Well, Joe never was in negotiations to buy the business, turns out his boss asked him if he would be interested in taking it over when his boss retired, and Joe said he might be. However, I find that hard to believe, for Joe couldn't even pay his back taxes (he had a lien against him by the state of Ohio), let alone buy a going business. What you say regarding what was said and by whom is relevant only to someone running for public office. To subject a private person to the measures you list is stalking. Rather creepy.

People who put themselves in the spotlight will always have flaws exposed. It's part of the process. Some people, on both sides, say some unfortunate things but in the long run even how one responds to those unfortunate things show the character of the person being asked.
