Estimates have spending for this campaign at $4 billion when all is said and done. If your answer to items in #2 is 'Yes', then vote for continued one party rule of the Democrat Party. Otherwise, vote for those Republican candidates that oppose the above.

That one hasn't passed the House, and the vote that failed was a cloture vote, not a vote for passage. Even if it had passed the cloture vote, it would have been late November before it hit POTUSs desk, no matter what, since the House had already adjourned before the Senate even took it up. And this doesn't even address the fact that the bill itself would have only applied to some deferrments, but not others, and would have ONLY offered a tax holiday for jobs created IF the employer could prove a job had been lost overseas. Look up S.3816 and H.R. 5622 at the House and Senate websites. It's all there.

In other cases, the Republicans have filibustered bills because they WEREN'T PAID FOR. Didn't this Congress pass PAYGO? Are you REALLY that pissed at Republicans for attempting to hold Democrats to their OWN legislation? And in other cases, Reid attached "poison pills" - unrelated, unpopular legislation - to the bills, trying to force Republicans to vote for something they oppose so Reid and his gang of stooges could yell about how Republicans don't support job creation.

And you're falling for ALL of it. Do more research before you just accept what the media tells you - they frequently only give a fraction of the story. All legislation can be found on the House and Senate websites - and that's really the ONLY reliable source.

Toasty, you are wrong, no one is trying take away those amendments, just amend them so can not be taken advantage of by illegal immigrants. The 14th amendment was done at a time when slavery came to an end and congress wanted to give everyone citizenship that lived here and was born here, even if their parents were slaves. They were also trying to expand the population of the US. This country is plenty big enough now and it was never meant to give illegals a foothold into this country. But if you dont want to change that, fine, do this. Give the parents an option, go back to your country of citizenship, they can take or leave the kids, who will be given citizenship upon release of parental rights. This amendment in no way gives citizenship the the parents of the children, and if they are illegal, they need to be deported.

The democrats attacking the republicans for doing something they do as well is a blatant example of how stupid they consider people are. They would make these accusations figuring some will rush to the polls and vote for them without any rational thought.

Anyway, this is consistent with the progressive’s opinion of the people which is they are too stupid to manage their own lives/affairs so a government populated with the “anointed ones” will be needed to take care of them.

I believe ALL politicians should be allowed a specific amount of money for their campaigns. The campaigns would be paid for by tax payer money which would allow anybody to run for President, not just the rich. There would be a specific number of televised debates to answer the PEOPLES questions. Campaign television ads would be outlawed. Why give them a chance to make stuff up? I would have an ethics committee to address any claims against any candidate. If they broke the law like "forget to pay taxes", then they get removed from the ticket. I would have all candidates sign an employment contract that holds them to their promises during the debates. If they don't do as they say and say as they do, then they're fired. No different then any other job that has specific job duties.

As was previously noted, the Dems have been doing this for years. George Soros, among others, has laundered millions of dollars through layers of such groups like Moveon.org and the Center for American Progress.

This Jon Soltz, the so-called "chairman" of VoteVets, who said that there is "no comparing" his group's efforts to those of Rove's and that "The vast majority of our donations come online to help our mission of supporting those who support us, however we can," is just another example of Leftist dishonesty.

This group is in no way, shape, or form, a VETERANS group. Yhey just use Soltz and a few other veterans, some with DISHONORABLE discharges, as fronts for the organization.

The TRUTH is that the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission DID NOT "allow" corporations to make unlimited donations to support candidates. In fact there NEVER WERE any Federal laws limiting such donations.

All the SCOTUS did was strike down a section of the McCain–Feingold Act that banned "electioneering communication" within 30 days of a presidential primary and 60 days of a general election.

In fact, that portion of the law had already been weakened by a prior Court ruling which held that only those communications that advocated directly for or against CANDIDATES would be banned during that time period and that communications for or against ISSUES would be allowed.

What the Court DID overturn was a prior SCOTUS decision which upheld a lower court ruling in the case of Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

There, the SCOTUS had previously decided that the Michigan Campaign Finance Act did not violate the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

The Michigan law said that corporations were PROHIBITED from using money from their GENERAL TREASURIES to pay for political ads and that they would have to set up SEPARATE funds to do so. Individuals could then donate to those separate funds.

The problem was that the law gave an EXCEPTION to MEDIA corporations. The Court ruled that laws could NOT prevent SOME corporations from using money from their general funds for political ads while ALLOWING OTHER corporations, like television, radio, newspapers, etc, to do so.

It had to be all or none and the SCOTUS ruled in favor of MORE political discourse rather than LESS.

What I don't agree with in the two posts I read was, that its clear the GOP objective from the start has been to have Obama fail and become a one term president. This goal is at the expense of the country. The main device of this has been obstruction, and from recent comments from Boehner and McConnell it will continue despite polls clearly indicating that 76% of Americans want the GOP to compromise and work with the Dems. The poll also said the same for the Dems to work with the GOP.

It's not a surprise that the Dems use the same tactics as the GOP. It's a surprise that MSNBCs headline would reflect it.

You're confused. The tax cut was something he said he would do when he was running for office. He never really did it. Just like every thing else. He said one thing and did the complete opposite. Obama sent a minimal number of National Guard to the Arizona border only because of the national outrage over the Federal Governments failure to secure the borders and Arizona's attempt to do what the Feds won't.

Obama's Jobs Bills? Gimme a break, his jobs bill is to take money from the 53% who pay all the taxes and then turn around and loan it back to them. Further proof that he has absolutely no idea how to run a business.

That might be the ONE time either of those shows are worth watching!

Republicans did not transform Clinton's budget surplus into 11.3 trillion dollars worth of debt. First off, the national debt and the deficit are two different things. Yes, the national debt went up during Bush's time in office. That is certainly true. However, this budget surplus of Clinton's that you refer to was only for that particular budget year. It has NOTHING to do with the national debt.

And as for Bush's bailout of the banks, that's funny but I remember Obama doing the exact same thing for the automotive industry, several banks as well and many other businesses too. Personally I'd have let them sink, but then I'm a realist and not an idealogue.

Cut our taxes? Wait until the "Health Care Reform" kicks in, you don't think all those additional IRS employees are going to work for free do you? And that is just one of the new costs added.

Removing 6000 troops and stopping construction of the border wall, and then replacing them with 1200 troops is not exactly what I would consider progress.

At a current cost of $525,000 per job created in the stimulus packages, they likely shouldn't have happened anyway.

Toasty what good are people on the boarder when they can't shoot. Mexicans are lucky I can't give the orders because every one that tried to come across would be shot dead. Obama has not done one good thing for this country and if you support him or the Democrats you are a brain dead retard.

I agree that elections need to be funded by public funds ( taxpayer funded), with each candidate for an office gets the same amount. I propose that the campaign starts four weeks before an election and ends one week prior to the election. If a candidate recieves contributions the money goes into the general campaig fund and is distributed equally. Term limits, 3 terms for a representative and 2 terms for a senator. If a representative wants to run for the senate he may substitute 1 rep term for 1 senate term. No one would serve more than 12 years thus not recieving retirement benefits for their public service.

These measures would drastically reduce the lobbyists from "buying" an elected official.

It became apparent early on, that Obama's goals were directly opposed to that of the GOP and most of the country, why would you expect them to roll over and say it is OK?? Willowbrook, How can you say Obama shouldn't have been president in the first place? Last time I checked he won the vote. He may have lacked some experience for sure, but the fact that he was helping people in a third world country is not a valid critcism whatsoever. In fact, I would say that kind of experience tends to give people a better overall world view, something that is very important to have in the President of the United States. As far as the Republicans being obstructionists. They have been. It makes political sense and they are reaping the rewards now. Why do I side with this simplified statement? The Republicans have not u forth credible ideas to counter Democrats. Health care was a perfect example. How do you increase competion in an industry that is allowed to price collude without getting rid of the legal price collusion. Tort reform which has happened in some states has done nothing to curb insurance costs.
I did like some of the suggestions that came from one Republican Senator during the health care discussion... I may lean left, but honestly, I just haven't heard good ideas coming from the right. I know we will disagree on this, but I think socialized health care is a better option for a country than the current U.S. system. No system is perfect, but it has generally been working quite well in many other countries that are quite comparible to the states in many ways. I think the U.S. system still doesn't have to be socialized in order to be improved though. 2 things..First,get rid of the collusion, and second; full disclosure from medical practices for what they charge, and full disclosure from insurance companies for how much they actually cover ( yes they give a percentage, but they do not disclose the actual amount they consider the procedure to cost). These things are hidden from the consumer who doesn't find out the cost of anything until after they have the service done. This is absurd! That doesn't mean these are the only things, but I think these are two things most Americans would agree upon.

Yesterday we told you how disgraced RINO Lisa Murkowski is working her "friends" network in the political establishment to try to steal the General Election campaign away from conservative Republican Joe Miller.

Today the news accounts are much worse. First, Murkowski's lawyers forced radio talk show host Dan Fagan off the airwaves because he was advocating for Joe Miller. Murkowski's legal team, backed by millions of dollars in special interest and labor union money, threatened the radio station they would be sued out of existence if they didn't boot Fagan until after the election - so as to silence his pro-Miller segments on his radio show.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Reporters at the Anchorage CBS TV affiliate were caught red-handed conspiring about how to ambush Joe Miller and come up with an unflattering story, concoting smears against Miller and then saying someone at the Joe Miller rally would surely have to fit the mold. They even suggested the smear of alleging the Miller supporters were child molesters.

Make a list of the 10 issues of most concern to the public, and then have each candidate state their position on those issues, including how they would vote on hypothetical bills that address each of those issues.

That would be clear and straightforward, and would help voters decide who best reflects their wishes.

I'm in Crazyille, NY, where we have the chose between the multi-generational liberal Democratic insider (sitting AG) Cuomo and a bat-wielding Bela Lugosi renincarnate fruit loop from Buffalo (funny accent and all) Paladino. Paladino's down by 20 points. And yet stupid Newsday could NOT find it in them to do an unbiased side-by-side comparison of the candidates positions on the issues. What the hell is that?

And if it's no longer going to be the media's job since they clearly can't handle it, whose job does it become? Who enforces the dissemination of that 10-point check list in a fair and non-partisan manor? The government? The party in power? A third-party "non-partisan" entity (LOL@non-partisan). Appointed by whom?

How do we decide who gets money? Fairly easily. Let's say $5 from every adult gets put into a pot. That would create a fund of about $1 billion, which then gets apportioned 40% to primary and 60% to general. Every qualified candidate gets allocated a percentage of the pot, based on the media available in their markets and the costs. CA candidates would get a larger share, in dollars, than NY candidates because they have two HUGE and several mid-size ADIs, whereas NY candidates can buy NYC and get about half the entire population. The rest of the ADIs in NY are mid to small markets and dirt cheap.

And that's ALL they get! Period. Then MAYBE we would see them FOCUS on issues and their own positions, versus wasting money on false claims and personal attacks.

I bought media, nationally and locally, for 12 years. And maybe I'm being overly simplistic in this, but what it really boils down to for me is unless we take the money OUT of the election equation and give that back to the voter as well, there is NO possible way the system as a whole changes. We still end up with a Congress and WH full of bought and paid for jackarses with the next election consuming their every thought.

First things first: There is no "loophole" in the law. The first amendment allows free speech. Just like with taxes, the campaign finance laws are designed to limit free speech, in violation of the first amendment. The only reason for these "loopholes" is so that the politicians can say to the gullible that they are doing something about a problem that doesn't exist, but is perceived to exist, and have the voters think they are wonderful people. Same with taxes, there are no loopholes in the tax laws. The money you make is yours. It's not a "loophole" to allow you to keep it. Now, if you are a socialist, there are loopholes because every penny that everyone makes is perceived to be owned by the government, and thus the politicians in charge, and anything that allows you to keep your money is a loophole.

Another point here is: what difference does it make who sponsored an ad? If it is against a particular politician, then it doesn't take a genius to figure out that it is put out by someone against that politician. Is that so hard?

Funny thing about that is that when that alleged surplus was there the Congress was under GOP control.

And, it is one, single war on two fronts, not two wars. We also were told going in that this might last for more than five or even more years. We also are not so uninformed to know that money comes from the Corporations as payroll. With these Corporations increasing or decreasing the cost of their products based on "Cost" (especially Payroll being the majority of their Cost). I am very highly skeptical that the new congress (if it is a republican majority) will do anything better. Until we re-invent our economy that was given away to too much de-regulation by not forcing auditable scrutiny of Wall Street and short term profits by companies outsourcing because of cheap labor caused by Unions asking for too many demands (though many were justified due to abuse) we have a very rough road.

You can argue "Pre existing Conditions" all you want however the Real Universal Health Care like what President FDR implemented would have covered this with ALL US Citizens having REAL Medical Care irregardless of costs for $42 per month. You don't have all the information on that bill. It hadn't passed the House, and even if that cloture vote had succeeded, it wouldn't have gotten to POTUSs desk before late November at best, since the House had already adjourned by the time the Senate even took it up.

That was different, but similar. The POTUS was trying to advance legislation further tightening campaign finance laws. What happened a few months ago was the decision of the SCOTUS throwing out part of the existing campaign finance laws.
