a : absence of government b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
Big deal, it just that they are limited to no more than the length of each Senate term that is left, and not the full term.
during the Bush years the dems where the party of no. funny how soon people forget.
Are you twelve? Cause I know 13 year olds are smarter then this.
Brad:
Every time you post, I wonder when your parents are going to make you turn off the pc, brush your teeth and go to bed.
I haven't seen many more immature posters here, than yourself.
Two words for the very forgetful republicants. JOHN BOLTON!!!!!!!
D- you rock!
Rick you are a rock...with arms
Brad:
I'd slap ya, but I don't want to go to jail or get sued for striking a child.
How dumb are you? The Republicans are the party of "NO" and I understand they changed the no to "HELL NO".
Rick, they are a bunch of little girls that want their way ..... LOL LOL LOL
Now it would be nice to get a lot of the NO sayers out come November, than we will be on the road to recovery ......
Go Independant and vote based on beliefs, values and prior actions.
took him long enough. maybe now he can get some more important work done.
The party of LOSERS......
Did I read somewhere that the TEA Party, and Sarah Palin were headed towards Reid's hometown, Hope Reid's fellow towns people give them a very hardy welcome, lol!!!!!
Did I read somewhere that the TEA Party, and Sarah Palin were headed towards Reid's hometown, Hope Reid's fellow towns people give them a very hardy welcome, lol!!!!!
would someone be willing to explain in clear, simple terms just what socialism is and isn't so that we all can work from the same definition?
I love Vaudeville.
Obama did the right thing. Can't get anything done,Republicans spreading lies, holding idiotic tea parties. How much does it cost the tax payer to play these games. Maybe some people should go to a country that doesn't have a government and see if they feel safe.
Ummmm. Mr. Bush made 170 appointments in this manner. So, what's the big deal?
The big deal is the teabagger republicans don't believe in election results unless a republican is elected. Otherwise they feel the election is invalid.
I am absolutely terrified and will have nightmares about the direction our country is going
Terrified?
Because if those things didn't give you nightmares then you are living in a dream world!
tjcenter,
Well put. Although you only scratch the surface.
Me, too, mousetrap. That Supreme Court decision that lets corporations spend unlimited funds on television advertising, scares me to death.
But if you're referring to health care insurance reform, it's hard to imagine having nightmares about greater access to healthcare, unless you're an insurance company CEO worried about that obscene bonus you were expecting.
tjcenter - Obama signed an executive order continuing the Patriot Act. So much for due process.
I also said while on assistance)
I was stationed in England. (oh most of the British who worked with me paid extra for private insurance if they could afford it)
As for other things that are going on, with trying to restrict and control radio, tv, etc.
It's time to rescue our country and you'd best get over yourselves and help or we're going to push you aside and do what needs to be done.
mousetrap @ 18.7
So sleep well, things are finally looking up.
itgranny,
You don't possibly think that the planning for 9/11 was done after Bush became president do you?
Sheesh!
Fed up Democract!
LMAO... you typical ignorant democrat... can't even spell, but you can vote.
Well you started off nice the dropped right down below the person you were chastising so if he is bad so are you
Andy the problem is that your constitution is made up and only used when convenient Bush himself called the constitution a piece of paper to be discarded at will.
Give me a break.
This is the TRUE redistribution of wealth.
Good.. got a response from you all.

You're new, Conservative Girl-1720351. Get familiar:
You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Bush used to do this all the time, so what's the big deal?
Nothing but the right has to blow off steam once in a while or their heads explode. Something theat is comical since most are empty and implode.
Stalin did stuff like this all the time...whats the big deal?
Stalin adhered to the American Constitution? I would have liked to have seen that. Too bad it is just your fantasy.
Feels like a double standard.
jayney...true....absolutely NO transparency & people have lost count of the lies & broken promises.
#22.5 OMG what hypocracy to suggest that the negative posts come from the right!
Yeah President O'Bama we don't have time for bipartisan politricks of the right.
Go ahead... bow down to your king and master.
Retired Marine,
It isn't a matter of "blame it on Bush" that is rampant, it is the idea that the GOP is trying to set up one set of rules for themselves and their own like Bushes, Reagan, Nixon, Eisenhower, Hoover, et al, and another for Obama.
Isn't the "blame it on Bush" bit just a little past its prime these days???
Most people will stop blaming him when they recover from his idiotic presidency. That may take a couple of lifetimes for some.
Most people still remember it was the Dems who blocked Bush when he wanted to change things and then blamed him for their failure.
RetiredMarine:
They also loved the "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy
bklynj:
How's that change working out for you????
