My solution for halting illegals crossing the border:

Take all the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and bring them to bases along our northern and especially our southern borders. Send them out to patrol the borders using the tactics they've learned in their foreign deployments. The people crossing illegally are CRIMINALS when they take their first step into our country, and very likely to continue committing crimes. Put signs up (bilingual of course) that border crossers will be shot on sight and thrown back over the border. Problem solved.

As to the "anchor babies" situation. The babies can stay, the illegals still need to go. And if the illegals want to come to visit, they have to pay child support for their children first.

How about we send the Deportation costs to the Country of Origin. We can do this quite simply. Just deduct the cost of deportation from the Foreign Aid that we give to the Country of Origin. You are exactly right and on top of that he is taking the credit for something the Bush Administration put in place for him and that is namely the boots on the ground of the BP Agents.

Change the law so that illegals do not get any credits back on money they might have paid in to the income tax system.

Stop or change the ITIN system the IRS currently has in place and make it available only to foreign businesses that have to have a tax id to pay their income taxes.

Make it impossible forillegals to get any entitlements. This can be done by making it mandatory for anyone signing up for food stamps to be a legal resident of the U.S. The same with WIC, Welfare, SS, ETC. As it is illegals can and are getting benefits.

Illegals often are able to get access to numerous public social programs because they can use the SSID's of their citizen children to apply for them

Here's how the gravy train rolls:

1. Illegal alien mother gives birth in US. Child is given citizenship and SSID by default.
2. County pays for hospital bill
3. Parents use child's SSID to apply for: welfare, low income housing, WIC, foodstamps, aid to families of dependent children, etc etc etc.
4. Parents enroll child in daycare using 3rd party subsidization (often state+federal)
5. Parents work under the table in cash only. Or if one or more possess a higher skill level, one parent might use their child's SSID on their job application. If they don't have a child, it's not hard to buy a stolen SSID...even if it is eventually cancelled, the SSID is only used once on the job application for verification, that's it.
6. Parents enroll their child in public school.
7. When the child reaches age 18, they can sponsor their parents for citizenship.

Ta da!

In short, because the child has a legitimate SSID, they are eligible for ALL public assistance.

I'm sure that illegal aliens occasionally manage to get onto the dolls without proving citizenship, but I believe that rout is far more precarious and circuitous and requires a lot more fraud (which we know there's a lot of in the public social services sector).

Let's take the current estimated annual cost of illegal immigration in CA. $

$22billion/year, then divide by the estimated 2.6million illegal aliens in CA and we end up with $8.5K/year. Let's play fair, if the illegal resident has not been using a falsified SSID, but instead a TPIN, subtract the annual reported income from the 8.5K/year. Multiply that final number by the number of years the subject has been in the US. To be eligible for citizenship without self-deporting, they must pay back this amount (legally), in lump sum or through installments over no greater than 10years. Additionally, over this timeframe, they cannot apply for any public assistance, cannot sponsor anyone for citizenship and must not be convicted of any felony or misdemeanor charges at any point of said timeframe.

So for example, illegal alien Subject "X" applies for citizenship. X has lived in the US for 10 years, and worked for 9 of those years, reporting with a TPIN, totalling 1K/year in tax payments. Thus X must pay ($8.5K - $1K)*10years = $75K total. Adjusting for time value (for simplicity), increase by 10%. Hence 75K*1.10 = 82.5K

If every inidividual illegal alien desiring US citizenship were to pay such an adjusted sum. That would make things a lot better for all of us.

Not just taxed improperly. Another major reason why some businesses love to hire illegals is because the employers don't have to worry about having a safe working environment, or follow state mandated labor laws, etc.

Basically, if something goes wrong on the job site, the employer isn't on the hook for the injury or litigation...they'll just let the ER's figure out the financial details. Why do you think that so many ER's and county hospitals in areas teeming with illegal aliens are having severe financial trouble?

Also, regarding your comment about entrepreneurial immigrants. I contend that you are comparing apples::oranges.

I contend that legal immigrants are more ambitious and have a far higher education than those that immigrate illegally. They came here with a vision and drive, and with at least a modicum of skill-sets to start. Many illegals often take bottom rung hard-labor jobs often because they were from the rural parts of their homeland (read about how NAFTA decimated a large chunk of Mexico's family farmers because US produce prices were far cheaper than anything the unmechanized Mexican farmers could compete with) and don't have any significant formal education beyond perhaps basic literacy.

Upward mobility for illegals is pretty much non-existent. But I'm a proponent of public education even for illegals because we obviously cannot keep them out, but if we can educate them, they have the potential to better themselves and perhaps eventually give back to our society after they have taken so much.

I would even be a proponent of a monetary amnesty program for those that have not committed any other crimes aside from their illegal immigration...provided that they each pay 8.5K for every year they've been here illegally, plus not be able to apply/consume any public assistance during the period they pay off the debt, and for 10 years after full repayment

ConAgra and Tyson won't raise their prices beyond what the market will bear, you forget that agriculure is heavily subsidized by the government. Much like oil, if the prices of produce starts to skyrocket, politicians will be pressured to cut the subsidies. Plus, if profits rise too sharply, that will hurt Tyson and ConAgra (among others) because it will increase the entrance of new competition. The barrier to entry for agriculture is the need to be able to produce at high volumes because of low prices, that requires millions upfront as a capital investment in mechanization. Rising produce prices means family farmers gain traction because the need for initial mechanization drops as it becomes more feasible to produce less at a profit.

In any case, the logic behind "we need a slave labor black market" is flawed if you ever cared to analyze it.

Let me reassure you for a moment.

Most of the US's debt is held indrectly by the US. It's in the Fed, it's in the SSA and Medicare Trusts, it's in the portfolios of massive US mutual funds, it's part of a number of retirement funds...etc etc etc.

China holds about $1.7Trillion in US T-Bills. It helps keep the US's current spending policies intact even as the Fed drops its rate through the floor.

Have you ever heard the old saying?

(adjust those numbers up by an order of magnitude for today's dollars of course)

Basically, China's economy is largely an export-driven one, and they maintain it by pegging their currency below the US$. They do that because the US is their largest customer (larger in fact than the rest of their customers combined). If they stop buying US debt, the US will lose its ability to purchase goods from China because the US$ would drop and the Chinese RMB would rise. Additionally, if the US$ drops, the US$-denominated goods will become cheaper on international markets while RMB-denominated goods become more expensive. Making the US a formidable competitor with a friendlier business climate and respect for intellectual property and free trade.

Ultimately. China's exposure is far greater than the US's. China's economy is essentially owned by US fiscal policy. If the US stops borrowing so feverishly, or if we raise the Fed Rate, China will lose it's primary means of pegging its currency, which will force them either to become an import-driven economy, or they will have to print money, which will throw them into hyper-inflation, devalue the RMB, and kill their ability to expand their infrastructure and military ambitions.

You don't have to worry about China and the US going into a direct war with each other...it would decimate their economy.

Excuse ME I am an American born here and I will stand up for all natural born citizens but when it comes to my hard earned money I don't need some foreigner taking my money. IF you want to come to America you pay just like we do and earn the rights to Social security benefits. Do the studying on all the facts about illegals on the benefits they get!

Ebony is right, Lauriesarno you are sooo wrong, they do get help, they get food stamps, housing , health care, the whole enchilada! If I need help I have to wait in line behind them!!! And that is outrageous since I am a US citizen and I have been working and putting into the system for the past 30 some odd years!! Yet if I need help they are in the same line as me!! I witnessed one at a Walmart ahead of me who got his merchandise he had with a shiny new credit card and he sure was not a citizen the clerk had to get some one over to speak his lingo and he did not have to sign the card after the purchase. I am one of the lucky people who still has my job, which I always say a prayer for the citizens that are out of a job be able to find work. I thought to myself here I am working my fingers to the bone so you can have that credit card to spend in Walmart!
