Repeal The health care bill along with Obama. Both are becoming more of a nightmare as the truth is being told. Words will change the world, Obama's actions have changed the words. What a bag of empty campaign promises.
Repeal Repeal Repeal. 2012 is coming fast. I hope the house can keep him at bay until we can finish the job we started in 2010.....
I'd like to see the President make a strong case for the truth.
Most Americans wrongly believe that health care reform will increase the federal deficit, when the opposite is true;
Most Americans wrongly believe that the stimulus package had little or no affect on joblessness in the US, when the opposite is true;
Most Americans believe that TARP was created by Obama and that it will cost their grandchildren $700 billion dollars, when TARP was born of the Bush Administration backed by Obama on the condition that assistance be in the form of loans and that 90% of the loans have already been paid back;
What makes you actually think that health care reform, as it is today, will not increase the debt? Are you basing this on the numbers given by the CBO? That would be the same CBO that said Medicare Part D would only cost aroung $400 billion by 2013. Well, it is way over that number.
CBO, crap in Crap out. This Health Care bill is so riddled with loopholes, the only one paying will be the middleclass, Just another Tax and spend money pit. Can not wait for 2012.
In order to make Obamacare numbers work they had to:
Steal $500,000,000 from Medicare. They knew full well nobody will vote to cut that in the end.
Tax ten years to pay for six years of care. What happens in yr 11-20, do we drop care for another four years?
Project outrageous growth, when GDP is actually half what they gave the CBO.
Break out a half billion dollar "doc fix" bill separately to reimburse doctors. That should have been part of the bill but the numbers wouldn't add up even with the above cheats so it was split out.
Add to that huge expenses for small business if they get up to 50 employee's. How's that for a job killer?
Big companies asking for and getting waivers all over the place.
A 40% tax on new medical equipment. Now that ought to spur innovation, NOT!
A 3.5% tax on home sales. What the hell do home sales have to do with medical care?
Finally, 30,000,000 new patients combined with no new doctors or nurses will NOT improve care, just the opposite.
Bottom line, if we pay for those 30 million anyway via emergency rooms then we don't need Obamacare. If the choice is paying for 30 million or 30 million and 109 new bureaucracies, only an idiot would choose the latter.
Don't forget the upcoming tax on "Cadillac" plans. "If you like your plan now, you will be able to keep it"...until we tax it so much that your employer will drop it and you won't have that choice anymore....unless you work for a union because we won't apply the tax to them right away.
As Paul Harvey used to say...And now for the rest of the story.
Just to summarize the essence of every republican comment I've seen on here so far...
Obama bad. We smash him. Rich people good. We hug them.
I swear to God you guys are just drones being fed talking points to prop up your fear and complete ignorance of anything besides lighting torches and mob mentality.
Phil - who cares if the 3.5% tax on home sales has anything to do with health care? What I really want to know is how that additional tax is going to help the housing market recover?
commonsence: You really believe the stuff they pump at you. The health care cost are going up everytime it comes out. Latest #s show it will cost, not save money. How can adding 30 million people onto the ins companies backs save money. Most people that choose to currently not have ins, are not going to change their Doc visit habits. You will still see them at the ER for flu shots etc.... that Health care bill has so many loopholes in it nobody will pay but the middleclass. Cost, Cost to who??????????????
The stimulus was nothing more than another bail out, a bail out to those who supported Obama.
Tarp just another word for short term loans/stimulus, put out by Bush with Obama's blessing.
Please before you spew that crap, check your facts.............
Part of the health-care bill have stricter provisions for clamping down on Medicare fraud. The feds have recovered 4 billion so far.Just one small piece of the puzzle.
So how you like them apples now teapublicans?
Seems your entire fight against this bill has been an entire waist of time, not to mention a fraud upon the American people.
valhalla where did you get that info. I am not doubting it, I would like to read thru it. The HC Money pit, Just another distortion pumped out by the white house.
No wonder they did not want anybody to read it. What a sham the people of this nation had pulled on them.
It's really funny how the GOP is dismissing the CBO's assessment that the health care reform will save $230 billion over the next 10 years. They didn't feel so negative about the CBO's assessments under the SAME DIRECTOR 2 years ago:
Senator John Coryn:
"God Bless Dr. Elmendorf For His Integrity And Commitment To Tell The Truth.""I believe the professionals at the Congressional Budget Office are doing a very difficult but unpopular work. They are speaking the truth to power here in Washington and making the folks who would pass these enormous unfunded bills that impose this huge debt on generations hereafter somewhat unhappy. But I think they are doing an important service by telling us the facts. Last week I commended the Director of the CBO, Dr. Doug Elmendorf, for saying that CBO will 'never adjust our views to make people happy.' God bless Dr. Elmendorf for his integrity and commitment to telling the truth. We need to learn how to deal with the truth, not try to remake it or cover it up."[Congressional Record, 6/22/09]
Yes, God Bless Dr. Elmendorf for his integrity and commitment to tell the truth. Always.
CBO is crop in crap out. I have not believe them for many many years.
The current Health Care bill is a money pit. It will rape the middle class, yet again, and it provides loop holes for the obama network of buddies. It has no teeth to prevent Illegals from robbing it blind, No tort reform, no guarantee that the care will not spiral downward. Just to name a few things, Did you know it taxes home sale at 3.5%. Not sure how they are related other than a tax to help pay for it. Every time I hear #s about this bill they grow and the last I heard it is now costing us. Shameful on the part of our politicians. I now know why they did not want anybody to read it. Just sign it and trust us really it is a good thing, we can always fix it later. Well the joke is on us. We believed them again.
obamacare is doomed....the requirement to force someone to buy insurance is unconstitutional...they would have to force everyone, whether they own an automobile or not to buy auto insurance. Because someday they may buy one and get in an accident. They would have to force everyone to buy home insurance. Because someday you may buy a home and have a claim due to fire, flood, accidents, etc. Forcing a person to buy health insurance because someday they may get sick is seriously flawed logic, and unconstitutional. The Supreme Court will end obamacare!!
The supream court needs to be ridiculed for that American united decision. Might as well hand the banks the vote for anything they want. After that decision I don't recognize any corporate charter. Any corporation wrongs you you go right to the top and tell them they owe you. The supreams are nothing but facists. They are bringing down America.
Everything the government touches or attempts to regulate turns into a giant turd. The more they regulate or the larger the program, the bigger the turd. The latest turd is the billion dollar virtual fence along the border. Good thing they didn't make it longer.
There's no point in trying to convince the liberals that their healthcare bill is going to do anything but shower us with gold and make us all live to be 100. Your average liberal has no concept of what it means to run a business. If you tell them that the government doesn't give you anything that they didn't take away first, they look at you like you are some kind of strange animal.
I do not need to watch the speech to know that Barry is lying. I only need to see that his lips are moving. Anyone who believes the BS that will be transmitted across the airwaves tonight is either working for Barry or taking up residence on Mars. So why waste our time?
Valhalla Phil: You left out the mandate. Everyone has to buy an "I love Obamacare T-shirt" or be fined, possibly jailed by the IRS (The new Osama Obama Healthcare Gestopo.)
Specifically, he will focus on improving the education, innovation and infrastructure of the United States as the way to provide a sounder economic base. He will pair that with calls to reduce the government's debt — now topping $14 trillion — and reform government. Those five areas will frame the speech, with sprinklings of fresh proposals.
Yep, more spending for the same old things, education (again, and again, and again) and innovation and infrastructure (yep, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Stimulus programs must have worked.....especially for GE), yet reduce the "government's debt" while "sprinkling" his agenda with new Socialist programs.
Right....reduce the debt....doesn't pan out too well since the Progressives want to increase the debt limit ceiling once again.
And "reform government" ? I thought Mr. Obama has already done that since his Czars are making policy decisions without Congressional approval. "Reform government" by eliminating all Czars and their staffs, merge duplicate agencies, eliminate poor performing agencies (Freddie and Fannie), identify and curtail Fraud-Waste-Abuse, and cut back ALL government employees.
Bottom line: ACTION.....NOT JUST WORDS to try and get a place in history along with FDR.
Seriously? The Government had to pass a huge health care bill to crack down on fraud? Did you really type that?
Sounds like a threat. Well, skip sounds like - it IS a threat. What happened to his touchy feeley political opportunism when Gabrielle went down?
My how times change. But in Obama's case, How they remain the same.
His way or the highway is what he is saying and when someone in his position says it, it usually bodes poorly for anyone with enough guts to question his stance, his motives, his goals.
Healthcare for the poorest, sure.
INSURANCE? The goal of insurance companies is to deny you benefits on any pretext they can cook up. Schemes. Contrivances, and Denials. That is what insurance companies are made of.
And if Obama will not find a way to TRULY give healthcare to the poorest rather than another blanketyGreenspanblanketymortgageblankblank - he is in the pocket of these lizards and whores who run insurance companies.
Bring it on dude. Back up what you say you care for the poor or be the whoremonger for the rich. Either way, your deeds will tell.
Healthcare - yes.
Indulgent benefits, yachts, prostitutes, villas on private islands, degradation beyond belief for INSURANCE COMPANY EXECUTIVES and their shareholders?
I'm with President Obama--the majority elected him. I think it's high time that every single person gives. We're aren't so dumb that we didn't know they we had serious debt problems, as a country, decades ago. Until you dismantle the Military Industrial Complex we will continue to be plagued.
Take from me before you take a teacher's job. Take from me before you allow states to chop the pensions of those who cannot live without them. Take from me, but spend my money wisely. Worry a little less about trading that 2009 for a 2011 and help your neighbor.
It seems that the guy who doesn't get it is you and many other posters on here. The Guy, as you call him, has limited input in the budget (as many of you rethuglicants kept saying when bush was President). Congress then passes the bills and the President can veto or sign. President Clinton was given a line item veto. However, a group in NY, backed by a group of rethuglicant lawmakers, challenged that and the courts sided with them.
The problem is our form of government. There are 535 members of Congress, each representing a district or state. They, supposedly, act on what is best for that district or state. Therefore there are 535 different agendas in Congress. Unfortunately, too many members of Congress have sold themselves to the highest bidder. How many Congressional members are going to be willing to cut spending at Dept of Defense? How many will be willing to cut Social Security? If the past is any indication, the answer is very few. Everybody wants the debt lowered but everybody also wants everyone else to make the sacrifice. They don't really want to do it. Want an example? Just last month with the bush tax cuts. Sure didn't hear an of the angry voters complaining them, did you?
The total number of years that Democrats have controlled the U.S. House of Representative - 44 years
The total number of years that Republicans have controlled the U.S. House of Representatives - 12 year
The total number of years that Democrats have controlled the U.S. Senate - 38 years The total number of years that Republicans have controlled the U.S. Senate - 18 years
Control of the Presidency by Party:
Truman (D) 1945-1953 Esienhower (R) 1953-1961 Kennedy (D) 1961-1963 Johnson (D) 1963-1969 Nixon (R) 1969-1974 Ford (R) 1974-1977 Carter (D) 1977-1981 Reagan (R) 1081-1989 Bush (R) 1989-1993 Clinton (D) 1993-2001 Bush (R) 2001-2008 Obama (D) 2008 - Present
Democrats controlled the Presidency 30 years Republicans controlled the Presidency 39 years
This clearly illustrates that the everyday, average, American identifies more closely with Democrat Policy than they do with Republican Policy. Before you decide to inform me of the fact that Republicans have controlled the Presidency for approximately 40 years...Presidents to not make policy!
Sputnik????? Hardly !!!! Lets just tell it like it is. The brother from another mother will read another well witten speech. More three word sentences with empty applause. But tomorrow, that is all it will have been.
Bla, Bla, Bla, like he is going to tell the truth? We're screwed. 14 Trillion in debt. My God left or right it doesn't matter now. Will someone in Congress please get a clue, PLEASE....
IDO...I agree for the most part...except ALL govt employees. You are so very wrong on that part. There are several reasons for that. Fist, you need to look at employees at each agency. You do not want to cut employees at agencies that function well for the most part and are staffed correctly for the mission they must perform. Cutting in some areas will hurt this country. You must be smart about it and trim fat where there is fat, not just cut and toss away some good meat along with it, in the end, you will be sorry you did. Also, just cutting employees is really bad for the economy. You people seem hell bent on blaming the federal employees for the unbalanced budget. You are dead wrong. The employee salary is a small part of the budget. Trim the pork. Trim welfare for those that do not contribute to our society. Welfare is a HUGE amount that could be cut back. Regulate how the poor spend their govt assistance. If you cut the employees, you will just be adding to the unemployment problem. So now those people, that were paying bills, buying goods and services, will no longer be able to. They will loose their homes and local economies WILL suffer, much more then you think. Most of what the federal employees make IS spent locally, thus helping people like you, not hurting. Not only that, but most of the Federal Employees are tax payers, probably unlike most of the people complaining about them. I bet most pay more in tax then you. At least the country gets something in return for the money spent on the employees. What have you contributed to this country except being a loud mouth?
You people say the exact same stuff every single DAY. Yeah, I know Rush is great if you like Kool-Aid. And you are beginning to sound like the same person. THE SAME person. And yet you vehimently deny that you are drones..... maybe you are the ones who have been drinking the Kool-Aid all along.
"At "our generation's Sputnik moment ... we will move forward together or not at all," the president will say, recalling the massive U.S. mobilization of money and resources to catch the Soviet Union"
Our money and resources were spent on Wall Street, Unions, GM, Freddi and Fannie, and Obamacare.... we have nothing left to oppose a real "Sputnik moment"
P.S.
Does Obama not even recall that he cut NASA's funding? What a fool.
Must the Grim Weeper weep at even the vaguest mention of sweeping barroom floors? For god's sake, I did that, too, at the beginning of my career. It isn't the most pleasant of memories, but I can recall it without suffering an emotional breakdown.
OMG: Great fricking job Barry. We're only 4 trillion more in debt since you have been President. Good lord please stop the spending, please. What is wrong with you people in Washington.
FromChicago: I hope he's drunk, I sure as hell would be having to listen to that BS.
The release of some 1,700 secret documents has exposed the so-called peace process as a criminal farce, part of a permanent US-Israeli conspiracy against the basic rights of the Palestinian people.
The papers, which consist of minutes of negotiating sessions, diplomatic correspondence, memos, maps and other materials dating from 1999 to 2010, were obtained by the Al Jazeera television network. They present a devastating portrait of all sides engaged in the last decade of US-brokered Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) of Mahmoud Abbas is exposed as wholly subservient to US and Israeli interests. It is desperate to salvage an agreement that will secure it the fiction of a Palestinian state at the expense of every historic aspiration of the Palestinian people, which it represses and lies to in a bid to cement the privileges of a small wealthy layer.
To this end, as the documents make clear, the PA’s negotiators were prepared to accept the devouring of East Jerusalem by Zionist settlements, repudiate the right of exiled Palestinians to return to their land, and participate in mass transfers of Arab populations, a form of ethnic cleansing designed to meet Israel’s goal of a demographically secure “Jewish state.” All of this was done behind the backs of the Palestinian people.
For their part, the Israelis emerge as ruthless and brutal in their determination to suppress the Palestinians and expropriate every possible inch of their land. Absolutely uninterested in reaching any agreement, they utilize the negotiations to extract ever greater concessions from their pliant Palestinian counterparts, while establishing new “facts on the ground” in terms of ever-mushrooming Zionist settlements in the occupied territories.
As for Washington, under Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama alike, US diplomacy assumes a criminal character in relation to the Palestinian question, just as it does throughout the Middle East. Negotiators routinely side with Israel on all substantive issues, while treating the Palestinians with unconcealed contempt. Any attempt by the latter to raise basic issues of international law or even previous commitments made and unceremoniously broken are dismissed as “unrealistic” and foolish.
The arrogance and hostility with which imperialism treats not only the Palestinians but every oppressed people and the working class all over the world was summed up in a remark by then-US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and recorded in one of the transcripts. Dismissing claims on behalf of the millions of Palestinians condemned to exile, statelessness and bare subsistence in squalid refugee camps, Rice commented, “Bad things happen to people all around the world all the time. You need to look forward.”
The continuity of this vicious attitude toward the plight of the Palestinians was made clear by Rice’s successor, Hillary Clinton, who is recorded in a transcript from the fall of 2009 as demanding to know why Palestinians acted as if they were “always in a chapter of a Greek tragedy.”...
....As for the Israeli side, the documents quote then-Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in a 2007 meeting providing a remarkably frank description of Tel Aviv’s negotiating strategy, which has been guided by a determination to prevent any possibility of a viable Palestinian state. “The Israel policy is to take more and more land day after day and that at the end of the day we'll say that is impossible, we already have the land and we cannot create the [Palestinian] state,” she said...
The Palestinians have nothing to offer the world, so our not-so-covert preference towards the Israelis, who have built very active tech and bio-tech industries despite their less-than-ideal geo-political positioning, is more than justified.
Of course, you might claim this is all part of the Zionist conspiracy. If it is, I'd still prefer their conspiracy over the competing Arab-Muslim conspiracy, which spreads nothing but 12th century superstition and barbarism everywhere it goes.
If the Palestinians want help, let their ideological brethren provide it. As of now, the Muslim world simply uses these poor wretches as a fulcrum to leverage hatred against a productive and advanced Israeli society, and sympathy towards a primitive, mindless and bloodthirsty horde.
President Bush and his budget analysts estimated the Iraq and Afghanistan wars would cost the country $50 to $60 billion. Nearly ten years later, the war has cost us 6000 plus American lives at the the or more than $3 trillion.
The costs of making the tax cuts permanent for everyone in the U.S. is more than $3.7 trillion over 10 years.
More than $3 trillion accounts for the cost of extending tax cuts for the vast majority of Americans. $700 billion will go to extending tax cuts for the top 2% of highest earners in the country.
President Bush and Secretary Paulson created and outlined the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) almost $1 trillion. Obama utilized $350 billion of this programs money when he began office...BUT THIS IS CLEARLY A BUSH / REPUBLICAN PLAN...with no return on investment!
So President Bush has created an environment where $7.7 trillion would be added to the federal deficit. Compared to Obama's health care plan which may or may not add to the deficit to the tune of $3 trillion, this is nothing...especially when you consider that this country's annual GDP is $14.5 trillion (THAT MEANS A YEAR!) Now you must have read where I said may or may not...well that's because the entire health care plan has not gone into effect yet. The health care plan is phased in over several years...taking into account changes in economy and other factors. What means to you...my fellow voter...is that you have not seen the impact of this new bill yet and may not see it for another year or more...should anything actually happen that is.
i love how the sheeple follow there leader. for the first time in american history we dont have a president, we have an immigrant from kenya whose name is barry, who is muslim and a communist. our forefathers are turning over in there graves now. i follow no man, only the rules of god. mans rules are corrupt.
Bush set up payment of $340 billion to AIG, Bank of America and Merryl and Obama signed the stimulus to enact his control over the money. This was done at Obama's request.
The Gov. has said that they have made money off of TARP in collection with interest.
Even as a Republican you have to admit that the bailout was necessary. There are already meetings between Countries that we are not involved in discussing removing the US Dollar as the reserve currency. This would shake up this Country as we could not just print money to live our lifestyles any longer.
And the Obama health care will cost this Country alot of money. And to those that look to other Countries that have Gov. control of health care you need to look at the income tax rates in those Countries. And the ones that are going belly-up.
But in the end this speech was just a bunch of generalizations and no specific plan. Just we must work together and that was about it. What is he cutting? What is he specifically doing? More B.S. but the guy can talk.
To Caradjt..you are stretching the truth quite a bit. That 3.5% sales tax...actually its 3.8%...on any profit over $250 000 on selling a house. $500 000 if you are married....plus you have to be making over $200 000 anually in income already. Why didn't you state those FACTS. Essentially it would have no impact on the vast majority of Americans whatsoever, but keep on playing fast and lose with your B.S.
Oh..and you really think people will still use the emergency rooms because of habit?
Thanks for pointing out that dems have controlled congress much longer than the reps...just proves we have a lot of ignorant voters in this country. Oh, and may I add...the country is much more f'ed up now than it was 40-50 years ago. I suppose I should thank you democrats!? (sarcasm intended)
ArchStanton, A very articulate and well written post. There is far too much Zionist influence in American politics, which does not foster amity with Palestine. Israel hasn't the the legal or moral right to be constructing even a pop stand on that land. As long as they persist there will be no peace in the region, and the U.S. needs to butt out.
I think I threw up in my mouth when this puppet was speaking. At least bush entertained us with his word creation skills. Soetero should have just come out and said:
I don't have a Hawaiin birth certificate
I am going to take all your money and give it to the private federal reserve banking cartel
I have no interest in stopping the illegal war in the middle east
Whoever doesnt agree with me is a terrorist and the DHS will be paying you a visit soon
Wall street pulls my puppet strings and I dont care what the people want
I am no different than any of the presidents that preceeded me dating back to lyndon b
Hahaha, you fools are blinded by the hope I sold you and have done the exact opposite of everything i said during my campaign. You Americans can put a giraffe in the white house in 2012 and nothing will change. Im going to go laugh myself to sleep.
Lame speech, same old platitudes. Demonized some American industries, did not demonize any Chinese industries. Will make all sorts of neato investments while magically cutting the budget. Will promise the GOP AGAIN to put tort reform into Obamacare, then AGAIN not do it. He is like that, promises mean nothing. Most people call that lying, liberals call that talking. He is no leader and has proven that these past 2 plus years. Too predictable. No substance
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
caradjt you are correct, not once was guarantee mentioned, I think it was a "Not just no, but hell no!" to one of those.
All politics aside, with an 85% success rate from the past year, should the next year be nearly as successful, his agenda would put us on track with renewable energy and divert us away from foreign oil. There were topics that pleased both sides of the isle.
Democrats and republicans will have to work together to get anything they want passed. I'm thinking it will be trade offs like deficit reduction for technology, etc. That way, half the left is happy, half the right is happy. I, like you, am never 100% happy with a POTUS but something beats nothing for all of us.
Who knows, maybe there will be a big comeback for moderate politicians.
Please tell me something. How can the US out-innovate China when their workers ake about 230 US dollars a month? Do we out-innovate by dropping our wages to their levels? Design new products? Sure, but China is going to manufacture them anyways. Of course also they don't care about intellectual properties and will steal and counterfeit anything that is popular with disregard of patents.
Please tell me how do we out-innovate the rest of the world when a few are not playing by the rules?
What I saw was bussiness as usual in the days ahead. When ever cutting or taking away tax breaks and subsities to oil companies, the wealthy and big bussiness in general the room was silent. When Obama said he wanted to freeze spending for 5 years you they sucked the air out of the room in panic.
Increase research and development. Massive increase in infrasructure improvements and other things proposed will cost money. I see nothing changing to slow the debt growth. the focus has been to save the big banks and Obama has placed so many wallstreet people in his cabinet that big bussiness now has more leverage than ever before. For anyone to say President Obama and the Democratic party aren't in bed with wallstreet and big bussiness is pretty blind thinking. Those of us who are/were middle class are out of the loop. We will never be able to have a comfortable lifestyle again in our lifetime. I see the whole economy failing in the next couple of years. I didn't have nearly as far to fall to reach bottom as those who caused me to be there. They will suffer much more than I. Those of us who have lived on little al of our lives will survive.
The bright thing for me during the speech was watching the people on the floor as they reacted to things Obama said. On many issues they looked to the left and right to see if it was ok to stand and applaude or not. It was amusing to watch them ALL force a standing ovation for things they knew full well they would not support. The telling sign was the delay in reaction until they remembered they were on camera.
Odd that when we needed change and jobs, the better part if not MORE than the first year of office was spent with supposed 'health care reform (certainly not the correct term)' and NOT on jobs and economy.
Odd that now things have gotten shaken up a bit, jobs and economy, years later, is becoming an 'issue' and needs to be worked on....
it's actually, they're... not their. their is a possessive like, their dog or their cat. what you wanted to say is they're, like they are. they are sitting. god, this country is so dumb.
Someone please explain to me how the deficit is a "job-crusher" as the Tea Party claims. Seriously? The deficit crushes jobs? How exactly does it do that?
Now he wants us to believe in just a matter of weeks, he has changed his beliefs, his personal views, his political views and his agenda. This was just a repeat of his inaugural address whit a twist on words like "stimulus" is now "investment" and his 'WE Won" attitude. The public is now watching Obama's every move and we plan to stay on him like stink on a skunk until he is replaced in 2012.
Perhaps the one area that I felt wasn't politics as usual was the call to consolidate units within government. There so much waste and over regulation going on by having several different branches in charge of the same thing. This I believe is one of the major problems we have in allowing business to operate.
Avenger that is so true, they have Department after Department doing the same jobs. When he said invest in Green Energy Jobs to me that equals General Electrics CEO Jeffrey Immelt getting the contracts and outsourcing them to foreign Countries. Just another line that's really won't help the little guy.
Interesting that Obama calls for spending restraint but to no ones surprise no mention of any huge spending cuts.
Obama wants to freeze spending at current levels. No surprise there either. He and the democrats increased spending by hundreds of billions of dollars and they don’t want it to stop.
Don’t listen to what this guy says, watch what he does. He’s a snake oil salesman.
It's you and "citizens" like you, who do not take your responsibility to behave with dignity and treat others with dignity who will be the reason that we will not be able to move forward "coooperatively" for the good of the majority of the citizens of our great country ... OR, maybe, the rest of us will work cooperatively with each other and move forward for the benefit of the majority in spite of you and others like you! Thank you President Obama for your past efforts on behalf of the middle class and poor of our great country and thank you too for not giving up and continuing to work tirelessly for all of us!
It is never logical that paying for more people to be on medicare will cost less. The fact is this will do nothing but dilute medicare for the elderly. Why would I want a health care system that has failed world wide? HC has never done anything but give people lesser care for more money consecutively.
In England they have to import lesser quality doctors who are woefully less educated then the criteria for the English doctors education and this is the rule for free health care you get less quality and the price never goes down. Why dont you folks just go to oregon or europe or what ever nation is to your likeing?
The European economy has suffered greatly over these welfare programs. We are finically in that position without doing one more single thing to extort this nation out of money this nation don't have.
It is so ironic the rest of the world is struggling to rid themselves of the programs the liberals insist we need even though we the people have clearly said NO!
It is all lies and half truths as to its affordability.
What day has the government ever run anything sucessfully? Never!
I am proud to say the people have wisely spoken but you are not listening.
They will speak again more loudly in 2012.
all i heard obama say last night is spend dont spend spend dont spend.
I never seen such a contradiction over and over again it all sounded so foolish to me and i am sure i am not alone.
This is how the massive overspending of the government slows job creation:
When the government overspends, it has to borrow money. Contrary to popular belief, China does not own all our debt and in fact China only owns about $900 billion of the $14 TRILLION. The vast majority is held by investors in bonds, including potentially YOUR 401k plan or retirement account but also including institutional investors and international investments from other countries, etc etc etc.
All of the debt has interest due on it. Tbills and bonds have been paying relatively low interest rates due to the Fed's easy money policy that has been going on for WAY too long. However, the banks and investors are lending basically risk free to the government - backed by the Fed. For every dollar they lend to the government, that's one dollar less that they're investing in small business and other forms of capital creation - especially since capital requirements were put in place after the crash. That slows growth in the private sector, thus slowing job creation.
The interest itself was nearly half a TRILLION in 2010. The more debt we have the more interest we must pay and while the idea of Americans making money off the interest in the national debt isn't completely abohorrent, far too much of that half trillion is leaving the country. That's tax payer money in a best case scenario, and MORE borrowed money in the worst case.
In addition, while we KNOW that this spending is unsustainable, to cut basically 1/3 of the Federal budget is impossible. Since there are two sides to the balance sheet - revenue and expenditures - and cutting expenditures to current revenue levels is currently impossible, there will PER FORCE be the need to increase revenue - TAXES.
When a company or person - no matter how big or wealthy - expects that they will be required to pay more taxes in either the short or medium term, what do they do? They postpone purchases, they postpone hiring, they postpone all but necessary expenditures, to hedge against future tax increases.
And, there is the last issue of the Federal government encroaching on what used to be largely private sector functions, and picking winners and loosers.
That, in a nutshell, is how massive government overspending - on a long term basis (I'll nod to Keynesian economics on the occasional benefit of SHORT TERM bursts of huge government spending, although it appears to not have done the job this time) kills jobs.
The numbers dont lie, no matter how much the dems try to spin it their way

RealAmericansFirst "It's really funny how the GOP is dismissing the CBO's assessment that the health care reform will save $230 billion over the next 10 years"
Do you mean the same CBO assessment where the CBO was told by the Democrats to "assume" that $500 Billion would be cut from Medicare without affecting the program, and to "assume" that the 'Dr. Fix' costing Medicare another $240 Billion would somehow magically appear and cost nothing?
That already a $740 Billion 'bust' in the CBO figures.
Roy, The CBO told us they can only go by the information and the #'s they were given. They also told the Democrats they were counting the same money being cut from Medicare twice as savings. I would like to see just once they would tell the truth. Obama kills jobs, will cut medical care and cost more. Is that what they call "Obamanomics"????? :)
I find the best way to lead is by example. So, I would suggest to Obama to get rid of all those czars he piled on his administration to start with. Show Congress and the American people how he can re-organize his administration to save money. Show the American people that he can lead by example.
Let's be honest. Barack Obama has strong oratorical skills. He can deliver a speech filled with wonderful platitudes that virtually no one could disagree with.
At the end of the speech, however, Obama still left the elected Senators, House members and the American people with the same EMPTY vagueness of some concept of hope and change. Even my 18 year-old son commented that he was saying almost nothing specific.
Obama used the three I's extensively......Investment, Innovation and Internet and somehow magically pointed to these to the hope for our future. Most realize that "investment" is just another word for spending and that "innovation" is an intangible that cannot be quantified or measured.
To really create JOBS, we must find thousands of little ways, and perhaps some bigger ways, to enable our country to compete in a global economy. We must stimulate MANUFACTURING JOBS in this country again. Perhaps, a minor rollback in the minimum wage for new employees would be a start. Certainly, the onset of Obamacare will not help as it puts more demands on employers.
Obama will just have bills with earmarks deliverd to the Lincoln bedroom to sign. So he can say it did not come to my desk and I am keeping my promise.
Obama will just have bills with earmarks deliverd to the Lincoln bedroom to sign. So he can say it did not come to my desk and I am keeping my promise.
Wanna bet me?
The furniture in the White House belongs to the people of America, not Obama. So technically he could still sign bills and claim they never crossed HIS desk. Like Clinton when he argued the meaning of the word "is".
"The most productive two years that we've had in generations," the president pronounces it. Ha Ha Ha. The depression continues to get worse and he has the gall to pronounce this..... What an ego maniac.....It is just another example of his lies, dilutions and broken campaign promises. Still waiting for the Jobs amoung other things.
I'd like to see independents (and Republicans and Democrats, too) for the repeal of urban myths in politics.
The depression continues to get worse? Where do you get your 'information'? The stupidification of the American public sill sink us faster than anything else if we're not careful.
UE is has gone nowhere but up in 2 years, Home forecloser has followed.
The facts are there, you just have to look. I think I have figured out that blue light thing. It hides the facts and only allows the blue type to be read.......
you guys pull facts from the same place rush and beck do..... WOW I have seen dozens of election cycles in my day, have met many un-informed voters, have seen both sides come up with ridiculous rhetoric....THIS last 2 years has been unbelievable. The hatred is insane, mostly from right.....the stupid birther, muslim, socialist, marxist BS is too much. NO WONDER the world sees us as backwards rednecks....we are!!
You know superlogi, it occurs to me that Capitalism has failed too! Remember the market crash?? Without that bailout your last hero Bush began, Capitalism was collapsing the worlds economy. Remember that? About being ashamed of the Redneck perception of the world. It would be much more practical if the apx. 20% of the country that has inbred to leave, since they are the ones that think their country has been taken from them, by "Barry"Your type say they want the Government out of our business unless it is to ban and restrict the things you believe in like gun laws, gay marriage, etc. You are not likely one of the home of the brave, as you are scared to death of any other race, religion, or gender. That is why your type likes hate radio and hate talk. You actually think that those multi millionairs that spew the hate you love to hear are poor and scared like you. To you I say BOO! Are you still there?
gspot - This hatred started the minute Bush got elected and libs bashed him every chance they got. Now that they have this useless loser in the WH, they can't take it. Well suck it up!!! The right had to put up with it for 8 years. Yes the hatred is growing! Open your eyes, its coming from both sides. If Hussein wanted to show leadership, he should have stopped it as soon as he got elected. Instead, he fueled it and waited until he lost the House. Why don't you speak to some of your liberal buddies and ask them to stop instead of blaming the right?
Bush was arguably the worst president in American history. First he stole the election after losing the popular vote by having the Supreme Court declare him the winner by members of the court his father appointed. It was on his watch that 9/11 took place; it was Bush & the GOP who failed to kill or capture Bin Laden: it was Bush & the GOP who failed to destroy Al Qaida and the Taliban after 8 years of war; It was Bush & the GOP who lied to the entire world about WMDin Iraq; It was Bush & the GOP who failed on the war on terror; It was Bush & the GOP who turned a record Federal surplus into a record deficit by failing to raise taxes to pay for 2 wars. Instead he cut them for the rich. HELLO you have a war you have to raise taxes to pay for it DUH and I have to tell ya I wouldn't surprised me if Bush let Bin Laden get away on purpose to give him an excuse to invade Iraq and create a bogey man to manipulate the public just like in the novel 1984
Wow look at all those new laws, regulations, czars and committees. I'm impressed The Obamanation did a great job growing our government and spending us into oblivion. Too bad it was at the expense of taxpayers, their future generations, and the private sector. Thank god the GOP was able to slow him down some until we can get rid of him in 2012.
You guys know that liberals get confused when they are presented facts, logic, and documentation. I am sure they will come back with some half witted remark about Rush (whom I never listen to) or Glenn Beck (who actually supported Hillary Clinton in 2008) or Bill O'Reilly (who constantly defends Obama).
Thanks for the list RealAmerican, now I know for SURE why this guy needs a boot. More laws, regulations, government offices to pay for, red tape, and dollar after hard earned dollar out of my paycheck.
"Helping Families Save Their Homes Act"???? or "helping deadbeats stay on public assistance" act?? - one in the same. (just to pull one out of the hat)
Not bad ....but only if you define good as losing more freedom, more government interference in your life, more regulation, more debt, more red tape, more lies, more hypocricy and more BS in general.
Really? Did you really just try to tie in fault on Bush for the 9/11 attacks. Oh it was on his watch, he should have foreseen it and changed the airline policies that have been there for years? I hope you aren't that dumb. If that is your true logic then by the same logic i can't believe Obama let that shooting occur on his watch. He should have known better..... oh wait, thats idiotic. Bush couldn't have done anything to prevent it. If that is a mark off of his reputation in your opinion because he was in office when terrorists decided to hijack planes, then you sir, lack the simplest common sense.
As for all of the war stuff, what did you expect? This is a war like no other. There is not standing enemy army to destroy, no obvious enemy location where their leaders are. The enemy is everywhere and nowhere. They are hiding in tunnel networks or even hiding in plain sight as pedestrians. If you have to find a hiding enemy who knows the territory far better than you do, you need a massive force to search many locations at once so that the enemy can't just jump between hiding spots. This country would never have given the soldiers needed to end it quickly. Far more troops were needed than what were over there, but people were already complaining that there were too many there. No president could have ended it within the 8 years, not Washington, not Lincoln, not Grant, not Roosevelt. You obviously have no knowledge of war. wake up and actually look at the facts before accusing him of being a terrible president for things that weren't even close to being his fault
Tim from Eugene has a valid point. Any given government has a life cycle. For every democracy, socialist state, communist state--they all die or morph into a different form.
Is Tyler in time out? These boards are odd. It's a collaborative effort on all sides--collapsing comments all the time. Free speech is a good thing--stop playing with it. No matter what form it takes--as long as it's without threats.
SomeoldFart- I guess the countless memos that Osama Bin Laden was going to try something. The Aviation Security Bill that was presented in August of 2001. That was thrown out by the Republicans!!! Oh and Bush response to the memos "I don't read". Except when our nation was under attack!!! To kindergarten class!!! Oh 9/11 was very preventable. So is the shooting. Are you proposing that we reel in the NRA??
Last years state of the union address, obamma said that his focus would be "jobs, jobs., jobs', but he did nt even attempt to do anything about jobs. All they talked about was the obammacare, which it was clear the majority of the people in this country did not want. He still wants to pass cap and tax, which will cost everyone a lot of money, and who knows where that money would go. He wont do anything to protect our borders. Now all of a sudden, he acts like a centrist, instead of the extremely liberal person that he is. I do not trust anything he says.
This RealAmerican guy left out a lot more programs that passed under his watch.
1 Treat illegals as Americans Act.
2 Keep people in houses they can never afford Act.
3 Tax everyone harder Act.
4 Drive up oil prices Act.
5 Share your wealth Act. Take more from the 53% more to put more on welfare.
6 Drive up health care Act.
I have many more.
My main question is? WHY IS IT EVERYONE ELSE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BAIL OUT SOMEONE OR ANYONE WHO MAKES BAD DECISIONS.
WHEN ARE WE AS A COUNTRY OR AS A CITIZEN GOING TO STAND UP AND SAY ENOUGH. THIS IS MY RESPONSIBILITY NOT THE BANKS, NOT THE GOVERNMENTS, BUT MINE. I DON'T WANT A HANDOUT, I DON'T NEED A HANDOUT. I GOT MYSELF INTO THIS AND BY GOD I WILL GET MYSELF OUT OF IT.
MY GOD PEOPLE WHERE IS YOU SELF RESPECT AND YOUR DIGNITY?
More spending programs and continue with Mr. Obama's GREEN ENERGY programs, but yet cut the deficit. Uhhhhhh, can't spend what you don't have and no one will agree on how to take care of the debt.
What is really scary is when Mr. Obama said he was going to TRANSFORM GOVERNMENT. Transform to WHAT, Mr. Obama ???
Well opsecalpha-- why don't you give us all some links or something to back up your claims regarding those that don't agree with your points get confused with "The Facts" I think that posting links on this sight no longer works BUT I will give you a search title and website that backs up MY position--IE; "liberal"--Do a search for "Federal Deficit History" or look @ "12 trillion dollar republican debt, can it be true?" or anything posted by "Z-Facts"--WARNING--prepare to become confused yourself!!
well said, garcher. I too am tired of paying for the bad decisions and mistakes that people make. If a person cant afford to have children , DONT have them!!! Why should I have to pay for people that make huge mistakes? There are so many people in this country that just dont think that they should have to work. I met a guy the other night , who is on Soc. Sec. Disability , because he has a learning disability, heck , he seemed ok to me. Is there no job he can do? I know people who are truly mentally disabled, and they are at the mall bussing dishes, sweeping floors, etc. they are working, and they are truely disabled. Too many able bodied people want a free ride, and nothing ever changes.
That is a pretty sad list of made up "Acts" that you have there. It would amaze and sadden me if you actually believed any single one of those were true!!
I truly appreciate the blogs of many decrying the spending spree of a single man, the President. I certainly would have looked forward to these same comments when the Bush Administration was doing it, but these same voices where silent.
Honestly, a single man can't spend our nation's economy into oblivion. It does take the help of others. It is depressing to see our deficit so high. But, I can find some comfort in knowing that we were deficit-free at one time in my life... under a different Democratic President. Can anyone tell me if there was a Republican President that elliminated the deficit under thier term in office? Maybe got close? Just cut it in half or so?
Yeah, didn't think so.
So, statisticly, you have a better chance at a Democrat lowering the deficit than a Republican. Same applies to any other domestic issue. Need to kick some tail? Elect a republican. They will kick anyone around, even if they don't deserve it. Need to solve a social issue? Elect a democrat. They'll die trying to solve it... like any Kennedy.
I love the president. He is trying to govern America not just his party. The other side never does that. No is not a solution in my opinion. Before I vote for president next time I will ask myself what each side did to help us out of the worst economic crisis in decades. What they did for America. Obama has done plenty!! Like it or not he has at least tried to do something. The republicans have done nothing. Not one piece of legislation, Not a one!! You could give on any of your demands to get anything done? Wow!! Let me see could Obama give on something he demanded? UHHH wait for it.....Taxcuts for the rich!!!, Freeze gov salaries!!!. Challenge to republicans and tea-party members, name something republicans gave up so America and Americans could benefit
They're claiming only 1,400,000 99'rs have fallen in a black hole, but Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2009 put the number of jobless and homeless at 46,000,000!
They're claiming only 465,000 homeless people in the US, but there are already 11,000,000 empty houses and more than 1,000,000 evictions planned in 2011!
They're claiming private job creation quarter after quarter, but bankruptcies are soaring, and hiring managers report 1,000 resumes for every job!
There are literally 100,000's of jobs going begging at Defense/DHS, which are only open to career government employees with security clearances.
Mil.Gov Mafia ... "It's a great big club, ... and you ain't in it!"
Your list includes bills that were brought up by the Senators and Congressman that every POTUS has and more or less just signs. They were not his agenda and was told by aids which to sign and which to veto.
Every POTUS has this on his agenda and the real agenda for Obama was his health care which he passed at the expense of his parties seats. Which he did publicly apologize to them for.
So please don't count these bills as even his ideas as they are not.
slodon, great post , but you missed a few. Pay for my neighbors college-financial aid(Huge bucks by the way), Pay for my neighbors gigantic tax refund- negative income tax (huge , I know people who make $20.000 a year and receive $10,000 fed tax refund, Yes really they do!) Pay for my neighbors mistakes- welfare. I am sure that there are many other programs, but here are a few more. Many of the people who receive these benefits, truly have more money than a middle income couple who both work full time. I am tired of paying the bills of other able bodied people!
I have heard "smoke and mirrors" before. It was right after his last SOTU address. I suppose stalling 15% of the bills in the senate can give one that impression, but the other 85% that passed definitely reflected his agenda.
1. Help pay for my neighbors house--First Time Home Buyer
2. Help pay for my neighbors new windows--Energy Efficiency Upgrade
3. Help pay for my neighbors new car--Cash for Clunkers
4. Help pay for my neighbors kids lunch--School Lunch Program
5. Help pay for my neighbors energy costs--Low Income energy subsidies
6. Help pay for my neighbors medical care--Medical
7. Help pay for my neighbors food--Food Stamps
8. Help pay for my neighbors mortgage--Mortgage Modification Program
I can't afford this any more!!! My wife and I only make $55,000 per yr!!!
How do I become MY NEIGHBOR????
I blame it solely on the corporations on that one. You know those corporations continue to post record profits but yet pay their workers unlivable wages. So low that they end up qualifying alot of those programs above. Why give these workers healthcare when the government has medicare/medicaid? Who cares if they don't have enough to buy groceries. They have foodstamps, government will pay for it. Guess what? We as taxpayers end up paying for it all while these corporations laugh themselves to the banks. Walmart is one of the biggest offenders.
slodon you also forgot:
Pay for your neighbor's... street, fire, police, red lights and stop signs, hospitals, wars, defense, and all other government programs.
I can only assume you are at the top 2% of the food chain. Everyone else benefits at least from one subsidy or another.
So, when you die, can you leave a few billion to help pay our deficit? You see, our last president put us in pretty poor shape. You remember, the one you supported. Since you helped elect him in, you can help bail us out. It isn't like you could spend it all in your lifetime and you can't take it with you anyway.
I know, you like to think that would be a hand out, you're not big on helping others. But I believe that you are paying for your mistake and you at least owe us that.
Well Boss since he is my neighbor I also benefit from my taxes going for street, fire, police, maintenance and so on. IT'S JUST ALL THE OTHER STUFF I PAY FOR MY NEIGHBOR THAT I DON'T LIKE. And by the way since when is $55000 in the top 2% of wage earners???
The only way to stop the politics is to get NEW LEADERSHIP in the White House. When Obama had a super-majority, he abused it royally while flipping the Republican Party the bird finger.
Now that the Republicans have gained control in the House, and REDUCED his Democratic majority in the Senate......now he's trying desperately to appear to be the president of both parties.
Vincent - yeah, the 9/11 attacks may have been preventable, but the only way to do that would have been to increase airport security to extreme heights, And that would have been practically impossible. Even after the 9/11 attacks people today still complain about every little security measure, and what we hae now still might not have been enough. If he would have even proposed the security needed to stop the 9/11 it would have been a political suicide, and his approval rating would have instantly dropped to below 40%. So while it was theoretically possible, realistically it was just a fantasy.
And yes, he went to a kindergarten class. This may come as a surprise but the president won't just drop everything when something comes up. If he did he would literally have no free time at all because SOMETHING IS ALWAYS HAPPENING. If going to a kindergarten class for a few hours is terrible then tell Obama to stop taking so many vacations, he has work to do.
This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day. This is an ironic juxtaposition of events: one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication while the other involves a groundhog.
"Try to comprehend the hypocrisy of a Congress that requires every citizen to prove that they are insured.....but does not require everyone to prove they are a citizen"
Hope you didn't put money on that. Approval ratings are the highest they've been in over a year. That's on all polls conducted other than Fox, which wouldn't tell you the truth anyway.
I am saddened that a political cooenter named Luis needs to study the events in the country he is criticizing. I doubt Luis has studed this are very much as he would know tha tthe State of the Union address is ronight the 25th of January, 2011; and that Groundhog Day is held on the 2nd of February every year. It was a good effort at humor as a few of the commenters didn't know any more than you did.
Luis If this analysis of yours is an honest assessment of the president's intelligence, the entire country is in trouble. If even the most arrogants (people like you) can't even do the simplest analysis to compare and contrast, you may as well grab your gun and start fighting the chinese early rather than later because they will be damn sure have a smarter strategy. Who am I to say? after all my intelligence is probably as little as the president.
You have to be heavily sedated to conclude that the man who earned his degree at one of the greatest universities on earth has little intelligence. I will accept any other analysis from you but that. If you sincerely believe that, we will become a nation with baboons intelligence.
Groundhog Day is always Feb. 2. That post about comparison makes no sense and should be ignored. I am sure the person that wrote it is embarrassed for trying to be witty before doing any fact checking.
I love the president. He is trying to govern America not just his party. The other side never does that. No is not a solution in my opinion. Before I vote for president next time I will ask myself what each side did to help us out of the worst economic crisis in decades. What they did for America. Obama has done plenty!! Clearly the "creature of little intelligence" makes posts on here without knowing the standard calendar... DUH!!! (it's not "witty" if the poster is a retard)
Funny...compared to last year? You're kidding, right?
Let me remind you that last year, Barry was basking in the glow of about a 40% approval rating. I believe it got as low as 38% Are you really that excited about Barry's new-found fame? He is a complete joke and will be escorted out of the White House in less than 2 years...
Oh silly Luis, you forgot about the new law by Congress. The Fence Hole Act as it is called provides security to people that cross into the United States in a way that avoids border control agencies. So while they can attempt to make every legal citizen on record prove they are insured, those protected under this particular law will have no worries concerning this, nor any future law Congress makes. Do you not love politicians?
After 9/11 a Federal law was enacted for states to confirm citizenship. Here in Washington a law was put in place in contradiction to the Federal law making it illegal for the department of licensing to deny a drivers license to illegals. The states argument was that the Federal law was an unfunded mandate. What could it cost for someone behind the counter to say, no you can't have a license because you cannot prove your citizenship? I can see where that simple act could cost millions. Oregon figured out not long ago that illegals from other states were getting Oregon licenses then moving back to another state. Washington just figured that out, and may be doing something about. Rest assure that illegal advocacy groups will fight it tooth and nail.
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
He is a complete joke and will be escorted out of the White House in less than 2 years...
Hope you ain't bettin' the farm on that, Gomer. I hope your still around here on Nov. 7, 2012 so I can rub it in your face. You guys have no one even remotely qualified to challenge him and you know it.
You guys have no one even remotely qualified to challenge him and you know it.
Who is you guys? Just guessing you vote straight down the ticket checking only the Democrat box on everything like that is a persons name .
Frankly i don't see anything special about obama and i was hoping the change would be for the better .
Mass transit trains may and do work well in populated places like Ny or La but not so much in most of the rest of the U.S.A we don't have the passangers to support them.
Oh and don't get me started on this healthcare crap the big spender is getting his money where to pay for all this ?..yep the tax payers pockets.
Also remember he is not king barry he can only do what the congress allows and they can be replaced if enough people wake up!
Guys like you! Thought that was pretty simple to figure out. Nice to see you have all the usual responses set to memory. Do you just cut and paste for each post? BTW, if you can figure out how to run the country without spending any money, then you should run for office.
You will find liberals who want to be carried on the shoulders of others, who think that the world owes them a living. They don't seem to see that we must all lift together and pull together. Henry Ford
Can't answer the question, can you. And btw, Henry Ford was a an avid anti-semetic who ordered a violent response to striking workers. A real nice guy, he was.
Tony i don't answer stupid questions as far as Mr. Ford goes slavery was long gone before the Model T . I am not a union fan either if you don't like you.re job quit and go away i am sure someone else will be glad to take your place.
The job is owned by the EMPLOYER not the employee so feel free to leaveeeee!
No, not really. Just calling it as it is. I could've called you a jerk, moron or idiot, but I try be a bit more civil. But thanks for the compliment, and what was it that you were trying to say anyway. I didn't see anything different or mind boggling about it. If you want to discuss politics, feel free. If you want to just spout out about people who don't agree with you, then your fair game.
And hey, retired, I am offended that you think my question about running the gov't without spending money is stupid. That's what your platform is about, isn't it? Or is it, that you just don't want certain types to be included? I wouldn't think a military man like yourself would want to see that part of the pie touched, even though it's the largest part of where the money goes. So where else could we go? Maybe just cut off all of the lazy, unemployed bums from getting anything. Yea, that's it. In reality, that's a pretty small percentage of the federal budget. Here's what's really going to happen, and you can take this to the bank. The newly formed Congress will, with all good intention, sit down and try to see where they can cut. The problem with that is, if it affects a certain Congressman's district, he or she will not go for it because it will most certainly hurt people in their respective district. This ain't anything new. It's been going on for years. So we'll just see how much is cut out.
The economy was "Broken and Crumbling" when Obama took office. He and Congress have stabilized the "Crumbling". Its now time to repair the "Broken Economy".
Michael...I agree that the economy was broken and crumbling...and that he stabilized the crumbling. However, he had taken the wrong path! In our country when business's "fail"...they go into bankruptcy which in turns creates and promotes opportunities for others to take over those opportunities. Obama game these companies monies to continue the same rhetoric!
In America...business will always change and move forward...we don't need politicians to be part of those day to day business's. They are politicians to be sure we are on a "level playing field"... Once again, he has stablized economy in the wrong direction... Obama needs a clear agenda...not a cruch to hold up those incompetent companies that were failing regardless...
Michael - the country had a migraine and the "cure" was an appendectomy. Just because the anesthesia has stopped the pain of the migraine does not mean that the approach was right.
Does you seriously believe that the disintegration of the American financial and manufacturing sectors would have been good for the country? If so, please elaborate. We would have had a major depression with job losses in the tens of millions over and above what we experienced. How is that a good thing?
Where is your proof they would have disintegrated? A bunch of bank and wall street fear mongers whining for a bailout so THEY wouldn't lose their shirts??? I'm not impressed.
Take a good hard look at what the government actually did, you will be disgusted if you are honest with yourself.
Nocommonsense, had GM and Chrysler been allowed to fail as they should have, those jobs would have been replaced as people would still be buying cars. Ford, Honda, & Toyota have much better business models and would have readily increased staffing to meet the increased demands.
Yes they did. Are you inferring that their current and ongoing incompetence be paid for by the tax payers because they did good deeds 80 years ago. And... I don't believe we have ever fought a war against Toyota or Honda. You've got to let go of the past my friend. Japan is now an ally. The times have changed.
An economy will only correct itself if GREED is not the dominant factor. In today's corporate america; (not to mention politics etc.) greed is the DRIVING force.... This economy will not correct itself; and the solutions thrown thus far will only prove to drive it deeper.
but then.. that's my opinion.... nothing more... no facts.. no numbers....
I have a question: How is the economy supposed to correct itself, when has basically inverted a Henry Ford pearl of wisdom about product manufacturing, it has gone from "Make goods at the highest possible quality, at the lowest possible cost, paying the highest possible wages" to "Make the lowest quality goods possible, charging the highest prices possible, with the cheapest labor possible" Nevermind the fact that, well, if businesses kept jobs state side, instead of outsourcing nearly everything that doesn't require more than a low level backgroud check, we might not have some(not all but some) of the unemployment problems we have right now. But wait who was it that promoted tax breaks for that... who was it... I think his initials were.. Um one was a G.... I think one was a W.... and I believe the last was a B.
Michael, have you ever heard the old adage that "It is better to remain silent and let people think you are a fool, rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubt".
honestly from what I see the proof is what we have. In my honest opinion, not to offend anyone or step on any toes: the economy is better. So if what some might say that what he is doing is wrong, please elaborate. So far i am seeing improvement. If I am wrong please help me understand. This is just my opinion.
In my opinion, he was one of the biggest of the big spenders as a Senator before he took the Presidential office. Perhaps a good portion of the fiscal crap he's wading through right now is his fault? Sure, blame Bush if you want, but keep in mind that spending bills don't originate at the Executive level. Take a good look at the State of Illinois. They raised personal withholding taxes 70+% overnight....whose fault do you think that is? Who was Senator of that State when all the spending was going on? It's completely ridiculous, and you're simply blinded by the glitz and glamour of it all. This isn't a new story to be told...this is simply more of the same old crap. Once he leaves the White House, perhaps you should plan on your Federal taxes going up as well to pay for all this glitz and glamour?
Well-- Honest--that's basically all this is about. 99% of the content in theses posts are based on perception as opposed to fact--certainly mine is. We have the deeply philosophic crowd, we have Tea Party folks, hard core Democrats, hard core Republicans, blue collar workers against blue collar workers. We have pro-war and we have anti-war. Bonus--The Vine has some promising writers that rival the paid press. Find your spot.
The only other rule--if someone presses that approval box after your comment--don't let it go to your head.
I would wager that most of the people that post hateful comments here don't vote either. My co-workers that complain the loudest and the most admit they don't vote. They say it "doesn't make any difference." I think if you don't exercise your right to vote, you should not have a right to complain either. A lot of you sound just like opinionated losers in life with nothing better to do than blame someone else for your circumstances.
America's is a Broken Arrow economy and we are now on the same arc as the Soviet Union under Gorbechev, ...mired in Afghanistan, being shelled by Right Wing 'I've Got Mine™' thugs, and bled white by international banksters.
"Five-year freeze in entitlements" is right out of IMFs playbook that plan destroyed the Soviet Union, Argentina and lot of smaller countries for the last forty years. Next they will have US default on pensions, that's another famous IMF move, as is QE devaluation of our latest rev of the $100.
The only thing keeping retail on life support is what they are now freezing, at the same time as prices for food and energy have already eaten up the $31 that CBO reported in 2009 which was the average American's savings rate.
We are all Usury Serfs of America now, except for WADC and Alexandria, VA, which have the HIGHEST PER CAPITA INCOME ANYWHERE IN THE USA.
Herman---your message gets drowned out by all the yelling. TP'ers are going to cool their message if ever to be taken seriously. I think the awareness regarding debt and regulation have been heard amply. You guys get so aggressive with your message that you turn mainstream off.
Stabilized? Inflation going faster than indy cars, wages down, even walmart laying off, elderly on ss and disabled ss drowning because of the pay freeze [that's taking care of our current people on SS], like said last night....
You know what, it's a waste of my time to convince you dam idiots that this all garbage.
I see NO Sustainable economic recovery. Without private sector job growth the slight improvement is only temporary. This is reminisent of the uptick in 1939, right before the big fall! To copy Roosevelt is to garner similar results!Â
I don't either Ted. I have no confidence he will do the right thing by protecting and promoting American business over the world economy. I'm just hoping the republican congressmen can stifle his agenda and take away his checkbook for the final two years of this presidency.
How can you go by a moniker of "commonsense" when you make statements like that? Especially since you don't have a clue as to what I drive, what I buy and how I live my life? Typical uninformed liberal just looking to bash anyone that has an educated viewpoint.
For your information, I drive a Ford and average 24 mpg. Not spectacular but I live in the north and for my family I feel safer with all wheel drive. I buy most of my food from local farmers, a local butcher and a local baker. I do support American business every chance I get.
More than anyone can say for Obama, who supports his chinese campaign contributors before anyone else.
It is an ignorant argument to say buy American if the intent is to buy from the big 3. Ford, GM, & Chrysler have plants around the globe and Toyota & Honda among other have plants here in the states. For what it's worth, GM sells more cars in China than it does in the U.S.
I would also bet, Mike, there are fewer regulations on what they need to do to manufacture a car for the Chinese market than the American market. They probably don't CAFE standards to meet that make cars less safe and more expensive.
Danno I know one would think that, but its really not true, I manage IT services for one of the largest parts Manufacturer (dont want to give up the name). Our plants in China are held to the same standards as our other global plants. Our Safety and environmental people spend as much time in China as they do here and in Latin America. The HS&E VP just got back from 6 weeks in China making sure we keep our standards across the board at the same level.
Umm ted, go back and read a history book, the uptick was in 1936, the fall was in 1937, and then everything got back on course in 1938 when we entered the war. Contrary to what Rush and Beck say, Roosevelt didn't extend the depression for 8 years, he wasn't even in office for 8 years before the official end of the depression.
Excuse me, Eric and llh1958, but the U.S. didn't enter WW2 until 1941, after Pearl Harbor. Before that, we were lending the British old equipment and weapons under the Lend-Lease Act, but not officially participating in the fighting.
A very subjective statement because it depends on if you are on the receiving end of Obama's perceived productivity or the giving end. I think that most of the American taxpayers we are on the giving end since it is our tax dollars he is spending to see his agenda become fruitful. Most any of us could make a lot of promises to people then see many of them come true if we had the combined American taxpayer's money to spend and especially if you combine that with the borrowing power of the United States of America. What Obama has done is nothing to brag about and in far to many cases, something to hide.
Really? Angry Hamster... barefoot hillbillies are the ones who fought the war that won this country it's independence. Don't be so damn judgmental just because someone chooses to live in a cabin in the mountains vs the ghetto in the city.
Ernie--That's a fairly "sloppy with facts" analogy. In fact, the only fact that you poured out was that he is the current President.
My take---it was the worst time in the history to have the job. As a country's banking system down the tube--so goes the country. I wouldn't even want to imagine what would have happened to the working class without social safety nets and extending unemployment benefits.
He's made some choices that were damned tough. I respect him for that. In his life, I bet he measures his time in seconds with no downtime. He does more on vacation than other administrations do in 4 years--both sides--and I was amazed when Sen McCain called him "a True Patriot" 2 days ago. Bring the tempo up and stop singing the blues.
'Productivity' is a term meaning a measure of profits made, less worker wages paid. Banksters are booking highest profits ever, and sloughing their contract with workers to provide benefits and pensions. Ergo, 'productivity', or as Janis sang so eloquently, 'Productivity is just another word, for nothing left to lose.'
'Productivity' is the clear-cut forest, the slavghterhouse, the crematorrium.
All you have to do is read the paragraphs that the Obama Campaign channel tries to quickly gloss over.
Massive unemployment after two years, massive foreclosures coming this year. Inflation coming because Obama has the Treasury printing WORTHLESS money to pay our debt.
ObamaCare which even Democrats AVOIDED on their election/re-election campaigns. (If it was or is so damn wonderful, they should have been screaming from the rooftops their support, instead of either not talking about it or denying they supported it even though they voted for it.)
His first speech talked about jobs, his state of the union LAST YEAR talked about jobs, and his stimulus probably has actually created a few jobs, at a cost of over $500,000 per job. (Hell, I'll quit working and just take the $500K please.)
And tomorrow, AGAIN, he'll talk about jobs and of course, as usual, point his finger at everyone except the Democrats on the state of the economy.
And the worst part is, you libs will actually believe his lies, AGAIN. But then again, you probably believed Pelosi when she said that unemployment creates jobs and that for her four years in office Democrats showed "fiscal responsibility" and did ONLY pay-as-you-go. And you probably believed Reid when he said "the war is lost", and actually told us that the economy was recovering.
You know, how is it that the party of deregulation got a free pass on crashing the economy? How is it the party of Big Oil got a free pass on the BP spill? And how is it the party of assault weapons just got a free pass on another massacre?
Cheryl, you can attack Obama for not solving today's problems fast enough, but nothing can hide the fact that your people caused them in the first place.
Old Old Argument toasty. It has been proven it is all the politicians fault, not one side or the other.
"The most productive two years that we've had in generations," the president pronounces it. Ha Ha Ha. The depression continues to go on and on. He has the gall to pronounce this..... What an ego maniac.....It is just another example of his lies, dilutions and broken campaign promises. Still waiting for the Jobs amoung other things.
As some of these comments illustrate, the AP article is correct. The administration's success in preventing a second great depression is currently underestimated, as millions are still not feeling "recovered". The administration will look better in hindsight, just as FDR was. One of our greatest Presidents, he had his detractors at the time as well. Still, the administration has to feel good about the improved poll numbers since the midterms. Odd how fast the Repubs numbers went down though.
It seems that the Democrats are just not good at PR and naming their bills. "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" doesn't get people excited like "Repeal of the Job Killing Health Care Law" does. I am really glad to see the two parties will be sitting beside one another tomorrow night. The two sides thing always looks so divided and partisan.
I wouldn't say that anyone person or party stopped the depression since there wasn't and probably wouldn't have been, at least in economic terms.
What I do think the government did was to put a band aid on a sucking chest wound. If the businesses that were failing were allowed to fail, another company would have picked up that market and we may have recoverd faster.
www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/warning/view/ Here you go toasty, try to pay attention, they use some big words so have some one explain them to you. This has been public knowledge for years now. Who will be your leader now that Olbermann is off the air. Try to stop the hate mongering and look at things without the blue glasses.
Free pass LOL. Oil is paying for the clean up. Guns do not kill, people do. Just because a nutcase got a hold of a gun is not a parties fault.
Hey toasty......You want to know who the REAL party of "deregulation" is?
How about the Democrats who not only blocked ANY regulation of Fannie and Freddie, but actually PROTECTED Raines when auditors pointed out that he was cooking the books at Fannie? It was called a "political lynching" because Raines was black.
And in the end, what happened? Why the auditor was right, Raines WAS cooking the books, got paid 60 MILLION dollars to do it (something you libs always scream about, a CEO that gets paid too much, and this guy LOST hundreds of billions of dollars). Not only that, but Obama actually HIRED this guy as an "economic adviser"?????
Meanwhile, despite the Democrats holding a massive majority in Congress, they have REFUSED to regulate Fannie and Freddie but have no problems going after everyong else, do they?
And Fannie and Freddie have lost OVER 150 Billion dollars in TAXPAYER money, have a 400 BILLION dollar "line of credit" (again TAXPAYER dollars), and are currently on the hook for OVER 5 Trillion dollars in mortgages (about 20% of them toxic) and are still buying up more. (and still selling them as "securities", which is what caused this economic mess we're in)
You know, how is it that the party of deregulation got a free pass on crashing the economy?
So deregulation like repealing Glass-Steagall allowing deposit banks to leverage risky investments to ratios that only investment banks could? That happened in 1998.
Or do you mean deregulation on trading like NAFTA?
Or maybe you mean the deregulation of tariffs and trade barriers that happened by signing the WTO Free Trade agreements in the mid 90's?
Possibly you may be referring to the deregulation of Fannie and Freddie that lowered the qualifications for lending promoted in the late 90s?
Cheryl, you can attack Obama for not solving today's problems fast enough, but nothing can hide the fact that your people caused them in the first place.
So let's see....lowering lending standards led to bad loans being packaged as derivatives, which, due to Glass-Steagall being repealed, were purchased by deposit banks thereby risking individuals savings. Signing NAFTA and the WTO agreements led to an enormous trade deficit and massive unemployment due to the outsourcing of manufacturing and service industries (and that fed into foreclosures and bad loans).
Sorry Toasty, pretty sure most conservatives didn't view Clinton as one of "our people"....although I do get the feeling he's one of "yours".
psst Toasty...here's a hint....you're next argument is "Wars of Lies"
You forgot to mention that the housing crisis was started by Carter when he went to the Banks and forced them to loan in depressed areas on housing that couldn't hold it's value. Forced the Banks into this lending.
And then Clinton took it a step further when he specifically made a racial requirement for lending to the poor who could not afford it.
This then paved the way for the Banks actions and loose lending practices that the Banks obviously took advantage of for the quick buck up front.
But for some reason the libs like to overlook all of this and how the ball actually got rolling.
We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before," Obama said to rousing applause. I hope we rebound after 2012 election ..it sure not gona be this time. I think hes borrowed out or hope he is.
One thing I noticed he didn't mention in his speech was that we all have to tighten our belts as China put out feelers today that they are not going to lend to the US any more monies.
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
If we are all sitting around doing nothing waiting to see what the government is going to do next then we have already lost half of the battle.
Sure there are things that we would all like so see improve.
But if the things that work have to come to a grinding halt to do it then we need to review our direction/objectives.
I think this President missed the opportunity to do much good. His personal ideals got in the way.
"The most productive two years that we've had in generations." ??
By what standard?
We are not trying to create the perfect welfare state.
And it is not our government's role to balance the weight of the world.
If the president wants to see a positive response to his speech from the public I expect he will rely on his inauguration rhetoric, intangibles. These skills could certainly be put to good use ELSEWHERE.
But half way through his presidency if he has to resort to that instead of being able to relay any positive results of his policy and a continuing plan for improvement then I say he is a failure.
You know, if the President hadn't spent the last two years caving in and giving the teabaggers everything they demanded, he might have actually solved some of the problems they created.
watch your "chosen one" dance on the state of the union, toasty!!
with the exception of you 47 olberman fans who are slobbering all over yourselves, america KNOWS who's responsible for the mess we're in....and it ain't tea PARTIERS, sparky!!!
we've ALL watched obumbler stumble and bumble his way into a morass that spells the doom of your "cause", sparky!
heck, sparky, there's going to be more people watching the pre-game o'reilly/obama "interview" on supebowl sunday than there will be people who watch obama "dance" through his state of the union address..
poor little fella! (gender assumption...)
i love reading your posts, toasty! GREAT entertainment!! as a matter of fact, i've tried to find ways to "nominate" you for the coveted "most foolish liberal blogger" award....but then there's SO much competition...
you are right....more people (like you) will watch oreilly/beck because it is easier for them to tell you what Obama says than you actually listening to Obama.
P.S. I love it when Repubs point out how many people listen to rush/beck and how few listen to maddow/oberman.....we can think for ourselves, we do not need people to translate as we are college grads. ha ha
"we can think for ourselves"...."we do not need people to translate...."
fleabaggers??? "think for themselves"?????
ROFL!
there were over EIGHT THOUSAND comments from you...people...when oberman got fired, sparky!!!
i think we have a NEW CONTENDER for the "most foolish liberal blogger" award!
sparky, i HAVE listened to obama...and then tried to "match" what he SAYS with what he DOES....RARELY do the two "meet" in reality, sparky! obama's a MASTER at obfuscation and spin, sparky, but we're ALL seeing VERY CLEARLY both sides of his "face"....
funniest post of the day, gpotts!
p.s. i love it when fleabaggers "rush" (pun intended) to condemn fox news et al for being SO MUCH BETTER than all the LIBERAL places COMBINED!!! and, even funnier is how most of the fleabaggers seem to know SO MUCH about what fox has to say! it's almost...as...if...they...were...ALL...closet...FOX...WATCHERS!!!!!
What a troll, people like you promote racism, lying, putting our soldiers at risk, terrorism, the whole works. Why, I would have to say you must be a communist.
Here's a question for you Toasty... What's a person so in touch with reality doing posting to a BB in the middle of a Monday morning? If you have nothing better to do than exchange superficial jabs with people whose intellect you claim to have so little respect for, then what good are you? Personally, I think you're characteristic of the spineless children that put this poor excuse for a leader into power in the first place. You spend half of your time blaming Bush for a host of problems the balance of which go back to the Clinton administration, and the other half exalting a man swept into office on the back of the most racially-motivated presidential election in US history. Get a life; get a job; and start being part of the solution. As of now, you, along with the rest of your fellow bleeding heart no-accounts are all mouth and action.
honestly I see both of your sides( done and toasty) I see where some might say that Obama has not fully done what he promised. I completely agree. At the same time, I see where one brings up tea parties. It is true that since day one, republicans have done everything they can to hinder Obama in doing what he has promised. I could say more but I feel, as evident by reading what is being posted, that I might step on some toes.
You make a good point Toasty McGrath, but before the astroturf party rose from the bowels of far right-wing fanatic politicians, it was the republicans fighting for big business.
Neubob You termed the word "blame". That is indeed inexcusable. One should realize in this day and age that words hurt people and is best to be politically correct. I will help correct it for you. Bush was not to blame for our plight, he is the reason for our plight. Ah, doesn't that sound better?
Now, to make you feel better about Clinton:
There has been a republican president spanning 8 years since Clinton who was deficit neutral to correct any bad policy and you STILL want to blame him for the mess.
As for being a bleeding heart myself, I demand every single voter that put the economy crashing, foreign thrashing, war criminal in power to pay the american people back every dime he cost us, including the Iraq War since it was unjustified. Those on the right will feel better about paying for one's mistake, and I won't lose a moment's sleep over your broke pocket book, living in poverty, begging at church's tail at night. How's that for a bleeding heart?
A Rising Tide raises all boats. How're you doing there Pretender-in-Chief? $100 a pound meat taste good, as your voters are on the unemployment line? You and your LYING tongue are an American DISGRACE! How about some more golf? How about another Hawaian Vacation? Maybe some basketball. Sorry you can't take that. NOwhere to Run and NOwhere to HIDE! Less than two years and NO-MORE-O-Bla-ma in The White House! Thanks and Praise Be To GOD!
Come on Guys......why ignore him...... you cant make any better humor up then some of those guys. Feisty, Bev ,Toasty...and twentyfurryliltesticles (tenangryhamsters) god the list goes on .......well not really that long. But I do love the humor, It has given me new insight on how to be a better interviewer of people for employment. I can spot a liberal the minute they open their mouths. With in 2 mins they mention their university and degree. I never bring it up as a point of discussion since its something HR checks as a matter of review. I just laugh at them, not with them!
OK, I meant to stop commenting a while back but it is hard not to after seeing all these interesting comments and topics being brought up. With how you all talk of liberals is understandable the same could be said about those who hate them. All the times I have met anti-Obama supporters, each one of them has looked down upon me as I have no idea what I am talking about. A majority of them have dogmatic attitudes toward me. Now I also want to bring up another thing, he has more than just one job. He is a father, husband, and son. He has to attend to those jobs also. So it is perfectly fine with me if he wants to go on a family trip with his family(which he did go to late because he stayed in Washington) It is okay if he plays basketball( even though he did get hurt once I at least know that I have a healthy and active president) and if he plays golf from time to time( It is fine with me if he has time to clear his head and get his mind right for making some tough decisions). I am just saying.
donedone, I supported Bush during the terrorist strike, supported him during the Afhganistan invasion. I was told Iraq had something to do with 9/11 and he sure had my support when he went after them. Then... I find out I was duped. Backstabbed by my own leader. And while I was distracted by two wars going on, I find out he deregulated Big Business. When did I lose faith in my supposed devoted President? I think it was when I found out he was wire tapping American citizens and torturing detainees. Yeah, anyone that didn't see Bush as a dictator must not read or watch the news or understand what a dictator is. Guess it makes me a liberal if I feel betrayed.
Yea Alan, exactly what lies are you accusing President Obama of? What are you relying on when you allege that he eats $100/pound mean? The "Hawaiian vacations" are he and his family coming HOME, where he was born and where he and his family have returned to visit with family and friends for years, going back to long before he entered politics. Did you object to earlier Presidents returning to their homes for their vacations? Also, have you compared the number of days of vacation that President Obama has taken in his first 2 years in office with the number of days taken by former President Bush? And, if you and the rest of the country are lucky, President Obama will be voted into office again in 2012 for another 4 years! We need him because he cares about the middle class and the poor in this country, segments of the population that have grown bigger and bigger during each Republican administration, particularly during the Bush administration.
It was mentioned on the article; Obama's biggest challenge now is to move the Patient (The Nation) from stability to recovery. Have we forgot how bad things were when Obama took office?
Adding two points to unemployment with a record 20 months above 9% is not helping. Nor is $1.3 trillion deficits year after year. Nor is printing $600 billion to water down the dollar.
I haven't forgotten how bad they were when BHO took office. Unemployment was 5%. It has been 9% and over for 20 months now..............during HIS term.
The president has not delivered on anything that has helped the economy or to add jobs. He has concentrated his efforts on expanding socialism by nationalizing corporations, expanding government and approving massive spending legislation that will bankrupt the country. Now he wants to turn in the other direction forgetting all of the damage he and the Congressional Democrats have done to the economy since they took control of the country in 2006.
If Obama is such a socialist to you, how do you explain corporate profits continuing to climb simultaneously with stagnant wages & a horrible unemployment rate? By any chance are you standing on your head?
We are still in the depression. Prevent what, his campaign promises from being fulfilled. I have to get some of that blue stuff, it must be potent to have the same old crap being spewed over and over and over. Even worse yet to have them actually believe that stuff. Just keep following that blue light is much easier than educating ones self. It is much easier to spew crap based on the blue light theory, than to see the truth. Blind, some people are just plain blind.
b-psyco.....their profits are climbing because the jobs are overseas (forced there by unions, high taxes, and over regulation), and the manufacturing is overseas (forced there by unions, high taxes, and over regulation).
But of course that must be the Republicans fault, right "b"?????
After all, unions of course would never bankrupt a company (oh wait, I forgot about GM, Chrysler, and almost, Ford), or force a company to leave and go somewhere else to build (like EVERY car manufacturer, Caterpillar, HP, Dell, and just about EVERY other major corporation), would they?
And of course the HIGHEST corporate tax in the world would NEVER force a company out of the U.S. would it?
And the massive regulations, fees, and every other idiotic garbage that you libs can come up to PUNISH a company for making a profit, would NEVER force them to go somewhere else, would it "b"?
ALL supported by Obama, with EVEN MORE to come, if he gets his way. All in the name of Obama's "social justice" of course.
carjac What would a right winger know about education? Can you define "recovery"? Can you understand "record" profits by nearly half of Forbes 400? Do you understand "increase" in Dow over last 18 months....OF COURSE YOU DO NOT...because that would mean that our President is effective AND you would die first. If Obama turned the streets to gold, most of you would just bitch about the glare...
gpotts: what would a left winger know about education? (other than what you're TOLD to "know about an education" by your liberal masters...)
can YOU define "unemployment still over 9%"? can YOU define "stagnant economy"? can YOU define "obama just brought in one of the BIGGEST of the 'evil' corporate giants to be his CHIEF OF STAFF"!!!!
who the hell do you think you are, gpotts, to "declare" yourself or others of your...."cause"....as being better educated or more qualified to have opinions????
no wonder you people got your heads handed to you in november...arrogant putz...
I love being called a right winger. Funny The right calls me a left winger. I guess i have no where to go but with the truth. Obama has continued his streak of breaking campaign promise after promise. "I will rid the white house of corp influence and special interest groups". "Creating Jobs will be a #1 priority". "I will bring change to the white house". FACT = He has filled the white house with special interest and corp influence; He is yet again spewing Jobs are his #1 priority; Lies and distortions are not change, they have been part of Washington for years. A pres that puts his personal agenda items in front of the national needs is disgusting. He should be apologising to us. If a Rep Pres was this lame I would be supporting the Left with all my efforts. The independents and moderates put this guy in there, we will remove him in 2012.
The President, any President, is responsible for stock prices and individual company profits? Did you use this knowledge to get in on the all time high in AAPL, for example? Seems clear, you had two years notice that these events would happen. For the next two years, how do we invest in this?
Maybe, just maybe, there is less than a cause and effect relationship between Washington and every outcome everywhere.
Bighorn, where do you get your info? No corporations have been nationalized. Money was LENT to some pretty big corporations, a number of whom have already repaid the government WITH INTEREST, GM to name but one of the largest! President Obama and Congressional Democrats took control of the country in 2006????? Have you been asleep? Bush was in the White House until January 2009 when President Obama was sworn into office, so if you're blaming Obama for anything that happened from 2006 to 2009, you're blaming the wrong guy!! And, by the way, President Obama is NOT a Socialist ... just another of those LIES that you probably got from Limbacksides or Beck and the rest of FAUX News and its trillionaire owner Rupert Murdock (an Australian who has manipulated the governments of Australia, Great Britan AND the United States, along with other GREED and FEAR MONGERS, by putting money into the pockets of other GREED and FEAR MONGERS who vote in the Congress of the United States to keep the money floating up to them and OUT of the pockets of the everyday American workers). Take a chance ... read something for yourself or listen to something other than Limbacksides and FAUX for a change ... you just might learn something that might cause you to question what you've become accustomed to .... AND you might just be able to come to some conclusions of your own, rather than the numerous lies you've apparently been spoon-fed by the likes of Limbacksides and FAUX.
Tell me genius, as part of the GM bailout.......didn't our federal government OWN a significant chunk of their stock ? Would this put the federal govt. in a "conflict of interest" situation with anything to do with Ford ?
Furthermore, the feds bailout of GM was tied together with a screw-job to GM bondholders, while Obama put his union buddies' pension plans to the front of the line.
Until government and the media starts shooting straight from the hip (you know, telling the truth about matters like the REAL unemployment figures...how bout 15-20%)...anything Barry and the media tells me is a waste of airspace.
I can recall one of my economics professors years and years ago stating that the numbers given out for unemployment were not correct because they didn't actually count all of the unemployed. Therefore, I cannot just blame the media today for giving us the numbers as they are calculated.
The number of unemployed when the figure is 4 - 5% is also false and would probably be around the 8 - 10% figure.
Not true, when it is below 5% that is considered full employment because that number is largely churning, (people between jobs, etc). Take a look at the jobs section in the papers at that time, usually page after page. There were help wanted signs all over the place. Contrast that with today.
Are there a number of long term unemployed? Sure, but that number is relatively small and due to lack of job skills, etc. Bottom line, what the job adds run into a number of pages, people aren't hurting.
Bookem I have been UE for over 2 years. I am skilled, hard working and have not received any benefits for over 6 months. I have applied to over 500 jobs, less than 5% have replied if only to tell me no thank you. I can not get work for 1/4 of my old salary. When you have 400 people going after 1 job and many of them have masters and PHD's their is not much of a chance for someone like me who through hard work, worked himself up the ladder of success and the corp structure. Experience means nothing to those who are hiring. Please do not make light of the situation of the UE. We are not lasy rebels who watch Opra all day, eating bon bons. I was put out because of the greed from the bankers and brokers who really needed that 6th vacation home and a 3rd upstairs maid. I want Obama out, not because he is a Dem, but because he has not met a campaign promise yet. He has made things worse if anything.
Independent and working for the repeal of Obama and that nightmare of a health bill......
Would you be willing to work at a convenience store, a fast food restaurant and any other job just to provide for your family? It appears you are saying those jobs are not out there. I understand the times are difficult, but I would also think that someone would go out there and get whatever job there is to support themselves and their family.
I was passed over seasonal work at Best buy and target. So yes I have tried at that level. I will need to work very shortly, especially if I am to keep my kids in college. I have an interview for $8 an hour this week, no Benefits. I am glad to get it..... I am supporting my family through my savings. Savings I put aside by 35 yrs of driving old american cars, not eating out weekly, doing my own home improvements, going on local vacations. The list goes on and on. I will be dammed if I let some bloated banker take my house. They got there bail out, I did not. On top of that Obama gave them a second one with the tax extension. Where was the extension for those of us, the long term UE? Please Watch what you say about the UE. Most of us are here by no fault of our own.
For anyone who is still uneducated on the economic collapse, why it occured or who is to blame please use the link to educate yourself. The statement of "IT's Bushes Fault" is so old and incorrect it is funny. The documentary is from Frontline Via PBS a liberal station to say the least. Although I do enjoy watching the same lefties pulling their foot from their mouth, its getting old.

We will finish the job of 2010 in 2012... Repeal Obama
caradjt, I understand your plight. My brother was an engineer fo Chrusler - lost his job when they moved his plant to Mexico. He was UE for 18 months - applied eerywhere but was either "over qualfied" or told he was too old (48). He even tried McDonalds. Like you, he went to ever interview he could and finally got a job running a forklift - a job he did was he was 20 yrs old - for less than 1/3 of his salary. Like you, he refused to just give up and takes pride in the fact that he working and supporting his family as best he can. Hang in there - hopefully things ill change if we (I mean the people) just refuse to take the crappyhand that is being dealt.
Thank you cats, I appreciate every encouraging word......I wish obama's were more so. We got same old same old in the speach. It is to bad. I had so much hope in 2010. Now all I see is lies lies lies and more spending we can not afford.
The only way to get jobs back in the USA is for our government to stop making it cheaper to do business elsewhere. Oh wait I forgot Large corporations and Wall street run our government and they do not want that so it will never happen.
I don't know if your second sentence was sincere or sarcasm. If it was sincere, I would have to question why business would want the American public to have less money to spend on thier products? If the purchasing power of the American public is down graded, the demand for their products will also diminish, at least here.
The banksters make money either way the flow of trade goes. ChinaMFN? No problemo, massive profits playing 'bubble up' in the derivatives markets. New trade sanctions? Wonderful! Massive profits loaning free Treasury money to small businesses, most of whom go bankrupt and stiff their subcontractors, ...as this new wave of balloon payment commercial bankruptcies will prove.
Tighten belt, cardboard in shoes, donation bin clothes, dumpster diving, tent city, until they fall off the cliff, lose their address and cellphone, and become The Invisibles, like ~46,000,000 other jobless, homeless, part-time, on-call, no salaries, no benefits, no pension and now no healthcare, who have been thrown under the Royal Chariot (that BLS estimate was 2009~!)
It's circle the wagons time, stock up, bank the fires, keep your powder dry. The Blue Coat cavalry ain't comin' to nobody's rescue.
What is it with you guys and the teleprompter? Do you that Bush Jr or Senior did not use one? What about Reagan? Every President has used a teleprompter since they were invented! Get over it.
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
Baby steps my fellow Americans..baby steps and patience! I know it looks alittle bad Almost 20% of us are out of work and so many have lost our homes and the Deficit is a Terrible bad joke. But now for the Small ray of sunshine...that will lighten your load! Tonite many of our politicians will be sitting next to each other arm in arm, talking and joking about what the've done to us and will do in the future!I would like to propose a twist on the kindergarden seating proposal and suggest that they sit on each others laps so the politician on top can relate for a few moments to us the forgotten American People!
Hitler was NOT a socialist... Why do the stupid people keep repeating the lie that the NAZI's were socialist. Then NAZI's were ultra-conservatives. They rounded up the socialists and communists and put them in death camps. Look it up!
You mean the National SOCIALIST German workers party? BTW, I DID look it up, and this is what I found on Google (national socialist: relating to a form of socialism; "the national socialist party came to power in Germany in 1933") Maybe YOU should look in the mirror and find out who the STUPID one is!
Rosiy.....ya gotta love how liberals try and deny the truth of the Nazis being socialists, even when the word is right there in the party name. They obviously don't get it that.... just because you may fight against other socialists or communists that it doesn't change what you are. But they act as if its not possible for you to have war or fight with someone of the same political ideology as you. I mean really, you have to love the delusions of the liberals who can't stand it that Hitler was indeed a socialist. But, as always, liberals will deny the truth even when their postions are indefensible and all logic and reason goes against them.
Liberals of course know that, but they use the tactic as justification that it somehow magically changes the definition of the word socialist. They listen to some idiot liberal professor in some political science 101 class and then they just repeat the lies as if they are fact.
Of course, they also would like to forget that Margaret Sanger, the founder of so called Planned Parenthood also supported eugenics ...just like the Nazis. She didn't approve of the methods of the Nazis, but the goal was the same none the less, regardless of the particular methods used to rid the planet of those types she considered undesirable.
And then of course the ACLU was founded by communists as well. Liberals don't like for people to know or remember those little facts. But then again, liberals are fascists to the core, so its no surprise. And then there is Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the supreme court who fully supports eugenics just as Sanger did, and also served as chief conuncel for the ACLU. So in that case, you get two birds with one idiot....er stone....a supporter of both the goals of the Nazis and the head of an organization started by communists.
Never underestimate the ability of a liberal to come up with new and inventive ways to lie.
Jerry: Military. Who does that resemble? I'd say some guys named Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and Franklin. They even made sure they put defense of the nation in this little thing called "The Constitution".
Of course liberals hate the military and the constitution, so its no surprise that you would try and equate that with Hitler. And for that matter, using your logic, I guess any country that has a military is comparable with Hitler in your world. Sorry, doesn't work. Flawed logic. First point denied.
Jerry: Liberals don't like conservatives. Conservatives don't like liberals. There are always going to be groups that don't like each other. Andrew Jackson the DEMOCRAT president was the one responsible for the infamous Trail of Tears and throwing indians off of their lands. Funny, I don't see many liberals willing to give up their land and house to give it back to native Americans. But as usual, there have been liberals that are willing to give up someone elses land that they don't own and give it back to the native Americans. Typical liberalism
FDR had legal American citizens locked in camps because of what they looked like during WW II when we were fighting Hitler. So I guess using your logic, if there is a particular group you don't like, then you're like Hitler. Sorry, homosexuals are just another group that get no special exemption.
For the most part many on the right do not approve of their lifestyle. Just as many on the left look with disdain on those on the right who go to church and have strong beliefs. Sorry. Doesn't work. Flawed Logic. Second point denied.
Jerry: Art. I think a Stealth Fighter is art. Who are you to tell me what is art?? But the only art that conservatives have problems with is that art that is created intentionally to insult them and then paid for with TAX DOLLARS.
I have no problem with any artist creating whatever he wishes even if its intent is to insult someone else. No problem with it at all. What those on the right DO have a problem with is when that art is paid for with tax dollars.
Keep the federal government out of the art business. If the artist is worthy then they will find a way to get their art created, seen and appreciated. Third point so minor, not worthy of consideration. Third point denied.
Jerry: Jesus. Just because the Nazis used Jesus in a corrupt way to try and futher their agenda does not make Jesus the bad guy here. If you want to try and equate, oh say, the Westboro Baptist morons with the Nazis, then you might have a point.
But I guess in your world, it goes without saying that if you claim a releationship with Jesus, that it makes you like Hitler. Which I guess would be news to thousands of black liberal preachers across the nation. Its not just conservartives that claim to have a relation to Jesus. Flawed logic. Fouth point denied.
Jerry: Borders. Americas borders are not "closed". No one on the right wants to deny immigration. We don't believe in open border, but we don't deny those that want to come here legally, only those that think they can break our laws and come here regardless of what our laws say. Don't like the law then change it. Flawed logic and false statements. Fifth point denied.
Jerry: Radio: Both sides have access to radio communitcations in this country. I can't help it if liberals don't have the ability to make it on radio in this country because no one wants to listen to them. But there is of course NPR which is virtually nothing but left wing propaganda and, just like the arts in many instances, is funded by the taxpayer. Flawed logic. Sixth point denied.
Jerry: Unions. Okay, on this one ya got me....at least to a degree. Why don't we index all government workers to their private sector counterparts and pay them the average wage of those in the private sector. The average government worker is today making "twice" what their private sector counterpart earn and is doing it on the backs of the taxpayer. Unions have done some good things in the past, but today they are corrupt organizations that have outlived their usefulness and serve more to make the union leaders wealthy than they do their members. Don't cry about companies leaving the USA when unions price them out of the market. Companies don't exist to employ people, although liberals firmly believe that is why they should exist. Even so, I'll give you a partial point on that one.
Jerry: Industrialists. If you think its only the right that aligns themselves with certain industries for their mutual benefit, then you need to take a closer look at the way things work. I'm sure that you don't like the supreme court decision allowing corporations to make political contributions, but have no problem with groups like the trial lawyers, and unions being able to give all they want. If you think the lobbiest in congress only speak with those on the right, then I can't help you. It works both ways on both sides. Flawed logic. Eighth point denied.
Jerry: Party discipline. Yeah, it reminds me of liberals who, if they can't win party disipline by having the best position on an issue, instead just buy it from their members with things like the Louisiana Puchase, Cornhusker Kickback, and exemptions for those that decide they don't want to comply with new laws that were passed in a manner never intended by the rules of the senate, while expecting everyone else to have to live by those laws. Looking at only one side. Ninth Point denied.
Jerry: The occult?? Really too ridiculous to even answer, but I guess you forgot about Hillary Cinton channeling Elenor Roosevelt. The difference is that Nancy Reagan never held an elected office. Hillary still wants to be president. Tenth point denied.
Jerry: Sorry, I missed the "traditional family values" point earlier. If you think traditional family values of the right include the systematic slaughter of millions of people, then your view of what the right believes in as traditional family values is very warped.
But funny, you didn't mention abortion, which Hilter also opposed. But of course Hitler didn't oppose abortion on moral grounds, he opposed abortion for aryan women because of his wanting to expand the aryan nation. Jewish pregnant women he would just shoot in the head. Much more efficient than abortion. But since 1973 there have been over 50 million abortions supported by the left which far surpasses the holocaust of Hitler. And as I mentioned in my very first post, the left i.e Sanger, Ginsberg, Cloward and Piven etc. are firm believers in eugenics which is far more in line with Hitler than anything you can point to on the right. Flawed logic. Eleventh point denied.
So Jerry, you see, all of the points you tried to make really just fall into the category of "Hitler had two legs, so if you've got two legs, you must be like Hitler as well."
Sorry, can't even really give you a "nice try" accolade as they were all so easy to refute and dismiss. Better luck next time. And also, I found it amusing that you tried so vainly to associate the right with Hitler, but didn't even try and dismiss the main point of my original post which was: Hitler was a socialist....just like the liberals of today.
Obama needs to be stopped now. Imagine the damage he would have done over the last 2 yrs if he did not have to worry about reelection in 2012! He has not listened to the will of the people yet. His left leanings would be magnified 10 times if he did not need independents to vote for him in12. If he is elected to another term God help US.
YOUR taxes would have gone up Bill. ALL your taxes, income, investment, and even the cost of you dying would have gone up, if Obama wasn't worried about 2012.
Democrats wouldn't be getting on board with either changing or just out and out repealing the ObamaCare ripoff Bill.
Democrats and Obama wouldn't be talking about REAL bitpartisanship Bill.
Didn't you pay attention to last November Bill? Not only the House getting a Republican majority, but the Senate getting more Republicans, and STATES all over the country actually changing to Republican leadership.
The majority of this country, is SICK of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and Democrats and their "social justice" programs Bill. They are SICK of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and Democrats telling the vast majority of the nation that they are "Astro-Turf", "un-American", "Nazi's", and every other term they use to denigrate tens of millions of people that do NOT want "social" programs to be the dominate legislation passed by our government.
They want to be left alone to live their lives the way that they want to, WITHOUT the government intruding on every part of their lives, including telling them WHAT they will buy, what they will drive, and all the other ash and trash the Democrats think that the government is supposed to do (and to hell with the Constitution and what it says)
If Obama was not concerned with re-election in 2012', it is a pretty good bet we would see a hard push for Cap & Trade which according to Obama himself would "Necessarily cause energy prices to skyrocket". We would have higher taxes. Guantanamo would be closed. Let me know if you would like more.
History proves that supply side works every time and demand side has never worked. While no one can prove a negative on either side, history shows us the correct path.
Obama and the democrats have been on the wrong track. The public saw this and corrected it. Now Obama is talking like he "got it", unfortunately he's said this after every setback. Until we see real action, it's just empty words.
How many times has hes said he would now "focus like a laser on jobs"? With a record 20 months above 9% his laser is broken.
The President would be way more liberal if he didn't need independents and Centrist Democrats to vote for him in 2012. His only thought is how to remain in the White House. He will only appear to be a centrist until the 2012 election. After that win or loose this true stripes will show again.
The republicans are going to screw this up(like they always do) and get thrown out again in 2012 ... The independents want people who can govern and the republicans have proved time and time again that they cannot!
sparky, it's no longer "bush did it" (debunked ad nauseum)...it's OBAMA IS DOING IT....which is FACT...
sparky, we've still got a pretty big garbage bag to fill with the rest of your "people" in DC in 2012...including obama...there's room for some reps if they don't act right....but the focus is on the crooked dems (LIKE A LASER...)
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
Duane, exactly what is it that you believe President Obama should be stopped from doing now??? Do you think that he is individually responsible for you having less money in your pocket during the past 2 years? Also, he HAS CLEARLY LISTENED to the will of a huge number of citizens of this country, and I can say this because he has clearly listened to me and many other people I know all over the country because he has focused on the needs of the middle class working people and worked to submit and support legislation that benefits us. Do you think it is possible that perhaps there are other citizens of our country who do not agree with you and your perception of who President Obama really is and and what he has done and what he is focused on doing during the remainder of his first term, because I very clearly have become aware that there are other people who do not preceive the President and his actions the same as I do. Just be aware that there are millions of us who will support and vote for President Obama in 2012 and if all of us are lucky, he will be elected again. In my opinion, by the end of his 8 years in office and into the future, history will record that President Obama will be one of the best presidents ever to hold the office of President of the United States of America!
Is a "joint" session of congress when they all sit around and smoke a dubbie? OK people, step awaaaaay from the dubbie, and Mr. President, it's time to take off those rose colored glasses! They cloud your vision!
The CBO? Please don't make me laugh that hard. If anything they say was realistic they would not have to preface it by saying we can only work with the numbers we have been given. The way HCR was written they are going to tax 10 years for 6 years of benefits. Hello! Jobs saved. There is no way you can actually put a real number to that. We do know the bond/stock holders of GM were ripped off so the unions could keep their jobs. We do know that a large portion of the stimulus money went to Wall Street so they could pay their bonuses. We have gone from 7% unemployement to 9.6%. Foreclosures are at record levels. All the private sector jobs have been shot. Nothing left but goverment jobs to cut. And they have to be cut. The private sector pays for the goverment jobs. Again hello!
OK Jim, I see you talking about un-employment and how bad it has gotten. What do think is going to happen to that number when you start cutting all of those Government jobs you mentioned? Whose fault will the high un-employment be then?
Jack, a point that is being overlooked is that all dollars earned by government employees are dollars that were taken out of the private sector. Those dollars will revert back to the private sector where they will be spent which will create productive jobs that do not strain Federal spending.
Would your opinion, Jack, be that we should just keep the government employees employed for the sake of the unemployment numbers? If that is the case, we should all be employed by the government then we would have full employment.
Jack: It will again be the goverments fault. The goverment built this monstrosity and now it's going to have to come back down to earth or we all are going to sink. Let me ask you. Since the private sector is losing or has lost jobs left and right who is going to pay for those goverment jobs?
Danno, No. I was simply pointing out that there is no easy solution. Everything is interconnected. It is one of the basic principles of the universe. For every action, there is an equal reaction.
Mike, Those Government employees also pay taxes. So when they get laid off, that tax revenue will also go away. Not only will the tax revenue dissapear, they will not have money to pump into the economy or have any disposable income. They will probably apply for un-employment, which we also pay for. Do you really think that by saving the tax payer the burden of having to pay all of those government employee salaries, the private sector would have so much more disposable income as to offset the difference?.
Jim, I'm sorry, but this is NOT the Governments fault. It is our fault! We the People are the ones who are asking for things that the Government should not be required to provide. It was We the People who spent money on mortgages that we could not afford. Please spare me the argument that they were ALL democrats. I know alot of republicans that lost their butts due to realestate speculation.
Jack, I can agree with some of your points, but ultimately all taxes are paid by the private sector. The taxes paid by government employees are monies which the private sector has already donated. I believe that if un-employment benefits were limited to 3 months or made to be a loan, the impitus to get a job would be greatly increased. It is amazing how many people are able to find jobs just as their unemployment benefits expire.
Thanks Mike. I am simply trying to point out that there are no easy answers. An economy the size of the United States is so complicated, with so many exterior pressures, that one simply cannot say "do this" and it will be all better. I believe that ultimately, it will be the American People who get us out of this mess, not the Government.
Jack, I couldn't agree more with your last sentence in 23.8. The government officials, although they may think they are doing the right thing, most often cause more harm than help.
Look at the health insurance debate we are having today. Do most people realize that much of the problems of today were created by government during WWII? Implementation of wage controls and allowing of fringe benefits to be exempt from those controls was the start of the issues we have today.
We should get serious about the state of the Union: it's dreadful. In fact, one could argue that the foundations of the Union are badly shaken and showing serious damage. "Union," after all, means "joined" or "together," and implies that the sum is stronger than the parts that make it up.
Today for innumerable reasons we are badly splintered as a nation. Our politicians practice divisive strategy at every turn. Our media amplifies division; the most popular voices are those with the most destructive, divisive rhetoric. Most people are so frightened that they'll believe nearly anything that appeals to their emotions and to their romanticized notion of a prosperous past and a safe future. The issues we face as a nation - as a Union - are so inordinately complex, and the pace of change so blindingly rapid, that we can hardly breathe, let alone take time to think through the intricately-woven web of consequences, foreseeable and unforeseeable, that might result from any chosen course of action.
The state of the Union is one of disaffection, of distrust, of cynicism, of despair. The state of the Union is downright desperate.
This is a time when leadership is needed above all else. Calm voices MUST prevail. Reason, order, a less-tense appraisal of facts must prevail so that we can choose a way forward. Believe me, the way forward is simply GOING to be painful. The excesses of our economic "growth" of the past 30 years can't be wrung out in a matter of a year or two. We can't relieve these excesses, and re-set the nation's footing for REAL economic growth, without working TOGETHER. That's going to take leadership instead of demagoguery. It's going to take sacrifice - even sacrifice on the part of those who have made the most and lived the largest over the past 30 years as they have slurped up corporate welfare to the tune of trillions.
It's going to take sacrifice on the part of ordinary Americans like you and me, too. We're simply going to have to pay more and get less. We're going to have to go through a period of real economic pain - lower wages, fewer benefits, an even thinner, weaker social safety net for the weakest members of our Union - before we will reap the rewards of the rebuilding that we simply must do.
It's time to stop screaming at each other, and start coming together in local communities to work together and rebuild. There aren't any welfare queens anymore except in the boardrooms at ADM, General Electric, Citigroup, General Dynamics, ExxonMobil, WalMart, and General Motors. It's time for us to recognize how addicted we have been to the heroin of government spending, and to recognize that this massive wealth-transfer program from the poor and middle class to the wealthiest that's been going on for the last 30 years has really hurt us all. The damage is done - but we can undo some of it, and begin to heal, if we start to recognize that we have more in common than we do that divides us. We can recognize again that we are a UNION - a United States of America - and not simply a marginalized, fractioned collection of people who've been fleeced.
The demagogues out there don't have our interests at heart - they are part of the elite machine that has profited the most from keeping us divided. We need to rise up to reclaim our Union. Tea Partiers and MoveOn adherents both have this goal, somewhere deep down in their hearts, and it's the same goal. These are the groups that need most to get together to understand what we have in common, so that we can begin to tackle the real issues in front of us.
All that the monsters in Washington want to do - and the monsters in New York too, by the way - is keep us apart, keep us frothing at one another, and keep us distracted, while they keep chipping away at the foundations of our Union. Let's calm down and get to work.
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
In response to the overwhelming Nov 2010 voter rejection of his radical Marxist agenda, Obama has embarked on his well tutored, and oft rehearsed, Saul Alinsky tutored verbal "Head-Fake" to the right. A strategy comprehensively delineated in Alinsky's book, "Rules For Radicals", which is Obama's long-standing substitute for the Christian Bible. But, with a $1.7 trillion deficit rung-up by Obama in budget year 2010 alone; and, with the Obama Budget currently on-the-table for the current fiscal year with $1.3 trillion more in deficit spending, what sensible individual will, once again, be duped by the Obama con-game?
Obama has made it abundantly clear, thru both word and deed, that no matter how massive the rejection of his Marxist agenda by the American people, that he will defiantly and forcibly impose the balance of his planned agenda thru executive edict if he is stymied by the voice of the people acting thru their elected Representatives. And in fact, he has been openly implementing that precise strategy.
Obama is the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on America; but, the real tragedy is that we have become susceptible to such fraud. The man has a singular objective, and that being a massive redistribution of America's wealth from the producers to the non-producers. A circumstance aptly cited in the foreign press by the quote: "Blaming Obama, the Prince of Fools, should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their Prince."
Obama is an anomalous catastrophe that has befallen America; and, must be resoundingly rejected and corralled by a Republican Majority in the House, until we can remove him in 2012. You can be certain that the economy will continue to stagnate so long as Obama persists in hyping redistribution as stimulus; and, imposing his congenital Marxist beliefs thru Executive Order on America's private sector. Policies that have introduced crippling uncertainty on entrepreneurship and investment, the wellspring of job creation and sustained economic growth. The most egregious being Obama's intentional imposition of "skyrocketing energy costs" via his Executive imposition of his economically destructive "Cap and Tax" policies. With a private sector background limited to that of a community agitator for ACORN, Obama repeatedly demonstrates that he's little more than a "buffoon" when it comes to economic policy. Greg Neubeck
Bill, all Greg did is lay out facts. Obama's actions are in fact well aligned with Saul Alinsky's writings. Where do you feel he is being less than honest.
Obama faced an economic calamity which had been brewing since 2006-2007 and spiraled into a full-fledged major recession due to what? Bush's SEC and banking oversight groups who not only dropped the ball, but allowed companies to sell toilet paper as quality investments.
And, let's not forget trillions of dollars spent since 2001 on our "homeland security", fighting in 2 wars and funneling money to buddies' companies, the least of which being Halliburton.
So, when Obama took over, we had to act quickly in fixing the banking issues, prevent even more unemployment by saving GM & Chrysler, and put in plans to end the wars. And, he put money into the budgets for Iraq and Afghanistan, not going around the system by asking for money in mid-stream. Jobs began to end due to outsourcing overseas, back in the Bush era and no one could convince the companies this was ridiculous. Obama tried as much as possible to correct the inadequacies of our health care system, hoping to lower our individual costs and the largest reason for bankruptcies... spiraling medical costs.
If Obama would be a WASP, would he be as persecuted?
Nick, saying that Bush failed does not make a good case for Obama being successful. Additionally you have not introduced anything which would discredit what Greg wrote. You would be well served to Saul Alinsky's writings. It may make more sense to you why Greg feels the way he does. Socialism is a valid form of government but Obama does not have the luxury of stating so and still getting re-elected. I do not know whether or not you have socialist leanings, but we would all be well advised to understand the methods that leading proponents of socialism propose.
obama "faced" economic straits? and then spent AN ENTIRE YEAR ON OBAMASCARE!!!!! THAT HAD VIRTUALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH JOBS!!!!!
oh, yeah, i did forget....obama and cronies did "focus like a laser" on jobs for entire MINUTES!!! all those "shovel ready" jobs...oh, wait! even obama ADMITTED there weren't any!!!
Greg Neubeck has repeated his messages many times on many blogs and long before Obama was nominated 2008. he cautious reader has to be advised that the impossibly complex and conspiratorial messages have no relation to each other nor any limit on being unrelated to plausible or apparently fabricated facts. National economic issues should be considered important, arguing for the sake of argument, disputes for the sake of being disputations. It is impossible to build positive result using the basic precepts offered by Greg Neubeck to create a solution to any problem economic or social. Taken individually and selective and as positive these concepts do not produce a whole system or plan to be followed. Taken individually and selectively and as negative these concepts do no better to produce a system or a plan to be followed.
Rich, his message was probably less complex than your response and he listed his sources across the board. He could have been more articulate but if you ever took the time to follow up on the sources he has listed, you would find them to be accurate.
Nothing has been fixed. We are doing more of the same that brought us the crash. Borrowing and spending is not going to make a recovery. GDP is up, but debt is up exponentially more. Crash is going to come and when it does, Great Depression is going to pale in comparison!
Deflation is coming. Spending cuts, austerity measures will be deflationary. Many people are lucky to have a job and that is temporary. Private borrowing has stopped. We are deleveraging. That is deflationary. Boomers will retire. That is deflationary. To stop deflation, government is borrowing / printing and spending money. That has limits. Budget deficit is funding almost 50 million jobs if we consider the velocity of money. There will come a time when we cannot borrow anymore and all that is left will be a mountain of debt and no jobs. It is a double dip recession:
Deflation is the reason why people go bankrupt. Foreclosures increase. Companies lay off employees. The money to pay existing debt does not exist. Thus, an entire population cannot expect to be employed at the old salary levels.
Today's problems are not about what we are doing today. But they are about what we have already done for many decades. An entire nation cannot borrow for decades, inflate the money supply with borrowed money and then hope that all will be fine when the pay back time arrives. The cause is in place. The effect will follow. Deflation is coming. Kondratieff Winter has started.
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
Greg Neubeck, the President is NOT a Marxist, nor a "buffoon," but it appears that you might be, or, like Bill notes, with no facts to back up your opinions, you may have well been "intellectually dishonest" in making your comments ... Just what are you so afraid of? I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that your fears are derived from the possibility that President Obama might just be able to convince enough legislators to rein in that tax break for the wealthiest in the country and dip a little into your pocket ... any opinions as to why a pro-rata tax would not reasonable and equitable?
Jack Mack: I have been yelled at, kicked at, called a red-neck, a racist and many other things. But, I have said it and I'll say it again. This has been the most devisive president in my lifetime. You point out the manifestations of that fact.
It's interesting. I don't see him as a divisive figure as much as I see him inspiring reactions that are divisive - but the fact is that the impact is the same. He may be nothing more than a lightning rod, but the impact of him being a lightning rod is still that lightning strikes and a fire starts, and so forth.
From a policy perspective I've been bitterly disappointed in the Obama administration, and from a leadership perspective I've been even more disappointed. It's the latter that really concerns me now, because it's leadership that could start to knit us together despite our many, and often incredibly deep, divisions in terms of our points of view.
I continue to believe that most of us want to see a United States of America that stands strong in the world, that provides opportunity for today's and future generations, and whose leaders are good stewards, rather than selfish greedheads who want only for themselves. There's a lot that's badly screwed up in this country, to be sure.
I continue to believe that - and honestly, I think Obama himself might've said this in his inaugural - there is nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed with what is right with America.
I'd like to see us start working toward that, rather than shrieking about how destructive are the people with whom we disagree. It's only the people who are fomenting that kind of shrieking who are really doing damage, in my opinion.
You are echoing some of the sentiments of the tea party. You should join that grass roots movement to do what is actually best for the people and the nation
how will barry know who to ridicule if he doesn't know where their sitting?
It wouldn't be too hard. You can easily identify the republicans by the distinct smell of bovine colonic excrement...
Repeal The health care bill along with Obama. Both are becoming more of a nightmare as the truth is being told. Words will change the world, Obama's actions have changed the words. What a bag of empty campaign promises.
Repeal Repeal Repeal. 2012 is coming fast. I hope the house can keep him at bay until we can finish the job we started in 2010.....
will he be stepping out of his role as leader of the country and publicly humiliating the supreme court again?
the manchild, your savior, is a farce. in his words, my enemy
You guys "guaranteed" that the health care bill wouldn't pass. It passed.
You guys "guaranteed" that you'd take congress in 2010. You didn't.
You guys "guaranteed" that you'd end health care reform. You didn't.
And now you're "guaranteeing" that you're going to "finish the job" in 2012?
I'd like to see the President make a strong case for the truth.
And on and on.
What makes you actually think that health care reform, as it is today, will not increase the debt? Are you basing this on the numbers given by the CBO? That would be the same CBO that said Medicare Part D would only cost aroung $400 billion by 2013. Well, it is way over that number.
I haven't seen GUARANTEED mention once, except for you toasty. Just keep making things up, it is adding to your credibility. Whats left of it anyway.
CBO, crap in Crap out. This Health Care bill is so riddled with loopholes, the only one paying will be the middleclass, Just another Tax and spend money pit. Can not wait for 2012.
Repeal it along with Obama
Thanks, Phil.
JC, it is important because the tax is part of what was used to calculate how health care reform would reduce the deficit.
The tax only applies to people over a a certain income level and on sale profits.
commonsence: You really believe the stuff they pump at you.
Independents for the repeal of Obama.
Reading this article immediately made me start humming this old Aerosmith chestnut:
Its the same old story
Same old song and dance, my friend
Its the same old story
Same old story
Same old song and dance
Isn't he basically going to say the same bullcrap he said last year?
Yes.
valhalla where did you get that info. I am not doubting it, I would like to read thru it. The HC Money pit, Just another distortion pumped out by the white house.
No wonder they did not want anybody to read it. What a sham the people of this nation had pulled on them.
repeal the bill and obama
Why doesn't Obama just polish off the previous two "State of the Union" speeches about how he's going to "focus like a laser" on jobs?
Then we can all get a good night's sleep and won't miss anything.
Can someone answer some simple questions on Obamacare?
1 - Obama said the cost needed to be kept under $1 Trillion to make sure it was 'deficit neutral'. Where does the $1 Trillion come from?
2 - If insurance companies now have to cover 'pre-existing conditions' and children to age 26, how is that supposed to 'bend the cost curve down'?
3 - Why was the 'Dr. Fix' for Medicare for about $240 Billion left out of the CBO calculation?
4 - Where is the $500 Billion in cost 'savings' from Medicare coming from, and when does it start?
5 - Why did insurance premiums go up an unprecedented 20% in the first few months after Obamacare passed if it was supposed to 'save money'?
Just asking.
It's really funny how the GOP is dismissing the CBO's assessment that the health care reform will save $230 billion over the next 10 years. They didn't feel so negative about the CBO's assessments under the SAME DIRECTOR 2 years ago:
Senator John Coryn:
Repeal obama
obamacare is doomed....the requirement to force someone to buy insurance is unconstitutional...they would have to force everyone, whether they own an automobile or not to buy auto insurance.
I, for one, am tired of speeches.
Two years of speeches (3, if you count the campaign) and no truly positive steps to bolster our economy or to bring transparency to our government.
I don't have enought TUMS left to stomach another speech from Obama, so I think I'll pass tonight. I don't want to develop an immunity to lies.
Investment = Borrowing money from China
We don't need these types of investment right now, the federal Goverment is like my wife shopping with a fist full of credit cards....
Can't stop her until they are all Maxed out.
The federal goverment need to stop maxing out the USA credit cards....
Stop Spending in washington, their all like a bunch of drunks , can't stop spending.... and obama leading the charge.
Davegstein
Part of the health-care bill have stricter provisions for clamping down on Medicare fraud. The feds have recovered 4 billion so far.Just one small piece of the puzzle.
So how you like them apples now teapublicans?
Seems your entire fight against this bill has been an entire waist of time, not to mention a fraud upon the American people.
Seriously? The Government had to pass a huge health care bill to crack down on fraud? Did you really type that?
?
?
?
?
We will move forward together or not at all?
GO STRAIGHT to H#!! bloodsuckers.
He could ridicule some for spelling "their" instead of "they're".
I guess some of those decline in education statistics are accurate.
First time in a long time that I've said OMG.
Are the speechwriters playing a joke on him?
"At "our generation's Sputnik moment ... we will move forward together or not at all," the president will say, recalling the massive U.S. mobilization of money and resources to catch the Soviet Union"
Our money and resources were spent on Wall Street, Unions, GM, Freddi and Fannie, and Obamacare.... we have nothing left to oppose a real "Sputnik moment"
P.S.
Does Obama not even recall that he cut NASA's funding? What a fool.
Is Boehner drunk? He always looks drunk.
Their sitting? Their what? Oh, did you mean where they're sitting?
Aw yeah, fist bumps and low fives down the aisle. Confetti cannons and flash pots as he takes the podium…..wait, was I watching the right thing?
Leaked documents expose Obama, Bush & Clinton's negotiations for a "just peace" between Israel and the Palestinians as a fraud:
Secret Palestine documents expose sham “peace process”
By Bill Van Auken
25 January 2011
“The Israel policy is to take more and more land day after day and that at the end of the day we'll say that is impossible, we already have the land and we cannot create the [Palestinian] state,” she said...
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/jan2011/pale-j25.shtml
Toast McGrath
#1.4- That was toasty and to the point. Let them continue to pontificate...
More than $3 trillion accounts for the cost of extending tax cuts for the vast
majority of Americans.
What a "crock" of political BS! Obama = too little, too late! It is the ECONOMY stupid!
i love how the sheeple follow there leader. for the first time in american history we dont have a president, we have an immigrant from kenya whose name is barry, who is muslim and a communist. our forefathers are turning over in there graves now. i follow no man, only the rules of god. mans rules are corrupt.
FAIL
Double...
Im going to go laugh myself to sleep.
bdbyace, Have you seen the film?
We taxpayers could save a bundle!
caradjt you are correct, not once was guarantee mentioned, I think it was a "Not just no, but hell no!" to one of those.
This one stuck out like a sore thumb.
Together.
With you, Avenger...
A politician by any other name......
it's actually, they're... not their. their is a possessive like, their dog or their cat. what you wanted to say is they're, like they are. they are sitting. god, this country is so dumb.
I never seen such a contradiction over and over again it all sounded so foolish to me and i am sure i am not alone.
needaplan -
This is how the massive overspending of the government slows job creation:
That's tax payer money in a best case scenario, and MORE borrowed money in the worst case.
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/ir/ir_expense.htm
Looks like lots of tea party stupid responses. America will NEVER heal!!!!!!
More of the same. At the end of the day, ALL TALK AND NO ACTION MEANS NOTHING! Come on 2012
The numbers dont lie, no matter how much the dems try to spin it their way
Unemployed workers, January 2000: 4.0%
Unemployed workers, January 2011: 9.4%
U.S. federal debt, September 2000:$5,674,178,209,886
U.S. federal debt, September 2010:$13,561,623,030,891
Congressional approval, December 2000:55% approve; 30% disapprove
Congressional approval, September 2010:20% approve, 73% disapprove
Confidence in the federal government, December 2000:19% have little or no confidence
Confidence in the federal government, January 2010:35% have little or no confidence
Are we REALLY better off???
The most funny part of His speach.
"If a bill comes to my desk with earmarks inside, I will veto it."
I find the best way to lead is by example. So, I would suggest to Obama to get rid of all those czars he piled on his administration to start with. Show Congress and the American people how he can re-organize his administration to save money. Show the American people that he can lead by example.
I find it impossible that the White Honkeys believe Obama's Jiving BS.
Does anyone remembers this question?
"What's government if words don't have meaning?"
Well, Maybe you can answer this now!
You are right , his speach was empty just words, like "Hope and Change" .
I think we need the Clinton's back so bill and Hillary to straiten this @!$%# out get use back in the green we might need to give hem like 10 years
The problem I noticed in his speech is not his high ideals and lofty goals...it's his lack of a plan to accomplish these goals.
I did however find it refreshing he urged parents to be more responsible with their children's education...maybe that's step 1 in his master plan?
I find oskar's command of the English language to be funny.
Obama will just have bills with earmarks deliverd to the Lincoln bedroom to sign. So he can say it did not come to my desk and I am keeping my promise.
Wanna bet me?
Touchdownplay
The furniture in the White House belongs to the people of America, not Obama. So technically he could still sign bills and claim they never crossed HIS desk. Like Clinton when he argued the meaning of the word "is".
Ya have a point. Slimy politicians.
It's smoke and mirrors time! Watch what he does, not what he says. Remember, it's all about him.
You're worship to the demi-god Rush is showing.
Independents for the repeal of Obama
Hey Get Real
Legislation passed under President Obama
2009
2010
2011
And that doesn't count the over 400 bills the GOP kept from ever coming to a vote in the Senate. Not bad for 2 years, I'd say.
Superlogi--That's some repulsive rant
Thanks for the list RealAmerican, now I know for SURE why this guy needs a boot. More laws, regulations, government offices to pay for, red tape, and dollar after hard earned dollar out of my paycheck.
"Helping Families Save Their Homes Act"???? or "helping deadbeats stay on public assistance" act?? - one in the same. (just to pull one out of the hat)
Not bad ....but only if you define good as losing more freedom, more government interference in your life, more regulation, more debt, more red tape, more lies, more hypocricy and more BS in general.
You are correct....show me through your actions....not your words.
replytoj001
Witchking
For every democracy, socialist state, communist state--they all die or morph into a different form.
alarmar, cut it out. New and inexperienced Viners - and I'm sure there are a lot of you - check out the rules. Here's the first one:
Issues and arguments. No need to try to read the minds of people you disagree with when reading their words is much easier.
Is Tyler in time out? These boards are odd. It's a collaborative effort on all sides--collapsing comments all the time. Free speech is a good thing--stop playing with it. No matter what form it takes--as long as it's without threats.
Hey RealAmericansFirst: that's why we are 14 Trillion in debt. Your credit cards must be maxed out just like the USA.
Dear MSNBC,
Please delete posts from an old article.
Thank you
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOTU speech:
"I will VETO any bill which has pork."
Been there numerous times before, same old rhetoric.
Obama ???
Will wait and see what happens very shortly.
Garcher,
That is a pretty sad list of made up "Acts" that you have there. It would amaze and sadden me if you actually believed any single one of those were true!!
Quit spewing nonsense and lies!!!
Where is YOUR self respect and dignity!?
Nancy Pellosi is on Fox News, right now, lying and spinning everything. I think that I am going to throw up.
I saw Nancy on there, gretta tried to keep her on track. She is a treat.
Repeal obama and the money pit of a health care bill.
@realamerican
Here is what I am tired of paying for--
Do me a favor slodon when you find out let me know also. Because I am also tired of paying for the things others seem to get for nothing.
How about rebates to all the people who fund these programs and get no benefit from them.
slodon, great post , but you missed a few.
Well those were just the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.
Jimmiesgirl you did come up with some I didn't think of.
Tyler why did you ONLY take one of the Dem/Lib to task and ignore every Rep/Con/Tea personal attack?
Your partisanship is showing
The free College program is a huge expense is correct. And some of these kids are in top College's and we are paying for it.
I have heard "smoke and mirrors" before. It was right after his last SOTU address. I suppose stalling 15% of the bills in the senate can give one that impression, but the other 85% that passed definitely reflected his agenda.
Of course productivity will go up when average joe is doing the job of 2-3 people with a threat of layoffs hanging over his head.
slodon you also forgot:
No it's about AMERICA. Stop the politics and get to work.
Great post at #2.24 by jimmiesgrl ! Fairly simple, direct and to the point.
SLODON
This is one of the best posts on the web.....THANK YOU!! We can't put it any better, so it bears repeating. This is EXACTLY what these programs are!
"Try to comprehend the hypocrisy of a Congress that requires every citizen to prove that they are insured.....but does not require everyone to prove they are a citizen"
great post. thanks
The post is pretty good..., but I think you may be off a bit on your dates...
great post but they fall 8 days apart.
You can't tell time and we are suppose to respect your opinion.
I think the comment by luis went way over some of your heads. Great comment luis!
Phil did not see his shadow today, so that means Obama will be gone sooner than later.
It was a good effort at humor as a few of the commenters didn't know any more than you did.
.... perhaps dave d ..... perhaps, but still phuny. (a good joke IS at least 85% truth)
If you sincerely believe that, we will become a nation with baboons intelligence.
dave d, can you not spell or are you just a poor typist who doesn't bother to proof before he hits submit? geez!
You apparently don't either.
Clearly the "creature of little intelligence" makes posts on here without knowing the standard calendar... DUH!!! (it's not "witty" if the poster is a retard)
the ground hog day thing is close enough for me!!
Tonybeem...
Uh Generic, what word did she spell wrong?
We taxpayers could save a bundle!
Did you notice how the Speaker failed to join the applause when the President said we need to stop giving away billions to the oil companies?
Do the teabaggers have calendars???
Is that a rhetorical question?
Here, I have one, too.
Will grunt ever add anything to the discussion?
Anybody notice that the Naval officers were about as stoic as Mount Rushmore, in fact they looked pissed off.
Also remember he is not king barry he can only do what the congress allows and they can be replaced if enough people wake up!
seems like some already have as i remember from last November .
Who is you guys?
Tonybeem...
Gomer? LOL I must of struck a chord, eh? When you have nothing to say, call them names...real mature there, Tonybeem.
Libs are so funny...
Tonybeerm,
Good one... posting "but I could have called you..." is the same as calling the names, now isn't it, Tonybeeerm.
You are so very transparent, Tonybeeerm...typical Lib response!
It must really irritate you to know that you make me laugh so!
The ecomony is self correcting if the existing rules of governing are correctly applied.
Mike Kerr,
Does you seriously believe that the disintegration of the American financial and manufacturing sectors would have been good for the country?
Mike:
Didn't GM have something to do with our winning the last world war...against Japan (Honda and Toyota)?
Yes they did. Are you inferring that their current and ongoing incompetence be paid for by the tax payers because they did good deeds 80 years ago. And... I don't believe we have ever fought a war against Toyota or Honda. You've got to let go of the past my friend. Japan is now an ally. The times have changed.
Ever hear the old adage, Edmund Burke (1729-1797) statement, "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it."
An economy will only correct itself if GREED is not the dominant factor.
that's what capitalism is, pure and simple.
Your a classic example. A brainwashed idiot
Zip--I gave up TV 2 years ago. It seems as if everyone feels a personal responsibility to parrot their favorite news source. It's brainless sh*t.
honestly from what I see the proof is what we have.
Mike Kerr-374135, you have layed off 50% of our nation's employed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Economic_sectors_and_income.JPG) by saying that bailing out industry is a bad idea. Currently, most of these businesses are not only thriving but have repaid the government.
I suppose an unemployment rate of 50% is exceptable to you.
"It's a great big club, ...and you ain't in it!"
And you probably both drive foreign cars and buy only consumer goods made in China sold by their marketing arm, Wal-Mart.
Want to help the American econmy? Buy an American car that gets better gas mileage than what you drive now.
Always buy american, hire american. No room for green cards whe our own people can not find work. Close the boarder to illegals. Go AZ
Contrary to what Rush and Beck say, Roosevelt didn't extend the depression for 8 years, he wasn't even in office for 8 years before the official end of the depression.
thank you Eric for bringing up ACTUAL history--It is a rare thing in this crazy day and age.
Id have t think he meant 1929...but Roosevelt was not President then....hmmm
Whatever
Still a another mess caused by greed under a Republican
Excuse me, Eric and llh1958, but the U.S. didn't enter WW2 until 1941, after Pearl Harbor. Before that, we were lending the British old equipment and weapons under the Lend-Lease Act, but not officially participating in the fighting.
The most productive 2 years in generations?
How about the most destructive!
Perhaps one person's progress is another's destruction...
Well, we can't expect much from barefoot hillbillies.
What Obama has done is nothing to brag about and in far to many cases, something to hide.
twentylilfurrytesticles......... simply amazing.
Get it while you can!
TenAngryHamsters = twentylilfurrytesticles
ROFLMAO!!!
Independents for the repeal of Obama
You very astutely dodged my questions, Caradjt. Don't worry, were I in your place, I'm sure I would have dodged them too.
And incidentally, the president stopped the depression you people caused in 2007. That's pretty productive in my book.
Repeal Obama
(and still selling them as "securities", which is what caused this economic mess we're in)
Tell us all about "deregulation" toasty.
Wait... Now you're FOR regulation?
We're for RESPONSIBLE regulation, not a complete take over.
By 'responsible' I take it you mean whatever puts pennies in your pocket at the expense of others. Got it.
oh, GOODY!!! hamster's back!!!
get ready to RUMBLE, rodent!!!
ROFL!
who do you think you are, hamster, to make "assumptions" from what someone else says?
as usual, when faced with REASON, you or someone LIKE YOU, seem to go into to immediate ATTACK mode...
you can "take it to mean" whatever you want, sparky...but WE WILL TAKE IT TO MEAN WHAT THE POSTER MEANT IT TO MEAN...
and we will VOTE to ensure that you...people...don't have the insidious influence you managed to have for so long....
just like we did in november..
So let's see....lowering lending standards led to bad loans being packaged as derivatives, which, due to Glass-Steagall being repealed, were purchased by deposit banks thereby risking individuals savings. Signing NAFTA and the WTO agreements led to an enormous trade deficit and massive unemployment due to the outsourcing of manufacturing and service industries (and that fed into foreclosures and bad loans).
Sorry Toasty, pretty sure most conservatives didn't view Clinton as one of "our people"....although I do get the feeling he's one of "yours".
psst Toasty...here's a hint....you're next argument is "Wars of Lies"
marry me cheryl, love the comments, so direct and percise. i'll leave this seed for you destroy at will.
oh boy...donedone is back....so much for a civil conversation....
and you must be the clone of olbermann i take it.
Crap, you're right Joe, I should have added a sentence on Iraq...
donedone--Are you an escape from my space? Grow to f**k up!
@joe
Joe, he simply mis-spoke! The word "will" should have been the word "won't"!
We taxpayers could save a bundle!
ROFL!
watch your "chosen one" dance on the state of the union, toasty!!
with the exception of you 47 olberman fans who are slobbering all over yourselves, america KNOWS who's responsible for the mess we're in....and it ain't tea PARTIERS, sparky!!!
we've ALL watched obumbler stumble and bumble his way into a morass that spells the doom of your "cause", sparky!
heck, sparky, there's going to be more people watching the pre-game o'reilly/obama "interview" on supebowl sunday than there will be people who watch obama "dance" through his state of the union address..
poor little fella!
ROFL!
Anyone reading this can see why we are in the mess we are in. What is
wrong with all of you? What happened to civil discussion and rational
thought? Can't we disagree without name calling and hateful statements? Instead of wasting time on these commentaries I
suggest we all volunteer ONE HOUR to help some charity we believe in.
That would at least be productive instead of the incessant abusive discourse.
I couldn't agree with you more. Right on!
So Alan, just out of curiosity, what lies are you accusing him of? I mean, your president was eating cake too when he crashed the economy in 2007.
soooo, let me get this straight, toasty...
one of your favorite liberal "song and dances" is to try and say that obama is OUR president and "deserves respect", etc. etc. etc.
yet here you are in ALL your "glory" saying that PRESIDENT BUSH WAS NOT YOUR PRESIDENT???!!!
c'mon, toasty, let's spell this word together, shall we....h...y...p...o...c...r...i...t...e...
ROFL!!!
Good point donedone, but didn't ya know that liberals are ALLOWED to be hypocrites!
Been ignoring Toasty for quite some time. I can't believe there are people who still read his garbage!!!
Toasty who?
'A rising tide drowns all those who don't own yachts. '
End of insipid Reaganaut analogy.
donedone, I supported Bush during the terrorist strike, supported him during the Afhganistan invasion.
Yeah, and to make things worse, he has to do it with the same people who originally poisoned the patient standing in the room with him.
have you "forgotten" HOW MUCH WORSE IT'S GOTTEN since obama took office???
gee, obama's "efforts" to "move the patient to recovery" FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS, seemed to be a bit "focused" on the wrong things, eh, libs?
obamascare, porkulus, bailouts, "deals"...
and whole MINUTES "focused like a laser" on jobs....
ROFL!
SQUIRM, libs....SQUIRM!!!!
2012 is coming. We will finish what we started in 2010.
Repeal Health Care and Obama.....
He also prevented the depression you teabaggers tried so hard to bring about in 2007.
Independent and working for the repeal of Obama
b-psyco.....their profits are climbing because the jobs are overseas (forced there by unions, high taxes, and over regulation), and the manufacturing is overseas (forced there by unions, high taxes, and over regulation).
All in the name of Obama's "social justice" of course.
hey, fleabagger (yeah, you toasty)...lemme see...hmmmmm....who controlled the purse strings in 2007?
OH YEAH!!!
nasty pelosi and crew.....
and where were the tea PARTIERS in 2007?
OH YEAH!!!
ROFL!!!!
poor little toasty...
carjac What would a right winger know about education?
The independents and moderates put this guy in there, we will remove him in 2012.
gpotts –
Take your meds tutu, and you will feel better !
"laser like focus"
bwaahaaa
Hey mitch j, I think Obamas words "We will not REST until..." somehow got "CHANGED" to "I will not rest UNTIL I get a hole in one"!
Until government and the media starts shooting straight from the hip (you know, telling the truth about matters like the REAL unemployment figures...how bout 15-20%)...anything Barry and the media tells me is a waste of airspace.
blah, blah, blah.
40 pages in AZ repub today....people will not take jobs that pay less than they believe themselves worth.
Why should they when they can sit on unemployment payments and not go out and work two or three jobs to support themselves and their families.
Best of luck to you!
Thank you. I will kick a$$ again in the Corp world. Every day is one less day I have to wait until I can start again.
For anyone who is still uneducated on the economic collapse, why it occured or who is to blame please use the link to educate yourself. The statement of "IT's Bushes Fault" is so old and incorrect it is funny. The documentary is from Frontline Via PBS a liberal station to say the least. Although I do enjoy watching the same lefties pulling their foot from their mouth, its getting old.
www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/warning/view/
Independent and not voting for obama
The only way to get jobs back in the USA is for our government to stop making it cheaper to do business elsewhere. Oh wait I forgot Large corporations and Wall street run our government and they do not want that so it will never happen.
I don't know if your second sentence was sincere or sarcasm. If it was sincere, I would have to question why business would want the American public to have less money to spend on thier products? If the purchasing power of the American public is down graded, the demand for their products will also diminish, at least here.
hmmmm...lemme see here....who did obama just pull to be his chief of staff while he was stripping his staff to go be his CAMPAIGN MANAGERS IN CHICAGO?
OH YEAH....the CEO (and not a very good one at that) of one of the BIGGEST "evil" corporations!!!
think much, 96?
ROFL!
Pro business Bush and republicans 4.6% unemployment
Anti business Obama and democrats 9.4% unemployment with a record 20 months above 9%.
Clearly capitalism creates jobs and socialism destroys them.
donedone, you forgot to mention to 96 that Obama in a campaign promise stated he would rid the white house of corp influence and special interests.
Ilemmlt is not corp influence he works (wink, wink) for us now...........
Get the teleprompter. It is the B.O. show brought to you by, and written by George Soros and company. Who is that man behind the screen?
Be careful, or Nancy Pelosi will get you and your little dog toooooooo! ;)
What is it with you guys and the teleprompter? Do you that Bush Jr or Senior did not use one? What about Reagan? Every President has used a teleprompter since they were invented! Get over it.
Careful or John Boehner will get drunk and fall on your little dog...
So now that Ted Kennedy is dead and gone we have a new drunk to take his place? Hey, has Boehner drowned any one lately??
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
We taxpayers could save a bundle!
Hitler used "baby steps" also, and he was very sucessful... at destroying EVERYTHING! BTW, Hitler was ALSO a Socialist!
NAZI's were ultra-conservatives? That's so funny I almost pissed myself!
ope the piss was warm, because I stated fact!
BTW...look it up on a real source not a faux website... that's where ya find the losers and 2 brain celled people...
That's OK! I'm used to the libs trying to "CHANGE" historic FACT into BS!
JMcD: Straight ... and flush. Nice hand.
If he is elected to another term God help US.
hmmmm....kinda like the "recession that would have occurred" if obama hadn't "taken action", billy, which, according to YOU, is a "fact", billy-boy???
Independent and working for the repeal of Obama.......
We thought he was the real deal, he turned out to be the same old same old.
2008 we were told change. 2010 we screamed back CHANGE.
Now we will change it in 2012.......
The only change I have seen from this President is Less of it in my pocket.
oh, it "can't be facts" if it's AGAINST your liberal "cause", billy????
what's next, sparky...if we say anything against your "chosen one", we're racists? (gee, that would be "new" from you fleabaggers....)
you think november was bad for your "cause", billy? watch what happens in 2012....
The man simply asked what you are basing your staement on. I would kind of like to see that as well. Is that too much to ask?
The independents want people who can govern and the republicans have proved time and time again that they cannot!
livin' in lala land, aren't ya, "smokeem"....
sparky, it's no longer "bush did it" (debunked ad nauseum)...it's OBAMA IS DOING IT....which is FACT...
sparky, we've still got a pretty big garbage bag to fill with the rest of your "people" in DC in 2012...including obama...there's room for some reps if they don't act right....but the focus is on the crooked dems (LIKE A LASER...)
Obama said in his address to Congress he wants "millionaires" to give up their tax cuts?
I have a better solution to save even more money for our Nation, why not have all the politicians in Congress, the Senate and all former Presidents of these United States give up their pensions after leaving office.
We taxpayers could save a bundle!
Rosiy, by your name you should know.
Maybe they should all sit around and pass a bong. They might actually quit fighting long enough to get something done!
Nope bad ideal to work while high on dope !

Prepare to Bow. . .
BOW...
Bow damn you...BOW! ! !
What A F'ing Embarrassment...Damn Barry...
Bow wow, BO!
Jack you seem to be getting very quiet.
On that we can agree.
Now...thats what I like...a civil discussion...we need more of this...my thanks go out to those who are debating and blogging with class.

Where do you feel he is being less than honest.
facts and liberals RARELY "get along" very well....
So, the contracts with Halliburton have all been ended and we are no longer in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Nick, saying that Bush failed does not make a good case for Obama being successful. Additionally you have not introduced anything which would discredit what Greg wrote. You would be well served to Saul Alinsky's writings. It may make more sense to you why Greg feels the way he does. Socialism is a valid form of government but Obama does not have the luxury of stating so and still getting re-elected. I do not know whether or not you have socialist leanings, but we would all be well advised to understand the methods that leading proponents of socialism propose.
nick...poor, poor little nick...
obama "faced" economic straits? and then spent AN ENTIRE YEAR ON OBAMASCARE!!!!!
It is a double dip recession:
www.kondratieffwavecycle.com/double-dip-recession/
Deflation is the reason why people go bankrupt. Foreclosures increase. Companies lay off employees. The money to pay existing debt does not exist. Thus, an entire population cannot expect to be employed at the old salary levels.
Today's problems are not about what we are doing today. But they are about what we have already done for many decades. An entire nation cannot borrow for decades, inflate the money supply with borrowed money and then hope that all will be fine when the pay back time arrives. The cause is in place. The effect will follow. Deflation is coming. Kondratieff Winter has started.
i'm just siting on the fence watching and waiting for the fireworks.
Well said!

This time i do agree with obama all the liberal millionairs and billionaires should anti up including himself.
Well said.
He did call me his enemy, a 20 year Navy Chief. How is that for divisive?
Jack Mack:
You are echoing some of the sentiments of the tea party. You should join that grass roots movement to do what is actually best for the people and the nation
