I'd vote for the green alien from Mars before Obama............YEAH, that's right..........Obama parties/campaign fundraisers, 2 wars , state controlled media afraid to call terrorists what they are, open borders in the US, 9.2% unemployment, and borrowing 40 cents of every dollar from China and other countries who hate us . TIME TO PUT DOWN the Obama kool-aid.
16 Months is along way off Dragon. I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. I'm sure there will be plenty more oppurtunities for Obama to show his lack of leadership skills, flip flopping on every issue, making promises that will go unfullfiled, etc..
The Republicans engineered the debt ceiling crisis and you can see what the markets did. Now, the Republicans are making the FAA workers work for free and we aren't collecting 1 billion in revenue that we need in these desperate times.
The economic slow down started after the Republicans took the house. The spending cuts with no new revenues will stall the economy and lead to more unemployment.
The Republicans know this, and are counting on the economy being in the dumper as their only way to win in 2012.
Watch more obstruction for anything that would help the economy or help with jobs by the Republicans.
Leona: It is people like you who have gotten idiots elected to Congress....you don't care what the candidates beliefs are, what their values are, what their standards are...you just won't vote for a candidate because of his party...bet you did not like President Obama from day 1 of his term...bet you hated the fact that President Obama was elected and have been whinning about him ever since.
@Leona: I'll vote for the candidate that will enable us to get to Mars. And rather than concern yourself so much with what others are drinking, you might want to rethink your beverage selection.
and he would have done all those things if he didnt have to go up against the republican supermajority of 40+2 or 3 blue dog dems in the senate.
seriously. tea baggers love to complain democrats havent done anything, but they all cheer their senators on when they threaten to use filibusters to stop anything from going through the senate. such a dishonest argument.
i will give you the bill posting and lobbyists though. because i have a gram of honesty. you should get some.
One thing is certain and that is Obama now has spending breathing room and he will burn through it in about 18 months or so. This means, assuming he gets re-elected, in the first couple of months in 2013; he will be right back to insisting congress raise the debt limit once again. In the interim, Obama begins speaking once again about jobs being the number one priority, and his solution will be enacting more expensive programs just like all the previous expensive programs he previously tried that failed.
However, in 2013, when the debt ceiling needs to once again be raised, the country will not look quite like it does now. There will be higher unemployment, higher inflation, lower credit ratings, and a crippled economy. His Marxist power base will no doubt attempt to attach the blame for his failures to someone or something.
@Shawn; there is some truth to that (although with the clear signals from the GOP at the time, it was obvious it was only going to stall in Congress and nothing else was going to get done - a stated goal of the GOP). The truth is that this whole debacle shows that many people are still Democrat-leaning and not necessarily very liberal, but they are disgusted with the spineless, disorganized Democrats that have been sent to Washington..... and many are regretting not pulling the lever for Hillary when we had the chance --- I know I am right now.
yes. obama never said anything when he was running for office that he would go into afghanistan because pretty much everybody knew bin laden was in afghanistan.
nope. seal team 6 was just out for a stroll in the afghan country side one day, and just happened to bump into bin laden.
and he would have done all those things if he didnt have to go up against the republican supermajority of 40+2 or 3 blue dog dems in the senate.
So you are saying that earmarks, lobbyists , negotiations not on CSPAN, bills not being posted on line is the republicans fault?
seriously. tea baggers love to complain democrats havent done anything, but they all cheer their senators on when they threaten to use filibusters to stop anything from going through the senate. such a dishonest argument.
Oh and by the way, independents like myself who he is going to need won't be there this time.
One more thing, he could have easily raised taxes on the rich all he has to do was veto the bill which would have allowed the tax cuts to expire.
President Obama will be re-elected in 2012 - just look at the dismal GOP candidates....not one of them will EVER win a presidential race.
That is correct. Look at what the GOP has to offer: the reincarnated Joe McCarthy (Bachmann), a flip-flopper (Romney), a pizza man (Cain), and a secessionist (Perry). These guys may be good enough for conservatives but independents will view Obama as the lesser of the two evils regardless of their opinion of him.
Obama parties/campaign fundraisers, 2 wars , state controlled media afraid to call terrorists what they are, open borders in the US, 9.2% unemployment, and borrowing 40 cents of every dollar from China and other countries who hate us
It's so funny how conservatives think that history and the recession began on January 20, 2009. Those 2 wars you're talking about, the rampant borrowing, and high unemployment - we have BUSH to thank for those. As for the so-called "open US borders", if I recall correctly, Bush was actually in favor of a guest worker program. So if all these things anger you, why don't you grab a history book and look who got all of it started...
as for the negotiations not being on cspan, are you referring to what republicans called 'backroom deals' for healthcare votes? once again, the only reason he was cutting deals was because he had to go against the republican supermajority of 40+2. the bill would have passed with no deal in an up down vote.
as for the bush tax cuts, once again, you are being dishonest. republicans held unemployment hostage, the same way they held the debt ceiling hostage, in exchange for extending those tax cuts. obama never wanted to extend them, not for the those making about $250k, and you know it.
you are not an independent. you are a dishonest amnesiac who thinks that sitting on the fence shouting pretending to criticize both sides must automatically make you right, and that everything president obama has done has happened in a vacuum.
Hard to believe he could be "setback" even more than he already setback himself;
Obama’s approval numbers hit all-time low
"Just 40 percent of Americans say they approve of Obama’s performance as president. That is down three percentage points from Thursday. 50 percent say they do not approve of the job he is doing.
Just 41 percent of the public said they approved of the way Obama was handling the debt-ceiling negotiations, while 52 percent disapproved, according to another Gallup poll released Thursday.
Obama has also lost ground against a generic Republican challenger — getting 41 percent of the vote when matched with an unnamed Republican who polled 40 percent.
Obama’s approval rating is below that of former President Bill Clinton’s lowest approval rating during the government shutdowns of 1995."
So much ignorance in the political blogs. While many of you so called patriots admit you would rather vote for an alien or even satan than for Obama, all of your reasons I've seen posted are backwards.
"Obama parties/campaign fundraisers" that EVERY politician engages in, yes even the green alien from mars would participate if they were stupid enough to want to be the leader of an idiot like you.
"2 wars" Are you upset about the starting of the wars (Bush) or the winding down of Iraq and focus on Afghanistan?
"state controlled media afraid to call terrorists what they are" Another invented reason not to vote for the black man. Perhaps the rhetoric has been toned down some from the cowboy mentality of Bush, but that is good for our reputation, I'm so sorry it doesn't feed your bully of the world complex.
"open borders in the US" even though the Obama administration has deported more illegal immigrants than any other president since Eisenhower. If this is truly your concern you should be cheering your president instead of lying about him.
"borrowing 40 cents of every dollar from China and other countries who hate us" Perhaps if you were to put the Limbaugh koolaid down you would realize that the major buyer of our debt is us. So that 40 cents on every dollar that we borrow is pretty much borrowed from ourselves not from some boogeyman you try to scare your children with to scare them into obediency. Speaking of which I've been buying U.S. Bonds because that is what true patriots do when their country is in a downturn. We used to know that as a country, we used to support the efforts of our government almost universally across party lines.
Nowadays people are more inclined to stock up on guns bullets and beans than to invest a single dime in the welfare of the United States. You who post this drivel against your country deserve the fall your country will take because of it. All the guns bullets and beans in the world aren't going to change the fact that you are too stupid to survive without your evil government protecting your six.
Eric, can I tease you with a bit of logic for a moment? If the big bad republicans are beholden only to the single master, Money, why on God's green earth would they intentionally tank the market? Isn't that entirely contradictory- we'll show them how much we love money but intentionally losing lots of it through ruining the stock market! Man that will really get 'em!
once again, the only reason he was cutting deals was because he had to go against the republican supermajority of 40+2. the bill would have passed with no deal in an up down vote.
he had to have Harry bribe 5 within his own party.
as for the bush tax cuts, once again, you are being dishonest. republicans held unemployment hostage, the same way they held the debt ceiling hostage, in exchange for extending those tax cuts. obama never wanted to extend them, not for the those making about $250k, and you know it.
So you are saying lack of leadership with a majority congress at the time was the issue?
you are not an independent. you are a dishonest fool who thinks that sitting on the fence shouting pretending to criticize both sides must automatically make you right.
Ah yes, when a liberal can't get his way try to insult the person to prove your point. You and your breathren on the far right will bankrupt us soon enough.
newsflash: large corporations have been posting record profits, and ceo bonuses are at record highs, and the taxes they are paying are at record lows. republicans are doing a very good job for their corporate masters.
large corporations have been posting record profits, and ceo bonuses are at record highs, and the taxes they are paying are at record lows. republicans are doing a very good job for their corporate masters.
You are only half correct. It is funny how both sides accuse each of of this when it is blatantly evident this is occurring equally on both sides.
You said: "That is correct. Look at what the GOP has to offer: the reincarnated Joe McCarthy (Bachmann), a flip-flopper (Romney), a pizza man (Cain), and a secessionist (Perry). These guys may be good enough for conservatives but independents will view Obama as the lesser of the two evils regardless of their opinion of him."
So you're saying you would prefer to stick with the clown we currently have.
The truth is that this whole debacle shows that many people are still Democrat-leaning and not necessarily very liberal, but they are disgusted with the spineless, disorganized Democrats that have been sent to Washington.....
Are you trying to say that this country is a Center Left Country? Historically, and the latest Gallop poll proves it. We are not a Center Left Country
Bottom Line
The U.S. political culture is a broad mix of conservatives, moderates, and liberals, with conservatives continuing to be the largest group by a slight, but statistically significant, margin over moderates. This pattern first emerged in 2009, driven by increased conservatism among independents, and has since persisted. Partly as a result, the country is more polarized today than it was in 1992.
@Thinknaboutit - excellent points and well said. We wine a lot about things that we can fix ... or are being worked, we're just not helping as much as we could.
yes. and that is why you saw democrats everywhere cheering the citizens united ruling, and railing against financial regulation and mocking the notion of public campaign financing.
not to mention how much democrats hate unions, civil rights, and environmental protection regulations. because those are so bad for business. i remember when democrats were saying that expecting BP to pay for the spill damages was a chicago style shakedown, and a shame on human kind, that made unicorns and babies cry.
and he would have done all those things if he didnt have to go up against the republican supermajority of 40+2 or 3 blue dog dems in the senate.
Really??? Well what about when the Democrats had total control over all Congress BEFORE the Republicans were voted back into the House? Still doesn't explain all the failures during that time.
Some a$$hole was just on TV. He said he accepted the committe position for 1 reason, making O a one-term POTUS. Don't let it happen. He is only doing what he can. Der gop is more concerned about fear-mongering,being in control, and having their way AT ANY CO$T.
Jobs, jobs, jobs is what they should be doing. Call them out on it over and over, the same way they program their followers.
yes. i was referring to that point in time. democrats had 59 seats, a few of which were blue dog dems, and liebermann. event WITHOUT those blue dog dems and liebermann, they had a simple majority.
for two years, democrats indeed had a majority in both houses. and everything that passed the house went to the senate to be filibustered. what is it that you guys dont get about that??
you may have followers who have good inetentions and the republicans the same but don't fool yourself the rank and file in each party march to the same masters.
The tax code isn't 16,000 pages of manipulation for special interests because of just one party. The legislation regarding campaign finance and lobbyists is not one party legislation. I hate to break it to you but 14.5t was not rung up by one party.
Until the zealots on both sides stop enabling these clowns nothing will change.
The plans to get bin ledin were made before bo took office all he did was give the order to do it. Something this takes time. Black opps most of the time don't happen over night, everything has be in place, timing just right and etc. It just happened that everything came together and bo was able to give the order. Unlike clinton who had several chances to get him bo did it.
nope. sorry dude. both sides dont do it. there is no two sides about asking BP to clean up their spill. there is a right side and a wrong side. and the right side is that side that has been saying that this would happen for decades, and the wrong side is the side that kept on insisting that it could never happen.
and this is analog across other issues. democrats want serious government, republicans think that government is the problem. and they are wrong. government, like everything else in this world, can do good things and can do bad things. it can be done correctly and can be done incorrectly. if you dont believe that, you should not be anywhere near it.
or two years, democrats indeed had a majority in both houses. and everything that passed the house went to the senate to be filibustered. what is it that you guys dont get about that??
And, yet, they still managed to get the Obamacare package passed notwithstanding all the Republican ire against it! What happened to all the alleged filibusters, then? You cannot have it both ways.
I respectfully suggest you review the history of the Polish people under the iron curtain, and see what an over centralized, powerful government always leads to. pay particular attention to the seizing of assets, false accusations upon citizens of being terrorists/subversives, the elimination of religion, indoctrination of youth, mass executions, death camps, etc.
This is what President Obama said yesterday about creating jobs,
A deeply frustrated Obama, while praising Congress for finally passing the compromise bill, demanded legislators immediately turn their attention to fixing the economy and creating jobs. "We've got to do everything in our power to grow this economy and put America back to work," he said, shortly after the Senate voted 74-26 to pass the measure.
An American company is ready to put 8000 people to work, all they need is an approval on a loan guarantee from the D.O.E., ….the same approval that D.O.E. gave to French Government owned Areva on May 21, 2010. Read the brief summary that follows, or Google USEC DOE Loan Guarantee, and Areva DOE Loan Guarantee.
USEC applied for a $2 billion loan guarantee from DOE in 2008 to build the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio that will support approximately 8,000 U.S. jobs during construction. When complete, the ACP will provide low enriched uranium to fuel nuclear power reactors in the United States and internationally.
“USEC has been working diligently with DOE over the past several months to conclude the review process for our loan guarantee application, and we appreciate the attention they are giving to the matter. We are working hard toward a successful conclusion, but we have not been able to conclude the conditional commitment process before June 30, which was the outside date for the next stage of the Toshiba and B&W investment. This standstill agreement provides the limited additional time needed for DOE to complete its review and reach a decision during July,” said John K. Welch, USEC president and chief executive officer.
I guess 8000 jobs in Ohio are just not as important as building a good relationship with the French!
Oh yeah, the President should probably take Piketon, Ohio off of his campaign fund raising tour...take the Areva executives to dinner instead!
lol. healthcare reforms was filibustered for a YEAR. it included many ideas that republicans themselves invented. it had over 110 republican amendments, about 40 amendments introduced by democrats.
it met republicans more than halfway time and time again and republicans, like they repeatedly do, moved the goalposts every single time.
here is the thing that i dont get: obama and democrats CAMPAIGNED on healthcare reform. it is not like they campaigned on rainbows and unicorns for everybody, then just pulled a bait and switch. they campaigned on healthcare reform and they were still elected. why is it that healthcare reform couldnt just go through with an up or down vote? what do republicans have against democracy?
it can be done correctly and can be done incorrectly. if you dont believe that, you should not be anywhere near it.
Zaruski
So you are going to tell me that one side is responsible for the manipulation of the tax laws and all that is wrong with campaign finance laws and lobbyists laws. You are either a blind zealot or purposely having a contrarian view.
You either have zero grasp of political reality or are so blinded by your ideology that it is impacting your ability to see the truth.
Leona and the like, you're bigots. I understand. If you think that I am wrong NAME ONE liberal policy that Obama has done. Health care- Republican plan. DADT started under bush. Obama- tax cuts extended, wall street reform nope, environmental regs stalled/nope, credit card reform- nope, elizabeth warren- fired, spending cuts- over a trillion, wars- expanded. Just be honest with yourselves. You, unlike the left, believe his empty campaign promises and that got you all white and bothered. Look at his actions- he has been BUSH minus spending. He has been more conservative. Judge him for his actions: he is a phony liberal. A VERY conservative republican in democrats clothing. HE IS ONE OF YOU. You're just too racist to see it. If you disagree, NAME ONE LIBERAL policy that he has done. NAME ONE. Don't say obamacare or dadt- those are republican ideas: mitt romney's plan was to the left of Obama's plan. Obama's plan is from the heritage foundation. DADT was going to be overturned by Bush. SO NAME ONE LIBERAL POLICY or ADMIT that you can't stand Obama because he's black and that just makes you nuts.
Obammie is going downhill fast now, he will even have an opponent in the Democratic primary. Watch and see.......hehehe hahahaha. I can't wait until the elections in 2012, it will be so sweet to see the Dems out in all 3 branches of Congress. Wait until you hear the big whiney squeal from the left!
I don't think anyone is claiming that one party is responsible for our complex tax code. But Democrats are the ones trying to get rid of the loopholes and return to more progressive tax rates.
Still nothing. Bigot Bigot Bigot. Name one or you are just a bigot. Name one or you are a racist bigot. Democrats know he's not on our side because of his actions not words. So name one just be honest that you can't handle a black man in the white house. Name one or I am right bigot. Bigot. Bigot.
being independent for the sake of being independent is a ridiculous idea. right is not the mean between two opposing ideas. you cant just sit there and say that both sides do it because there is nuance.
if you have the choice between drinking battery acid and drinking soda, you will choose drinking soda even though soda is not healthy for you. what you are suggesting is saying that well, neither are healthy so i am just going to die of thirst.
conversely, if you think that you always have meet in the middle, that we should drink detergent.
lets first establish that drinking baterry acid or detergent is unacceptable. eliminate the bad ideas on their face. we can then try and sort out and improve the ideas that we know are viable. lets be reasonable and drink coke for a while. maybe we can switch to diet coke at some point. and then hopefully water.
but dying of thirst or drinking detergent are ideas to be ruled out on their face.
I don't think anyone is claiming that one party is responsible for our complex tax code. But Democrats are the ones trying to get rid of the loopholes and return to more progressive tax rates.
I believe in order to fix it it has to be shredded and re-written with language that does not allow for loop holes and or any manipulation by our lawmakers. trying to fix the current code is like the proverbial plugging the holes in the dam with your fingers.
The pathetic performance of President Obama in the debt debate is showing the left how incompetent and weak a leader it selected. Many are wishing they had Hillary Clinton in the White House instead! Once the man has to move beyond a set teleprompter speech, he is lost. During the BP disaster, he showed what a poor administrator he is. And now he has belied any pretensions to legislative skill. He is the un-Lyndon Johnson.
The consequences of this disillusionment will be profoundly felt in the 2012 election. Republicans and independents will vote against Obama with their hands. Democrats and liberals will do so with their feet -- by staying home. Turnout was the key to Obama's 2008 electoral majority. The vote among under-30 whites, African-Americans and Hispanics set new records. Obama won, after all, about the same share of the white vote -- in total -- that Gore did in 2000. He only won because the young white turnout offset defections by middle-aged and elderly whites, black turnout rose from 11 percent to 14 percent and Hispanic votes rose by 1.5 percentage points. Any diminution of the white-hot intensity of enthusiasm that animated his 2008 election will cost him dearly.
Bill Clinton was successful in his bid and reaped great credit with independents and moderates for fashioning a third way between liberal demands for deficits and conservative cuts to Medicare. Obama's attempts to portray himself as pushing a "balanced approach" proved laughable in view of his surrender at the end. And his deal-making to resolve the problem resembled a surrender far more than a compromise. He's no Henry Clay.
I do have to thank Obama for his ability to greatly increase my holdings in gold and silver! Lol gold was under $700/oz in 2008, now it is approaching $1700/oz and silver is doing much better! Thank you for that Mr. President!
Being an independent means being able to decide for yourself (not somebody else decide for you) who you are going to vote for or what position on an issue to take. Being an independent means I can be fiscally conservative while supporting gay rights and a women's right to choose. I can have my own views on immigration reform and still look at myself in the mirror and have self respect for myself because I decided on the issue myself not some party or ideology deciding for me.
Steven B, he didn't have to shove Obamacare down my throat. I embraced it, because I was able to put my 2 older kids back on my company insurance plan. What has a lousy republican ever done for me?
JRI37, he speaks the truth. Obama has done ZERO for wall street regulation. Obama is a 3rd bush term. Everyone should read JRI37. Thank you sir for bringing reality to this forum.
Sounds like you and I have similar outlooks (independent thinkers that are fiscally conservative and socially liberal). I think one of the keys to getting things going again is to get more over the voters to think for themselves and stop following party dogma.
This is fairly common among Presidents leaving office. They either sign something into law just before leaving, or leave something for the next guy to deal with (especially the controversial stuff).
GB Sr had 44 total vetoes Clinton - 37 GWB - 12
Obama only has a few so far, 2 as of last update on Wikipedia.
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
It is fun, entertaining and informative to read the different ideological blogs posted. Some times I agree; sometimes not.
However, as a proud independent, I can think of nothing worse than the GOP controlling all three branches of government after 2012. The American lifestyle would be destroyed in the blink of an eye.
We can disagree about the quality of hotel and service we individually wish to pay for. Is it a five-star at $500 per night, loaded with pampering at a price. Is it a three-star with clean bed linen and a limited breakfast for $100 per night. If we do not increase revenue to balance the services we expect, we have to pick another hotel.
If the GOP controls all three branches, services will be cut to the level of a cheap, fea-ridden motel.

IF you only have enough money for a 2 star hotel at 50.00 a night, THAT is what you get. You do not borrow money from your neighbor to upgrade to a 5 star for 500.00 a night.
The Gvmnt brings in 200 billion dollars in tax revenue a month. I personally think that is quite enough and they need to learn to live within that limit.
Things have to get cut ( which was not done in the debt deal ) so we have a ZERO Deficit spending level. Taxes need to be raised to pay off the debt. There should be no way in hel1 that we should accept a tax increase to balance the deficit spending.
You are missing the point Jeremy. Of course you stay in a $50 motel if that is all you have in your pocket.
Do you really want to give up police protection, EPA, FDA FAA, education and research to keep us competitive, roads without potholes etc. etc. because the uberwealthy want to pay less taxes than their secretaries?
Republican minority leader McConnell admitted today to Washington Post that he took the debt ceiling "hostage" and that some of his colleagues were willing to "shoot it". He plans to repeat the hostage-taking all over again in 2013.
By taking an issue that is routinely passed ~like the debt ceiling ~(Reagan 18 times, Bush 7 times) and using it as a cudgel to get concessions you would not normally get, Republcans are using blackmail and extortion. And this is the third time this year.
McConnell again today, admitted doing just that on record.
Meanwhile, the President's first job is to protect us all from harm and that is what he did. This GOP Chaos/Disaster Party is now clearly exposed as enemy of the people, the President and future of America. Add the global economy to the list.
Bill Thomas (#1.50) hit the nail on the head with his post!
Thanks to Mr. Obama and the Democrats America has begun a new phase of it's great history. Unfortunately it will go down as the Era of Austerity!
Ironically both China and Russia have chided the United States on it's economy. One of the countries is communist and the other one was communist... the irony both of them are right
Filibuster means that is takes 60 votes to pass any legislation. So as often as the fillibuster stops legislation, sometimes they can get 60 votes to pass good legislation. Some times republicans decide to vote for sensible and good programs. It is not often but a few times they have stepped up to help the country. Usually it is because they are not going to stand against good policies just because the rabid republicans are going to oppose all the good policies just for hateful reasons.
Belfast...belfast, don't fall for that mantra about the roads, services etc. How about cutting of some of the billions of dollars in "aid" we send to countries that vote against us in the UN and harbor terrorists? Wouldn't that fund your pothole filling desires? What about all the illegals and their anchor babies we pay for? What about the people that refuse to work and get a monthly check for it? There's allot of fat that can be cut without reducing police, teachers and other services. There is SO much pork put in all these bills by both parties it boggles the mind.
Obama is toast come 2012. There is no way he will be able to overcome the HUGE economic disaster that is about to hit America. Now that our debt is equal to our GDP (14.5 Trillion), we have joined the ranks of Greece, Spain, and others.
I find it amazing that our politicians spent more in one day than ever in the history of America and they spent it the very next day after raising the debt ceiling. So much for cutting spending right?
Democrats still don't get it. We absolutely cannot spend our way out of our economic slump. In fact, the more the Democrats spend, the more at risk they put their cherished entitlement programs. Ironic isn't it?
You are missing the point Jeremy. Of course you stay in a $50 motel if that is all you have in your pocket.
Do you really want to give up police protection, EPA, FDA FAA, education and research to keep us competitive, roads without potholes etc. etc. because the uberwealthy want to pay less taxes than their secretaries?
ohh I get " the point " very well thank you.
EPA is and has been passing laws that have been voted down in Congress ( where our laws are supposed to start ) and is too large and a huge money pit.
FDA seems to be lacking in the ability to do their job. Bad drugs not fully investigated, countless food born disease ect.. FAA, yea they are sleeping on the job and pissing off tax paying americans everyday. DoE is and has been a waste of money since it was founded. Our kids are not getting smarter, and it has a 70 billion dollar a year budget.. I wouldnt mind a reform, of each of thoes departments.
Research I do not mind, but look at what we are spending money on. Do we really need to pay for a study that determins the size of a males minority unit?
Police, Fire, Pot holes are all local city Gvmnt.. NOT Federal and will not be cut.
FDA, yeah.. right. Isn't this the same government agency that is suppose to be "proactive" in keeping our food supply safe? The same group that just issued a level 1 alert recalling 36 million pounds of salmonella infested turkey today? Yes, this is a level 1 alert due to so many people getting sick across the nation including causing one death so far. Sounds pretty "proactive" to me! pffff..
It was signed into law in 1993. Following, that individuals who were discharged due to their orientation had an example of one who was restored to the service in 1994 as a response to non-compliance with the existing defense directive and law signed in 1993.

The Democrats controlled the entire legislative branch of government due to having majorities in, both, the House and the Senate from 1987 till 1994. The Dems had total control of what was sent to the President to sign into law during that period. I thought I would just clarify that, lol.
Whistling past that graveyard again Eric?? Maybe the same graveyard that went 100% for Obama in '08. I heard that even the dead have him at 20% approval rating! LOL
I understand what you're saying Bob but much of what Eric says is true and that is that Obama's Marxist power base would vote for him no matter what. Obama is a Marxist and they know him as one of them, despite his incompetence and the disaster he is to the country, ideology trumps all else.
They know Obama is their best chance to destroy the capitalist economic engine that created the greatest country in history and create out of the ruins a socialist/Marxist workers paradise.
banker - They are doing what the people want, that's why Dems were thrown out in 2010.
Are you saying the people wanted to continue unsustainable wasteful borrowing and spending? Or that the people wanted a fake "deficit reduction plan" based on completely fabricated "war savings"?
It is quite obvious by the constant need of the reich-wingers to post their drivel repeatedly on "liberal blogs" that they have no ideas to run on. Just lies and insults and crossing their fingers that they can convince (or change voting laws and force) Americans to stay home.
Progressive Democrats are the only politicians to propose a plan that actually addresses our debt, and without killing our current economy in the process. It's getting to the point where the majority of Americans know that anything the Repukes suggest is what our country should avoid at all costs. They are the children screaming for icecream and candy at the dinner table but it's time to eat their peas.
Teapugs ran on jobs, jobs, jobs not gutting social security, ending medicare/medicaid and denying women the rights their own bodies. The jobs lie isn't going to work in 2012.
why won't the republicans listen to the PEOPLE instead of just doing what they want??
They are. They were elected in part to cut government spending. That is what most of the public wanted and why it is that they won a lot of seats.
Teapugs ran on jobs, jobs, jobs not gutting social security, ending medicare/medicaid and denying women the rights their own bodies.
They did not just run on jobs. They also ran on cutting government spending, repealing Obamacare, and a whole lot of other related platform stances.
What the Republicans want to do is to reform Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, not eliminate it like Democrats lie about in their propaganda. If they don't reform it and just do nothing like the Democrats want, the current waste in both programs will kill both of them by sometime around between 2026 and 2036. Keep it the way it is and it will be gone.
Think about this a bit. Why would the Democrats really want to keep things as they are, full well knowing that Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid will collapse if nothing is done?
As to women and their bodies, the stance of the Republicans is that taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for private-party abortions. I agree with that stance although I am neither a member nor a supporter of the Tea Party movement. If people want to flush their unwanted babies into a sink instead of adopting them out to couple who cannot have children, that is their choice. But, don't make me foot the bill for it.
Just as an aside, I actually am hoping for four more years of Obama even though I have no intention of voting for him. The only way for Democrat voters in public to see what their party leadership really stands for is to see the results of their acts.
But, above all, remember that virtually no politicians from either party really are for the little people. Both parties have been the cause of the problems we now see. The only way to change that is for the entire public to vote BOTH parties out and replace them all with Independents for a change. Fat chance of that ever happening with all the partisan politicking out there!
You my friend are an interesting bigot because your bigot is also very confused with nonsense. Strangest bigot of all are you. Obama has not done one liberal policy and yet you think he is a lefty. So you are a bigot, but also confused like a puppy on a subway. Name one liberal policy or admit that you can't handle a black guy in the white house. Just one. We on the left know he is not a democrat because of all he has done to continue bush's policies.
I also read the progressives plan (I think it was called the "People's Budget"). I was very glad they included a decent level of detail on how they would like to change the country.
As to the plan itself, there are parts I like and parts I dislike. I want defense cut by 50+%, so I agreed with that part (although I forget the exact % they talked about). As to the economics of the overall plan, it seemed to rely on the belief that people will continue to produce regardless of tax levels, and giving people money does not create dependencies - both of which I strongly disagree with. Still, I think they raised some good points to discuss and I hope that document will get some air time.
I am disappointed the progressive caucus isn't pushing it more so we can have open discussions on what type of government we want to have in this country. I think it would be good for voters to look at this plan, Ryan's budget, Cut/Cap/Balance, the Gang of 6 plan, and the presidents commission plan - then the voters can make an informed decision on which approach they like the best.
As to whether or not it's "American"...everyone has a different definition of what it means to be "American", so I don't think the question (or statement) is relevant.
Obama is NOT far left, he is more like Reagan than any republican running right now, except Huntsman. Reagan would be drummed out of the republican party as a RINO today. The teapubs have taken a sharp right off the cliff.
Regarding the Tea party, whats wrong with their concept of responsable spending? Some folks are pretty hard on the TP.The hate drama doesent seem fair.
"Obama thinks he has an ace in his hand to play. If the committee does not produce tax reform ideas, he will veto any legislation that would extend Bush-era tax cuts for high earners beyond 2012."
If he does, he would be forcing a $3 Trillion tax increase on the Middle/Poor classes, just to try to get another $700 Billion from the 'Rich'.
That doesn't sound like it would play very well with the voters.
Actually, Obama has done a very poor job of 'negotiating'. Not only did the Republicans get $900 Billion in budget cuts with NO new taxes in return for a $900 Billion increase in the Debt limit (which will only get him to early next year), but he gave the strongest hand to the Republicans in the 'Debt Commission' that will have to agree to another $1.5 Trillion in cuts and Debt limit increase - with no requirement for ANY new taxes. If no agreement is made by the 'Commission' (which seems likely), then the Democrats will have to cut another $1.2 Trillion from 'discretionary' spending, again with no new taxes.
By the way, any 'cuts' forced on the military can just be restored by the Republican House as a separate bill, and dare the Democrats in the Senate to block providing funds for our 'troops in the field' - in an election year.
It's a win-win for the Republicans and a lose-lose for the Democrats.
Nothing is wrong with responsible spending. But, something is wrong when you want to cut medicare and give it to the rich, claiming it is responsible spending.
I seen the stock market today. Many more retirement portfolios have been drained, thanks to the manufactured crisis brought to you by the TEA party.
I suspect Obama will not be the only one with a political setback.
When will you guys quit buying into the class warfare? Do you work for a living? If you do, you should be upset with all the money that goes to welfare and B.S. pork projects by both Dems and Repubs. You can't spend more money than you make. You aren't entitled to other peoples money. I work 70 hours a week and by the time my bills are paid, I can't keep my fridge stocked with food. I'm at the store watching people use their Food Stamp debit cards loading up with groceries. They are sitting on their asses and watching TV all day to get a free house and free food.
Actually I do. I have the unfortunate luck of having known quite a few people on welfare. Growing up in a small fishing community, you know most of the people in town. Alot of girls like to get knocked up so they can get a free apartment and food stamps. Party and do drugs until the break of dawn. They really score if the poor sap who got them pregnanat has a job. Then they get child support in addition to all of the above.
Now I live in a large city and have friends that live in some of the seedier areas in town. Lots of drugs, thefts and gang activity. So many people have been trading food stamps for drugs that the feds initiated the food stamp "debit cards" in an attempt to cut back on the drug dealers taking them at 1/2 the face value.
And any one with any self worth or pride would never consider being a leech like that. Welfare was designed as a hand-up...not a hand out.
At no point has Obama looked or sounded like a leader. He has allowed his party and his VP to call the tea party citizens terrorist. They will not use that word for actual terrorist but they call people wanting our government to live within its means terrorist. Sounds more like spoiled child not getting their way.
tamy he's never had an original thought that George Soros hasn't put in his head for him. Soros puts money in his bank account and his commie agenda in his empty head.
uhh...we dont call tea baggers terrorists because they want to reduce the deficit.
we call tea baggers terrorists because the tea baggers get into shoot outs with the police, vandalize or bomb mosques, kill abortion doctors in front of the churches, attack acorn and planned parenthood offices.
perhaps not all tea baggers do it. but you certainly dont see up in arms about these things. on the contrary, tea baggers rationalize and justify these things.
Zaruski, you mean like how the Democrats excoriated the likes of Jared Loughner for the Gabriella Giffords attack? That sort of up in arms excoriation of one (or a handful) of extremists in their own party?
loughner was a liberal? that is news to me. i think thats why obama went and gave a speech condemning him.
funny. i recall a cross hairs on someone's website that was hastily (and coincidentally?) taken down with no justification whatsoever, the moment the incident hit the news. and i also remember how tea baggers on fox news refused to say anything about it.
tea party/repubs don't want to live within ours means they are about scrapping everything !!
No, they aren't. That is Democrat propaganda custom-made to scare the public. It is the same kind of fear-mongering that was exemplified in Bush's alleged plans to draft the youth right out of high school to send to Iraq and Afghanistan, Bush's alleged AWOL military record shown by Democrats using forged documents, and other such nonsense. All were Democrat lies crafted to try to get Kerry elected.
Does the American public remember that they were lied to by the Democrats, though? Nope. Most have had short memories when it comes to stuff like this.
There you go again with mis-information and failed attempts to make a point. And no, I don't recall the "news that Loughners freind all claimed he was very liberal" perhaps you could provide a non-faux link to that article?
While you are at it, I'm still waiting for you to point out all the un-American policies proposed by the Progressive Democrats. You are all bark and no bite, go back to your porch little dog.
And as for the gomer-pyle recollection of history, it was Kerry that was lied about... Bush really was a reject. It may be hard for you to keep the lies straight but as you point out, the rest of America remembers quite well.
Thanks for referring to me as perfection (gomer is Hebrew for perfection) but it is not warranted.
Kerry was lied about by some, too, but everything else about him was the truth and it is a good thing he never did make it to the presidency.
Kerry himself made reference to Bush trying to enact a draft. The Democrats spread that one as far and wide as possible. It is you who needs to actually do what your posting moniker says and remember the history details. The rest of America who do not fall for the repeated lies of the DNC do remember quite well.
Anyone who claims Loughner was a liberal is a complete and utter fool and moron.
He's registered with the Pima County Registrar's Office as an Independent.
He's not a liberal. Period. His pages are filled with Constitutional and anti-Federalist rants. Classic tea-material.
Giffords switched parties to Democrat and defeated a Teabagger candidate. That's why she got the target on Palin's map.
I love the right wing liars who just keep repeating over and over he was a liberal. Yea sure morons, your propagandistic lies are right. The Registrar's Office must be lying right?
Golly Pyle, it really is no surprise, surprise, surprise, that you would counter your lies being called out with even more distortions of history. SHAZAM!
Hurry and read it. This archive may come up missing if people get too much wind about it. Fact is, these kinds of remarks have been spread frequently, so much so that an Annenberg poll found that 51% of young men believed that Bush would reinstate a draft.
We know where that went. It never happened.
In fairness, it was not just Democrats that spread this kind of crap around. Ron Paul himself encouraged these sorts of claims, as did Jonathan Edwards and others of their kin and kith. Even foreign-based websites got in on that action. Anyone else remember the website entitled Bushdraft.com?
I worked in the college system at the time and I can tell you that a lot of young men were afraid, as were a large number of instructors--all based upon lies that they heard from their Democrat friends.
Pyle... are you seriously posting comments from another blog as your source? You really are living up to your moniker.
On the other hand there is the Republican Chuck Hagel who was publicly fighting for bringing back the draft. Perhaps that is why there was fear of Bush, since he is a Republican and there were Republicans arguing for the draft? How dare Kerry use Republicans own words against them during a political comapaign... those Democrats are so unfair. Golly Pyle, this is even simple enough for you to understand... SHAZAM!
Pyle... are you seriously posting comments from another blog as your source? ...
Actually, no, I first posted a link to a discussion board, which was followed by two newspaper articles recording Kerry's claims and hinting around about a Bush draft. You missed those so I can only assume reading comprehension problems on your part. Try a Sylvan Learning Center near you. :)
Chuck Hagel is a Republican in name only. He actually is a Democrat at heart. He even actively supports Democrats politically at times.
But, Nagel's comments are not the source of the Democrat-spread rumors of a Bush draft. In fact, Nagel's comments about it are after-the-fact--which you would have realized had you a decent ability to comprehend what you read.
It was, in point of fact, Democrats who kept pushing for a vote on reactivating a military draft as well as attempting to get into law 2 years' mandatory national service: military service for all able-bodied graduates of High School and other mandatory national service for those who are not.
Even Kerry and Edwards initially pushed for it until they realized that it would not be very popular in an election. When they realized the stupidity of their platform they removed it from their site and tried to bury it altogether. And, yet, they were all the while telling the American public that under Kerry-Edwards the American people could be guaranteed that there would be no draft under them, claiming that it could happen under Bush.
And this was said and done and repeated notwithstanding Bush's own repetitive statements that so long as he was president of the United States there would be no draft.
Still going to distort history and timelines, I see. Guess I should be in this for the long haul... May I suggest a good deprogrammer? :)
Theirs was more comprehensive than the Rangel plan (which plan was the one I mentioned above requiring two years as briefly described), including multiple forms of mandatory national service, up to and including demanding it as a requirement for graduation for high-schoolers.
The Kerry-Edwards plan stopped short of using the term 'soldier' to describe part of this group of those made to serve to help protect the country in exchange for college and/or other considerations. It also left open the option to do one or two years mandatory service.
Funny thing is, Kerry-Edwards used volunteering as a springboard for this debacle. By making it mandatory it no longer would have been the kind of volunteerism that makes America what it is.
By the way, Hagel's comments came on the heels of two Democrats attempting to reactivate the draft, which came in the form of S. 89, introduced by Democrat Fritz Hollings, and H.R. 163, sponsored by Democrat Charles Rangel.
S. 89 starts:
It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States who is between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this Act unless exempted under the provisions of this Act.
It continues by mentioning that said service, which would be for a minimum of two years, could be either in the military or
in a civilian capacity that, as determined by the president, promotes the national defense, including national or community service and homeland security.
H.R. 163 was the House of Representatives version of the bill. But, it was not until that legislation was pushed that caused Hagel--Democrat supporter in Republican clothes--to decide to make the stupid comments that he did about a draft. An earlier attempt was also made by Democrats to push another variant of mandatory national service legislation in 2001.
Essentially, Democrats started that "mandatory national service" crap and Bush was given the blame for it. You see how the mindset of the Democrat leadership works yet? No??? Well, keep working on it. You'll get it someday. Once I figured out was was really going on I departed from the Democratic Party and never looked back.
But, as I have said above, in all seriousness, BOTH parties need to be ousted and replaced by decent, balanced Independents. That is the only way they will get the message from the American people that they are tired of the rhetoric, that they are sick and tired of all the claims and promises of "Hope" and "Change you can believe in" and want real hope, want real change that we can see.
The politicians will get the message in no other way. Only in that way will they get the attention of the American people and stop living and allowing to pass the status quo.
It has everything to do with the current political environment. The Democrats continue to spout off propaganda in order to scare the public into helping them win elections. It also goes both to motive and to establishing a consistent pattern.
You haven't been following the thread. Please return to the beginning, uncollapse a few posts, and read all the way up to the post to which you directed your comments.
The death panels, killing grandma,
You have not read all 2,000 pages of legislation and supporting documentation yet, I see. I suggest that you obtain it from Congress and read it. The problem with government run healthcare is that a panel of supposed doctors can get together and decide that grandma does not really need that MRI to rule out a tumor. She may be placed on a waiting list like what happens in Canada.
The wait for an MRI is often between 6 and 9 months in countries with socialized medicine. That is the difference between an operable tumor and an inoperable one. One could conceivably consider one of these restrictive panels a "death panel" when it comes down to it.
nazi,
Actually, that is a claim that first was made about Bush by liberals. The rest was a play on the kind of Nazi artwork that Obama's organization used during his campaign. And, yes, he did use some of the same kinds of artwork that were used in Nazi propaganda during and before World War II. If he didn't want the innuendo he should not have allowed his publicity machine to use Nazi-styled artwork.
muslim,
He is registered at his school as a Muslim when a child. I have seen the school record. He also can recite the verses of the Qur'an very well in Arabic. He claims that he has become Christian but I have never seen an official renunciation of Islam. And, the church that he attended actually allows Muslims to attend without formally being united to the Church or renouncing Islam.
He may well be the Christian he claims to now to be. Personally, I don't care what religion he chooses as that is his choice, but, the document trail definitely shows that he was Muslim. He claims not to be but he is very careful not to declare a formal renunciation. But, you know how the public is with stuff like this.
Interesting thing is, this "Muslim Obama" stuff was actually started by Democrats who wanted Hillary Clinton to run for President of the US. You need to get your facts straight.
communist,
If the shoe fits... But seriously, many of his stances on things that he promised during his campaign did sound remarkably close to Communist ideology. Of course, who knew that he would suddenly would go the opposite and break half or more of his campaign promises!?
Of course, there is also the move to garner control of American businesses by government. That is a very Communist thing to do. And, then, there is that Communist-styled artwork that his party used as well. He left the door open to the innuendo. But, again, Democrats who sided with Hillary actually started that one.
socialist,
See above.
and job killers
Are you kidding? America has had the highest unemployment rate it has had in a long time since Democrats gained control of Congress and Obama was sitting as President. And, he wants to kill all fossil fuel subsidies and has asked the EPA to conduct a study into the feasibility of taxing Americans for every mile that they drive! Are you ready for $5/gallon gasoline? Are you ready to be taxed for every mile that you drive to work? How do you think this will affect the job market further? Think about it.
was all conservative ones.
Actually, many of these, as I have said above, were started by Democrats who sided with Hillary. It was all too good for Conservatives to leave that alone. But, it does not change the fact that Democrats were the originators of such claims as you mentioned above. You just have to get past the revisionist history that Democrats like to spill forth to cause greater public fear of Republicans.
By the way, my political stance is that ALL Republicans and ALL Democrats must be pushed out of office and replaced by Independents. Neither major party presently is worthy of office.
I think it is way too early for either Republicans or democrats to start crowing. Obama is going to have to make a much better show of leadership if he expects to get re-elected though.
well even though I agree with you about too early to start crowing...I think that Obama is going to be a hard man to beat in the upcoming election. And please realize I am just being realistic as a student of history. Not as an Obama supporter. Even though I am not completely neutral on the subject..nor do I dislike our President as a person. I think he is a fine man.
1st...It is always hard to oust an incumbent.
2nd...He has amassed one of the largest campaign war chests in history..a billion dollars buys a lot of votes.
3'd...Though many are not happy with some of his last minute "dramatic" congressional encounters...things have not gotten so bad for some, that they are not willing to give him another try...The blame game is still considered fair game during a first term.
4th..The Republican Party at this time is terribly splintered. Never before have I seen such dissention in a party. Whoever wins the nomination will probably get the standard Republican vote, but no funds.
and for some reason, no one cares that we are continuing to spend billions if not trillions on costly wars.
rotflol..Judson..me a racist? not in a trilllion years. Sorry, I don't swim in that $hit...
The Hockey Guy...I do believe in this day and age..Barack Obama is a fine man. He appears to be a loving father and husband.(I was speaking of his character without the politics involved and I don't mess with anyones religion(that is between them and their God or not).."I do not make windows into men's souls" Elizabeth 1
and I didn't say there was no dissension in the democratic party(how could we so soon forget the Health Care Fight and those Blue Dog Democrats(God Bless Them;)It s just that I have never seen The Republican Party in such a shambles.
What's with all the wierd quotes. Fine: "A nation divided shall not find discounts" "A trillion saved is a trillion earned. "Ask not what not pick loaf is because it will make you not eat pickle loaf." "Hug a tribble" "Miracle Whip is like a miracle if raining dog diarrhea is a miracle."
It's no setback. He is set up for a great comeback. In every epitomy of the word re-election, he is assured of that. The repubs, in their distain for the american people has given him the peoples vote in 2012. As far as the Dems or lLiberals and most of the Independents are concerned he is stronger than ever. He did what needed to be done for the people and the whole world as far as the economy is concerned. His greatness as a world leader is yet to come. Stay tuned.
Accolins - You either need to lay off the meds or get started on some, pronto.
Obama’s approval rating is below that of former President Bill Clinton’s lowest approval rating during the government shutdowns of 1995."
pjama, the sad thing is, while only 40% Approve of his performance, there's a good chance he'll get a higher percentage of votes because people still think he's a darn nice fella. Can someone explain that one to me?
@accollins - Republicans don't have distain for the American people. Most Independants do not support Obama. Obama has done nothing for the economy to make it any better. He is an utter failure in every sense of the word. You and lose like you could be scratching your head wondering what the heck happened if he is not re-elected. There is a mass awakening heading this way. It may not happen in the next election or even the one after that but it's coming. And your type will still be sleeping when it gets here. I just hope it isn't too late before it happens.
I think the pundits rush to judgement far too soon. Your opinion of whether or not Obama "looked good" is based on silliness. I think most folks recognize that he did not have many options and that he probably did better than many more politicized less balanced individuals would have done in negotiating some kind of deal that did, in some way, share the pain. The real issue is that our democratic system is currently held hostage by a group of very silly single-minded individuals -- whom the media loves to support and whom pundits enjoy investing with power. Perhaps if all of you took this more seriously and with less concern for "ratings", there would be less of a circus-like atmosphere and more opportunity to advance a civil society.
It would be very nice if pundits and journalists would do a better job explaining what is at stake and why it matters that our representatives should be integrated, knowledgable and ethical people. In the current climate, the "crazier the better" approach wins out far too often. Shame on you!
The real issue is that our democratic system is currently held hostage by a group of very silly single-minded individuals -- whom the media loves to support and whom pundits enjoy investing with power.
Yup, it is time to get Pelosi and Reid out of our government.
Rick you are a bigot as well if you cannot name one Liberal policy that Obama has enacted. You are just a bigot. Bigot. Because health care was to the right of Romney's plan a white guy you should not want to vote for him. Ending DADT started under bush and would've happened under McCain. Obama- taxcuts extended, wars expanded, health care no public option or universality, spending cuts bigtime, environmental regs stalled or not enacted, no wall street or credit card reform. So Name One liberal policy that Obama has done or you are just a bigot. Bigot Bigot. Name one or you Rick312779 are a bigot. If you name one, I will apologize.
Well, let's see. Obamacare is a Liberal policy. Who cares if it is right of Romney's its still Liberal, and expensive as hell! How about all the stimulus spending? Let's throw money at a problem so it'll just go away. That is definately a liberal policy. Just look at our schools. Same philosophy has been failing for decades.
Stimulus was started under bush. Again, just get a black and white tv. He's one of you. Know when you've won. Obama is Hermain cain without the greasy pizza stains.
If the American population blames this debt ceiling mess on President Obama, then they really don't know how gov't works. Our Founding Fathers knew their would be differences, that was the reason for three parts, House, Senate and Executive. We are to work together and do what was best for the entire country. As long as there is a part of one of these branches, House, that refuses to work with anyone else this country is in for more of the same. This country needs to continue to pressure their Reps. to do what is best for all of American, not just a select few, Rich & Corporations.
You would be well advised to get a better grasp on just who and how this country got into the mess it's in right now. It wasn't the 'Rich &Corporations" but rather the voting rabble being fed from the taxpayer's trough to buy votes for the corrupt politicians for the last 70 years.... Mostly from your party incidentally! The Dumbocrapic Dum(mascot) Ass party!!!
PFMorris...the three branches of gov't. you are trying to refer to in your post are not the House, Senate and Executive. They are the legislative(which as far as I can tell are both the House and Senate), the executive(which, again if I remember correctly, are the President, Vice President and Cabinet) and the judicial(the federal courts, which are nominated by the executive branch and approved by the legislative branch). Talk about not knowing how they work.
He's just a dumb lib so he doesn't know how our gov't is supposed to work, what the Constitution really means and the this country is supposed to be a Representative Republic, not a democracy.
Of course he probably was educated by our liberal, screwed up, school system so it's no wonder.
Wrong, Obama said just the other day that he, once again, will be focused on jobs. He's been focusing for two years now and I'm surprised he's not cross-eyed.
Shawn the only shovel ready job this moron has created is when a shovel and hip boots are necessary to clean up the hall after one of his total bull $hit speeches
Lincoln said, I do not know if God is on my side, "but I must have Kentucky". Therefore he compromised on slavery.
If the "left" (there is no organized left--this is just Mr. Murdoch's carryover from England) does not like the "debt deal" they should have paid more attention to the Gerrymandering and Fox propaganda, that gave the US a GOP majority in the House, and the white South control of the GOP.
There are a lot of American Republicans and independents who were taken aback by the Tea party's actions. Talk to them, and see if you can persuade them to vote for Obama in 2012.
Or you can sit on your hands, and get the salesman--Romney.
The Tea Party had there input. The parts of the country with the biggest Tea Partry memberships are in the Northeast, California and the Southern Great Lakes area. Go figure. I guess you liberals are saying the folks in those areas are dumber than the rest of the country.
The stark-raving fear of the Tea party by Democrats is amazing, I guess after November 2010 who can blame. They are well aware that 2012 and 2014 will be much the same.
I absolutely do agree, they WERE dumber than the rest of the country, but in couple of weeks we will know if they wised up any or not !!!!
appears to me they got more than they bargained for, not realizing a vote for one of these morons was a vote to end Medicare (which they don't want), a vote to end Social Security (don't want that either), a vote NOT to tax the wealthy(which they did want)
now let's see if they want to take back their vote or not !!!
I do have to agree the GOP field is weak. I also think it is too early to say with any certainty or clarity what will happen in the 2012 elections. But if you want to encourage the Dems/Socialists to be overconfident in a certain and projected victory, be my guest. I am all for that. : )
Let's assume that your statement of the GOP field being weak is valid, which it's not. I'll take "weak" over "stupid" any day of the week. The weak can get stronger... Look at Harry Truman who was supposed to be a weak leader... I think he was underrated as a leader. He became stronger the longer he was in the job. He stepped up to the task. The only thing this guy steps up to is a golf tee. Stupid is forever and this guy doesn't look like he's added any smart pills to his diet lately either.
What is interesting but not at all surprising coming from this biased as usual msnbc article is that Steve Holland cites a poll and that those polled placed 31% responsibility with Republicans and 21% with Obama himself. What did the other 48% of those polled say ? How about a complete picture instead of a white house press job Steve.
I'd have liked to see how many place the blame with the more generic "Democrats" as opposed to just the single President category. Call me crazy but I'm guessing that number wouldn't have spun the story quite as favorably for Team Donkey.
Maybe not so much, Chris. I found the poll. Sure, only 9% of Team Donkey's respondents hold the democrats more responsible, but the independents prove a bit more interesting since we know they are ultimately the ones who decide the race in the end. There, at least according to the Reuters'/IPSOS pole, it seems that Team Elephant may have the majority. At least according to the whopping 600 people surveyed.
You know, a lot of people out there blame this all on the Republicans. Yet they seem to forget that it was the Republicans and only the Republicans who came up with the bills to end the Debt Ceiling problem. It was not until the last week or so that Harry "GREED" Reid came up with his plan to save us all. A plan which by the way was all to similar to the one that the Republicans sent to the Senate twice and the Senate rejected them. If the Senate Democrats had truly wanted to negotiate with the House Republicans, the instead of declaring Boehner's bills DOA they would have taken the time in the early going to pick it apart, take the good things (or at least what they could live with) added their own ideas and sent it back to the House to be vote on. This is how real negotiations work and is apparently a foreign concept in Washington. Don't think for one minute that Obama is innocent in all this either! He spurred the Senate Democrats on to not negotiate by making statements like he would veto anything from the Republicans. Then at the last minute, so he could look like the knight on his white horse, he come in and saves the country by negotiating with the evil Republicans. Well we are beginning to see just how well that worked and I believe we will see fall out from it for years to come.
Face if folks, Our Washington Politicans from the POTUS on down are one big dysfunctional family and we need to get rid of as many of them as possible in 2012. It is really the only way we have to show our displeasure with their job performance and send a clear message to future POTUSs and members of Congress that we will not tolarate such behavior in the future!
THEY CONTROL THE HOUSE! Why would Democrats waste TIME and MONEY coming up with a proposal the Repukes will vote down in a heart beat? That's exactly what they did with their Cut Cap Balance (who do they pay do dream these cute names up?) They KNEW it was a complete waste of time. They just wanted to make a point.
As a tax payer, I don't pay for POINT MAKING. I pay for results, and I been short changed. Again.
what does he care: completing tarp, deviding by race, car company bail outs, cap and trade, qe1, stimulus, obamacare, qe2, 9+% out of work, unions paid off, 18% of us under employed, 15 trillion in debt, deviding by class.
Unfortunately we will still have to deal with his "accomplishments" after he is out of office:
U.S. will pay for half of all health care costs by 2020 - July 28, 2011
"Total health care spending is expected to nearly double to $4.6 trillion in 2020, from $2.6 trillion in 2010.
Health care spending per capita is forecast to increase to $13,708 in 2020 from $8,327 in 2010, the report said.
By 2020, nearly 30 million additional people are expected to have health insurance because of reform.
Over the 10-year period, the report showed that the biggest annual jump in health care spending will happen in 2014 when health reform is fully implemented.
CMS estimates that in 2014 about 23 million uninsured consumers will gain access to health insurance, mainly through government programs such as Medicaid and through the creation of federal and state-funded health insurance exchanges.
As a result, the government expects Medicaid spending to surge 20% in 2014 and private health insurance spending to increase 9.4%.
Norwalk said the estimated sharp surge in Medicaid spending just in one year, is very concerning given that states are already struggling with their budgets.
As millions more gain access to health insurance, the government expects spending on prescription drugs, physician and hospital services to increase as well.
CMS expects prescription drug spending to jump by 10.7% in 2014 and to account for 11% of national health spending by 2020. Spending on physician and clinical services is forecast to rise by 8.9% by 2014, representing 19% of overall health care spending."
Wow. You really don't get do you. The obama care is the same as Mitt Romney and the republican plan. There is not a single liberal policy that Obama has done. tax cuts- extended, wars continue, no credit or wall street reform, no universal or public option, no corporate taxes. I get it. You can't handle a black person in the White House. If you think I am being unfair, NAME ONE liberal policy that Obama enacted. Health care that was a republican plan. Ending DADT started under Bush. NAME ONE or just be honest with yourself. I am tired of codewords and the like. Obama has been MORE conservative than Bush. Bush never signed a single budget cut in his term. You should love Obama. He has done no reform and taxes are super low for rich people. NAME ONE liberal policy that has been enacted and I will apologize to you. Otherwise, be honest with yourself. You can't handle a President that has done everything you ever wanted, but he's black and that's something you can't accept.
You are bigot too. Obama is not democrat and you can't even see it. He has nothing liberal or even centrist. Name one liberal policy that he has done or you are a bigot.
Judson - I don't know who is a bigot and who is not - but I know one thing. You are a moron. Putting you on Ignore so I don't even have to see your stupid posts.
Once again, the superior intellect of President Barak Obama has put a big one over on the Republicans.
1. He knew with the t-par-t majority in the House that he could not get a tax increase. He put out a big plate of compromise (which scared his base) but he knew the recalcitrant t-par-t poopers would reject it no matter how the servings changed.
2. He got Social Security, Medicare, etc., taken off the table for a "grace" period.
3. The starkly stubborn t-par-t guys kept on being starkly stubborn, playing right into his hands.
4. Now, the true patriotic citizens and voters are extremely apprehensive about letting a t-par-t minion govern so when 2012 rolls around the t-par-tiers will be a vanishing breed.
5. The House will again be in the Dems fold for a perfect trifecta! ! !
This had better play well with the so-called independants, because progressives are unlikely to support his nomination not to mention his re-election. I believe he will suffer a rare embarrassment for a sitting President: A nomination challenge at the convention as delegates mount a dump Obama campaign.
Once again, the superior intellect of President Barak Obama has put a big one over on the Republicans.
well if the teleprompter is functioning he might have a shot at what you describe. without the teleprompter ers, ums and ehs sure do spotlight that "superior intellect".
Don, you hit the nail on the head. He can rightfully claim the Tea Party and GOP blocked his every effort and manufactured the debt crisis. People largely do support this position that realistically all that needed to be accomplished was to raise the debt ceiling nothing more. Most people blame Bush/Cheney for their plight and the Tea Party/GOP for their continued losses. The debt ceiling crisis is the debt incurred by the last administration. POTUS had to deal with the bills now due from then. If POTUS can reasonably show he was blocked/obstructed from creating real jobs the election will be a large national flip to blue. People are angry at the GOP/Tea Party already and equate their hardship with them. As people continue to suffer and more are added the worse it will be for the GOP/Tea Party. I agree the Tea Party may very well become a blurb in a future history book.
Think so whambam? Guess you like paying double the money for a gallon of gas then. Like having your house drop in value without a corresponding drop in real estate taxes. Like having the stock market on a rollercoaster? Give me a babbling drunk rather than the babbling fool we have in there now... A drunk can get sober..... a fool is stupid forever!
When W left office the average for gas nationwide was just under $3.75 a gallon. Clearly you have a short and selective memory. I didn't like it then either. So what?
You also seem to have failed to recall your pal Georgie and his buddy Paulson (former head of Goldman) standing in the Rose Garden demand the TARP (their idea) be passed. AFTER the Democrat Congress DEFEATED it.
Try some good adult education classes. Your facts are foggy.
Try using Google and you will see that gas avg was $1.87 per gallon in Jan 2009 when Bush left office. There was a spike for 3 - 4 months in the summer of 2008 under Bush and then the prices came back down. Gas prices have more than doubled since 1 Term 0bama became POTUS and they have stayed there. They are likely to be $5 per gallon at next year's election when he gets thrown out of office.
Obama promised on national TV to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies. If he and the Senate get away with fulfilling that pledge to America, you can count on $5/gallon gasoline--guaranteed.
The question is not how much damage does this does to Obama's re-election effort, the real question here is can he even get the nomination. After clearly demonstrating impotence as a leader, why would we want him running for a second term? I want to see a progressive alternative to Obama for 2012. If Obama is the the Democrat's nominee, I will look for a 3rd party candidate to support.
You clearly do not understand the reality of politics. There is NOW WAY, based on what we know today, that the Democrat power brokers are dumping a sitting president for some unknown.
The reich wing outdid itself by having another 'republican' take the white house after cheney / bush STOLE the election in 2000 and went on to DESTROY the country!
Obama is a lie of a progessive. He's nothing more than ANOTHER reich wing scam played on the american voter! Funny how as long as the republicans are in charge the bigger the hole America sits in gets!
Cheney / bush could steal another election and start a couple baseless wars that cost another 4 trillion! That would probably be a little worse....not by much though.
Cheney / bush could steal another election and start a couple baseless wars that cost another 4 trillion! That would probably be a little worse....not by much though.
Ummm... No.
Term limits are imposed on individuals. If you already have served two terms that is all you get.
The Repukes, Libertarians, Tea Pots and all the rest from the conservative peanut gallery have consistently underestimated the President. They are, however, so arrogant as to be slow learners in this regard, and will shoot themselves in the foot yet again. (Thank God.)
Obama betrayed us. He pretended to be left and the republicans still think he is because they are BIGOTS. If they were not bigots, they would see that he is one of there own. In fact, he is MUCH more conservative than bush because bush NEVER cut spending obama did. GOP shame you aren't color blind because you never had it so good.
Obama can't be re-elected without progressive support. Right now progressives see Obama as a closet conservative. In 2012 it will be about keeping the Senate and retaking the House not keeping the presidency. I predict that Obama will be damaged goods after the convention where he will be forced to put down a progressive challenge to his nomination. At that point he will be unelectable.
The 'CHANGE' Obama was talking about during his campaign was him changing from a democrat to a republican!!!
This JOKE of a progressive leader is taking up space!!! VOTE this A hole out and lets get a REAL progressive leader in office. Then we might actually see some meaningful change in this country and not continue to see it flushed down the toilet under republican/conservative rule!!!
Actually the "change" was him going from a campaigning Democrat to a Democrat with a guaranteed 4 years in office, they can't handle power responsibly.
Sidney you are 90% right. Obama, though, never was a democrat. he was always a conservative. he just doesn't have the Bachman crazy eyes or that polygamist cult thing that Romney has.
The more the reich wing controls the media, changes history and slashes education it will just be a matter of time before we're back in the dark ages! Anything innovative, progressive or science based will be outlawed!
The more the reich wing controls the media, changes history and slashes education
Controls the media? You must be joking.
Changes history? Like what?
Slashes education? We already pay more per student than any other nation.
And for our money, we're losing ground. Mostly because of the ineptitude of the loony liberals in charge of the NEA and the Dep't of Education. Partially because of the collapse of the social structure of the family.
When will the liberals/Socialists realize that Government isn't the solution, it is part of the problem?
# 1 Denmark: $6,713.00 per student # 2 Switzerland: $6,470.00 per student # 3 Austria: $6,065.00 per student # 4 United States: $6,043.00 per student # 5 Norway: $5,761.00 per student # 6 Italy: $5,653.00 per student # 7 Sweden: $5,579.00 per student # 8 Japan: $5,075.00 per student # 9 Israel: $4,135.00 per student # 10 Australia: $3,981.00 per student
You must have been thinking about what we spend on healthcare is the USA;
The United States continues to outspend the rest of the world's 12 most advanced nations on healthcare by a wide margin, according to the latest Commonwealth Fund study. The latest data continues to be a wake-up call for hospital exeutives to try and rethink their cost equations.
According to the study, the U.S. spent $7,538 per capita. Norway, the second highest-spending country, spent only $5,003 per capita. In New Zealand, spending was only $2,683 per capita.
The study, which focuses on a dozen of the 34 nations that are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, concluded that the median spending among all the countries is $2,995. Among the 12 countries examined, the median spent was 8.7 percent of GDP, while healthcare spending was 16 percent of GDP in the U.S.
This is because the GOP likes things the way they are. If they really wanted to fix the deficit, they would allow the medical care system to be overhauled, but no! We spend twice as much for the same medications, procedures, and services as any other Western industrialized nation. The GOP stopped real reform in its tracks, so we have halfway done approach to the issue. Why is it we can buy prescriptions from Canada, pay for shipping them to and from that Nation, and they are still cheaper than we pay here? Think about it. Then ask your GOP representative what he is going to do about it to cut medical care costs? The answer: The Ryan plan for medicare, turn the retirees over to the profit based insurers. 5 years after it goes into effect, medicare will be dead, as most users will opt for food and shelter rather than paying the ever increasing premiums with the ever reducing vouchers. They have no solutions, just as they had no solutions for the debt ceiling, other than cut spending. No end to Bush tax cuts, no increased revenues, and certainly no job creation. They got their way for one reason: They are Economic Terrorists, take no prisoners, let the country go down in flames. Obama had a plan, twice the cuts, but also more taxes. The House said no!. Now look at what we have, downgraded credit, and a direct reference to the political infighting, rather than doing what is best for the Country. Thank you Tea Party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously, you never read your history books in high school or college. Federal spending was exactly what got us out of the Great Depression. Today, Corporate America has over 1.7 Trillion in the Bank inside the US, all profits. There is another 2.6 Trillion overseas. So, where are all the jobs that the "job creators" were going to create with the Bush administration's tax cuts? Corporate America is not going to create jobs. Why should they? No economic incentive to do so. Taxes are low, profits high, unlimited labor pool, all willing to work cheap. They are making more money than ever before, why hire new workers? Do you think they are crazy?
That leave the Fed, just as it did before. Go back and read your history books.
all anyone debating against the POTUS before the general election need do is this: when asked a question, simply extend arms, and swing over/across in one, long sweeping motion until finger tips pointing low towards bam bam. while doing this, use expression on face that says: are you kidding!!!??!!?? you've got to be kidding!!!!!!!
President Obama will be re-elected in 2012 - just look at the dismal GOP candidates....not one of them will EVER win a presidential race.
State Controlled Media? Who finally killed Bin-Ladin? I think you've been hitting the Kool-Aid too.
Dragon,
Fool me once...
Close GITMO
Earmarks back to 1994 levels
No lobbysits in my Administration
Close Coporate tax loop holes
Change political culture in DC
Health care negotiations on CSPAN
Bills posted on line 72 hrs before signing
Raise taxes on the wealthy
Increase capital gains and Dividends tax on 250k earners
I could go on if you want. Those are just the highlights of his principled promises.
@jri37
and he would have done all those things if he didnt have to go up against the republican supermajority of 40+2 or 3 blue dog dems in the senate.
seriously. tea baggers love to complain democrats havent done anything, but they all cheer their senators on when they threaten to use filibusters to stop anything from going through the senate. such a dishonest argument.
i will give you the bill posting and lobbyists though. because i have a gram of honesty. you should get some.
Eric, The Democrats started the debt ceiling mess by NOT passing a budget.
SEAL Team 6.
@Bassai
yes. obama never said anything when he was running for office that he would go into afghanistan because pretty much everybody knew bin laden was in afghanistan.
nope. seal team 6 was just out for a stroll in the afghan country side one day, and just happened to bump into bin laden.
node4, I will never understand why they voted for Obama over Hillary.
So you are saying that earmarks, lobbyists , negotiations not on CSPAN, bills not being posted on line is the republicans fault?
Oh and by the way, independents like myself who he is going to need won't be there this time.
One more thing, he could have easily raised taxes on the rich all he has to do was veto the bill which would have allowed the tax cuts to expire.
So if all these things anger you, why don't you grab a history book and look who got all of it started...
he couldn't veto that bill, and raise taxes on everyone?
@jri37
i agree with you on lobbyists and bill posting.
as for the negotiations not being on cspan, are you referring to what republicans called 'backroom deals' for healthcare votes? once again, the only reason he was cutting deals was because he had to go against the republican supermajority of 40+2. the bill would have passed with no deal in an up down vote.
as for the bush tax cuts, once again, you are being dishonest. republicans held unemployment hostage, the same way they held the debt ceiling hostage, in exchange for extending those tax cuts. obama never wanted to extend them, not for the those making about $250k, and you know it.
you are not an independent. you are a dishonest amnesiac who thinks that sitting on the fence shouting pretending to criticize both sides must automatically make you right, and that everything president obama has done has happened in a vacuum.
Hard to believe he could be "setback" even more than he already setback himself;

Man that will really get 'em!
he had to have Harry bribe 5 within his own party.
So you are saying lack of leadership with a majority congress at the time was the issue?
Ah yes, when a liberal can't get his way try to insult the person to prove your point. You and your breathren on the far right will bankrupt us soon enough.
@Suzy-2005071
newsflash: large corporations have been posting record profits, and ceo bonuses are at record highs, and the taxes they are paying are at record lows. republicans are doing a very good job for their corporate masters.
@jri37
so be it. the bill would have still passed in an up down vote.
seriously dude. look up how filibusters work. there was no lack of leadership. the tax cuts would have passed in an up down vote.
You are only half correct. It is funny how both sides accuse each of of this when it is blatantly evident this is occurring equally on both sides.
UPDATE 1-Wall Street boosts Obama's campaign cash haul
Obama Donations Show Strong WallSt. Support - NYTimes.com
Democrats are darlings of WallSt. - Los Angeles Times
Yes, so that makes it okay. I am so glad we keep enabling this behavior.

Node,
Are you trying to say that this country is a Center Left Country? Historically, and the latest Gallop poll proves it. We are not a Center Left Country
Bottom Line
@Thinknaboutit - excellent points and well said. We wine a lot about things that we can fix ... or are being worked, we're just not helping as much as we could.
@jri37
yes. and that is why you saw democrats everywhere cheering the citizens united ruling, and railing against financial regulation and mocking the notion of public campaign financing.
not to mention how much democrats hate unions, civil rights, and environmental protection regulations. because those are so bad for business. i remember when democrats were saying that expecting BP to pay for the spill damages was a chicago style shakedown, and a shame on human kind, that made unicorns and babies cry.
@dcpyle
yes. i was referring to that point in time. democrats had 59 seats, a few of which were blue dog dems, and liebermann. event WITHOUT those blue dog dems and liebermann, they had a simple majority.
for two years, democrats indeed had a majority in both houses. and everything that passed the house went to the senate to be filibustered. what is it that you guys dont get about that??
zaruski,
you may have followers who have good inetentions and the republicans the same but don't fool yourself the rank and file in each party march to the same masters.
Thinknaboutit Nice post.
A clown, alien, or Satan? I think I'd go with the clown... maybe Satan though, he's pretty metal.
well that would just prove his lack of leadership and experience as even a novice could have flipped Olympia Snow when needed.
The filibusters were done in America's best interest which was proven during the 2010 elections. Which part of that do you not understand?
@jri37
nope. sorry dude. both sides dont do it. there is no two sides about asking BP to clean up their spill. there is a right side and a wrong side. and the right side is that side that has been saying that this would happen for decades, and the wrong side is the side that kept on insisting that it could never happen.
and this is analog across other issues. democrats want serious government, republicans think that government is the problem. and they are wrong. government, like everything else in this world, can do good things and can do bad things. it can be done correctly and can be done incorrectly. if you dont believe that, you should not be anywhere near it.
And, yet, they still managed to get the Obamacare package passed notwithstanding all the Republican ire against it! What happened to all the alleged filibusters, then? You cannot have it both ways.
Mr. Zaruski,
I respectfully suggest you review the history of the Polish people under the iron curtain, and see what an over centralized, powerful government always leads to. pay particular attention to the seizing of assets, false accusations upon citizens of being terrorists/subversives, the elimination of religion, indoctrination of youth, mass executions, death camps, etc.
thanks.
@dcpyle
lol. healthcare reforms was filibustered for a YEAR. it included many ideas that republicans themselves invented. it had over 110 republican amendments, about 40 amendments introduced by democrats.
it met republicans more than halfway time and time again and republicans, like they repeatedly do, moved the goalposts every single time.
here is the thing that i dont get: obama and democrats CAMPAIGNED on healthcare reform. it is not like they campaigned on rainbows and unicorns for everybody, then just pulled a bait and switch. they campaigned on healthcare reform and they were still elected. why is it that healthcare reform couldnt just go through with an up or down vote? what do republicans have against democracy?
Wait until you hear the big whiney squeal from the left!
jri37...
I don't think anyone is claiming that one party is responsible for our complex tax code. But Democrats are the ones trying to get rid of the loopholes and return to more progressive tax rates.
Um, the Dems had a lock on Congress until 2010 elections. That's how they shoved Obamacare down our throats.
Obama is an empty suit; a charlatan.
Still nothing. Bigot Bigot Bigot. Name one or you are just a bigot. Name one or you are a racist bigot. Democrats know he's not on our side because of his actions not words. So name one just be honest that you can't handle a black man in the white house. Name one or I am right bigot. Bigot. Bigot.
@jri37
i give up. what i have to say to you is this:
being independent for the sake of being independent is a ridiculous idea. right is not the mean between two opposing ideas. you cant just sit there and say that both sides do it because there is nuance.
if you have the choice between drinking battery acid and drinking soda, you will choose drinking soda even though soda is not healthy for you. what you are suggesting is saying that well, neither are healthy so i am just going to die of thirst.
conversely, if you think that you always have meet in the middle, that we should drink detergent.
lets first establish that drinking baterry acid or detergent is unacceptable. eliminate the bad ideas on their face. we can then try and sort out and improve the ideas that we know are viable. lets be reasonable and drink coke for a while. maybe we can switch to diet coke at some point. and then hopefully water.
but dying of thirst or drinking detergent are ideas to be ruled out on their face.
President!
Wrong! Clinton signed that one into law.
@Bill Thomas-2852155
lol. stopped reading your post at that sentence because i knew the rest was garbage.

@jri37
i used to think of myself the same way, fiscally conservative and socially liberal.
but i dont know how you can shout stuff about tax cuts and deregulation in 2011.
JRI37, he speaks the truth. Obama has done ZERO for wall street regulation. Obama is a 3rd bush term. Everyone should read JRI37. Thank you sir for bringing reality to this forum.
Yes and I'm proud to say it. I'm a liberal, and I'm an Obama supporter. The GOP/TP is the wrong choice for America.
jri37,
Sounds like you and I have similar outlooks (independent thinkers that are fiscally conservative and socially liberal). I think one of the keys to getting things going again is to get more over the voters to think for themselves and stop following party dogma.
Actually, he's correct... it STARTED under Bush.
It was later signed into law by Clinton.
This is fairly common among Presidents leaving office. They either sign something into law just before leaving, or leave something for the next guy to deal with (especially the controversial stuff).
GB Sr had 44 total vetoes
Clinton - 37
GWB - 12
-- Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."
Senator Addison M. McConnell, Jr.
Shawn - Earth to Shawn - Because Hillary is a woman. Women have always had to do twice as much as a man to get recognition and equal pay.
Ironic isn't it?
ohh I get " the point " very well thank you.
Sounds pretty "proactive" to me! pffff..
Ummm... No. Your time line is off-kilter a bit.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/dont-ask-dont-tell-timeline/
It was signed into law in 1993. Following, that individuals who were discharged due to their orientation had an example of one who was restored to the service in 1994 as a response to non-compliance with the existing defense directive and law signed in 1993.
dcpyle
The Democrats controlled the entire legislative branch of government due to having majorities in, both, the House and the Senate from 1987 till 1994. The Dems had total control of what was sent to the President to sign into law during that period. I thought I would just clarify that, lol.
That is true. They had control over both the White House and Congress. Thanks for pointing that out for the masses.
Obama may have angered his base, but not enough for them to abandon him for a tea partier.
The hens will come home to roost during the election cycle for the Republicans and the Tea Party who are not well liked.
Look for another big swing in 2012 and it won't be for the Republicans.
They know Obama is their best chance to destroy the capitalist economic engine that created the greatest country in history and create out of the ruins a socialist/Marxist workers paradise.
dont worry, with 45% of us on the dole more or less, he can always count on being re-elected.
why won't the republicans listen to the PEOPLE instead of just doing what they want??
banker - They are doing what the people want, that's why Dems were thrown out in 2010.
Are you saying the people wanted to continue unsustainable wasteful borrowing and spending? Or that the people wanted a fake "deficit reduction plan" based on completely fabricated "war savings"?
SO do you happen to have any hard factual data to back up that claim Eric? or are you just making things up again.
They are the children screaming for icecream and candy at the dinner table but it's time to eat their peas.
pjam, stop bringing up last november, if ignored enough, will simply go away.
denial is a wonderful thing.
Teapugs ran on jobs, jobs, jobs not gutting social security, ending medicare/medicaid and denying women the rights their own bodies. The jobs lie isn't going to work in 2012.
chris, how long have liberals held a majority in congress now?
banker boy 2.4 - Why wont the dems listen to the American people, like in the 2010 election?
THG...
You obviously haven't seen the progressive plan, or are just giving your kneejerk reaction to anything not proposed by your beloved corporate masters.
Perhaps you should stick to something you know about... maybe hockey is your stronger suit.
What specifically was "un- American" then since you are so knowleagable on the subject?
They are. They were elected in part to cut government spending. That is what most of the public wanted and why it is that they won a lot of seats.
Thinkaboutit & Hockey,
I also read the progressives plan (I think it was called the "People's Budget").
Judson,
Ending DADT is a liberal position...
Why do you have to bring race into the discussion? Just because someone doesn't like Obama doesn't mean they are racist.
MIke-680333
You could always quit your job and do the same. Or, you have no clue what welfare people do all day. I suspect the latter.
Soros puts money in his bank account and his commie agenda in his empty head.
uhh...we dont call tea baggers terrorists because they want to reduce the deficit.
we call tea baggers terrorists because the tea baggers get into shoot outs with the police, vandalize or bomb mosques, kill abortion doctors in front of the churches, attack acorn and planned parenthood offices.
perhaps not all tea baggers do it. but you certainly dont see up in arms about these things. on the contrary, tea baggers rationalize and justify these things.
tea party/repubs don't want to live within ours means they are about scrapping everything !!
Zaruski, you mean like how the Democrats excoriated the likes of Jared Loughner for the Gabriella Giffords attack? That sort of up in arms excoriation of one (or a handful) of extremists in their own party?
They are terrorists and anarchists!!!!!Why get so bent out of shape? I know that baggers have an aversion to the truth, but not everyone else does.
@Suzy-2005071
loughner was a liberal? that is news to me. i think thats why obama went and gave a speech condemning him.
funny. i recall a cross hairs on someone's website that was hastily (and coincidentally?) taken down with no justification whatsoever, the moment the incident hit the news. and i also remember how tea baggers on fox news refused to say anything about it.
THG...
(Not)Thinknaboutit,
Thanks for referring to me as perfection (gomer is Hebrew for perfection) but it is not warranted.
SHAZAM!
The only distortion is your own. Own it. :)
From the "Democratic Underground" website archive:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=716016
Public examples of Kerry's creative hinting about the possibility of a Bush draft:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2004/sep/23/20040923-120959-7099r/
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35517-2004Oct15.html
You going to own your distortion of history, yet? :)
Pyle... are you seriously posting comments from another blog as your source? You really are living up to your moniker.
On the other hand there is the Republican Chuck Hagel who was publicly fighting for bringing back the draft. Perhaps that is why there was fear of Bush, since he is a Republican and there were Republicans arguing for the draft? How dare Kerry use Republicans own words against them during a political comapaign... those Democrats are so unfair. Golly Pyle, this is even simple enough for you to understand... SHAZAM!
All President Obama did was confirm to the world his lack of decision making and leadership ability. What's new?
nov 2012 will be a rerun of 2010. More conservatives being elected and more dems going home unemployed
Actually, no, I first posted a link to a discussion board, which was followed by two newspaper articles recording Kerry's claims and hinting around about a Bush draft. You missed those so I can only assume reading comprehension problems on your part. Try a Sylvan Learning Center near you. :)
Kerry-Edwards mandatory national service plan before it got yanked off the site (thank goodness for the Wayback Machine, however long it may last):
http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/johnkerry_service_fact_sheet.pdf">http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/johnkerry_service_fact_sheet.pdf
S. 89 starts:
It continues by mentioning that said service, which would be for a minimum of two years, could be either in the military or
God, what a bunch of wasted words from dcpyle.
Ok I'll bite. Mudslinging from the Bush/Kerry election contest 7 years ago has exactly what to do with anything or anyone in this current environment?
Oh yeah, nothing it's irrelevant.
It has everything to do with the current political environment. The Democrats continue to spout off propaganda in order to scare the public into helping them win elections. It also goes both to motive and to establishing a consistent pattern.
dcpyle
What propaganda? The death panels, killing grandma, nazi, muslim, communist, socialist, and job killers was all conservative ones.
You haven't been following the thread. Please return to the beginning, uncollapse a few posts, and read all the way up to the post to which you directed your comments.
See above.
Whoever wins the nomination will probably get the standard Republican vote, but no funds.
and for some reason, no one cares that we are continuing to spend billions if not trillions on costly wars.
lol, then again I could be wrong...
I am still waiting for one liberal policy that he has enacted or you both are racists.
rotflol..Judson..me a racist? not in a trilllion years.
The Hockey Guy---thank you...:)
Judson..."Never argue with a fool, people may not know the difference"
Anyone but a republi-CON...for office.
Stay tuned.
I guess if a 40% approval rating is stronger than ever then you are correct.
Accolins - You either need to lay off the meds or get started on some, pronto.
Obama’s approval rating is below that of former President Bill Clinton’s lowest approval rating during the government shutdowns of 1995."
http://news.yahoo.com/obama-approval-numbers-hit-time-low-185402373.html
pjama, the sad thing is, while only 40% Approve of his performance, there's a good chance he'll get a higher percentage of votes because people still think he's a darn nice fella.
I just hope it isn't too late before it happens.
the REAL reason he will be reelected is because there is NO good alternative.
I myself am very disappointed that he hasn't taken on the republicans like I thought he would, but like I said there IS no one else.....
SOOOOOOO, we lived through eight years of BUSH, YOU will have to live through eight years of Obama.......
How do you spell "setback" for America? I spell it ...."O...B...A....M...A" B O for short!
here is the way I spell it......
R...E...P...U...K...E....
Awfully quiet. If you don't give me one policy, I will assume that you have admitted that you are a bigot.
Exactly right Rick,
Boehner = big cry baby !!!
Mc Connell = make sure the president and THE COUNTRY fail !!!!
Lets get THEM out of our way so we can get some GOOD stuff done....
JUDSON, they cannot argue with the truth..........
BOB,
appears to me that your the one that doesn't have a grasp of things...what a bunch of dribble your spewing.....
Why should Social Security be cut when it isn't adding to the debt? Why didn't president Bush find a way to PAY for Medicare part d ??
Why are you guys so intent on keeping the status quo in healthcare (another pending crisis you know)
Democrats have plans to help solve these things....republicans = no plans, keep status quo or do away with the programs, OBSTRUCT any plan.....
Is that really what THEY think, or corporate America ?????
Now that the Republicans have finished with their self-created debt crisis, they can focus on creating jobs. Right?
...Right?
Wrong, Obama said just the other day that he, once again, will be focused on jobs. He's been focusing for two years now and I'm surprised he's not cross-eyed.
Shawn the only shovel ready job this moron has created is when a shovel and hip boots are necessary to clean up the hall after one of his total bull $hit speeches
Habinger....Guess they didn't have too many economics or history courses in that home schooled program you were educated with, huh?
Shawn: He's focused on jobs. His, Jay Carney, Tim Geithner, Hillary etc.
Obama focus on jobs??? Sure.............he's gonna FOCUS alright!
thought Boner and his cronies were going to focus on jobs ?? or abortions, yeah that's right abortions....
they aren't going to do anything for America, they are dragging us down to DESTROY America, in an effort to get elected.........
WOW is this a great country or what ?????
The only people afraid of the teabaggers are teapug members of Congress.
hey, anyone notice halperin was back on morning joe this am? he went the whole time without calling bam bam a d_ck!
Obama focus on jobs??? Sure.............he's gonna FOCUS alright!
clifan2-1...buuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwaaaahhhhhhhhhhh...I love a good pun...
now that was funny....
Crazy!!!!!
At least according to the whopping 600 people surveyed.
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE76P5Q220110726
most of the independents you talk about are republicans that are ashamed to admit they are republicans.............
not to worry bam bam, between the mindless minions and those on the dole, your a shoe in.
mitch j should thankful. There, but for the grace of God...
Again.
bam - "As a tax payer..I pay for results"
You can clearly understand why the Dems were dealt the biggest party flip since WWII in 2010 then.
Wambam, maybe because that's their' f'ing JOB?
Seeing that is was the teapugs who created this fake crisis they were pretty worthless in getting it resolved.Boehner will be gone by year's end.
He "lost" the debate like he "lost" the others. He didn't want to win. He's a conservative.
Obama is a weak leader. Absolutely impotent. He may not even get the nomination to run in 2012. If he does. I will not support his re-election.
Mac1546 finally someone speaks the truth. Obama is NOT a democrat. He continued or expanded EVERY bush policy.
what does he care: completing tarp, deviding by race, car company bail outs, cap and trade, qe1, stimulus, obamacare, qe2, 9+% out of work, unions paid off, 18% of us under employed, 15 trillion in debt, deviding by class.
he has accpomplished all he set out to do.
Spending on physician and clinical services is forecast to rise by 8.9% by 2014, representing 19% of overall health care spending."
http://money.cnn.com/2011/07/28/news/economy/healthcare_spending_forecast/index.htm?source=cnn_bin&hpt=hp_bn3
MSNBC was too embarrassed/ashamed to cover the report after all of their brainless propagandizing for Obamacare.
P.S. Keep in mind these are even the government released numbers, the reality will be much worse.
You can't handle a President that has done everything you ever wanted, but he's black and that's something you can't accept.
a political setback for Obama is a victory for America.
Judson
Im not sure about anyone being a bigot, but youre definitely right about obama not being a dem or a centrist! Hes almost a right leaning as cheney!
I believe he will suffer a rare embarrassment for a sitting President: A nomination challenge at the convention as delegates mount a dump Obama campaign.
well if the teleprompter is functioning he might have a shot at what you describe. without the teleprompter ers, ums and ehs sure do spotlight that "superior intellect".
don - Good one. We all needed a laugh.

http://news.yahoo.com/obama-approval-numbers-hit-time-low-185402373.html
He has lost ground because he is Bush part 3. No one liked that. If you are going to be Republican be white. Simple as that.
@Judson- You are sounding more and more racist! Stop with the race baiting.
I thought you ignored my posts? Just know you've won. Obama IS republican. DUN DUN DUN.
Barack Obama's the only man in history that could make Jimmy Carter look good. (by comparison)
Beats a drunk babbling to God and trying to prove something to Daddy.
Think so whambam? Guess you like paying double the money for a gallon of gas then. Like having your house drop in value without a corresponding drop in real estate taxes. Like having the stock market on a rollercoaster? Give me a babbling drunk rather than the babbling fool we have in there now... A drunk can get sober..... a fool is stupid forever!
....but then again.....with a name like 'whambam' you know that stupid lasts forever.
Your facts are foggy.
bam - "When W left office the average for gas nationwide was just under $3.75 a gallon."
And you think it's going to be less when B.O. leaves in 2012?
You are a bright one (sarcasm).
They are likely to be $5 per gallon at next year's election when he gets thrown out of office.
soooooooooooooo, that leaves us with Michele Bachmann ?????
talk about stupid lasting forever !!!!
There is NOW WAY, based on what we know today, that the Democrat power brokers are dumping a sitting president for some unknown.
hey dems....why not run his dog "Bo" he can't be much worse!
Mac
Exactly!
The reich wing outdid itself by having another 'republican' take the white house after cheney / bush STOLE the election in 2000 and went on to DESTROY the country!
Obama is a lie of a progessive. He's nothing more than ANOTHER reich wing scam played on the american voter! Funny how as long as the republicans are in charge the bigger the hole America sits in gets!
bob
Cheney / bush could steal another election and start a couple baseless wars that cost another 4 trillion! That would probably be a little worse....not by much though.
whambam1007 - Dream on.
Ummm...
(Thank God.)
whistling past the graveyard!
I know I did.
I never imagined he would be so inept, naive and petulant.
Obama is already too progressive/Socialist.
You're dreaming if you think there is a snowball's chance for anyone more leftist than this dumbass.
We don't want a 'progressive' because they're all kooks.
Sidney you are 90% right. Obama, though, never was a democrat. he was always a conservative. he just doesn't have the Bachman crazy eyes or that polygamist cult thing that Romney has.
Steven
Youre drunk on stupid juice! Obama is more right than ANY pres before cheney/bush and thats a FACT!
Your fox sponsored talking points dont hold a shred of truth so sell that stupidity somewhere else DA!
Sidney you are genius. Thank you finally the truth.
when can Americans start calling liberals terrorists, racists, extremists, etc?
most have already
Definitely getting to that point.
The more the reich wing controls the media, changes history and slashes education it will just be a matter of time before we're back in the dark ages! Anything innovative, progressive or science based will be outlawed!
sidney - "Anything innovative, progressive or science based will be outlawed!"
You mean like breathing without purchasing insurance? oh wait, that already is outlawed.
When they start holding the country hostage like the teapugs of today do.
Liberals = emotionally-challenged thinkers.
Grow up!
If Steve would lose his playbook. He would be silent.
Steven b, this is what is true;
# 1 Denmark: $6,713.00 per student

You must have been thinking about what we spend on healthcare is the USA;
So, more of the same.
"Laser-like focus" on jobs? 'Shovel ready' jobs?
What this dolt fails to realize is that Governments do not generate jobs, they do not generate revenue.
As long as Obama stays in office, business will continue to be very reluctant to do any expansion.
Quite the contrary: Businesses are in 'bunker mode', waiting for this neo-Socialist, big spending, government-expanding burdensome man to leave!
Obviously you skipped that chapter.
all anyone debating against the POTUS before the general election need do is this: when asked a question, simply extend arms, and swing over/across in one, long sweeping motion until finger tips pointing low towards bam bam. while doing this, use expression on face that says: are you kidding!!!??!!?? you've got to be kidding!!!!!!!
