You see, Socialism is only an intermediate step on a longer path toward communism. It is unsustainable in that it over-burdens the producers to distribute to the non-producers until the producers tire of the struggle and the ratio of producers to non-producers inverts and the system collapses. Then it becomes "necessary" for the government to take over the ownership and control of industry and private property to keep the society functioning, only now the government has TOTAL CONTROL.

Socialism begins with tempting benefits like health care, expanded monetary entitlements for certain groups and other assorted freebies and handouts that convince the gullible masses that the government machine is benevolent. Then that government system plays the citizenry against itself with the "class struggle" propaganda, convincing the masses that RICH people are conspiring to oppress them, and that giving government supreme power will thereby empower the masses and give them equalizing power over the rich.

However, once control and power is given up to government in exchange for comfort, the government then tightens its grip on the citizens and the people have virtually no say in government affairs. The little participation they are allowed is largely a token gesture. The people are now entirely at the mercy of the government and the tyrants in charge.

Obama is laying the foundation for this path. He is a Marxist. He believes in it, and he doesn't CARE if you don't. They act in small steps decorated with inspiring speeches and confused with conflicting details so you buy into it. In the end, they win. You lose.

What you are describing is a mixture of19th Century idealist Socialism (Pre Marx) and Pol Pot. Agreed that Marx talked about Socialism as an intermediate step, but never as a "Trap" as you describe. Marx talked about the proletariat taking power and ownership of the productive media, while instituting a "proletariat Dictatorship" aimed to eliminate internal and externl opposition.

During the 20th Century all this changed. Communism is referred as the Marxist idea of the Proletariat Dictatorship while Socialism is referred as a democratic process in which by legal means a social democrat party participates on the government.

Social Democrats are not enemies of capitalism per se, but they agree that a few owning everything while the many owning nothing is essentially unfair. They are for fair wages, fair taxing, fair social services, healthcare and education.

The Democratic party and President Obama have some Social Democrat ideas in them, but they are essentialy right of center humanitarian capitalism advocats.

Ahh, I remember my naive college days where I said many of the things you say now.

I thought that the socialists would take more of the ill-gotten wealth from rich people and spread it around to "regular" working people like me. I thought that the "rich" people that would be fleeced were multi-billionaires like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. I was wrong.

It turns out that the middle class working people ALWAYS get stuck with the bulk of government spending. The rich have mechanisms to protect themselves, and the poor get the handouts. I am single without dependents, make under $100K/yr and the gov takes nearly 30% of my earnings. That's unfair. This while nearly half of Americans pay no income tax at all. This is what kills the middle class, not capitalism.

I have seen, first hand, working in the manufacturing industry, that supply-side economics works. When government cuts regulatory red tape and lowers taxes and the cost of doing business, money flows for expansion, retooling, modernizing and production increases. The wealth IS spread around. Local vendors, machine shops, trucking companies, contractors and additional employees all benefit. These are good paying jobs with benefits. Government revenue increases from the stimulative effect of lower taxes. John Kennedy knew it, Ronald Reagan knew it. We still know it. Many ignore it.

Increasing government power for your idea of "fairness" is a very dangerous thing. I've often heard Your kind of arguments that socialism, "if executed properly", would fix the problems of society. It will not. It will break our bank, It will encourage the worst behavior and punish the best. It limits opportunities and incentives. It is only an exchange of benefits for tyranny.

Ask yourself why, if our system is so bad and needs to be changed, do people come here from all over the world for opportunity. The opportunity to be a business OWNER. She got right back up and was smiling then and directly after. Having had a concussion and having seen plenty during sports, that's not the way it works. Apparently she saw fit to lie to the doctors about her symptoms as well, given the diagnosis without any real impact to her head. What a fine upstanding religious person she is.

Say we could quantify the amount of work a person does and we could assign some sort of monetary value for it. Do you really think that a CEO of a multinational corporation is doing work that is worth millions more than anybody else? What is it that they are doing that they deserve millions?

I don't turn out to political rallies, but if this country is getting to the state that people have to fear the exercise of their political rights among a group of people who always claim to be defenders of the Constitution, then we have all fallen a long way. I have disagreements with Republicans, Democrats and Teabaggers. But I don't resort to violence to emphasize my point of view. The only honorable thing for Rand Paul to do is to call on witnesses to this violation of civil rights to come forward and be witnesses in the prosecution of this individual. That is the only way for Rand Paul to separate himself from this criminal act.

We've lived beyond our means both collectively as a people & as a government. And not very long ago, our savings rate was in the negative range. Government can't just "magically" whip up jobs; only the private sector can-that's any LONG -LASTING, PERMANENT ONES.

At a time when we have "dumbed-down" our schools, we've "ramped" up our higher education schools. Fully 1/3 of freshman entering 4 yr. colleges have to take remedial courses to matriculate. And the "education as panacea" now is a joke. All it will get you is more debt that you CAN NOT walk away from. In 2009, fully 80% of students graduating from 4-yr. colleges did NOT have a job lined up.

The answer? I don't know; I wish I did. But I do know that we need to take care of our families & selves first & live within our collective & personal means first.

I have not seen the nation this divided in several administrations. He calls the right the party of 'no' when he refuses to work in a bipartisan manner with anyone who does not agree with him.
