Sex is for two things in my opinion. Reproduction, and enjoyment. Since homosexual intercourse is not for reproduction, I think it's fair to say their interactions are for leisure.
Watching baseball is something you do for leisure. Playing video games is for leisure. I'm all for treating people equally, but I get tired of this "in your face" junk. Your sexual preference is a HOBBY, not a LIFESTYLE. I mean, if your orientation is natural in your mind, fine, so be it. But trying to force recognition as a "community" or a "people" as if you're a persecuted race seems a bit over the top to me. If you are the way you are just for being born, fine, come to terms with it and accept it. Your logic is terrible. Gays are not trying to gain any level of rights over Heterosexuals; rather they only want to be equal to everyone else: by having the right to marry who they want. This "the gay agenda is being forced down our throats" argument is one of the weakest arguments that's ever existed. Either the gay rights movement is right or it's not - that is, either gay rights are good or bad. If you think they're bad, say so - and accept that you're against gay rights. If you think they're good, then there's no predetermined pace for these things to move at.

1. The article is about gay rights. Just because we care about the safety and well being of gay people, that does not exclude us from caring about others who go through the same things. However, THIS article is about gays, ergo, we're addressing gays.
2. Please explain how you're paying for their life and rights. Are you suggesting that every person in those categories is on welfare? If someone is illegal, you aren't paying anything for them, because they can't receive it. If you're so-called "paying" for their rights, then where are they? Why would we even be having this conversation if you've already done this.
3. Are you implying that the only people who have morals are heterosexual, legal, white, men? Women, blacks, gays, latinos, asians, indians, native americans, none of them have morals? Those are all minorities and you claim that their, "life and rights are bought and paid for by those of us who actually have morals." That directly implies that you think all those groups don't have them.
4. Is it moral to make generallizations? Is it moral to discriminate? Is it moral to deny others the rights you enjoy based on who they are and not what they've done? Please name a time a gay person has in some way injured you and caused damage, just by being gay. In what substantial, proven way would you be harmed if gay's had equal rights.
5. Name one right you will lose by gays gaining theirs?
For every religious anti-homosexual quote you can pull from the Bible, I can pull one pertaining to love, compassion, and acceptance.
My apologies to the good white men (and in some cases women) out there, I'm sure you far outnumber the idiots, but it seems to me that demographic does an awful lot of whining. I would go to work, earn a living, pay taxes, go out for dinner and so on.

Teaching your morals to your kids has nothing to do with exposure. If they are not exposed to it now, they will be exposed to it later. Unless you plan to keep them in your basement with all access to the outside world restricted, that is. Hiding things will not make them go away.

Morals to my kids have everything to do with exposure. When I teach them one thing and media (even the news articles) is constantly showing this lifestyle as the 'norm', there is a huge issue with exposure. Again, obvious, but you failed to see it.
And I am not hiding anything, I just don't feel they need to be desensitized by shows, songs, news, parades and the list goes on and on. The shows on tv today would have never been accepted 20 years ago. Now there is a bad comparison. Bestiality is the sexual abuse of animals for human pleasure. In this matter the animal has no say, that is equal to rape. A homosexual relationship on the other is consensual, if it is not consensual then it is rape as well. And about your choice of words ('sexual preference' and 'lifestyle') I see where you are coming from. You are assuming that being homosexual is a choice. And in light of that, am I to assume you are choosing (prefer) to be straight, but you are sexually attracted to both men and women?
I believe the use of drugs to be wrong, yet they still show it in the news and in TV shows, some even glorify it. Yet, not seeing it will not stop drug use from happening, or from affecting the life of my kids at some point in their life. Just as seeing it will not hinder my ability to teach my kids that it is morally wrong.

This might be shocking to you, but not everyone in this country shares your "morals", and therefore they do NOT get to dictate who may or may not do what. The law looks at us, or should look at us, stripped of all excess baggage (ie gender, sexual preference, color, religion). There is no room in the law for religous morals/judgments. Dennis - I understand the anti-survival concept, however, do not believe this to be biologically correct. animals share resources like food with their immediate genetic relatives. based on how close the genetic resemblance is the larger the fraction we are willing to share. Thus gay animals are less likely to reproduce but VERY significantly increase survival odds for offspring of closely related brother and sister progeny.

And, as much as I am standing up for gay people's rights, and pushing back against empty Obama-slagging, I do think it's a bit hollow for the US to be talking about gay rights when gay people can't even get married in the US. I worked as a nurse for 18 years and I am here to tell you I can't come up with one straight christian kid from our community that had STD's, anal tears, or anal sphincters that were stretched.
To clarify my stance, I think what 2 consenting adults do in their bedroom is up to them and as far as I am concerned keep it there. I am in FULL support of allowing a civil union between gay couples. That union should include the rights that a married couple have. No I dont think a gay person should be told they cant be present if their partner is sick and/or dying. In fact I have never heard that the patient does not have the right to choose who sits beside them. The patient has very clear rights. As far as most legal issues their are powers of attorney, beneficiary rights etc... that do allow gay couples to have rights from their partners.
As far as your knowledge of teen sex let me help you along there. Oral sex is what they are doing to remain virgins and studies show that the majority are opposite sex couples doing this. The minority are gay teens and as far as anal sex thats where the majority of that behavior lies as well, with the gay teens.

Civil unions should include the same rights, but do not. Not even close. That's the problem. Some of the rights can be sued for, or petitioned for, but they have to go get a lawyer. Some hospitals still, as a matter of course, won't let "them dirty gays" be the next of kin. A gay person who has a civil union in one state is not "cilvilly unionized" in the next state, so as long as they stay home, they are legitimate. Ridiculous.

No, the gay child's well being should be no higher than the straight child's, but it should be no lower. This is what I am fighting for. I am not a victim and never claimed to be one. I also never said "you"hated christians unless you have placed yourself in the gay population I spoke of. You playing with martyrdom here not me. Her daughter came out. In America marriage is a secular legal contract. What you do in the privacy of your church is irrelevant to your marital status. And FYI, not all Christians are bigots like you - many denominations have no problems with gays and recognize same-sex marriage.
Let me clarify something for you. I did talk about age-appropriate content, didn't I? For example:
At age K-3, teach kids that their bodies are their own, avoid bad touch, be respectful of themselves and others, understand that all people are different in some ways, the same in some ways, know how to eat, wash, take care, etc
Grade 4-6, many kinds of families in the neighborhood, straight, gay, religious, non-religious, black, white, Muslim, Jew, etc. All should be judged on who they are.
Grade 7-12, human sexuality - how to protect themselves, understand risks of all kinds of behavior, know what rape is, know how to avoid exploitation. In this discussion, there would be some discussion of different kinds of sex, as kids WILL start experimenting at this age. Informed is armed.
Does that concern you? Am I the boogeyman? Schools need to form their curriculum because some parents will hide from the discussion and NEVER tell their kids anything, some will tell their kids to go hassle the fags, some will do their job properly and educate their kids well. The risk is that the kids who learn nothing, or learn bigotry, infect the others, sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally. Ignorance is dangerous when kids hit puberty.

I am ashamed of the United States for having such a wishy - washy president, who only appears to be interested in getting re - elected. It is NONE of our business what another country does with their politics, religion, whatever. That would be like me going to my neighbor's house and telling them they HAVE to go to church, or they HAVE to be Democraps, or what color they have to paint their house, or...... wait a minute - that's CC&R's! We already have some of that. But I understand why so many countries dislike the US - we think our lifestyle is the greatest, and everybody must live like we do. Hogwash! We no longer represent the family unit, dedication to our country, "one nation under God". Because of all the "minority groups", everything we stood for is disappearing. Minorities shouldn't be attacking Americans - they should be going after the real bigots - in our government - the ones who won't support the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. Under those two documents, EVERY person born or naturalized in the United States has the same rights as everybody else. Period. Fight for that, and stop embarrassing the rest of us. No government can function when it is not supporting "government by the people, for the people", and is instead supporting "government by the minorities, for the minorities". It was intended to cover the GENERAL portion of the American people, which we ALL are.

Bill - do you think the next question needs to be how gay people have sex? Do you really think a kid in grade three wants to know what gay men do in bed? Is it not possible to tell a little kid that sometimes a man and man can love each other, and sometimes a woman and a woman can love each other, and they can want to be a family together? The general portion of the population should not have the ability to deny the basic human rights of a smaller, yet still significant, portion of the population. No one is talking about taking anything away from straight people, I am simply advocating for straight people to stop interfering with gay people's lives, under the vague banner of religion or "that's yucky." As for teaching kids that there are gay people... ARE there gay people, yes or no? If you answered yes, we all have to "accept" (bad word, but you get the idea) that gay people are part of our communities. There is not a chance in the world that of a medical or genetic condition that a man needs or has to have another mans penis in some part of his body the same applies to women and their genitalia as well.
Just because some foolish study points to the fact that hormones are screwed up in some people that leads them to a predisposition of craving the same sex does not mean they don't have a choice. The only possible medical reason or cause would be mental, and we both no that is wrong as there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing to be gay!

There is no study that has been done that shows that homosexuality is a voluntary reaction. Heterosexuality is not a voluntary reaction (did you choose? I didn't.). It is not only "hormones" that are different. In homosexual women and heterosexual men, there are certain patterns of brain activity that are similar - as are patterns in heterosexual women and homosexual men. Homosexuals who realize their orientation later in life have EVERY incentive not to admit it (their marriages, their children, their jobs, their financial status, their religious affiliation, etc) and yet do so anyway because it is the only way they can live an honest, happy life - and they do so at enormous cost. No one would "choose" that.
If you truly argue that the "choice" is acceptable, well, you're on the path to understanding, but as long as you use the word "choice", you really lose your credibility. Your position is simply not supported by the evidence.

A straight person who has no homosexual inclinations will not react violently to a gay person hitting on them, instead they will politely tell them that they are not interested. A repressed gay man may react violently when he is forced to address those taboo urges. Some may be out and will respond with interest. None of them are acting outside of their biology and none are making a conscious choice to be gay or not.
The attraction is not a choice but as always a person chooses whom they have sex with.
As for bisexuality, it is true that homosexuality is more favorable in the mainstream media and I can see it being cool to SAY you are bi, even though you are primarily interested in one or the other.
Sexual attraction isn't a dichotomy but is rather a sliding scale. Some people who are primarily homosexual in their attraction have a small amount of attraction to the opposite sex and similarly some who are primarily heterosexual in their attraction have a small amount of attraction to the same sex.
Mostly relationships are about who you can fall in love with and live happily with. I wouldn't be happy in a relationship with a woman, and I would probably resent her because I felt no physical attraction to her.

Really? So then, why is that I, as a lesbian is the US armed forces, until December couldn't even think about living my life openly IN GOVERNMENT without risking my career? I do believe I have been gainfully employed since I was 16, live in a neighborhood (except for when I'm stationed overseas), and yet have had to hide my life from the people I work with for over a decade. How is that being treated equal?
And now that the DADT repeal is on its way to being implemented, well, I still don't have the equal right to marry the woman that I love. I will have to fight to prove that the children I hope to have one day rightfully are mine if my partner has them and we seperate (which I hope never happens). I still can't claim her on my medical insurance because, what do you know, even with the DADT repeal we still can't marry because the federal government won't repeal the defense of marraige act.

As a gay, well educated, soon to be sworn in (to citizenship) legal permanent resident of this country I am proud to see what the president is doing. Until this year I was questioning if I should consider accepting american citizenship, after all why bother becoming a citizen if all I would be is a second class resident... Increasing levels of acceptance and positive political headway are giving me more hope.
For all those who question this action, and feel things are shoved down your throats; were you aware that less then a week ago a gay american philadelphian was stoned to death in Philadelphia? Were you aware that the reasoning used to justify this action was based on the old testament? I personally try not to judge people based on their faith, however, events like these frustrate me beyond believe. So lets just say that while some of you may feel that this is pushover and overly empathetic I think you got the easy side.... at least you don't get stoned to death for having a girlfriend, or asking someone out for a date.
As for the matter of biology choice and so forth... if you question the nature of my/our sexuality let me assure you it is not a matter of coice, nor is it an attempt to gain popularity or attention. None of these would be achieved by choosing to be gay. It is a matter of nature... When a gay man can get stoned to death in Philadelphia, can you imagine what the live of gay men and women is like in Turkey, Uganda, or the middle east? I think it is very appropriate to ensure that gay women and men in countries receiving U.S. aid are not mistreated based on their sexual orientation. When we support the schooling of women in the middle east why not also encourage them to embrace equality among different sexual orientations? Why not also broaden acceptance for the GLBT community? By pushing for acceptance and education we prevent problems before they arise.

This whole discussion reminds me of many years ago, the nudists were "coming out", trying to be allowed to be nude in public. They got nowhere, so formed their own hidden communities, out of sight of the general public, and have never been heard of again. Now, they have their own lives, and our respect. I think it is very good that everyone has equal rights in this world, just cause one is either gay, bi or lesbian doesn't mean we don't love the same as straights love the opposite sex. We don't call y'all rude names like you all call us. It's called respect and equality
