The whole point is that, if the work needs to be done, and can only be done by LEGAL workers, wages will have to be raised to attract the workers, and Americans will get back to work. The idea that they won't get government benefits is silly - their wives and children DO get free health care, welfare, food stamps, schooling, etc - all of which they don't pay for. Here in California, all you have to do is go into any welfare office and take a look around - 80% of the people applying for benefits speak only Spanish. 47% of people in this Country pay NO Federal and State Income Taxes, and in fact get refunds even though they pay no taxes for their children - guess what category these people fall into.

Thorndog--Saying employers should pay living wages to employees would be nice but it denies a certain reality. I'm an employer so I can tell you what that reality that SEIU and this President just don't seem to understand. One cannot afford to pay more to an employee (no matter how much we value him or even loves him personally) more than the value he ads to our product or service. It simply does not compute.

Let me give you an example of how such "economics" as this labor theory of value have caused great dislocation of our own working class in the United States today. I travel several times a year to NY and then down the coast by train to DC. Sometimes it is at night, but most recently it was in the glaring light of day and what I saw made me sick to my stomach. Miles upon miles upon miles of boarded up factories with graffitti matched with miles of abondoned or "for rent" homes that once housed the magnificent base of American labor in manufacturing.

Twin attacks from within our own country have caused these manufacturers to move their operations overseas. (1) The Unions that forced manufaturers (think the auto industry) to pay men not only for their working lives more than the value they added to the bottom line for the autos but also pensions for when they lived up to 30 more years without productivity; and (2) The "environmental laws" that made in impossible to operate our factories in a profitable fashion. Don't blame the manufacturers for moving overseas. Competition demands that we must be able to price our products so that the world market will take them.

Please note that the non-union South (particularly the Carolinas) are booming while the union states are dying or have died (Michigan). When Cap n Trade passes the rest of our manufacturing jobs that are in the smoke stack industries will be gone forever to the real polluters of the world in Mexico, China and India. Unions and law makers--you are destroying America--shooting yourselves in the foot, unless of course it is your goal to bring us down to a second or third rate power.

I went to the CBO website you gave. While perusing the page, I noticed a link to "immigration". I wanted to see how legal immigtrants were doing in our country. But the pages didn't say anything about "legals". Spent all their time talking about how illegals were good for the U.S. Treated the illegals as if they were invited guests. And the final thing that made me accept the CBO's drivel as lies is when they seemed to know how many illegal aliens there were in our country.

Not just tow the party line no matter what. We have enough people in the media that do that for us. Part of being a responsible citizen is to think for yourself not just believe what you are told. Unemployment higher "suprisingly" again this month. The rest of the stimulous with all it's glorious temporary effects (think cash for clunkers) will be ladeled out in huge quantities just in time to make it look like a recovery in time to try re elect Obama.
