He and the left are always siding with and kissing the A$$ if Islamofascism, of course he is ONE!
Typical RWNJ answer. Don't let any facts get in the way fo anything you are told to believe on FOX.
Oldbag: To put it in the words of one of your own:
"You lie."
Man are the lefty's really pushing race. Obama hauled ass to Hawaii and had his Birth cert sealed, this means he is hiding something. I don't think to many people care what it is they are just like me and want to know what he is hiding and why? He could make all this go away simply by releasing his original birth certificate and end the mystery - this is all on Obama he created the issue and he can put it to rest in a heartbeat but for some reason refuses to do so. That's it plain and simple - the lefty's can make whatever they want out of it but it is simply the deception that creates the issue. I know Obama being deceptive? say it ain't so?
What ever religion he practices is nobody's business, remember this country has freedom of religion, so just leave the man alone and quit your bickering you bunch of idiot bigots
The way this President handled this mosque issue was very stupid. What he should of said was you do have a right but I urge to respect the 9-11 victims/Americans if you want to build a bridge of peace. That is what Obama should of said. He put his foot in his mouth just like in the past. Obama does not think before he speaks. Maybe thats why a small % think he's muslim because of this stupid crap. These muslims always put their religion ahead of state which is wrong, if these people want to be a part of this western society. If they refuse to then I urge them to go live in a Arab country then. Just look at Europe and all the problems they are having and regret it 100%. America better wise up and not make the same mistake as they Europe did.
The far left idiots have nothing to stand on so they have to use their only defense by playing this race card. Its typical crappy politics. I lost all respect for the liberal left they are no didfferent then the Republicans and if the republican party do take ove the house or senate then I urge them to don't be stupid and make the same mistakes as you did in the past. WISE UP.!
Just an old windbag hater who can't stand the truth because he's too taken with the Reichwing lies of the Fox Noose channel. Corrupt Conservative Christians don't want to know the truth, they just want to believe their feel good lies.
Hey oldbag
Facts please!!! And NO - the words of Beck, Palin, Bachmann, etc are not valid references. Dates, times, and what was said from reputable sources like teh Washington Post, New York Times, etc.
The RWNJs are easy to herd. All you have to do is feed them a line that sounds plausible, and let hate rule. Like 'Obama is a Muslim', or 'Obama is a socialist' and their racist tendencies will have an outlet. This has been proven around the world. Hitler, Napoleon, Churchill, Reagan, GWB amongst others, used this technique very, very effectively. People like Ahmedinajad, bin Laden are using it right now!
Beck, Palin, etc use this strategy to raise money, and feather their own nests. Palin is now worth $18 million dollars - up from about 0 when she quit the governorship. Not bad for 18 months work. Beck is projected to make $32 million this year. All in all, not a bad con job! Wish I had their morals - could be retired!
Wow, Pat! Beck, Palin, and Bachman are not valid references, but the radical far left Washington Post and New York Times are. But you're not biased....oh no, not you!
Spider - the Washington Post is a conservative newspaper.
"radical far left Washington Post and New York Times are"
Well, thanks for letting us know YOUR bias. LOL!! Post is a radical leftist paper?! LOL!!!
spider - beck and palin are not journalists, they are entertainers. So yes, newspapers are valid references and entertainers are not.
What I find amazing is that you can't have an opinion withour being labelled as this or that. I am not RightWing nor Leftwing and yet people try to compartmentalize my opinion and label me as one or the other. Get over the hate people and look at the facts fairly and as impartially as you can. Obama is symathetic to Muslims in my opinion. That doesn't mean I hate all muslims or Obama.
One other thing. What is with Bloomberg saying we are all muslims?
Bush was sympathetic to Muslims too. Thank God. The current state of Right-wing xenophobia is getting out of hand.
So if I have an opinion different than the left wing democrats then I must be a xenophob or a racist? Is there nothing in between? Why can I not say that the mosque planned to be built near the site where over 3,000 Americans died does not build bridges between muslims and christians but continues the divide. I think it is a great thing in this country when people disagree and discuss these issues and shouldn't be broken down into a school yard name calling fight.

Hence We are the ones that need to start by allowing freedom of religion to the people that want to build the mosque.
notawhiner, You would be correct however research Islam. It is not what is being advertised. This makes you incorrect. I am not Islamic scholar however my eyes ears and braing work quite well. I know trouble coming when I see it.
Okay Ross, let's pretend for a moment this is true. He's sympathetic to Muslims. Are animal rights activists, humans, suddenly horses because they are sympathetic to them? My first point is being sympathetic to someone's plight doesn't necessarily make a person part of their cause. The second thing is not all Muslims are extremists. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. It is larger than Judaism. It is a primarily peaceful religion and shares many of the same tenets as Christianity and Judaism. People are good or evil, regardless of religious affiliation. Blaming a whole religion for the acts of some terrorists is wrong. Should all Christians be blamed for the acts of some Catholic priests who have wronged children? or militant Christians such as Timothy McVeigh who blew up the federal building in Oklahoma? It's time to stop categorizing people into groups and start holding individuals accountable for their deeds. This type of categorization is the very foundation of bigotry.
"...if the winds of politics change, I will stand on the side of the muslims." - Barak Obama - The Audacity of Hope
At least they won't tear down the strip club so the anti community center crowd will have a place to go have a drink after a hard day showing the world their hate and ignorance.
The Ground Zero Mosque is called the Cordoba Project. Cordoba was the name of a Mosque as a victory symbol over Cordoba Spain. When they Muslims were pushed back out of Spain the mosque was then Christianized. The question becomes is this a victory symbol or a healing gesture.
Consider that this Muslim purchased the property for 5 million (was worth $20 million originally) and that this Muslim has no funds to build the Islamic center is "quietly" shopping the property for - $20 Million.
America, the regardless of the real reason, which is not clear, you are being played for a sucker!
Remember Rev. Wright and all the controversy?
Obama attended his church for about 2 decades.
Rev. Wright's church is Christian (argument over how good a Christian Wright actually is will have to wait for another thread - it isn't the point here).
So unless one believes Obama was hiding his true self for 20 YEARS, that fact alone should answer the question about faith.
For those who like digging into the personal life of others (and religious preference is personal, don't kid yourselves), I guess one could ponder the form of Christianity Obama follows. Wright is an ... interesting? ... case.
Why can't his opponents just criticize him for his policy? That along should keep everyone more than busy for the next 2+ years, because there is a lot to scrutinize.
Karmirah, I remember thousands of Muslims dancing and cheering in the streets after the 9/11 attack. This was not a few extremists whooping it up in a secluded place somewhere. This was THOUSANDS of Muslims in the streets chanting for joy. What should we think of that. I don't remember any Christians dancing in the streets after Timothy McVeigh blew up the federal building in Oklahoma.
Kamirah- Think of numbers. In the past 20 years, how many beheadings, bombings, suicide bombings, stonings, hangings, and terrorist attacks have Christians done? How many have Muslims done? Sure, there are Christian terrorists attacks (abortion clinic bombers), but it's such a small number when compared to the number of attacks Muslim terrorists have committed.
hs321: "...if the winds of politics change, I will stand on the side of the muslims." - Barak Obama - The Audacity of Hope
Really folks, it takes just a moment to avoid perpetuating misinformation like that statement. I found the following link in about 5 seconds: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_obama_write_that_he_would_stand.html
Obama himself has created the confusion and could easily set everyone straight.... that is if he truly was a Christian. I believe his actions and words are proof that he is indeed a Muslim, but pretending to be a Christian. Consider these facts:
He is the only President to ignore the National Day of Prayer, a Christian day enacted by Congress
He has said that America is no longer a Christian Nation! I understand he was making a point and trying to reach out to Islam with that statement, but if he was a Christian, a true Christian he would have worded that speech differently.
He is the first President not to put a manger on the White House lawn during Christmas season.
On his most recent vacation he flew the family dog on A SEPERATE PLANE! It is forbidden for a Muslim to fly on a plane with animals. Of course he could say they forgot the dog or changed their minds about having the dog with them on their vacation... but to use a seperate plane?
He has had more WH dinners celebrating Ramadan than WH dinners celebrating Christmas or Easter!
There was an uproar when he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. By law, all Muslim's must bow to this King. To deflated the controversy over that mistake, Obama has since bowed to every other world leader afterwards.... too late, the damage was done.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.... right?
Like I said, his actions and words would imply he is a Muslim, but politics require he appear to be a Christian... but it's not working. He could have ended this confusion long ago if he were a Christian, but he can't!
What about the wars fought in Europe and the Middle East do you remember the Crusades= wars fought in the name of God or how about the Knights Templars these were Warriors/Terrorists for the catholic Church not to mention the KKK the biggest of all religious American terrorist using the bible/the name of God and Christ to promote their hate, bigotry, prejudice and crimes.
There is not one shred of evidence to suggest Obama's a muslim. There is a lot of evidence that shows he's a Christian (Rev. Wright is a Christian, whether you like him or not). The obvious answer to the question is that people claim that Obama's a muslim because they are trying to manipulate the ignorant into voting for republicans. It's typical Rovian politics. Nothing more. This kind of scumball tactic makes it hard for me to vote for republicans.
politics.newsvine, thanks for the factcheck.org link! The truth is always a better alternative than deliberate distortions or outright lies. I wish those slandered in this matter would resort to litigation, maybe then the truth would be more transparent and less obscured with stable droppings.
And to Todd, whose quote read: "how many beheadings, bombings, suicide bombings, stonings, hangings, and terrorist attacks have Christians done?", I would retort by asking how many "Christian" nations have been completely messed up by years of interference in their countries by "Islamic" nations?
This is what we always do, we meddle in other countries' affairs and get a hand picked puppet dictator so that one of our multi-national corporations can obtain access to raw materials or cheap labor without worrying how that dictator will treat the people, then act all surprised in 20-30 years when these countries don't like us. Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, Venezuela, the problems these countries pose today were of our making anywhere from 30-70 years ago.
First, I am so happy that he (if this is true because some of your statements are not factual) ignored the National Day of Prayer and said we are not a Christian nation. We are not a Christian Nation as defined by our founding fathers and as defined by our governmental structure...so this is a good thing. Seperation of Church and State.
But what if he were Muslim? Who cares? Is that a big deal? I mean did Christians preemtively attack Iraq? Or did the U.S. government?
Kamirah,
There is a difference between islolated Christian acts of terrorism and Islamic acts of terrorism that occur regularly. Apples and Oranges.
Yeah, and they wonder why the American people are confused about his religion!!! He distances himself from Christianity every chance he gets. He speaks in glowing terms of his two dads' Muslim beliefs and of the Muslim contribution to culture. He bows deeply before Middle Eastern dignitaries. He gives speeches where he repeated quotes the Koran and ALWAYS refers to it as "the HOLY Koran." He has never referred the Bible as the HOLY Bible. He doesn't attend National Day of Prayer services. The "church" he used to attend embraces Black Liberation Theology which is not a theology so much as it is a political philosophy--MARXIST (which is atheistic). He has yet to attend a church for Sunday services since he moved into the White House!!! (And don't tell me it's because he doesn't want to inconvenience a congregation--every other President was able to do it, but I guess this is the CHANGE we were promised!!) He's buddy-buddy with the Muslims, not because he actually is one, but because the enemy of my enemy is my friend--the common enemy of both Marxists and Muslims being America!! Remember, the Nazis had good relations with the Middle East, too!
I agree with Kamirah. Just because someone is sympathetic to a cause does not make them part of that group. Example: I am sympathetic to the whales that are being killed illegally but I am pretty sure I am not a whale. I am sympathetic to gay rights but I am not gay. I am sympathetic to kids with cancer and I am not a kid nor do I have cancer. I am sympathetic to the Dalai Lama and the fact that he has had to live in exile along with many other Buddhists but I am not a Buddhist. I am sympathetic to abused dogs and cats but I am neither a dog or cat.
Use the brain you were given. Educate yourself and you will find that you are not quite so ignorant and the world is no longer such a narrow place to live.
I love how so many just automatically assumed Fox News told people to think this. Fox News only makes the claim that him sealing the records makes it look like he's hiding something and all he has to do is unseal them. Denouncing Christianity on behalf of the entire country and standing up for Muslims in the mosque controversy while allowing Christian bashing to continue from the left doesn't help either. I guess the choice "The echo chamber: Rightwing pundits and websites keep raising questions about Obama’s religious beliefs." was thrown in there to hide the fact MSNBC is propagating false statements about what the right says/believes?
Hey, Mike, watch faux entertainment much?? (it's showing) Why do you spread these lies?
Mike,
Lots of people are distancing themselves from Christianity because of people like you who give it a bad name. My advice to you is to review the teachings of your savior and learn how to be "Christian" towards other people. Maybe a WWJD bracelet would help you out? As for sympathizing... I think ma8802 summed it up nicely. Maybe if Christians had some sympathy, empathy or hell, even a little tolerance, the world would be a much better place.
I want to reply to Greg who remembers huge groups of Muslims celebrating 9/11. I think his memory has exaggerated the facts. I recall that Iran had one of the largest demonstations ever in their country post 9/11 declaring their solidarity with Americans after the attacks. Unfortunately, our administration managed to destroy that sympathy by the irresponsible invasion of Iraq. Nevertheless, the vast majority of Moslems reacted in sympathy immediately following 9/11.
Larry, I recall footage of Palestinians literally dancing in the streets on 911. I am am confident they were and are not alone in their thinking.
Because my friend....illiberals / demoncrats cannot afford to be wrong, they spend too much money as it is. So they have to label you a racist, hating, war monger to make themselves feel better about how many unborn babies they murder every year. At the end of the day most illiberals are pansies who want to appease everyone except Jews and Christians...those they want to execute and hang from a tree or burn them alive. They are sheep who follow any wolf that will permit them to fulfill the lusts and desires in their heart, can ya say Gay?
The Muslim issue is flamed as often as possible by the right wingers such as Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, etc. They have to try to encourage hate for him because they have no policies to present for their party. If they continue to reach out to the most ignorant among us they believe they can defeat Obama and anyone else who doesn't pander to the rich and Wall Street. This group has yet to present any ideas of how to improve the economy, health care, etc. When the Health Care bill was proposed, suddenly Republicans wanted to do something about the skyrocketing costs. But, for the 8 years the GOP had control they proposed nothing. Not a single thing. But, now they agree something has to be done. They still have nothing to put forward. This is a group filled with so much hate; who want to turn our country back - not a few years but decades. This type of desention is tearing the country apart. We had a useless President in Bush but this crew wants that again. It is truly pathetic.
About the GOP you are right. It's a worthless dung heap and Bush was the worst President ever..but then so are the democrats. You guys don't get it.....they are kissing cousins with the same agenda, to destroy America, it's freedom and it's sovereignty in favor of a new world order and a one world government. You people need to get your head out of your arse and starting thinking clearly and see these people for who they are.
And Muslims? Come on....they are invaders and enemies we cannot trust. Read the freakin Koran and you'll see what they are all about. I love Arabic people but Islam is nothing but a violent, political ideology dedicated to enslaving the world under its oppressive regime. I have Arabic friends but Muslims are my enemies. And while some of us tolerate them to an extent, don't think for one second you devil worshipping, pedophile prophet following thugs that we won't deal with your treachery soon enough when you show your true colors.
I've read the Koran just as I have read the Bible. Neither preach hatred and intolerance. As far as pedophiles are concerned, look at the Catholic church, or do you not believe they are Christian. To me this is all idiocy and really has no importance in solving the most important problem we have, the economy.
Right on Ross- i feel your pain. I believe its a matter of one side or the other labeling you something negative to dismiss your view if it disagrees with what they think.
And as the venom drips from each word, they will tell you how intolerant, hateful, bigotted, idiotic, socialist, communist, fascist, racist, xenophobic, homophobic you are for daring to disagree with them and their point of view.
GL, you are right, it is the economy, and Obama's administration is doing a helluva job destroying that economy. Obama has so much time available to golf or back the victory symbol mosque at ground zero, but no time to apply toward fixing the economy. I don't buy a new Mercedes when all my credit cards are maxed out, so why should Obama triple the deficit when we cannot afford it?
So being sympathetic to Muslims makes one a Muslim?
Does that make people sympathetic to murderers a murderer?
Having the ability to be tolerant and accept a different religion does not mean a person practices that religion.
@DB, you may want to check your history. The Cordoba Mosque was purchased by the Muslims, who had won a war for the territory. Not an uncommon event during the Crusades. The Christians were not so nice, after the next war in which Christendom won back the city, they took the Mosque without reparations to the owners.
So the Muslims purchased the Church and converted it.
The Christians just took the Mosque and converted it.
Dasvet- The Great Recession didn't start on 1/20/09. It was GOP folly that brought us the economic conditions seen here- going all the way back to Reagan. All Obama has shown us is that he does not have a final and definitive solution for this situation, which is unfortunate, but he did not create it.
I suppose W's doubling of the deficit from 5 to 10 trillion dollars was acceptable to you?
You can continue to pretend Bush/Cheney never existed, but those of us that paid attention will always be here to remind you.
Here are some of the reason many think BO is a Muslim---- He was born a Muslim; his father was a Muslim ; his step-father was a Muslim ; he lived in a Muslim country(Indonesia) ; he attended a Muslim school ; under Islamic law if a Muslim leaves the faith other Muslims are required to kill him for doing so and he has traveled to Muslim countries and mingled with many Muslims without any aparent threat indicating they do not think he has left the faith ; his middle name is shared with many Muslims.
Barack Obama continually states he is not Muslim. However, he was born Muslim, practiced the faith with his father and stepfather until the age of 12 years old. Attended Muslim religion classes under his adopted name, Barry Soetoro, while enrolled in a Private Catholic School in Indonesia. Barack Obama's grandparents insisted he practice "Christian" faith upon gaining custody of him at age 12 years.
However, there are two key factors here. (a) His Muslim Faith and foundation were already well ingrained by this time. (b)Although, living under his grandparents influence, Obama didn't convert to "Christian" until his mid 20", when he was becoming politically active. (c) Barack Obama has spent the last 20+ years, in a Muslim influenced/Anti-White Doctrine Preached "Christian" Church in Chicago.
As President, Barack Obama, backs a Muslim Mosque on "Ground Zero" in New York. Barack Obama has poured Billions of Dollars of Taxpayer Dollars into the Muslim communities in Kenya. Barack Obama, after 13+ months in office, has not selected a "Christian" Church in Washington, D.C., for him and his family to attend (although, we are told he prays daily at daylight; a prominent Muslim appointed time for prayer).
It's not the faith itself, I have a problem with. It's the extreme levels of terrorist activities this faiths' members ascribe to. From private cells here in the U.S. attempting suicide bombings; 9/11; Afganistan;Pakistan; Seria; Iran; several African nations supporting terrorist groups; the threat to the American Nation is real. Now, compound this threat with the extreme deceit President Obama has gone through to hide his true allegiance.
It is my opinion, Barack Obama was politically motivated at a young man. As such, he was smart enough to realize his true faith would hurt his political career. I have no doubt President Obama has attended "Christian" Churches. However, I, also, have no doubt much of this attendance was politically motivated. The fact that his family attended such a "Muslim" sympathetic/anti-white doctrine preached church in Chicago for the last 20 years lends credence to these facts.
As a "Christian", Barack Obama "talks the talk"; he just isn't "walking the walk." If Barack Obama will fabricate his allegience to something so personal as his faith; how can we, as American's, entrust our lives and future to a President with such obvious hidden agenda's?
It's remarkable the number of comments made that don't hold water. It seems to have gone unnoticed how much Obama has accomplished in his calm, deliberate way. Hillary and John McCain certainly found out he's a force to be reckoned with; Obama came from behind against both.
Then, he was handed a full plate with 2 wars and an economy in free fall. Yet Obama has taken care of his campaign promise: Passing any health care plan has been elusive for years; changes will be needed down the road - but Obama got it done. So quietly showing respect for differing views and religions doesn't take anything from Obama, but may allow those with opposing views to feel comfortable about coming to the table. Why? Because they like him those who question Obama's citizenship look childishly uninformed and will be dismissed as such.
In addition those who cite the civil unrest/violence in middle eastern countries as indicative of widespread Muslim terrorism are overlooking the fact that we are a country of laws. We recognize that at times there are law enforcers who sometimes don't follow the laws; we hope they are caught and punished. But in many countries the police are either so corrupt or ineffective that there is much more street violence than we have in the U.S. There are times when it seems to this writer like it would be a good thing if Muslims drank alcohol; the young Turks could go down to the corner pub and let off steam like college kids; instead they throw stones (readily available with the scarcity of grass). So perhaps Obama will get the boys from the Mid East together and things will calm down. Let's hope so. Obama certainly wasn't saying he was a Muslim when he spoke in favor of building a mosque; his statement should have been taken as a reminder of our First Amendment rights. If the Muslims lose that right, who's next?
If we tear up the Constitution for the whiners now, this nation will be on a slippery slope. Mayor Bloomberg understands this but there are obviously plenty who do not.
kamirah: I am both an animal rights activist and a dog at the same time, so what is your point?
ThereseinNV: Good post. I totally agree with you on all points, especially those concerning his political ambitions and how he used Wright's popular church as a critical stepping stone in such a cold and calculated manner. What has he ever done for Chicago? I've asked this question again and again but never get a credible response. Usually, I get no response at all. Thanks for the post. I know that there are many others who agree with us.
Wisconsin voter- well said. The delusions I'm reading from some of these posts is so astonishing that I can't believe they come from people who actually live in America. Back when Nixon made his unprecedented trip to China, I don't remember any fuss about labeling him a communist. Perhaps America was a bit more educated and open-minded back then.
I'm just counting down how it will take before someone claims that he attended a radical "madrassa" (debunked eons ago). I also notice that after these wild claims are made, the writer then qualifies it with "I'm sure", or "in my opinion". Here's their math: A=B, and B= something that resembles C, therefore A must = C.
After the last Disaster in Chief, I'm glad Obama doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve. There are more important tasks at hand than soothing a few people's religious insecurites.
MBrown49 -- Perhaps America is able to make obvious distinctions between the situations. Nixon was not born a Communist ; his father was not a Communist ; he did not have a step-father that was a Communist ; Nixon was not schooled in Communism ; Nixon had fought against Communist while serving in Congress and was famous for it. Nixon's connection to Communism was tenuous and ephemeral and highlighted by his strident opposition to it. As you can see by the facts, your comparison is inapposite in the extreme.
Religion and politics never mix. Comparing Communism ( the very antithesis of religion ) with Islam merely shows you do not understand the difference. To whom and by whom a child is raised is not the choice of the child. The man irrefutably Chose to worship in a Christian church! You and the others who maintain this idiotic and unsubstantiated charge, really just have a terrible problem with the first black President! Stop hiding behind this and other vague, heresay charges and say what you Really think! The Richard Nixon comparison is beyond the pale! For obstructing justice, suborjning perjury, and facing certain impeachment conviction ( see Barry Goldwater advice to Nixon ), he RESIGNED in disgrace, and admitted he would have condemned any Democrat who would have gone to China! History! Read! Learn!
It is pretty straightforward.
The Right Wing of this country has simply lost it's collective mind (and I use the term loosely).
Douglas, why attack me? I didn't make the allusion to Nixon, MBrown did and I merely pointed out how absurd it was. You are correct by whom a child is raised is not the choice of the child but so what? By whom a child is raised virtually always has an impact on the way the child turns out. Don't you agree? As to your complaint that I somehow " maintain this idiotic and unsubstantiated change", I say what are you talking about. The article asks why so many people believe Obama is a Muslim. I merely set out facts that may lead many to that conclusion. I did not opine as to whether he is or is not. Then you impute to me a terrible problem with Obama because he is the first black President with no evidence of this whatsoever -- just made up out of whole cloth by you. In my humble opinion it is you that needs to read closely and learn to make distinctions be they subtle or obvious..
Gary,
Your assertion is absurd. You claim he was "born" a muslim. He was born in Hawaii and could become whatever he wanted to be- just like you, just like me. Where was the sign saying "I'm a muslim" when he was born?
In the case of Nixon, who cares whether he was was raised christian, catholic, jewish, or whatever, in TODAY's sick mindset that this Country has immersed into, his travel to Red China would be considered an affront to the "good, protestant, morals of the US", not a gesture of good will as was its original intent.
The point is that I'm comparing events in history and comparing the psychological conditions of Americans then, and Americans now. Over 30+ years, I would say it's extremely sick today in comparisons to 30-40 years ago. It's almost as if these people are hoping he is a muslim just in hopes of having an end to justify their means.
And for the record, I'm not really sure who Douglas was attacking.
MBrown -- I say he was a Muslim at birth because under Islamic law , i.e., Sharia law, if your father is a Muslim then you are a Muslim when born. Your argument is with Islam, not me. Keep me posted on how your rebuke of Islam is received by the Muslim community.
It all feeds into the right wing echo chamber. They will do and say anything that fits their agenda. They are not in power now, so this is one of the tools and tactics they will use to further the agenda. Plain and simple. I'm independent. Both sides lie to push their agenda's.
msnbc and the left are doing every thing they can to divide America.
they play the race card every chance they get and now they are trying to divide us with some sort of religious angle.
i could care less if obama is Muslim
msnbc and the left are doing every thing they can to divide America.
You blame the lies about President Obama on "msnbc and the left?" Or are the lies just fine with you, and it's pointing them out that you think is divisive? Either way, your biases speak volumes about your own integrity.
The right wing has an awesome underground propaganda machine. 40% of the country still believes that Iraq was behind the 911 attack despite Prez Bush, the CIA and the 911 Commission clearly stating that Iraq was NOT behind the attack on 911.
I get daily emails from right wingers who do calculated alterations to legit docs to inflame their base.
The strategy is straight out of the German pre-WWII propaganda machine that conned millions of conservative Catholics and Lutherans into hating Jews, liberals, blacks and socialists. The end result was one of the greatest atrocities experienced in the course of history.
I agree 'name less', it should not matter if he's a Muslim or not, but why doesn't he come out and admit it once and for all, so we can move on! There is obviously confusion over this matter ever since he took office..... but nothing was done and here we are 18 months later still discussing it! What a joke!
I wonder if the birth certificate controversy is somehow linked to this problem?
Has there ever been another President or World Leader that has allowed these two controversies to fester like this?
Why doesn't he come out and admit what? That he is a christian?? He has. Stop watching faux entertainment...(it's not news)
miked - You didn't really bring up the idiotic birth certificate issue again, did you? Hawaii has verified his birth so many times that they are now refusing to respond to the ridiculous inquiries any more. Move on. Obama is president; he was born in Hawaii; he is Christian; and, let's get to the real issue - he is black. Get over it!
I just watched an interview with Obama he doesn't deny he is Muslim. He danced around the question. He also said he doesn't need to walk around with his birth certificate on his head. No one asked for that.
Birthers & Wingnuts-
During the 2004 Vice Presidential debate, VP Dick Cheney suggested that we all go to Factcheck.org to verify that what he was saying was fact.
Go there. They have examined Obama's birth certificate. They have verified that it is true, accurate, and official--that he is, by birth, an American citizen. They have posted photographs.
There. I have done your work for you. There is no excuse for your continued ignorance or half-baked conspiracy theories. If it's good enough for Cheney, it should be good enough for you.
w.goin- again with the race card - i don't care if he's black - i don't care if he's muslim and i don't care if he's christian
i care about job creation, the economy and border security.
all this black and white , muslim and christian non sense is good for nothing.
keep you're eye on the ball America
Why is it he said we are not a Christian nation in one speech but in another to Arabs we are one of the great Muslim nations?
How about providing a link and quotes for those speeches, Auto. And the full quotes, not just the sound bites that "prove" your claim.
read his book... he tells you who he would side with the winds of change
Good advice. But only if you read the WHOLE book, not just carefully culled snippets out of context.
market-economist - are you a liar or just another misinformed moron?
"...if the winds of politics change, I will stand on the side of the muslims." - Barak Obama - The Audacity of Hope
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_obama_write_that_he_would_stand.html
but you only get carefully edited snippets on fox, what's a guy to do?
read his book... he tells you who he would side with the winds of change
y'know, this nonsense is waaaaayyy out of control. The following is the *actual* paragraph from the book. Take this as a lesson: not everything you receive via email is either factual or well-intentioned.
Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]: Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
"I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
Now that's what *I* call Presidential! Beautifully stated, Mister Prez! ..and I believe you intend to be true to your words.
Thank you much for the correct quote, Rorschach!
Makes a great illustration of exactly how the right-wing noise machine snips, clips, and just makes it up to suit their purpose, doesn't it?
What a study in contrast.
The book, paraphrased: If the shifting "political winds" bring injustice to anyone, I'll back them up.
The right-wing noise machine's translation of same: He's a Muslim.
There's something rather un-American about the flag-waving self-appointed "patriots" who are responsible for this crap.
You left out "Because some people are stupid" as a choice.
Stupid is not knowing you know nothing.
People with 75 IQ's are stupid too, no choice is going to change that. Research the IQ difference between democrats and republicans. Do the same research on those who believe in a religious dogma and those who don't. Do the same research on average IQ on blue states vs red states.
IQ as a test for intelligence must be flawed...
Stupid is making bad choices again and again because manipulators tell you to.
According to liberals, stupid is not being a liberal!
According to conservatives, stupid is thinking for oneself, and not just believing what you're told.
Dave, people who make the claim that Obama's a muslim are conservatives. Some of the people making that claim don't really believe it; they're just making the claim to try to convince the ignorant to vote for republicans. The subset of conservatives who are influenced by these claims are truly stupid. The ones making the claims, knowing they are false, are merely liars. The majority of conservatives niether believe these claim nor repeat them and are, therefore, off the hook.
Could someone define "liberal" and "conservative". It seems to me that Bush was called a liberal.
@spider-737231: Conservatives that've provided me with compelling evidence and convincing, well-reasoned arguments have swayed my mind on several issues; partial-birth abortion, gun control and the death penalty, to name a few.
There's merit to listening to those who differ from you, provided those who differ can knowingly and intelligently state their viewpoints.
Perhaps, in part, because in accordance with Muslim tradition, he was born a Muslim and has a Muslim name
"born a Muslim"? Why - because his father was a non-practicing Muslim?
It's not genetic, ok?
Maybe you're not old enough to remember the stink about JFK - the first Roman Catholic elected to POTUS? And at least he actually WAS Catholic, as if it made a difference..
Thank you, Rorshcach! Religion is a CHOICE! It isn't a biological imperative like race or sex. You can't be "born a Muslim." Jesus Christ, people. THINK before you type.
Umm, if his father was a practicing Muslim MAYBE you could argue that. But, Muslims actually believe ALL babies are born Muslim and its only the corruption of man that takes them away and makes the Christian/Jew/Pagan.
His father was an Atheist Apostate. Punishable by death in most Islamic countries. So, by that argument, Obama is not Muslim, he's and atheist. Of course, it doesn't matter, he was baptized a Christian....so whatever he was before is really meaningless.
His baptism makes him A.) Christian B.) Kuffar (infidel) and C.) the same as every other adult convert regardless of past belief.
It is must more courageous to be a convert and be saved in your adult life than to just parrot what your parents taught you without questioning it.
Obama was born a Christian, had a Christian mother, raised by Christian grandparents, and had a Muslim father who deserted the family when he was an infant. Why....are so many Americans soooo stupid?
Valnada, As the article you just commented on stated, his mother was an Atheist.
He converted to be a Christian at the age of 20.
It would be my guess is he realized at the age of 20 he wanted to be a politician, and decided he couldn't do that as an Atheist. Which is fine, that's his prerogative.
Rorschach, perhaps you do not understand the term "tradition". I fully understand "traditions" are not genetic. I am old enough to remember the election of JFK. Incidentally, Catholics are not born "Catholic" they are baptized into the faith.
Mol in Ms., you apparently missed the "tradition" part. Was the second to last phrase, puncuated with a period although it is not a sentence, intended to be a pun?
Valndad, it's not possible to "born a Christian". Biblical Christianity teaches that we are all born into sin. Confession or sin, repentance, and turning to Christ/being born again are what makes a person a Christian.
Rorschach, perhaps you do not understand the term "tradition".
Nola, I'm quite familiar with "tradition" -- including some unfortunate traditions, passed down through a few American generations, that cast people who, let's say, "look different" into second-class status.
And I think you reach your own conclusions by choice. It's a shame.
historically speaking, Americans have always feared non-Protestants. When Al Smith (Catholic) ran for President, pundits of his time believed he would help the Pope dig a tunnel to flood America with Catholics. Joe Lieberman was VP candidate in 2000, many people feared his Jewishness. And now people fear Muslims, even though they've been in the US for over 300 years (some were even slaves) and have been largely peaceful (especially compared to Molly Maguires, Army of God, the Jewish Defense League, KKK, White Citizens' League, etc.).
I wonder why they feared them? It couldn't be because they came here to escape from being killed and persecuted by those who were not protestant could it? Muslims would never kill anyone would they? They wouldn't cut off the sex organs of female children would they? They wouldn't bomb bus loads of little children or have sucide attacks on the world trade centers full of ordinary citizens would they? Would muslims kill their own daughters because they dated someone non muslim or because they rode in a car with their heads not covered. Muslims would never have arranged marriages with female children without letting the child choose their own husband would they? Would they kill or beat their wives for not having their heads covered or driving a car? Muslims would not throw homosexuals off the tops of buildings would they or kill another person for merely not being muslim? Go date a muslim's daughter without becoming a muslim and see where it gets you. Go live under Sharia law and see how long you live.
Ray T,
It is true "some" Muslims may have done that, but the religion itself has not. There were many Christians who had slaves which they raped and killed in this country. It's important to remember that in the US we do not live under religious law at all. While I may prefer living under democratic rule as opposed to religious rule, I do not persecute others who wish to practice their faith within the confines of the democratic rule we have.
A lot of muslims are still doing that. Just read the news.
Oh Ray! Please tell me you don't completely rely on the news to make sense of a world with almost 7 billion people. Even if the news media never outright lied (they do), at best they certainly cherry pick what to publish, and outrageous stories such as the ones you mention sell. There are BILLIONS of muslims, if they all acted like you stereotype them, they'd all be headless by now.
He effectively never did answer Brian Williams question about being a muslim in his interview in New Orleans on August 29. He danced around but never clearly stated a direct answer. Wonder why? All he has to do is make his birth certificate public or state "I am not a muslim". What is his reluctance to do so to put a final end to the question?
Perhaps because to do so would put an end to the carping about both "issues"... quotation marks are real on that one. As soon as someone mentions the birth certificate, they write themselves off as foolish. Why put an end to that?
The correct answer would be, "who cares?"
I would suspect he realizes that capitulating to the demands of the birthers empowers the opinion as legitimate: were I in his shoes, I wouldn't budge an inch on the issue, either.
Here's what I find most amusing: during the election cycle the public outcry was directed towards the President's many years spent in the pews before Jeremiah Wright. How quick the nay-sayers are to forget that only two years past the biggest issue about Obama's faith was his membership in a church with an inflammatory, conspiracy-possessed pastor - yet here we are with almost forty percent of the country flat-out believing he's a Muslim.
Is our collective ADD that pervasive?
Perhaps because he is smarter that the rightwing nuts, He knows they are self-destructive and He is allowing them to do exactly that...
Harleytype
Wow. That's all I need to say. There are SEVERAL copies of his birth certificate circulating in the news and on the internet. You people didn't believe it was real.
He's said several times in public to reporters that he is a Christian.
Admit it, you don't want to believe what you don't want to believe. Plain and simple.
He has, stop watching Fox News - you are becoming less intelligent!
If America was ture to being a free nation...IT WOULDN'T MATTER WHAT RELIGION HE IS! But...hey...we all know how that goes. No matter how evolved humans would like to think we are....we are still all animals.
It would if some of the others you mentioned were trying to kill or destroy all the rest. Remember if there is no god there is only survival of the fittest left. You did say we are all just animals. If you truly believe that then survive if you can and quit whining about power struggles.
I think you are mis-interpreting Darwin's theory on evolution; in reality he said the most adaptable to change survives, not the "strongest." That assumption is drawn from so-called "Social Darwinists" who believed that White Christians were "more evolved" than others, especially non-whites and non-Christians. As for "Intelligent design" there are many things wrong with the way the human body works - eating and breathing through the same hole? A guarantee that a percentage will choke to death because of flaws in the "design" - which seem to indict an assumption of divine intervention.
And what about how your brain works? There couldn't be anything wrong with it could there? You sound like the woman that thought polar bears were cute and cuddly so she entered a cage at the zoo to be hugged by them. Can you guess the outcome of that scenario? You don't seem to be able to learn by common sense and from past experiences so why are you still here? All you have to do is look at nature if your truly a believer in evolution. Most species and animals survive by being stronger and more powerful than the others. The ones that don't hide in holes and quiver totally in fear when exposed to the enviornment. No one can tell me that left on their own the strongest most cunning and most agressive would not survive. But then again I don't believe in evolution but in God as creater of all things. It is God that has protected you. You just can't see it or just don't want to admit it.
I don't want a President that would practice Islam as it allows Slavery and 12 million people are held as Slaves in the world by Muslims.
So yes, a Muslim President is unacceptable until Islam renounces Slavery and throws all their people holding Slaves into Prisons.
Mohammed was the first to free a slave. But since no one actually reads the Koran they would not know that.
This push to spread fear, hate, has gone hand in hand with the uglier side of the tea party movement and other conservative resurgences following the election of Barack Obama to the white house. From Rev. Frank graham, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck. Remember the neoconservative Republican Party accusing Obama of being a Muslim before he won the election and they're still pushing it...
Watch this Colin Powell short youtube video
Could it be perhaps he dismisses everything that is good about the United States, and just doesn't get what it is the makes the US tick? He is nothing but an intellectual ignorant.
::facepalm::
Ya, that damn Harvard law degree and teaching constitutional law. What an ignorant guy. He knows nothing about "America".
Really? Obama dismisses everything that is good about the nation? Do you think before you type?
Just show the birth certificate and be done with it...we all have had to have proof of birth at one time or another so why doesn't he? He is the President and of all times that should have been the upmost time to of shown his birth certificate.....also when he was running for senate.....mmmmmm
another birther bigot..... if a copy were tatooed on your forhead, you would still not believe it. Did we ever see Bush's birth certificate, or Chaneys or how about the ranting lunitic from Alaska? How about Limburger or Becks?
Barack Obama traveled internationally at a young age so his country of birth has been known for many, many years.
No question about Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh. There's too many questions about this man. cheap chicago politician
He has. Several times. I wish there were a way to vote down comments.
John McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone. Had he won the POTUS, me thinks the right wing nut jobs wouldn't be sayin anything whether that was legal. Had Obama been born in the Canal Zone, well, we can all guess what the right wing wackos would be saying. The hypocrites.
@mrpain: Let's see some credentials and backyard barbeque photos.
mrpain banned, multiple of RDS, Nebraska, also banned. Don't register multiple accounts.
None of the questions to vote for were right. It was set-up to ask stupid questions. It is his actions that make people believe it along with his name and his upbringing.
When some politicians say they trust "American voters will get it right", I say not necessarily so. How ignorant is it of those voters that believe President Obama is Muslim. Where could that possibly come from when in fact there is not one grain of evidence that could lead one to any such conclusion.
Those in the voting public that believe he is Muslim really look to the rest of world as uninformed idiots. It is one thing to disagree with Obama's policies and quite another to portray him incorrectly. The latter may be no more than those right wing conservatives continued efforts to win elections regardless of how they achieve it.
That old saying seems to fit this situation. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck and walks like a duck and has feathers like a duck it is probably a duck . Only one thing if it also has ears like dumbo the elephant there might be some slight doubt of it being a duck.
....so if she weighs the same same as a duck...she's made of wood? And therefore a witch?
Ray I find your inference repulsive. Bigots never say anything intellegent.
Obama's father was Muslim. In the Islamic world, that fact right there makes him a Muslim for life. His mother's atheism doesn't even factor in.
Now, he claims he's a Christian. And by converting to Christianity, is a crime worse than murder in the Islamic world!
So...hmmmmmmmmmm!
It sounds as if you are one of the idiots I am referring to in my post.
Obama father Muslim? = YES!
Islam considers child born to Muslim father a Muslim? = YES!
Muslim converts to Christianity is WORST crime in Islam? = YES!
All you disputers can do is call names? LOL! Grade school Tards you are! There...back atcha! :)
So Zeek...how would you feel about a Jewish chief executive? Another Catholic? Perhaps a Wiccan or Aesir? A Buddhist?
I could care less what religion you are. I'm just stating facts here. My own personal opinion is "whatever."
But young Barry Soreto was given a Muslim upbringing, went to a Muslim school, and did the entire Muslim thing.
His Christian church in Chicago was all about black liberation theology. That is "fringe" "radical" belief.
I just want him to tell the truth about something. ANYTHING!
But unfortunately, all he does is lie. (Which is not a bad thing in the Islamic world, btw.)
Islam considers child born to Muslim father a Muslim? = YES!
And by your twisted logic, Zeek - YOU are also a Muslim.
According to most Muslims everyone is a Muslim at birth–in the sense that each of us takes our first breath with the innate understanding that there is only one God, and that this God is not us.
Obama father Muslim? = YES!
Islam considers child born to Muslim father a Muslim? = YES!
Muslim converts to Christianity is WORST crime in Islam? = YES!
Father was present for Obama's upbringing? = NO!
Obama influences by his absentee father? = NO!
Well we're in America where nobody gives a flying f**k if you convert to Christianity. In fact, most people would prefer it, so all this, "converting to Christianity is a sin" BS is just that...BS! Quit acting like he lived in Iraq and converted to Christianity over there at the age of 20. CRAZIES!
Sounds like you and Franklin Graham went to the same school for "so called religious" idiots.
Um, no Zeek. His father was not a Muslim. He was an atheist and considered an apostate among Muslims. But you are a moron Zeek. If my father believed in the Tooth Ferry, does that automatically make me a member of the Tooth Ferry cult? Use your head for once Zeek.
Looks like a lot of these people on this post use Aljazeera as their primary news source.
Why not just elect an athiest and be done with the questioning of what faith they are?
Oh now it's the murder to shut up his enemies?? How did that work against the Clintons?
Have you rightie retards any germaine ideas to bash this POTUS with? But alas...you tin men need "brains" and I see no abundance of them in todays right wingers!!
Hell to this day the right is bashing Jimmy Cartr......nuff said!!
So he's a courageous and brave man for following his heart and belief in converting to Christianity. He's risked death by beheading to do so, hasn't he? I admire a man who stands up for his beliefs.
On the topic of the President's birth certificate, my father's original birth records were destroyed when the courthouse burned to the ground. His birth certificate was a replacement, too. So what? That doesn't mean he was born in a foreign country. All it means is that the courthouse burned down with all the records and everyone's birth certificate had to be reissued. This happens in America. It means nothing more than buildings burn down and records are sometimes lost.
Dan R, on the issue of an atheist being elected President, if he or she won the vote, why not? There is no Constitutional rule that a President has to have faith.
Do you believe this is a requirement?
MrPain says, "Yes maybe at one time Obama thought he was a christian this way he could be the woman in his relationship with the gay muslim roomate he married, when he was in college. Obama was a bottom player then and still is. Many have died telling about Obama's prior gay life and about his birth, the passport he used into Pakistan saying very clear Obama is a muslim. All these people are now shot dead."
THAT IS NUTTY F**KING CRACKERS!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have any idea what you're saying??? Please, enlighten us about all these people who have died talking about Obama's past life as homosexual??? HAHAHAHA Were his old college buddies killed, and nobody has spoken up? You should try entering into reality. It's nice here.
Obama says he can't walk around with his birth certificate plastered to his head! LOL!
But the other side of the coin is the truth. He has yet to even show it!
Give it a rest, Zeek...he has produced the exact same birth certificate form as anyone else who was born in Hawaii, so stop promoting this absolute nonsense. But then, you would rather not be confused with facts, right?
I can show mine in as little as 15 minutes, once I dig it out of the "important box!"
I care about my birth certificate! So does my family!
Who cares that you do not care?
Zeek-1382462,
You obviously are not a fan of the President perhaps because you disagree and or do not like his policies. Its OK, because that is what out Nation is all about, the right to dissent. When you attack a person by using misleading information to show that opposition is entirely different.
The President's birth certificate is on record in Hawaii and has been legitimately verified over and over again. In regard to his religion he is Christian and that is a fact. Your argument that he is Muslim doesn't stand up to anything other than an obvious right winger not happy with the Democrats. Get over it and stick to facts
Zeek, I honestly give more of a @!$%# about the problems and policies confronting the country: whether the President decides to cow-tow and show his birth certificate is not high on my list of priorities - nor should it be for any real American.
Yes, Obama alone managed to fool the entire government who you know would have checked on that years ago. Give the people who help keep you safe (FBI, CIA to name a few) a bit more credit in that they understand how to do a background check.
@ Zeek
....and does your family visit you at the "home" ?
I suspect Zeek's a lot more concerned about the President's appearance than he is with facts. Zeek just lacks the stones to admit what he really thinks.
I can show mine in as little as 15 minutes, once I dig it out of the "important box!"
Really, Zeek?
You have the ORIGINAL in your possession? Not a copy? Until you show me the ORIGINAL, and NOT a copy, I am going to assume that you are NOT an American citizen and seek your immediate deportation - to whatever planet you're from.
Zeek - The President has a passport, and to have this you must show your place of birth. That shows his place of birth as Hawaii. That is the USA.
Also - The birth certificate has been on the internet for a long time now, and looks just like my birth certificate. I have a passport, I went to college, and travel. Does that make me a muslim? My father was born in Salt Lake City to a Mormon mother and a Protestant father. He is not a Mormon - never was. Am I a Mormon? No - never have been.
Why on earth are you still in denial about this? What possible value does it have? What have you accomplished by refusing to accept clear facts?
Your logic (or lack therof) is completely flawed. GET REAL, and GET AN EDUCATION! You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
Oh I'm sure Hawaii just HAPPENED to make a fake birth certificate 40-something years ago JUST in case this particular citizen just HAPPENED to become president. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!! Do y'all even realize how utterly ridiculously this sh!t sounds????? Seriously.
It was good enough to get a US Passport.
But regardless, there's more true copies of the thing. The hospital where he was born had pumped out copies of the thing for months until they decided they couldn't keep up with demand and stopped.
Go find one of the several copies and go away.
Zeek, I really am not trying to insult you but how old are you? The way you type and your comments and answers lead me to believe are an extremely uneducated and immature juvenile. You really need to spend more time paying attention in school and learn how to use some logic.
Obama could walk around with his birth certificate on his head and wouldn't be any more in the dark than he already is.
It is bothersome that Obama does not show his long form birth certificate or any of his school records. What is he hiding? We saw prior presidents records including GWs national guard and college records. Obama seems to have come to being via spontaneous generation. As long as he hides his background there will always be people questioning his intentions.
What is extremely interesting is how Obama himself perpetuates the conspiracy. He threw gas on the fire in this interview. Why?
George W Bush plotted September 11th.
George H W Bush plotted the Kennedy assisnations.
I think I'm missing something. Obama's birth certificate has been verified several times. When was it not shown? No other president has had to prove where he was born. That speaks volumes to me. I wonder if it has something to do with the color of his skin?
When you are looking for ANY reason to criticize someone, then silly reasons like "he's a Muslim" get thrown around. Remember when JFK was running for president? He was vilified as a Catholic who would report to the pope for direction. What we are hearing now is as stupid and hateful as that was back then. I don't know what else Obama could do to sway people that believe this nonsense. People will believe what they want to believe, and don't try to confuse them with facts.
Or he could be just that a Muslim. You don,t know for sure . He's hiding something.
drp - does drp stand for "drip"?
"....or he could be an alien from mars who snuck in by snow sled from the arctic? a duck from the Bahamas? a sorcerer from Oz? an ancient whaler from Jupiter? an illegal Mexican who ate lots of vitamins to get tall?..."
Your ridiculous conjecture is a waste of space. You clearly dn't have enough to do with your time!
With a name like dorky I am not sure I would run around making fun of other people’s names.
Anyway, drp has a really good point. At a minimum we know he sympathizes with Muslims. He also holds very different views from most Americans e.g. wanting the victory mosque at ground zero.
B-e-n - read my name again. You must have missed the actual spelling......You have mixed me up with another poster on this thread.
Rorschach has it right. I am definitely not part of "we".
Who really gives a damn!!!! We have people in this country that are losing their jobs and their homes. We have people that are homeless and starving and all some people can worry about is what religion the president is????? Really!!!!!!!
People are not losing their jobs and houses because of Obama!!!!! The economy was in the gutter far before Obama (good try though) came to office. People, this is the worst world economic crisis of our lifetime, so stop watching Fox News and think for yourself! Irresponsible corporate risk taking, a long with poor consumer choices causes people to lose their homes. When are Americans going to take responsibility for their actions. Pathetic.
Right after we retroactively tar-and-feather everyone from the previous administration for lying to the public, wiretapping the country and suspending civil freedoms, Floyd.
Exodite...can you really 'ignor' the role Dems played in the economic crisis. No one is saying President Bush was part of the problem! I'm a fiscal conserative who believes in small government; a balanced budget, ect. President Bush did not live up to those principles. At the same time, the Dem controlled congress also shares blame for this mess. You can't ignor the role of Frank & Dodd regarding Freddie & Fannie and the impact that had on the economy. Just trying to be objective. Both parties have a role in the crisis.
@NJ John: Don't be so presumptious. If you think I'm among any number that isn't willing to place blame squarely where blame belongs, you've got another thing coming.
To the contrary, I take issue with establishment politics as a whole and will tear into any so-called "leader" that pulls a stupid move. Case in point - while I will defend the President's integrity regarding his birth certificate and faith, I will not give him a pass on things I don't agree with, such as the healthcare law and, closer to home, banning flavored cigarettes.
Frankly, however, I don't get how you would manage to connect my support of the President over the birther rancor to the unconditional support of any public policy and action put forth by the Democrats. That's a real non-sequitor, John.
The thing that you and I and everyone else needs to get away from in this country is the idea that opinions aren't nuanced, personal things; they should not fall only within party lines.
NY John - The Democrats did not control Congress during most of the past 22 years.
7 years Democratic majority-Senate, 15 years Republican majority-Senate.
In the House - the Democrats had the majority 1991-93. After that, the GOP had the majority for 18 (EIGHTEEN) years. The Dems got it back in 2006, with the economy already starting its decline.
So - if you want to lay the mistakes at the door of Congress - in both chambers - the Republicans have dominated during the past 22 years.
http://clerk.house.gov/art_history/house_history/partyDiv.html
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/history/one_item_and_teasers/partydiv.htm
Look it up if you doubt my numbers. You really need to do homework before claiming something false. If the Control of Congress is your concern, then the Republicans surely made the mess we have today. The recession started in Q1 2007.
Once Clinton left office, Bush gave away the surplus, started two wars without funding them, and let the country fall off a cliff. Bush and the GOP Congress for more than 18 years had every opportunity to lay the groundwork for a stable country. They didn't, and the Democrats gained the majority in 2007 - with a recession already starting. So here we are.
FACTS. An essential part of understanding WHO did what.
There are a bunch of irrational people on this site. They don't seem to be able to recognize that the congress both senate and house caused the crisis that ruined our economy and then tried to fix the problem by spending even more money they didn't have. Congress is the only body that can pass a budget and spend money the executive branch can only recommend a budget and spending policy. Congress did it and deserves the blame. The congress has been mainly Democrat for fifty years with few exceptions. The congress mainly democrats and some liberal republicans did the damage and failed to oversee the spending. For all of you democrats here Bush is also the blame for Obama being called a muslim. It's is Bush's fault for sure. Bush claimed to be a Christian so Obama had to be different to comply with his change policy. It was surely Bush's fault.
Well Ray, if it took Democrats 50 years to do, whatever you are saying they did, it only took Bush 8 years to almost totally wreck the train. The last time it was wrecked that badly another Republican was president and the pinheaded Republicans still wanted to stay with their same old policies in the face of ultimate disaster. This Muslim business, along with these mass gatherings of misguided biggots like occurred over the weekend is just another example of the dumbing down of America.
"Think for yourself" seems to be the mantra of the NPR, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann crowd... strange.

And this whole mess is President Obama's? Waaa haaa haaa......whew, hold on. I gotta go empty my bladder.
Look at obama's Cairo speech...the way he goveled and apologized for wayward American behavior, you would think the US had been at war with Islam for 30 years, and HE alone was going to break the cycle of hate...most Americans are willing to give a respectful distance to those who "look different", that's our nature..no, I do not believe Obama is Muslim, nor do I think he was born outside the US, nor do I believe George Bush orchestrated the 9/11 attacks to bolster his "war on terror"...I lump all those "believers" in one nutshell.
G man - Glad to hear you are not buying the disinformation claimed about the President.
I disagree with you comments though regarding him "grovelling". He did not - he did what any good leader would do - admit to the truth about our prior actions, and present us as an honorable country that will have a better stand going forward. Apologizing for making a mess is not a bad thing to do. There isn't enough acknowledgement of our mistakes here. How can we learn from them if we refuse to admit wrong was done?
We have been covertly at war with Islam since the arab-Israeli wars in the 1970's. We have disrespected their democratically elected leaders, and placed troops and bases throughout the Middle East at the request of the state of Israel. We supported Sadaam Hussein and armed him with chemical weapons to fight the Iranians in the 1980's, armed and trained Bin Laden to fight the Russians(some think he is deep CIA), built huge bases in Saudi Arabia, then moved them to Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq, denied medicines and food to Iraq during the 1990's while peppering their landscape with toxic weapons, and let Israel invade Lebanon and drop more bombs that still are exploding today. etc.
GW Bush was different - his war was not covert. Nor well thought out. Several hundred thousand Iraqis are dead from our "presence" since 1990. The rest of the world was wondering if we would continue this. Obama spoke to clarify that the US would fight to preserve our interests, but that it was not a religious or ethnic war.
Denying that is saying the US is no longer the nation we were founded to be.
I don't know for sure if Obama is a Muslim or not. I do not believe he is a Christian as he claimed from attending Rev. Wright's church. No man can claim to be a Christian and act and speak like Rev. Wright. Obama says in the twenty years he attended Wright's church he never heard what Wright preached. This tells me for sure that Obama is neither truthful or Christian. I guess people just choose to label him with what is left.
Again MSNBC words the poll with carefully crafted questions missing the root question, which is "Do you think Obama's actions are the reason".
