I like the idea that he's considered a journalist and not a vaudevillian performer like the cast of characters on Fox "News". I consider his suspension as simply a fine. I'll bet his ratings will skyrocket which will benefit both the firing manager and Olbermann.
For Olbermans ratings to skyrocket would mean that 5 more people would watch his show, Doubling his audience. He is still on at the same time as O'Reilly if I'm not mistaken
GARY DO KEITH A FAVOR!!...sit in the corner on your blanky with your woobie, and your celery....while i go put on keith for you..so you could learn something...LIKE THE TRUTH!!...
I'm sorry but KO only appeals to the hardcore progressives, not independants or to the right. His rants are so tiresome bordering on irrationality at times that it is painful to watch. I'd much rather watch Todd and Savanah in that time slot that KO and his bobblehead friends.
One more time... O'Reilly has an audience nightly of over 1 million viewers at the same time that Keithy-poo is on. Now if the 250,000 people who live in their parents basement signed a petition I don't find that to be a compelling argument that Mr Olberman is really a titan of political discourse. But.. I applaud his ability to keep a job at which he is so obviously ill prepared to competently fulfill.
Because -- right-wing republican idiots only get their info from one source: Faux News. They are comforted by that kind of mind control.
Moderates, independents, democrats watch several different sources... so, of course, the ratings for the non-Faux groups are going to be lower because their group is split up between several information sources. No surprise there...
Great insight Phyllis. I would counter that because only 30% of the country self identify as conservative, yet O'Reilly gets about 50% of that time periods politically interested viewers that he draws a lot of moderate, liberal viewers. Certainly a wider audience than MSNBC at that time period. Obviously your more "open minded" "intelligent" "non-mind controlled" "super-intellectuals" must be watching re-runs of the "Simpsons" from 8-9, because you ain't watching Olberman.
Please screw your head back on to the original decision. It is a great mistake to bring this guy back.
Did he try to extort or sue MSNBC? Is there something we don't know about.
From all the comments in the previous discussion 99 per cent of the People thought he was non deserving of this job.
What a mistake. What a mistake. This guy doesn't know his place; his mouth runs like you know what. He can't hear himself say the dribble coming out, or the offensive tone and speak---or maybe he thinks it is dribble in Basketball.
MSNBC Cable News. The present ratings should scare you.
For those rabid right wingers who are disparaging the size of his audience - Yeah he's not as big a draw as O'Reilly, however the comments you're making are incredibly stupid. Come on, get real. If he didn't have an audience you wouldn't be so upset.
As to his histrionic special commentaries - I agree with you. He's over the top and a bit embarrassing. So is O'Reilly and yet that's OK. And Beck is certfiably nuts. My God, it scares me to think of the level of ignorance that he must appeal to.
I know that you are fans of the fair and balanced approach to things. You should try reading and understanding the words. They're mostly all media whores pandering to the hatred out there. If you want to make them you're heros, on either side, then you've got the problem. No, actually our country has the problem and that's pretyy damn sad.
Lucky for us the people who are watching "Jersey Shore" aren't voting . At least not in New Jersey. No way they would have allowed Chris Christie to win.
I watch the Keith Olberman Show and the Rachel Maddow shows quite a bit although I must admit I usually don't pay close attention to their show while it's on because I know basically what they are about as reporters and commentators.
I think both of them are not doing progressives or the Left any favors by trying to convince their viewers that the Obama Administration or the leadership of the Democratic party is on their side and should be supported by them.
Obama has put through some of the most corporate and Wall Street friendly legislation and policies, even more so than the Bush administration in some areas, while doing little to help millions of americans who have no jobs and/are losing their homes to foreclosure. People from Goldman Sachs are in the Obama White House serving in influencial and important positions relating to the economy.
Obama and the Democrats have escalated the war in Afghanistan and we are still in Iraq, too. They have also increased the number predator drone attacks which kill many civilians.
Both Obama and the Democrats have continued and even increased Bush's attacks on civil liberties, the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Maddow is right about Fox News but at least Fox is out front about being a propaganda machine for the Republicans, Big Business and the right wing.
Obama and the Democrats pretend to be a friend of the average working american and minorities but they are really serving the interests of the same powerful institutions that the Republicans and Fox News are, and to the extent that Keith and Maddow support and defend the Obama Administration and the Democrats in general they help those same interests.
Hey dancing spiderman: What should it matter to you if Rachel is a man or a woman. Is it required that you know whether or not someone is white or Asian or Hispanic or Christian or Jewish. Sounds like you're into discrimination. By definition you are BACKWARDS!
What hypocrisy? Sean Hannity doesn't work for MSNBC.
This was a matter of Olbermann violating a contractual term of his employment. Nobody denied him one iota of any right to donate to ANY candidate Olbermann wanted to support. If he wanted BOTH the ability to have a forum for broadcasting his political beliefs AND to make donations according to his whims, Olbermann chose the wrong employer.
Dancing Spiderman cute name did your momma have a hard time getting you on the Birth Certificate? Nevertheless - I signed that petition - no I am not demented- don't sit in my basement wearing PJ's that's an old Sarah Palin line - and Dr Rachel Maddow is a Rhodes scholar - last I saw a woman - and probably has more brains in her little twinkie than you have in yours - get my drift. Grow up!
Radical vicious lefties? Really????? Lefties I will give you. Radical i will not, and i simply don't understand vicious. I have never seen Ms. Maddow or Mr. Olbermann deliberatley try and ruin anyone. Folks over at Fox don't give a damn whether they trash someone's career or life, as long as it sells news and makes a big sensation. The truth never bothers them over at Fox.
I get such a kick out of the occasional read of this left wing hoopla...
MAdow, who ever he is, is such a poop for brains.. The stupid comment that Fox has no policy on contributions and MSNBC does, yet MSNBC does not penalize is ummm, like California drug enforcement (pot) laws!!
What a jester!!
Olbermann needed this just to keep his name in the news.. a publicist stunt!
After all of their "relentless, whining attacks on FOX news, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck" isn't it funny how FOX, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck totally dominate the ratings?
Not really. It just goes to show that people truly would rather be told what they want to hear instead of the truth. Fox is not news. It's a political machine that is run by Rupert Murdoch who has a history of this kind of thing in Europe and Australia.
I guess we can see which supporters are more easily duped in this country. Of course we knew that already since they keep voting against what's best for themselves.
MSNBC will probably never get the ratings of Fox. Fox has a cult following. Unable to think for themselves its viewers look to Fox for direction and ratification for their right wing agenda. Just because the Repubs kicked ass last Tuesday doesn't mean they are correct. The American electorate is comprised of some of the most uninformed voters in the world. Sad but so true.
I'm a liberal soul, however, Keith needs to calm down a bit and quit being so outraged about every dumb thing some conservative or another says. Lawrence is more calm and tolerable to watch.
In America you have the right to remain stupid. You also have the right to remain silent. In your case, since you prove that your are stupid, you should remain silent. This forum is not for stupid people like you.
Gary Sowa: "....you super-intellectuals must be watching reruns of The Simpsons from 8-9..."
So much for The Simpsons being "intelligent" huh? Longest-running cartoon on TV, does that say anything? and it runs on where else...FOX. I haven't watched a new episode or rerun in over 10yrs.
Olbermann and crew hand FOX commentators their own asses on a plate, on a nightly basis, because as someone else said, FOX does nothing more than pander to their gullible viewer's fear and hatred, with misinformation, if not outright lies.
Fox news is like state run News in a communist country except it's propoganda for white people and capitalism. How many GOP presidential candidates are on their payroll?
Olberman has more intelligence than all of Fox's bubble headed bleach blonds put togther.
Laurence is more tolerable because he actually sits down and discusses things rationally with people on Morning Joe. Conversely, Olberman spends his time in the bubble with that columnist from the Nation and that British dude who looks like a strong wind would snap his scrawny neck. I've noticed a pattern when there's bad news in DemLand, he disappears for a show (probably apopoleptic and unable to perform the show). I guess after the Rep gains he needed two days off; how convenient to be suspended. KO's got to get out and talk to the other non-raving lefty inhabitents of the world and most of all, get over his anger problems.
I came back to the blog to see the chat, and wasn't surprised that the hatred is still strong.... I was hoping that those had vented enough, but I guess it is hard to tame such blind hatred and malice towards fellow Americans. I am glad to see it is little more imaginative then your mommy wears army boots; but it is much more rabid and disgraceful... Congratulations, maybe someday I can return and see some civility on this website... LOL... well on second thought I won't hold my breath LMAO.Congrats to the website to keep it alive and well....
This whole situation is a total joke. He gets suspended for donating to liberal politicians but it’s ok for him to worship them on the air while at the same time mocking anyone and everyone on the right? So much for Maddows claim of proof of their vast moral superiority to FOX News. A token suspension and slap on the wrist. I don’t care much for a lot of the people on FOX but at least they don’t think I’m an idiot by pretending to be unbiased the way MSNBC does.
This whole thing was probably a farce. The MSNBC execs probably got unbelievably tired of hearing soooooo much about FOX News ON THEIR OWN NETWORK that they decided to come up with something to get their network mentioned on FOX. I mean seriously, 75% of MSNBC “news” is about something FOX has done or is doing. When Maddow discussed Olbermans suspension on her show most of what she said was about FOX! If people want to know what FOX is up to why don’t they just watch it for themselves instead of getting it second hand from MSNBC? Oh that’s right, they do. Maybe if MSNBC wasn’t FOX’s biggest promoter they wouldn’t be getting buried by them in the ratings.
This is exactly what's wrong with this country. Everyone turns to all the different "news" channels for their political views. Which in turn leaves mindless, bickering, slaves to their parties, to talk about which one's opinion stinks worse.
He(Olberman) only got suspended because he handed the money to them(Democratic Party) directly instead of leaving it in the break room "Tip" jar or having it deducted straight from his check like everyone else.
Backcountry - Ever wonder why there is so many more liberal news sources than conservative? (I'd say the ratio is 5 to 1.) To me this is a reflection on America's overall viewpoint. If Fox news was a gauge of average Americans you'd see alot more of them.
Fox can rant about it's ratings all it wants while the rest of Americans get their news from CNN, MSNBC and internet blogs. Many of us are turned off by the lies, bigotry and hate spewed from Fox.
NBC has lost any and all credibility.........how many hours was Obermann silenced ???????? 100 ??
For violating NBC's rules......a hack blabbermouth gets a wrist slap.....
Now, if Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly or Shawn Hannity had donated two nickels to the RNC, the Left would have gone bananas.......or, maybe at least fruitcakes over this.....Ah, but not NBC.......
Fox News hosts such as Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity, and Mike Huckabee have donated to political campaigns and organizations, and a Fox News executive previously said he would not prohibit the practice.
And...
News Corp., owner of the Fox network, Fox News and newspapers including the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal, gave $1 million in late June to the Republican Governors Association, making it one of the largest corporate donors to the GOP group this election season.
Ever wonder why there is so many more liberal news sources than conservative? (I'd say the ratio is 5 to 1.)
No I don’t wonder. It’s pretty obvious after all. Liberals have always run the media it’s a reflection of who THEY are not the country. Polls have shown for decades that the majority of Americans consider themselves to be center-right. The only reason Fox News was started was as a counter to the liberal media. It’s really not rocket science. If most of the people’s viewpoint was liberal then Fox never would have gotten off the ground or at best they’d be on the fringe. They’d be dominated by all of the liberal options available; instead they crush all of the competition COMBINED.
I’ll not deny that a lot of what is on Fox is drivel but they do dedicate a portion of their programming to actual news. I can handle some of what’s on CNN but MSNBC is a total joke. You want to talk about lies, bigotry and spewing hate? That’s all MSNBC does. Did you watch any of their election coverage? They don’t even pretend to be unbiased; they just tell us they are while apparently assuming we’re all idiots. 40% of MSNBC programming is dedicated to bashing Republicans, 50% is bashing Fox news, and the last 10% is filler because there aren’t enough self-righteous uber-liberal newscasters to fill a 24 hour day of broadcasting.
Welcome back Keith. At last you took it like a man unlike any of the liars and parasites over at Faux News.
Your suspension gives credit to MSNBC and lets me know that its not the so callled "fair and balanced" garbage that is fed to the low information voters across the street.
rtyp06 Ever wonder why there is so many more liberal news sources than conservative? (I'd say the ratio is 5 to 1.) To me this is a reflection on America's overall viewpoint. If Fox news was a gauge of average Americans you'd see alot more of them.
riiigghhtt. newspapers are full of liberal writers bc that's what colleges spew forth. that doesn't mean they reflect what america thinks. it means they reflect what their professors think.
maybe in your world there are more cuckoo liberal 'news' sources than conservative, but here on planet earth - no way. #1 national newspaper? wall street journal. conservative lean. how many liberal radio hosts out there? how's that liberal talk 'air america' doing? oh, right it went bankrupt. npr? oh yeah, unable to support itself without begging drives and government money. please spare me that america is left leaning.
and maddows ridiculous rant on friday just proves her inability to construct a rational arguement. it doesn't matter what they do at fox news, bc that's not where he works. he violated a work rule at nbc. different workplaces have different rules. why do you liberals have such a hard time understanding that? i don't get it.
ltp; I agree, the right should be emulated in this instance, I mean, look how rational they took Juan Williams's firing from NPR (for violating a work rule)...uh, um...
What I'm hearing is a lot of folks making a case for no education because college is full of liberals, anti-gay because being intelligent and dealing with facts is somehow overshadowed by personal biases, no passionate views - after all Hannity nevr shouts over the top of his guets, right?, somehow liberals run the media - even when Olbermann supposedly gets no viewers,
Not compelling, and actually these comments make a case proving that Americans no longer aspire to learn to think, to learn more about facts or the world, and reject anything that does not match pre-approved talking points.
It's sad to see so much encouragement to ignorance and xenophobia and gay-bashing and unwillingness to allow those with another voice to have their own views.
America is really falling to second rate status. Very sad.....
Sedition is a term of law to refer to covert conduct such as speech and organization that is deemed by the legal authority as tending toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often included subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent (or resistance) to lawful authority. Sedition may include any commotion, though not aimed at direct and open violence against the laws. Seditious words in writing are seditious libel. Because sedition is typically considered a subversive act, the overt acts that may be prosecutable under sedition laws vary from one legal code to another.
treason...]...a citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]." In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavour.
both of the crimes you mention are punishable by death...and unless your an extreme fanatic...i would think you wouldnt want to kill anyone because of their political views...no matter how far left or right they swing...
nothing mr. olberman did could be construed even in the slightest as either of these actions as defined above...
before you go spreading more hateful one liners...please feel free to use a dictionary on occasion...they can be found at most dollar stores.
no imput on the story line...just wish people would do a lil fact/definition checking before they post...since your already online it shouldnt take long
In logic, an argumentum ad populum (Latin: "appeal to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or all people believe it; it alleges: "If many believe so, it is so."
This type of argument is known by several names,[1] including appeal to the masses, appeal to belief, appeal to the majority, appeal to the people, argument by consensus, authority of the many, and bandwagon fallacy, and in Latin by the names argumentum ad populum ("appeal to the people"), argumentum ad numerum ("appeal to the number"), and consensus gentium ("agreement of the clans"). It is also the basis of a number of social phenomena, including communal reinforcement and the bandwagon effect, the spreading of various religious beliefs, and of the Chinese proverb "three men make a tiger". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
1 deleted, Cryos starting off calling Rachel Maddow 'Ralph Maddow' immediately followed by calling another Viner a 'moonbat'. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Rachel Maddow is an enormous credit to this disasterous group of relics who were once known as "journalists".
Thank goodness shes on the air to bring truth and sanity to this ridiculously and willfully ignorant generation of voters.
You can "betcha" that Rachel will be a target for the Faux News folks as long as she keeps exposing the criminals on the Right and the idiots in the middle who allowed themselves to be scared into voting against their better interest (the so called "Independents".)
Independents have lost all credibility after the election as far as I'm concerned. I am fiscally conservative and socially balanced in the middle of the road which was once my impression of the "Independents"--but clearly that's not the case anymore based on their irresponsible voting record.
The personal insults aimed at Rachel do nothing other than raise her status as a fair and honest journalist. So save the aggressive and foul attacks against Rachel for the low information folks who can only process your Faux and Tea party garbage (You people know who you are)...
Give em Hell Rachel! And Way stick up for Keith--hes a good guy...
May I ask Tyler to delete and suspend those that refer to FoxNews as FAUX news.......it is a despicable slur and is not true......although universally allowed on this forum........
KO's rating is so low that he thought of something stupid to get some attention and maybe up his rating. KO is a non-factor in cable news, just like any other liberal news commentator, Mathews, rachel madcow, and others. Liberals watch liberals, they are comfortable with bias news. That's why there are far more( more than double) conservatives, independents, and other fair-minded people that watch FOX News than liberals wacthing liberal cable news media , or as Limbaugh calls them, "drive-by media". Don't believe it? Google it.
The past midtern election proved that liberals (democrats) are not good for this country. Obama and his liberal cohorts are moving this country into a wrong direction(socialism) and the Amercan people overwhelmingly rejected it.
So, wake up you liberals, and think of what JFK said, "ask not what your country could do for you, but what you could do for your country." Well what you could do for your country is to reject the socialist agenda of Obama and his party.
Socialism kills the American Dream. You children and future generations would have no chance to achieve the American Dream in a socialist society. In a socialist society, the poor stays poor and the rich ruling class stay rich and in power. You don't don't want. You want youself or your children to have a chance to be all you or your children could be.
You just cannot be serious so I'm certain that you will be ignored.
Faux News is a political wing and fundraiser for the GOP, the Tea Party, and the political celebrities such as Sara Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the like.
If you care so much about the reputation of Faux then you should begin by holding Faux accountable for their despicable behavior and the deliberate misleading of the American people such as folks like yourself.
Become intellectually independent and an information seeker so that you are capable of doing the research that is necessary for you to become politically informed with the facts. This will help you so that you wont make embarrassing and ignorant comments like you just did in the future.
Please direct comments like the one you made above toward the low information voter my friend...Not Newsvine intellectuals.
might help if Dane were to look up the definition of the word "Faux". My guess Dane is thinking other than the actual meaning of the word. Despicable seems a little harsh.
May I ask Tyler to delete and suspend those that refer to FoxNews as FAUX news.......it is a despicable slur and is not true......although universally allowed on this forum........
Let's be fair, Tyler, let's be fair.........
Perhaps they'll stop calling it Faux News when you stop calling President Obama "Barry the clown":
I actually liked Maddows journalism from Iraq when a lot of our troops left a war that Bush should have never gotten us into, now thats true journalism, unlike the propaganda spreading unprofessionalism coming from another unnamed cable channel.
@ Feronia Great find. I just wish I could like it more than once.
@ DaneLover It's interesting to note that I made a dissenting opinion at FOX (if that makes you happy) concerning Keith Olbermann's suspension, and it was never published.
Talk about Hypocrisy! Do you not know the difference in supporting
and AMERICAN party versus a SOCIALISTIC/MARXIST party? There
are laws that would make this an act of treason/sedition.
Someone should be behind BARS rather that being REWARDED. The
only bar that he will be in is the local PUB>
#1.46 - Mon Nov 8, 2010 5:20 AM HST
So the hundreds of millions of Americans that aren't as militantly ultraconservative as you are, Golferbug, in your Cold War, McCarthyist political beliefs... are possibly guilty of "treason/sedition," and belong in prison?
And WHOSE "laws" are you referring to, anyhow? Have you donated any of your time and/or money to support your right-wing beliefs that anyone who isn't like you must be guilty of belonging to a, "SOCIALIST/MARXIST party"?
Do you even realize what the definition of those words are, or do you get a lot of mindless mileage out of accusing everyone of it? Do you even realize that officially discriminating against any American on the basis of their political party affiliation in the U.S., is ILLEGAL? Do you know what the judicial redress and punishment is, for doing that against someone, or to a group of people in the U.S. ?
Too bad they brought him back. I was hoping they would replace hime with an Off / Off Switch - You know, a button that isn't connected to anything; or better yet, a smoking hole in the ground.
It just goes to prove that there aren't any true "News" services in this country any more. Its all about ratings, ad revenue, and whiners. Ethisc and a Code of Conduct? We Don't need no stinkin' Ethics! What a shame. I bet that Chet Huntley and David Brinkley are turning in their graves right now.
Indefinitely now equals two days? Classy job msnbc... its not the politics of it, its the fact that he broke protocol, if one of his staffers pulled the same thing, how quickly would he lose his job?
Go whine somewhere else!....to bad!!..MSNBC knows that keith is their no.1 commentater on the air...It was us!! The people that brought pressure on phil griffin & the powers that be at MSNBC to bring back keith!!WE WILL NOT BE SILENT!!
tea-bag-not said, "Go whine somewhere else!....to bad!!..MSNBC knows that keith is their no.1 commentater on the air...It was us!! The people that brought pressure on phil griffin & the powers that be at MSNBC to bring back keith!!WE WILL NOT BE SILENT!!"
If somebody here broke their company's ethics/code of conduct that put the company in a bad light, I'm sure a slap in the wrist would make everybody happy too. I don't think he should have lost his job (he's paid to be a commentator, not a journalist), but at least make it look like you actually care he broke the rules by suspending him for a week.
Fox News has already admitted in multiple publications and statements that they don't consider themselves to be a pure news organization, they're main goal is to provide commentary, so comparing to the BBC or AP or "real" news organization is asinine, as they don't even consider themselves journalists. If NBC wants to consider themselves an actual news service, then they need to make sure they adhere to the ethics rules they have on the books, or just admit they're the Fox News of the Left and Olberman won't have this problem again
evolution1085: MSNBC has "admited" they're the Fox News of the left (seen the "lean forward" branding?). Much better than Fox's BS of "fair and balanced". Oh, and don't forget that it isn't NBC, its MSNBC. As in Microsoft (NBC's partner in MSNBC). Still think they don't know what they're doing? Oh, and the definition of "indefinately" is an un-specified amount of time.
The problem is that even though Fox may admit to being focused on commentary, many of their viewers think they are getting hard news and take the opinions as fact. This is a real problem. Many Americans are woefully misinformed because of this.
evolution whined: "Indefinitely now equals two days?"
Hey Dummy. When an employer suspends someone indefinitely, it's until their deliberation is done regarding that employee's violation, and subsequent status and disposition in the company.
In Olbermann's case, that deliberation will take priority over, say, a personnel assistant in their HR department, and will be decided more quickly. His employer made the decision, handed down the punishment, and moved on. It lasted two or three days because that's how long it took them to decide and determine what the punishment would be.
Yikes, sounds like the colloquial use of indefinite to provide a long term suspension without initially providing terms is lost on some people, ala "Phyllis-2480124 has been indefinitely suspended from the human race for acting like a complete dbag on a message board for her comments not contributing anything to a thread that was meant to provide a point/counterpoint discussion on whether or not journalistic ethics are taken seriously by news outets"
NBC has been crooked since the days of David Sarnoff. Why would you believe ANYTHING from that network or ANY television network, for that matter? If you youngsters don't know who David Sarnoff is, look it up. I'm not going to do your research for you.
If msnbc and the other 12 viewers think keith blabberman is so great, what's the problem. msnbc guru's must be new on the job or inept...blabberman is a loser. blabberman is to msnbc as nancy pelosi is to libs - a sufire way to drop ratings and votes. I jump back and forth between fox and msnbc just to see how inept your network is. what a joke for news and information. FOX RULES the networks always have and always will. You libs need to get some deeper undertanding of the outside world...you've been hiding under a rocks too long!
If you knew anything about ratings you'd know neither cable show (Oberman or O'Reilly) comes anywhere close to reaching ONE broadcast news show in a major market. The numbers are miniscule.
Fox News open bias against anything not Pro-Republican. Yes the poster's name is "LiberalViewer' but that in no way takes away from what is reported. But I'm sure that won't stop Right-Wingers from denouncing the credibility of this uploader.
It was liberal thinking that brought us the US Constitution, and I am proud to claim that name. Liberal thinking allows for new ideas, creative thinking and progress.
And btw... for those of you who say Keith has "no" ratings. Not the case when over 200,000 of his viewers sign a bring him back petition in less than 48 hours.
I agree....290,000 sounds about right as probably being his total number of viewers. I was hoping Keith OLBERBUM was going to stay gone. I don't normally watch him but once in a while I'll tune in to hear what sort of crap he's spewing. He's a total moron and I'm unable to watch for more than a couple of minutes. Then I'm nauseated and have to run to the bathroom. I've got to admit too....the jerk Ed Schultz (I believe it is) is just as bad as Olberbum or maybe even worse. Both total wackos!
Bill & Jim....both liars with no credibility, but to post such nonsense makes them feel better, and puffs up their egos. They can exult by shouting, BOY, I SURE TOLD THEM A THING OR TWO. And, I even got to use the word MORON. Pant, pant.
I'm hoping the new ownership is smart enough to tone down the over the top progressive nonsense and put in somebody a little more mainstream. I'd bet a measured, thoughtful host could first not get into trouble like that and second garner a lot more than .3 million signatures. Looking at this countries makeup, viewership at that level is chicken scratch. Ohh consider me not impressed.
Mr. Its... wants someone who is more mainstream and who will tone down the over the top progressive nonsense. Well, how about saying the same for the guys & gals over at Fox with their over the top conservative nonsense? Also, just a note. The possessive for country is country's, not "countries. And, consider me, "not impressed".
This New York Times Keith Olbermann profile pretty much sums up why conservatives signed most of that petition and are very happy to see Keith back on the air:
"Because of his personal demons, Keith has imploded everywhere he's worked. From lashing out at co-workers to personally attacking Bill O'Reilly and all things Fox, it's obvious Keith is a train wreck waiting to happen. And like all train wrecks, people might tune in out of morbid curiosity, but they eventually tune out, as evidenced by Keith's recent ratings decline. In the meantime, we hope he enjoys his paranoid view from the bottom of the ratings ladder and wish him well on his inevitable trip to oblivion."
The difference is O'Reilly debates with the opposing view on a daily basis. I'm trying to recall Olbermann ever having an opposing view on his show and frankly can't think of one instance. His show is constant rant between people of the same viewpoint. They gloss over the details and go straight to the hammer the conservatives mode. That is why he and Ed fails.
I'm trying to recall Olbermann ever having an opposing view on his show and frankly can't think of one instance...
Ha ha ha! He'd love to have specimens like Palin, Angle, O'Donnell or Michelle Bachmann on his show, but they usually go to great lengths to avoid speaking with most media... with the exception of the Republican fund raising channel, Fox.
Let me see, there's not one conservative/libertarian he can get on his show? I can't believe his staff is that incompetent. If he wanted to get somebody he could; heck, Maddow can get McCain's daughter. Can't is lazy, stupid or lack of imagination.
Actually some of us like to watch news and comments from many sources, like the BBC, other International news, MSNBC, CNN, Local news and I even check in on Fox.
As a Old Mensa Member (do they still exist?) who realizes Keith and Rachel and Lawrence exceed my IQ, my grasp of the complexities, I wonder how you reached your conclusion?
Oh yes, an old friend of mine with an IQ in the 180's said a person judging the level of another cannot grasp the reach of an intelligence beyond his own..........
This once 50 year Registered Republican watches him, that's who.
Actually I began 'thinking' before 2000 but I didn't change registration before that. What was I thinking? The problem is, I wasn't or I would have escaped the Right-Wing Hate machine earlier.
To think, I actually voted against mine and all of American workers interests all those years. Yikes. BTW, when people use insults such as "Moron" when referring to another? Guess what they are?
It’s obvious you and the Republicans/Tea Partiers who agreed with your comment certainly cared enough to read this article and post stupid negative untrue comments.
Olbermann a 150 IQ? Are you kidding me? No, sports trivia doesn't go into an IQ measurement. The only thing that makes me think he is a bit intelligent is that he just doesn't seem to understand how to get along with people not wired like he is.
There is something very strange about what transpired between Griffin and Olbermann. Everyone who thinks their signatures counted, might be in denial.
Did you all read the first comments re: Olbermann---definitely a dud in a weak seat. The only news this guys spews is hatred. Hope he treats others with respect, when outside of the media light.
Strangely enough, hawaii2, when i listen to Keith I may not agree with him every time, but I never find him 'spewing hate'. I find him concerned with how things affect every day people. I find him compassionate. Intolerant of idiocy, yes, but always concerned about the fate of people and America and the world in general, not just part of it, not just who pays the bills at the whole political mash up machine (ie corporations). I have no idea how that can possibly translate to 'hate'. Oh wait...scathing commentary on the culpability of the corporate machinery in the continual downfall of the life of the average American.... sure, that's hate to the right wing side of things. Mustn't upset the big Money Masters. Screw the little folks. They're just grist for the mills. (shush, mustn't let the common people hear that, they might come out of their stupor)
Be real everyone..the only people who spew hate is Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. I was one of over 250,000 that signed that petition...and I am grateful that Keith will be on....he was a loud voice for the change of healthcare in this country
Well, those whose mental capaciities are no higher than George W. Bush and those of you who think that Sarah Palin is brighter than a rock agree with you, but those who favor democracy and read books on economics, history and philosophy think your statement is the dumbest thing we ever heard in our lives.
Is it obvious you don't have the intelligence to understand what he is saying, just like your negative supporters. BICKER, DIMWITTY, LUSH LIMPBALLS and O'REALLY have you in their herd.
In America you have the right to remain stupid. You also have the right to remain silent. In your case, since you prove that your are stupid, you should remain silent. This forum is not for stupid people like you.
I enjoy watching the guy -- and will be glad to see him back on the air -- He is smart, funny and most importantly -- bases his comments on facts (which is not the often the case with someone like Glenn Beck or RUsh) -- Still I think it was wrong of KO tto have nade these donation -- especially if he was aware of that clause in his contract -- It is interesting that those here wgo continue to attack him also admit that they do not watch his program -- so how can you really judge? (Yes,I do watch FOX from time to time -- so i can indeedmake a "educated" staement about both. Welcome back Keith --
Assuming you beleave that ABC, CBS and NBC are also liberal networks, then Fox's audience can't come close to the combined viewership of those networks. Clearly, most of the country is smarter than the average Fox viewer.
Actually Morning Joe and Daily Rundown are two of my favorite shows. Commentary from all sides, with respect, and some actual news blended in can be very enlightening. Copy that format to the afternoon and night slots and I may not be quite as queasy watching MSNBC at other times of the day. Watch some of Ed's daily polls and you'll see his listeners are nowhere near main stream American thought.
smarterthananyconservative, if your going to claim that your smarter than any conservative it would help to spell the word believe correctly! It's spelled b e l i e v e, not beleave! WOW, liberals really are retarded!
Michael.. thank goodness you have spell check. Otherwise you wouldn't have anything to say. Hard to ignore the fact that you couldn't dispute my point, only my spelling.
More than a few peole watch MSNBc -- as is evident by the write-in numbers of those who wanted him back on the air (per the story)-- It is also true FOX gets bigger rating -- but than again -- a lot more people stop to look @ a train wreack involving a car load of clowns than a 'fender bender' between two college professors. Unfortunaley -- smart people speaking in an educated, clear and logical way attracts less attention than loud and crazy blowhards!
Fortunately Keith is never loud and/or a crazy blowhard. You must not watch much. Today is the first time I've seen him toned down a little. Hopefully this is the new Keith.
Thank you MSNBC for bringing back Keith Olbermann to the line up.he is the only sane commentater's voice of what's happening out there in la la land.Keith made MCNBC,he is MSNBC,HE IS THE MOTTO: LEAN FOWARD!!
Outstanding news... Olbermann is a fine news person. He and the staff of MSNBC focus on news and search for the truth in stories that affect us... You know, the millions of tax payers who have no control over what really happens in our world. Welcome back...
Welcome back Keith. Now, when you get back, how about helping to promote true election/campaign finance reform through the Popular Amendment movement? I know that you have been sent the information several times (along with Maddow and several constitutional law professors.) For all of you posters, go to www.faircampaignreform.us and join the movement.
The biggest blow to campaign finance reform was Obama rejecting public financing to gain a $400 million advantage from undocumented prepaid credit cards.
I didn't watch the socialist piece of crap before and I will not now. Meh...Perhaps Madcow would take a extended vacation as well and I won't watch her liberal insipid rainbow azz after she gets back either.
So why are you posting about Keith, again? Shouldn't you be on Fox online? I see a lot of Keith O bashers on here, he must be doing something right...ha!
Dang a dang Andy, please don't throw words like socialism around, as though you knew what it means- according to fox and limpbark. You are part of this society or you are not a social animal.
As such it is very very different from your apparent affiliation with Corporate Socialism which is more and more evident the governing power of the USA bought for with biggest corporate money and the loudest noise.
The voice of the people takes many forms and MSNBC as a whole is for those who know. If you hate socialism, you should do an arse about turn, double quick.
Griffin should now think hard, MsnBC does not prohibit contribution; that it should be approved, as stated in the contract is acceptable but to be approved by one person, the president of Msnbc smacks of autocracy, totally undemocratic. Keith may have unwittingly but rightly, by instinct, put himself as a test case to challenge the autocratic nature in his contract.
Awesome, Keith! Welcome back to the land of the living! Remind us, please, how overwhelming public support can turn things around...like healthcare, jobs, elections, etc.
He was Dan Patrick's sidekick on ESPN's Sunday night Sportscenter also known as 'The Big Show'. Then he left for NBC never to be heard from again other than an occasional appearance on NBC's SNF.
Why does NBC care if a sportscaster donates to a political candidate anyways...
Why do you care enough to post comments about it on MSNBC's NewsVine? And, why do you care about it SO much as to lie about the facts about Olbermann? Must be serious enough to get under your thin skin... Maybe it's time for you to put your big-gurl pants on, Stacey, and grow up a little
Lie about the facts about Olbermann?? Interesting.
Maybe you are too young, but he did co-anchor ESPN Sportscenter with Dan Patrick, they even co-authored a book about their experiences titled 'The Big Show' in 1997.
I have seen him occasionally appear on NBC Sunday Night Football (it was probably during halftimes).
Those are facts, so why are you upset about these facts and call them lies? BTW, what is a gurl?
Keith Olbermann is one of 2 most trusting Broadcast Journalists on TV. The other is Rachel Maddow. Olbermann. Keith exercises more than 10% of his brain power (Intelligence), without fear of "Hate producers" on other TV channels like "FOX. Some of these "hateful" journalists broadcast on radio "Talk Shows" and psychologically, acquire many listeners, why refuse to think for themselves. If TV/Radio listeners who really want true facts and real journalism, politically, Olbermann and Maddow are seen/heard on MSNBC.
You may know about Keith's past career but you jumped and skipped in someone's career timeline. As a sports commentator he also knows his left foot from his right; as a journalist he is with the very few who holds on to the true american dream with values intact and fiercely guarding them.
An afternoon spent reading just his "special comments" will demonstrate my point to you.
Can you document your suggestion that MSNBC is an extension of the Democratic fundraising machine? Because Fox news is easily documented as such, even for a beginner. Please produce some evidence for your claim. That's what we MSNBC watchers are used to -- evidence.
FOX has been a right wing propaganda machine from its inception. The idea that right wingers would seek to have their own network is not surprising, they are in the midst of starting their own AARP organization because AARP wasn't conservative enough for them, they've attacked National Public Radio incessantly for years...they make no bones of where they are at. So on that score nothing surprises me about the far right fringe but what confuses me is the very supple support they have had from the media, government etc...it is as though someone has decided that they have sufficient credibility to warrant serious consideration, just as Rasmussen Polls continue to be cited even after it has become clear that they have a political ax to grind.
Duh, did you not watch election night coverage? Or did you miss that news that Olbermann was suspended for contributions to three democratic candidates, all at the maximum legally allowed level? One donation on the same night the candidate appeared on Olbermann/s "news" program. Pretty easy to grab some evidence there, don't you think? That's the problem in a nutshell, functional dishonesty and delusional thinking...
I've been around since before TV. I remember the first news we watched was CBS. Then came NBC and ABC. Other that that there was none other. This went on for nearly FIVE DECADES of nothing but liberal slanted news. They Republicans took to the AM RADIO to get out their message. Now some half a century later, the republicans get a CABLE channel and all the liberals a pizzin their pants about it? Sounds more like sour grapes to me. I doubt if it was the other way around you'd be happy at all. I can just hear it now the squall from the left.
Fox had 7 million viewers PAYING to watch them on election night. CNN was next with PAYING customers. You got your MSNBC to pay and watch. The only problem liberals have is,
1) they can't bury a story anymore and hide it from the public.
2) they hate it when the story is given and the viewer is left to decide.
3) they can no longer tell part of a story they artfully omit other parts and call it fact.
4) FoxNews is here to stay, calling names doesn't make it so. And anyone like me who saw the first black and white TV see's that clearly. Just as many say MSNBC is a joke of news station. Watch what you like.
Liberals have 6 plus staions to get their flavor of news. Reps have 1 station and lots of radio still. For goodness sake get over it.
You liberals amaze me. You can add up all the conservative hosts or political commentators that are somewhat regulars on NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC all together and you will not match the number of liberals on Fox news. There is absolutely a wide view of opinions and reporting from left to right on Fox. You can not say that about the other channels. Fox is by far, outdistancing the other channels on cable news and the amount of viewers. Fox by far, outnumbered the other channels on the elections for viewers. Why, because you have pathetic journalists/hosts like chris matthews and keith olbermann that insult their guests and laughing at them in the background. What professionalism by these pathetic excuses for liberal journalists. olbermann and matthews both ought to be sent off packing and not askied to be back. The point is that most Americans are getting sick and tired of the liberal agenda, the poor professionalism in their journalist, and the poor one sided reporting that they do. olbermann is a joke and is being beat on by Bill O'Reilly in the ratings.
Well now Mark to be fair there are many liberals who refuse to go on FoxNews because they're not allowed to demand only certain questions be asked of them by the host.
They liberals you see on Fox have the guts to come in and answer the tough questions without a teleprompter full of predecided answers.
And conversely MSNBC is not an extension of the democrat party fund-raising machine
You think that the fact that Olberman, an individual, gave contributions to a few candidates on his own nickel is evidence that MSNBC is an extension of the "democrat party" fundraising machine? That explains a lot about how you think.
When I asked for evidence for your statement above, I was thinking more along the lines of actual evidence that the network itself was directly involved in fundraising and distributing money -- kind of like FOXPac, for example. Got anything like that on MSNBC? Hmmm?
The only sensible way to bring down O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Palin, etc is to stop allowing them to hang on the coat tails of the Repulican Party, which does not exist, anymore...Republican Party weaknesses were traded out for storng and committed "Haters" in America. Open your eyes, ears, your minds and never associate the above named "Haters" and others like, with a longterm American Political party accepted through its platform, by many conservative Americans wanting to remain a "Traditional Republican Party".
The guys named above will bring to the forefront Traditional Oppression in its many forms...racism, classism, adultism---
so in msnbc has a policy in place i get it. but why then did scarboro not get suspended. this has to do with comcast and they are very right leaning. this was BS.
dji I hear you loud and clear...if you noticed my top post, you saw that I thought the suspension was hypocritical for the very reason you describe about Scarborough. Since I posted that, I've found that he got a pass because he "asked written permission" from NBC before making the donations. I presume that this was Olbermann's "error" if he missed that step.
So, OK, they suspended him for two work days for his policy-adherence omission. I still think it's hypocritical fo NBC to "punish" him at all over this technicality, but so-be-it.
The larger point is that MSNBC has a policy at all....comparative to NO policy at FOX. Frankly, I'm surprised FOX/NewsCorp/Murdoch don't make all their employees TITHE 10% to the GOP every paycheck.
Not getting permission was the problem that Olberman had. That fact was made over and over. Had he gone to Griffen or the powers that be and asked permission, as his and Scarborough's contract require, nothing would have happened.
Olberman is a smart guy, the question might be, do you sign a contract and than pick and choose what you follow with that contract?
IIRC MSNBC was selling Obama party stickers/buttons etc. during the 2008 election. Then there's GE, the parent of MSNBC actively lobbying for their business interests for medical devices, or wind turbines for cap and trade.
Besides we all know the funding for the dems come from Soros groups and the think tanks that fund all the NPR shows that are listed every day. Then there's all those union members (teachers, SEIU) lucky enough to donate a part of their paycheck to the union bosses pet political projects. All those people contributing to the Sierra Club have a portion of their membership diverted to Dem campaigns. Shame Acorn has packed up their business, that was such a sweet mechanism to perpetuate voter fraud. I'm sure given the funding above some other group will step up to take its place.
But you see, the Libs get all unwound when some PACs or the US Chamber of Commerce collect money to donate to conservatives to fund their interests. I'm trying to follow your logic but it's impossible.
Mentioning Acorn reveals that you have little grasp of the facts. As has been amply demonstrated, the whole Acorn debacle was a put-up job using sting tactics and out of context film editing. A FOX lie is what that story was. Look into it on a neutral source if you have the interest to discover the truth.
Ahh, it was such a put-up that the Dems wouldn't continue funding them despite all that misinformation so they just took down the tent rather than fight. That's not the Dem party I know. Innocent until proven guilty and even then it's a big conservative right wing conspiracy.
I am sick and tired of people calling other people "moron" (or "moran") because they have a different opinion. What is wrong with you? Intelligent, thoughtful people can disagree. That is America. Everyone has a right to their opinion and there is NOT ONE WAY to view our politics. Live with it and stop demonizing those who have a different point of view.
Sham Cam guy, speak for yourself, 250,000 unsolicited petitions for his immediate reinstatement is no mean feat, what?
Free yourself of propaganda, read his collection os "special comments", reflect on the world around you; I think you too could be salvaged from the cesspool of lies.
Liberals desperately need Keith back hence all their angry letters and threats to msnbc.
Kind of hard to toe the liberal line without the cheerleaders to keep letting yourself live the ignorant lies. Blinding yourself from reality is hard work!
You are sadly confused. Did you forget to take your medication? It is Fox news viewers who are blinded from reality, living in the lala land created by the likes of Glen Beck.
What a crock! He violates journalistic ethics and he's back in two days. Clearly MSNBC has no spine. Most companies would fire him for that. Time to stop watching MSNBC.
Great publicity stunt and gives Maddow yet another chance to sling mud at Fox news even though far as I can tell, Fox had NOTHING to do with Olbermann's contract w/ NBC. Hopefully it boosted the ratings and Olbermann's faithful followers will be lining up to watch his monotonous rhetoric and rantings going on...and on...and on...
Consider the "free publicity" PMS-NBC and this mental case received?
I vote for MORE Olberman!
I vote for MORE Mathews!
I vote for MORE Maddow!
Thanks to their "message" FORMER Obama supporters are running from him like rats from a burning building... it is so sad and so hilarious.
Most of all... their mere presence is a "perfect reminder" that there really are people out there who actually THINK like that?
They actually get paid to do it?
There are possibly dozens of viewers who value their opinions? Instead of placing these viewers in some type of mental institution... America allows them to vote?
That PROVES just how tolerant America really really is.
PMS-NBC and these so-called "headliners" are an "endangered species" and soon may be extinct... so don't keep making fun of their pathetic ACT.
Mama always said we should take pity on those who are feeble minded.
But when your employer can suspend you under company policy and deliberate several days, with the benefit of a time change of course, that weekend must be excruciating slow. Hello, was that really necessary?
When he was a sportscaster, I enjoyed watching him. When he went to MSNBC, I discovered that he is a left wing nut job. He should be fined the amount he donated and released from his job. Of course then MSNBC would loose their best mouthpiece, ergo 2 broadcast day suspension. Makes me make absolutely sure I don't watch MSNBC.
"lose" ------not "loose"!! If you want to make an intelligent comment, know the difference between these two words! Good idea, quit watching TV, you may want to pick up a book from time to time.
hm.minn50: If you have the audacity to correct one's grammar, punctuation, and spelling, please USE correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thank you.
mucho mas: hm.minn50: If you have the audacity to correct one's grammar, punctuation, and spelling, please USE correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thank you.
Same goes for you, MM. Twice you used a comma improperly in that post (before the word and). So please -- don't hand out grammar and punctuation criticism to people when you can't do it properly yourself. Thanks!
Meanwhile, back to your right-wing bible-home-schooling...
I have also been taught that either is correct -- but then I went to school in Massachusetts. The "extra" comma was referred to as "the Harvard comma." Wonder how Mucho Mas feels about that?
No one is watching his show anyways! Keith is hard to stomach! His jokes are like dried dog @!$%#......old and stinky. So who had the worst coverage of the elections? MSNBC! Who treated Republican guest with no respect? MSNBC! Who had the lowest ratings on election night? MSNBC! MSNBC pulled in 1.9 million viewers on election night........Bill O'Reilly gets a little more than half of that on a regular night! So it appears to me that really no one watches MSNBC. But does it really matter? Of course not. When your down as low as MSNBC is in the ratings it doesn't matter what you do, you"ll still suck at the end of the night!
Nice try, but no cigar. While Fox beat MSNBC, the got creamed by everyone else (i.e. the "main stream media"). You must really be deperate to believe you're in the "main stream" by watching Fox.
wow what an arrogant name, it's encouraging to see what crawls out late at night and further it's great that the manner in which liberals conduct themselves (as witnessed by this blog) gives even more fuel to the continued political tsunami the liberals took on tuesday. Mr/Mz. smarterthananyconservative clearly only checks facts from one source, and obviously, in order to be smarter than half the nation in would require a little more than that. Having to say it just indicates projection...keep wishing
Excellent - what a hypocritical suspension this was in the first place.
I like the idea that he's considered a journalist and not a vaudevillian performer like the cast of characters on Fox "News". I consider his suspension as simply a fine. I'll bet his ratings will skyrocket which will benefit both the firing manager and Olbermann.
Skyrocket? You mean another three in addition to the twelve that actually watch now? Dream on!
For Olbermans ratings to skyrocket would mean that 5 more people would watch his show, Doubling his audience. He is still on at the same time as O'Reilly if I'm not mistaken
hey gary..o'reilly is for old folks that have dementia.....yes KEITH OLBERMANN'S RATINGS WILL SKY ROCKET...And all for the good!
Like I said, if 5 more of you watch his show, his ratings will double. Look it up if you are sooooo bright.
GARY DO KEITH A FAVOR!!...sit in the corner on your blanky with your woobie, and your celery....while i go put on keith for you..so you could learn something...LIKE THE TRUTH!!...
Over 250,000 people signed the online protest petition to MSNBC asking to have him back, but you kind of ignored that. Right?
I'm sorry but KO only appeals to the hardcore progressives, not independants or to the right. His rants are so tiresome bordering on irrationality at times that it is painful to watch. I'd much rather watch Todd and Savanah in that time slot that KO and his bobblehead friends.
One more time... O'Reilly has an audience nightly of over 1 million viewers at the same time that Keithy-poo is on. Now if the 250,000 people who live in their parents basement signed a petition I don't find that to be a compelling argument that Mr Olberman is really a titan of political discourse. But.. I applaud his ability to keep a job at which he is so obviously ill prepared to competently fulfill.
its,
It's "independent"
Gee. Let's see...why are Bill's ratings higher?
Because -- right-wing republican idiots only get their info from one source: Faux News. They are comforted by that kind of mind control.
Moderates, independents, democrats watch several different sources... so, of course, the ratings for the non-Faux groups are going to be lower because their group is split up between several information sources. No surprise there...
Thanks to Phil Griffin, millions have discovered that other media outlets besides MSNBC can provide an alternative to the Main Stream Media.
Good work, Phil.
Now resign, you incompetent jerk.
NH, the best reply you could muster is to note I made a typo? Care to refute anything else?
Watch me. If I believed it was a typo I wouldn't have commented. You do apparently believe what you see on Fox, after all...
Actually I spend more time on MSNBC in the morning. If their afternoon/evening programming was not so insipid I'd spend the evenings watching it too.
MSNBC Cable News:
More people watch Jersey Shore than both fox news and msnbc combined. Just goes to show how dumbed down this country has become.
Lucky for us the people who are watching "Jersey Shore" aren't voting . At least not in New Jersey. No way they would have allowed Chris Christie to win.
You got that right, but then again I killed my TV and only follow what's on the web. I'd rather READ.
This Rachel person... is it a guy or a chick?
I cannot tell. I need to know.
Somebody hep me out withis.
I am so glad to hear that they are allowing him back, Keith is the one true Journalist on cable news, unlike all the nuts over at faux.
Arch Stanton, it's obvious you don't pay close attention.
Keith and Rachel both have criticized Obama and the Democrats on many, many, many occasions for the very things you cite!
Grow up!
The deliberation took only as long as it took to see the ratings and the lost advertising revenue...plain and simple.
Qwik Silver-
Radical vicious lefties?
Probably suspended with pay just so Rachel Madcoww could go on and say how NBC is above Fox by having this policy. What a load of lib BS.
What is the point of suspended someone for violating the employer's policy?
He should have been fired.
But, I never watched him before and won't watch him now, so this little ploy for ratings and 15 minutes of fame did not work on me.
I completely agree. By the way, Madow is a female but she kind of looks like a guy!
He only got a week!? If it had been Republicans that he made donations to he would have been terminated.
DaneLover..
Fox News hosts such as Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity, and Mike Huckabee have donated to political campaigns and organizations, and a Fox News executive previously said he would not prohibit the practice.
And...
You should look up the history of Rupert Murdoch.
Get Real-
You are so right about the length of the suspension being tied to ratings and revenue loss.
The suspension was just a smoke-and-mirrors symbolic act to try and make it look like DNC-MSNBC is fair, balanced and non-partisan.
@RTyp06
Hehehehehehehehe, FOX Spews: It's Not a Lie, If You Believe It.
Welcome back Keith. At last you took it like a man unlike any of the liars and parasites over at Faux News.
Your suspension gives credit to MSNBC and lets me know that its not the so callled "fair and balanced" garbage that is fed to the low information voters across the street.
Well done MSNBC
riiigghhtt. newspapers are full of liberal writers bc that's what colleges spew forth. that doesn't mean they reflect what america thinks. it means they reflect what their professors think.
maybe in your world there are more cuckoo liberal 'news' sources than conservative, but here on planet earth - no way.
Very sad.....
golferbug.....just so you know...
sedition...
I really don't understand (on either side of the isle) why it's such an issue for these people to fund campaigns.
1 deleted, Cryos starting off calling Rachel Maddow 'Ralph Maddow' immediately followed by calling another Viner a 'moonbat'. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Jesus Hates Tea and Phyllis-2480124 followed up with flames. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Nice job, prior, very nice.
So, Golferbug, I guess this means you won't be signing up for and collecting from that egregious socialist, government-run program, Medicare?
tea-bag-not, don't do this. Comment like an adult. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 and #5 of the Code of Honor.
Thanks Tyler
It's going to be okay republicants....Olberman is coming back to balance out the magical, mystical, "reporting" that is FUX News.
FAUX News.... are you watching?
Thanks
May I ask Tyler to delete and suspend those that refer to FoxNews as FAUX news.......it is a despicable slur and is not true......although universally allowed on this forum........
Let's be fair, Tyler, let's be fair.........
DaneLover,
You just cannot be serious so I'm certain that you will be ignored.
Also DaneLover,
For the sake of clairty, I do not speak for Tyler or Newsvine. My comments are my own.
might help if Dane were to look up the definition of the word "Faux". My guess Dane is thinking other than the actual meaning of the word. Despicable seems a little harsh.
You have to be kidding me. Maddow is NOT a journalist.
The last time we saw her on the tube, Meghan McCain was her guest.
Gee, some probing journalist that Maddow is.
Perhaps they'll stop calling it Faux News when you stop calling President Obama "Barry the clown":
http://politics.newsvine.com/_news/2010/10/28/5365591-obama-light-on-jokes-heavy-on-policy-on-daily-show?commentId=18845473#c18845473
Let the fairness begin. You first? : )
Fair and Balanced you say? Surely you jest. :-)
To Fed Up
Your commentary is priceless!
Maybe I should have some cheese with some some of my "wine".. nothing like counting the errors in people's posts to keep yourself entertained
Cheese with wine...how original!
tea-bag-not said, "Go whine somewhere else!....to bad!!..MSNBC knows that keith is their no.1 commentater on the air...It was us!! The people that brought pressure on phil griffin & the powers that be at MSNBC to bring back keith!!WE WILL NOT BE SILENT!!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are absolutely right. :-)
Don't be stupid all your life...ok?
Whens the last time anybody saw a conservative on MSNBC....not exactly fair and balanced.
Steve: if you really thing Fox is "fair and balanced" you probably also beleave in the Easter Bunny.
Ler's get it right in 2010 and 2012? - why you never got it right before - hey Sarge don't break the mold we're used to you getting it wrong
So evidently I wasn't the only one that sent a profanity filled email to MSNBC demanding the Keith Olbermann be reinstated immediately......lol
He got a nice vacation and MSNBC got tons of publicity out of it.(if it were any other station ,someone would've got fired)
What about the Easter Bunny?
"He got a nice vacation and MSNBC got tons of publicity out of it.(if it were any other station ,someone would've got fired)"
Except Fox. There they would either give you a raise or your own show.
About as many liberals as your see on Fox. Pat Buchanon and Joe Scarborough to start...
Indefinite: "an unknown or uncertain".
But I'm sure that won't stop Right-Wingers from denouncing the credibility of this uploader.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gh6r5ALVMo&p=814374ED833C9047&feature=BF&index=1
Over 290,000 signatures, countless emails, and phone calls to Griffin brought KO back. YAY~
"290,000" sounds about right, that would be all his watchers!
Considering he's an American citizen, that doesn't make sense. Typical lame, nonsensical "jokes" from the right.
Peter North - not only signatures to Griffin - how about the sponsors? Money Talks
3.2, 3.4 deleted, Jim-2346602 and JM, Tampa, FL derailing about Olbermann being deported and flaming, respectively. Cut it out. Post on-topic.
To its borken (sp?)
Who cares? I mean who really watches the moron!
Nice skipz. I'm glad you know my "people". You sound like a racist!
If his IQ is that high he should have known better about violating his work contract. He is a jerk like all the other biased on air personalities.
250,000 people who are smarter than you.
Fights: Watch him. Give it a try, and make sure you have your dictionary handy.
Response to who watches him --- Intelligent Republicans and Democrats watch him. The truth is unavailable on the Fox Channel.
I didn't know Olberman had so many conservative viewers!
excuse me we are talking about Keith Olberman not Glenn Beck!
Fights said, "Who cares? I mean who really watches the moron!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s obvious you and the Republicans/Tea Partiers who agreed with your comment certainly cared enough to read this article and post stupid negative untrue comments.
Olbermann a 150 IQ? Are you kidding me? No, sports trivia doesn't go into an IQ measurement. The only thing that makes me think he is a bit intelligent is that he just doesn't seem to understand how to get along with people not wired like he is.
Its,
Do you?
Jim:
There is something very strange about what transpired between Griffin and Olbermann. Everyone who thinks their signatures counted, might be in denial.
Did you all read the first comments re: Olbermann---definitely a dud in a weak seat. The only news this guys spews is hatred. Hope he treats others with respect, when outside of the media light.
Is his job an ACT?
Was he offered a bigger position at Fox News?
I care, and so do an additional 249,000 other people that took the time to sign the petition.
Give me a break.
Be real everyone..the only people who spew hate is Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. I was one of over 250,000 that signed that petition...and I am grateful that Keith will be on....he was a loud voice for the change of healthcare in this country
then why post? You can't find one meaningful thing onthe internet that you DO care about to go spend your time with?
Well, those whose mental capaciities are no higher than George W. Bush and those of you who think that Sarah Palin is brighter than a rock agree with you, but those who favor democracy and read books on economics, history and philosophy think your statement is the dumbest thing we ever heard in our lives.
Fights, all the unbiased, fair and balanced liberals listen to him.
Obviously Lance, there are a few of us left who haven't had our brains eaten out by FOX.........like you.
Is it obvious you don't have the intelligence to understand what he is saying, just like your negative supporters. BICKER, DIMWITTY, LUSH LIMPBALLS and O'REALLY have you in their herd.
Can you spell Leming?
Welcome back Keith --
Who watches?
Over 1 million a night. (Nielson ratings.)
WELCOME BACK KIETH OLBERMAN.................
Welcome back Keith Olbermann. We missed you.
MSNBC is still around? WOW! I think like 5 people are still tuning in...........good for them!
That's hysterical.
Micky...go to MS Internet Explorer and click on Sports link...FOX sports shows up...MS, NBC, and FOX all are in collusion to destro Amerca!a
Now don"t go exaggerating their audience!!
Hard to ignore the fact that you couldn't dispute my point, only my spelling.
six Idiot!
The only way MSNBC makes news is by inhouse hypocrisy?
Now that's entertainment...and exactly who is this Rachel Maddow guy?
Hopefully this is the new Keith.
yep yep hurray!!! i had a dream i was watching fox i woke up suddenly and realized it was a nightmare! come back Keith come back!!!
Tuesday can't be soon enough, but I'll take it! Welcome back, Keith!
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/countdown-with-keith-olbermann/805561/
Ben Afleck plays Keith to a T.
Best posting here!
Keith, you are loved. Welcome back. Welcome to My home!!!
I was so worried...and on top of the crazy Tuesday!
Can't win, change the rules....gotchya
The biggest blow to campaign finance reform was Obama rejecting public financing to gain a $400 million advantage from undocumented prepaid credit cards.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it awhile.
Gee Stacy. Before he became a "pundit", Limbaugh worked as a publicist for the Kansas City Royals.
I didn't watch the socialist piece of crap before and I will not now. Meh...Perhaps Madcow would take a extended vacation as well and I won't watch her liberal insipid rainbow azz after she gets back either.
LOL, you have never watched Rachel...NO ONE would call Rachel insipid who ever watched her show or maybe you don't understand the word?
Most likely choice.....
Yet you're wasting time posting on a left-leaning forum. That makes sense.
I would really like to know your contributions to our democracy and your accomplishments in life.
So why are you posting about Keith, again? Shouldn't you be on Fox online? I see a lot of Keith O bashers on here, he must be doing something right...ha!
Andy; if you do not watch MSNBC and have no intention to in the future -- you "boycott' is meaningless -- I am sure you will be missed (NOT) --
Dang a dang Andy, please don't throw words like socialism around, as though you knew what it means- according to fox and limpbark.
Yeah, ok.... bringing Keith back has NOTHING to do with viewer reaction. LOL, what a joke!
Can't wait for Tuesday and Keith.... and I think this Griffith needs to be suspened without pay forever! Idiot.
Apparently he's too far gone to be saved.
Awesome, Keith! Welcome back to the land of the living! Remind us, please, how overwhelming public support can turn things around...like healthcare, jobs, elections, etc.
Keep reminding us.
We need it.
Will be glad to see Keith back; but, still will not watch MSNBC on Monday.
Welcome back Keith.
Now we need a petition to show how many of us want Phil Griffin to be fired!
Who is Keith Olbermann?
Someone more interesting than you.
A POS in spades
Stacey, son of Peter,
You may know about Keith's past career but you jumped and skipped in someone's career timeline. As a sports commentator he also knows his left foot from his right; as a journalist he is with the very few who holds on to the true american dream with values intact and fiercely guarding them.
An afternoon spent reading just his "special comments" will demonstrate my point to you.
Rachel has it right.
The point is that MSNBC has a policy in place governing how, or if, one of their news people make political donations.
FOX does not; in fact, FOX promotes and endorses and donates money to Republican candidates. "Fair and balance" you say?
Hardly. No, check that...NEVER is FOX "fair and balanced" at no time and in no way.
FOX is an extension of the republican party fund-raising machine.
And conversely MSNBC is not an extension of the democrat party fund-raising machine? They are that different?
its,
Can you document your suggestion that MSNBC is an extension of the Democratic fundraising machine?
Canada - will not allow Fox to use the word "NEWS" since they are not
I've been around since before TV.
For goodness sake get over it.
boo hoo hoo
Amazed,
Duh? DUH? How RUDE.
You think that the fact that Olberman, an individual, gave contributions to a few candidates on his own nickel is evidence that MSNBC is an extension of the
"democrat party" fundraising machine?
The guys named above will bring to the forefront Traditional Oppression in its many forms...racism, classism, adultism---
so in msnbc has a policy in place i get it. but why then did scarboro not get suspended. this has to do with comcast and they are very right leaning. this was BS.
dji
I hear you loud and clear...if you noticed my top post, you saw that I thought the suspension was hypocritical for the very reason you describe about Scarborough.
Msnbc's Joe Scarborough donated to republican candidates but apparently with prior permission from Phil Griffin
Why the Dems wouldn't fight is unrelated to the truth of the charges.
We are all wondering why the Dems won't fight.
This was nothing more than a publicity stunt for that moron. Nobody watched him before and nobody will watch him now.... how pathetic.
Agree or disagree with him, calling him a "moron" is, well, moronic.
Intimidated by educated intelligence? How pathetic is that?
RiverRat.....is a River Rat!
yeah, he reports all of those FACTS and stuff.
I am sick and tired of people calling other people "moron" (or "moran") because they have a different opinion. What is wrong with you? Intelligent, thoughtful people can disagree. That is America. Everyone has a right to their opinion and there is NOT ONE WAY to view our politics. Live with it and stop demonizing those who have a different point of view.
now now... shamwow is having a little jealous moment. give him time to get over it.
NHL
Your right, Intelligent, thoughtful people can disagree and get along. Keys words:
Intelligent and Thoughtful. It is the rest that resort to name calling and what not.
No, we don't.
No, it's not.
No, that's not either. Rush makes it easy. 9 of 10 parrots agree.
You are sadly confused. Did you forget to take your medication? It is Fox news viewers who are blinded from reality, living in the lala land created by the likes of Glen Beck.
"Blinding yourself from reality is hard work!"
No doubt that is your perspective...considering how much hard work Faux News expends in keeping people like you as far from reality as possible.
That's FOX Spews; where our new motto is, "It's Not a Lie, If You Believe It."
What a crock! He violates journalistic ethics and he's back in two days. Clearly MSNBC has no spine. Most companies would fire him for that. Time to stop watching MSNBC.
You mean how the entirety of Fox's network donates money, violating journalistic ethics and are never suspended at all?
Time for you to end your vine on MSNBC & head over to your MASTER...fix(rnc)noise!!..sheese...haters....
And Fox has no scruples.
Do you watch FOX news?.
They would have to have "watchers" in order for them to have watchers to not watch.
Publicity stunt at best!
Which is why we all feel so sorry for you, punkin...
Who are you kidding? You never did watch MSNBC. You are just some idiot on here to aggravate people who do watch.
"lose" ------not "loose"!! If you want to make an intelligent comment, know the difference between these two words! Good idea, quit watching TV, you may want to pick up a book from time to time.
Best mouthpiece? Ah yes, his name is Keith Olbermouth.
hm.minn50: If you have the audacity to correct one's grammar, punctuation, and spelling, please USE correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thank you.
Glen: Excellent post!
mucho mas: hm.minn50: If you have the audacity to correct one's grammar, punctuation, and spelling, please USE correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thank you.
Same goes for you, MM. Twice you used a comma improperly in that post (before the word and). So please -- don't hand out grammar and punctuation criticism to people when you can't do it properly yourself. Thanks!
Meanwhile, back to your right-wing bible-home-schooling...
Sorry Phyllis-2480124. Mucho Mas is correct to use a comma before the word and. Comma or no comma, either way is acceptable.
Amazed,
I have also been taught that either is correct -- but then I went to school in Massachusetts.
Hey smarter or less smarter. Click on the shortcut and see how wrong you are!! Fox is beating all the other cable networks by quite a bit.
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/11/04/cable-news-ratings-for-wednesday-november-3-2010/70891
John Stewart and the best F#%$@ing news crew on the Daily Show had the best election coverage.
I'll wager you really mean Jon Stewart. Also wager you watch Glenn Beck
I can't wait until Tuesday. I am sooo happy. Thank you NBC letting Keith back on Countdown. I truly appreciate that you listened to Keith's fan's.
So your his only fan..............that's nice!
