The "tea puppet" thought he could pass this with Democrat votes?!?! Because... they attached a bill that made them choose between long standing clean-car loan funding (jobs) or disaster relief (the down-trodden)? The Republican Tea Party is proving to be as stupid as it is stubborn. Just because the budget was funded "as agreed" they thought the Dems wouldn't notice the trickery? Jerks.
Personally, I am so sick of the ridiculous and innocuous right that I will NEVER vote Republican for anything... president, congress, state, county, local... I won't vote for a Republican PTA member... a Homeowner's Association Member... not even to take notes...
Guess you didn't read the part about the 1.5 billion attached by the democrats that's going to car companies attached to the bill? What do car companies have to do with disaster relief?
No, don't read the article, just start bashing, any opportunity shall be taken, whether valid or not.
Speaker Boehner still has no clue how to count votes! I realize counting with the sun in your face and a beer in your hand is tough but less time under the tanning bed and drinking after five should help with that.
Oh yeah. Harry Reid set this up for failure. It's not the Tea-lunatics' fault. Just like it's not their fault they played games with our debt ceiling and got us downgraded. Somehow Obama made them stomp their feet and say 'no' to everything, leading us into legislative and economic chaos.
That's the dumbest way to try to smoke screen their stupid actions. Let's blame the successful end product of our machinations on others. Now that's leadership.
I'm sorry, but when the Tea Party states denying funding to disasters (Cantor) as a goal, and it comes to pass - guess who's to blame?
Just like when they say their goal is to dismantle government over debt issues, they vocally drag their feet through the debt ceiling process and we get downgraded. Yet it's somehow the Democrats' fault they chose and followed through with that moronic dog and pony show (even though it was perfectly in line with their publicly stated goals). So who's to blame?
Guess you didn't read the part about the 1.5 billion attached by the democrats that's going to car companies attached to the bill? What do car companies have to do with disaster relief?
No, don't read the article, just start bashing, any opportunity shall be taken, whether valid or not.
See! That's what pis$es me off about you people. The money for the loans to car companies to help bring in clean energy were bills from long ago that were up for renewal. It was the GOP that decided to use the renewal to fund the FEMA... not the Dems... I guess I read more than the article... sorry.
Well, it is now obvious that people don't read the articles posted. It is not necessary. Nope, facts printed in the article are to be ignored, culpability MUST fall on the teaparty since we have been told they are the cause of all our problems. Ever hear of something called a rider? Are you aware that riders can be attached to any bill? Are you aware that these riders might not have anything to do with the bill? Do you complain when earmarks and pork happen? Do you understand that this is the reason they happen?
What the hell are "green car" funds doing in this bill?
I am ignoring the partisan roil that is going on in this discussion because it always goes on. Both sides do this crap. BOTH. they stick things in bills that have NOTHING to do with the Bill itself.
It is time for Bills to be passed on their merits alone. Not what they can do to abate the other side. NOTE: REGARDLESS of whether it is a Democrat or Republican Bill.
Personally I am elated that it failed because it shows the clear disfunction of BOTH sides.
9.2 billion in loans to save 10,000 jobs. Those must be some incredible jobs to need 9.2 billion to fund them.
Ten republicans voted with Reid to support the stand-alone bill for disaster relief. Sorry, but it was the democrats who voted against the stand alone bill because it didn't contain the 1. 5 billion investment in green cars. But, reading the article's first few paragraphs, it makes it seem like the teaparty was against funding disaster relief. Read into it a little further and the facts start to come out.
Then there is this little issue of debt limit, a fixed number. But somehow the democrats want more money to fund 'green cars' and veto a disaster relief stand alone bill and it becomes the fault of the teaparty. Go figure.
Democrats say cutting the loan program could cost up to 10,000 jobs because there wouldn't be enough money for all pending applications.
In another part of the article it states: Democrats say that 3.5 billion of loan subsidies has supported loans totaling 9.2 billion that created or saved 41,000 jobs...
The Tea Party wouldn't even exist if not for the whacko left spending other peoples money like theres no tommorro. You need to look in the mirror. Lots of blame to go around.
This bill failed because of the Democrats an their push for 1.5 billion in extra funding for green car technology that has no place whatsoever in a disaster relief funding bill. Why some people need to try and blame everything on the Republicans is beyond me. I put blame where it belongs, and in this case it is with the Dems for pushing to add something to the bill that has no relation to the actual purpose of the bill. It is these kind of unrelated add-ons that jack up the cost of everything and leads to our huge budget deficits. If they could just focus on the purpose of the bill, this thing would have sailed through without a problem.
The Tea Party wouldn't even exist if not for the whacko left spending other peoples money like theres no tommorro.
Oh, please. Republicans are responsibility for a majority of the debt, they are big spenders but they borrow the money, hence the debt. Teabags didn't give a crap about debt until Obama was elected. We all know why. @!$%# over the economy at all costs to make sure Obama isn't re-elected. They don't make a secret about the fact.
jsinsd ..thats what happened in the budget debate and the debt limit crisis ..the tea party wanted there cuts and would not focus on the purpose of the bills if the tea party would have xcared about America the budget and debt limit would have sailed right on thru
A government shut down at the hands of the Tea Party following the Tea Party downgrade.
I think an economic depression awaits.
So John Kerry must be your (misdirected) idol......
When will people understand that monies that we will have to borrow and finance are monies that we do not have?
I realize this can be a challenging concept for many, but you cannot, no matter what the god king tells you or feeds to you....continue to outspend what you make...as the god king told us, "This is math"
Tea Party Downgrade???? No...........massive $120,000,000,000,000.00 in total US unfunded liabilities.....
Eric Cantor and his henchmen are an insult to everything that is good about America. He demonstrates that he knows nothing about what Jefferson, Washington and the other Founding Fathers meant when establishing this country. What sacrifice has Cantor made? Absolutely nothing! But, he sure does want the middle class to sacrifice. Virginians should have enough common sense to throw this selfish arrogant bum out.
Reply: They either can't or won't understand the severity of the debt. Some of these posters seem to think that the country can keep on borrowing more and more money for funding 'green cars' and whatever else some lobbyist or special interest group is demanding.
They remind me of the little kid who wants that candy and Mom says she doesn't have the money and can't afford to buy the candy. Does the kid say, oh, yeah. We're broke? Nope, he whines, screams, throws himself on the floor and says he hates his mother.
Another week-long vacation? Didn't they just have a whole month off? And they talk about Obama's "vacations"? Cut their salaries for every day they aren't in Washington doing what they are paid BY US to be doing. Congress goes through this same BS every year. Hell, about half of last years appropriations bills were never passed. Just look at their record. They have been running on these 3 month continuing resolutions for most of Obama's administration, just as they did under most fiscal years for the past 20-30 years.
It's time to put an end to these fiascos. Join the Popular Amendment movement and help change our election/campaign finance system. Go to www.faircampaignreform.us to get involved.
Let me guess: The Democratic party is a success? I am smart enough not to be affiliated with any party, i usually vote for the good of the people. Blunt comments like "The Republican Party is a Failure . . ." is meaning less and empty dogmas, remind me of communism.
Are you a communist, or just want to leave the first comment, no matter how dumb it is?
Newsflash bob and mygirl. Republicans could have keep the 1.5 billion out by passing the bill. They did not need Democrat help. They simply have no compassion for and do not want to help their fellow Americans. They have not pledged their allegiance to the American public. It is sad.
The solution is simple: raise income taxes on the rich. They're the only ones with any money.
And of course they're going to yell and scream. That's what they do: fight for every penny they can, because they're greedy. selfish capitalistic pigs.
Government needs to be the adult in the room and stop the big, bad bullies from stealing all the Easter eggs and Halloween candy from the young children. "Wah!" they'll cry. "We were here first!" as they kick weak little brother in the mouth.
Can't live on a $1 million+ per year? Try minimum wage.
The radical right wing group known as the Tea Party is nothing but an obstructionist party who knows nothing of how government works and they don't care. Their only goal is to gain power and if it means destroying the middle class in the process they don't care. They are the most destructive force in the history of America.
Witchking: So, let us eat the rich, consume them all, take every dime from every corporation, that will solve all the problems? As to gaining power, what is the point of gaining power over what will soon be a third world country if the spending and borrowing don't stop?
Have you any concept of what is happening in Europe at the moment? Are you capable of seeing corollaries with what is happening here? Apparently not.
It was the democrats who voted no, read the article, all but SIX democrats voted against the bill because it didn't have the 1.5 billion green cars money. Then please read how there can't be more money added to the bill which the democrats want added. There is a fixed number set on the debt limit. Dear God, deliberately obtuse reigns supreme.
While the communist above whine, I think what stood out most for me was the corporate welfare that they are trying to hand the auto industry. That one provision is more than enough reason for everyone in Congress to vote against this bill. Nissan and Chrysler do not need low interest government funding. This is what these parasites in Congress always do, spam the bill with handouts and special benefits then cry when people vote against it. What else is in this bill?
Yeah them dang commies want to change the world. Teach evolution, make us learn foreign languages, and let them terrorists from the country of Africa come 'ere and bomb us!
LA, CA, TX, OK, AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, PA, NY, and all you other states that may face a disaster, I'm truly sorry for your loss. Please pass the hat. We'll see who puts in the change. Sorry.
Comrade: You will enjoy the democratic plan, it will be perfect, once we get those taxes in and keep on borrowing some more, pretty soon you will be enjoying the workers paradise just like in Mother Russia.
I am not sure how you count jobs saved. I can tell you a lie you are being told. Taxing job creators reduces jobs. When the rich want more money, they create jobs. That is how they create their wealth. The more money you take from them, the more jobs they will create to replace it. It really is simple math.
John, you need to ask the Republicans in Congress. They are the ones that campaigned on creating jobs during the last election and to date have done nothing to create jobs.
Duh, life was pretty good if you were willing to work during the majority of Bush's term, right up until the housing bubble in large part due to the democratic Congress, That's more than I can say for doughbama's reign., Thanks to him, your health insurance is going up, gas is high, if he tries to "share the wealth" by taxing the rich, you morons can't seem to see the forest for the trees, it is going to come out of your pockets in the form of price increases.
Why don't you slow down and listen and think before you post. The story is summarized like this:
There needs to be a budget bill. There needs to be FEMA funding. Cantor and company insist that we cut something to pay for disaster relief, since a "disaster relief tax or band" is out of the question. Soooo.... to pay for the FEMA funding Boehner decided to call for killing the previously approved and budgeted clean car manufacturing loans (or whatever you want to call them) and also decided to attach the budget bill to add pressure to it's passing. The strategy blew up in his face and now we have no FEMA funding, no budget, and automakers are wondering about their previously approved loans.
Got it?
And BTW, Democrats want a balanced budget just as much or more than Republicans... just not by sacrificing the middle class and the poor while coddling the rich. Bush and Cheney with the full support of the Republicans in Congress spent like there was no tomorrow and put us on track for decades of debt. Obama's contribution to our debt is minor by comparison to the "Bush Debt Train"... so calling out the Democrats as tax and spend just doesn't hold.
More stalling from the most apalling people on the planet.
Y'all,in case you haven't noticed,mygirl1 takes numbers to the extremes, more fantasy-like. All we want is fair % rate on taxes, she is saying take everything. Sheesh. Let me know if any of her rants ever suggest anything remotely close to reality.
You lost your house to a natural disaster. That is what insurance is for. Don't tell me that people can't afford 10 grand in renter insurance that runs 5 bucks a month. If they can't buy that insurance because something else is a priority in their life it shouldn't be the taxpayer that should pay it.
Fine I am being heartless and not thinking of the single mothers who are barely feeding their three children. That is where organizations like Goodwill, The Red Cross, Salvation Army and other charities come in. Again why do we as a country need FEMA.
Oh well who would coordinate the efforts to rebuild in and make sure laws are followed and mankind doesn't devolve into savages? That is what the National Guard was created for. Not to go overseas because our standing army is being taxed with three wars. Again why do we as a country need FEMA?
I would love an answer from someone that explains why we need another agency that does the job of three different groups and no where near as efficiently.
What? More previously approved car company loans? Why are we loaning the car companies more money? There are currently three versions of this story on the MSN site. In one of the articles it states that 'the looming shortage has been apparent for months, and the Obama White House was slow to request additional money."
also from the same article: "This bill was designed to pass with democratic votes, in part based on assurances from Reps. Dicks and Hoyer."
also from the article: The House disaster aid measure contains one billion in immediate aid for the 2011 budget year...and$2.7 billion for the 2012 budget year beginning Oct. 1. The Senate measure totals $6.9 billion..." So, under the debt ceiling, they cannot go over the allocated monies.
also from the article: "Ten republicans voted with Reid last week to pass the stand alone disaster aid measures." Now, how can there be a stand alone bill for disaster relief that includes the 1.5 billion for green cars? Like I said, the article seems to be contradictory.
BobB -We need FEMA because as in the case of Hurricane Irene, the vast majority of the damage was caused by flooding - which private insurance will not cover. Federal flood insurance is not available to anyone who wants it. Its not available to people who should never have to be concerned about flood damage - like the Killington base lodge that sits just about on the top of the mountain but was destroyed by piddling little mountain creeks until they turned into white water rivers. Near my home there is a seventy foot chasm where a road used to be and the raging waters that took that out along with the water and sewer for an entire town is back down to its normal trickle through a an 18 inch culvert. Private insurance doesn't want the risk at any price - so much for capitalism - so government assumed it but only where they thought it was needed and now the congress wants to nickle and dime about the only option left - and then take another week long vacation. Disgusting.
The article(s) are/is confusing. I had to go to another site for clarification. Theses MSN articles call the senate version a stand-alone bill, then, when it gets to the house it has attached monies for green cars. Then the house republicans balk because the amount in the bill is too much and is over budget. Thus, they don't vote for it. Now it goes before the senate with the riders attached and the republicans there who originally voted for it won't vote for it because it costs too much.
LMarc: Where did you find this summary? I had to go elsewheres to get the gist of the story, I am still confused although it seems the ideological difference are alive and well. If Boehner added the car bill to this bill as a means of getting the thing passed, then, yup, you're right, it blew up.
Are you a communist, or just want to leave the first comment, no matter how dumb it is?
You know, accusing someone of being a communist lost its sting after the Soviet Union and the rest of Eastern Europe fell. Actually, it lost its sting after McCarthy gave anti-communism a black eye. Maybe you should find a new insult for the 21st century.
After meeting with our adjuster to assess the flood damage to our home on Hatteras Island and thankfully catching the ferry after a day and a half wait, I'm glad the bill failed.
John Boehner should know better than to use people who suffered losses from disasters to further his initiatives. IMHO those who voted for responsible spending are Americans. The rest are opportunists.
In respect to the 15% of our population living below the poverty line, an $800 flood insurance premium is not in the budget when food is short. If the crew in DC went to bed without supper, maybe they would have better budget priorities.
I praise the news groups for covering these events, but I prefer they seek better balance between sensationalism and journalism.
BobB, you remind me of the troll from central PA with calloused comments for those who endured Irene that found himself in need the next morning when Lee filled his employer with six feet of water.
Personal responsibility is a thing of the past anymore it seems. You know when you go to the store long before a crisis and buy canned goods and batteries and water and purification kits in case something happens. Well at least I know that if something happens where I am living now in Michigan I have insurance for everything to cover my financial losses and I have supplies for two months of my family living in a tent if we have to. Again without needing the government.
Good for you, Bob. Now if they would just eliminate FEMA, you'll have a better chance of winning "LAST MAN STANDING" Award. I'm sure all those disaster victims are rooting for you. But you don't care about them, do you? Let them suffer as a lesson to others? I think we are a bigger nation than that.
Actually Van I still make time to work for a charity every year even though I work and I donate to several causes. When you replace the charity with profit and government, people expect it instead of looking at it as a helping hand up like it is supposed to be. So I am sorry that all of you that somehow think I am bashing on you for not being as prepared as I am but frankly I am not going to be looking for a hand up unless I really really need it and will be the one holding the hand out to help others during a disaster.
Bob - according to FEMA publication F-084 National Flood Insurance Program (which is the program your link goes to for application) is available only in participating communities. If your community is not on that list, you can not buy NFIP flood insurance. Whether the community where you buy a house is registered as a participant is a different issue but not everyone can buy into this program - which is administered by FEMA. So FEMA doesn't exist simply as a "hand out."
OK, maybe math WASNT my best subject, but as I look at the vote tallies, there cant be that many Tea Party members in Congress....oh wait, I found it...all but 6 democrats voted against it...because there wasnt enough money there to give away. 1.5B for 'green cars'? Please dont tell me this administration hasnt learned its lesson about investing in green businesses. It seems to me the Left is just as bad as the far Right.....well, all but 6 of them in this instance anyway.
I can almost see the FEMA thing. But I really do love the headline. MSDNC pushing the blame entirely onto the right....how about sharing it for a change...btw, this goes for BOTH sides of the aisle.
"Such temporary extensions of government funding are the norm on Capitol Hill, but the extension failed on a 195-230 vote, in which 48 Republicans voted against the bill."
I believe the Republicans have about 240 House members and the Democrats have about 195, which means that 192 Republicans voted FOR the bill, but only 160 Democrats voted FOR the bill.
It seems that the Democrats are equally at fault, so why is all of the blame reported against the Republicans when a higher percentage of Democrats than Republicans voted AGAINST the bill.
Glad the bill went down, we don't need to be wasting even more money on "green cars." How much have we already wasted on the Chevy Volt? A car that is over priced and not all that useful or especially "green."
True, the article is confusing. There is still more time to fix things, so in the long run, we need to keep on track and not let the Democrats continue to spend foolishly.
, all but SIX democrats voted against the bill because it didn't have the 1.5 billion green cars money.
@Mygirl You did NOT read the article. That funding is part of the cuts the republicans wanted to make to balance the additional funding for FEMA. Dems are saying no they don't want that cut...find something else. So the car companies still get their 1.5 billion...But FEMA gets nothing.
Bottom line...Disaster Relief should never be tied to a spending bill...period...end of story. The GOP and the Teabaggers have again stooped to a new and even deeper low with this crock of BS! You political and economic perverts continue to be an embarrassment to this country and what it stands for. Eric Cantor...your political career is over...you will have a hard time getting a job at Subway!
Here, the state-run insurance for houses wants increases of up to 2000%. That's not a typo. That is 20 times what the current rates are. Why? rickie wants deregulation. Yeah, insurance companies do have to profit. THAT is why FEMA exists. For those who can pay companies for insurance which is for-profit only. Yeah,it's affordable...for elitists. Good ol' rickie, screwing over everyone he can.
That's the problem with tpers. They DO put a price on life, meaning EVERYTHING we do should be profitable. How about emotions? They don't sound profitable. If tp gains control, emotions likely would also be outlawed IMO.
It's an undeniable fact that in the past 20 some years, whenever republicans were in power, the economy just went downhill, fast! it's also undeniable that it was always the democratic who come to the rescue the stop the economic downfall when they took office.
look what happened when the bush father and son took the white house. Economy just slummed when they were in control. Look what happened when Clinton took office. He ended with with a big surplus. Look what happened when Obama took office, he stopped the economic downturn in 2009 and 2010. Look what happened when the GOP/TP took over the congress in 2011. The economy and job market are going downhill again soon after they took control and these crazy totally self-serving GOP/TP are still at it in destroying this country in order to get rid of a black president in this country. They're not just trying to destroy Obama, they're destroying the entire country, and they give give a sh*t as long as they stash enough money away from the middle class. I have absolutely no doubt that they will flee the country in a jiffy as soon as they totally destroy it and there's no money left for them to squeeze out.
Wrong Anita I even filled out a fake thing and it doesn't run through FEMA. Unless State Farm is suddenly FEMA. Oh well they don't offer flood insurance if you live in a flood zone. Well here is a pro tip. Don't live next to a river if you are worried about flooding. Just like you don't live in the north if you don't like snow.
So I have yet to see why we need FEMA from anyone here. I have seen plenty of "Other people need to be responsible for me" things and personal attacks. I love how they blame the teapublicans for the bill that all those democrats voted against (read the article).
So it looks like all the people here have no reason why everyone should pay for the people living in 300 thousand dollar houses insurance (protip FEMA is funded with your taxes) that choose to live on a river that has a chance to flood every year. You people amaze me.
The policies are written by insurance companies, but the funding is from FEMA. It avoids FEMA having to have a network of direct government insurance agents nation wide to write policies.
A government shut down at the hands of the Tea Party following the Tea Party downgrade.
I think an economic depression awaits.
The downgrade was entirely Obama and the Senate Democrats (Reid's) fault. If they agreed to Cut, Cap and Balance (which, by the way is about the only thing that is going to keep us from defaulting in the next 5-10 years), there would have been no downgrade. The House Republican's passed it, the Tea Party supported it...the democrats failed. It's their downgrade.
Did you all miss the part about the House democrats voting no, with the White House administration supporting the vote against disaster relief?
Who's obstructing aid now? The majority of republican's voted for it...it's the democrats that are denying aid.
As far as the Tea Party goes, it seems to be the ONLY group in Washington that advocate responsible spending measures instead of this bloated waste we call the Federal Government.
the tea party faction voted against it because they wanted increases in spending in certain areas be offset by decreases elsewhere. yep, that is pretty draconian. anyone noticed our almost 15 trillion debt and trillion and a half spending deficit?
guess i am draconian too, cuase thats what i do in my household when i have been short on funds.
This is one of the reasons the national debt is high.
http://news.antiwar.com/2011/06/29/study-us-wars-cost-4-trillion-killed-258000/ Study: US Wars Cost $4 Trillion, Killed 258,000137,000 Civilians 'Directly' Killed in Iraq, Afghanistanby Jason Ditz, June 29, 2011Email This | Print This | Share This | Antiwar ForumA new study from Brown University’s Watson Institute has set an estimated that the post 9/11 costs of the assorted wars of the Bush and Obama Administrations has been in the realm of $4 trillion and has directly killed 258,000 people. If this death toll seems a tad low, its because it is. The study readily admits that it is only calculating “direct” kills, and not the indirect deaths from shoddy healthcare, lack of access to food and water, etc in the various occupied nations. The toll includes 137,000 civilians directly killed in Afghanistan and Iraq and notes that there are no reliable figures for the number of civilians killed in Pakistan, but says 35,000 more there is a conservative estimate.
If people take all the new house republican members that were elected last year as members of the Tea Party, that would be 87 member of the Tea Party correct?
Only 48 GOP members voted against it, according the article. That would still leave about 39 voting for giving disaster aid.
Now, if only 48 GOP members voted against it and if this is the fault of the Tea Party, does that mean that there are 182 closest Tea Party members posing as Democrats? HOW DARE THEY DO THAT!?
The downgrade was entirely Obama and the Senate Democrats (Reid's) fault.
Nope, it was entirely the fault of the teapubs. They said they wanted to bring government to a halt and the didn't care or weren't smart enough to believe what economists and others said would happen. The ENTIRE debt ceiling was a "crisis" MANUFACTURED by the teapubs. You can't change the facts.
So what was so inflamitory in this comment that caused a 'collapsed by the community?
Please walk me thorough this process....
Thank you

The Tea Party is the desperate and irrational outcry to a complete Republican meltdown after eight years of Bush and his tax cuts ruined the economy. Lifelong republicans in denial of failure, loose-canons and old-fashioned racists joined together in a cacophony of hate-rhetoric determined to undermine Obama and the economy.
They are shills of the wealthy, protecting vast fortunes from modest tax increases while the country slides into chaos. How many Americans lost loved ones who bravely fought and died for this country, so that the wealthy, who control all the money, could let it self-destruct by refusing to part with a small fraction of their wealth?
The true patriots and heroes of this century are the Warren Buffets who step up to the plate, willing to sacrifice in time of need. Even after a tax increase on the wealthy, the rich will still be rich, but the economy will recover, the debt repaid and the nation saved. If the wealthy won't help in our time of need, why should anyone have died for this country?
Eric: you blame the teaparty for any and everything. Oil subsidies? How on earth does an oil subsidy get into paying for disaster relief? For that matter, what on earth does loaning car companies 1.5 BILLION dollars have to do with disaster relief? You do know that the democrats were the ones attaching that car company loan to the disaster relief and not the other way around.
Because, mygirl1, Cantor and the Tea Party are refusing to allocate disaster relief until they get cuts. And not any cuts. Cuts on Democratic issues. Thus the oil subsidy comment. Why aren't they willing to cut the trillionaire welfare for disaster relief?
You damn well know your party is playing games. Yet you sit here and play ignorant and spin it onto Democrats. I guess it's ok to leave people homeless and without food and medicine as long as it's for Teapublican politics.
Most of the affected are from blue states anyway so it's ok right?
Also, read the damn article before you spew anti-facts. The 1.5 billion for green cars has been attached since before this even became an issue. The Dems didn't just now attach it. But the Repubs just now singled it out to play political games.
Your party is calloused and doesn't care about the lives of little people. End of story. Let them suffer and demand nothing is spent because the majority of it is for blue states. That's your party's guiding ideal on this issue.
I thought the GOPTP didn't like government meddling in the states business. I think we should just let the Red state do without. They'll get what they are asking for.
The Dems voted against helping disaster victims because the bill called for giving the auto companies $1.5 billion less. The auto companies we already bailed out owe the taxpayers their money back, yet they had plenty of taxpayer money to give a $12,500 bonus to the greedy UAW "workers". Even sadder is that the liebama administration drug their heels as the article stated- "The looming (FEMA) shortage has been apparent for months, and the Obama White House was slow to request additional money." I don't know if he purposely waits until things reach crisis stage or it's just his incompetence.
Yep, this one is square on the Tea Party. How interesting that poor Boner now has to get Dem votes to save face somehow. Perfect.
Thanks Tea Party, thanks for the early xmas present! But don't worry, with a little give by the GOP, they can get the Dem votes...but.the Dems will get credit for saving us from another shutdown or downgrade.
Boy, the Independent voters aren't going to like this. The Tea Party has hijacked a once reasonable GOP.
Of course he waits for a crisis, in fact he's so pathetically desperate right now, he's making a fool of himself repeating "pass this bill" so many times. That's how he leads, he doesn't know what to do, so he just sits back until something happens and he is forced to make a decision.
Square on the tea party huh? What a foolish statement. Harry Reid is a buffoon who should be home with his pomegranates as he is neutered without pelousy.
Looks like politics as usual - Dams/Repubs they are both full of idiots that are only in it for the power and money. They (all inclusive) don't care about the middle class
Eric :Democrats were reluctantly voting for it, its the Tea Party that sank the ship.
From story
All but six House Democrats voted against the House GOP bill because they said it lacked enough FEMA funding and because it cut a $1.5 billion investment in green cars. This now gives some negotiating leverage to Democrats.
only the middle class cares about the middle class .. where are the jobs for the middle class the tea party promised ... maybe if we cut enough taxes for the top 2% and cut more from social programs .. more jobs will be created .. I think that worked for Bush
But, Doug, it's because they DO care but have different viewpoints as to the most prudent actions to take that cause these problems. If they didn't care, they would just go along with whatever seems like the easiest road to follow at the time.
Doug - If you care, you show your interest by voting. Last time I checked there were only 2 viable parties so you have to make a choice between them as to which is most likely to address your concerns. No doubt that the Dems are not angels but, at least they have a platform that want to build up the middle class and not just the rich. The current republicans have been hijacked by their extremist base which has no interest in governing. Their only interest is in seeing Obama fail. I don't think you need to be a genius to figure out which party is better for the majority of citizens.
The corporations sold their souls to the chinese a long time ago when they figured out that they could make enornous profits by shipping jobs abroad and selling the goods back to their countrymen at alightly reduced price. On top of that, they have used numerous loopholes to get away from paying the taxes they owe by financial manipulations with dummy corporations staged in other countries. The last 8 years of the Bush administration made this problem even more severe by hamstringing the few regulatory restrictions they may have had in the past and in engaging in a costly war that had no tactical value. Billions of dollars of funds, borrowed from the chinese were funneled for this effort where interested parties friendly to the administration engaged in wholesale looting of the treasury. Now we are at a point in time where unless we correct this error we will go the way of the Roman empire. Instead, the political geniuses have polarized the populace to the point that one side detests the administration to the point that they would rather see the country perish than see the leader succeed. A potent mix of bigotry, greed and stupidity has infected this country and judging from the posts I read, the future doesn't look bright.
I guess no one seems to care about selling our souls to the Chinese to finance all of this. Some of us actually care about our grandchildren.
And, some of our actually care about our fellow citizens. If a government can't assist its citizens (and taxpayers) in a time of natural disaster, why does it exist? Helping citizens (and the economy) recover from a hurricane is every bit as important as fielding a navy.
Of all the things government spends on, assisting a fellow citizen in times of natural disasters is one of the best uses of taxpayer resources. It is also not very expensive in the grand scheme of the budget. The politicians just need a low pork diet to offset any extra spending.
Business as ussual. Allow me to give my overall take on things political. Here is what future students will learn from future history textbooks: When america voted for hope and change, a new extremist faction of the republican party (koch bros t-party), forever closed the only and last window of opportunity for america and the world to avert the greatest of economic depressions with polarizing obstruction and a radically unhonorable ideology.
I caught wind of a stench many years ago and it has never come from the direction of the Democrats. Whenever I see someone getting screwed over Enron style, it is always coming from the Republicans who use "Jaaaayzuuus" as an excuse to rob good people blind.
The disaster aid this country needs is to get rid of the Tea Party!
As well as the idiot-in-chief and all of those who arecheering and bankrupting the country through massive debt spending!!!
Tying these two bill together was wrong, but do not worry....the Republicans will blink...they will fold, and we, as a nation will have to sell even more debt to finance our operations........
But I wonder when Obama will take his fair share of the responsibility in these matters
Hey, marinemom, do you really believe enron wasn't dirty (and supporting Clinton) all during the Clinton administration? Why is it that problems EXIST during dem administrations and are DISCOVERED during repub administrations and the repubs get the blame?
Well, you have to hand it to the democrats when it comes to political one-ups-manship. Obama is also a master at deflection and passing the buck. I fault republicans for being politically stupid when it comes to political brinksmanship. Of course it doesn't take much to fool the followers of the party of spend and borrow, they want that stash.
Sadly, the ones who will take it in the shorts are the citizens, even the ones incapable of seeing the forest for the trees. This annoys me no end but I feel like the guy in the burning house who is compelled to save the stupid in-laws.
The T party only became prominent because the left and left leaning independents sat at home in the last election, sulking like spoiled kids because Obama didn't deliver everything they expected of him. If they don't shake themselves out of that funk and show up in force in the next elections, they will really have something to cry about if we have the likes of fanatics like Perry and Bachman in office. Remember, you have to first get your guy/gal in office first in order to effect change. Even when the Dems had the majority there were a lot of blue dog dems who are essentially republicans disguised as dems. Obama is not a king and had to get what he could with the handicap he had, as he was not going to get any help from the repubs. Considering everything he did accomplish a lot, and he is still the best chance libs have to get what they want.
The dems didn't pass a budget when they had control of both senate and house. Why? To try to show up the republicans. The dems are the "Party of Spend." --Unfortunately, we are out of money.
They are paid to figure this stuff, out. Trying to whack $1.5 B from committed technology development was junior-high politics; a complete waste of everyone's time.
For those telling Obama to keep his hands off your money: This is about disaster aide. When you are in a disaster, I will take my blue state money and spend it to help you get on your red state feet. Do you know why? Because it's the thing to do to help a fellow citizen in need! It's part of living in a civilized society.
do you truly believe that the taxes you pay are being spent in a proper fiscal manner in the governments hands? do you not read the data about how much waste there is in the govt? and now you want to allow them to take more of our money from us in order to continue to spend in a fashion that makes no sense and does nothing but waste it. spending they way the govt does does not work in my budget, why should i give them more. go tea party!
When the economy is weak, it is a bad time to cut the deficit unless you have another political objective. The repubs are praying for a great depression to get rid of the black guy in the white house.
Yes. Getting rid of the tea party is the answer. I mean, look what they stand for. smaller government, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and our constitution.
Those are all the things any socialist would hate.
4give- The T party wouldn't recognize the constitution if it bit them on their collective behinds. Bringing the country to the brink of losing creditworthiness is fiscal responsibility? Smaller government, except where it intrudes into peoples personal lives, where it hurts the most need, but no end to a huge government when it comes to providing giveaways to the rich and corporations making billions scalping the poor and middle class. They sure stand for all the things that make your favorite oligarch proud for a version of the constitution from bizarro world.
Bringing the country to the brink of losing creditworthiness is fiscal responsibility?
Oh, it was the TP not years and years and years of out of control deficit spending by politicians?
The T party wouldn't recognize the constitution if it bit them on their collective behinds.
I would suggest a good (detailed) read and discussion about the constitution...then determine if the government and the politicians may have (at a minimum) at least violated the spirit, if not the articles of this great document.
In Nov. 2012, vote Democrat--senate, house, presidency.
Even after they increase taxes on the wealthy and close loopholes, the rich will still be rich (and still complaining about taxes), but the economy will recover and prosper.
Only the evil, racist Tea Hags will be wailing and gnashing their teeth, bitterly raging that Obama succeeded, when they all prayed for his humiliation and defeat. The Tea Party consists of traitors who want America to fail.
Replyto - The constitution doesn't spell out public education, or a police force either. It doesn't mandate seatbelts in cars or that we have nutritional labels on the food we consume. It is sadly apparent that all these nitwits that yammer on about the constitution, including yourself, have no understanding of it purpose. It is not to specify everything that we do in in this country but to establish a framework on how to go about doing it within its preamble and articles. If you only have a thimble's worth of capacity, then no amount of "detailed" reading of the constitution is going to be of any use. Babbling slogans that have been fed to you by your handlers will only take you so far.
$1.5B for "green cars"! That's the problem and a major reason we're going broke, the gov't is trying to pick economic winners. Here comes another Solyndra, bet on it. Let the major automakers and entrepreneurs find the right technology and fund green technology that is workable and salable; let the free market decide.
Giving gov't money to fund projects like this is the square root of stupid.
Right, the rich oil companies, their executives, the rich banks, their executives all receive their entitlements and the Republicans defend them. But they take the entitlements away from working single mothers with three kids and elderly retirees.

We tried that and Wall Street and the Banks torpedoed the economy!
Are you all on crack cocaine? Eric: who said anything about staying dependent on oil forever? The comment is directed to the fact a) we're going broke, b) we live in a free market economy where the markets not the gov't pick winners and losers.
Chuck: don't want subsidies for the oil companies, either. Where was that in my post?
Ricardo: I have no idea what your drug of choice is, but when you come down, come join the thread.
Life2: By your name it looks like YOU'RE the stupid squared. Clever; ooooooh.
Ol Doc: Again, what does the original post have to do with your hyperbole?
It seems to me that mega wealthy oil companies have been getting subsidies forever...even when they definitely didn't need them. It's time now to back the green energy for at least as long as we have oil. The oil cartel has gotten us into how many wars at the cost of how many lives? Now we're bankrupt and are future is at a pivotal point. Are you going to support the corporations and have a third world country (and that is NOT an exaggeration) or are you in enough pain yet to try something new?
Has anyone done any REAL research on Green cars? Hybrids for example?
Hybrids have better fuel economy. YES and that's about it. Great for the environment (except when you think about disposing of the battery)
Lets talk about Hybrids and electric cars.... They are far more expensive than their counterparts. Oil changes are more expensive. Maintenence in general is more expensive. It is a drain on our Federal Government in the way of subsidies. Replacement cost for hybrid Batteries (which have a HUGE failure rate) runs between $3,000 to $5,000. Unintended consequences? Fewer fill-ups = less gas used = less tax received = less tax funding for roads and bridges = higher taxes for all of us in some form to pay for roads and bridges. (i.e. You pay more for the car, more for maintenence, more repair costs, and higher taxes. That means YOU LOSE)
I think I can handle oil dependency for a while longer. Drill now, R & D to develop low cost alternative fuels and we will get there. Stop trying to get there in a few years when it will take far longer.
Hyperbole rules here. They latch on to one paragraph and Molly-bar-the-door. Now, any one who calls them out on this will soon see the rapidly collapsing post. It would be amusing except that progressive claim the high road and yet all they really want is to silence any and all who disagree or point out flaws in their rationale.
Next you will hear that the teaparty clubs baby seals, flogs slave laborers and hates America and wants to destroy America because.....name any rationale or absurdity.
So Hypocrite. Looking in the mirror much? I mean, if you're looking for hypocrites.... By the way, which oil company do you work for? Enjoy sending all that money overseas? You can live with being a slave to oil for a while longer? Well, sorry but the rest of us are darned tired of being hung out to dry.
hey Huh? if you actually did some real reading you would discover I am 100% correct. Not hypocritical at all.
And how exactly am I a slave to big oil? Please explain. I don't work for them... I don't drive for them... I am not mandated to serve them. Please explain how you have taken someones "catch phrase" and made it true? No one is a slave. I pay for my gas... I guess that makes me a slave? I pay my taxes... am I a slave to the Federal Government? I buy clothing.. am I a slave to Brooks Brothers?
I spoke the truth. Buy a Hybrid and see that I am exactly right. I also said that now is not the time to accelerate the timeline for alternative energies. Now is the time to move slowly, drill our own oil (more of it) and do this over a longer period of time. What happened with Solar Panels? oh yea.. we have to buy them from China. What happened with light bulbs? oops. We don't make them anymore... we get the cool ones from China.
Do you know whats coming next? China has new restrictions on Rare Earth. (most of the rare earth products we use come from China - about 90%) and guess what happened to the cost? it went up! by about 1000% if it were a cup of coffee... it went from $2.00 to about $24.00
How long will you be a slave to the Democrat Party? How long will you buy into what's "good for America" before you realize it is the Democrats who are costing your personal pocketbook tons of money?
Norm - Why is giving incentives to industries that want to invest in technology that gets away from our dependency on oil a bad thing. It is no different than the subsidies that other industries have received over the years, and they haven't known to be all winners either. The T partiers have no interest in coming up with actual solutions. Their only (and stated) goal is to ensure that Obama fails, even if that means the country goes deeper into debt, more unemployment, and another recession. Their motivation lies in an insane hatred for the black man in office and they can't see past that.
Where are the numbers that back up your battery failure rate. Last time I checked about 2 years ago it was below 1% failure.
With more than 100,000 Honda hybrids on the road, the automaker told Newsweek that fewer than 200 had a battery fail after the warranty expired. That’s a 0.002 likelihood. Toyota says its out-of-warranty battery replacement rate is 0.003 percent—or one out of 40,000 Priuses—for the second generation Prius. Based on this rate, and the fact that very few of the second-generation Priuses have been driven beyond the warranty period, perhaps fewer than a dozen have had battery failures after the warranty expired. Replacement rates for the first generation Prius was closer to 1 percent.
VS1: Thank you for a reasonable and thoughtful question. :-) The answer is simple: gov't should not be in the business (typically) of picking winners and losers in the free enterprise market. If the solution is required and viable, such as for renewable energy, etc. the free market should embrace it.
Right now there are dozens if not hundreds of entrepreneurs working in their basements, garages, and small businesses all over this country, not to mention the large ones who make motors or cars, trying to solve the riddle. Throwing gov't money to the politically connected few is a recipe for disaster, i.e. Solyndra.
So, that is my objection, not to mention we're broke and can't afford it.
Norm - There is no free market. Every business small or large depends in some way on government to faciltate their enterprises. Why do you thing the small businesses are not hiring or making money? It is because they need financial assistance for getting loans to pay for their activities. Government can do a lot to help them get these loans, reducing their expenses by reducing taxes, and in a variety of ways. No doubt the deficit and debt are things that must be brought in check but in an economy that is stagnant, it is the role of government to SPEND by investing in such incentives in the short term to stimulate the economy. When you are broke, you either live in a cardboard box on the street, or try to see if you can get assistance from a rich relative or buddies, to tide you over and help you make another start, so you can pay down the debt you owe. That rich relative in this case is the rest of your citizenry in the form of your government.
Regarding solyndra, my point was that the government may have given money to a bum who had no chance of improving. But that one mistake doesn't mean that they did not invest in better, viable enterprises elsewhere. This is the politcal season where every mistake will be screamed at every opportunity by detracters, while ever success will be downplayed.
These lawmakers include House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland and top Appropriations Committee Democrat Norm Dicks of Washington. Both had previously said they would support the measure.
Watching: By golly, you read the entire article and yes, it was the DEMOCRATS WHO VETOED THE BILL BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAVE THE 1.5 BILLION FOR GREEN CARS. The rest of them don't want to see or read facts, they just want to condemn.
O that is just great, now someone wants to add facts to the discussion.....what next?
Both parties have failures and both parties have successes. The news tends to focus on the failures so they get a rise from the general public. As per the article the 1.5 billion was a cut to spending on fuel efficient cars...in other words the government was subsidising car makers if they attempted (key word attempted) to create more fuel efficient automobiles. That is why some republicans voted against the bill as well. Think about it if you where a congressman or woman from Michigan and you voted for the reduction of capital inflow that would help people in your state what do you think would happen come election time.
This is not rocket science, but it is yet another lame platform for people who lack the intelligence for a real comment. Example: The comment that started this communication thread. It has no value at all yet has 44 votes for it.
Democrats don't want to fix what is wrong, they want to tell you who is to blame for it. They want a bigger government for more control and they want your money through higher taxes. This has been the defining principles of that party since the beginning and nobody wants to admit it. Republicans also want to tell you who is to blame for the problem but they want to do it with smaller government and lower or tax breaks to the people.
Less government = lower cost = less deficit. More government = higher cost = higher deficit. Again not rocket science, actually basic business principles here folks.
One last thing: I thought we did have 3 parties; Republican, Independent, and Democrat. Plus you can write in whom ever you want when you vote.
Although I appreciate your well thought comment among all the trash-talking and jingoism, I feel you made a few errors. First, you say both parties want to pass blame (which is true) but you only state that Democrats "don't want to fix what is wrong". The truth is that neither party wants to fix what is wrong... both are doing very well in this situation.
You also stated that Democrats want bigger government for more control, whereas the Republicans want smaller government, etc. But in the first paragraph, you mention that the Republicans who voted with the Democrats did so because they are from the states that benefit from the $1.5 billion. So, at the very least, those Republicans are just fine with big government, when it benefits them. Both parties want control and both want big government, they just want the control and money to go to different things.
And finally, you state that there are three parties, including Independents. But Independents do not comprise a party, they just aren't part of the other Two. There is not Independent caucus, there is not Independent National Committee. Most Independents end up voting for the lesser of two evils.
I, too, am independent, but in the end, I know I'll have to vote for the least worse person the two majors put up.
both paties are knuckleheads, curious why you demonize the reps when the vast mojority voted for the bill. almost all dems voted against the disaster relief. ?????
Economic growth was accelerating when the Democrats were in charge. Economic growth is slowing down NOW, the economy is stalled because of the repubs as expected. The repugs are doing this intentionally for political reasons. The repubs are praying for a Great Depression.
You can bet your bippy that if the government needed money for aid to a foreign country, they wouldn't be able to come up with it fast enough. I wonder when the citizens of the U.S. will say "Enough! Take care of our own first!" The government is sucking all of us dry, regulating every move we make, and then turning their backs on our own people. We can not help anyone else if our own country implodes on itself.
Sorry, but you have contradicted yourself. "Enough" is the cry of the Tea Party. So they ARE turning their backs on our own people. They say no to everything and everyone.
Sorry to contradict you Ricardo...........but even you should realize that the Tea Party always says YES to aid to THEM, THEIR state or their favorite issue........
"That"s different" you should know and they always have really good reasons for why 'that's different" for THEM.
bet Boehmer is now sweating bullets for he has to try and now make a deal with dems to get the thing passed mostly so the republicans do not wind up being blamed for another shut down and also not wanting the dems to potray the republicans as not willing to make sure those hit by disasters get some relief. not caring for hurricane victims and the like. would love to see john squirming over the defeat. in the house
Did anybody read this article? FIVE DEMOCRATS voted WITH the REPUBLICANS. FOTY-EIGHT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS VOTED NO, NADA, ZIP, GO AWAY!!!!! IF twenty of those CONSRVATIVE REPUBLICANS voted yes it would have passed. Of course i twould have failed in the SENATE, because YOUR REPUBLICANS require a SIXTY VOTE MAJORITY to pass ANYHTING.
Chuck, what you say doesn't make sense. If the bill should have passed (morally) and ONLY (you say) five dems voted for it, then how is it the fault of evil republicans because 48 republicans voted like dems?
THANK YOU TEA PARTY. You should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
When true patriotic Americans needed you - you told them to go F themselves because it didn't fit into your little fantasy world where you get your way on everything.
Real Americans will remember this. You are earning more and more of the American people's wrath - and most certainly NOT the admiration you think you're getting.
FOTY-EIGHT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS VOTED NO, NADA, ZIP, GO AWAY!!!!!
along with those democrats. Hmmmmmmm
Appears to me we have found another hypocrite posting on here - one who seems to lie by omission and mislead by his user name. Just my opinion from what I'm reading.
Appologies Chuck - need to give you the writing credit for opening quote.
87 tea party members fourty eight voted no... by my count far more democrats voted NO than Republicans. Funny how you never mentioned that almost no Democrat voted to fund a FEMA bill without having special interest riders attached.
remember Katrina? it took the republicain-ran-government damn near a week to get those people help. Do u think they care about the lil people. Hell No! Only the rich corporation get the breaks not the middle class.
I don't know what all the arguing is about. Repukes/TP have made it abundantly clear they don't want ANYTHING from the federal government. Well that's what you got.....NOTHING. So what's the problem?
Again and again and again, the Republicans are only interested in destroying Obama, not in governing. And it will only get worse and worse and worse. The ship is sinking.
So the Democrats didn't get the special interest rider in the Bill to pay 1.5 billion to auto manufacturers for "green cars" and it's all about Republicans out to destroy Obama?
read that again: Democrats didn't get to give money to Union Controlled Jobs so they killed the bill and denied funding for FEMA disaster relief. Democrats seem to be the obstructionists here. Americans suffering for the sake of Unions!
The 1.5 B was already approved and allocated, the repuglicans added it so they could cut it out, that's why Hoyers and Dicks and all the rest including some repuglicans voted no. That's the Modus Operandi of the repuglicans, add crap to a good bill and then blame the other side for not voting on it. Happened with the health care bill, happened with the debt ceiling, shall I go on.
Well, here we go again, the GOP leadership has failed again, to provide the votes needed to fund our government. The GOP inablity to compromise is financial terrorism, dangerous to our national security, how do you think other nations are viewing our inability to run a democracy? The U.S.A. which once proudly made our economy and our goverment working entities. I am afarid that something like the Middle East Crunch, will be the only thing to bring the country back to the people.
'Financial terrorism' is exactly what the GOP is spouting. This is most worrisome, as a parent and a grandparent. What kind of America will our descendants inherit? Our government is unable to pass legislation to create jobs and support its citizens because of a radical right wing. You are right on, buckeyefan1. VOTE THESE OBSTRUCTIONISTS OUT!!!
Democrats were the obstructionists here. They didn't get to pass money out to union jobs so they make Americans suffer for it. Radical is right. Democrats are sold out to special interests and you blame the Republicans. That is laughable.
read that again: Democrats didnt get the rider to pass out 1.5 billion for "green cars" so they denied FEMA funding
Although my understanding of the situation is differnet from his, I do not understand why WatchinForHypocrites comment was collapsed.
Watchin, from my understanding, the Republicans mashed the FEMA bill with the budget and then cut the 1.5 bil. They tried to use this bill to force the Dems to pass a budget. The FEMA bill should be a standalone. No tricks, no creative math, just money for the assistance of those in need.
Baloney!! The GOP has been obstructing, and obstructing and even denying they caused the debt crisis to begin with. You guys have REALLY screwed up this country financially and ecnomically and now you cant even give disaster aid to people in need. Come 2012, my guess it will be the start of another 40 years out of power! What is REALLY scarey is that you dont even KNOW you're being hoodwinked!!
T-Party needs to go!!! they have sworn an oath to the People of the United states NOT just to their little party. they are truly unamerican and nothing but filthy puppets for the superrich and non carring. Can you just imagine they are keeping funding that helps not only the country to continue to run, but to help those who have been hurt in recent and future acts of mother nature. I can't even think of more trash right now than that of t-party members. To heck with all of them... It just shows you how truly bad Americans can be to one another..
The GOP is a total disaster. The right wing radical cracked teapots don't even want to fund FEMA which is helping out mostly repuke states from disasters. Don't these idiots know that the states wil have to raise taxes to pay for it. Crackpot Ron Paul certainly isn't going to pay for it.
In other words, they are telling their own states to let their residents rot in hell before they will give another dime in taxes to FEMA.
If this does not show the world what these cracked teapots are all about, nothing will.
I am surpirsed Bobby Jingle of LA who took loads of FEMA money as well as Rick Perry and his gun runner state which took a lot of FEMA help and also had Obama send a national firefighting team sent there to help out.
Looks like Grover Nutquist has these right wing radical cracked teapots by the bxlls.
At least those 6 Voted... that is 6 more flexible members of congress than the 46. They'd be tared and feathered if they were GOP. God forbid these guys work together.
The 178 Republicans who voted NO (not a single yes) for the health care bill even though it was Republican style bill with mandates per the Republicans including the mandate for children up to the age of 26 to be added to their parents insurance coverage...yes that was a Republican proposal. Get on planet earth...
who was discussing the Healthcare bill? Can you join us on topic please? Ranting about a time when Republicans voted NO on something just seems petty. So Democrats voted NO on this bill as revenge?
You might want to join us here on planet earth because you are obviously a little lost.
So I guess it's OK for the right wing to do it when they want to but not the dems. This is what happens when the right tries to toss in crap that has no place in a disaster relief bill. Make it stand-alone and we'll see who votes on it then.
Speaker Boehner still has no clue how to count votes! I realize counting with the sun in your face and a beer in your hand is tough but less time under the tanning bed and drinking after five should help with that.
The financial disater in the WH was what Geo. Bush did to the economy with two wars he never paid for. He just left it for Obama to clean up his incompetence.
Solyndra, Skysquared, Fast & furious, Stimulus plan, Obamacare...can you hear the sucking sound of your money going down the toilet? Obama makes Bush look like a genius.
You here that big sucking sound? That's the sound of how much all the right wing nontroversies suck.
All the right wing accusers have less than 0 credibility after all the lies they've leveled at Obama for years.
Do any of these nontroversies tie into Obama being a secret socialist muslim Kenyan with no birth certificate? I lose track how it all ties in now that Glenn Beck's not on Fox with his blackboard anymore.
@Dangerous Mind....well the name fits. So you think that billions of dollars spent on failing companies owned by Obama political contributors, or schemes where the money is just unaccounted for is a nontroversy? How much money does it take to get your attention? By the way, these aren't Republican pipe dreams. They are reported right here on the highly liberal MSNBC.
After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the George W. Bush administration flooded the conquered country with so much cash to pay for reconstruction and other projects in the first year that a new unit of measurement was born.
Pentagon officials determined that one giant C-130 Hercules cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time.
At least $9 billion is unaccounted for due to a complete lack of oversight.
Talk about a transfer of wealth, right out of the pockets of the middle class & the poor & into the hands of Bush Cronies working as contractors for him & Cheney in a falsely declared war on a country that had committed NO AGGRESSION against the USA.
ChickenHawk politics equates to Chicken$#|t policy.
My concern is what message this will send to those who are watching Congress -- this appears to be the same behavior that led our credit rating to be dropped and other countries doubt our ability to find common ground. What do we as a country really want????
Unless we want to go back to the 19th century except with a less functioning government than we had then, I would venture to say it's not the same as what the Tea Party wants.
What I would like to see our country be is one that will take care of their own and stay out of every other countries business. First of all though we have to see the cracked teapots (I thought that was funny) ran out of politics. Then we need to set term limits in Congress. These lifers have got to go so the parties can NEVER be bought like they are now. Both of them.
The disaster aid we need in the US goes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy past Hurricanes and Tornadoes. With Congress playing the partisan theme on everything that comes before them, attempts to right this country go nowhere. Familiar picture: A room full of men and women in suits. Half seated glumly and pouting. The other half standing and clapping. Like a bunch of little kids. I wish we had an adult, responsible concerned-for-the-country Congress. But, we don't. It's a JOB...me me me....my salary, my benefits, my pension, my office, my summer home, my boat, my cars......me me me..... Who pays them? WE DO. Whose money do they spend? OUR MONEY. Who do they listen to? PAID LOBBYISTS. I'm just sick of the whole thing. The US is in deep trouble. I also foresee a civil war in this country within the next 50 years. A major "power" with no national healthcare, poor education, a rising poverty level and shrinking middle class, no jobs......Trouble on the horizon....big trouble....
To be fair, they do spend the lobbyist money quite a bit too. Ask John Boehner passing out tobacco lobby checks on the floor of the House. That was a gem.
Great post Karen, Good grief, Your parents must have been proud to have raised a child with such common sense. Why can't many of the people in this Country wise up? In Texas it's because we have such a poor Educational system thanks to good old Perry. That's our excuse for lack of good judgement. It is simply amazing that so many continue to blame one man (President Obama), and yet refuse to acknowledge who caused this mess in the first place. OUR DO NOTHING CONGRESS is killing this Nation. I'm also sick of it. My Mother always worried before she died about another revolution, and she predicted former President Bush would win by hook, or crook. She also feared something like 911 would happen. She never enjoyed being right about these horrors. I'm afraid we have lost our own Democracy as we once knew it, and we have many in the Republican Party who also wish to ignore our own Constitution, and disrespect President Obama. Why? Well, I've got a good Idea, but I just hate to say it.
What a stupid dittohead lemming slogan... must be one of the new ones , you know, “socialist”, birthers, etc is so passe now...
OF COURSE there’s class warfare, you dolt! Corporate America is doing it’s level best to make subjects of the citizens of this country and they’re buying up all the republiCon politicians on the way.
RepubliCons cannot govern, they simply feed at the public trough.
I guess the left prefers "progressive"... is sounds so modern and enlightened.
You will not speak to or admit his role in the dysfunction... as long as hes SAYS bi-partisan, that's enough for you.
You will not speak to the Dems refusal ('no') to support stop gap funding of FEMA.
Our oh-so-pure and blameless progressive statesmen in the democrat party are sooo above graft and corruption.. these masters of transparency and honor are truly a marvel. Who is feeding at that $1.5 billion trough, I wonder....
Class warfare is attacking social security and working people's pensions. Attacking working people's unions, while promoting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and organizations like the Business Roundtable.
That 1.5 B was for green car research that was already approved, I guess that would mean jobs, but since the repuglicans added it to a disaster relief bill to cut it and use the money the dems voted no. Pretty straight forward to me. Why don't you keep your 3cents to yourself.
Mr. Boehner, you don't run the Insane asylum. The 87 TEA/PUBLICANS do. You are toast.
A government shut down at the hands of the Tea Party following the Tea Party downgrade.
I think an economic depression awaits.
Wow.
How about the truth.
Harry Reid setting this all up for failure so sheeple like you can get excited
Chuck- Along with the rest of the country.
Funny...I could have sworn Harry Reid is a Senator.
Not Democrats.
The right has gone crazy I swear to god.
mygirl1
The sentence should read,
I've read where FEMA is backed by CIA drug money. Maybe we should let it die out.
Go figure.
im pretty sure the number of jobs saved was 41000. i could be wrong but im pretty sure
also the dems voted against this bill and if they get some incentive to vote for this bill they will. and thats how democracy works.
This country is being killed by the cancerous republican "tea party".
Both sets of numbers stated in the article.
Mac,
The Tea Party wouldn't even exist if not for the whacko left spending other peoples money like theres no tommorro.
No...........massive $120,000,000,000,000.00 in total US unfunded liabilities.....

obstructionist democrats!
This has gone far enough.
Get rid of the Tea Party kooks.
Let's get back to a functional government that debates the issues and compromises on solutions.
The Tea Party are criminals to Democracy.
The republican mantra..."Let 'em DIE!!!"
Has anyone ever figured out how you actually count jobs "saved"? I must be having a math problem.
Yeah them dang commies want to change the world. Teach evolution, make us learn foreign languages, and let them terrorists from the country of Africa come 'ere and bomb us!
Dang them commies!
God bless Rick Perry and Texas!
Well, if YOU are right, where are the millions of jobs which should have been created over the last decade by the Bush tax cuts???
John, you need to ask the Republicans in Congress. They are the ones that campaigned on creating jobs during the last election and to date have done nothing to create jobs.
Duh, life was pretty good if you were willing to work during the majority of Bush's term, right up until the housing bubble in large part due to the democratic Congress, That's more than I can say for doughbama's reign., Thanks to him, your health insurance is going up, gas is high, if he tries to "share the wealth" by taxing the rich, you morons can't seem to see the forest for the trees, it is going to come out of your pockets in the form of price increases.
As is the god king and his collective whores led by reid and pelosi......

Democrats and independents understand that there is a debt problem. They just don't believe you have to burn down the house before you renovate it.
I want to know why we need FEMA funding.
Disgusting.
So 48 Republicans voted no ... So who were the other 182 that also voted no ?
That would Democrats ... yet the news will tell us its the Tea Party. Sheep to the slaughter.
Ummm they don't offer flood insurance?http://www.usinsuranceonline.com/home-insurance/policy-types/flood-insurance.php?wsc=1&adv=1&kw=%5bFlood+Insurance%5d&tk=R29vZ2xlLGFkd29yZHMsSG9tZSAtIFR5cGVzLEZsb29kX0luc3VyYW5jZSxbRmxvb2QgSW5zdXJhbmNlXQ%3d%3d&heading=Flood+Insurance+-+Free+Online+Quotes&size=32&top=32"eType=HOM-FLOOD&gclid=CPKAsd6XsKsCFcJrKgodpGOYcw This link says I can buy flood insurance. Am I the only person who actually looks into these things? So you can call me a troll all you want but I have been through 4 hurricanes in my lifetime when I was living on the coast of Virginia. Not once have I needed the government to bail me out.
182 Democrats voted against the bill. Are they against keeping Government open, keeping money for disaster aid flowing?
10 Representatives did not vote.
Only 48 republicans voted against the bill so the rest were dems.
So what does that mean you leftists?
Media bias in action.
@Mygirl You did NOT read the article. That funding is part of the cuts the republicans wanted to make to balance the additional funding for FEMA. Dems are saying no they don't want that cut...find something else. So the car companies still get their 1.5 billion...But FEMA gets nothing.
S.S.D.D.
It is like a perverted "Groundhog Day". Every morning I wake up and the nutballs are still there, playing the same partisan games.
Wow the liberal clueless are out in force today.
It looks like Boehner is feeling the heat.
Thank you

When will people understand that monies that we will have to borrow and finance are monies that we do not have?
I realize this can be a challenging concept for many, but you cannot, no matter what the god king tells you or feeds to you....continue to outspend what you make...as the god king told us, "This is math"
Tea Party Downgrade???? No...........massive $120,000,000,000,000.00 in total US unfunded liabilities.....

The repubs have been ramming tax cuts for the rich down the throats of the middle class.
Leave it to the Demoncrats to play dodge ball with the needs of the public.
Spo de o de You DID read that 48 REPUBLICANS voted NO, RIGHT? You mean you skipped that line? Why am I not surprised?
Why didn't republicans use oil subsidies to pay for it? Hmmmm?
Nice try, but it's the Tea Party at fault here.
Democrats were reluctantly voting for it, its the Tea Party that sank the ship.
No false equivalencies here. The Democrats may not care much, but they care more than Teapublicans.
only the middle class cares about the middle class .. where are the jobs for the middle class the tea party promised ... maybe if we cut enough taxes for the top 2% and cut more from social programs .. more jobs will be created .. I think that worked for Bush
I think they just do not care.............or are just to inept and entrenched
replytoj001
I guess no one seems to care about selling our souls to the Chinese to finance all of this. Some of us actually care about our grandchildren.
Eric-913730......"Democrats were reluctantly voting for it, its the Tea Party that sank the ship."
NEWSFLASH.....Erico......
READ THE ARTICLE(S) BEFORE......you make your continuous, same, old rhetoric comments.
Oh, reading is your problem and not because you are a Liberal. Shucks, they are both the same.
The disaster aid this country needs is to get rid of the Tea Party!
*applause*
Business as ussual. Allow me to give my overall take on things political. Here is what future students will learn from future history textbooks: When america voted for hope and change, a new extremist faction of the republican party (koch bros t-party), forever closed the only and last window of opportunity for america and the world to avert the greatest of economic depressions with polarizing obstruction and a radically unhonorable ideology.
Only if you get rid of obstruction from the left as well. It is BOTH sides and if you cannot see that? then you are a liar.
I caught wind of a stench many years ago and it has never come from the direction of the Democrats. Whenever I see someone getting screwed over Enron style, it is always coming from the Republicans who use "Jaaaayzuuus" as an excuse to rob good people blind.
As well as the idiot-in-chief and all of those who arecheering and bankrupting the country through massive debt spending!!!
Tying these two bill together was wrong, but do not worry....the Republicans will blink...they will fold, and we, as a nation will have to sell even more debt to finance our operations........
But I wonder when Obama will take his fair share of the responsibility in these matters
replytoj001
This annoys me no end but I feel like the guy in the burning house who is compelled to save the stupid in-laws.
mygirl--YOU are the master at deflection.
Considering everything he did accomplish a lot, and he is still the best chance libs have to get what they want.
which is more and more gvmt spending and more and more debt. Gvmt is not the solution, government is the problem.
Obama, keep your filthy hands off MY money. Go get a loan from Warren Buffet and George Soros.
applause!!!!! 5 thumbs up!
That's why we need to raise taxes on millionaires. That's where the money is.
For those telling Obama to keep his hands off your money: This is about disaster aide. When you are in a disaster, I will take my blue state money and spend it to help you get on your red state feet. Do you know why? Because it's the thing to do to help a fellow citizen in need! It's part of living in a civilized society.
FEMA is responsible for a lot more than just disaster relief
do you truly believe that the taxes you pay are being spent in a proper fiscal manner in the governments hands? do you not read the data about how much waste there is in the govt? and now you want to allow them to take more of our money from us in order to continue to spend in a fashion that makes no sense and does nothing but waste it. spending they way the govt does does not work in my budget, why should i give them more. go tea party!
Oh, it was the TP not years and years and years of out of control deficit spending by politicians?
I would suggest a good (detailed) read and discussion about the constitution...then determine if the government and the politicians may have (at a minimum) at least violated the spirit, if not the articles of this great document.
replytoj001
Hey Norm, let's stay oil dependent forever......(rolls eyes)
norm903
But you don't have ANY PROBLEM would giving MULTI BILLION DOLLAR OIL COMPANIES SUBSIDIES from the AMERICAN TAXPAYER, Right? I didn't think so.
Right, the rich oil companies, their executives, the rich banks, their executives all receive their entitlements and the Republicans defend them. But they take the entitlements away from working single mothers with three kids and elderly retirees.
The square root of stupid is Norm.
Awaiting your replies.
WatchinForHypocrites
Where are the numbers that back up your battery failure rate. Last time I checked about 2 years ago it was below 1% failure.
This is the politcal season where every mistake will be screamed at every opportunity by detracters, while ever success will be downplayed.
hey did you hear that the teaparty clubs baby seals, and have flogs slave laborers !!
My God what a bunch a Sick Bastards! sarc =)
does anyone think we will be using gasoline in our cars 50 years from now ?
How can they vote down aid to americans, and still give aid to other countrie
Because the GOPTP party YOU are voting for doesn't want federal assistance.
Good going Red States...how do you like THOSE apples?!
only 6 dems voted for the measure. Party of NO
How do you like the truth?
Amen Brother! Amen!
The Republican Party is a Failure . . .
The Democrats are LIARS;
From story;
The Obstructionist Democrat Party. Only 6 voted in favor of the measure. Democrats... the Party of NO!
If they cant have special interest projects stuck in a bill they just say NO
Did the Democrats say YES to a straight up bill? NO
The Democrat party is the REAL failure.
O that is just great, now someone wants to add facts to the discussion.....what next?
replytoj001
:)
.. Americans disagree on politics - film at 11.
Both parties are failures.
I am so disgusted with both. I am now an independent.
Ignorant people follow the dems and repubs.
Does that mean that you no longer vote? I guess it comes down to the lesser of 2 evils at least until we have a 3rd party.
To those that said the Republican Party is a failure. If that is the case what is Obama?
Plus you can write in whom ever you want when you vote.
dmd,
Although I appreciate your well thought comment among all the trash-talking and jingoism, I feel you made a few errors.
You can bet your bippy that if the government needed money for aid to a foreign country, they wouldn't be able to come up with it fast enough
Depends on if that country has oil or drugs.
Dont worry the next Hurricane or Tornado that strikes (and it will) America will then see who the true failures in this Government are.
I wonder if Gov. Perry wants any of that Goverment relief money for Texas....
Nah...Texas is ruff and tumble...they'll take care of themselvers....
bet Boehmer is now sweating bullets for he has to try and now make a deal with dems to get the thing passed mostly so the republicans do not wind up being blamed for another shut down and also not wanting the dems to potray the republicans as not willing to make sure those hit by disasters get some relief. not caring for hurricane victims and the like. would love to see john squirming over the defeat. in the house
Chuck your mean blue dog they are not Dem.
Chuck, what you say doesn't make sense. If the bill should have passed (morally) and ONLY (you say) five dems voted for it, then how is it the fault of evil republicans because 48 republicans voted like dems?
Me too!
Neither side cares about the American Middle-Class. Every man for themself!!!
They can't be ashamed... because they HAVE NO SHAME.
and only 6 democrats voted for the measure. Hmmmmm
along with those democrats. Hmmmmmmm
Appears to me we have found another hypocrite posting on here - one who seems to lie by omission and mislead by his user name. Just my opinion from what I'm reading.
Appologies Chuck - need to give you the writing credit for opening quote.
This is incredible, with all the natual disters that have hit America, and the GOP refuses to help??
Is this really what America has become??
The can't risk Obama looking effective if those people get help.
Quite frankly Everett I think it's great. NOW people might stop and think when they vote.
Did you read where only 6 Democrats voted for the measure? Dems = the Party of NO
LOL They just let anyone in here don't they? lol lol lol
Hypocrite - Funny howyou don't EVER mention the FOURTY-EIGHT Republians who votes AGAINST THe BILL. People in glass houses......
87 tea party members fourty eight voted no... by my count far more democrats voted NO than Republicans. Funny how you never mentioned that almost no Democrat voted to fund a FEMA bill without having special interest riders attached.
Hmmmmm
Also funny how you seem to continue the RNC spin...
Hmmmm!
Maybe not so funny after all...just sad.
remember Katrina? it took the republicain-ran-government damn near a week to get those people help. Do u think they care about the lil people. Hell No! Only the rich corporation get the breaks not the middle class.
If you find the truth Funny, then yea I guess it is a little funny.
LOL you just keep on with the "DEM SPIN" and pray it all comes out your way.
I don't know what all the arguing is about. Repukes/TP have made it abundantly clear they don't want ANYTHING from the federal government. Well that's what you got.....NOTHING. So what's the problem?
VOTE 2012
hurricane most of the time hit slave states down south. good luck red states
But this time it hit mostly blue states. And I think that's a factor in the right voting no on it.
we don't have any slave states in America. Did you miss History Class?
Did cantor vote against it?
Too few millionaires suffered from natural disasters for the Tea Buggers to pass the Aid Bill.
House RepubliCons themselves are an Unnatural Disaster. Toss them out next year.

Baloney!! The GOP has been obstructing, and obstructing and even denying they caused the debt crisis to begin with. You guys have REALLY screwed up this country financially and ecnomically and now you cant even give disaster aid to people in need. Come 2012, my guess it will be the start of another 40 years out of power! What is REALLY scarey is that you dont even KNOW you're being hoodwinked!!
who is being hoodwinked. You need to learn how the Democrat Party is ruining our country in the name of "saving" it.
WatchinForHypocrites
read that again: Democrats didn't get the rider to pass out 1.5 billion for "green cars" so they denied FEMA funding
SO? Repukes/TP don't want ANY government interference. You got what you wanted...what's the problem?
This is incredible, with all the natural diasters that have hit America, and the GOP refuses to help??
Is this really what America has become??

Watchin the 1.5 B was already approved and allocated, the right wanted to cut it out.
They swore their alliance to the Koch brothers. That alone should be against their oath to the people they represent.
All but 6 Democrats voted NO to funding FEMA LOL
At least those 6 Voted... that is 6 more flexible members of congress than the 46. They'd be tared and feathered if they were GOP. God forbid these guys work together.
so the 147 Democrats who voted NO? Just because they couldn't pass money to "BIG GREEN"?
Bone head needs to go into a corner and cry. This man has no backbone and should not be speaker on the house.
We need aid in getting this financial disaster out of the White House!
The best thing Obama could do is to cut off any emergency aid to any state where a radical right wing cracked teapot voted against funding FEMA.
Heehee! Cracked teapot! Oh, that's soooo clever.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah Obama blah blah blah blah.
Karen......great post........you sound exactly like my wife and she is right on also.
We elect millionaires and who do they represent? Other millionaires....and that is regardless of party
GO Karen!! Very well said!
Here comes another credit downgrade courtesy of our dysfunctional government.
Who's impeding progress on this? Is it the whole government? Where did the no's come from? Not the left.
There is a simple answer to this ongoing GOP incompetence and obtructionism problem, when the 2012 election arrives. DO NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN !!!!!!!
of course, Pres. Class Warfare plays no role in our dysfunction or obstruction.
of course, it's easy to say 'yes' to everything when you don't actually produce any GDP.
BUT WAIT... it was the dems that said 'no', right?
- no, not enough largess in what is only a stop gap package
- no, not enough crony money per the $1.5B of WTF money (how is this 'green car' stuff related to emergency relief aid again?)
DO NOT VOTE DEMOCRAT -- they are squandering your kid's future, because they cannot reduce spending.
Pres. “Class warfare”?
What a stupid dittohead lemming slogan... must be one of the new ones , you know, “socialist”, birthers, etc is so passe now...
OF COURSE there’s class warfare, you dolt! Corporate America is doing it’s level best to make subjects of the citizens of this country and they’re buying up all the republiCon politicians on the way.
RepubliCons cannot govern, they simply feed at the public trough.
oooh, nice demeaning, name-calling comeback.
