Last week Wasserman-Schultz said this is a private matter and even remained quiet all week. The other day Pelosi said it was up to the Rep and his constituents. In early 2007 my office did a study that found that over 85% of registered sex offenders in New York City live less than five blocks from schools, and 670 sex offenders live within just two blocks. Some offenders are even closer, permanently residing less than 500 feet away from unwitting parents, educators and children.

Along with several colleagues in Congress, we introduced & passed the KIDS (Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators) Act of 2007, a bill to require sex offenders to register their e-mail and instant message addresses with the National Sex Offender Registry. The “Kids Act’ implemented one of my six recommendations to keep a closer eye on sex offenders both near school grounds and online. I also proposed stricter GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher enforcement of registration laws and more public disclosure of sex offender data.

Sadly, the Internet is the predator's venue of choice today. We need to update our strategies and our laws to stop these offenders who are a mere click away from our children.

We don't vote for people based on their political careers. What do we remember Clinton for? Some vague "economy was good" thing? CRA, TARP, some other acronym he may or may not have anything to do with?

Presidents get credit for and are remembered by only the things that don't fall in the spectrum of their political control. Most of those things were either private or the fault of congress or a number of other unavoidable factors. The same goes for congressmen: when have we ever judged them retrospectivelybased on their political careers? Politics is not in the public consciousness. We don't understand it and we don't care about it; we just pretend that we do by substituting irrelevant topics that we do understand that have nothing to do with whether a person is actually fit to do a good job as a politician.

The fuss is (or is to the smart people anyway) over the fact that when he was caught, he tried to lie his way out of it by trying to blame someone else for his own actions (a 'hacker' did it!) I'm not really blaming you for your inability to see this because I fully understand that lying and blaming your actions on others is standard everyday business as usual for politicians these days. This tends to 'blend right into the forest' for most people such as yourself, while 'sex scandal' (gasp) grabs you right by the nose and pulls you in. Here's a perfect example. Sending tasteless pictures is NOT a sex scandal, sex crime, or remotely illegal, but it sure did rope you in didn't it. Yet, not a word about the REAL crime here, lying during an investigation by trying to blame it on somebody else (Obstruction of Justice). But I do stand by my comment that that is the ONLY illegal thing that he did (Obstruction of Justice). In fact, it occured to me that there might not even have BEEN an 'investigation' had he not gotten it started by lying and intentionally pointing the investigators in the wrong direction. But nobody cares about that, it's the 'dirty pictures' that draws in the crowd.

Hi PC101. I do agree with you as far as Weiner's character. Morally, I consider him slime if only for how this must feel for his wife, both emotionally and as far as embarrassment public and private. I could not imagine putting my wife through something like this. I would have the 'good taste' to at least divorce her before trolling for babes on the internet. Without a wife, I would consider him pitifully desperate to send out lewd pictures of himself. But as far as politically, it was his lying that concerns me, though such a poor and immature quality of judgement would also concern me as a person who may someday have to abide by laws that he votes for. Why men in his position with his prestigious job, money and benefits have to troll the internet for girls, pay for prostitutes, etc. never ceases to amaze me. I'm getting carried away here. Sometimes the end justifies the means. So in that case, whatever you have to do, whatever you have to say he did, he's a proven liar holding office, and whatever it takes to get him removed, so be it. I just wish all the others who should be removed would get equal treatment, not some get protected because of how many 'friends' they have or how important they are to their political party or how the 'other party' might gain control of that seat if they're removed.

@ David Levin -- His constituents are backing him en masse, so I don't think it would be best for them. And as far as Democrats go, he's one of the few that stands up to the GOP and doesn't let them dictate what he should or shouldn't be supporting. As far as him twittering his junk, that is behavior that is done by a lot of people. As far as him lying about it, that's how regular people would react if they got caught.
