I thought we had a president that was for all people. Why do black people still segregate themselves. If all whites met together like this, the screams from everybody across this nation would be deafening.
Who are the true racists in this country that continue to keep this issue alive.....
Obama to blacks: I don't give a sh*t about your problems. Just shut up and show up at the polls. Pull the damn Democrat lever and go the hell back home. Don't make me look bad whining about the lack of jobs. Aren't all the handouts I give you enough for you ingrates?!
Liberals wanting media attention with Mr. Obama ..... way down.
Democratic Party approval of Mr. Obama ..... down.
Latinos approval of Mr. Obama ..... way down.
World's approval of Mr. Obama's International agenda ...... down.
Wait a minute....maybe he can get some support from the Black Caucus which recently stated they are tired of covering for him.
I agree that the President REPRESENTS ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE....but with Mr. Obama......that is a completely different story. His main targets to support: special interest groups and Unions. The rest get thrown under the bus for HIS agenda.
BS! Obama is for all of us. Just because he speaks to the Black caucus and identifies with them doesn't mean he's neglecting anybody else. He speaks for me and millions of other white people in this country. What's good for African Americans is good for European Americans, too.
Obama does not do anything to help blacks because he knows they will vote for him just because he is black. He does not need to do anything to win over their vote. Obama would rather spend his time trying to convince those that he does not have in his pocket to vote for him. Obama's supporters are some of the biggest racists on the planet. They would call any black who does not vote for Obama just because he is black a traitor to his race and they call any non-black who dares to criticize anything Obama does a racist. I am fed up with this absurdity.
African Americans are just like any other group of people on this planet. They want segregation when it's to their advantage. And they want to be treated equally when it's to their advantage. Obama is an Oreo.
Obama to blacks: I don't give a sh*t about your problems. Just shut up and show up at the polls. Pull the damn Democrat lever and go the hell back home
Are you saying that obama/democrats take the black vote for granted?????
No way.....way....
But what is so sadly pathetic is that obama/democrats can take theblack vote for granted and not have to even worry about trying to earn the black community's vote.....
If his slang, pandering manner doesn't insult the majority of African Americans, his empty promises should.
My guess is that unless Herman Cain gets the Republican nomination or runs as an independent, this segment of his voters will likely stay home in 2012, as there will be no one left to vote for.
It's sad really that we have come to this divisive, race-based place, when real progress has been made.
The reality of today though is that most of us vote for who we think is going to do the best job, and fewer and fewer people believe that person is Obama.
The problem is this. College educated people are much less likely to find themselves unemployed. Those with only hs diploma, or worse drop-outs are the ones most likely to be unemployed and frankly going forward the future looks grim. The unskilled worker will be stuck taking the minimum wage job, unless they choose to educate themselves. The mayor of Philly tried a month or so ago to convey this message to the black community but got condemned instead. He spoke about how it looks to an employer when a person looking for a job shows up with pants falling off their backside. You can google what he said which was very blunt.
The issue is within the black community and only they can make it right. It has all to do with the family structure that for many kids is absent. It is because of that lack of parental guidance that many of the kids drop out. Those kids go on to have kids themselves and only in rare circumstances do some break out of such dire circumstances.
Some years ago, I worked with a lot of Asians. Many lived together in one house pooling their money. Many of those I knew could barely speak English. But one thing there were really good at doing is digging out of poverty. They focused on the brass ring and worked like crazy to build a life for their families. There is something to be learned by watching others.
Democrats have long taken for granted the black vote. The last election showed blacks winning elections in republican districts which is really good news. It will be the rise of the conservative blacks that will eventually bring back the black family and thus the desire to stay in school and that is when things will change for the better.
Obama should have been an excellent role model and I am sure for some blacks he is. Unfortunately Obama lives in a very different world from most blacks and so his influence has been minimal. Look where Obama chooses to vacation. Most whites would not fit in on Martha's Vineyard unless they were dripping in wealth. How does an unemployed, unskilled black man relate to Obama that has been living amongst the elite for most of is life?
I for one am not going to bust my ass trying to see to it that Obama gets re-elected. The only time he gets tough is when he addresses the liberal base. He bends over and takes it from the Republicans on every issue. This is exactly what we as black people get. We thought everything would be all right if a black man were elected. Now our fearless black leader is stickin' it to the middle class and poor just like a conservative. What's interesting is that white conservatives hate this guy when he gives in to the on nearly every issue. What a joke! I'd rather see a stinking tea party moron win the election and completely run this motha into the ground.
Please elect Perry or even better Bachmann. Either of those two would assure that America slips into a feudal state. It would be worth it to see the looks on the faces of conservative white people when they finally realize that these people have nothing but contempt for them and that all of the horrible ways that the government treated blacks before the civil rights era was just a dry run for dealing with them when they challenge power.
Black people and white people are both stupid, whiny, gullible idiots that have been relegated to attacking each other for the scraps left after the wealthy power brokers finish feasting on the resources produced here in America.
There is a class war that has been waged against the middle class since the 80's. Wages have been falling, productivity has been increasing and the wealth of the power brokers has grown exponentially. Knowing all of that, poor and middle class black and white Americans routinely meet on blogs like this one and rip each other apart. Each group claiming that the other is taking something from the other, all of the while the wealthy laugh at you morons.
I know that unemployment is higher in the black community, but a higher percentage of working poor are black and that is the group that has been hit hardest. i'm sure that the unemployment rate of poor whites, while not as high as the unemployment rate among blacks, is higher than that of more educated whites. Poor and middle class blacks and whites are in the same sinking boat.
I hope that you all can eat the hostility that you are clinging to because when the robber barons get through with you sheeple, that's all you'll have to nourish yourselves.
Black people and white people are both stupid, whiny, gullible idiots that have been relegated to attacking each other for the scraps left after the wealthy power brokers finish feasting on the resources produced here in America.
Poor and middle class blacks and whites are in the same sinking boat.
Excellent reminders....black, white, purple, green, straight, gay, bi, minority, majority....it does not matter.....we are all being put into the sinking boat...
But as long as those in power keep us focused on going after each other we do not keep our focus on them....wake up everyone....get educated...get involved.....and do not settle for talking points that are produced by a paid consultant whose job is to divide us.....
President Obama has completely ignored the Black community needs until now... Until he needs them to win his election. After I am sure he will go back to ignoring them.
As far as I'm concerned, calling minorities who organize to advocate for their rights the "true racists" is about as racist as it gets.
If racism didn't exist, if jobs inequality didn't exist, if equalities of justice and opportunity didn't exist then maybe....maybe you would have a point.
Obama only represents the views of those who despise the constitution, despise liberty, and worship enslavement to a socialist/totalitarian state.
Oh right! So, what wing nut propaganda have you been listening too, Rush Limbaugh? But seriously, Larry, do you really believe that tripe? Because your post sounds way out there, Larry, I gotta tell ya, even beyond the fringe, that's the land of tinfoil hats my friend.
But anyway, please explain it to those of us who you've left behind. You are referring to liberals and social progressives I gather, yes?
But why would anyone, even a libtard, hate the constitution, hate liberty, and worship enslavement? Us libtards love the constitution, Larry. I personally appreciate the freedom of religion it affords, especially the freedom FROM religion. We libtards don't want to be forced by law to live according to OTHER PEOPLE's religion.
If conservatives want to live in a theocracy why don't they just move to Iran or Saudi Arabia and leave us heathens alone? It's almost exactly the same thing over there as that Christian theocracy you want to establish here - rigid authoritarian laws to enforce a very similar moral code. The only difference is Mohammad instead of Jesus and you'll get used to that quickly.
Samuel Adams stated: "The utopian schemes of leveling [redistribution of wealth], and a community of goods, are as visionary and impracticable as those that vest all property in the Crown. [These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional."
the following are all from the Communist Manifesto with the tie to US policies or law in parentheses
A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. (eminent domain)
Abolition of all rights of inheritance. (estate tax)
Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly. (Federal Reserve)
Centralization of the means of communication and transport in he hands of the state. (FCC & Dept Of Transportation)
Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. (AIG, GM, Dept of Agriculture, OSHA, EPA)
Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. (unionism)
Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country. (urbanization)
Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc (John Dewey a communist and founder of American Public Schools -Dewey considered "the great task of the school" to be "to counteract and transform those domestic and neighborhood tendencies" which he specifically and accurately identified as "the influence of home and Church." In order for Dewey's "progressive" agenda to advance, the moral authority of "home and Church" would have to be undermined and replaced with the authority of the state.)
“The bourgeois family will vanish as a matter of course when its complement vanishes, and both will vanish with the vanishing of capital. (homosexual marriage, feminism)
“seek to end all religious belief and practice (which is a common sentiment here by the socialists)
"That is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest." James Madison 1792
Thomas Jefferson asserted: "Giving Congress a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole [Constitution] to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly, no such universal power was meant to be given them. [The Constitution] was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect."
We need to abolish the depts of Education, Energy, Health & Human Services, Labor, OSHA, EPA, Transportation, phase out SS & Medicare, abolish the Federal Minimum Wage, abolish the FCC, return student loan programs back to private lenders, end all Food Stamp programs, Federal welfare, Federal unemployment insurance payments, and a host of other unconstitutional programs. These are all unconstitutional programs that promote a socialist totalitarian state-And Obama is a cheerleader for all them
Socialism is collectivism and is reflected in Obama's speeches constantly.
From a socialist website:
socialism is not statism, or the collective ownership of the means of production. It is a judgment on the priorities of economic policy. It is for that reason that I believe that... the community takes precedence over the individual in the values that legitimate economic policy. The first lien on the resources of a society therefore should be to establish that 'social minimum' which would allow individuals to lead a life of self-respect, to be members of the community.
-- Daniel Bell, The Cultural Contradictions of Capitalism, p. xii
Larry, you must have spent a lot of time putting together your cut and paste post...or perhaps you've been told what to think?
All that garbage from the Communist Manifest either does not mean what you say it means, does not apply to what you say it applies, or you have misrepresented it. I'm not going to refute each of your claims, but I could.
The idea that Obama is a socialist is from out in left field. I think it originated with the bailout, but that's Keynesian economics not "socialism".
I suggest you look up the definition of "socialism". All I can figure is that you don't know what it means. That's the only logical explanation to your rantings.
PLEASE GOD GIVE THE DEMS A PRIMARY CHALLENGER TO RUN AGAINST OBAMA!! I'm sick of his attitude toward us black people! If he's not ignoring us he's busy chastising us. Go to hell, you elitist scum! No words for Troy Davis but when your Harvard pal gets harassed by the cops you invite him to the White House. I guess if more blacks were rich we would get more attention in between elections.
African Americans are just like any other group of people on this planet. They want segregation when it's to their advantage. And they want to be treated equally when it's to their advantage. Obama is an Oreo.
LOL! You remind me of Geprge Jefferson, except he calls people that are biracial Zebras. :D
Who are the true racists in this country that continue to keep this issue alive.....
Fox News Viewers. What? YOU ASKED! If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.
But what is so sadly pathetic is that obama/democrats can take theblack vote for granted and not have to even worry about trying to earn the black community's vote.....
That's because the GOP drives them out of the party and over to the DNC. The DNC can take them for granted only as long as the GOP doesn't want them.
And the cry babies still think the media is liberal - no way does this go to print if Bush made the same statements to Whites.
And as the ugly Americans fuel their fear of Blacks, the Hispanics slipped past all of them. So in church today when your preachers say basically the same things to you as Obama said to the blacks - your heads will be in full bobble head mode with approval of everything fed to you - yep, you got it all figured out all right. My brother gets so mush crap stuffed down his throat at church, it's a wonder has any thoughts of his own anymore.
Their are so many different colors of people these days - who has time to put them all in to categories. Think of all the wasted time humans have spent on anger and hate - wasted lives.
Hey braindamage, oops, drainbramage, you post is NUTS. I am white and Herman Cain is my favorite Republican and I am sure there are others here that feel the same. The racist accusations based on fear are getting really OLD!
I read an article today that really bothered me and makes me wonder even more about our president. I wonder why MSNBC hasn't pointed this tragedy out to their readers??? Seems like they still support this guy that is bringing ruin upon this country and others!
I thought we had a president that was for all people. Why do black people still segregate themselves. If all whites met together like this, the screams from everybody across this nation would be deafening.
Who are the true racists in this country that continue to keep this issue alive.....
m...
It is the larger society - that is not controlled by Blacks - that segregates Backs.
Blacks do not segregate themselves into poverty, poor education, poor health, poor housing, high unemployment, voter disenfranchisment, etc.
It is clear who does the segregating in the country.
Do NOT blame the victims for the oppression that they have experienced.
Until the racial disparities in this country are effectively addressed - these race issues will continue to be "alive."
Who are the true racists?
The folks that perpetuate 2 separate and unequal societies.
...black unemployment is nearly double the national average at 16.7 percent.
For starters, instead of having a First Baptist, a Second Baptist, a Northern Baptist, and a Southern Baptist Church on every other block in every black neighborhood, which stays close 6 out of 7 days; we should convert about half of these under utilized churches into black-own-businesses, such as day-care centers, laundromats, super-markets, bowling alleys, beauty saloons, bookstores, clothing stores, etc., etc., hiring blacks in the process.
I bet unemployment among black teenagers would drop significantly.
Blacks in this country to entirely too much hand wringing and whining sometimes. Who better to tell them to get off the butts, stop complaining and get to work to make the changes that are needed for you in this country? How is that racist?
He thinks he's the reincarnation of Lincoln, FDR, IKE, JFK and MLK....all rolled into one....Of course "March with me" was not so subtle code for Blax vs. Whyte....Equating his re-election with the Civil Rights Movement. ""Take off your bedroom slippers. Put on your marching shoes,".....as if welfare queens have marching shoes.... I guess next thing will be a voucher for a new pair of AirJordans for anyone that is a constituent of the CBC...
Love the fact that Obama haters are always the first ones responding to news stories these days. The Republican attack volunteers are lurking for any news stories they can attack.
So now BO fancies himself as a modern day Martin Luther King. Let me assure you Mr. Obama, you are no Martin Luther King. Try sticking with being the second coming of Jimmy Carter.
Look, the RACIST DOUCHEBAG PARTY wants to speak for blacks! As if they aren't trying to end EVERY law that protects us from racism in this country under THEIR LIE of FREE SPEECH.
What does it take for the Douschebaggers to get what they want? THE BIG GOVERNMENT THEY LIE THEY AREN'T TRYING TO MAKE.
Anti-military, anti-rights, anti-economy, anti-doing anything in congress to fix anything, ANTI-AMERICAN. The DOUCHEBAG PARTY wants you to vote for it.
Racism and employment are apples and oranges, people. Obama has a job and wants t keep it. His demanding that blacks stop crying is not, in my opinion, a racially motivated tactic. He is keeping his job like any educated man would do, with all that he has been taught will work. Education brings the chance for employment, which brings experience, the true value in these trying times. I don't spend a lot of time foraging for graphs to prove one thing over another, but I imagine the averages between education and employment probably mirror each other for both races in question over a lifetime. Add in some affirmative action tax breaks for the barely afloat employers and you can still see that experience is why people are hired, not racist but simple dollar for quality employment. Until the money gets better, the man with the experience will still be hired. How about an article about the days since the best times of employment in the nation versus the "Obamanation" of America? Show us the skew of education and employment between the races at the best of times as well as the worst of times? Please, no ancient history. Then, if there is any proof of racism, at least we will have more than a soundbite that feeds political drama for our "New Leaf" President. Success or failure that he is.
America is still firehosing money it doesn't have into more debt, even if Obamas plan is to "cut spending". The real words are simply slowing down the credit madness. I dread to see what will be cut from the budget while the pandering to the "downtrodden" masses that refuse to educate themselves continues.
As an aside, I wonder why this thread has been collapsed since it holds so few ranting and insulting comments. #1 stated an opinion with decorum and brought out many civil and well stated responses. Nobody can deny the fact that Obama is expecting to rally racially motivated votes with his speeches to the overly unemployed slipper wearing group he seems to be inciting.
Stop complaining about what I've done to you and vote for me because you're black and I'm half-black; close your eyes as I leave our borders open, give in-state tuition and healthcare to foreign criminals, and stop the deportation of some criminals because they are not "criminal enough".... whatever you don't come to the realization the you are all AMERICANS and I am pitting you against one another while I import a new voting base... now how about those evil rich people!!!...
In the 2008 election, Blacks voted for Obama at a 96% rate.
Blacks would be stupid if they did not ask the president what administration policies are being directed at the extremely high unemployment rate in the Black community?
Blacks just as other voting blocks - when they vote for elected officials - look for political policies that will positively impact their community.
Obama is one of the worst presidents this country has ever seen. He is trying to get elected again by using the black vote, because if you want to say it out loud or not, blacks will vote for him because he is black. It is that simple.
Let me be clear: NO ONE is getting a job without an education. EVERYONE including black, red, white, green and purple Americans are being outsourced and replaced. Obama can sell his line of "stand with me and fight" till the cows come home but seriously, what are you fighting against? The BEST thing you can do is work hard, put in long hours and improve your education right now and hang on. Show the place of business that you work that you are worth keeping. You have to come in early and work late. THEN you have to invest the little money you do make. Don't buy the expensive car, don't worry about appearances. INVEST!
Do you know who just bought the Pennsylvania turnpike? Do you know who owns the majority of Citigroup? Do you know who holds a vast majority of American Debt? DId you guess the middle east and CHina??????
No, he's right! Look at what happened in NYC over the weekend...mainly white youth got out and marched and protested. Black folks are busy killing each other....I remember a time when blacks would march and protest, now it's the white kid that's doing it.
Obama said the package of payroll tax cuts, business tax breaks and infrastructure spending will benefit 100,000 black-owned businesses and 20 million African-American workers.
Does he pull these numbers out of his ass? Why would anyone believe any thing that he says.
There is a comment that black people are not stupid, and I agree. I'm white and there were a lot of stupid whites that voted for that moron as well believing his lies. I encourage all, whites and blacks alike to fight--TO GET THAT BLATANT IDIOT OUT OF OUR MISERY.
& sounds like you certainly will not vote for him simply because he is black, that makes you so much better, you genuis!
Just because you criticize 96% of blacks for voting for Obama because they are black doesn't mean that you are racist. By contrast, I firmly believe that the 96% of blacks are the racists because a high percentage of them voted for Obama soley because of race. You can think Obama is a crappy president with crappy socialist policies and your opinion has nothing to do with his race. I could EASILY vote for Herman Cain for president because I agree with his policies and the direction he would take this country. I have absolutely no problem with his color. What I do have a problem with is black leaders who take the black vote for granted and use the black people as pawns for their own power trips (see also Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton et al).
If black people would quit listening to their so called leaders and read they would realize that the republicans were against slavery and fought to free the slaves while southern democrats pushed to keep slavery. It was the democrats who fought segregation and were the pillars of the KKK and other anti-black organizations. Democrats embrace them now not because they really care, but because they need their votes....
At some point blacks will figure out that it benefits the Democratic Party to keep them as second class citizens, fighting against "the man". Instead of owning their own future and destiny, they're still sharecropping for the liberal elite. At some point blacks will wake up and realize that it behooves the Dems to keep them poor and fighting against the straw man the Dems have built up. On that day, blacks will finally be free.
So now BO fancies himself as a modern day Martin Luther King. Let me assure you Mr. Obama, you are no Martin Luther King. Try sticking with being the second coming of Jimmy Carter.
It's a shame, Obama has done more to divide the people in this country than any other president in history. I am sick and tired of the friggen race card, black, white or Hispanic it doesn't matter everyone is effected by unemployment
No matter the color your skin is I believe all of America is seeing the truth about Obama. There isn't any.
I can't say vote Republican, but I will say don't vote Obama. I have to listen to all of the candidates. I wish Cain was more in the public eye. He is truly worth listening to.
Bruce, you forgot to mention that it was Johnson and the Democrats that blocked every piece of civil rights legislation Eisenhower and the Republicans proposed in the '50s (there was a reason Martin Luther King was Republican)...it was the Dems who enacted Jim Crow laws...it was the Democrats that sent their black sons to die in Vietnam in grossly disproportionate numbers. Yet as soon as the Dems said "Give us your vote and we'll give you free government checks", blacks forgot all about that history and threw their support with the Dems. And yes, that was PRE "Southern Strategy". If blacks had stood with the party that had strongly advanced their civil rights for the decades preceding, instead of the party with an extremely dubious civil rights record but who was handing out cheese, then there would have been no "Southern Strategy".
The problem is, those checks are now chains...and have been for decades. They are the chains tied to the black nuclear family ripping it apart. They are the chains that bind their economic prosperity keeping that prosperity from breaking free. They are the chains that weigh down and sink black educational motivation and achievement. But yet, there's the Dems, yanking those chains over and over to get blacks to do their bidding. It's sad.
Debora, did you see Cain lapped the field in the Florida straw poll? It's very encouraging! I agree that he's not seen as a front runner, but keep the hope. I think he'll stick around at least until the South Carolina primary and see where he's at then. I expect him to do well in SC.
Kallie "The BEST thing you can do is work hard, put in long hours and improve your education right now and hang on. Show the place of business that you work that you are worth keeping. You have to come in early and work late. THEN you have to invest the little money you do make. Don't buy the expensive car, don't worry about appearances. INVEST!"
Very sound advice. What is the key to success? Two very simple things;
1 - Develop a strong work ethic.
2 - Get a good education.
Notice I listed a strong work ethic first. Someone with a good work ethic will almost always prosper, while those with a good education but poor work habits will usually do poorly.
If you have both a good work ethic and a good education, you will create your own opportunities and do very well in life. If you depend on the government for support, you will spend your life near the poverty level and have a lousy, unfulfilled life of misery.
Too many people think they can live 'the American Dream' by depending on the government for support - they are sadly mistaken.
Mike in SA "Debora, did you see Cain lapped the field in the Florida straw poll? It's very encouraging!"
Cain is a very 'common sense' candidate with some interesting ideas, like his 9-9-9 Plan. Unfortunately, he will never get the 'poor' vote because it would require that poor people actually pay some income taxes - perish the thought.
blacks will vote for him because he is black. It is that simple.
Jo Anne:
In other words Obama is really telling them to shut up and give me your vote.
The sad thing is they will probably obey his order.
It's obvious neither of you is a minority and don't start with the "I have black friends, etc.," - I live in a black neighborhood, get my nails and hair done at black salons and no - blacks are not lining up to vote for Obama this time (try talking to a minority sometime instead of pretending to read their mind). We live in Boehner's district (not voting for him either) - but while the black community was happy that a black man could become President, it doesn't mean they/we will blindly stand by any black man or the current Pres. At the time of election, promises were made, they have not come true in our community and NOBODY is whining, they have jobs but the future was supposed to be better not bleaker. Minorities do not see through rose colored glasses and word on the street is that this vote, they will sit out - none of us know what he is doing, only what he is saying, which doesn't translate on the street. I think what he said to the black caucus was demeaning - he doesn't know the struggle of any family, no matter their color, living paycheck to paycheck and getting less for their money. One thing the black community does know is when someone is pandering to them - this latest remark will be seen as a slap in the face, especially to those of us with jobs who have not seen an improvement in taxes, infrastructure, bank reform, ending the wars, etc... Minorities know they helped him get elected and now they can tell their children that a minority man can be Pres. - they can also tell their children that no Pres., no matter their color, should make promises they don't/can't keep.
Because Ron Paul has more support and experience in government. i really think Obama will win though unless the Republican party gets behind Ron Paul for no other reason than the republicans will loose without Ron Paul's supporters.
Need evidence? Just look at the last election. Most of Ron's supporters did not vote for McCain. The media and the republican party can deny Ron Paul all they want but, they do know that he has the power of the people behind him. If you do not think the people deserve to be in power do not vote for him is all I can tell ya.
Mike in SA "At some point blacks will figure out that it benefits the Democratic Party to keep them as second class citizens, fighting against "the man". Instead of owning their own future and destiny, they're still sharecropping for the liberal elite."
Interesting thought, with some truth to it.
If they were 'wise', they would demand some actions in return for their support, but instead they have put themselves in a position where they are taken for granted, and thus are given nothing in return. If they said "We expect ___________— (fill in the blank) in return for our support, and if we don't get it, we will not support you any more".
It's called 'Power Politics' and is a prized Chicago political tactic.
Black Kettle & Sand Creek...lest we forget "Minorities know they helped him get elected and now they can tell their children that a minority man can be Pres. - they can also tell their children that no Pres., no matter their color, should make promises they don't/can't keep."
Great comment. My experience is that Black people have a lot of common sense (my wife, who is Black, likes to say "you're very smart, but you have no common sense"- maybe she's right, but I won't admit it), and it's pretty hard to fool them more than once.
PS - The massacre at Sand Creek will forever be a stain on our nation.
Why is this a Black problem? For the majority of posters above, if you voted for Bush - then I understand your comments. For those of you who are White and voted for Obama - why are you now accusing the Black community of being stupid sheep? Are you so elitist that you think only white eyes can properly vote for the best candidate? Black communities have problems, so do White and Hispanic ones - so I'll reiterate, the Black community is NOT happy with Obama and will not vote for him again "just because he is black." That was part of the community's support for him but the larger part was a better future for minority children and communities.... a better future that we have NOT seen. The battle of all President's being white is over, a minority was elected - by both Blacks and Whites - by some of you on this board. Please stop commenting that the Black community is stupid and will be duped again, we voted for change - I suppose we got it, just in the wrong direction...and it has been duly noted.
Obama addresses the audience employing a near endless string of Ebonics to fan the flames of racial discord all but saying the evil white man will reinstate Jim Crow if they don't vote for him. I suppose Obama is telling them that it's better to live in a crumbling country replete with economic chaos as long as a black man is president.
This is racist rhetoric that no one will dare acknowledge for fear of being labeled racist themselves. I wonder if Obama is underestimating the intelligence of the black community by thinking he can so easily convince them to ignore his incompetence? After all, isn't that what he's trying to do by falling back on racial rhetoric?
Kallie Post 2.8 I am glad that you raised the issue of the Penn. turnpike. By doing so you bring to light many more questions as to who is running our country today and the controls on the citizens. The "media" has not reported on this. Who is holding them captive, what has happened to the "Freedom of the Press?"
Yes I know who bought the rights to the Penn turnpike; a 75 year lease. The players were an Australian company, a Spanish company,( did they get the funds with the Euro bailout?), and the gang at "Goldman Sachs'. Remember them? They received 10 Billion in TARP money. It has been reported that they repaid this; what do you call it? A loan? Yes, an interest free loan to be paid back when-ever. Loan me or any person posting here 10B, with no interest, and zero time limit and see what we can do with that massive sum of money. Even if we only manage to achieve a mere 2%? Do the math with an investment in Hedge Funds, with a 10% to 20% return. We could start a lot of companies producing here and employing a bunch of Americans. Or, we could buy a piece of the Penn. turnpike, raise the tolls, and send the shaft again to the American people.
Obama may be concerned about the "Black" vote but I think that is just more show than anything by him. He says "boots." Why boots when he has buses already lined up to carry people to the voting booth? If that does not work he can get more"Black Panthers" to guard the doors of the voting places. What ever happened to the two Black Panthers, who were said to be armed and blocking people from entering to vote? In the press and out. What is going on in NYC as I type this? Is the media reporting on this?
What shut Donnie Trump up? He was on a roll over getting Obama's records opened, from college and other places. Trump, as you may have noticed, is a difficult man to shut-up. He did though and why?
Wet Willy - you stole the words from my mouth - I agree. Again, Black people who speak Ebonics 99.9% of the time DO NOTICE that the POTUS speaks "White English" for official affairs and when talking to Whites and then speaks with the "y'all's" etc. with the Black community - it is NOT appreciated by the black community, we/they know that he is really talking down to us - trying to be "one of us" like he "understands" us - we know he doesn't understand, he's rich, he's the President, he's not supposed to switch colors when he speaks - he is supposed to be dedicated to everyone in the country.
Every person who can speak Ebonics can speak standard English, we do find it pandering that the Pres. chooses to talk our communities as if he was invited to a Black block party. Personally, I as a minority, in a black community find it racist of him - Oprah does the same and I find her racist when she does/did it.
It is not racist to point out that he switches his colors when speaking- it does not make the black community "feel closer" to him, we wonder why he does it, we want to hear him speak the way he would to the Queen of England, after all, isn't it us (all people in the US) that he is supposed to work for?
Let me add - it's SO noticeable to the Black community because not one minority would walk up to the Pres. and say "wassup dawg?" It would be more along the lines of, "very nice to meet you Mr. President." So, his Ebonic speeches are NOT working for the minority communities.
Thank you Gents for letting me know about Cain. We are stationed in Germany and don't have TV hookup yet so I haven't been able to watch much and my husband and I haven't had time lately to sit down on the internet together. He told me he knew about Cain in Florida. I am very encouraged. :)
How many members of the Black community are included in the 'Dream Act', I'd be watching this pretty close since it's going to cost more jobs for the people that he's talking down to.
unbelievable! the white people are screaming insane accusation of president obama being racist. claims are he's given out a multitude of handouts to blacks even though they've nothing different from any other disadvantaged group.
the blacks are up in arms blaming the president for not focusing solely on black issues. yeah, that'll work when he can't even get the gop to go along with policies that benefit everyone. these people are on this post yelling racism now; if he uttered the words 'black agenda' the whole sight would collapse.
There was a time in history when Blacks would take to boycotting, marching, protesting to win rights to work and to vote....I don't see that fight now....I see more white people taking to the streets, like they did in NYC over the weekend. Both people need to join forces again and march & protest and boycott.
Well Jasmine -- Do some research and see what the unemployment rate was on Bush's last day and compare to today; compare the national debt on Bush's last day with the national debt today; compare the annual deficits under Bush and under Obama; compare the number of wars under Bush and under Obama; Gitmo was open under Bush and Obama; the Bush tax cuts, now the Obama tax cuts since he signed the bill extending them, are still in place; healthcare costs more now than on Bush's last day; gasoline costs more now than on Bush's last day. Tough to discover just what Obama has done to have a positive impact.
James the "it's Bush's fault" days have been over for awhile! Obama has taken the black community for granted, and not addressed their (or anyone else's) needs except his own to stay in power! As proven by his refusal to address why over 12,000,000 illegal aliens hold skilled jobs (immigration counters site) while blacks have an unemployment rate that's the highest in our history. Instead of vigorously enforcing the E Verify program, he grants a back door amnesty to garner votes from the hispanic block (65% of illegal aliens are from Mexico). Even the most racist zealot would rather see American Blacks hold those 12,000,000 skilled jobs than foreigners with no loyalty to our country, or respect for our laws!
I do think that no matter who became elected in 2008 (other than Bush because he would continue blundering), they would have had a hard road and so many things to fix - something no human could do in two years (they only have two years before most of their time is dedicated to campaigning). I'll admit I voted for Obama. I had reservations as I didn't see him accomplish anything in Illinois, but I just didn't want Bush. I wanted the wars to end. I wanted the lobbyists to stop controlling our healthcare, etc. I wanted someone who had a PLAN, not a slogan for a plan, but an actual PLAN, someone who would be willing to take the heat to make things right, not someone who needs to live in the shade for fear of getting burned. Could that person fix everything in two years, I would say absolutely not, could they fix some things, yes, could we the people SEE and KNOW the PLAN - yes.... has that happened, no.
Ive read a lot of "hate mail" addressed at our President today, and non was worth commenting on until I read Black Kettle's assessment(not hate mail). You are right, no human could fix in two years the mess we found ourselves in around 2008. But I will further add, for all these intelligent idiots, who assume the damage caused by policies of several Presidents, effects stopped, or could be stopped when Obama took office! To James 1937..., consider I drop a ball from a 30 story building and for one moment that ball is at a height of 20 story. The next moment, will that height be below 20 story or higher than 20 story? Common Sense would tell me less than 20 story because gravity and other natural forces will continue the downward trajectory until the effects of dropping the ball hits the bottom! It seems to me Blacks and Whites in particular wanted Obama to be Superman and Fly up and save the ball from its natural trajectory. Superman is only a Character, America! How did Malcolm say it, "The Chickens will be coming home to roost" No matter who the leader is we should see if their heart appears good. Because "ya'll" nor they or I know exactly what has to be done to save us from our inevitable plight. Me personally I want someone who will work with Love for all, as their motivating force, not big oil tycoons.
To your comment: "Me personally I want someone who will work with Love for all..."
Love for all is definitely not what I hear ever coming from this President.
The person I hope becomes next President is Herman Cain. Since I heard him speak from the first time, he spoke from the heart and as a man with a plan.
It's going to take a big plan to pull this country up.
How many more times are you going to get those fuzzy feel good feelings all inside when he speaks?
Is it wearing off yet?
I think it is.
I think you are tired and want to go back to normal. You are laughing and smiling on the outside while watching him, but are miserable on the inside. Yes, I know.
WE ARE NOT IGNORANT, AND PEOPLE ARE HURTING, LOSING THEIR JOBS AND EVERYTHING THEY HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VOTE THIS MAN OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
never underestimate that the O will find some group of americans to insult and put down..it is how he rolls, too bad he couldn't focus on the real enemy instead of his made up ones..
RW CONServative Bush and cronie Wallstreet WRECKED the Economy. And for almost 3 years Obama trying to help AMERICA and the RW CONS are blocking him EVERY step of the way. UNPATRIOTIC RW CONS say NO to AMERICAN JOBS, NO to tax breaks for the little guys, NO to Social Security, NO to Health Care. GOP wrecked and blocked progress on the economy....so WHY should we blame Obama??? I WILL NEVER TRUST THE RW CONServatives WITH ANYTHING!!!! NOT NATIONAL DEFENSE AND NOT THE ECONOMY EITHER!!!!!!!
You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Obamam has put in 287 new regulations that keep business from growing or new ones from starting. He lies in every speech he gives, and all of the libs eatr it up. He alwys talks about all of his plans the the GOP block. Have you ever seen any specifics? Have any been scored by the CBO? No because they say they need actual fact and figures to score something that Obama doesn't give! Obama has already run up 1 1/2 billion more in deficit in a little over two years, than Bush did in 8. Two of Bush's last years over a billion and a half was run up by a dem controlled congress, and the budget Obama submitted this year called for another 1.7 trillion in deficit spending. Obama doesn't have a clue what he is doing. He never had any experience accapt as a community organizer, and his little over a year in the Senate before he started runneresident. He treats illegals, and Muslims better thanAmericans. He thinks he is some great leader, and he is a fool!
A president is only as strong as his bought congress ALLOWS him to be...It's all about what the top 1 percent wants, no matter WHO THE HELL IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE. Personally, I think the Koch brothers has more influence what goes on in Washington than the president.
So ....no more "complainin" and "whinin"...do "y'all" hear the president...who obviously feels the need to drop his "g's" and give a "y'all" damn fine speakin' presentation to the base.
If a white politician dumbified his or her speech patterns in an obvious attempt to be "patronizin" to a minority group...that politician would be crucified by the media.
But the man doin' the presidentin' deese days gets a pass...as per the norm.
Do you really have to ask, .. .pathetic the prez has to beg for votes, what a joke and he still thinks he's winning.. .even a crack head like charlie knows when to call it quites.. .
love these crackhead analogies when discussing the policies and campaigning efforts of our black president! doesn't sound the least bit racist! yeah, right!!
@ john 2032532 # 4.3...Isn't he preaching to the choir? Exactly who does he think black folks would vote for?
this seems to imply that he has the black voters in his pocket. since you made no claim that the speech turned them against him; what was this comment suppose to mean?
what proof do you have to make such a baseless claim. has it ocurred to you that african americans were as disgusted by the bush policies as everyone else; and would have voted for a character from 'avatar'.
i'm not claiming that no such black voters exists, but would you make the same high percentage claim of those criticizing president obama doing so because he's black? the statement itself sounds hyperbolic and even racist.
since in one of your prior comments, you appeared to nearly wet yourself over the prospects of herman cain becoming an "authentic black president" it seems as though you're wrongfully projecting your voting habits onto others.
Hopefully the day isn't far off that black America tires of this crap and comes to the realization that education is the key to long term success for their children and grandchildren, and that single motherhood is almost a guarantee of continued hardship.
So, are you saying that black Americans are the only ones who deal with single motherhood? Last time I checked, singel motherhood was common in any race (white, black, native, asian, latino). And what does all of this have to do with President Obama anyway? Did we all expect him to change America around in 4 years when it took Idiot Bush 8 years to destroy it? Things will get harder before they get better.
The best that we as a nation can do for the long-term well being of the African American population is to afford them the best educational opportunities that we can, but, Bman42, we are far from doing it.
Did we all expect him to change America around in 4 years when it took Idiot Bush 8 years to destroy it? Things will get harder before they get better.
I guess you can't explain that to slow minded people who don't have the common sense to realize that can't be done in 4 years by ONE man. If things aren't going fast enough, then like he said....stop complaining and PUSH to get something done. Also some people suffer with Dementia as 2001-2008 seems to have left them.
All of this crap has lead me to the point that I say go ahead and vote a Republican back in. You'll regret eating that forbidden fruit. This place will deserve to fail if they let these obstructionist RepubliCONs back in after only 1 term.
well, I don't think bringing up that 73% of African American babies born this year are born to single mothers has anything to do with the presidents statements However, yes, that is a problem. It is sad and I don't quite understand it. I also don't quite understand how being smart in the black community and speaking standard English is considered "acting white" when throughout history in all cultures brown minorities have ONLY SUCCEEDED by educating themselves. Parents must insist their teenagers are in by dark and are hitting the books. Turn off all electronics and make them read and do math!!!! don't be afraid to be the freakin parent.
They consider being educated as "acting white" because the body of knowlege which comprises "education" is the accumulated research, discoveries, inventions (Scientific, legal, literary, philsophical etc) of whites over thousands of years. Or haven't you noticed?
The newest trend in the Black Welfare Community is for the daughter to have a baby, and then her Mother turn's her into Child Protective Services who takes the child away and the Mother than becomes their "Foster Mother" and rakes in that big Check every month.....And guess who thought this one up? Your non-Caucasian Social Workers at CPS!
paul - I live in NJ and the vast majority of our failing schools are located in predominately black districts. BUT THOSE DISTRICTS GET THE BULK OF THE STATE'S EDUCATION DOLLARS. We are spending roughly $23,000 per pupil in predominately black schools versus $17,000 per pupil in our RICHEST and MOST SUCCESSFUL school districts.
The biggest reason why those schools are failing is that the majority of the black kids in those districts come from families who don't give a rat's a$$ about education. These are mostly dysfunctional families with a high degree of substance abuse, incarceration, and many of them headed by extremely young single mothers who dropped out of school. The parents of kids who DO care about education in those districts do everything they can to get their kids out of schools with such a dismal learning environment. There's just no way that schools can be expected to be a substitute for so many failing families. It's not going to happen.
Hopefully the day isn't far off that black America tires of this crap and comes to the realization that education is the key to long term success for their children and grandchildren
Hopefully, they'll also realize that the current push to dismantle public education and corporatize it as "charter schools" is the GOP plan to ensure that children grow up to be well-trained drones, rather than educated citizens.
When are people going to realize it's not the governments problem, but their own. I grew up in a slum, joined the army to get education benifits and then worked a full time job while going to college. My mom set the example by working 3 jobs while supporting 4 children after my dad left and she ended up with a doctorate. We were taught that education was the path out of poverty and nobody was going to hand it to you. You had to work harder than the silver spoon folk.
That hasn't changed. I have a Vietnamese friend that came here with nothing, worked at any job he could till he could afford to buy a small store. He still owns that small store and works 16 hours a day but his children are all going to top of the line colleges.
People have two choices. They can sit around and wait for the government promises. Or they can get of their arses and do what they have to in order to improve themselves. When they Irish first came to America they were considered as inferior as the slaves. They scrapped and fought till they ended up the 2nd most prosperous group in America. No habdouts, just hard work.
tiger 3114161 - Except that a lot of those discoveries and developments didn't come out of Europe or the US. If you look at the history of mathematics, engineering, law, etc. you'll find that human genius has sprung up in all parts of the world, so long as there were sufficient resources in society for men and women of talent and intelligence to be able to devote their time to pursuits higher than scrounging for their next meal. While Europe sat mired in the dark ages, the rest of the world kept humming right along, particularly in the middle east, where the made discoveries in the fields of physics, astronomy and math that the Europeans wouldn't catch up to for centuries. You'll find that many of these developments came from people with skin a good bit darker than your comment would suggest.
Grillcheese, I agree with you!! They keep throwing more money into those "failing" schools.....then someone says they need MORE money. This has not worked. Why do the samething over and over & expect different results? It isn't the schools failing it is the families due to the culture. How do you change a culture? How do you make people care about education?? I think they are given plenty of opportunity......even to the point of preferental treatment. They just don't take advantage of it
Hopefully the day isn't far off that black America tires of this crap and comes to the realization that education is the key to long term success for their children and grandchildren, and that single motherhood is almost a guarantee of continued hardship.
To whom posted the above and all the other comments about Black single mothers being a "drain," check your stats, more welfare money goes to rural whites than to Blacks - and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand! All it shows is general racism, which will get this country nowhere!
Maxwello: Yes there was a period of Arab learning and some Chinese. But in sum total the ratio of learning, discoveries and inventions which utterly shape your life is overwhelmingly from the sources I mentioned. The most significant feature of Chinese civilization was that it was unchanging over thousands of years. Africa was not progressing at all. The unique feature of European society was it's dynamism. Even superficial things like dress reflect that. If you saw Chinese people from a given century you would be hard put to tell which one it was. Same with Africa. But dress radically changed in the west with the centuries (creating an entire field in costuming in Hollywood for period films). Time always seemed to move on in the west. It was not static as it was in other parts of the world.
Kallie - next time, get your facts straight and don't exclude what you don't like. I realize you relied on an MSNBC article but the last census for unmarried births was in 2008.
Another notable change during this period was the rise in births to unmarried women. In 2008, a record 41% of births in the United States were to unmarried women, up from 28% in 1990. The share of births that are non-marital is highest for black women (72%), followed by Hispanics (53%), whites (29%) and Asians (17%), but the increase over the past two decades has been greatest for whites -- the share rose 69%.
Or go straight to the census...which shows that the numbers are pretty equal for all races - the percentages will be different but that is just making stats work for you....Black and Hispanic women have more babies but White women (as a total) have as many babies without fathers
How do you change a culture? How do you make people care about education?? I think they are given plenty of opportunity......even to the point of preferental treatment. They just don't take advantage of it
Now are you going to say that it's the Black kids fault that SAT scores are at their worst?
Go volunteer for a week at a poor inner-city school. I did, in my community. The children were NOT the problem, the parent/s were NOT the problem - the teachers were. They didn't want to work in the community, screamed at the children, no child was allowed to bring a book home to study because the school didn't have enough books for the children - they had to share in class and the teachers were NOT VERY BRIGHT. If your school district has poor families - the school has no money - it's NOT redistributed here (SW, OH) like the guy from NJ said. I tutored 7th and 8th grade math, the children weren't stupid, they thought they were, it's what the teachers told them, but a little positive reinforcement went a long way and they were not behind in math at all - and if you think that all Black parents or single mothers don't care about about their child's education, you are horribly mistaken. The problem is no one will listen to the complaints of the inner-city parents and they can't afford to move to a better district or pay $20,000 a year for private school!
flbikerchick..(#5.10)...That statement is ridiculous.
Caring Parents (especially in minority neighborhoods) line up for blocks and wait for hours just to get inside the schools auditorium to get a number for the lottery in the hope of being picked for one of the coveted slots for any charter school....Why did it take the Republicans to force the DC School District to continue with their Charter Schools......Cause the Dems are beholden to the Teachers Unions that Vehemently oppose the Charter Schools....because they beat public school hands down.
Mike in Delray, if you were honest about it you would admit that the reason the numbers for Charter schools are higher is because they can choose their students. They don't have to take every student in the area. They don't have to take students with learning disabilities. They can demand things from the parents and if the parents don't do them they can kick the students out.
Charter schools mostly separate out the students who's parents are motivated to push their kids to be succeed in school and thereby lower the scores of the public schools even more because the best students are taken out of the mix.
how is it the it the fault of the teachers if there are not enough books for the children to take home? there may be teachers that are on edge because they are upset about the poor conditions they're forced to work under. admittedly, these schools do not draw the cream of the crop teachers, however, it's inconceivable that it's only the teachers to blame for the terrible learning conditions.
many of the children (not all, of course) come from troubled households where parents show little or no interest in their children's education. some of the kids are disciplinary problems and the teachers sometimes get no support from the parents. there are teachers who pay out of their own pockets to have just minimal school supplies.
i have a relative who has a masters degree in teaching so i know the above to be true. placing blame on teachers is just a right wing way of disrupting the present system and moving it toward privatization. privatization is the gop's answer to everything because, as we are all aware, no one is inept or corrupt in the private sector.
Charter schools mostly separate out the students who's parents are motivated to push their kids to be succeed in school and thereby lower the scores of the public schools even more because the best students are taken out of the mix.
so tell us why parents/students should have their choices limited..just because the best students are taken out of the mix...so some of the best students should be made to attend a lesser quality school just because ?---that makes no sense and a parent whose choice is limited like that has every right to be livid..
charter schools are also not beholden to the destructive teachers unions that protect bad teachers and lay off the good ones based simply on seniority..they can easily get rid of teachers that are sub par....
which students should be forced to attend the public school with a bad teacher--your child, my child, every ones child ?--how do we tell that parent and child, so sorry but that 2d grade you were in taught you nothing, it was a wasted yr....
you may want to look at how new orleans is rebuilding school system with charter schools after katrina because the public system was no more..most parents say it is far better than what they had before and it's not just for the rich kids either..
all of these insane ranting against president obama not cleaning up this economic mess in less than two years shows just how out of touch these people are.
they want to ignore the fact that he has had to fight practically to the death for everything passed or attempted to pass which has impeded progress.
what they don't realize is this country has been on a downhill slide for many years (pre obama and even bush) due to a monster called globalization which is mostly at fault for this economic disaster. when the gop talks about american businesses needing to be able to compete in the global market, what they really mean is "we need to bust unions in order guarantee low wages for all americans, lower taxes for corporations to fatten their bankrolls even more, and , of course, remove regulations so businesses can pollute air, land and sea without consquences".
i'm with you. i just can't wait to see these obama haters get what's coming to them when these lying lipped republicans get back in power.
Parental involvement is one of the biggest factors in student achievement. A parent that puts their child in a charter school is obviously more involved than the average parent.
My point is that it's not resonable or fair to compare the scores of public schools with the scores of charter schools when the charter school don't have to take everyone and the public schools do.
They should come up with their single-mother percentages based on income levels, rather than based on race.
If a woman chooses to have a baby and raise that baby as a single parent...that's her choice and her dime.
However, if a woman...or in many cases, a teenage girl...choose to have a baby and then hold her hand out for everyone else to pay the tab for raising that baby, that's a problem. Multiply that by tens of thousands and it becomes a major problem...just like it is today.
All you have to do is read the news about what is going on inside the nearest city, to see how things have worked out.
This is hilarious! Obama "cranking" up grassroots. I suppose there isn't much difference between crank and crack. Either way, the author apparently nailed it head on.
amusing how misguided ones on this post accuse the president of being racist; but the accusation of racism is never applied to those that post trash as in #7.
why is it that the president can address the hispanic community about helping them with their jobless plight; but if he does the same for african americans whose jobless numbers are even higher, he's pegged as playing the race card?
another question is, if african americans voted for the president solely because he was black; why are americans not moving toward herman cain in droves? forget about his agenda, he's still a black man. right?
When Obama acts what way? When he goes to an audience, among a group who plainly have huge economic problems, and tells them to get their own act together and stop complaining?
Because of the incessant double standard in this country when it comes to race. As was stated in the article:
"If Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House," the caucus chairman, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, recently told McClatchy Newspapers.
If some races are held to account for their racist rhetoric, then ALL races should be held to the same standard.
John -- Not "complaining" but "complainin'". From a man with a Harvard education talking to folks to fight and get ahead. He is pandering, plain and simple.
Rod - as I've stated before, the problem isn't that he spoke to the Black Caucus, it's that he spoke down to it (using Ebonics) and as a minority, I don't like that, speak to us as if we were the Queen of England or the VP of the US. The fact of the matter is, he has NOT supported our communities in any way - and now wants our help? That is pandering. I live in a black community, people work, own businesses but many aren't making it - and it's not for lack of trying or lack of education (higher education). The promises he made before he got elected are not coming true, as a matter of fact, there has been little to NO interest in the Black community whatsoever UNLESS it's for votes....I live in one, we know the drill now and are not going to be used again. There is pride that a minority was elected to the highest office - that pride should be shared by all races - it is not a "Black only" victory, but a victory for the country, however, the country should not be divided by the President along racial lines - how exactly have Black communities "complained?" Will he say the same thing to a White community that is in economic distress? Living in a Black community during this time is different, we realize that whites and Hispanics, everyone, except the very rich, is having a difficult time. We all want a piece of the pie and are working for it and working together more than ever (across racial lines) - the Black community is not blaming whites for keeping them down, etc...the country is NOT supposed to be divided by racial lines - so telling our communities to fight?! Who are we supposed to fight? Kick out the white businesses that employ our youth? We want schools that have teachers that can add 2 + 2, we want roads that don't break our axles, we want the same as any white community, police to keep crime away AND respect us, not officers that hate the community and don't do their job. This is not a Black vs. White debate for office - and if someone makes it that way, there really is no hope for the future for any race living in the US.
""It gets folks discouraged. I know. I listen to some of y'all," Obama told an audience of some 3,000 in a darkened Washington convention center."
Need to talk with your speech writer. Your not a southerner . Y'all = you all.
Why pretend?? We want JOBS , not speeches.
How?
Redo the trade agreements.
Arrest anyone knowingly employing a illegal. Or legalize them, and have them pay taxes. Currently, they have the best of two worlds. Under the table employment, no SS or medicare deductions, kids educated , and medicaid. The average legal working poor American does NOT have these advantages.
The illegal impact on roofing, carpentry, and lawn care alone , has hit the black community hard. For these were the jobs, to pay for that education, to strive further.
Result equals more money for Social Security and Medicare.
In his campaign for the House in 2010, Boehner was screaming "Mr. President, where are the jobs?" Shouldn't that mean that jobs was his highest priority? Turns out, it is not a priority. Cutting taxes for the sake of cutting taxes is.
Obama's idea of creating jobs through legislation means government jobs which do not help the economy very well because it just adds to the tax burden. That is, the salaries are paid for by you, at tax time. It is the private sector which creates jobs which creates prosperity but to do that the pres must (like Reagan) cut taxes on the middlle class and upper levels since these are the people who open businesses.
Every bill put forth by the House? Shot down by the Senate. Democrats forward a bill? Shot down by Republicans. Each a party of "NO". Each shooting down the other simply because it wasn't their Idea. Obama compromises with the Republicans and some Blue Dog Democrats and then screams of "Off with his head" appear. No one wants the other to be right. Every one wants the other to be wrong. Every one wants to see failure, so they can point fingers and say "See? I told you so!" Absolutely impossible public. I have NEVER seen the divisiveness like I see today, and yet, when one party is in complete control THAT party goes too far. We have not learned.
I'm glad someone else notices this problem, blame whatever president but congress is the problem it pisses me off to no end, if one party has a good idea the other will fight it tooth and nail, just because it's not their party. This is why I'm right in the middle, Independent. Each party has there buddies in the oil and big corps. Vote for the ones who are campaigning with there own money, mostly Independents, let the crooks in office now feel what it's like to be unemployed. I've seen pictures of some of these people, they look like their 100 years old. I think a couple of them signed the Declaration.
Let's be clear. Is President Obama saying black voters should support him because of his track record? Or is he saying they should support him because he is black?
Let's be clear. Is President Obama saying black voters should support him because of his track record? Or is he saying they should support him because he is black?
Cause he is black.....why?
The god king is not being held to account for his record within the black community and until he is called out by the black community and they hold him publicly accountable and until the black community begins to demand answers, the god king will still walk on water and take the black vote for granted....
He's saying that they should stop complaining and pull themselves up and get moving on their own and not wait for 'government' to do it for them. This is exactly the same message he gave them in 2008 campaign.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the message of working to get yourself ahead, but the hypocrisy is that this is not what Obama wants. The more your populace becomes accustomed to being given what they need, the more complacent they become. Sure, the message is good. You SHOULD work hard to get anywhere. Instead, the Democrats want to give everyone an even foot hold whether they have or haven't earned it. Where is the incentive to succeed when you have our Government fighting to take more of what you've earned so that those who have to be told to stop complaining and do something to earn your place can get more?
Now before everyone gets their knickers in a wad, I believe that those that have succeeded should help out those less fortunate. I believe that the so called "rich" in this society have been coddled too much, and they need to kick in a little more. However, this rally cry from both sides of the fence that the high income earners are the key to answering every problem this country has is a fallacy. The real cause of the problems of this country are the same ones we elected to fix the issue. The only jobs that any politician cares about is the one they currently hold. This notion that your representative works for you is a comedy funnier than the Roast of Charlie Sheen.
So yes America. Get on your protest shoes and tell everyone in Washington that you're tired of this partisan BS, and I hope that you're ready to feel the brunt of the blowback Mr. President. I firmly believe that you'll get your second term. Not because you've done anything to deserve it, but simply because there isn't anyone to run against you that isn't a crazy, despotic right wing nutbag...in my humble (usual Republican voting) opinion. So Mr. President, when your next four years are about as worthless as your first four, I hope you reap what you now sow.
You know I just ignore most idiots... I have made it a game and with more and more idiots out there you can waste a lot of time playing it. Let me set the record straight, Americans don't hate rich people. Americans hate rich people who steal, exploit the environment, exploit the lie of race (black, white, red, green) , exploit the stupid / ignorant, and turn right around and tell us we have the problem because we don't work hard enough! You have heard the saying: search for the truth, for when you find it, it will surely set you free. The truth has a veil placed over it which makes it almost impossible to see. It allows a lie to traverse the globe twice before the truth has the time to lace up its shoes for a morning walk. It allows the weak and ignorant to be enslaved to those who have no vision for the future. It only allows those who chase after its twisted truth to be in lock step with failed policies and more let downs. I could go on ... but why waste more time? All you guys left, right, and center need to search for the truth. You don't have much time!
Having grown up in Detroit, I am tired of people self-segregating themselves. People are people, plain and simple. If you were born here or legally immigrated to this country, then you are an American.
Personally, I don't care what you look like, if you have 4 eyes, have tentacles, or if your teeth are crooked. What I do care about is results. I am tired of filling out Race on applications for things, I want things to be based just on merit and what I can do. If you do the job, follow through, and get things done, that is what counts. It doesn't matter if you did it in a designer suit or did it with second hand clothes from goodwill, as long as you make an effort, can do the job or are willing to educate yourself to do the job, then that is all that is necessary.
If I had a choice between voting for Obama and voting for Mr. Cain, I would choose Mr. Cain. Not because of his race, but because of Mr. Cain's record in turning around companies and using common sense.
I agree that ANY of the Republicans will be a better choice than Obama (even though that's not saying much). But I wouldn't put too much emphasis on Cain's successes in the business world. Depending on the makeup of the 2012 Congress, the next president may find himself just as much a captive to gridlock as the current one is. I'm pretty sure Cain never had to get permission from 535 other people to do any of the things he did in the real world.
Herman Cain says "Stupid people are ruining this country"
I don't know anything about his religious perspective, but I like him so far. If he keeps religious views out of the picture I will like him even more.
Stop being such a Liberal race-hating fascist, JRS. People have greater identities than just "human". How hateful of you to marginalize a people's racial and ethnic identity. I am not just "homo sapien", I am White. And proud of it.
That's hilarious. To be judged based on just a comment.
For some reason, somehow some people think that calling people Americans are just calling them Human. There is a big difference. That is disorganized thinking. All Americans are Humans, yes, true. But, not all Humans are American.
For the record: I am Caucasian. Of Polish-German ancestry. I am an educated scientist who questions things, votes Republican, and lived and worked in downtown Detroit for 6 years after spending my life in Michigan near Detroit. Sure, I love my Polish ancestry, know Polish Christmas carols, celebrate many Polish German traditions but I first define myself as an American. I don't insist everyone accept my ancestry and start learning Polish.
I served as an Officer in the Armed Forces of the United States and as the Articles of the Code of Conduct state "I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense."
Any of the soldiers or sailors under my command were Americans first. They put on that uniform and became a sailor in dress blues or a soldier in BDUs. It did not matter if they were white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, or if they had some ethnic traditions that they carried out with family at Christmas or other holidays specific to their cultural or religious beliefs. They wore the uniform and they were what that uniform represented, someone who volunteered to put their life on the line in the US Military so that you could post comments on a message board and call people names. What did matter is that they performed, did their job, and made sure they pulled their share of the load so that together, we could get the job done and do what we had to do to bring everyone back safely.
What you don't seem to understand is that with an extensive cultural education, traveling the world meeting other cultures, having the diversity on your ship or within your own unit, people bring their own strengths to the table and diversity does make you strong for you can call on things you lack in your own background and learn new things for how people do things in their part of the world. However, the more people you meet in the world, the more you realize that people are the same. Culturally they are different and the United States offers us freedoms not found elsewhere in the world. However, as Americans, we offer freedom to the world, no matter what the skin color of the American. By considering people Americans first based on merit, that does not marginalize anyone. Frankly, if I need a doctor, I want the best doctor I can find regardless of the skin color. I want the doctor to be a good doctor based on the merits of how well that doctor knows his or her medicine. I don't want a doctor that was given a pass because of race but a doctor that earned the MD degree based on the merits of how much effort they put into developing himself or herself.
Mr. Pawel: You never should assume anything. You know what that does. Instead, I am sure that one of the USMC Drill Instructors would be more than happy to take you under his wing and teach you what it means to be an American and wear a uniform.
I will close with this which was on the wall where I worked...
VERY well said,JRS..The military is the one percent of the American population where all of us would watch each other's back and work together, regardless of ethnic background,or skin color....Maybe a short term in the military by the other 99% would open thier eyes to what other people have to offer.......and my favorite sign that hung over the CO's door was;"Lead, follow,or get the hell out of the way."..That sign could be addressed to ALL of Washington..............U.S.Army Disabled Veteran
JRS - I am of Lithuanian descent - my grandfather came to this country to escape for a better life and was self taught - raised 10 children - strike that one died as an infant pneumonia - however gave one son to the Bataan Death March - the other was on the PT Boats - and he came back mean as hell - my grandfather told me when I was five years of age never vote for a Republican - they will steal your lunch - however my grandmother told me the same thing about the Poles - sorry Polish guy my husband's mother was Polish - discount that - I believe my grandfather!
JRS: Totally short-term and confused"insights". The civilization you enjoy and everything in it was not created by people in general. Everything you touch, use, see, hear and think will find its source going back to developments created by specific gene pools centered in Europe and their descendents here. Whether we speak of the Golden Age of Greece which created the basis of modern learning, the Romans, The Age of Enlightenment, Age of Discovery, The Renassiance, The Age oof Exploration, The Growth of the scientific method re: biological sciences and botany, astro-physicis etc. The Machine Age and the Industrial Revolution, The Automoble Age, Aviation and the Jet Age, the Space Age, the Computer and micro-chip Age, The revolution of the Transistor (the nobel prize winner who invented it spoke openly of racial differences re: IQ on average as did forty years later the Nobel prize winner who discovered DNA.
Even a cursory view of history demonstrates that race matters very much indeed. If you notice the goal of every race if given the opportunity will head for a western European country or America (i.e. a White country). Ignoring where all the progress and devleopment has come from throughout the ages sends a dangerous message that gene pools are irrelevant. Really? Would like to move to Uganda? And even there, you find cities, cars and phones imported from white countries. Your type of wilful ignorance has put all of western countries in jepoardy which are being flooded by non-progressing people. It might make you feel good about yourself uttering these PC'isms but it is historical nonsense and leads young people into thinking miscengenation will have no consequences when if followed on a large scale would be disasterous for the continuance of western civilization. You're obviously not a bad guy, you repeat the standard PC line but it is far more consequential and dangerous than you seem to realize.
I too spent time in the military and, as an enlisted person, I can confirm what JRS said. There was no race in the military. We acted as a unit. A team. We did not see race.
I also agree with JRS that race should never play a part in any application for a job. The Government makes it illegal to hire based on Race, Religion, Sex. Yet the government hires based on Race. It is the truth.
I was Army Special Forces and definitely wouldn't be sittting here today had anyone on the team thought they were anything else exept GREEN---and they would have been double-bummed because I was the RTO and if I got greased they would have had to distribute a lot of extra gear to everyone else. The only guy who carried more sh*t than I did was packing the M60, LOL.
Personally, I wish the GOP would get its' act together and stop pandering to the Koch brothers and Grover Norquist. I would be functioning off a very different mindset if Cain and Huntsman were the front-runners. Romney's faux-populist stances makes me itchy. I'm not voting for Perry the Secessionist nor Batsh*t-crazy Bachmann---no frickin' way.
Wasn't the farmer (everyday people) who freed us from the British? in those eairly days of our country we didn't have a military the individual person made the choice to fight in raids. our military was born. our military protects our states from attack.
I have two sons that are Marines one is in Afghanistan for his 2nd tour and the other is in Arizona. one memory i have is graduation day it was awsome. If your a parent of a Marine or a Marine you know what I'm talking about. I went to Paris Island to see both my son's graduate - If your a parent of a soon to be Marine get down there there are no words to describe it....
When Herman Cain veered away from "culture war nonsense" and started talking about creating jobs and getting the country's economic house in order, he grew on me too...by leaps and bounds.
Americans have bigger fish to fry than fightitng over who's a Muslim, or who's gay---I say, the gays and the Muslims should have the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" just like every other American.
Here's a guy who rose to CEO of a fairly large corporation. He knows what it is to work, and even to be something other than rich. I think he actually has the business acumen that folks attributed to George W. Bush (but that Bush, despite his MBA, actually didn't have IMO).
I think Herman Cain would be an excellent President. If, by some chance, he actually got the GOP nomnation I'd vote for him in a heartbeat! I would very seriously consider him as VP for Paul, Romney or Huntsman as well.
I do not like Obama as President. I think that he has done a disgraceful job thus far. However, I can rest assured that he is a one time wonder. We black folks really need to stop complaining, get a good education, get a job and vote Republican
Most if not all of those "black" people posting above are paid right-wing trolls.
Go ahead google it - "paid right-wing trolls" and see what you get! They must spend a ton of money to troll all these news stories. Check-out the global warming story on today's front page too. Unbelievable numbers of lying liars.
Ahh! But it'll all be worth it when the GOP gains control over all branches of govt. and can "save" social security and medicare by 'privatizing it! LOL Then they'll save the environment by eliminating the EPA, and save the educational system by eliminating the dept. of education. And all the while continue to be "creatin' jobs" by lowering taxes more and more.
Are you kidding, you must be the dumbest cracker that has hatched!! You think people are fooled into thinking that you are black? OMG, this is why we are made to feel the way we do, you think you can feed blacks anything, you f*ckin race hater, why are you hidding!!! People like you anger me beyond words !
I cannot sit here and honestly say that there are not paid trolls here wearing a disguise. Truth. What I CAN honestly say is that there ARE Black Republicans.
msnbc911 Are you kidding, you must be the dumbest cracker that has hatched!! You think people are fooled into thinking that you are black? OMG, this is why we are made to feel the way we do, you think you can feed blacks anything, you f*ckin race hater, why are you hidding!!! People like you anger me beyond words !
Makes you want to hurt him, bad?
"Peole like you, or you people"? Who's the racist, again?
and the blacks voted for obama cause he was gonna pay their mortagage and gas bill if they "helped him" in 2008---now it's quit complaining...LOL.. guess he didn't come thru for them either...come to think of it, he hasn't done a hell of alot for anyone..
Totally disagree. First of all, he never said anything about paying peoples' mortgages and gas bill in 2008. I specifically remember hearing him tell a black audience that they needed to get involved, take responsibility, get good educations, and help make their own future. The message was the same then as now. Just a lot of people didn't hear it or didn't want to.
Obama never said anything remotely resembling that which I see posted here about the government paying the bills for any race. In fact, he has said the opposite. It was the black public who had these expectations. Now that they have seen Obama as he is they're going to turn on him at some point. But as this article plainly states the black people have not yet marched on Washington only because he is black. If he were white they would not have given the leeway he enjoys now. If that is not racist, then I truly do not know what is.
'Redistribution of wealth' - Obama's belief in this is why many uneducated blacks felt that this would mean more money in their pockets, paying their 'mortgages', gas bills, etc.
Obama's legislation has shown that this is what he's been trying to do.
Show me a black person who really thought that Obama was gonna pay their mortgage and gas bills for them with government funds---and I'd advise you to take pictures because you'd have something on a par with proof that Bigfoot, aliens and the Loch Ness monster actually exist.
The runaway vast majority of everyday folks in the 'hood knew that simply putting a black man in the White House wasn't going to miraculously change their lives for the better in a week or whatever. In fact, most learned that lesson when the first blacks were elected mayors of major cities---their personal inner circles benefitted, but that was it.
A black President would be no different---and has been. Nothing new here.
To those whites who thnk black people are racists for voting for Obama in such large numbers, something to think about: Blacks vote overwhelmingly Democrat, and have done so for nearly half a century (Which, btw, THIS black man sees as a major strategic problem). Black voters turned out in similarly high percentages for Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton and Kerry, before Obama.
By what leap of illogic are all these diehard Democrats who've been voting for white candidates suddenly racists...?
Show me a black person who really thought that Obama was gonna pay their mortgage and gas bills for them with government funds---and I'd advise you to take pictures because you'd have something on a par with proof that Bigfoot, aliens and the Loch Ness monster actually exist.
funny isn't it--hey, I just spotted bigfoot...but i'd rather have gas in my car and my mortgage paid for...and to think all I'd have to do is "help him"..LOL
Stay away from Bigfoot, btw! I hear he smells terrible, and what if he's some kind of carnivore? You could find youself being doused in hot sauce and rolled up in a large piece of ppita breaad or something.
I have to call you on the carpet for that last phrase. As it pertains to race, Republicans have done more for Blacks than any Democrat can or will ever do. They inspire an attitude of independence, self reliance and patriotism. As a Republican, I'm not looking for the govt to give me anything; I'm a positively contributing member to society.
Vets and soldiers inspire the things you mention, not Republicans.
Republicans to me inspire an attitude of sanctimonious ignorance, petty politics, race hatred, and hypocrisy. As an independent I also am not looking for the govt to give me anything, and I don't know any Dems who feel any differently.
You need to get out more and meet some of the people whom you mischaracterize.
John, how can you say "mischaracterize" when this very story shows the plain, unabashed, and unapologetic racism publicly displayed by the black leaders of our society? All of these black leaders are Democrats. Obama tells the blacks to stop crying and actually try to improve themselves. The black leaders (Democrats) are having none of it.
If the republicans are all so racist than why was there a class-action lawsuit filed by black people against the democratic party for racist actions? Go back through the history books and you'll see who the racists were. Unfortunately nothing's changed. The liberal D-bags are trying to re-write history to demonize the "right." Look it up.
Please note that many of those so-called black "leaders" don't actualy have much credibility with the average brother in the 'hood----because many of them have been around for decades and the average brother in the 'hood has not received anything from these "leaders'" exertions except a lot of rhetoric.
Listen to who is doing most of the crying here---it's not the guy in the street. He doesn't have time for it, he's too busy trying to survive and thrive. It's the "leaders."
Rest assured, any black person who lives in the city and survives to age 18 (which is a h*ll of a lot of people, men and women) can smell a hustler from miles away...
The racist Margaret Sanger -- the founder of Planned Parenthood -- intentionally put her artificial contraceptive clinics in the African American communities in order to decrease their population. Now after Roe v. Wade in 1973, African Americans are ending the lives of their babies (aborting) at the hightest rate of any ethnicity. Obama supports all this. With a "friend" like Obama, the African American community doesn't need enemies.
Margaret Sanger did serve the poor - typically immigrant women and women of color. (Wow, some things never change, huh.) Mrs. Sanger was so staunchly FOR women's reproductive rights, and rightly so - because the condition of women, especially poor women, was dreadful.
And her personal interest came because - she was a young woman as she watched her own beloved mother DIE in childbirth - for kid #18!!
AngelP...You are spreading disinformation as espoused by the far right. She never met with Hitler. It is the BIG LIE, that you clowns keep repeating. She was a hero then and today for down-trodden women.
Blacks don't segregate themselves any less than whites do. This country has its legacy in segregation that was legally institutionalized and just because its not legal any longer doesn't mean that its affects, ideology and attributes have disappeared.
This is a society that caters to white life. We see it in the media, television, film and all major industries including corporate life. Racism is ingrained in our culture and affects blacks, whites and everyone in between. So your statement about "true racists" is silly.
Blacks would not have had to create their own institutions and groups if american society was inclusive and celebratory from the beginning. the fact that blacks are disportionately affected by unemployment, predatory lending in today's time, just to name a few, is a reflection that blacks still are not being given the same opportunities that whites receive.
You are just one of the many that believe that blacks are the issue and do not see the larger picture of how we all arrived at the current day. Thank god for organizations that cater and look out for blacks because no one else would or even admit there is a need because they argue that "racism doesn't exist".
This is a society that caters to white life. We see it in the media, television, film
Surely you jest! Approximately 40 percent of the actors in TV advertising are black, while only 13 percent of the population is black. What? Your house doesn't look like the one in the breakfast cereal ad?
@fehar: explain yourself? if you are going to say something is bs at least take the time to explain why you disagree. let's have an intelligent discourse.
@replyt0j001: do I agree with Obama? It's not that simple. He and the very position he holds is complex and layered. There are some policies I do like (ie. access to healthcare; corporate oversight, the top 1% of the weathly should pay their fare share in taxes, etc...) And some I do not.
The truth is for me personally I never saw him as a white knight. I didn't think that he was going to come into office and dramatically change the system and infrastructure. Its bigger than one person can fix in 3 years. I never thought it was realistic, since it's the massive system itself that is the problem. I do however, trust him as a leader, something which had been lacking. I believed him to be smart, strategic and capable. And despite the scariness of the present circumstances, I believe he's gotten a lot accomplished (check his record).
I didn't read the entire speech to the black caucus yet, but I do understand the frustrations. In this society, blacks tend to get hit the hardest (ie. citing the black unemplyment rate). Unfortunately, this is not a new phenomenon. As a result, I don't believe this President has turned his back completely. I think he's had a hell of a lot of issues to deal with that he's inherited. I don't believe what's going on is anything that he's directly caused -- and so therefore, there is no way to quantify how he's doing and his affects (yet anyway). He's been playing 'patch up the holes to prevent all the leaks' so to speak.
Although I may not like every single policy, comment, and/or focus of the President, I sitll believe he has the hearts and minds of the people in his thoughts everyday. I do not believe for a second he is removed from that. I will support him based on that fact (and of course his intelligence). But to say this is HIS Economy would be a misnomer. He didn't come in at a surplus and then go fiscally crazy.
Lastly, Anyone coming into office now, its going to take them YEARS to get us out of this hole. NO ONE is going to come in and within 2, 3 or even 4 years time, drastically change the broken system (because that is the problem) and repair the economy especially since they don't rule in autonomy but must have Congressional approval.
@Sherrie: where do you get your stats from?? To your credit, I will say that Black have been given opportunities within predominantly white establishments. And that is also precisely my point.
Please reeducate yourself about American History. Please. Only then can you understand where I'm coming from. I can suggest a reading list. Mainly books I read in college -- from required reading lists.
I am familiar with American history. And it is now just that: History. I have worked at a broad cross-section of American businesses, and I have had several black supervisors. They were not born to privileged families: They earned their positions. It's time to stop blaming history and it's time for each of us to be valued according to our skills, talents, education, and capabilities. I also worked as a caseworker in a large city with a substantial black population. My supervisor there was black, and he and I together concluded that the plight of the black families we served was very much attributable to the culture: multiple children out of wedlock, absent husbands, a lack of emphasis and value on education, a generations-long dependence on welfare, etc. I don't believe that anyone should be given a job because of race; neither do I believe he should be denied that job because of race. To make black people truly be equal, we have to end both of those ways of thinking.
Not given enough opportunities? Blacks signed on for mortgages they were unqualified to payback. The WWII generation of whites never took on debt they could not handle. Affirmative Action mortgages were then bundled together and sold to the European banks as securities (worthless paper) which caused the financial disaster to go global. The roots of this bad financial practice began with Jimmy Carter's "Community Reinvestment Act" and expanded by Clinton which basically turned home ownership into an entitlement for blacks. (It also got the dems more votes from "minorities).
Racial norming is the practice used in the public school system of adding 30, 40 points to black scores to produce academic "equality". Just being black is worth 20 points or more on a college admission application (those on the point system). Colleges have racial quotas which is why unqualified blacks are all over even Ivy league campuses. Standards have been sacrificed to meet these quotas, a practice which strikes at the very heart of an advanced civilization. Policies such as these are used in the private sector too with qualified whites being denied promotion or placement in favor of blacks in order to reach greater "racial diversity". The idea that it is a strength is a left-wing canard. Ancient Rome, the British Empire, Imperial Japan, Germany these were powerful, top-rung countries some of which ruled the world in their time. The one thing they have in common; they were not racially diverse at all. Greece produced geniuses like grapes on a vine (Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Socrate etc etc) and when their country (and gene pool) was over-run, the Golden Age of Greece (which also gave us democracy) was over. In the 3,000 years since they have never again produced people of that caliber again. People are not "made" equal by social programs. They are made to appear equal.
Have you noticed the "required reading" list from your college days are all on the Left ideologically? Perhaps it's time for a re-evaluation of what you were taught and begin to educate yourself to what extent you were lead and propagandized and not exposed to a balanced survey of whatever the subject was.
Sherrie: There is no such thing as History being gone. We are history. The very lives that each of us leads is the very outcome of the past. So to imply it has no relevance is illogical to me.
While I do believe we all should move forward to a post-racial society, where as you put it: no one should be given or denied a job because of their race, we simply aren't there yet. I can qualify this with my own personal experience. Blacks for the most part have to work twice as harder than whites to get an equal share. And while you may have had black supervisors, you do not understand the depths of what they had to go through to get to that point. Discrimination is not an aberation . It's not just a past assault. Racism is ingrained in our culture as much as I wish it wasn't.
Affirmative action was and is needed for a reason. You must understand what that reason was before you can make an accurate assessment of its value or necessity. It is not the result of Black cultural ills. It is the result of societal ills.
Yes, I do believe Blacks must own the outcomes of their lives and must be responsible for their successes. But when you've done all you can, worked twice as hard, and that still isn't good enough, you begin to understand the limitations of our society.
In terms of your talk with your black superviser, the "conclusions" you both have drawn about black culture does not in any way make you an authority on it. The cultural ills or statistics that you pointed out have deep roots which you continue to disqualify by claiming the past has no bearing. These stats are symptons, not the underlying issue. I again encourage you to reach deeper. I am not saying that Blacks have no responsibility, for many, perhaps your supervisor included, may not be conscious or even knowledgeable themselves as to why there is (for some) a sort of self-destruct button. To understand, you'd have to start at the beginning of American society: how the north and south, east and west were constructed, the reconstruction period, jim crow, redlining in the north, police brutality (check the photography of ed burns via newsweek), drugs, education, tv even plays a part in determining childhood self-valuation. This stuff is deep and I've left out soooo much.
We all must accept responsibility for this society and work together to help each other.
Check out these books: Three Negroe classics, Manchild in the Promise land, The invisible man, Black Chicago by Allan Spear. These are not left ideologically and have no bearing on politics per say. They just detail the historical psychology of black life and american society. Only then can you start to understand that its not as simple to clean up as you think.
tiger, tiger tiger: Hello! Thanks for your response.
A few things here:
Poor people signed up for mortgages they couldn't pay back. And blacks and other minorities were disproportionately affected - whites were also victims of this predatory lending.
2) Are you implying that whites are superior to blacks because of philosophers such as Plato, and Greek "advancement in civilization"? From what I understand they were scholars of Egypt.
I think this is precisely the problem. There is an underling cultural belief that somehow blacks are not as intelligent because of this perception that they had not (or could not have) contributed anything of intellectual value to our world culture. This couldn't be any further from the truth. Again, you are not educated in totality, just from the eurocentric school of thought which claims that Europeans are responsible for all forms of enlightenment and civilization.
Regarding your comment: "Colleges have racial quotas which is why unqualified blacks are all over even Ivy league campuses."
Really? Blacks are all over IVY league campuses? When did this happen? Blacks make up on average the lowest percentage of ethnicities in the Top Tier School. (check these scools stats) I went to a top tier university which was predominantly White but we also had a high percentage of Asians. Blacks and Hispanics were a minority. Blacks and Hispanics, most of whom did not come from elite highschools in the best environments, but were just as bright as anyone else. They also were not given any breaks (to my knowledge) by the professors on their grading because of their race.
So where exactly are you getting this information from?
You are obviously well-versed. My observations were first-hand, and I stand by them. What you are missing is that many individuals and groups arrived in the US penniless and "tried their best." I belong to at least two groups that have long been discriminated against, and my husband is a minority. The problems that persist within the black community are today largely self-inflicted. Until community leaders begin to exhort black Americans to take responsibility for their own fates, they will remain mentally enslaved. I was bemused by Michelle Obama's visit to her ancestors. They were freed from slavery 50 years before my grandparents fled their homeland to come here as refugees. My grandmother arrived with the clothes on her back and a pair of small brass candlesticks. She was 14 and worked in a sweatshop. No one has given us extra points, no one gave her welfare or food stamps or healthcare. She would have never thought to ask.
Your observations can not be first hand because you do not share the black american experience and are not read on it. You seem to lack the understanding that this is a multi-layered issue. Not one in which you can point fingers.
You also cannot lump all black people into this one category of the sterotypical "Welfare Queen". All blacks were not raised in single family homes, are not on welfare, didn't allow prevalent discriminatory practices to stymie their ability to achieve and provide for their families. btw- there are many poor white families also on welfare.
In terms of your grandmother, I'm sure she didn't have to worry about lynch mobs (after slavery was abolished), and a whole host of discriminatory practices of her time. Her Whiteness WAS her extra points. That's what you simply do not understand. As hard as it was for her, it was 3x as hard for blacks under the same circumstances, who addiitionally had to live with the stigma and psychological pathos of a painful legacy in the country of their birth. As note that as an immigrant, it wasn't your grandmothers right to come to a new country and expect a hand out. -- she was right to not expect anything.
In terms of blacks taking their fate into their own hands, I couldn't agree more. Unity is an issue because its directly tied to a legacy of lies perpetrated by the society in which we've all been the victim.
I didn't lump all black families in the same category. But the ones that have transcended the issues I listed are much less likely to experience the problems you are discussing. As for my grandmother, yes, she DID have to worry about lynch mobs in the country she left. She had no more means than the freed slaves did, but she sought a new venue for her life. She was not hobbled by a mindset of victimhood, which is indigenous in the reasons you cite concerning "society." I am suggesting that the black Americans who left the 'hood have been far more successful. The one issue I would fault "society" over is that of segration and self-segregation. We are really not a melting pot here, at least not for several generations after arrival and in some immigrant groups, not even then. But at this point, there are neighborhoods, professions, and schools open to all. And Joe, you say that I don't share the black American experience. Neither do you share the experience of millions of first, second, and third-generation Americans who made their way through loads of hardship and self-sacrifice without help, affirmative action, extra points on the government hiring lists, or entitlement programs. And I don't have a hyphen when I explain who I am. I am just American.
Sherie: You don't have a hyphen when you come to explain yourself and neither do blacks. Blacks who reach past ten generations in this country are American more so than any first or second generation "Americans". I never agreed with the classification of African-American. And there are many Blacks who don't appreciate the classification.
As for your Grandmother, you made my point exactly when you said she had to deal with lynch mobs in the country she left. My key point was that she did not have to deal with them here and thus had an easier time in this country than blacks did. Her whiteness gave her more opportunities over the blacks who had already been here.
Your statement: "And Joe, you say that I don't share the black American experience. Neither do you share the experience of millions of first, second, and third-generation Americans who made their way through loads of hardship and self-sacrifice without help, affirmative action, extra points on the government hiring lists, or entitlement programs. "
My response: Those first, second and third generation "Americans" you are talking about have not shared the hard ships of black Americans, making it easier for their growth. The psychology is different on new soil than in the land of their birth and thus it is hard to quantify and compare with the adversities blacks encounter.
You seem to be under the misconception that Blacks are given all these wondrous opportunities. Where are they exactly? I went to a predominantly black inner city high school and the students that went to A list Universities were excellent scholars. They deserved the programs and scholarships they were given. Those who didn't make the grades didn't get in. I work in corporate America and the blacks who have been given opportunities are there because they worked twice as hard as their white counterparts to be there. So you really don't understand how entitlement programs work. They work so that Blacks who have done the work are not kept out of positions and institutions because they are Black. It's not because they are unqualified and black that they get those positions, It's because they are qualified but may be discriminated against due to race.
Oh and please read the Miseducation of the Negro. It will give you the psychological and sociological impact of the how educated blacks were turned away from high paying jobs because of there skin color (less educated whites were given those jobs instead -- this is what institutionalized racism is). This is part reason of what begins the civil rights basis for Affirmative Action.
And yes some of those whites were immigrant workers. Blacks always came last in terms of job availability and were always paid less than even the immigrant/non-american counterparts.
You are not aware then, for example, that when I took the federal employee exam and scored in the 99th percentile, I never was placed in a job because minorities get extra points. You say you've been in Chicago? Have you been in any of the city offices? In the 70s and 80s at least, there was hardly a white face to be seen. Every single employee in our local post office is a minority. There are literally millions of jobs with security and great benefits that were not given to the most qualified, but to the most-qualified minority applicant. I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, and I worked my way through the state university, a great school. The "affirmative action" girls had assistance to pay their housing costs; I had assistance only with my tuition. And yes, I worked for minimum wage, bussing tables and stuffing envelopes, etc. Decades later, I scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT, and I was given a fellowship. But by that time, I had bought a house and was a single mother. I passed up a good offer from Wharton, because I could not move and leave my daughter. I went through cancer and a bad back accident while working to pay my tuition at a local private school. So even as a 3rd-generation American, it hasn't been easy. And the competition has been unfair. Everyone has challenges, Joe. Meeting them with the resources available to you turns out a different kind of person than getting bonus points on skin color. You have to admit, not everyone with a hispanic name or dark skin needs assistance. Yet they qualify. Why not me? It wasn't exactly a downhill ski. Assistance is for the needy, and skin color doesn't make it so. Today, why should a black person who doesn't face my challenges automatically qualify based on bonus points? If you really think that's right, we can't have a meeting of the minds. I did it the old-fashioned way, and I have enough respect for black Americans to think that the best and brightest among them can do it the same way.
Sherrie, I was simply pointing out a book called Black Chicago to describe a chunk of relevant history which explains the formation of one of the first black ghettos. I respect your point of view but I hardly think blacks have been given anything because of bonus points. Any "bonus points" given out were given for a reason. Had brutal discriminatory practices not existed, there would be no need for hand outs. Your ancestors didn't hang on trees and weren't castrated in this country for being black, so forgive me if I don't sympathize. I have elders in my life who have seen this first hand and it wasn't so long ago. And your forgetting, that what made this country rich and thus a place for people and immigrants to come to make a better life for themselves, was the direct result of African slave labor. To which a debt is owed by all.
You have gone through hardships, and I'm not saying anyone is free of hardships, but don't blame black americans. Blacks did not create this society nor the blacklash you have experienced or your understanding of which.
What we need to do is be more forgiving of each other and work to better ourselves individually -- Let's stop pointing fingers.
Also, I'm still trying to discover where these "bonus points" are. I've worked hard and have faced discrimination as a result from both blacks (who fear that I may take their job --because by the way only a few Blacks are allowed anywhere at once) and whites. Please let me know where I can go to get these entitlements you speak of. I somehow missed the memo.
And I also don't agree with people who think that just because Blacks have achieved success, it was due to "entitlement programs". The reality is, I guarantee, that the successful blacks you do see, worked like hell to get there.
Black unemployment is what it is not because blacks are lazy and don't want to work. They are just always the first to be cut and the last to gain employment when a recession hits. This goes back to 1900's. Nothing has changed.
No, Joe, I don't think that successful black people have succeeded because of entitlement programs, either; in fact, that's my point. They did work like hell to get there--but what I think you're missing is that so did the white guy next to him, unless he was a legacy at Princeton or Yale. Most of us had to push twice as hard to get half as far as some other guy, and if you didn't grow up in my milieu, you will have a hard time seeing that. I just think that we now need to be on a level playing field. Isn't equality what black Americans seek? Don't you think when a black man is POTUS, and a woman, by the way, hasn't made it there yet, you don't need any more affirmative action? What's wrong with may the best man--or woman--win? And if black Americans aren't ready for that yet, when will they be?
I would love the best man or woman getting what they deserve. I would also love it if there was no longer racism and discrimination. Again, affirmative action, is there to protect the rights of Blacks who deserve to get ahead but may be prevented from getting ahead because of their ethnicity.
And yes, Woman have the same discrimination issues... But just because a Black man is POTUS doesn't mean that discrimination is over. It's a great start but as you can see the black unemployment rate is more than double that of whites.
In terms of blacks not being ready for equality -- did you really seriously say this? Blacks are equal, and also believe it, but this society isn't ready for it. Just ask the birthers, teapartiers, kkk, and please change the consitution while your at it which states that blacks are 3/5's a human being. Don't think its Blacks instituting this.
The constitution wouldn't allow me to vote or own property. That doesn't mean it isn't possible today. Some day, you will have to sink or swim entirely on your own. What is it--almost 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation? Is that five, six, even seven generations? I accept that most slaves were disadvantaged when they were brought here, but seven generations should be enough time to overcome. I have no idea who my ancestors of seven generations ago were. It has no bearing on me. To return to the article, I think Obama is right. It's time to stop hiding behind racism and show us what you've got. I'll bet if you check the stats, you'll find the reason black unemployment is so high pertains directly to educational level. I had a friend some years ago who bemoaned the fact that there were so few men for her to date. She was over 6' tall and black. But the real problem? She was a talented attorney who also held a degree in a technical field. C'mon, Joe. You're sticking with the theory that most of the world looks out there and sees black, white, Asian, hispanic, middle-eastern....I have been mistaken for most of those. But when I start to speak, people find out who I am. You sound quite remarkable, so I am surprised you stick to the theory of victimhood. Sometimes, you know, we do that to ourselves. It's been nice talking with you. Best of luck.
He is asking people to stop crying and fight. Something he hasn't been able to do himself. Well maybe before he starts asking people to stop crying, he should stop crying himself and be president for a change.
@ EE JAY - Oh, I read the article, and I comprehended it. Did you?
What I have seen is a president that has spent his whole presidency crying "It's not my fault!" & and "You guys are being mean to me!". He says he can't feel sorry for himself and he has to press on. I'll believe it when I see it. So far, I haven't seen anything from him BUT feeling sorry for himself. He won't lead by example. I don't think he knows how. I don't think he has the presence of character that would even allow him to consider doing that.
He wasn't hired to whine. He was hired to perform. If he were CEO of a company, the BOD would have fired him by now and with good reason. I think we should fire him too.
3/4 of the way through his term, he still can't get past Bush. I want a president that lives in the present and plans for the future but remembers the past. He seems to just live in the past making vague noises about the future and ignores the present.
I do not like Obama as President. He has done a disgraceful job thus far. However, he will be gone from office after the next election, so I will not have to deal with him again. I do believe that we black folks need to stop complaining about everything, stop seeing racism behind everyone's actions, get a good education and hence a good job (they are out there), and vote Republican.
You hit the nail on the head about getting a good education. That's what's lacking from many families. Having kids in your teens when unmarried and uneducated pretty much stacks the deck against you for life.
I blame much of the problem on the desolution of the family.
Don't know what country you live you say get a good education go into any school in a black neighborhood in Philadelphia and say get a good education. How?The schools are falling apart there are few computers and over worked teachers. There is not enough of anything books, desks, paper you name it, give these kids a level playing field then watch them soar.
How did the schools get that way Ahames? If the school was in need of repair, the principal would have to put in a request for repair, until the budget ran out. What is wrong with just learning from books? Computers are new ideas, not required. no computers and maybe there would be books. Unless the budget was spent on repairs until it was drained. You buy your own paper and composition tablets. Gimmeeeee Gimmeeeeee, as Obama credit cards America to death. Funny how you claim all the black neighborhoods have decaying schools when they get no less than any other schools. Sounds like dramatic rhetoric to me.
Seems Phillie can't get their local politicians to listen to them. Stop the crying and put on the marching shoes. Get motivated and make change. The news here in NYC is that "hood schools are kicking can and making well rounded geniuses. Maybe you can learn from their experiences. Free knowledge from me to you.
See all the racist and ignorant comments from our stupid fellow Americans whom are mostly white, mad because we have a black president in this country? This attitude is going to be the down fall of this great nation. In stead of loving and taking care of each other, these clowns wants to divide this nation. So be it. The Roman Empire had fallen too.....America is next. You can thank these stupid racists.
Actually we should be thanking the stupid 90% of the black population that voted for him just because he was black. Well you should be celebrating now. True equality. He has proven that a black man can be every bit as lousy a President as any white man.
Why does everything has to do "racism"? That has been the downfall of our people for lo these many years. No one is stopping us (Blacks) from getting a good education and no one is stopping us from getting a good job. STOP WHINING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT RACISM AND BECOME A USEFUL MEMBER OF SOCIETY. I'M JUST SICK OF THE 'WOE IS ME" ATTITUDE OF SOME BLACKS.
@makememad....you're the perfect example of a racist clown. This country is filled with clowns like you holding back the greater good of "All" Americans. The rebellion that took place in Libya to get rid of Ghaddfi needs to happen in the US. We need to get rid of all the racist minded clowns and throw them out....only then will this country progress.
@BlackRepub.....i seriously doubt you're Black. You're a clown. Racism is alive and well in America. Racism hurt people, Racism will destroy this country.
I can assure you that I am black. Simply because I do not subscribe to your defeatist attitude of dependence, allowing others to think for me nor drink at the public trough, that means that I'm not black? What a "racist " thing to say! Not everyone is drinking from the tainted Democrat or Obama koolaid, my friend.
So, I'm not sure what you're saying here, Halo. But it sounds like your point is that if you're black, you can forego education and just get a job based on affirmative action--on race. While I think the "vote Republican" on BlackRepub's posts is a cheap shot (I think you should decide for yourself based on candidate, party platform, and past performance), I don't know why you have an issue with the rest of his post. After 50 years of getting extra points for being a "minority," and after having seen a black president elected, what excuse is there for thinking that anything stands in the way of your getting a good job except your own lack of qualifications? Some of us actually worked for peanuts to get through college and then paid off our loans.
@sherrie.....did i say anything about affirmative action, education, jobs?? You damn clown! You and your fellow clowns minds are clouded with racism. Talking to you is pointless.
Just pointing out the truth. The FACT is that the majority of blacks in this country voted for Obama for no other reason than that he was black. If that makes me a racist clown so be it. I'd rather be that than a deadbeat yard ape any day of the week.
Apparently Halo failed to either read or comprehend what he read in this story. Black leaders in this country time and again displaying Racism. Halo, re-read the story please.
Actually if you refer to the post I put out earlier this liberal carnard was dealt with. The top countries and empires of history (Rome, British Empire, Germany, Japan and in it's day Athens) were NOT racially diverse. In the case of the UK and the Greeks most noteably, the dilution of their gene pool was followed by the eclipse of their civilization.
I was gone for a while Halo, and it seems like I never left; now you have added "clown" to your trio of stupidity. You seem to have a big problem with others (regardless of race) who have not bought a subscription to Obama's tale of woe. Until you give deep thought to where this country is headed under Obama, especially to black folks, you will always play the "victim card." I don't ever quote Obama except for now: "Quit whining".
I don't want in on this thread, I just wanted to ask Halo how he knows his alleged facts. I can't see races of people over the internet. And how does Halo know these people are angry because Obama is part black? Obama firehosed away trillions into the debt column, promised change and America is counting its nickels. Point is, maybe one post in a hundred makes a racist remark. So why are you slamming whites? Feel free to speak in DETAILS!
Mirriam Webster definition of BIGOT: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Urban Dictionary definition of BIGOT ( google it, I did): One who is narrrowly or intolerantly devoted to his or her opinions and prejudices. This word is a general term that applies to everyone (racists, anti-Semites, misogynists, homophobes and xenophobes). Just as whites can be bigots, so can blacks, browns and yellows.
I added NOTHING, I removed NOTHING. Halo should be proud of what he says.
You will vote for the re-election of Obama?? Are you nuts? Time will fail me to list the damage that he has done to this country in just 2 years! Are you that blinded by loyalty to the Democrats or are you that wedded to his political philosophy? Would you stand in front of a blind man with a loaded weapon pointed in your direction?
Repub - puh-lease, your little joke is getting old. Maybe they just worry that an a$$ that panders to the Tea Taliban will really sink this ship, and know that at least the current prez CARES about this country - effectively or not, remains to be seen.
Under Bush my 401 k way growing....under Bush I was recieving raises and had plenty of job oportunities, under Bush my medical health insurance was 1/2 the cost as it is today plus I did not have to prove to my company that I had insurance through my husband or be threatened to have to buy a product I do not want nor need. Also under Bush Terrorists did not get coddled Under Bush America felt like, well, America not the soviet Union. Under Bush the dollar had alot more value and our enemies actually feared us. Under Bush the rich were the folks who created jobs, not the governme and the rich were not used as a bouncing ball to rile up class warfare.
The O-Bummer has destroyed all that....wow that's some change and you want more of that???All I can say than is you must be a communist cause only a communist would want more of this!!!!!
Very confusing - was Pres. Obama talking about the same "jobs bill" that the Democrats have failed to file in the House, and that the Democrats have failed to bring to the floor of the Senate. Just need clarification on that. It appears that the people who have on their bedroom slippers out of choice are the Democratic leadership (from the President on down). Working people - without jobs to go to, or even apply for - have no reason to take off their slippers. What an insulting, self-serving, bloviating, speech.
Obama...what a disappointment you are. You should have hit the ground running, but you tried to negotiate with extremists instead- seeking a middle path in what was always a war of extinction between agendas of the rich and those of the rest of us.
NOW, you want support? NOW, when more than half the people in this country are ready to rebel or starve? A little late on the rabble rousing, pal- you'll get my vote, but only because the insane clown posse on the right lacks even one valid contender.
Get back the Congressmen, and come 2012, it's back to show time. Some items that people want, are being patiently waited for - because if Obama is not re-elected, those items will not come to pass. (Like the Dream Act, that's something I'd like to see happen - no chance under the GOP.)
Are you kidding me!!!!!!...you are still going to vote for this communist? and your excuse is what......Hello there are plenty of good folks on the right..Have you looked at Hermain Cain? Have you taken a good look at Rick Perry or even Romney or ar you listening to the brainwashing news of CNN ABC and NBC. That is what is wrong with our Country folks are too lazy to do their own research and they listen to the talking heads. So you are going to vote for a guy who is hell bent on destroying our County.....do us all a favor than and stay home on election day...or go feed the homeless..anything but please do not vote for this guy!
It is untrue that the people are lazy and thoughtless, that they do not look for themselves. No human can be so self-disinterested. They have looked, listened, thought, and felt. Obama demeans people not because he is insensitive, but because he is deluded. He believes in himself.
This is astonishing. He has done nothing. Achieved nothing. Points to nowhere and gives air to meaningless words. He postures, he pontificates, and he buys his own story.
This emptiness of character is not invisible.
Unfortunately, Cain, Perry, etc., are all equally buffoonish. And Romney is a twit.
Here we go, with a bunch of white people using the word "blacks". It seems innocent enough, but this word "blacks" is only used in articles chastising the African American community,. I love the quotes of President Obama to, with "slang quotations". Kudos, MSNBC, Kudos.
I'm a black man and am proud to be referred to as "black". If a black man is not black, then exactly what color is he? You sound like an Obama apologist and closet racist
One of the things that absolutely "astonishes me" is the "Black & African-American Mask" that Obama and many of his supporters insist on "propping up?"
Since Obama is a whole 06.25% Black (and using the "one drop rule") OK, fine... yes, Obama "can be" considered Black, even though it is a l-o-n-g s-t-r-e-t-c-h, that's only one thing.
But, from what I have always understood, the term "African-American" is a term RESERVED for those Black Americans whose ancestors were descendants of SLAVES brought to American shores; people who had lost almost all traces of their origins, regions or countries, with the exception of the fact that they all knew they were from "Africa?" I understood the term "African-American" gave those Black Americans a greater sense of identity, pride and unity?
Based on that perception, it does seem that it would be almost "insulting" to TRUE African-Americans to refer to Obama as "African-American" since he knows exactly what country his father was born in... AND neither Obama nor his father are descendant of the American slave trade?
To me, I see a lot of fairly ignorant bigots on both sides of the aisle, and among both White and Black professionals, politicians and people. I can excuse the general ignorance (to a degree) among the general public, but I cannot excuse the ignorance among the "supposedly better educated" politicians and journalists.
I also find equally weird that many seem to use the terms "interchangeably" too? I never thought that they were?
In fact, on all the references to Obama, I cannot remember anyone EVER mentioning that Obama himself clearly stated that his father's racial classification in Kenya was 100% Semitic-Arab. It was only through in depth genealogical research that they learned it was Obama's "great-great grandmother who was actually 100% Black, making Obama 06.25% Black?
Aside from that... no single group in America held out greater HOPE for Obama than the Black community. Many looked to him almost as an answer to their decades and generations of prayers.
the so called "main stream media" completely ignores the plight of today's inner-city ghettos that suffer from staggering poverty, violence, drugs, gangs, homicides and outrageous unemployment. When people hear of Maxine Waters and John Conyers freaking out over Obama, let's face it, that is a major clue to how little Obama has done for the Black community.
In 2010, there were over 30 Black Republicans running just for Congress and strangely enough, most of them are big Tea party members. That is NEVER reported in the press.
I have been predicting for years that, sooner or later, the Black community will understand that the Democratic party has been B.S.ing them for generations; telling them, "Hey Black people, vote for us Democrats because we've got your back!"
Finally, it seems that a growing number of Black people realize they've been scammed, used and kept getting bused back to the ghetto... and the Democratic party has been driving that bus since the mid 1960's?
Obama himself? He strikes me as "a slick, WHITE Chicago politician who MASQUERADES as a Black man... as long as it gets him the votes he needs. Anyone who takes the time to study this guy should be able to see right through him. Do any Black people notice how loyal Obama always is to his "WHITE relatives" yet seems to TOTALLY IGNORE his father's side of the family? How can any man in his position seem to so casually ignore the plight of his paternal grandmother, sole surviving paternal half-brother and aunt? It seems so painfully obvious, yet is rarely, rarely EVER mentioned in the press? If and when it ever is, those stories evaporate within seconds of hitting the news?
I hope I am not "out of line", but this is just my perception.
why oh why can not the black Americans call themselves Americans
if there is a black person who came here from Haiti....how am I to differeniate? do I call them an AA....if there is a black british folk that became an American citizen and I supose to call him an AA???? how the hell do you tell the difference? It is becoming impossible? why can't we all just get along and be "Americans"...oh is it because of the attitude of these folks like Michele Obama who were NOT proud of their country even though they rose up the corperate ladders and became a lawyer....but nooo she wasa NOT proud of her country until...her 1/2 black 1/2 muslum husband was elected and now she can mooch off the tax payers for all her extravagant trips. She is a bigot a raciest and a hypocrit along with him and both of them need to go...
You AA want a real AA in the white house.... support Hermain Cain...and by the way.....He is a real American...a real American.
Note: Obama is NOT "half" Black. "According to Obama".
Obama is 06.25% Black... or 1/16th. To qualify for "federal minority benefits" a person must prove that they are "genetically no less than One Eighth" of the race they are claiming benefits for, such as Black or Native American.
Obama NEVER could have LEGALLY qualified to receive federal minority benefits as either "Black or African-American", aside from the fact that he is NOT a descendant of any American slaves. I have a suspicion that may be just one of the reasons that Obama's college transcripts are "sealed". What if he "claimed to be half Black" to get federal benefits, when his own father, (as BLACK as he appeared to be) was considered Semitic Arab by the government of Kenya????
Obama is 43.75% Semitic Arab or 7 times or "700% more Semitic Arab" than he is Black.
Obama is 50.00% White
These are FACTS according to Obama himself. In spite of that, millions of Americans keep repeating "Obama is half Black"... but, every single one of them are very, very WRONG.
Anyone have questions? Answers require the strenuous effort of reading.
Since Obama is a whole 06.25% Black (and using the "one drop rule") OK, fine... yes, Obama "can be" considered Black, even though it is a l-o-n-g s-t-r-e-t-c-h, that's only one thing.
WHY such a "strong emphasis on being Black" while completely ignoring his far more dominant, "43.75% Semitic Arab racial heritage?"
Then, completely ignoring his 43.75% Semitic Arab racial heritage is bigoted. And virtually every single person, white or black, politicians and journalists do that.
People constantly "interchange the terms Black and African-American" and, NO, the terms are not interchangeable. Black is one thing, but "African-American?"
black and african american are certainly interchangeable because it references the lineage to africa (no matter how slight) which early america found necessary to do.
there are only three races negroid (black) caucasoid (sp?) white and mongaloid (yellow). semitic arab is not a race. have you seen pictures of the president's father? he definitely fits into the negroid catergory.
it's amusing how some whites resent the fact that accomplished blacks of mixed hertiage embrace their blackness. most blacks in america are of mixed heritage. however, if president obama was a mugger his race would not for a minute be in question.
He says his package will benefit 20 million African-American workers? 2010 census shows 39 million African-Americans in the country of any age - 9 mos. old to 90 years old. He just makes up crazy numbers and throws them around as facts.
only African American...so if you are white and from Africa you will benifit too...how about if your from Jamica and your black...will you not benifit???how about if your from Haiti and your black will you not benifit...how about if you immigrated from Europe and you are Black ...will you not benifit?????
I thought we had a president that was for all people. Why do black people still segregate themselves. If all whites met together like this, the screams from everybody across this nation would be deafening.
Who are the true racists in this country that continue to keep this issue alive.....
Obama to blacks: I don't give a sh*t about your problems. Just shut up and show up at the polls. Pull the damn Democrat lever and go the hell back home. Don't make me look bad whining about the lack of jobs. Aren't all the handouts I give you enough for you ingrates?!
LOL....
Obama only represents the views of those who despise the constitution, despise liberty, and worship enslavement to a socialist/totalitarian state.
African Americans are just like any other group of people on this planet. They want segregation when it's to their advantage. And they want to be treated equally when it's to their advantage. Obama is an Oreo.
Are you saying that obama/democrats take the black vote for granted?????
No way.....way....
But what is so sadly pathetic is that obama/democrats can take theblack vote for granted and not have to even worry about trying to earn the black community's vote.....
replytoj001
If his slang, pandering manner doesn't insult the majority of African Americans, his empty promises should.
My guess is that unless Herman Cain gets the Republican nomination or runs as an independent, this segment of his voters will likely stay home in 2012, as there will be no one left to vote for.
It's sad really that we have come to this divisive, race-based place, when real progress has been made.
The reality of today though is that most of us vote for who we think is going to do the best job, and fewer and fewer people believe that person is Obama.
@m-612...whites do in fact get together like this quite frequently. It's called the GOP.

Our Current President is a RACIST, He didnt tell Whites to join in. IMPEACH THIS RACIST!!!!!
Amen Brother, Can you imagine the media outcry if a white or hispanic or an asian made comments like this.
President Obama has completely ignored the Black community needs until now... Until he needs them to win his election. After I am sure he will go back to ignoring them.
M-
As far as I'm concerned, calling minorities who organize to advocate for their rights the "true racists" is about as racist as it gets.
If racism didn't exist, if jobs inequality didn't exist, if equalities of justice and opportunity didn't exist then maybe....maybe you would have a point.
But, they do, so you don't.
@Larry Robinson
LOL! You remind me of Geprge Jefferson, except he calls people that are biracial Zebras. :D
"I do not want a Zebra for a daughter in law!" :D
Fox News Viewers. What? YOU ASKED! If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.

My guess is you would have to have been born black to understand what it is really like to be black in America.
Just a guess.
Denial resolves nothing.
Grayso,
Do not forget the Tea Party, the daughters of the American Revolution, and the private country clubs - where million dollar business deals are made...
A statement such as the one above could only come from an amoral lying troll or an ignorant Kool-Aid junkie.
Scotty...just as the Dumbocrats jumpm at every Repubs story...get a life and drink more Kool-ade as it seems to keep you euphoric
Hey I see you get around. I am voting for the Derek Douchebag party. You have my support. Have a double douche day Derek!!
Sane Central
My guess is that its better to be black in America than it is to be black anywhere else.
Just guessing. Quit always acting like the victim.
25Walker please explain AFRICA!
Comment # 1 restored for clarity.
Black people ain't stupid Obama.
Pack your crap, and get ready to move soon.
I hope that you vote Republican, and help get rid of him.
So a Black Republican and White racist walk into a bar!
And agree to vote for a Mormon. Yeah, something like that.
Yeah, so the first name to come up is Bachmann. I've heard that joke.
Viewer_Ready,
You are right...Black people are not stupid.
It is that simple.
brian 422duh
& sounds like you certainly will not vote for him simply because he is black, that makes you so much better, you genuis!
Does he pull these numbers out of his ass? Why would anyone believe any thing that he says.
Viewer_Ready: you are a white republican.
There is a comment that black people are not stupid, and I agree. I'm white and there were a lot of stupid whites that voted for that moron as well believing his lies. I encourage all, whites and blacks alike to fight--TO GET THAT BLATANT IDIOT OUT OF OUR MISERY.
In other words Obama is really telling them to shut up and give me your vote.
The sad thing is they will probably obey his order.
Is this A** trying to start a race war to get elected? "y'all" know it's true. Save the country and get rid of this jerk.
Ron Paul/Herman Cain
Lisafrequency, why not Herman Cain/Ron Paul? ;-)
"Obama told blacks on Saturday to quit crying and complaining and "put on your marching shoes" to follow him into battle for jobs and opportunity."
PS - That only LOOKS like a cliff ahead - just keep focused on ME and follow along.
Isn't this speech just a rewrite of the "Get out of the back seat and start pushing" theme he used on Republicans?
Kallie "The BEST thing you can do is work hard, put in long hours and improve your education right now and hang on. Show the place of business that you work that you are worth keeping. You have to come in early and work late. THEN you have to invest the little money you do make. Don't buy the expensive car, don't worry about appearances. INVEST!"
Very sound advice. What is the key to success? Two very simple things;
Is it true that Obama has hired Jimmy Carter as a campaign adviser?
Brian:
Jo Anne:
They should "fight" but not for that fraud (Obama).
Obama has stiffed them at every turn.
Let me add - it's SO noticeable to the Black community because not one minority would walk up to the Pres. and say "wassup dawg?" It would be more along the lines of, "very nice to meet you Mr. President." So, his Ebonic speeches are NOT working for the minority communities.
McCain would have been just as bad. The only hope for this country is Ron Paul or the LIBERTARIANS.
Mainstream Democrats and Republicans have nothing to offer but poverty, failure and never ending war.
Thank you Gents for letting me know about Cain. We are stationed in Germany and don't have TV hookup yet so I haven't been able to watch much and my husband and I haven't had time lately to sit down on the internet together. He told me he knew about Cain in Florida. I am very encouraged. :)
GO CAIN!!!
How many members of the Black community are included in the 'Dream Act', I'd be watching this pretty close since it's going to cost more jobs for the people that he's talking down to.
OMG, MLK was a Republican?
yes he was...probably because the dems are the father of the KKK....
I am astounded that someone who is so incompetent at such an important job, can carry himself with such arrogant self-righteousness.
Worst President Ever 8(
What has he done for any community be it any color of the spectrum.
N O T H I N G
When you know class warfare isn't going to save you, bedazzle them with race warfare and hope they fall in line and "march" to your tune.
What leadership. (sarcasm)
unbelievable! the white people are screaming insane accusation of president obama being racist. claims are he's given out a multitude of handouts to blacks even though they've nothing different from any other disadvantaged group.
the blacks are up in arms blaming the president for not focusing solely on black issues. yeah, that'll work when he can't even get the gop to go along with policies that benefit everyone. these people are on this post yelling racism now; if he uttered the words 'black agenda' the whole sight would collapse.
Lisafrequency, do you know what the ;-) symbol means? It means simmer down, lower the fanaticism, and take a freakin' joke. Sheesh!
Yes, and to those blacks reading this - Obama will lead you right to where he's led the rest of us - TO HELL.
Right because under the Bush Administration we were living in paradise.
My Ass.
Jasmine...At this point it is not relevant at all what Bush is or was. If Obama cannot handle the job. He needs to go.
Jasmine-1862666 "Right because under the Bush Administration we were living in paradise."
In relative terms, that is correct.
Jasemine that name is as bad as Earl
SLCH33, you still blaming Bush? It's getting old, very old. Obama's policies are killing the American economy.
DLCH33
To your comment: "Me personally I want someone who will work with Love for all..."
Love for all is definitely not what I hear ever coming from this President.
The person I hope becomes next President is Herman Cain. Since I heard him speak from the first time, he spoke from the heart and as a man with a plan.
It's going to take a big plan to pull this country up.
How much more of this can we take people?
I think if i was stumpin for reelection in front of what i deem to be my base, i could find better words than "quit your cryin and complainin"
never underestimate that the O will find some group of americans to insult and put down..it is how he rolls, too bad he couldn't focus on the real enemy instead of his made up ones..
Obama was afraid someone would steal the hub caps off the bus.
Why were you in the crowd?
We were told in the beginning that Obama was going to be our first "post-racial" president, but instead he is a MOST racial president.
We were told in the beginning that Obama would be our first "post-partisan" president; but instead we get the MOST partisan president.
You remember all that talk from Obama who he would unite Red & Blue states? But instead he works to DIVIDE the states.
Obama has lost.
Willing...
Is it possible that we simply mis-heard Mr. Obama and he actually did use the word "most" when he gave those speeches ???
Do you really have to ask, .. .pathetic the prez has to beg for votes, what a joke and he still thinks he's winning.. .even a crack head like charlie knows when to call it quites.. .
I think crack head charlie was given a pop can and told to kick it down the road
love these crackhead analogies when discussing the policies and campaigning efforts of our black president! doesn't sound the least bit racist! yeah, right!!
Isn't he preaching to the choir? Exactly who does he think black folks would vote for? This guy is clueless.
How does the old saying go, takes a crackhead to know one?
@ john 2032532 #4.3...
maybe he's smart enough to know there's a chance they might not vote at all! now who's clueless?
"maybe he's smart enough to know there's a chance they might not vote at all!"
You think talking to people as if they are too stupid to make their own evaluation of him implies that he "knows they might not vote at all"?
Clearly it is you who is clueless, as this speech just ensured that many who were willing to be obedient to him no longer will be.
this seems to imply that he has the black voters in his pocket. since you made no claim that the speech turned them against him; what was this comment suppose to mean?
Over 90% of Blacks voted for Obama based on his skin-color.
A skin-color based vote, no matter if it is "for" or "against" is still a racist vote.
What did they expect for a skin-color based vote? Hmm? They got the skin-color, but that's all there is. No substance.
willing sniper #4.8...
what proof do you have to make such a baseless claim. has it ocurred to you that african americans were as disgusted by the bush policies as everyone else; and would have voted for a character from 'avatar'.
i'm not claiming that no such black voters exists, but would you make the same high percentage claim of those criticizing president obama doing so because he's black? the statement itself sounds hyperbolic and even racist.
since in one of your prior comments, you appeared to nearly wet yourself over the prospects of herman cain becoming an "authentic black president" it seems as though you're wrongfully projecting your voting habits onto others.
Hopefully the day isn't far off that black America tires of this crap and comes to the realization that education is the key to long term success for their children and grandchildren, and that single motherhood is almost a guarantee of continued hardship.
They do that"s why they are always complaining about the schools in poorer communities not being on par with more aflluent communities.
Things will get harder before they get better.
with so many black men in jail serving long sentences for marijuana possession no wonder so many black women are single mothers.
The best that we as a nation can do for the long-term well being of the African American population is to afford them the best educational opportunities that we can, but, Bman42, we are far from doing it.
They just don't take advantage of it
I'm a honky. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Did you notice the last sentence?
http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1586/changing-demographic-characteristics-american-mothers
Or go straight to the census...which shows that the numbers are pretty equal for all races - the percentages will be different but that is just making stats work for you....Black and Hispanic women have more babies but White women (as a total) have as many babies without fathers
http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/cats/births_deaths_marriages_divorces.html
so-whodat
@ black kettle # 5.18...
how is it the it the fault of the teachers if there are not enough books for the children to take home? there may be teachers that are on edge because they are upset about the poor conditions they're forced to work under. admittedly, these schools do not draw the cream of the crop teachers, however, it's inconceivable that it's only the teachers to blame for the terrible learning conditions.
many of the children (not all, of course) come from troubled households where parents show little or no interest in their children's education. some of the kids are disciplinary problems and the teachers sometimes get no support from the parents. there are teachers who pay out of their own pockets to have just minimal school supplies.
i have a relative who has a masters degree in teaching so i know the above to be true. placing blame on teachers is just a right wing way of disrupting the present system and moving it toward privatization. privatization is the gop's answer to everything because, as we are all aware, no one is inept or corrupt in the private sector.
so tell us why parents/students should have their choices limited..just because the best students are taken out of the mix...so some of the best students should be made to attend a lesser quality school just because ?---that makes no sense and a parent whose choice is limited like that has every right to be livid..
charter schools are also not beholden to the destructive teachers unions that protect bad teachers and lay off the good ones based simply on seniority..they can easily get rid of teachers that are sub par....
which students should be forced to attend the public school with a bad teacher--your child, my child, every ones child ?--how do we tell that parent and child, so sorry but that 2d grade you were in taught you nothing, it was a wasted yr....
you may want to look at how new orleans is rebuilding school system with charter schools after katrina because the public system was no more..most parents say it is far better than what they had before and it's not just for the rich kids either..
@ jasmine # 5.5...
all of these insane ranting against president obama not cleaning up this economic mess in less than two years shows just how out of touch these people are.
they want to ignore the fact that he has had to fight practically to the death for everything passed or attempted to pass which has impeded progress.
what they don't realize is this country has been on a downhill slide for many years (pre obama and even bush) due to a monster called globalization which is mostly at fault for this economic disaster. when the gop talks about american businesses needing to be able to compete in the global market, what they really mean is "we need to bust unions in order guarantee low wages for all americans, lower taxes for corporations to fatten their bankrolls even more, and , of course, remove regulations so businesses can pollute air, land and sea without consquences".
i'm with you. i just can't wait to see these obama haters get what's coming to them when these lying lipped republicans get back in power.
Charter schools draw resources away from the regular schools, further impacting the students that need extra help.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/features/education/os-charter-schools-fail-071711-20110716,0,4470007.story
Most times, I think I'm a dem. Yet I hug guns.
Sometimes, I think.
then there are times I'm worried.
This is hilarious! Obama "cranking" up grassroots. I suppose there isn't much difference between crank and crack. Either way, the author apparently nailed it head on.
How does the old saying go, takes a crack/meth head to know one!
amusing how misguided ones on this post accuse the president of being racist; but the accusation of racism is never applied to those that post trash as in #7.
why is it that the president can address the hispanic community about helping them with their jobless plight; but if he does the same for african americans whose jobless numbers are even higher, he's pegged as playing the race card?
another question is, if african americans voted for the president solely because he was black; why are americans not moving toward herman cain in droves? forget about his agenda, he's still a black man. right?
When obama acts this way how can he NOT be supporting racism?!!
Because he is not being called out by the mainstream media, Sunday talk shows, nor the white house press pool......that is why
replytoj001
When Obama acts what way? When he goes to an audience, among a group who plainly have huge economic problems, and tells them to get their own act together and stop complaining?
What is your problem with this message?
"When obama acts this way how can he NOT be supporting racism?!!"
Just because he addresses a black audience and their issues is not supporting racism.
Are blacks not Americans too?!?! Damn right they are! And they deserve everybit of his ear as any other citizen of this nation.
Hypocrite!
It's not rocket science.
Your right, It's not rocket science, IT'S MATH!
At #9 -- December 2010 -- Economy growing at 3% adding 250,000 jobs.
Now, going on ten months after Republicans take control of the House of Representatives -- Economy STALLED adding ZERO jobs.
I'm sorry son, it's pretty clear to a LOT of us where the problem is.
thank you for pointing this out.
In his campaign for the House in 2010, Boehner was screaming "Mr. President, where are the jobs?" Shouldn't that mean that jobs was his highest priority? Turns out, it is not a priority. Cutting taxes for the sake of cutting taxes is.
My ears were burning, now I know why... no, it's not rocket science.
The track record is a bit spotty.
Cause he is black.....why?
The god king is not being held to account for his record within the black community and until he is called out by the black community and they hold him publicly accountable and until the black community begins to demand answers, the god king will still walk on water and take the black vote for granted....
replytoj001
He's saying that they should stop complaining and pull themselves up and get moving on their own and not wait for 'government' to do it for them. This is exactly the same message he gave them in 2008 campaign.
Is there some problem with this message?
No there isn't, but the rest of these people responding only want to bash the black man in the office only respected when a white man is in it!
Hypocrisy and hatred. Nothing good comes from either and people lose their minds and begin to war.
Stop, this is dividing america and making us weak.
To be fair, the Macon Georgia phone book is comedy funnier than the Roast of Charlie Sheen.
I thought Obama was Irish. Now I'm confused.
Mike - the quote is "and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” quoting Jesus Christ in John 8:32
LOL the American people are no way near ready for the truth. other wise every one left and right would be voting for Ron Paul.
Lisafrequency, do you know what the ;-) symbol means? It means simmer down, lower the fanaticism, and take a freakin' joke. Sheesh!
Cain's record in turning around companies and using common sense.
well stated JRS
It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Any Questions?
So instead of learning something for yourself, you blindly follow someone else's belief?
It is the truth.
you are 100% correct.
In the Marines we were all GREEN. I liked that outlook on race and live by it still today. We're all in this together.
observation: most of the US is color blind we are being told we are not.
@JRS,
Extremely well said!
@RumbleBee,
I was Army Special Forces and definitely wouldn't be sittting here today had anyone on the team thought they were anything else exept GREEN---and they would have been double-bummed because I was the RTO and if I got greased they would have had to distribute a lot of extra gear to everyone else.
Baron Brian
i like Cain and Paul what do you think of Herman Cain? he is starting to grow on me.
Bonez,
When Herman Cain veered away from "culture war nonsense" and started talking about creating jobs and getting the country's economic house in order, he grew on me too...by leaps and bounds.
Traitor to ones race?????
I think not.....well stated and honest

"We black folks" ?
Cracker, who do you think you are fooling? And by the way, who pays you for this crap? Are you paid by the letter, the post or by the hour?
BlackRepub joined Newsvine, just for this article. He MUST be black...(sarc)
There are black republicans.. proud to say I don't know any!
Paid "right-wing trolls?" Sure, in some cases that may be true but don't think for a second that the "left-wing" doesn't use the same tactics.
I'm right wing how do i get paid to troll...... lol
i come here to listen and debate issues nothing more nothing less. Sometimes you even learn somthing.
Makes you want to hurt him, bad?
"Peole like you, or you people"? Who's the racist, again?
Old Pharmacist, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Didn't we hear this same speech back in 2008?
how much more "faith in the future" when we live now is required.... now was the future 3 years ago....
replytoj001
and the blacks voted for obama cause he was gonna pay their mortagage and gas bill if they "helped him" in 2008---now it's quit complaining...LOL.. guess he didn't come thru for them either...come to think of it, he hasn't done a hell of alot for anyone..
Ever hear the term "Obama money?"
By what leap of illogic are all these diehard Democrats who've been voting for white candidates suddenly racists...?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI
guess the Lochness does exist.........
replytoj001
funny isn't it--hey, I just spotted bigfoot...but i'd rather have gas in my car and my mortgage paid for...and to think all I'd have to do is "help him"..LOL
OK, one of you has Bigfoot and the other the Loch Ness---but where's the aliens, kids? Gots ta have the little green men...LOL
@katlin,
Stay away from Bigfoot, btw! I hear he smells terrible, and what if he's some kind of carnivore? You could find youself being doused in hot sauce and rolled up in a large piece of ppita breaad or something.
This would not end well for you:o(
Obama had our help and he wasted it. He occasionally sounds like a Democrat, he almost always acts like a Republican.
@GbillG,
Please note that many of those so-called black "leaders" don't actualy have much credibility with the average brother in the 'hood----because many of them have been around for decades and the average brother in the 'hood has not received anything from these "leaders'" exertions except a lot of rhetoric.
ROFL, Cassandra....ever hear of eugenics. You heroine stood for them and even met with Hitler to discuss it. Sheeesh!!!
AngelP...You are spreading disinformation as espoused by the far right. She never met with Hitler. It is the BIG LIE, that you clowns keep repeating. She was a hero then and today for down-trodden women.
Hanoi Jane met with Ho Chi Mihn. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Why don't you check for yourself?
Or would you have to admit to the truth instead of the propaganda which you prefer to believe?
So do you agree with Obama or not??
Will you vote for him and "give him more time" and be "patient", etc.?
Or will you hold him accountable for his record and his economy, and his policies?
Do you feel Obama/democrats take the black vote for granted?
replytoj001
bull @!$%#! and I'm Hispanic.
Dear Ex,
I am familiar with American history.
They are made to appear equal.
ex morning joe viewer:
Joe,
You are obviously well-versed.
Sherrie:
Joe,
You are not aware then, for example, that when I took the federal employee exam and scored in the 99th percentile, I never was placed in a job because minorities get extra points.
Joe,
The constitution wouldn't allow me to vote or own property.
To JRS: common sense, what a concept. Politicians lost that eons ago. They care only for themselves and their bottom line.
He is asking people to stop crying and fight. Something he hasn't been able to do himself. Well maybe before he starts asking people to stop crying, he should stop crying himself and be president for a change.
Gneisenau, read the article again. Next time, try to comphrend.
Hear ye. hear ye.
Agreed, totally.
"Racism" and "racist" seem to be favorite words of yours. Would you apply those same words to yourself? Just asking.
You're not Black at all, just pretending to be Black. Your silly comments gives you away easily. I'm not your friend, Clown!
Mirriam Webster definition of BIGOT: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Could the people criticizing BlackRepub not do a better job of exactly proving his point about stopping whining?
"Oh, you're against doing nothing and holding out your hand for a handout? clearly you are not black"
Apparently to them you must be pro-whining to be black, yet they can't see the problem.
I will still vote for the reelection of Pres. Obama. Everyone complains of
his conciliatory actions this summer. Did we all forget that someone had
to compromise - Social Security and Medicare benefits were in jeopardy.
I forgot everything was perfect when he came into office -
just like Pres. Bush - he had a surplus and like Clinton we did not have two wars
Actually Bush inheritted a recession from Clinton. You can look it up if you don't believe me.
Obama 2012
SCC,
Under Bush my 401 k way growing....under Bush I was recieving raises and had plenty of job oportunities, under Bush my medical health insurance was 1/2 the cost as it is today plus I did not have to prove to my company that I had insurance through my husband or be threatened to have to buy a product I do not want nor need.
The country in in jeopardy.
Obama needs to leave and go back to the the hallowed halls of Harvard where reality does not exist.
FE02,
Are you kidding me!!!!!!...you are still going to vote for this communist? and your excuse is what......Hello there are plenty of good folks on the right..Have you looked at Hermain Cain? Have you taken a good look at Rick Perry or even Romney or ar you listening to the brainwashing news of CNN ABC and NBC. That is what is wrong with our Country folks are too lazy to do their own research and they listen to the talking heads. So you are going to vote for a guy who is hell bent on destroying our County.....do us all a favor than and stay home on election day...or go feed the homeless..anything but please do not vote for this guy!
Cassandra - "Like the Dream Act, that's something I'd like to see happen - no chance under the GOP."
Yes, what a great "win" that will be for the black community... and for all American taxpayers.
I'm sorry but if you approve of the Dream Act and would like to see that happen, then you are a f*cking idiot
Umm.. What do you call a black African American that didn't come from Africa but came from Europe?
Umm.... What do you call a white American that came from Africa?
Umm...... What do you call a black African American that moves to Africa?
We're all Americans.
I'm a black man and am proud to be referred to as "black". If a black man is not black, then exactly what color is he? You sound like an Obama apologist and closet racist
BlackRepub: Great post :-)
I have to admit, your moniker caught my eye.
BTW... I'm an Independent.
peace :-)
Irish Americans call themselves Ameicans
German Americans call themselves Americans
Mexican Americans call themselves Americans
Indian Americans even call themselves Americans
why oh why can not the black Americans call themselves Americans
if there is a black person who came here from Haiti....how am I to differeniate? do I call them an AA....if there is a black british folk that became an American citizen and I supose to call him an AA???? how the hell do you tell the difference?
Homer plessy case stated that if you have black ancestors that you are black.
As I stated in a previous post, at 25.3 above:
WHY such a "strong emphasis on being Black" while completely ignoring his far more dominant, "43.75% Semitic Arab racial heritage?"
Then, completely ignoring his 43.75% Semitic Arab racial heritage is bigoted. And virtually every single person, white or black, politicians and journalists do that.
People constantly "interchange the terms Black and African-American" and, NO, the terms are not interchangeable. Black is one thing, but "African-American?"
That's an entirely different discussion.
speedy #25.7...
black and african american are certainly interchangeable because it references the lineage to africa (no matter how slight) which early america found necessary to do.
there are only three races negroid (black) caucasoid (sp?) white and mongaloid (yellow). semitic arab is not a race. have you seen pictures of the president's father? he definitely fits into the negroid catergory.
it's amusing how some whites resent the fact that accomplished blacks of mixed hertiage embrace their blackness. most blacks in america are of mixed heritage. however, if president obama was a mugger his race would not for a minute be in question.
He says his package will benefit 20 million African-American workers? 2010 census shows 39 million African-Americans in the country of any age - 9 mos. old to 90 years old. He just makes up crazy numbers and throws them around as facts.
That's a big package!
only African American...so if you are white and from Africa you will benifit too...how about if your from Jamica and your black...will you not benifit???how about if your from Haiti and your black will you not benifit...how about if you immigrated from Europe and you are Black ...will you not benifit?????
