I see Obama gave the first waivers to the republican red states, is this a renewed effort to go back to the failed policy of partisan politics. Obama already is going to have a fight on his hands with the 100 or so blue dog democrats in congress that are voting with republicans. Does the word democrat have the same meaning as coward.
Gary - Your political bias is obvious. But aside from that how many other states actually sought a waiver? I know 28 other states intend to do so but haven't yet. And if you can apply coward to the word democrat then is it OK for them to apply mean spirited bigot to the word republican? Probably not.
The law allowed states to set their own standards and fail to meet them. The idea of 100% pass rate or the school fails was stupid. Dept of Education was comparing different states taking different tests, comparing apples to oranges. If Congress want to see how the states compare then a national test in reading and math at the 5, 7, 9 and 11 grade levels.
Almost EVERY one of these states having "problems" with No Child Left Behind just happen to be chock full of ILLEGAL aliens. What a "coincidence", huh??.........
Letting each State decide what is adequate progress is about as sensible as asking each classroom to decide amongst themselves what should be a passing grade. Another step in the dumbing down of our country. We MUST make the lowest common denominator happy!
Like, I know what I be talkin' 'bout. Just axe me!!
