Now the Republican front-runner for a U.S. Senate seat, Marco Rubio is trying to weather revelations about his credit card use, double billing for airfare and murky finances.
Potential clouds for Fla. Senate front-runner

Rubio is going to have to change his campaign slogan from "Take A Stand", to "Take the Stand"!!
salary 175k each committee served on 20k, free medical, free office, free staff, lobyists paying for everything, and your political party giving out credit cards like candy, for the politicans to live better; do you ever wonder why politicans disconnect with the electrote right after they are elected, they live in a dream world!
They sure do. Can you imagine how poorly he'd manage the federal budget if he can't manage his own personal accounts and those of his party while Speaker of the FL House?
Seriously? People are worried about $134 charge when Pelosi spends $8,000-$10,000 a month on alcohol on the private jet we taxpayers pay for?
You're worried about a hotel room charge when Obama spends millions each week flying around the country when there is zero reason for taxpayers paying for these extraordinary expenses?
Congress spends tens of billions a day on whatever the hell they want to, supporting billionaire banking and Wall St buddies, and this is a story?
Funny - not haha funny, stupid/moronic/idiotic funny.
The private jet came about for Dennis Hastert when he was speaker, but who cares. I could care less who wins out in Fla, Democrat, Republican, Rubio, Crist, or Castro, what is important to me is the truth. I know people who I worked with that had company credit cards. Some got into serious for personal charges. Their excuse, I thought I used my personal card and by the way I repaid the charge. When anyone has a card that is not personal use, they know the difference every time they charge against it. Improper billing my foot. The guy knows he charged for personal use. Get real, if he were employed by me, he would be fired and prosecuted and I wouldn't give a dang what his politics were. I never used a company card, always paid and got reimbursed. These guys could do the same, sure would stop the club parties.
"The Internal Revenue Service is looking into the spending by Rubio and others Republican leaders"
Sounds as if the IRS is in receipt of a "enemies list" ala Nixon. This sleazy admin will stoop to anything.
robert we will stoop to anything to get this cancer called the repubs, when you remove cancer you cut deep and wide
Why is the IRS not looking in to the Rangel case? Where is the case against,Geithner,Daschle,Seibulis,Rangel,Then the Actors,Snipes,Cage,Nelson.why are they not in Jail and the other government workers we have heard about in the past. Are there too many Democrats who do not pay taxes to look into?
He fits right in with the rest of the Republicans. Fiscally conservative my rear end.
And Paul F. let's take a look at what Bush/Cheney spent if you really want to open up a can of worms.
And it's your precious Republicans who did not want the Wall St. reform until they realized how stupid they looked and did a complete turn around.
He is just practicing Republicon "family values."
What's the problem?
So is Rubio a lying, hypocritical thief or is he a typical Republican who can't add two and two.
Actually I vote for all of the above. He is a typical lying, hypocritical GOP thief who can't do basic math.
How about Rangle, Easley, Perdue, etc, etc, they ALL made accounting errors. And two of these have been convicted...... Ha! Ha!
Gee Mom, everyone else is doing it!!!
Yes Beaver, but that doesn't make it right.
Its not that everyone else is doing it it is that the ones doing it have not been sent to jail. The lack of punishment for the crime is the problem, seems like it is who you are. Rangel,Daschle,Geithner,Sebelius,Sloano, Kiffler,Brainard,Marshall, Ron Kirk,Or Cage,Snipes,Nelson,Pamela Anderson,Warwick,Sinbad, etc, etc.
Given the flops we've had in Florida Jeb Bush, George "Mission Accomplished" Bush we deserve a shyster like Rubio
Maybe you'd like Jimmy Carter back?
That would have been a vast improvement over Bush.
You must be too young to remember the Carter years! From everything I've read and watched Jeb Bush was a great Governor.
myrtle yea he help his brother fix the election he did good
myrtle66 you need to reread about carter.
Don't need to reread. I was there.
The Carter years. Dealt with a false economy created via Nixon printing dollars. Dealt with an oil embargo. Asked people to sacrifice in tough times. Had his fed chairman deal with inflation and largely controlled it during the last two years (did the dirty work). Was victimized by the CIA working covertly with the Reagan/George HW Bush team to put Reagan into the Oval Office. Surging in 1980, the CIA delayed the Iran hostage deal, killing any chance to win.
Bush deat with 9/11 and a collapsed economy. Chose to create a war-time economy, and laisez-faire for business, on the premise that economies would expand, given a free reign.
In the final analysis. HYG. America dosen't like "weakness". Carter expemplified the perception, but in thruth, was a great leader with a concscience. Bush, based on his moral/immoral foundation created chaos at hom and abroad.
As for Rubio, typical Paleo con backed shill, who will further the problems caused by the same
Myrtle 66,
Carter was a very, very educated and intelligent man. And he was too honest to fit in.
Does MSNBC not think that we see through the propaganda of this story?Please.... if Rubio were not a conservative, none of this would be news. It's just a way to try to nullify the tea party movement. Give me a break... By the way did Tim Geitner ever pay his taxes?
I think the better question would be whether you are able to see through Rubio.
Obviously no more than you are able to see through Reid, Frank, Dodd and the rest. There is corruption on both sides, but you sure don't see the media investigating the left. A bit hypocritical at the least.
hogwash.... cant blame msnbc. Go watch ur fox news and drink the kool aid.
Yeah, the AP and MSNBC is fair and balanced. I prefer the Christian Science Monitor or CSPAN, where I can get straight answers. You need to get some more of Keith Obermann or Chris Matthews, Ed Shultz and the other two whose names I can't even remember.
I don't watch much of Fox, but at least they do try to offer the opposition a forum.
looks like goldenboy is as corrupt as the rest of them.
And yes, Geithner paid his back taxes as soon as the error was discovered (and before assuming his office.) Corruption does exist in both parties. It's too bad the electorate continues to elect them after the greed, corruption, and sexual exploits are revealed.
myrte
You demonstrate what is wrong with politics today. You defend your side no matter what the issue and whether or not you have any facts to support you. Meanwhile, you are quick to point out something in the enemy camp .... usually some elementary school tactic like "he did it first" or "she did it too" and "why don't you say anything when they do it" This partisanship just shows a lack of rational thinking and has no place in political discussion.
It has everything to do with political discussion and is what makes this country great. I'm as entitled to my opinions and my ideology as much as anyone else. Just because my opinion is different from yours doesn't make it wrong. Also, other than FOX news there is no outlet for my views. If you don't believe the media in most forms is extremely liberal biased, than I would have to think you have your head buried in the sand.
The media (including MSNBC) HAS been involved in reporting/investigating "the left" as you call them myrtle. I guess you tune out on that? MSNBC did several stories on the recent democrats who resigned because of "corruption."
myrtle
Your lack of skepticism and unwillingness to view issues in a rational manner just makes you a dupe, a lackey, and a gopher for people like Rush and Glen. That's why that instead of getting some worthwhile viewpoint from people like you, we get "left-wing media" and "drink the Kool-Aid" and "bend over and grab your ankles." Try thinking for yourself for a change. If this is the best you can do, you have my sympathy.
I do think for myself. I'm no lackey or dupe, as you call me. I'm very well studied and make my own decisions by what I have learned and what I believe in. Because I agree with Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh makes me no less informed than you listening to Olberman or Maddow or "give him chills" Chris Matthews. And yes, I do tune in to them once in a while just to see what kind of lies they are spewing about "my side".
Is Rubio a teabagger??? I thought he was just a Republican!!
myrtle if you put one once of truth in rush and beck you are out there people like you are so off base you are part of the problem i'll pray for you
I feel sorry for you bed wetters,Geithner was sent forms about his taxes 4 times once each year and ignored them,Daschle worked on the financial committee and knew he was responsible for the taxes he owed but ignored them,Sebelius tried to slide a taxable gift by as charitable and got caught,Ron Kirk, just did not pay his 13,000 tax bill,Kiffler,Marshall, and Brainard all just owed back Taxes and had to be fronted before paying up.Rangel has used the democratic excuse,I just forgot. What kind of Crapola are we allowing the politicans to get away with?
I think the democrats are worried. Why else are they investigating? There are plenty in their own party that they could investigate, like Barney Franks, Dodd, et al, but we know that won't happen as long as the democrats control Congress. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
You've got the right idea Tammy. We could write forever and a day about the corruption in the democratic party, so why all of the interest in a Florida Senate race? Because they know they are sunk in November and have to try to smear whoever they can on the right.
The democrats aren't investigating. Apparently SOMEONE in FL requested that the Justice Department look into the potential illegal use of "non-profit" monies (the national/state parties are considered non-profit and have strict limits on how they can spend the money). I haven't been able to find any site that confirms who filed the request with the JD, but it could even have been Gov. Christ or his campaign committee. Don't be so hasty to blame this investigation on the other party when the real battle in FL is an internal struggle within the GOP.
BTW, this story initially broke on Tuesday, so today's story is just a follow-up to the party investigation. According to some stories, as many as 27 FL GOP members are under investigation, not just Rubio.
From the St. Petersburg Times: http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/national/us-attorney-irs-and-fbi-investigating-florida-gop-credit-card-use/1088979
Federal law enforcement agencies have launched a criminal investigation into the use of American Express cards issued by the Republican Party of Florida to elected officials and staff, according to sources familiar with the inquiry.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Tallahassee, the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service are all involved in the inquiry, which grew out of the state investigation into former House Speaker Ray Sansom. He was indicted on criminal charges that he stashed $6 million in the state budget for an airplane hangar for a friend and campaign donor.
demos arent investagating the sec is an independent agency .i think you girls better quit drinking the kool aid. if you dont have a clue and dont have an open ear stay outa the way go knit something
BTW, note that this investigation stems from a STATE investigation.
Ron you got the wrong agency. It's not the SEC, but the FBI, JD, and IRS.
Imagine that, considering his opponent is the current sitting Governor and who is losing to him by double digits. Quite convenient! By the way Ron, I don't knit and am very well versed. I guess you'll love this... I'm one of those nasty bankers!
Hmmm, maybe the three agencies should also be investigating myrtle66 for possible illegal banking practices? Isn't FL one of the states with huge numbers of failed banks?
Sorry, I'm not from Florida. My bank has not failed and did not take a bailout. We are doing just fine by doing business conservatively. It's really a serious issue for all of the good people who have lost jobs due to failed banks there. It's quite sad really. All of Florida is really suffering right now and my prayers are with them.
myrtle get your check out rubio and steel need to party tyhis weekend boy i'm glad my money isnt in your bank, has it feel to finance people to party.no wonder this country on the shape its in another repub banker,ah they follow like sheep to the slaughter
You're not even from Florida? Then STFU and keep you nose in your own state's business. Please. Crist has been a pretty good governor for a Republican and I would vote for him (despite being a liberal) because he's got at least a smidgen of integrity, unlike his sleazy, opportunistic opponent.
Yea,...Ron like the Democrats do not live high on the Hog? Who paid for the 20 security people Pelosi had at a party when there were only 18 guests? She will not say,but you can bet it was us the Tax payer.,.. Yea Crist was a good RINO governeor, and embraced Obama's stimulis and higher taxes for un-employement taxes on businesses.
"I think people are believing Marco's statement that there is nothing to this beyond accounting errors."
There sure are some gullible people in the Republican Party.
Correction in both parties and the public in general ....... "The Health Care Bill when passed will lower the deficit" for example. We only had to wait a couple of weeks after it was passed for the CBO to issue revised numbers completely debunking that obvious lie.
Nice try msnbc..."Purchases at a wine store", a $100 haircut... HaHaHa... what a ridiculous hit piece. Maybe Rachel could do a special on this in place of one of their prison life shows.
Perhaps a prison show with Rubio in the prison.
Wasn't it none other than the dems golden boy John Edwards who had a $500.00 haircut! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. geesh!
Gee Mom, everyone else is doing it!!!
Yes Beaver, but that doesn't make it right.
More political corruption. Both dems and repubs are guilty of it. The excuse of accounting errors is flimsy at best. We'll see how this plays out.
At least it sounds more plausibe than,Rangel's excuse He forgot. Or Daschle's he had none,Or Gethner's he had none because every year they sent him a notice.
Charlie Crist is one of only a handful of honest Republicans, a good man who cares about people. I live in Florida, he has run this state the way it should be. Rubio is a run of the mill crooked political opportunist.
I'm looking forward to a 3-way vote in florida wherein Crist comes back and flattens Rubio. Don't know how it will turn out until it turns out, but Crist is in the catbird seat as somebody to draw from both sides of the center, which is exactly what an Indie needs to do.
Another aluminum hat bites the dust...I'm getting the feeling the TP types are just going to be grinding their teeth in November.
i remember nixon when he was getting on the plane to nowhere [i'm not a crook,im just quiting because i'm tired. cristy like a lot of repubs is seeing the light next week he'll be a demo the honest repubs are leaving the party, spector, crist.the repubs that believe rubio on anything accounting errors ,that scary he can keep personal books straight and the repubs what him as a senator.well chaney endorsed him must be alright laughing my ass off. good luck to myrtle and all you r depositors, why didnt you mention the bank you work for.
Honestly he is a RINO,who one time says he did not embrace Obama only to be caught in the Lie.
robert----i agree. i think a good politician is one that you dont always agree with. it shows independent thought doing what HE thinks is right in different situations. i may not agree with his actions on some issues but i respect his objectivity and realization that neither party has the best answer to every problem.
crist is middle of the road which is where most people are or at least should be. he's an honest guy and he'll likely have my vote, republican, independent or otherwise.
Are Florida Republicans really that stupid to believe Rubio's financial hanky panky are "acounting" errors?
Frequently when you hear someone claim they are a true conservative, the first thing you need to do is cover your wallet because it is most likely a scam. Claiming to be, as opposed to actually being a conservative, is the true mark of a con man politician.
Judged by his actions, Rubio is a true con man!
Yea,but not like Dodd,Rangel,Schumer,Waters,Frank,Jackson lee,Reid and Pelosi.
storm-----cut and paste much?
Have you ever noticed how similar politicians are, regardless of party affiliation?
Our system of nominating and electing candidates promotes a certain 'class' of person. Fundamentally, these politicians are more comfortable spending other people's money than they are their own (note Biden's charitable giving) and they think their ideas - regardless of their expertise on any given subject - are more informed than anyone else (note the debate on healthcare; both sides). UGH :(
Can't we do better?
It doesn't look like it Bakojeff. That's why I'm a NO VOTE voter. I tell all of the candidates they don't deserve my vote with all of their lies and half-truths. They are only in it to line their own pockets even deeper.
Crist - No, Rubio - No, Whose next...
There no such thing as an honest politian. They are all crooks. Choose the one you think is the least crooked,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
A big mistake voters make is repeatedly electing lawyers to represent them. Lawyers are more prone to break the law rather than make good law. That's a big part of the problem.
Rubio is nothing but a Huevon in a bad suit.
The only thing fresh about this typical far-right Gophead is that he's young.
That's it.
He opens his mouth and I'm immediately turned off.
He has his own ambitions not the ambitions of Florida on his agenda.
Typical.
The ONLY thing thats drawing all this attention is he PROMISED to oppose NoBama at every turn. Now he's front page news.
Him and every other GOP politician and wannabe arm-chair GOP politician.
It's nothing new. Nothing original.
Come to think of it this is status quo GOP BS.
Different suit. Different face.
Yawn.
What is the suprise? "It was an accounting error" translates to "Oh s*$t, I've been caught". It goes along with "Once all of the facts are know, I'm sure I will be fully vindicated of these charges."
Politician = Corruption. Party affiliation does not matter.
They are all politicians and will do these kinds of things, big deal. Only a moron Republican or Teabagger (or whatever the hell they are) would believe Rubio when he says this is an 'accounting error'.
Dennis, another clue since you cant keep up with recent events... the tea party does not promote parties... it promotes ideals. And Moron Teabaggers will probably save your Axxx from tyrant government. But that OK. we understand everyone cant comprehend whats going on around them. Theres those that lead, those that follow and those that wonder what happened. Listen to MSNBC... they'll clue you in.
Yep,! MY Mother always told me birds pick at the best fruit. Three Ds at work for the Dems. Deceive, Divert and Deny. Deceive with BS stories on threatening opposition to divert attention from your own weaknesses and then deny it all. DEMS,,,, ain't gonna change NOVEMBER!!!!
As a native Floridian AND Republican, Rubio scares the hell out of me. For starters he claims himself as an 'ultra conservative' (our last president claimed himself one and we all know the fallout from him). But what really scares me, and what most people who do not live in Florida know, is what Rubio did concerning casino's entering Florida. Essentially the Federal Government said if Florida does not approve Casino's for Native American's, then we will. Our Governor realized this and created a compact in which the Tribe would have to give Florida $100MM. And what did Rubio do? He tried to block it. Apparently in the middle of a depression, Rubio would rather allow the State to get ZERO.
I don't know Crist or Rubio...but when your only choice is a $100MM or $0....you take the money.
PS - Do some research on Rubio and his old school UF.....still want to vote for him?
Rubio is as bad as the Democrats
Jeb, oh I mean Rubio is a typical Florida Republican Official material! A real puppet. But the voters are waking up and this time around the old fogies will have a hard time getting this guy elected. Old school GOP is coming to an end.
When the average person makes "accounting errors" with someone else's credit card, they get sued. Rubio's extreme right brand of Republicanism is not what Florida needs in the U.S. Senate. Someone whose only pledge is to fight President Obama at every turn simply has no other ideas. Although he has tapped into an undercurrent of distrust of the Obama administration that exists in many parts of Florida, he has little more than talking points to offer voters.
Charlie Crist is ready for this job on Day One. His name recognition right now in Florida approaches that of Bob Graham and Lawton Chiles, two immensely popular Florida Democrats of the past who could have robbed a Brinks' truck on live TV, taken Mother Theresa hostage, torched EPCOT and still been elected. Crist was popular as the Florida AG and is popular as governor. And despite what the Florida GOP says, Charlie still has lots of friends who are loyal to HIM, not the party, and they will follow him, not Dick Cheney. Charlie has an EXTREMELY wired statewide network of supporters. I met Charlie once, and my impression was that he is essentially a pragmatist, not a dogmatic party hack.
I think Charlie will declare as an independent, and then he will bide his time for a while, and then roll over Rubio with ease and capture the center voters in the general election. Meek (who is a pretty smart guy actually) is basically the Democrats sacrifical lamb this year. He has little money. No name recognition outside of South Florida. And he has never been in a competitive race (his three election "wins" were basically unopposed coronations for the seat his mother held). He's not a viable statewide threat.
So it will come down to the popular, experienced centrist independent candidate who has a record to point to, and the boyish firebrand with limited experience and accomplishments. Marco peaked too early and Crist will catch him by late Summer. Crist wins.
And he won't need GOP credit cards to do it.
Rubio is just another corrupt politician....like so many others we have in FL. He's a big spending, debt increasing politician. During this economic crisis, we need someone who will focus on spending cuts, and shrinking government.
I agree, Ed. It doesn't matter if it's Palin, Rubio or the "turd blossom", as Bush called Rove.
The Greed Over Patriotism, family values, small Government, free market, no regulations or rules, corporate lackeys have ruined this country with their hypocrisy and anti-American behavior. It amazes me that they can still turn out a crowd of buffoons to support their sleazy, immoral behavior.
The GOP is not for small government....hasn't been in many, many years. There's little difference between the GOP and Democrats....they're all corrupt, big government, liars.
Of course he's a crook.... and using other people's money for his lifestyle.... but so far he hasn't been at the strip clubs... that's those other republicans... But we do need to elect republicans this fall. Get them in the office and their first moves will be to cut taxes and cut services.... after about a year the american public will finally see that it costs money to run a country and that trickle down economics never need work... except to make the 1990's the worst era for the middle class... but then the republican party was never about the middle class....
Crist ... you beginning to see the Republicans for what they are?
