As a real Liberal and Progressive I am of two minds on this subject. Firstly, I don't like seeing MSNBC using the Fox News Party propaganda handbook. Let's don't forget that George Bush inconveniently had to go to New Orleans while he was in one of his many vacations while he was president. And he did not get there immediately....

We should get the facts that really matter. Who spends the most tax payer dollars on their vacations? With their salary they should pay for their own vacations, except maybe 2 weeks after the first year on the job and 4 weeks after the second. It should top out at 6 weeks paid vacation plus medical, just like the rest of us. And since it is the President of the United States of America it has to be the best medical money can buy.

Personally no presidents deserve a vacation paid for by the taxpayer until majority of it's legal residents and citizens have a job. We voted them into office to do a job and that is to run this country not to fly around the world with their families visiting places and renamed it "diplomatic visits to strengthen relations between countries". I also don't give a rat toosh of the claim that it doesn't matter where he is, the same job gets done that's a bunch of crap. It does matter, it matters cus he's not spending tax dollars when he's in the Oval office. When the country is in financial crisis, the president should be forking out his own money if he wants to take his family on vacation. Air force 1 fuel should be paid for by him, hotels and food should be paid for by him.

The tax payers provide him with Angel 1, which becomes Air Force One when he's on board. If he is using his white house salary for the trip that is tax payer money too. Every President deserves a Vacation. Someone above mentioned Bush was at his ranch for 500 days. Bush was President for eight years, there are 52 weeks in a year, 2 days off a week= 104 days a year, 104 x 8= 832 days. That of course is based on a normal five day work week and there is nothing normal about the Presidents schedule so let's get off Bush's and Obama's back!

A couple of differences. Have you ever been to Crawford? Not exactly a vacation spot. And also it was paid for. Martha's vineyard is costing over $50K in hotel rooms. And why did they have to take two planes? Most of the Presidents in the past 100 years, except for the excurstions on the Naval ships , owned where they went. And they took fewer people with them.

Marchant- This is little more than the right getting upset. Whether you like it or he has a right to take a vacation, and whether you like it or not there isn't a great deal he can do sitting in Washington waiting on Congress to get back. He has a family and has a right to vacation wherever he chooses to vacation to. He is the President not the Emperor of the United States he can't make decisions on the economy in a vacuum.

And again the Republican controlled house takes a week of vacation for every two weeks they work and i use that word loosely because there has been very little of anything that has come out of the House that has had to do with jobs or the economy since they took over.

I saw a movie called " media malpractice" which shows how the media praised Obama and sabotaged Hillary Clinton and Sara Palin in the process. The biggest deceptors were MSNBC and CNN. It shows how the media specifically gave Obama the freedom to not answer any "tough" questions and how they relentlessly pursued the other candidates. I don't know about you, but I don't want another fixed race for 2012.

If I manufacture a product and it cost me $ 30.00 to get it to market. And If the demand for my product is high.

Now along comes the government and raises my taxes on my manufactured goods another 10% on top of what I already pay them. My next logical step, would be as a business owner, is to pass that tax along to the consumer. My profits stay the same, and the consumers are now paying this tax.

Believe it or not this is how businesses operate. So advocating a tax on the rich is only going to add to your tax burden.

I hated what Bush did during his term, but that does not make what is happening to this Country or the apparent lack of concern about it justifiable. Even if the House and Senate are recessed we can still accomplish a lot by talking to Governors, Corporations, etc. There is work that can be done. I understand the guy needs a break, and I probably would too, but when people are as desperate as they are now he won't look like a hero until we see him accomplish something and until then people will continue to attack him. Criticising him may not be justified, but the perception he is creating at this time is not a good one.

Regarding jobs or anything else, the bills have to come out of congress before anything can happen. What have we seen from the Republican led House of Representatives? I know they have set a record of the most ever.

Besides, according to some statements made by members of the Republican party, the 17+ million people in this country that are out of work, some of them who are veterans of the wars we are currently engaged in, are ALL lazy and want to live off of the government. My sister always complains that I go on too many vacations. I go on 3 vacations a year vs her 2 per year. My vacations cost about 500 per trip since i could only afford to go to vegas or drive 2 hrs to the beach. Each of her vacations cost about 3k-4k because she tend to do europe and asia. Prez Bush took his vactions at camp david, where he can work as well as at the white house ,and on his own property in TX, effectively no lodgeing costs at either place. These where cheap vacations compared to what obuma has been on. WIth camp david no extra money for security had to be spent.

When it comes to vacations seems our politicans are experts. They can leave and vacation for days and weeks on end and....they get paid for not working. They get a great salary, benefits, healthcare, pensions, all the bennies that us peons can only dream about while either doing nothing or...and this is even sadder, they get paid to really screw us over and then they go on vacation. Funnee - You got about a quarter of a truth in your post, the Sudan government was in discusses with Clinton and the CIA in 1996 and the Sudanese Minister of State for Defense offered to arrest and extradite Bin Ladin to the US to be questioned about possible link to the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. This offer was blown off and the Sudanese after trying to turn him over to Saudi Arabia released him. Clinton passed no information of this on the Bush as he didn't feel Bin Ladin important until after 9/11 and Bin Ladin's involvement was discovered. At that point Clinton and the geniuses at the CIA directly involved conveniently did not reminder this offer being made, but because of evidence found in the flowing the 9/11 investigation they could not claim they did not have discussions about the Bin Ladin with the Sudanese at the time they had him but deny the offer to question him. That just doesn't add up.

midwest, after reading articles about Obama's "failed leadership" it seems many people have forgotten the many staff meetings this President held before making decisions on Afghanistan and the capture of bin Laden. We elected a man with a different leadership style who takes time to be informed on all sides of an issue before making decisions. Even now Obama seems to be staying true to form as levels of frustration continue to mount. However, the president is well aware that the jobs lost to other countries came from mature companies that built factories for thousands of jobs that won't be coming back. And now we are short of jobs because start-up companies and small businesses on Main Street do not employ the same high numbers of people. Do the math - and everyone can see growing a new economy is like growing a forest after a devastating wild fire. It takes time. It would be a lot worse if the big 3 auto companies had been allowed to fail.

What to do - well, business leaders are sitting on cash but they don't invest unless there's a market. Which means we're going nowhere. A thriving economy puts people to work; people at work make the economy thrive. So common sense says that just like after flood, hurricane, tornado, etc. the emergency services of the govt. are called into service. Now, a jobs program offered by the govt. is needed. Common sense says it makes more sense to pay someone to work than to pay that same person unemployment benefits.

Obama has been putting together a jobs plan. In Sept. we'll see if Congress will show if it is in touch with the people and willing to take responsibility for creating jobs in the public sector. What's wrong with this country is that we have a President who has been the workhorse, trying to pull this nation forward, but stuck with a Congressional wagon that has no wheels.

Maybe business leaders are beginning to recognize the problem. Warren Buffett certainly has shown a willingness to work in the best interests of the country to solve revenue problems. So who else is willing to show their patriotic side - not just a bottom line greedy side? Right now Obama's background of working for people who needed help is a good trait to look at when assessing who is best for the job. He's the guy who set aside a comfortable legal career to help others. Like him or not, he is still the one whose proposals show concern for all people, not just corporate interests. Let's see what happens if his proposals are given a chance.

Marty, Reagan did lower taxes, and he raised taxes, particularly the payroll taxes for social security which hit every tax bracket.
